Twins Part 2 - Eighth Grade

Eighth grade was fun, but next year we'd be going to the high school.
Like, most of us were looking forward to it but were apprehensive about
it at the same time. Like, we'd been in middle school for three years
and knew the teachers and they knew us. But next year we'd be off to a
different school, and teachers we didn't know, and a lot of the kids
would be bigger than we were. Well actually, a number of the other boys
in my class are taller than I am right now. In the last year some of
them have grown four or even six inches. I think I've added maybe an
inch in height the past year as I'm now up to 5' 3" or so, so I'm not a
real "shrimp" or anything but I can't wait to catch up with the other
boys. Actually, the worst thing about it is that even a couple of the
girls are taller than me now and that does bother me. But what the fuck,
I can't do anything about it.
The school has a requirement that every student has to take one music
elective in the seventh and eighth grades. Some of the kids play musical
instruments - I tried the trumpet last year but hated it. Some of the
kids went out for the marching band - but that looked like a lot of work
so I passed on that. Some of the kids went out for the jazz dancing
group - but that seemed too "gay" for me.
So I settled in on the Mixed Chorus. Allison was in Mixed Chorus and
that probably had a little to do with me joining it as well. The only
thing about the chorus was that they grouped us by the pitch of our
voices. You know, starting at Soprano for the highest pitched voices and
going down through the Mezzo Soprano, Contralto, Tenor, Countertenor,
Bass and Baritone - with most of the girls being in the first three and
the boys in the last four. Gosh, I'd hate to think what a girl Baritone
would look like - a gorilla in a skirt? Just kidding. So anyway, when
the director evaluated us and placed us in groups, guess where he had me
- in the Contraltos. Man, that was embarrassing to be the only boy
Contralto but at least Allison was also a Contralto so we'd usually
stand next to each other during chorus.
By the spring of my eighth grade year, I was thinking that any time this
gyneco-something wants to go away it has my permission. It sure hasn't
gotten any better, and now in addition to the swollen aureola-whatevers,
there's now a swollen area underneath the aureola-whatevers. Like, I've
now got these two cone-like mounds that stick out almost two inches from
my chest. Now my chest still doesn't look as bad as the chests of a few
of the other boys that have the same problem - but those boys are the
ones that are pretty chubby, or in most cases downright fat, so their
mounds kind of get "lost" in all the other rolls of fat that they're
carrying around. Like, there's this one kid who has these mounds that
are bigger than most girl's breasts - but he weighs way over two hundred
pounds and has this huge belly that bulges out over his waistband and
you can see a good six or seven inches of it hanging out from under the
bottom of his shirt.
And man, when he walks along you can see it swinging from side to side
and bouncing up and down a little. If I looked like that I'd go on a
major diet right away. But I don't have any weight problem and at 115
pounds have a pretty slim figure - well, slim except for the cone-like
thingies on my chest. But as long as I don't wear any tight clothing
they're really not too noticeable.
When I came down to breakfast this morning, I was wearing just a pair of
briefs and an old gray T-shirt that was a little small for me (I had
worn pajamas to bed but had a wet dream sometime during the night and
had changed into dry underwear before coming down into the kitchen). I
noticed Mom staring at me and realized that the cone-like thingies on my
chest were tenting out the front of my T-shirt and their size and shape
were clearly visible. A bit embarrassed, I bent forward a little and
hunched my shoulders so that my chest was less prominent, ate a quick
breakfast and went up to my room to put on some looser clothes for the
rest of the day. Mom didn't say anything and I certainly wasn't going to
bring the subject up.
The start of our Freshman year was only a couple of weeks away and
Allison and I were hanging out in the teen section of our local library.
I had mentioned to her that Mom had told me to get my hair cut before
the beginning of school and I wasn't all that opposed to her request
this time as I hadn't had it cut since last summer at Cindy's and it now
hangs down partway over my eyes in the front and I have to keep brushing
it back and the bangs are now down to an inch or so below the top of my
shoulders.
Allison got this distressed look on her face and said, "Alex, are you
sure you want to get it cut? I mean, like, it looks so nice the way it
is now," and she paused for a moment and then continued, "You could just
get it trimmed a little or styled better, or something like that. I
mean, I could even do it for you if you'd like me to," and she blushed a
little.
So that's how I ended up over at Allison's house several days later,
with my head over the kitchen sink while she washed my hair and put some
stuff on it, and then sitting at the kitchen table where she trimmed it
a little and tried arranging it different ways. Finally she said, "Well,
that's the best I can do - but I think that it does look better. See
what you think", and she handed me a mirror. Oh Man! If I thought that
it looked "girlie" a year ago it was way more girlie now. Allison had
parted it on the right and it swept across my forehead and down over my
left eye just a little. And my bangs had a slight curl at the bottom
where they rested gently on my shoulders. I was going to tell Allison
what I thought of her efforts when I noticed the apprehensive and
hopeful look on her face and I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I
just said, "Uh, yeah, like, it's okay. I mean it's better than that.
It's good. Um, and I like it", and smiled at her.
She got this happy look on her face and gave me this really big smile
back and I was glad that I hadn't hurt her feelings. As I was walking
home I could feel my bangs swishing against my shoulders and I thought,
"Oh well, if it makes Allison happy .........."
The high school requires a physical examination of all incoming Freshmen
but mine today didn't go too well. It started off okay but when the
doctor asked me to take off my shirt and he saw my cone-thingies. He
checked the notes he had made during the previous exam and then felt and
rubbed them a little. Man did it feel weird to have someone else
touching me there. And finally he went out into the waiting room and
asked my Mom to come in.
"I'm concerned about the development of Alex's chest", he started out,
continuing, "While it's not unusual for teenage boys to have some degree
of breast enlargement, the medical term is called gynocomastia, his
seems to be more significant than is usual and the enlargement seems to
have increased in the past year instead of decreasing as I would have
expected. Now, it could be quite normal but just to be on the safe side
I'm going to give you a referral so Alex can be examined by an
endocrinologist," and with that he wrote something on a pad of paper,
tore off the top sheet and handed it to Mom who looked about as eager to
take it as if it had been a warm, steaming turd.
As we were walking to our car in the parking lot, Mom muttered something
under her breath like, "Don't trust the damn doctors," and wadded up the
piece of paper and dropped it on the ground.
