Leonard Huffnagle was having a lot of trouble looking for dirt on Tim Murphy from San Antonio Roosevelt High School. The only tangible thing he was able to confirm was that Tim had gifted the Trojan iPad, given by Coach Andrew Thomas of IMG Academy, to his little sister, Carmen.

IMG was known for recruiting the best high school football players from across the country and giving them highly specialized coaching to better prepare them for college football. Kids graduating from IMG often became starters on their chosen college team much sooner than players coming from normal high school-level coaching. The coaches at IMG featured several former NFL players, most just recently retired from their playing, so the potential players knew of their playing history. In addition to those coaches, there were several high-profile former college coaches who taught these elite players how to become even better.

Leonard was a computer expert who, on paper, worked for IMG Academy to keep all their computers running, but his real function was as a unique tool for recruiters trying to find a way to get leverage with the best players. He used his computer talents to hack into the players’ computers to see what they did not want everyone to see. He’d even hack into other computers in the home to gain an understanding into what was keeping the player from agreeing to play for IMG. He had been brought to IMG by his friend, the current football coach and recruiter at IMG, Andrew Thomas.

Coach Thomas had a basic idea of what the strange and socially-awkward Huffnagle could do with computers, but he knew for sure the guy was great at getting the information everyone else was seeking. Coach Thomas had his coaching life plan set. He expected a couple of years with IMG Academy, eventually moving onto a college coaching staff somewhere, then a coordinator position, and finally a jump to head coaching, and he had already decided to bring Leonard Huffnagle along as a secret weapon at each stop. Leonard loved the idea of traveling up the football food chain by attaching himself to Coach Thomas.

For the first time since the two had met, though, Leonard was having trouble finding anything out about his quarry – Tim Murphy. As far as he could tell, he did not have any social media accounts ... anywhere! The only thing he found was to answer a threat from Rodney Valentine, a player on another high school football team.

The paperwork on Rodney described a one-act running back. He could run fast and hard but had absolutely pedestrian skills at a change of speed or even avoidance. He ran straight up and down and got most of his yards later in the game when the opposing teams were getting worn down by his relentless running style. Valentine had not let anyone know that he was starting to having trouble in his right knee. He got some pain medicines from a booster and was leaning on those when he plays – one Vicodin, featuring five milligrams of Hydrocodone and three hundred milligrams of acetaminophen, in the morning with his breakfast and another before practice. Another after practice and two pills before a game left him feeling no pain whatsoever, and he had absolutely no trouble running over people through an entire game. He subsequently had his greatest game, statistically, as the starting running back for the Converse Judson Rockets. It was everything he had ever wanted. The next morning, however, Rodney needed two more tablets and an entire day of resting. Then he would start again Monday morning.

Leonard knew all of this because the boy was stupid enough to write a journal on his computer and spill out all of his secrets on his screen. If Rodney stopped with the pain medications, there were plenty of other skeletons in his closet. Getting that information about Rodney was simple and done in less than an hour after Rodney became a possible recruit for IMG Academy. The lure of being the star running back for the Judson Rockets was too tempting. He had decided to stay home and stick with the coaches who coddled him rather than go with coaches who would fix his flaws and turn him into a player who could live up to others’ expectations.

He had been working on gathering intelligence on Tim Murphy for more than two weeks and still had not found anything. Leonard was becoming worried that Coach Thomas had not come to ask about his progress. In the past, whenever Coach Thomas gave Leonard a name of a recruit to look into, he would return within a week for a progress report. He also worried about what Coach Thomas would do if he were to say he could not find anything about Tim Murphy.

Leonard simply could not get into Tim’s computer. He felt, with the amount of security this high school kid had on his system, he must be hiding something really disgusting. He really needed to find out. He also now could not get access to the iPad he built that Tim had gifted to his little sister. It was just one day suddenly closed off, and he just could not get into it again.

“Who the hell would be trying to get into my system? And how did they know about Carmen’s iPad?” Tim thought to himself as he reviewed the attempted break-ins to his family’s computer network. “Was it the cops tracking him from when he went looking for info about the students arrested partying? Was it someone else who he had hacked trying for retribution? Or maybe it was someone looking for dirt on the new superstar in high school football.” The possibilities were coming at Tim’s mind like waves on a beach. No matter how hard he would work to not think about the intrusions, they obviously worried him.

