Chapter 1
John sat in his rocker by the window of the bedroom. He
had another of those sleepless nights. The pain in
his spine and legs had made it impossible to sleep. Not
wanting to disturb Martha, He had gotten up hour's earlier
and taking a blanket to wrap himself in he spent the night
sitting in the chair. At least the pain seemed to be less
while he sat.
Martha had heard him get up but feigning sleep she inwardly
felt his pain. She knew that the severe arthritis in his
legs and the tumor on his spine would soon take him from her.
She just did not know what she would do when he was gone.
They had been together all their lives, first as childhood
friends, and then forty years of marriage. She knew that life
for her would be over when he passed. The doctor's prognosis
on her last visit was not good. He had said that she only
had a year or so to live and it was just to much to bare
yet she could not bring herself to tell him the truth.
She did not want to add to his own burden. Martha inwardly
cried herself to sleep.
***
John sat quietly looking out the window at the children
getting on the school bus as it hovered on the pad, his mind
wandered to that day so long ago----
John Marsh and Martha Whiting were the same age and shared the
same birth date. Their third grade teacher at Greenwood
Elementary School had a tradition of announcing her students
birthday's to the class and it was seldom that two students
had the same birth date. Although John and Martha had known
each other since kindergarten, it was not until that day
when Miss Mayfield had announced the birthdays that the
two of them realized their commonality.
From that day on, John and Martha gradually became inseparable
friends. They had waited until they were both 30 years old before
they got married. They had agreed to finish college and establish
their future so that any children would want for nothing. Finally
in 1990 they tied the knot and William was born the next year.
John and Martha had even started a tradition of placing flowers on
Miss Mayfield's grave on their birthday in grateful memory of that
day in 1969 when she had unwittingly brought them together.
As he watched the youngsters in their school uniforms, the boys
in white shirts and blue shorts, the girls in their white and
blue dresses standing at the landing zone with their parents
he thought of that day so long ago when he and Martha would take
turns doing the same thing with their two children William and Clara.
They had been so proud of them. He and Clara were their life and it
had been devastating to them when William had been killed while
fighting in the Caribbean Conflict of 2010. If it had not been
for their strong love for each other, and the obligation to take
care of Clara their 14 year old daughter, John knew that he and
Martha probably would have gone their separate ways or worse.
When Clara married Jason Grant and Susie was born, their life
seemed full again. Susie did not replace William, but she did
become the center of their attention.
Then he thought of the phone call from the doctor two days earlier.
He had told him about Martha's condition. When he asked how her
visit had gone, she had said fine. John knew that Martha had lied
to him but he understood. He knew that she was hiding the truth so
he would not worry. His own medical expenses when burdensome and the
added cost for Martha would soon financially ruined them. He knew
what was in Martha's mind. He did have a plan that he hoped would
resolve both their problems so he said nothing. It was a drastic
and relatively new concept and it would take most of their savings
but if it worked it would solve their problems for many more
years. He had decided to discuss the plan with her after he had all the
details. A few more days and he would know if it was viable. He had to
speak to the "NCT People" first.
***
John snapped out of his daydream as he heard Martha stir in the bed.
"Are you all right John?" Martha asked as she propped herself on one
elbow and looked at him, concern on her face.
"Yes dear. I had a bad night but I feel better now."
"Do you feel like eating some breakfast?" Martha asked.
"I guess so. Some toast and a poached egg will do."
Martha got slowly out of the bed and put on her bathrobe.
John eased himself out of the chair and followed her into
the small kitchen. He hoped that if his plan was to go
forward, that they would last long enough. He watched Martha
move slowly about the kitchen. John knew it was a task
for her just to get up in the morning and prepare breakfast.
'I had better do something soon' he thought.
Chapter 2
New Chance Technologies was an impressive building. Built
in the style of a nineteenth century mansion, it's white
colonnaded fa?ade and French windows gave the structure
a warm feeling of a bygone gentile era. The expansive
flower gardens on each side of the driveway and the distant
mountains beyond the Phoenix skyline added to the effect.
Having left Martha at the medical center, John had taken the
opportunity to meet with the customer service representative
at NCT. He needed to get first hand facts on their programs
before he broached the subject to Martha.
An hour later, John left the building to return to the
medical center and collect Martha. His meeting with Will Johnson
at NCT had gone well. It was all that he had thought it would be.
Expensive but well worth it and completely legal. He was
determined to discuss the plan with Martha that evening after supper.
Will Johnson told his secretary to placed the hold order on the
subjects in cube 23. He was confident that he had a solid sale.
The old man was a prime candidate and the units that he selected
were of the latest state of the art. It was close to quitting time
when his secretary placed the order. She did not notice that
the keyboard double struck the two and that 223 was placed on
hold for John and Martha Townsand.
***
It was close to 7 PM when John sitting in his favorite chair next
to Martha in the small but comfortable living room watched as she
finished reading the brochure from NCT. She looked at him seriously
for a moment and started to smile.
"Is this for real John?" She asked softly. "It seems more like
a fairy tale."
"No dear. No fairy tale. They actually can do all they say. The man
I spoke to, Will Johnson? is actually over eighty years old. He wears
his new body like a twenty eight year old."
Martha looked at John for a long moment. A question forming on
her lips. "I don't know John, those pictures of what we would look
like seem so foreign. I mean to be twenty five again, we would be
physically younger than Clara."
"Only a year or so dear. But up here where it counts we would be
the same." John replied, putting his index finger to his temple.
Martha looked back at the photos of the two young bodies in the
photographs. They stood in the glass cubicles and they seemed
like the perfect specimens of health and good looks. Flawless
would be a better word. "So tell me how this works again John?"
Martha inquired, looking up at her husband and reaching across
the space between their chairs to grasp his hand.
John knew at that moment that she would do whatever he said.
The final choice was his.
Chapter 3
"Daddy, are you and Mom loosing it. You can't be serious?" Clara
asked incredulously as she set the pamphlet from NCT down on
the kitchen table. "I mean dambed, you guys would be younger
than me. I know there are a lot of people doing this lately
but usually they try to stay a little closer to their own
generation group."
"Clara honey, This is going to take almost all our life savings.
I can't afford to just buy a few years, it has to be this way
in order to make sense and give your mom and I enough time
to recover our assets. From what the NCT people tell me,
we can only do this once. Besides, it will give us a lot of years
to spoil that daughter of yours, John replied pointing
at Susie playing on the living room rug with the cat.
Clara reached out and hugged her father and then in turn, her mother.
