Katie awoke early the next morning, along with the other girls. Being a
girl meant she had to get up earlier, as there was a lot more to do to
get ready for the day. No longer would a quick comb through his hair
and putting on a clean set of clothes be enough. Now she had to have a
thorough shower in the morning, she needed to spend extra time to fix
her hair just right, and she had to have a keen eye on her complexion as
well. Yesterday some lip gloss was enough, today Hannah had insisted on

found out that Katie had never worn eye liner or mascara, she insisted

Then there were the clothes, Katie didn't hate them, much to her own
surprise, but she did find them to be more difficult than she was used
to. She liked how the panties felt, the silky smoothness as they
caressed her tightly, and they made her feel nice as well, she could
never have said that about her old boy underwear. The bra was a
necessity, as her breasts, although not large, needed the support
offered by the bra, and her bras matched her panties, in their color,

Katie also got the hang of the skirt, as she watched the other girls

And in the moment of having that thought, Kyle's world came crashing
down around him. Here he was, in a room full of girls, dressed like one
of them, and enjoying it. He was horrified. Terrified even. How was
it, that in only a few days, he had gone from a normal boy to such a
girly girl? He felt, naked in the skirt. He felt shameful in the
panties. He felt like everyone was going to find out he wasn't really a
girl, and he would be absolutely humiliated.
"Katie?" Hannah said, sensing the fear her friend was suddenly feeling
"Are, you alright?" Kyle had sat on the bed, his eyes fixed on his own
stunning reflection, his dainty hand raised to his glossy lips.
"N-n-no..." he whispered. Hannah and Susan were there, on either side of
him, offering their kindness and care for him. They hardly knew him, he
thought, even as a boy, neither of them had given him much thought.
Yet, here they were, offering their support and care for a girl, they
had just met yesterday. No one knew of his secret, and what was
happening to him, but the Professors and Hermione. He needed to talk to
someone, he needed to figure out what was happening to him, and how he
was thinking that he was a girl, when he knew that he was really a boy.
He needed to talk to Hermione.
"Come on, Katie," Susan offered. "Let's get some juice in you, and see
if you feel better." The two girls helped him back to his petite feet
and the three girls went to the Great Hall for Breakfast.
Upon arrival, Kyle sat down between Hannah and Susan, and they offered
him some biscuits and juice, which he took, and thanked them for. The
girls seemed happy to have a conversation while he sat, thinking about
how everyone might be eyeing at him, and looking for Hermione. He found
her on the Gryffindor bench across from Harry and that Ginger kid and he
could tell she was mad at Harry for something.
"Drop it!" the Ginger said, and Hermione appeared to want to say
something, then she thought better of it, and just sat in frustration
with the two of them. It made Kyle feel good to know that Hermione was
mad at the two of them, and he smiled as he chewed on his biscuits.
"Hermione!" he called to her as he tried to catch her before she left
the Great Hall for morning class. He waved his feminine arm as he
pranced over toward her as fast as he could in the ridiculous outfit.
She stopped when she saw him, her smile made his heart race.
"Oh, hi Katie!" she said as she stopped, allowing Harry and the Ginger
kid to go on ahead, and she looked him over, almost judging him, as the
other students filed out passed them.
"Hermione, I need to talk to someone..." he almost cried as he whispered
to her, in an effort to keep anyone else from over hearing them.
"Oh, Katie..." she said conflicted. "I wish I could right now, but I've
got to get to History of Magic. If I'm late I may miss something
important... you know how Professor Binns is." She offered him a sweet
smile as her eyebrows gave showed him her concern. "I'll catch up with
you later, alright? After Dinner?" She gave him a friendly kiss on his
cheek, and left, before he could say anything else. And he felt more
alone than ever.
Hermione was nowhere to be seen that night at dinner, and over the next
few days, Kyle found it almost impossible to get a few seconds alone
with her. She was always running off before meals had ended, and
immediately after lessons. Hannah, and Susan, were also trying to
include Kyle in almost everything they did, which limited his free time,
and prevented him from going to the Library in search of Hermione.