Tim felt the last thought was probably the most correct. When he found the attempted hacks into the network via his sister’s new iPad, he was relieved it wasn’t someone coming from law enforcement. He began subtly backtracing the attempted hacks, one by one, ferreting out possible locations. The first trace was determined to come from Florida. He dug a little more -- narrowed it down to a server in Bradenton, Florida. It was not a hidden attack; this hacker was doing it from there and not using a previously-hacked system. “Maybe this guy doesn’t think anyone can figure out who he is so never bothered to hide his trail. That means he is stupid and barely understands what he is doing, or he is just cocky and doesn’t think anyone could stop him.” Tim figured using ghost IP addresses and bouncing from different systems from everywhere was how he would have done it.

Just before he could get the exact location, the line was cut. He must have found out Tim was following his hack. A few minutes passed, and Tim was able to get to within one mile of the hacker’s address. A quick search on Google Earth and Tim had a satellite view of the one-mile area. It was easy to see the main building labeled “IMG Academy” in the one-mile radius.

“That must have been why Carmen’s iPad was used to gain entrance into the system. I just don’t understand why they would do that.” Tim was having a hard time figuring it out, so he decided to investigate from a different angle. He started by breaking into Carmen’s iPad. It was easy since Tim showed her how to set it up, and he was the administrator on it and could use his own password to get into the iPad.

He went right past everything his sister was using on the iPad and found the last remnants of the folder Coach Thomas made sure to mention. It had the video about nightlife at IMG Academy. He analyzed the video and found the virus embedded within the video. If he had opened the file without the proper protections he had set in place now, the virus would have copied everything on all immediately-available hard drives and send them to the virus creator. The virus was simple but effective. Whoever had created it for IMG must have been the one trying to gain entry into his system. A little bit more investigation was needed.

The time Leonard had been dreading had come. Coach Thomas, while he casually ate an apple, was sitting in front of him, and had just asked for an update on Tim Murphy. Leonard had hashed it out it for hours with himself and had decided to come clean. Maybe by throwing himself onto his sword, Coach Thomas would not fire him.

“Sorry, Andrew, um I mean Coach Thomas. I have not been able to get anything on the Murphy kid yet.” Leonard actually closed his eyes as he looked down in disappointment.

“What do you mean? These kids nowadays are all twittering and friendbooking or myspacing each and everything they do and every thought in their vapid heads!”

“Yes, Coach, I know that, but Tim Murphy, as far as I can tell, does not have any social media accounts anywhere. The only time I found him saying anything online was to answer a bully player from another team who tried to antagonize him.”

“Which kid?”

“Rodney Valentine. He is a running back from Converse Judson. Its a suburb of San Antonio and just a few miles from Murphy.”

“Oh yeah, the pill-popping asshole with the Oedipal complex who can’t change directions when running.”

Leonard nodded yes with a slight smirk.

“Well, Leonard, I guess he won’t be an easy nut to crack so, I guess, keep working on it and let me know if you get a breakthrough.” Coach Thomas got up out of the chair, taking another bite into the apple as he left Leonard’s office.

Leonard almost broke down in tears. He wasn’t fired, but he had let down his friend. After a few minutes of chastising himself, Leonard Huffnagle decided to devote himself to finding out what dirt he could find on this kid, Tim Murphy. Now he knew he needed to ratchet up the pressure and find a way to break into the system.

“Time to use the expense accounts and get some new equipment.” Leonard was wringing his hands like a stereotypical baddie on television.

“Great game, men. Great game. Incredible effort and we showed valiant effort in all three phases of the game. We are all proud of you, Rough Riders!” Coach Van Cleave was addressing the junior varsity team in the locker room after the Thursday evening game against the Stevens Falcons. Stevens proved to be the weakest team the Rough Riders had faced yet. Roosevelt won the game 70 – 3.

Tim Murphy did not start in his first junior varsity game. On their first possession, the Falcons moved the ball down the field, eventually ending with a thirty-four-yard field goal, putting themselves on top 3 – 0. Coach Van Cleave then decided to manufacture some pressure on their quarterback and sent Tim in, right after the Roosevelt offense stalled after two first downs.