"Whatever you decide is fine Mom, Dad. I will be there for
you if you need me afterwards. I promise." Clara said, a small
tear in the corners of her eyes giving away the emotion she
was feeling. "Besides look at all the fun things Mom and I
will be able to do together now." Clara concluded with a week smile
in an attempt to hide her concern.
Three weeks later John and Martha, the legal aspects of the
process completed and their new Ids and ages being recorded,
entered the NCT facility and were ushered into the waiting
lounge next to the transfer rooms.
John and Martha sat nervously on the sofa. They did not
wait long as a young woman in a white lab coat came in
thru a side door.
"Mr. and Mrs. Townsand? she asked casually. I'm Doctor
Terri Roberts. I will be your transfer specialist. I just
wanted to speak to you briefly before your transfer is started."
She could tell the customers were nervous as they just
nodded their head in greeting.
"First of all, I was reviewing your file. I was quite surprised
at the choice you made. Most people are a little more conservative.
Are you both comfortable with this choice? You can change your
minds at this point.
Martha said nothing. She just shook her head negatively.
"No I don't think so Ms. Roberts. My wife and I have thought
this out thoroughly and are quite comfortable with our selection."
Terry Roberts looked at the couple quizzically for a moment
and then shook her head imperceptibly. "Then I guess that
does it. If you will follow me I will set you up in transfer
rooms A & B. The process only takes about two hours but
you will sleep for most of the morning afterwards. I will
have your daughter notified to pick you at the appropriate time.
It is obvious that you won't be able to go home alone afterwards."
Had John not been so nervous he may have picked up on the
girl's remarks about not going home alone, but the fates
had other ideas and neither John or Martha caught the remark.
"If you will each get undressed and put on the hospital
gown provided and then lay down on the table, I will have
you prepped quickly. Mrs. Townsand, I will get you ready
first. Procedure dictates that I bring in your new body
after your asleep. This tends to keep our patients calm.
Martha and John both nodded. They then stood outside Room A.
Martha turned and hugged her husband. "Whatever happens dear,
I do love you. Always."
"And I you Sweetheart." See you in a few hours. He kissed
her and turned and walked down towards the next room. Martha
could not see the tears running down his face.
+++
The orderlies each put the subjects from cube 223 on the
gurneys and headed for transfer rooms A and B. Since the
subjects were identical the orderlies did not have to
check the manifest to match up the subjects.
The small forms were wheeled in next to the patients.
One of the orderlies just shook his head when he saw the
old man that was about to transfer into the body of
the young female form.
"He must be some kind of fag or something." the orderly
said to himself. "Oh well his business not mine."
Had the orderly just questioned this odd exchange, NCT
would have saved themselves a lot trouble and explaining,
not to mention the financial losses due to error. The second
and last opportunity was missed.
+++
Will Johnson looked up at the clock on his office wall and
noted the time. The transfer had take place over an hour
earlier and as was his custom and duty as Executive Director
he always checked on the progress personally before the
patients were awakened to assure that there were no complications.
Of course in the five years the center had been licensed there
had never been a single problem. Still it was his obligation
to assure there was none. He advised his secretary that he
would be back in time for his next appointment and headed down
the corridor towards the transfer facility.
He walked down the viewing corridor and each time he did so
he marveled at the specimens on display in their glass enclosed
cubes. They were all perfect. They had come a long way with the
cloning process. Perfect in every way. Each waiting for the
transfer of the consciousness and subconscious, albeit,
of housing the memories and soul of the donor, of becoming
the new home of the donor. This process was a lot more than
just simple cloning, it provided humanity with the ability
to live a second lifetime or at least a part of one.
As he walked down corridor two he came to a sudden stop.
He was surprised to see the specimens in cube 23 were still
there. Hurrying his pace he headed for the transfer facility.
"Dambed, if there was a problem, why had Terri not called him.
He mumbled to himself. He was perplexed. This had never happened
before. He walked into the transfer facility and found Terri
sitting at her monitoring station sipping a coffee as if everything
was fine.
"Hi Will, coming to check as usual." She said cheerfully upon
seeing her boss enter the station.
"Terri, what the hell is going on?"
Seeing his face and sensing his mood, Terri became serious.
"What do you mean Will?" Everything is going OK." She replied.
"What about the Townsands? I just saw their clones are still in
their cubes as I came over here." Will stated flatly.
Will walked over to the monitor screens and looked into the
rooms. "Oh shit. Terri, tell me those are not the Townsands."
"Why yes they are Will. Why?"
"Those bodies are the little girls that are supposed to go to
the Brayward sisters next week."
Terri dropped her coffee cup on the floor as she reached for the
manifest. "That's impossible Will. Look it says right here,
Cube 223, Townsands. I checked the wrist tags on the subjects
when the orderly wheeled them in, here are the tags.
"Shit Terri, That was supposed to say Cube 23 not 223."
There was several seconds of silence in the room as Will
and Terri realized the implications of the error.
"Will, this is bad. We have turned an elderly couple into
a set of eight year old twin girls. How are going to explain
this to them." Terri asked in a very frightened voice. This
could put us out of business.
"Keep them asleep. I need to get the lawyers in here pronto.
I'll call down when I find out something. Oh, did you call their
daughter, Clara?"
"No not yet." Terri answered.
"Then don't. I'll do it." Will stated flatly and turned and left
the room.
Terri went into the recovery room and looked in on her charges.
The two little girls in their matching pink dresses and white
tights and Mary Janes. They had been prepared to leave
the center when they awoke. It would be more than the standard
eight hours now she thought.
They looked so cute lying side by side in the bed. The blue
and pink wrist band being the only way to tell John from Martha.
She was worried about how Mr. Townsand would react when he
woke up. Martha had been a little girl before so Terri felt
she would be able to adjust reasonably well, but the man,
she was not so sure about. They had not only screwed up by
giving them the wrong bodies but they had just negated the
Townsands marriage. Terri decided to leave them dressed as they
were. She did take theirs shoes off and set them on the
floor under the bed. She gave each girl a dose of sleeping
spray into the nostrils assuring they would stay asleep for
at least twelve hours.
Chapter 4
Will Johnson spent the rest of the day and most of the early
evening closeted with the attorneys. The consensus was that
NCT was liable due to gross mismanagement. The exact amount of
the liability was the an issue that could not be determined but
would most likely be substantial. The bottom line from
Ned Hatfield the lead attorney was that NCT was in violation
of several state statures by keeping the Townsands unconscious and
not advising the probable next of kin (Clara) of the mistake
and in addition was in for a lot of trouble from the Feds.
The Federal statutes on body swapping procedures was quite specific,
"No mind transfers were to be performed in which the subjects
were transferred into categories that were inconsistent with their
former legal age status. In other words, no minor to adult or
adult to minor transfers were permitted. The only saving grace
was that cross gender swapping was allowed.