Their lessons were becoming more difficult and demanding more of their
free time with Homework and such, especially Professor Moody's Defense
Against the Dark Arts. Professor Moody informed the class that he would
be using the Imperius curse on all of them, in turns, to show them how
powerful this spell was, and to determine who, if anyone, could resist
its effects
"But - but you said it's illegal, Professor," said Hermione uncertainly
as Professor Moody cleared away the desks with a stroke of his wand,
leaving a clear area to practice in the middle of the room. "You said -
to use it against another human was -"
"Dumbledore wants you taught what it feels like," growled Professor
Moody, his magical eye swiveling onto Hermione and fixing her with an
eerie, unblinking stare. "If you'd rather learn the hard way - when
someone's putting it on you so they can control you completely - fine by
me. You're excused. Off you go."
He pointed a twisted finger at the door to the classroom, and Hermione's
face flushed as she muttered something about not meaning that she wanted
to leave. Kyle knew that Hermione would do almost anything rather than
miss out on such an important lesson.
Professor Moody began to call the students up, one by one, and used the
Imperius Curse on them. Kyle watched in amazement as Dean Thomas hopped
around the room three times, singing the 'God Save the Queen'. Hannah
Abbot imitated a squirrel, that Longbottom kid performed a gymnastic act
that would have fetched a Gold Medal at the Olympic Games, and was
clearly beyond his normal capabilities. No one seemed to be able to
fight off the curse put on them by Professor Moody, and after he had
lifted the curse, everyone returned to normal, and they had no idea of
what they had just done.
"Potter," Professor Moody growled, "you next." Harry moved into the
middle of the classroom, apprehensively, Kyle could see the nervousness
in his green eyes. Professor Moody raised his wand, aimed at Harry and
growled, "Imperio!"
Harry stood still, in the middle of the room for a moment, as everyone
watched. He looked over at a desk nearby and he bent his knees as if he
was going to jump, but then he stood back up. Again he made like he was
going to jump, and then didn't. The third time seemed to be the charm
as he made to jump again and instead, he awkwardly lunged forward,
smashing his face into the desktop as his legs shot out from under him
and smacked into the stone floor. Everyone gasped as Professor Moody
stepped forward, a grin on his ruined face.
"Now, that's more like it!" growled Professor Moody. "Look at that, you
lot...Potter fought! He fought it, and he damn near beat it! We'll try
that again, Potter, and the rest of you, pay attention - watch his eyes,
that's where you see it - very good, Potter, very good indeed! They'll
have trouble controlling you!"
The grizzled Professor insisted on putting that Potter kid through the
curse 4 more times, until Potter was able to throw off the curse
entirely. It seemed the Professor was taking a lot of joy from the fact
that Potter seemed able to resist the spell. When it was the ginger's
turn, Kyle watched intently as he skipped around the room like a 4 year
old girl, Kyle also noticed Professor Moody's magical eye staring
through him, and he felt a chill go down his spine. Kyle was sure he
was next, but in the end, The Professor didn't have time enough to get
to all the students, and he was one of the lucky ones who were told they
would get their turn next time. Their homework was reading up on
resisting the Imperius curse, and before Kyle even had a change to ask
Hermione to go to the Library with him later to work on it, she had
vanished, again.
It was the end of the week before Kyle even had an opportunity to speak
to Hermione again. He was headed into Dinner with Hannah, Susan, Megan
and Leanne, when they noticed a large sign that had been affixed to the
wall in front of the Great Hall.
TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT,
THE DELEGATIONS FROM BEAUXBATONS AND DURMSTRANG WILL BE ARRIVING AT 6
O'CLOCK ON FRIDAY THE 30TH OF OCTOBER. LESSONS WILL END HALF AN HOUR
EARLY- STUDENTS WILL RETURN THEIR BAGS AND BOOKS TO THEIR DORMITORIES
AND ASSEMBLE IN FRONT OF THE CASTLE TO GREET OUR GUESTS BEFORE THE
WELCOMING FEAST.