Tim Murphy made his presence known to everyone immediately. On the first play of the Falcons’ second possession, Tim and the left defensive tackle ran a stunt, trying to confuse the blockers on the other side of the ball. Instead of immediately moving up-field after the quarterback, Tim ran to his left to take over the position of the left-side defensive tackle and rush the quarterback from right in front of him rather than trying to get him from his blindside.

The defensive tackle ran his part of the stunt perfectly. His move forced the left-side offensive guard to his left to try to block the defensive tackle, but the defensive tackle had run by the guard and was now engaging with the left offensive tackle, trying to turn up the field to attack the ball handler. So now the defensive tackle had two people blocking him and no one in the spot where the guard should have stayed, and Tim could rush full-speed toward the quarterback.

The quarterback had his back turned to the play as he faked a hand-off to the running back to get himself ready for a pass. He realized there was something wrong when he saw the look on the face of his running back as he faked the ball to him. The quarterback turned around just in time for him to see the running back try to block Tim but just get run over. Tim now had free reign to sack the quarterback. The quarterback could not even raise his arm to get rid of the ball and avoid a sack. The collision was loud and caused a symphony of “oohs” from the crowd in the stands – and quite a few from his teammates on his sideline. From somewhere deep inside the Roosevelt side of the stands, Tim could hear “YEAAAAAAAH BOYEEEEEE!”

The Falcons seemed to lose their will to fight and just started getting run over by Roosevelt. At halftime, the score was 56 – 3. Initiating the second half of the game, the Falcons looked like they thought they might have a chance to get back into the game. Apparently, someone told them of a possibility that Tim might not play the second half. Of course, it was not true and, the moment he stepped on the field to join his new defensive teammates, the little breeze of hope quickly died, and they lost all desire to win and were just trying to not get hurt.

One surprising moment happened in the fourth quarter when Coach Van Cleave called Tim up to him. Tim had been seated on the bench drinking some water and discussing their play with his teammates. Roosevelt was on offense with third down right at midfield. They needed to make ten yards to continue the drive or just go ahead and kick a field goal, but Coach Van Cleave had an idea he wanted to test.

“Murphy, how are you feeling?” The coach’s strong Texas drawl seemed to intensify during a football game.

“Good, Coach.”

“Good! Whadda ya think about you catchin’ a touchdown?”

Tim was shocked at first since he’d never thought he could get one unless he created it himself via interception or fumble recovery. He’d done both already in each game he had played. “Sure thing, Coach, but I dunno the plays. What do I have to do?”

“Okay, this is what you gonna do...” Coach Van Cleave then called a timeout and had the quarterback come to the sidelines for a meeting.

Tim, along with the JV quarterback, jogged into the offensive huddle. The starting tight end sped back to the sidelines to announce, “Okay, fellas. Coach had himself an idea.”

Coach Van Cleave knew Tim did not know the plays yet, so he told him precisely what to do, and the others on the field would do what they needed to do.

Tim lined up on the left-hand side, right next to Hamburger’s brother Big G on the line of scrimmage. “Remember, just one hand down on offense,” Big G advised with a slap on Tim’s shoulder.

Tim could actually hear the defensive end in front of him moan like he didn’t want to even play anymore. The running back lined up right behind Tim and, on the signal from the quarterback, he was in motion. Tim could feel his heart beating through his chest. It was the same feeling he had when he lined up for the first time against Alamo Heights.

“Hike!”

Everyone took off on their assigned routes. Tim could almost feel the happiness from the defensive end when all he did was a quick swim move to get past him. Tim turned on the jets and ran straight up the field.

He saw the safety initially looking in the backfield at the quarterback watching what he was going to do. He was stunned when Tim made it up to him so quickly. Tim kept running and carved up yards quickly. He may have run a bit too fast, but the quarterback was good. The safety, before seeing Tim, had taken a few steps down to the line of scrimmage. He thought the offense was going to run the ball. The Falcons had not been able to stop them from getting as many yards running the ball as they wanted, but the safety turned around and began sprinting to try to get an angle to tackle Tim since he knew he had no chance of stopping the ball. He could only hope to prevent the gain of any more yards.