The opinion of the attorneys was that NCT had violated this
prohibition even if accidentally. It was also their consensus that
Clara Grant was technically the next of kin and that the
two girls that were formally her parents were no longer legally
adults, at least for the short term, even though they had the
intellect of adults. This was going to raise all sorts of legal
questions that only the courts could decide.
Clara and her husband were probably going to be declared their
temporary guardians however until the courts had ruled on the
Townsands legal status and that it would behoove NCT to get
Clara Grant in for an immediate explanation of the mistake
and an offer of compensation.
"What about their Ids, Ned? I don't think the one we had originally
prepared will apply now. They certainly are not 25 years old and
John's name won't be appropriate now." Will asked,
"I agree, but I think we had better hold off on any action
there until the Townsands are awake and can make their own
decisions. I think you had better adjust the records to show
that the Townsands have received the bodies of eight years
old girls in error. Don't try to cover it up. That would
be the worse thing that you could do." Ned replied.
"Your right Ned. I'll have Mary place a document of the
mistake in the Townsands file right now."
+++
Will made the phone call at 8pm to Clara. After assuring her
that her parents were alive and well but sleeping but that
there was a "slight" problem that he had to discuss with her.
At first Clara insisted that she come right over to NCT but
Will convinced her that her parents needed to sleep for another
twelve hours at least. Clara assured him that she would be at NCT
at 8 AM sharp.
Will hung up. He sat and stared at the company logo on the opposite
wall contemplating what he was going to say to her and her
response when she found out her parents were now irreversibly
eight year old twin girls with the minds of adults.
Moreover, he also wondered how the Townsands themselves would
react. His gut feeling was that they were going to be extremely
upset. It was a bad situation.
+++
"Mr. Johnson, Jason and Clara Grant are here to see you."
"Thank you Mary. Send them in."
Mary Walters, Will's secretary ushered the Grants into his
office. She noted that the couple, especially the woman,
Clara, did not seem happy at all. Mary was glad that it was
Mr. Johnson and the attorneys that would have to handle this
matter and not herself.
Will Johnson rose and came from around his desk as Mary escorted
the Grants to the side conference area by the windows. Will
noticed that Clara Grant displayed a countenance of displeasure
on her face. Jason Grant was harder to read. He nodded to Will
as he came into the office but said nothing, his face a blank.
The conference area was a cheery place. Large plush
dark blue velvet covered chairs around a low round
mahogany table set within the arch of the large bow
windows that looked out over the front grounds.
Clara took no notice of this. She was livid. She
had been denied access to her parents and she had
become determined to get some straight forward answers.
"Mr. Grant, Mrs. Grant, please, have a seat. I'm Will
Johnson, executive director of NCT. May I get you
some coffee?" Will asked courteously.
"Cut the formalities Mr. Johnson. Where are may parents?
I want to see them. Now!" Clara replied vehemently.
"Please Mrs. Grant. I assure you they are fine. I must
insist however that I brief you on the error that occurred
here yesterday. After I have answered any questions you have
I will take you to see them. I believe they are having
breakfast as we speak."
+++
It was shortly after 5:00 AM when John and Martha were
slowly brought to consciousness.
Will had asked Terri to make sure that the staff psychologist
Walter Chambers was present when the children were awakened
in case he was needed. When informed of the nature of the case,
Chambers' reply had been: "You got to be kidding Terri.
I am not sure what I could council then on if it turns nasty.
What do I say to two grown adult who find themselves turned into
little girls. Especially the man. He could freak out."
"That's what you get the big bucks for Walter." Terri replied
with an edge to her voice. She never did like Chambers.
"You ought to get rid of him." She had once told Will Johnson.
"He is always whining and you know that in almost all our
transformees there is never a need for his services anyway.
"I know Terri but it is a federal requirement that we have a
psychologist on the staff." Will had replied.
Terri turned her attention back to the two girls. She had
given each a small amount of stimulant in each nostril. Slowly,
gently, the two smallforms started to stir. Chambers had taken a seat
next to Martha, Terri sat on the other side of the bed next to
John. Terri made note of the fact that the children had not
moved all night. The little dresses that they had been dressed
in the day before did not have a wrinkle anywhere.
The two girls opened their eyes almost simultaneously.
The first to speak was the girl with the blue band
on her wrist. She looked at her companion and then herself.
For several moments the two children just looked at
each other and then at themselves in bewilderment.
Then understanding of what was happening dawned on
John, "Oh My!" She exclaimed.
+++
As Will concluded the explanation on the events of
the preceding day, Clara studied the photographs that
Will had handed her.
"Handing the photos to her husband Clara looked straight
into Will's eyes. "You have got to be kidding Mr. Johnson.
You have turned my parents into little girls. This is
outrageous. How the hell could you make such a stupid
incompetent mistake."
The tone in her voice was icy. Will was at a loss for words.
This was going to be costly. He looked at Ned who had just
entered the office.
"Mrs. Grant, Mr. Grant, I'm Ned Hatfield. I'm head of
NCT's legal department. We at NCT are extremely upset
with this mistake. I assure you that it is not NCT's
policy to be sloppy. It appears that it was a simple
oversight that got out of hand. We will of course take
full responsibility for our error and make full
restitution for your parents current and future expenses."
Our staff psychologist and medical staff are as we speak
explaining to your parents what happened. As soon as they
have concluded we will take you to the medical facility
and you can see them."
"Mr. Hatfield, are my wife's parents in good health or in any
danger because of this mistake"? Jason asked. Speaking for the
first time.
"None at all." Mr. Grant Will replied. " As a mater of fact,
the bodies they now possess are exceptionally healthy."
"Good. I fully expect to take them with us when we leave here.
I trust you will not have a problem with that." Jason stated icily.
"None at all. If we can be of any service....?" Will was interrupted
as Clara spoke up.. "I think we will have our attorneys decide
what you will be required to do later. Now will you let us see
my parents?"
Will went to his desk and called down to the medical facility.
"Ok Terri. Ten minutes." Will hung up the phone and returned
to the conference table.
"This way please. They are ready now."
Chapter 5
The two children sat on the edge of the bed as Terri
explained what had happened. Martha just listened passively,
a smile on her pretty face. John did not seem happy at all
but said nothing. He just kept running his hand nervously
over the material of the dress he was wearing.
"So that's it? There is no way you can correct this mistake?"
John asked, an edge to his childlike voice.
"None John. I'm sorry. The human mind can not withstand a second
transfer. Maybe in a few years we will work out that problem
but for now, no."