As they were reading, other students were crowding around behind them
and as Kyle and the other girls were trying to leave, Kyle spotted
Hermione and her two friends.
"Brilliant!" said Harry Potter. "It's Potions last thing on Friday!
Snape won't have time to poison us all!" a smile stretching across his
face.
"Only a week away!" said fellow Hufflepuff Ernie Macmillan, who had been
following Kyle and the girls into Dinner, his eyes gleaming. "I wonder
if Cedric knows? Think I'll go and tell him...."
"Cedric?" Hermione's Ginger friend said blankly as Ernie hurried off.
"Diggory," said Kyle proudly. "He's our Seeker," Kyle explained, as
Hermione smiled a meek hello.
"That idiot, Hogwarts champion?" the Ginger said, quite rudely.
"He's not an idiot. You just don't like him because he beat Gryffindor
at Quidditch," said Hermione. "I've heard he's a really good student -
and he's a prefect." She spoke with a nod and smile to Kyle as though
this settled the matter.
"You only like him because he's handsome," said that stupid red-headed
prat scathingly.
"Excuse me, I don't like people just because they're handsome!" said
Hermione resentfully.
The ginger gave a loud false cough, which sounded oddly like "Lockhart!"
"I don't know what your problem is," Kyle said with a steely menace as
he jabbed the ginger kid in the chest with his finger "But you're either
going to start showing her more respect, or I'm going to drag you out to
the pitch and use you for Bludger practice." The Ginger looked like he
was about to soil his pants "Do you understand?" Kyle asked, his eyes
burning with intensity.
"Ye-yes," he answered, before he turned to his friend Potter and the two
of them scarpered to Dinner. Hermione fixed Kyle with one of her
classic looks of feigned disapproval.
"You didn't have to do that," she said with an amused smile.
"No, I recon not," Kyle said as he adjusted his skirt. "But someone
did. That prat is so disrespectful to you, why are you even friends
with him?"
"He's not always like that, he was just kidding," Hermione said making
excuses for him.
"Every time, I see him, he is," Kyle said, as he crossed his arms across
his breasts uncomfortably.
"Katie...." Hermione started, as Kyle quickly looked around and grabbed
Hermione by the arm, leading her off to the Entrance Courtyard, where
they were alone.
"Hermione, there's something wrong with me!" Kyle said, finally able to
release his frustrations.
"I know, Katie," Hermione said, her eyes glistening with tears at the
reminder of what she had done to her friend. "I've been going to the
Library every night to try to find a way to fix you."
"No, you're not understanding..." Kyle said.
"What?" Hermione asked, slightly hurt and offended at the mere idea that
she didn't understand his problem.
"It's not that... well, I mean it's sort of that..." He shook his head, and
then he had to push his long hair back out of his eyes "It's my mind, I
think." His eyes were now filling with tears as Hermione took him by the
shoulders.
"What? What's wrong with your mind?" she asked very concerned.
"I don't know, Hermione," he said attempting to explain. "I mean, there
were a few days where I was feeling like a girl. And without wanting
to... I was acting and thinking like a girl..."
"Katie." Her eyebrows were furled in concern. "I don't understand.
Your body was transfigured into a girl's, but your mind should be
unaffected. What exactly do you mean?"
"Um," he searched for specifics, "I was thinking of myself as a girl, as
one of the girls, you know? I was doing girly things, without meaning
too. I..." He recalled the trill he felt when he saw Cedric smile at
him, and chose not to share that with Hermione out of sheer
embarrassment "I-I FELT like a girl!" he said, tears flowing from his
beautiful sky blue eyes.
"Oh, Kyle!" Hermione said, hugging her friend. "I'm so sorry!"
"Hermione..." he tried to compose himself. "I've told you, this is not
your fault."
"I'm still going to find a way to fix you, okay? I'm going to find out
what happened and I'm going to fix you," she said as he hugged her
tighter.