Tim looked back toward the quarterback and saw the ball arching down from the sky. He stuck his hands out in front of himself, and the ball landed perfectly into his hands. A couple more steps and the referee blew his whistle and shot his hands straight up in the air to signal a touchdown. The crowd exploded into cheers.

The fans in the stands had been lackluster since the third quarter ended since neither side wanted to continue a blowout, but watching Tim Murphy catch his first offensive touchdown was something amazing to see. Most of the people attending were not that blown away by the catch since it was pretty easy, but what amazed them was the speed with which Mayhem made his way down the field.

The quarterback had smartly stopped the fake hand-off since he could see Tim get open almost instantly. He planted his feet and threw the ball to a spot he thought the ball and Tim would arrive at the same time.

The first person who got to him was the safety. “How the fuck did you run that fast?” he asked but was already walking back toward his sideline and was probably not expecting an answer. When Tim saw that, he just let the boy go back to his teammates dejected about not being able to stop yet another touchdown.

Back in the locker room, Tim fielded congratulations from his teammates, including a few of the freshman team who came back to the locker room. “Dude, you looked like you were shot out of a cannon! I have never seen anyone get that open so fast. I mean, the d-end looked like he quit and the linebacker behind him just went after the screwed-up fake and missed you going by him. I wonder if he felt the air go by when you did.” Johnnie Boynes and Jeff Green also offered to treat the hero to a couple of tacos if Tim had the time.

“Did you guys see my mom or dad in the stands?”

“Yeah, they were both there. I think your little sister may have screamed herself hoarse cheering for you,” Jeff replied. “Funniest fucking thing I have seen in my life, though.”

“What?”

“Your sister called you going on offense to get a touchdown sometime in the third quarter. When you came in the game, we turned to her, and she was standing there with a huge smirk on her face like, ‘I told you.’ It was freaking hilarious!”

“He ain’t lying. It was damn funny, but you know what no one was laughing at?” Johnnie asked.

“What?”

“Your speed mutha fucker! You looked almost as fast as me, and them folks had trouble dealing with it.”

Everyone laughed, and even a bunch of the JV guys guffawed. Tim’s two friends began introducing themselves to the others, and eventually, everyone was dressed and ready for the end of the day. This game was played on Thursday night, and they all still had school the next day. There are not many parties after a junior varsity game. Most people enjoy the game, get something for dinner and relax.

“Tim Murphy!” A booming voice yelled from in front of the coaches door. “Tim Murphy, on me!” Tim had not yet put on his shoes, so he walked barefoot around the logo on the floor and then up to Coach. He was still drying his hair, so he let the towel go limp on his shoulder.

“Yes, Coach.”

Coach Van Cleave was in almost the same attire, except he was wearing a new set of coaching shorts, a clean t-shirt with “Rider Pride” in big capital letters emblazoned across his chest, and a towel laying limp on his bald head. The coach was bald but, rather than worry about it, he shaved the rest of his head, and it looked like he had just given it another shave before coming out to the lockers. “Tim, here. Read this and keep it safe. This is the offensive playbook. We want you to learn the plays from the tight end position as well as the other receiver position. We can see you possibly becoming a sort of man-of-all-trades for us that we can bring in on offense if we feel you can help the team. Whaddaya think of that?”

The gray folder was filled with sheets of papers and several plays drawn on each page. It looked like the plays were listed by formation and what plays could be run from what formations.

The smile on Tim’s face was easy to see. “Yes, sir. I’ll learn the plays as quick as I can. Do you need me to dress for tomorrow night’s game?”

Mayhem in a PillChapter 65 Party All the Time

“Damn, man,” Frank Robinson fumed as he slammed his right hand and forearm on the roof of the Ford Explorer. “Why the fuck did you do that, man?” Tim was about to slide into the passenger seat but stopped himself and stood back up to look at the driver and captain of the defensive side of the school’s varsity football team. “What are you talking about? I got a map to the real party right here,” Tim answered, a bit confused by his friends’ change in attitude. “Dude, never. Never. Never....