"John. It is not that bad. At least we will be together and
look at how young we are. We will have a whole lifetime to
enjoy. And think, no pain." Martha stated softly as she reached
out and took John's hand.
"Yeh fine. That's easy for you to say Martha. Being a little
girl is nothing new to you, but me, I have no idea what it
is like and I am not sure I can handle it." John replied
sharply, instantly regretting his harshness.
"It is ok lover, I will teach you." Martha said softly.
For the next hour the two young girls who had been
husband and wife sat together at the small table in the
corner of the room talking softly. Walter had left when
it was obvious that he was not needed. Terri went into the
small pantry and made tea for herself and cocoa for the
girls. She then left them alone and went into the adjoining
observation room to watch. She was quite surprised at how
easily the two victims of NCT's foul up seem to accept
their situation. She had been sure the male would have
'lost' it but instead seem quite calm.
Terri picked up the phone on the first ring. "Yes Will
I think it will be alright. They seem to have accepted
what has happened without too much difficulty. If you
are coming now, Take your time. I will get the children
over to the reception area. I don't want their daughter
in the recovery area."
+++
As Clara and Jason were about to leave Will Johnson's
office for the walk over to the facility, Ned Hatfield
handed Clara a card.
"Mrs. Grant, please have your attorney contact my office
at your convenience. I am sure we can work out a settlement."
"I am sure we can Mr. Hatfield. I am sure we can."
Clara said icily. She turned and left Hatfield
standing in the hallway. "Now Mr. Johnson, I think
it is time we collected my parents."
+++
Terri sighed. This was the time she dreaded. She
was not sure how this meeting between the Townsands
and their daughter would play out but it had to be done.
She crossed her fingers and went back into the room.
"John, Martha, your daughter Clara and her husband are
on their way down here to see you. I think it would be
better to meet them in one of our reception areas."
"Clara is here now?" Martha asked, more a statement than
a question. "That's wonderful. Come on John, Lets go."
"I would suggest you put on your shoes first and let me
brush out your hair. " Terri quipped.
As they walked down the corridor to the reception area,
John noticed that Martha was happy. She even did that
little girl skip as she walked. John on the
other hand was more sullen. He was quite aware of the
firmness of the tights around his legs and the feel
of the petticoat under the dress gently caressing
his thighs. The small Mary Jane shoes clicking on the
tiles as he walked. The feeling was totally alien to him
yet somehow soothing. His emotions were in conflict.
His male mind said one thing and the little girl's body
he was wearing seemed to say another. John had always
been a man's man. Mentally he was determined to overcome
this problem somehow. So he thought.
Terri left the girls outside the door to the reception area.
She knew that she could monitor the activity on the
monitors in the control room and could be back in the
area in seconds if need be.
"This is it. I believe Clara is inside waiting. I will
leave you alone now." She leaned down and gave each child
a hug. Taking a pair of scissors from her tunic, She cut
off the bands from their wrists.
"Good luck to you both." Terri turned and walked through
a door on the opposite side of the hall.
"How old did they say we were? Martha asked.
"Eight. Why?" John asked as he looked into his former wife's face.
"Oh, it just seems strange that's all John. We are Clara's
parents yet I think we are about to become her daughters.
I know we expected a life change when we decided on this body
swap thing, but I did not ever dream that it would be this way."
"Tell me about it Martha. Not like this anyway."
John replied pulling the hem of his dress out to the
side to emphasize his point.
"Well, lets get it over with." Martha said as she
took John's hand in her own and opened the door.
+++
Clara and Jason rose instantly as the two small
girls entered the room. They had both studied the
photographs of the two girls that were in cube 223
but they were totally surprised at the difference
that these children presented. They were beautiful.
Clara and Jason just stood transfixed as the twins
walked toward them hand in hand.
"Mom? Dad? Clara asked in awe, unable to tell one from the other.
"Clara pumpkin, it's me, Mom." The girl on the right said.
Clara went down on her knees and hugged the girl for
the longest moments. Tears streaming down her face.
Jason looked at the other girl standing behind Martha
patiently waiting. Jason spoke, "Dad?" he said incredulously.
The girl just nodded her head. There was a moment of silence.
"Not anymore. I don't think that will wash now." She quipped.
Jason sunk to his knees beside Clara and took the other
girl in his arms. For the next five minutes the foursome
engaged in a group hug.
A new family was coming together at that moment..
Chapter 6
John and Martha sat in the back of Jason's aircar for the
ride to their daughter's home. Their new home. Martha had
attempted to reach across and take her 'husband's' hand on
a couple of occasions but John had pulled away each time.
Martha knew that John was in turmoil now that he found
himself trapped in a little girl's body. She knew it had to be
an alien concept for him and he needed some time to adjust.
She knew the marriage to John was over considering the
circumstances they were in but that did not mean she did not
care for the man still locked inside the girl that she would
have to call sister from now on. "Strange," she thought. She
felt closer to him now than ever.
When Martha attempted to take his hand he looked at her
and then pulled away. He knew that in looking at her that
what he saw was a mirror image of what he himself was.
John looked out the window of the car, more to hide the
tears that welled in his eyes than any curiosity of what
was on the ground below. He felt sorrow for Martha and for
what they had lost. All because of some ridiculous error
on NCI's part. Their marriage was over, he was trapped
in a girl's body and he even had to submit to letting his
own daughter be their guardian. He would not admit even to
himself how scared he felt at what the future had in store
for them. He stifled a sob that attempted to overcome him.
He used the sleeve of his dress to wipe away the tears that
ran from his eyes and down his cheeks. Little did he realize
at the time that he was experiencing the first of his female
child emotions.
To the casual observer, One would never guess that the two
cute twin girls in their pretty pink dresses and pigtails
were anything other than what they seemed to be. At that
point in time John, now Johanna would have had a lot
different opinion. Time would change all that however.
The next three months was a period of challenge and
exploration for the new family. The former parents
now officially adopted children had to find a meld
between their former lives and there new legal status
as minors. This was made easier with the acceptance
by Susie of her new older sisters. They had bonded
almost immediately. It was like some invisible
chemistry worked between them. John and Martha understood
why but Susie just accepted. John was still having
internal problems however.
The initial court rulings had stated that the real assets
of John and Martha Townsand were to be sold and the proceeds
after debt retirement was to be placed in trust until the
twins were eighteen. Personal property could be retained
by the Grants.
The girls were given the legal names of Martha Grant and
Johanna Grant. Their legal age set at eight years and
four months. This was based on the documents supplied by NCT
on the biological age of the donors. Schooling was of
course required but the uniqueness of their situation
was not one of basic education, the Judge recognizing
that these children had a lifetime of experience, rather
it was one of bonding. Learning to become children again.
