I should have known better than to have that last scotch and soda. The
first six or so had gone down so nicely that it did not seem fair to not
have another. Looking at the clock, it was time to leave the party, I
did have to be at work in the morning and since it was nearing 2am, I

"Thanks for having me over guys," I said to Steve and Laurie, "I had a

I was about one mile into my trip home when I noticed headlights closing
in from behind me. I slowed slightly, hoping that they would pass, but
the car seemed to content to just ride my ass. I got to my driveway and
the car behind me pulled to the curb in from of my house. As I got out,
so did the driver of the other car. I started to get nervous, it was
dark, I was drunk and it was 2am!
The stranger approached me from the shadows, until he reached the
lighted area coming from my yard light. "Man, you scared the shit out of
me, why didn?t you say something?" I asked. It was Steve; Laurie had
made him follow me home to se sure that I got in okay. "Sorry buddy, I
was just watching to make sure you were okay, now I am heading home
too," he said. He shook my hand and went back to his car and drove away.
I headed in to my condo and went straight to my room to get ready for

Even though I was still feeling the effects of the alcohol, I was
anxiously awaiting this time of night. I could finally be by myself and
relax. I took a leak, brushed my teeth and headed for my closet. I
stripped naked, neatly piling my dirty stuff to bring down to the

reflection one last time, and headed back down the stairs towards an
uncertain future.