I woke up to a pair of black eyes staring into mine only centimeters away. "I must be in heaven," I whispered. "Well," Leanne replied with a slight grin on her lips. "Ah will say of all the first words ya could have when returning from the dead those certainly saved yer arse a stern talking to." "I love you," I whispered again. Mayhem in a PillChapter 30 Friday Night Lights on a Saturday

The congratulatory pats on the back and raucous shaking from the freshman football team still in the locker room were easily heard outside the locker room where many parents and fans were waiting for the player-of-the-game to come out. Tim finished transferring his stuff from the freshman locker area into the JV locker room. Johnnie and the rest of Tim’s friends were sitting around waiting for him so they could make an appearance at the Sombrero Rosa’s across the street where many of the...

-Brad & Patricia- "Well there you are," Pat said happily when she opened the door. "We were wondering when you'd show up. You're a day late and we started worrying." "Sorry," Brad said looking embarrassed. "One of my other families was having a little problem and it took me longer than I expected. Hopefully you haven't run out of anything because of my screw-up." Mayhem in a PillChapter 59 Catch 22

“So, you didn’t see anyone when you got out of the restroom?” Raymond asked his son while the two were in the front yard doing a final rinse of all the paint splashed on the family car. “No, sir. I opened the door and looked both ways, but no one was there, and a few minutes later, when I left the locker room, I also didn’t see anyone,” Tim answered but paused before continuing. “Now that I think about it, Dad. I didn’t even see the guys leave the restroom. I didn’t hear any rumors about...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 62 Finally A Challenge

The coin flip at the start of the game was interesting. The Churchill Chargers sent their entire offensive line to the fifty-yard line to meet the captains for the Roosevelt Rough Riders. The five young men were not precisely marching, but it looked as if they walked in perfect step with each other. It wasn’t with the same timing as a military march, but the center would take action, then the guards on either side would step, followed by the tackles on the outside. It was almost...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 33 A Man of Wealth and Taste

A Man of Wealth and Taste Raymond Murphy had trouble keeping the smile off his face. His son Tim was going on and on about how cool it was being on the sidelines for the varsity football win against the Clark Cougars. The first half of football featured an unsure Roosevelt team going up against a Clark team who, though good, was not up to their usual standards and was going to have a down year. Roosevelt was not expected to make the playoffs. “I’m telling you, Dad, Frank Robinson looked...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 16 Who Doesnt Like Mondays

There was something different in the locker room the following Monday morning before practice. Tim could almost feel it in the air as he entered. The normal early birds were already getting ready for first-period practice and, as usual, Tim was the first freshman to arrive. He was not alone for long, though. Others would begin arriving in a few minutes. After gathering his locker basket and changing into his workout shirt and shorts, Tim heard the main door to the locker room slam against...

-Daniel- Waking up in a hospital isn't exactly new to me unfortunately but waking up in one with a dark-haired angel curled up by my side sure was. If you have to wake up in a place like that I heartily recommend it. I was flat on my stomach with Sumalee snuggled in next to me. They must have given me some pain meds because I didn't feel anything but if they'd laid me face down there was probably a reason so I wasn't about to roll over. However the fact that they let someone in here with...

Monday morning, the change in the emotions of the student body was palpable. While the student body usually disregarded the results of the football team’s accomplishments, school pride was evident this day. Not only was their happiness of the win over Judson wafting strongly through the halls, but the following weekend was also Homecoming. This year, the Roosevelt Rough Riders were facing the Robert E. Lee Volunteers. The student body was already making plans for celebrating the next win over...

Crono didn't think he'd ever get used to the year 2300 AD. Outside the domes, the desolate landscape seemed to stretch out in all directions for miles, the only thing breaking the monotony being the occasional dead tree or abandoned city. No living beings were to be found, aside from the deranged, the mutated or the mechanical. The sharp, bitter winds stung his skin as his scarf flapped behind him, tugging and flapping almost as if screaming "let's go back". He didn't blame it; the joy...

The mood in the locker room was euphoric. A true party atmosphere. The coaches usually spent a few minutes outside of the locker room during halftime of a game, to give the team leaders time to go over the play of their teammates. Then the coaches would come in and tell them what they saw during the first half, and then together, they would try to correct problems and plan for what to do in the second half. These were all severe concentration and serious work times for the game, even if the...