Their physical bodies were not capable of assuming an
adult role for some time and of course Johanna especially
had to learn about her new gender. The law was specific
however. Johanna and Martha Grant were legal minors now.
School was mandatory regardless of their mental capacity.
It had not been determined medically as to whether such mind
transfers from adult into children's brains would allow the
transferee to maintain their adult capacities or if the
smaller brain would cause loss of memory and subsequent
reversion to childhood. The courts had therefore dictated
that John and Martha be treated like any other eight year
old child until evaluation was completed.
That situation was resolved with the enrollment of the
two girls and of course Susie, their new sister, in the special
program's unit at St. Mary's School for Girls. Sister Angelica was
more than happy to extend the enrollment limit when she heard the
explanation regarding these new students.
NCT had settled on an amount that would guarantee that
the girls would never want for anything within reason.
Their living expenses, clothing allowance, education
costs were all adequately covered and a $500,000 stipend
was set aside for each girl, in trust, for the time that
they decided to start a family of their own or go on
to college.
As it turned out, Martha Grant slipped easily into the role
of the little girl. Of course it was easy for her, she
had been there and done that before. The young new hormones
that she now possessed mixed nicely with her feminine
personality. She rapidly regressed into little girl mode.
She did not lose her adult memories and comprehension
she just seemed to prefer to little girl persona better.
This was an unforeseen event that even NCT did not expect.
Johanna on the other was having a more difficult
time with the change. His new feminine hormones were
at war with his remembered maleness. Every new girlish
experience screamed at his memory of his male past.
Even with Martha's help he was having problems.
Clara was getting worried. She hoped that Sister Angelica
would be able to pull off one of her small miracles before
her father-now-daughter lost it and went off the deep end.
Jason had an addition built onto the house and made a
large bedroom for the three children to share. He designed
it in such a way that in time he could convert it into
separate rooms as the girls got older. It was hoped that
this childlike intimacy with Martha and Susie would eventually
help Johanna adjust to her new role. To some extent it did
but not completely. She still remained sullen and constantly
argued about having to wear a dress to church on Sunday or
when they went out in public. Clara was adamant on that point.
She reminded Johanna that it was also his own rule when she
was a child and she was only following his own teaching about
proper attire. During that first month Clara would often find
Johanna curled up on her bed crying. She would pull away from
her when Clara would try to console her.
Part 2
(You do remember Amy Collins from the Amy dear Amy story?
If not, please read it to understand next sequel for she
makes an appearance in the following chapters.)
Chapter 7
Sister Angelica sat behind her desk looking out the
window at the sloping lawns in front of the administration
building. The aging nun thought about all the girls that
had come through her doors over the last fifty years.
Although she was semi-retired and Sister Monica was
in reality the head of the school now, she was still the
head of special projects.
Sister Angelica turned her attention to the folder on her
desk. 'Johanna Grant; Age 8 years. Admit to Grade 3; was
printed on the folder cover. The cover was red flagged
indicating a potential problem case.
The nun read through the biography of the person that
had once been John Townsand and then turned the page
to the history of how he had ended up as a little girl.
"Married 50 years and then ends up as his wife's twin sister."
The nun just shook her head. 'No wonder he is confused and
rebellious. This has got to be extremely difficult for him she
thought to herself.
Setting the folder aside, she picked up Martha Grants folder.
It was not red flagged. Angelica read thru the bio and
was surprised to read that the girl was adjusting well to being
a child again. The psychologist's report indicated that she
was for all intensive purposes, reverting back to childhood.
The medical report gave no concrete reason for this. Just
some reference to hormones and the experience of being a little
girl once before. Martha seemed to be losing her need to be
treated as an adult.
Sister Angelica picked up the phone and waited until the image
of her assistant came on the monitor.
"Sister , would you please call Clara Grant. Tell her we
will provide admittance to the children. They should be
here for registration on Monday. I would like to speak to
Johanna after Mass on Sunday. Tell Mrs. Grant that Johanna
must be wearing the prettiest dress that she can find."
Sister Angelica hung up the phone and turned and looked
out the window again.
This time however she did not see the lawns, her mind
turned inward and she contemplated her course of action.
+++
It had been almost a month since John and Martha had been
body swapped. Although the plan had been for them to be
given the bodies of young adults, NCT had made a mistake
and had swapped them into the bodies of twin 8 year old girls.
The procedure was permanent. NCT had made a rapid and generous
settlement and had instituted a major overhaul of their system
to assure that the clones did not get mixed again.
That of course did not help John. He was stuck as a little
girl and was having great difficulty accepting his new status.
Martha on the other hand was reverting nicely to her role.
This difference was confounding Clara and Jason Grant
as well as the doctors that she had engaged.
Clara Grant was John and Martha's daughter but due to the
legal ramifications of this first adult to child swap, she found
herself forced to become the girl's mother. What else could
she do? It was that or lose whatever was left of her parents.
Clara set the phone back in the cradle. She was relieved that
the girls were to be accepted at St. Mary's School. This would
take a huge burden from her shoulders. Clara was puzzled by
the request to get Johanna into a pretty dress for her meeting
with Sister Angelica.
Clara shrugged her shoulders. "She must know what she is doing."
She said to herself. She walked out onto the deck to check on the
girls. Martha and Susie were sitting at the tea set playing peacefully
and giggling like all young girls do when they are having fun.
Johanna was sitting by herself on the swing listlessly kicking the
sand under her feet. She did not look happy.
Clara just shook her head and went back inside. She was worried
about her former father.
Chapter 8
It was a late Saturday afternoon and Susie was in the living room
watching television. Johanna and Martha were alone in the bedroom.
They had changed from shorts and sleeveless jerseys that they called
play wear, into cute little pink pleated skirt and yellow blouse
ensembles. Johanna sat in a quiet huff as Martha put his hair
in twin ponytails and tied them on each side of his face.
How he hated to dress this way. It was humiliating.
Clara had told them that they were going shopping after supper for
some school and Sunday clothes and they needed to look nice.
Besides, Clara was a stickler for proper attire at the dinner table.
Johanna could not complain at this as it had been he that had taught
his daughter this point of civilized behavior. Martha could not
help be amused at Johanna's irritation but at the same time felt
sorry for him.
"John, (In private Martha still called him by his old name) I'm sorry."
She said suddenly. "Is it really that bad?"
"Bad? Martha, you haven't got the faintest idea how bad it is."
John replied sharply. Here I am, and old man inside, having to
dress like a kid, a little girl at that, and I have no way out."