Over the next week, Kyle spent much of his time with Hannah, Susan,
Megan and Leanne. The girls went almost everywhere together. Hannah,
and Susan didn't do everything with Megan and Leanne, but those two were
almost inseparable, and now Kyle was their third. Occasionally Ernie,
and Justin would join them in whatever they were doing, studying,
chatting, or even over meals. However, Kyle found it impossible to
separate himself from them and spend any time with Hermione at the
Library.
The topic of conversation on everyone's lips over that week was the
Triwizard Tournament. Everyone was discussing who would be the Hogwarts
Champion, what would this Tournament involve, and how these other two
schools were different from themselves. Since Katie was from another
wizarding school, everyone seemed to think she was an expert on this
subject, and Kyle found himself having to tell people repeatedly that
other wizarding schools really aren't that different than this one.
The staff at the school seemed to be less excited than the Students yet
more on edge. Professor McGonagall was chastising students who were
performing spells badly, Professor Snape made Zacharias Smith drink a
potion Kyle was sure was poison, because Zacharias was too busy talking
about the Triwizard Tournament with Wayne Hopkins and he wasn't paying
attention to his potion as he added Hemlock instead of Goose Grass.
Unfortunately, Zacharias was taken to the Hospital wing, and he
survived. Even Filch, the caretaker was on edge, as he cleaned the
school top to bottom, and terrorized any student who so much as tracked
dirt into the castle.
Classes ended early on Friday the 30th as the students rushed to their
common rooms to put on nice clean robes, and then back to the Entrance
hall where their Heads of House were putting them into neat lines.
Professor Sprout was straightening out her students, making sure
everyone was presentable as she walked up and down the line.
"Don't you look lovely today Miss Cooper," Professor Sprout said with a
smile as she addressed Kyle.
"Thank you, Professor," Kyle responded as he felt his cheeks grow warm
in embarrassment. Wearing girl's clothes was still odd for him, and
being complimented for it made him feel uncomfortable.
They stood, out in front of the Castle, each House in its own formation,
in 7 rows, the 1st years in the front, and Kyle stood in the 4th row
next to Susan and Justin. The sun had set, its orange glow still rising
from the horizon behind them as they looked out across the cold grey
lake, the moon shivering across its surface. The Forbidden Forest
rising from the banks of the lake and climbed the far hills stood
silently as the winds rustled the treetops. Everyone was murmuring in
excitement, wondering where and how the other Schools were going to
arrive. And then Dumbledore called out from the back row where he stood
with the other teachers
"Aha! Unless I am very much mistaken, the delegation from Beauxbatons
approaches!" The students looked around eagerly, in almost every
direction before someone shouted, "There! Over the forest!"
A large box shaped thing was hurtling across the dark sky toward the
Castle, growing larger as it drew closer.
"It's a dragon!" shrieked one of the first years, losing her head
completely.
"Don't be stupid...it's a flying house!" said Dennis Creevey from the
Gryffindor side.
He was closer as the immense shape cleared the treetops of the Forest
and it dipped into the lights from the Castle windows. An enormous
powder blue, horse -drawn carriage, the size of a large house, soared
toward them, pulled through the air by a dozen winged horses, all
palominos, and each the size of an elephant.
The carriage landed with a mighty crash that shook the ground they stood
on as the hooves from the monstrous golden horses, with their fiery red
eyes, thundered across the grounds, and the carriage followed on its
vast wheels. The Carriage came to a stop before the students, its door
displayed a coat of arms with two crossed, golden wands, each shooting
off three stars. The door burst open as a boy, clad in the same powder
blue hopped down and unfolded a set of golden steps, before a woman,
larger even than their Groundskeeper Hagrid, disembarked. She was
dressed from head to foot in black satin, and many magnificent opals
gleamed at her throat and on her thick fingers.
Professor Dumbledore began to clap, the students and faculty following
his lead as the woman smiled and walked forward to Dumbledore. She
extended a glittering hand and Dumbledore barely had to bend to kiss it,
even though he was well over 6 foot tall himself.
"My dear Madame Maxime," Professor Dumbledore said. "Welcome to
Hogwarts."