-Brian- It had taken awhile to get Allison calmed down and it wasn't easy, let me tell ya. Christ, the poor girl was completely overwhelmed and totally shell-shocked. If I'd had my med-kit with me I'd of tranked her (For those of you not lucky enough to have needed the services of a field medic it means I'd slip her an shot of Don't-give-a-shit juice and tranquilize her.) but I didn't and as my daddy always said, "Wish in one hand, and shit in the other and guess which one fills up...

Mayhem 3 Double Trouble Triple TeamedChapter 6

-Tampa- Brad glided into the parking area outside Grace's apartment complex and thumbed off the power. As much as he loved his bike it wasn't the first time he regretted not having one of the older IC-powered two-wheelers. His baby was a blast to ride but the almost silent hydrogen-fueled power cell just wasn't the same as one of the older piston-banging throbbers. He'd heard rumors that someone was going to introduce a replica of the old Harley-Davidson line using a...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 29 Unexpected Opportunities

His smile was wide as he made his way down the hall to his room. He heard his mother showering and going through her processes for bed. His dad just gave a halfhearted hello as he walked past their bedroom door. His dad was busy watching TV. Tim turned on the overhead light as he entered his room and immediately closed and locked the door. He quickly blew a kiss to Cindy on the wall, sat down at the desk, and was taking off his shoes when his mom knocked. Tim unlocked the door. “Hey, I...

MayhemChapter 4

I didn't stay long at the party ― it was their party, not mine ― and hiked back up to the flying bridge. I sat there for a while and burned one while thoughts flew through my head. What had I gotten myself in for? Was it more than a little flirting? (Okay, I knew it was more than just flirting, but how much more?) The only thing I knew for sure was that I didn't want it to stop no matter where it led. The weather guessers were right about the front coming in, for once. By 0100 it was...

MayhemChapter 8

Top came back a little over an hour later grinning like a mad fiend at the same time Weird surfaced from his daze. "The East Bay warehouses," Top announced triumphantly. "That checks," Weird nodded. "The first tracker on her limo stopped transmitting about midnight, just about the time she was supposed to have left the party. The second one didn't stop until they got right here." He placed his finger on a map of the Bay area. It was an area just west of East Bay. At one time there...

MayhemChapter 9

We couldn't tell how closely they had been watching Tink's house or even if they were so we didn't head straight there. I'm sure it would have been safe enough but I didn't want to take even the small chance of getting into a firefight. Besides I had no desire to see Cynthia right then and Tink didn't want to go back home just yet. Tink did call her to briefly say she was okay and would be home soon. Luckily I had to only hear half of that conversation. "I'm fine, Mom," Tink said...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 4

- Daniel- Okay, I knew the Xanadu was big but until you look down at it from a few thousand meters you can't really know just how fucking big it really is! Sure I know the specs and you can look them up yourself if you want to: 1,450 meters in length, 524 meters wide, displaces about 180,000 tonnes and carries up to 20,000 passengers with a crew of almost 3,000. That's not a ship, it's a small floating island! We got a good look at it as we flew out to meet it on the shuttle. Of course...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 5

-Sumalee- I was happier than I probably should have been when Daniel walked into my lounge again the next day and sat down at the bar. I could not tell you exactly why I was happy he had returned but I was. I mean ... looking at him through unbiased eyes he is not particularly handsome, other than in an everyman, rugged sort of way. But he was nice and listened, laughed at my silly jokes and seemed to be enjoying talking to me for a reason other than just a ploy to separate me from my...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 7

-Sumalee- It was still dark when I woke up that first night although I could see a little in the dimness from the small amount of moonlight shining in through the window. I rubbed my cheek on the warm surface I was sprawled on and smiled when I was rewarded by the scratchy roughness of Daniel's chest hairs. I hadn't moved a centimeter from where I had fallen asleep and neither had he. I was still face down on his chest as he lay on his back. He was not snoring but I could hear and feel the...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 8