"Then why don't you just try to make the best of it. Enjoy
being young again. Being a girl will come of it's own. I
do understand how you feel. It is a lot different for me
also. It is not the same being a little girl as I
remember it to be. I am also still expected to act like
a child too, you know." Martha replied softly.
"Yeh I know. It has to be hard on you too but I still have no
idea how to be soft and dainty like you. You have had your whole
life to learn that. I have only known how to be rough and tough
all my life. Now all I keep getting told is to keep my legs
together when I sit. And by my own daughter at that." John replied.
Martha laughed. "Is that all you can think of John? Clara telling
you to keep your legs together? Really." Martha could not help
but stifle a giggle.
John stared at his former wife for almost a minute. Suddenly
he realized the absurdity of the remark and he smiled and then
started to laugh. Martha joined in and for the first time since
the change they laughed together long and hard.
A few minutes later they heard Clara call for them to come to
supper. As Johanna and Martha walked into the dining room,
they were greeted by Jason.
"Hi girls." Jason said from his place at the head of the table.
"Gee you both look nice. Clara tells me you guys are going shopping
for school clothes after supper."
"And me too" Susie piped in from her seat next to Jason.
"I know Sweetheart, but I was speaking to your sisters."
"Jason. Please stop. You know how hard it is on Johanna when
you start that stuff." Clara stated firmly as she carried a
tray of food to the table." Her tone of voice left no room
for discussion.
"Johanna, Martha, please sit down." Clara stated firmly.
Johanna was fuming. Jason had been teasing his former father-in-law
lately and she did not like it or know why he was doing it.
It was hard enough have to be this way without Jason adding
to his discomfort. Johanna was going to find out what Jason's
reason was for his teasing. It would have to wait however.
Johanna had bigger obstacles to overcome.
A little over an hour later, Clara and her three little charges
walked into the J.C. Penny department store. Clara herded her
girls straight to the Girls Department.
The first part of shopping was for school uniforms. Three jumper
and blouse sets for each girl and some new slips and panties
and the important purchases were made. Johanna's heart sank
as Clara headed the girls to the racks that contained the
most pretty of the dress styles.
"Now a dress for just you Johanna. I know you don't like it but
Sister Angelica wants to see you after Mass tomorrow and said
that you were to look your best."
"Why me Clara. Why do I have to get all prettied up. Why not
Susie or Martha?" Johanna asked with some rebellion in her voice.
"Johanna, I have told you not to call me Clara. I am your mother
now and expect to be called such." Clara said flatly.
"Yes ma'am." The little girl replied. First Jason and now Clara.
That part of the child that was still the man John, was feeling
defeated. Resistance went out of him as he tried on one pretty
dress after another. He gave no resistance but he also did not
display any interest in one dress from another. Clara finally
settled on a dress for the meeting with Sister Angelica. Johanna
was not happy with the very feminine little girl look of the dress.
Clara also purchased a dress for each of the other girls but
their choices were quick yet still received with squeals of pleasure
as Martha and Susie carried their dresses to the checkout
counter. Johanna would not carry hers so Clara did it for her.
Johanna's rebellion cost her when they got home. She was sent
strait upstairs and to bed. Martha and Susie were allowed to
stay up later than usual. Johanna cried herself to sleep that night.
Much later, all three girls asleep in their beds, Clara and
Jason came into the bedroom and checked on the children.
After tucking the girls in securely, Clara turned and kissed
Johanna on the forehead. "I am sorry Dad. But this is the only
way. It is for your own good even though you don't know it now.
There is no going back. I love you either way."
Jason also kissed each girl in turn. As he straightened
up after kissing Johanna's cheek, he gently squeezed her tiny hand.
Chapter 9
"Amy, I really need your help on this one. I asked her
mother to dress her as feminine as possible tomorrow.
That should bring her rebellion down to a manageable level.
I know it worked with you once." The aging Sister Angelica
said to the still pretty woman.
Amy Mulligan sat in the nun's study and listened to the
problem presented to her. She periodically glanced at
the documents in the folder and shook her head. She thought
back to that day so long ago when she had found herself in
a similar situation. Not by accident but by a deliberate
act by her brain surgeon ex-father. For her, the transition
and her coping with her new gender was greatly helped
by the befriending of Shawnlea O'Malley. This girl also
needed an understanding friend."
"Sister, If what you say is true and this youngster is fighting
the change that strongly, it will eventually effect her mentally."
Amy said as the nun finished her appeal. "Doesn't he or I should
say she, relate at all with her twin. Ah, Martha, his ex-wife?
I would have thought that Martha would be Johanna's best bet here?"
"I would have thought so too Amy, but from what Clara tells me
Johanna has thrown up a barrier even there. It appears that Johanna
thinks of Martha as a little girl now, but considers herself still
a man being forced to dress like a girl."
"You did say the change is complete." Asked Amy, raising her eyes
from the documents and looking over the top of her half glasses.
"Oh yes Amy. NCT has certified that the bodies they received were
cloned from the best XX pair of genes available at the time. Johanna
is a girl in every aspect except the mental part. There she is still
John Townsand." The Nun said sadly. I have agreed to take him into
my program but you are now the Head of Faculty and I need your
support on this one. I want you to be her teacher."
Amy sat and looked at the Nun for better than a minute before answering.
She could see the pleading in the old Nun's eyes. Amy's heart softened.
Amy had been teaching these transgendered boy/girls for better than
ten years and she was hoping to end it with the end of this semester.
This new case would require her to stay on for another year.
"Alright Sister, But this is the last time. One more year and then
my husband Jimmy And I intend to take MY daughter Shaunna on a
long vacation." Amy said teasingly.
"Thank you Amy, Thank you. I'll see you after Mass tomorrow and you
can meet Johanna here in the reception room." Sister Angelica
got up slowly and walked around the desk and gave Amy a cheek to
cheek hug. "You know Amy, I think I will make this my last challenge
as well. It is getting harder all the time and I am getting old."
+++
The Sunday morning ritual was the same. Clara would get the children
up at 7:00 AM and fill the master bathroom Jacuzzi. It was large enough
to accommodate all three girls at the same time. Martha and Susie
would play for a few minutes before settling down to the matter at hand.
Johanna would just get herself clean and get out of the tub. She did
not take any interest in the girlish activities of her sisters.
Clara would come in to the check on their progress and it was always
Johanna who would get her ministrations first. This particular
Sunday was different. Clara had Johanna put on a bathrobe and go
down to breakfast. She then got Martha and Susie dressed first.
They put on the new dresses that Clara had bought the day before and
after brushing out there hair and putting in matching ribbons, she
sent them down to breakfast.