"Dumbly-dort," said Madame Maxime in a deep voice. "I 'ope I find you
well?"
"In excellent form, I thank you," said Professor Dumbledore.
"My pupils," said Madame Maxime, waving one of her massive hands
casually behind her toward the dozen or so boys and girls, all who
looked to be in their 7th year, emerged from the carriage and lined up
behind her. Some of them appeared to be shivering, which wasn't too
surprising as they all were wearing robes which looked to be made of
silk, and not a one of them was wearing a cloak in the cold October
evening, as they looked up at the Castle in awe.
"As Karkaroff arrived yet?" Madame Maxime asked.
"He should be here any moment," answered Professor Dumbledore, with a
kind smile. "Would you like to wait here and greet him or would you
prefer to step inside and warm up a trifle?"
"Warm up, I think," said Madame Maxime. "But ze 'orses -"
"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher will be delighted to take care of
them," said Professor Dumbledore, "the moment he has returned from
dealing with a slight situation that has arisen with some of his other -
er - charges."
"My steeds require - er - forceful 'andling," said Madame Maxime,
looking as though she doubted whether any Care of Magical Creatures
teacher at Hogwarts could be up to the job. "Zey are very strong...."
"I assure you that Hagrid will be well up to the job," said Professor
Dumbledore, with a calming smile.
"Very well," said Madame Maxime, bowing slightly. "Will you please
inform zis 'Agrid zat ze 'orses drink only single-malt whiskey?"
"It will be attended to," said Professor Dumbledore, also bowing.
"Come," said Madame Maxime haughtily to her students, and the Hogwarts
crowd parted to allow her and her students to pass up the stone steps.
A murmur grew among the students as they waited, in the cold, for
Durmstrang to arrive. Many of the students were scanning the skies,
expecting to spot a similar carriage from the other school. The whispers
of the students died down as anticipation grew and soon a rumble was
felt through the ground as an eerie muffled sucking sound carried off
across the Lake.
"Look!" someone cried out. "Look at the lake!"
The smooth black surface of the lake was broken by a bubbling mass in
the middle, the ripples spreading out across the Lake, washing across
the muddy banks. Then the bubbling became a whirlpool as if the lake
was being drained like a washtub, but instead a long black mast crept up
out of the center of the whirlpool, followed by rigging, and sails, and
then, a magnificent ship rose from the waters, glistening in the
moonlight as if someone had raised a sunken pirate ship. It turned
majestically and glided across the water to the bank of the Lake where a
long plank was lowered to the shore.
People were filing off the ship, shadows in the dark as they were back
lit by the lights from the ship and the moon, but all of them seemed
large and apelike. Yet as they drew closer to the front of the Castle
it could be seen that their bulk was attributed to their heavy cloaks of
shaggy, matted brown fur. Yet the man who was leading them was clad in
shining sleek furs of silver, like his hair.
"Dumbledore!" he called heartily as he walked up the slope. "How are
you, my dear fellow, how are you?"
"Blooming, thank you, Professor Karkaroff," Professor Dumbledore
replied. Professor Karkaroff had a resonant, smug voice; when he
stepped into the light of the castle they saw that he was tall and thin
like Professor Dumbledore, but his white hair was short, and his goatee
(finishing in a small curl) did not entirely hide his rather weak chin.
When he reached Professor Dumbledore, he shook hands with both of his
own.
"Dear old Hogwarts," Professor Karkaroff said, looking up at the castle
and smiling; his teeth were rather yellow, and his smile did not extend
to his eyes, which remained cold and shrewd. "How good it is to be
here, how good....Viktor, come along, into the warmth...you don't mind,
Dumbledore? Viktor has a slight head cold..."
Professor Karkaroff called one of his students forward, and as the boy
passed Kyle, the boy paused a moment, his prominent curved nose and
thick black eyebrows turning to face Kyle, and a hungry smile crossed
his lips as Professor Karkaroff led him into the Castle. Justin Flinch-
Fletchly whispered in Kyle's ear, "Did, Viktor Krum just smile at you?"