Jason had breakfast on the table when Clara and the two girls came down
stairs. Johanna was seated in her bathrobe sipping some orange juice.
"Johanna, when breakfast is over I will get you ready. I have
to get you especially nice today. You have a meeting with your
new teacher after Mass."
"Oh really Clara. After seventy years I don't think anyone can teach
me anything I don't already know. Can't we just skip all this? I don't
think going back to the third grade is going to accomplish much."
"Not really. Look at yourself Daddy, all I or anyone else sees
is a pretty little 8 year old girl. 8 year olds have got to go to
school. You need to stop trying to be something else. The old you is
gone. You have a unique opportunity to live a wonderful life, stop
fighting it." Clara said gently.
"Really John, this is getting out of hand. We chose this and there
was an unfortunate mistake. It did not kill us and we are lucky
Clara and Jason are understanding. Knock it off." Martha said.
Her reversion to an adult like retort causing Johanna to wince.
"Not you too Martha? I would have thought you would understand
of all people how I feel." John said with a hurt voice.
"And how is that John? Like me? Yes dear, just like me. The only
difference is that you have to learn to wear a dress. Big deal.
Take a good look between your legs and you can see why you have to
wear the same clothes as Susie and me. Also I still have to be a child
again just like you. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and just do as I do.
It will be a lot easier" Martha retorted.
Johanna said nothing in reply. She just looked deep into her
juice glass. Her hands were trembling. Martha's sharp comments
reminded him of the old Martha before she got sick. The old
'no nonsense' Martha was still inside her. Johanna knew better
than to argue with her. He would lose.
The rest of breakfast went quietly. No one said anything else about
Johanna's predicament but Martha watched her former husband's hands tremble.
Inwardly she felt compassion for him, and sorry for what she had just
said. She had to be more sensitive to his plight and help him adjust.
"But how?" She thought. "He is fighting this at every turn...."
Clara was not insensitive to her father's plight either. She knew he was
having a difficult time with the whole concept of having to be a
little girl but she knew that he had to adjust or it would eventually
put him in a mental institution. Clara loved these children not only
for who they were now but for who they were before. They were her
parents and now her daughters. Clara sighed. "What a strange quandary
for a family to be in. Well so be it. We will overcome." She thought
to herself as she cleared the breakfast table.
"Come on Johanna, it is time to get you ready for church. Clara
stated flatly leaving no room for argument as she reached out
and took Johanna's hand.
Johanna sighed as she got up from her seat at the table and followed
Clara's lead towards the stairs. He hated these times when he had
to get all prettied up and go outside. He was sure that everyone that
saw him was laughing at the "old man in a little girl's body". Because
of this Johanna had made a point of not going out to play with the
other neighborhood children like Martha and Susie did. Johanna was
content to stay in the house and watch TV or use the computer and
surf the internet. Johanna had rebuffed Martha and Susie on each
occasion that they tried to get her to go with them. Now Clara was
obviously intent on making him do just that. This meeting with
a teacher after church was going to seal his fate. Going to school
was going to require him to associate with other children his 'age' and
he was afraid of the idea.
Clara had laid Johanna's new clothes out on her bed before going
downstairs for breakfast. As the girl entered the room and say what
was laid out she pulled her hand away from Clara.
"Clara, you have to be kidding. I am not going to be seen in public
wearing that stuff. That stuff is more girlish than anything
else I have had to wear before." Johanna whined.
"I'm sorry 'daddy' but that is what Sister Angelica said for you
to wear. The prettiest outfit I could find. You didn't say
anything yesterday when I had you try it on."
"I know Clara but all this other stuff. You didn't tell me I
would have to wear that stuff too."
"Johanna they are only the accessories that go with the dress.
You can't go to church half dressed you know. If you are going
to wear a pretty dress then the other stuff goes with it.
"Well I tell you what Clara, I will stay home and you can give
the outfit to Martha. I have made up my mind. I am not going to
be treated like a little girl anymore. I am your father damb it.
I am seventy years old and I do have all my mental capacities."
John was almost yelling as he blurted out the tirade.
Johanna stopped abruptly as Clara landed a not to soft slap
on her cheek. "That I learned from Mom the hard way Johanna."
Now stop acting like a baby and do as I say. You are an eight
years old girl. Period. You are certainly not a seventy year
old man anymore. Start accepting it. Just think of it this way,
you and Martha will be the smartest kids in the third grade.
Now take off that bathrobe and I will get you dressed".
Clara said, a look of hurt in her eyes at what she had just done.
Johanna was in shock. She could not believe that Clara had actually
slapped her. The result took all fight out of her as she
complied with Clara's demand. Clara softened almost immediately
as Johanna stopped her fighting. "Now sweetheart lets get you dressed."
Johanna stood in front of the mirror as Clara fixed the yellow ribbon
to the back of her hair. The ends of the ribbon trailing down almost
to her shoulders accenting the highlights of her hair which was brushed
to a beautiful sheen. No pigtails today. instead Clara had brushed it
out so that it hung down her back almost to her waist. In her mind
John had to admit that he was pretty. The yellow satin dress was
exquisite. It had a lace bodice and puff sleeves. The full skirt was
covered with yellow netting with just a hint of the petticoat underneath
showed as it peeked out at mid thigh. The dress buttoned up the back
and was secured with a large satin bow. The white brocaded tights and
patent leather Mary Jane's with it's delicate instep strap gave her the
ultimate in little girl prettiness. For just a moment John felt a sense
of pride in his appearance. The moment passed as Martha came into the bedroom.
"Oh Johanna, you are pretty." Martha said with a gasp, her hand slightly
over her mouth as she saw the image of her former husband.
"I know Martha, that's the point. I feel silly dressed like this."
"Don't be. You are just what you appear to be. A pretty girl. I wish
Clara had bought me a dress like that."
"Your welcome to it anytime Martha. I would rather have a shirt and
a pair of pants even if they were a little boy's. I would feel a
lot more natural."
"Maybe, but you would look a lot more silly in them than you
do now. Come on, Mom is waiting for us downstairs. We are all
ready to leave for church. And Johanna, please try to act a
little more feminine today. I'm sure you do not want to
embarrass Clara and Jason again."
'Alright, I'll try because you asked Martha, but don't think I
will like it."
Chapter 10
John kept his word. He did everything that was expected of him
while 'he' was at Mass. Clara and Jason were complimented on several
occasions about how cute and adorable their girls were. Each time
Johanna felt 'he' was losing the battle. As far as everyone they
knew was concerned 'he' was a pretty well mannered girl. Martha would
smile at 'him' each time they were complimented and 'he' did not
make some comment or gesture to the contrary.
Johanna was quite aware that he was being observed discreetly by
one of the nuns sitting up front. He caught her on several occasions
during the Mass looking and smiling at him. This un-nerved him slightly
but he kept his promise to Martha and said nothing. He had not met
Sister Angelica yet but he was sure that that was who the nun was.
She appeared to be almost as old as he had been before the mind
swap and if this was Sister Angelica, John felt that he could
relate to her. That is if she would respond in kind. John felt
just a bit on edge about meeting her though. He had a gut feeling
that it would not turn out the way he thought. He did not know-
it then but his last assumption was to prove prophetic.
+++
The Mass ended and after filing out of the church proper Clara
and Jason took the girls around to the side of the church and down
the walkway to the side door of the school. As expected Johanna
saw the nun and another woman standing in the doorway waiting.
"Hello Mrs. Grant, Mr. Grant, This is Amy Mulligan. She will
be Johanna and Martha's teacher." Said Sister Angelica.
Amy shook Clara and Jason's hand. "I am pleased to meet you both.
and these two pretty girls must be Johanna and Martha? Hi I am
Mrs. Mulligan. I will be your teacher." Said Amy more as a
statement than question as she turned her attention to the two older girls.
"Hello Mrs. Mulligan. I'm Martha. It is nice to meet you."
Martha said as she curtsied to the woman.
"Hello Martha. Nice to meet you. And you must be Johanna?"
Amy said as she turned to the girl in the pretty yellow dress.
"My, that is a pretty dress Johanna. You must feel real pretty
in it.?" Amy said as she watched closely for the girl's reaction.
She had been told earlier by the nun that the twin with the
pretty party dress would be Johanna, so she was prepared in advance
and had watched the girl's behavior in church. Amy had been surprised
that up until this point she did not present any ill behavior
"Hello Amy. Nice to meet you." Said Johanna. It was obvious
to Amy that Johanna had deliberately called her by the more
familiar first name.
"Mrs. Mulligan." Amy said firmly.
Johanna sensed the rebuff and decided that this was not the
time to press the issue.
"I'm sorry. Mrs. Mulligan." Johanna replied sullenly.
"Come. Lets get out of the doorway and go to my study." Said
the nun as she turned and started down the hall aisle.
followed by Clara, Jason, Martha and Susie. Amy took Johanna
by the hand and led her down an adjacent hallway that was
obviously access to a series of classrooms.
Amy guided Johanna into one of the classrooms off the main
hallway. On the door was marked "Grade 3, Mrs. Mulligan."
"This is going to be your classroom Johanna. At least for awhile."
Johanna looked at the woman quizzically but said nothing but Amy
anticipated her thoughts
"Sit there Johanna." Amy said pointing to a desk in the front row.
"We need to talk. It is John that I want to talk to and what is said
here will go no further." Amy said seriously.
"Ok Amy but I will tell you this If I am be candid with you I hope
you won't feel that what I say is directed at you personally."
Johanna said as she sat at the desk smoothing her dress under her.
"Fair enough John." Amy replied. She observed with interest the
girlish movement as Johanna sat down.
"I have read your file with interest John. I don't want it to seem
like I am prying but I do have to know what I am dealing with here.
Tell me what you feel and think about being a young girl now.
Be honest with me and don't hold anything back."
"You really want to now Amy? It is absolutely humiliating.
I mean really, I am a 70 years old man who is trapped in this
girl body and have to accept being treated like an 8 year old.
especially by my own daughter who insists that I call her
mother now. Even Martha my ex-wife treats me like a younger
sister rather than her husband. I feel down-right silly. Look
at me, all prettied up and for no reason other than someone else
said I had to. I am really pissed off."
"I take it then that you don't like being young again?"
"Oh I don't mind being young again, just not this young.
I certainly don't like being a duplicate of my wife or
being treated like a child princess."
"Really? Which is worse for you? the idea of looking like
your ex-wife (Amy emphasized the ex)or being a child?"
"Look Amy, what difference does it make? I don't like any
part of this situation."
"And you think your the only man that ever ended up
like you are now and deserve some kind of sympathy?"
"Yes I do! Did you ever hear of any other man who
ended up changed into a little girl? I just doesn't happen".
Amy paused only for a few seconds for effect.
"As a matter of fact John. I do. I am quite familiar
with your situation. Quite familiar."
"And who would that be? Someone in one of the fairytales
you read to your class?" John answered rather caustically.
"No John, Me. I was that man many years ago. Look at these."
Amy said softly as she handed Johanna two photographs.
The young girl took the photos and looked at them. The
first showed a young man of about nineteen sitting behind
the wheel of a new mustang. He looked like he was as pleased
as a peacock. The other showed a young girl standing in front
of a church in her first communion dress and veil. She was
standing beside a young woman and they both seemed very happy.
"I don't understand Johanna said softly." But inwardly she had a
good idea what the answer was going to be.
Amy let Johanna study the pictures for a minute for
effect. When the girl reached out to hand them back Amy
smiled and looked the girl straight in the eyes.
"I can see your question John without you even asking.
Yes dear. That is me in both pictures."
"But how Amy. It is not possible, those pictures are obviously
taken years ago."
"John, let me tell you a story." For the next hour Amy related
her tragic and then wonderful transition.
(Read Amy dear Amy)
********
"So you see John. I understand your predicament but it
does not have to be a battle. Let time take it's course. You
may find that you have a unique and wonderful opportunity
to experience life in a whole new way. It is just a matter of
perspective."
"You did not find it humiliating or embarrassing. The girl asked.
"Of course I did Johanna." Amy deliberately reverting to the girl's
feminine name. "But it did pass, in time I really enjoyed my
new life. Amy's mother or I should say my new mother was my
inspiration. It was several years before she found out the truth.
I carried that burden a long time and it did make things difficult
for me but it was bearable. "
"What happened when she found out?"
"That was the surprising part. She found my diary one day
and handed it to me. I was thirteen at the time. All she said
was that it made no difference. I was her daughter and that was
all that mattered. Mother and I grew even closer after that.
John felt terrible. He was being a hard nose about this change
to a young girl and yet the story he had just heard must have been
even more traumatic than his own. He had at least made the choice
to do the mind swap and a mistake had occurred that left him in the
wrong body. But Amy, she had been a young strapping teenager boy
who had been physically placed in the body of a little girl
against his will by his own father no less. Yet he had made the
effort to overcome the forced gender change and had made a
remarkable recovery and assimilation into the life of the girl
that had died. John felt ashamed at his behavior. The least he
could do was try to adapt.
Amy looked at Johanna with a expression of understanding.
"Johanna, p