-Mr. Black- "Do you have the vest made up?" Black asked as Green frowned at him. "Yeah, sort of," Green replied. Before Black could ask the obvious question he continued. "The gel is setting up and will be ready at the same time everything else is. It'll go off; no problem. No, the problem is the detonator; actually the remote activator for the detonator. This wasn't exactly in the mission plans so we didn't bring that kind of equipment with us. I was able to adapt an old raghead...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 15

-Sumalee- To say it had been an interesting evening would be an understatement. The relationship Daniel has with his team would make for a lifetime study by any clinical psychologist. We met two more of them that night: the brothers Stanley and Samuel. Their reaction to Lidia and myself was fascinating. It was almost like they had known us as long as Michelle, Brian and Nathan; almost like they had shared memories. As I said, fascinating, exciting and just a little intimidating. Not that...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 45 Proper Motivation

Rodney Valentine’s throat was sore from his screaming. His knuckles were scratched and bruised from pounding on that poor, unsuspecting asshole who didn’t know any better. Rodney was especially pissed because no one could figure out why he was so pissed off in the first place. Valentine and his posse of teammates arrived at the house party a little bit later than everyone else, as usual. It was an unwritten rule that the host of the party would have the game highlights from that weekend’s...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 49 Onyx

Tim, Troy, Rob, Frank, and Jeff were quiet most of the way on the drive to the address included with their multi-colored cards found in their lockers after the beating the Rough Riders had given to the Johnson Jaguars. The five young men crammed into Jeff’s GTO were mostly quiet, daydreaming about the story Troy had told them. “I think I know what this is. You guys feel like having an experience?” Troy asked with a strange, tilted smile. “My dad told me a story that he said I could never...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 51 A Messy Situation

A Messy Situation Once Tim Murphy closed his bedroom door and turned on the bedroom lamp, he blew a quick kiss to his one-and-only Cindy, taped up on the wall, and collapsed on the bed with the biggest smile of his life. Tim was quietly reliving what had happened to him after the game. When he laughed to himself, he realized he didn’t even think about the game when the great time he had that night ran through his mind. The quiet knock on the bedroom door alerted him to the here and now. The...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 63 Is It Better To Be Lucky or Good

Tim Murphy and the nanites in his body had already written the two reports – one for his English class and the other for his US History class. It was just a matter of typing and formatting the report in the proper sets. All in all, the two assignments only took a few minutes to type, save, and email to their respective teachers. When he sent his English paper, he had a flash of remembrance of his short relationship with his English teacher, Julianne Holmes, considered one of the hot teachers...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 64 Itrsquos Just a Party What Could Happen

The week of practice started with a few announcements from Big John on Monday morning. Big John had canceled morning practice with a sign written on the giant dry erase board along the long wall in the locker room. He didn’t cancel all practice, but it would be just no helmets or pads. That meant a full hour of lifting weights rather than working out on the practice fields in full pads – a day off for sure. Before practice would have typically begun, the Roosevelt football teams met in the...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 69 Sounds Good to Me

Going into downtown San Antonio for evening dinner was rare for the Murphy family. Of course, they went out to dinner occasionally but not very far from their neighborhood. Raymond had ordered the women in his life to a day of indulgence at their favorite beauty spa to get pampered and eventually have their makeup done. While the womenfolk were enjoying their day of pampering, the men folk went to fill a glaring hole in the younger Murphy man’s life: the lack of a nice suit. Tim had never...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 70 Dinner and a Show

As they did so often, the Murphy family sang along with the music on the radio. The Murphy parents both enjoyed all genres and encouraged their children to listen to all types of music. Juanita had her favorites and listened to them with the specialized music channels through the cable provider. She preferred the popular hits from the 1980s and 1990s, while Raymond also preferred that and rock music from the 1970s. The patriarch of the family steered into a parking lot nearby the...

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 4

The next day was moving day. I've heard how being out on tour with an entertainer can seem a little like riding a tornado without a safety belt but you couldn't tell that by me. I've heard how some tours play twenty cities in twenty days but that isn't how things are done in Ireland. Time seems less important and venues aren't always open when you want them to be. We were doing 25 shows in three months and that included a two-week break in the middle to "relax." Not exactly an arduous...

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 5

The next few weeks were just plain work. It probably seems like touring with a popular band would be great fun and endless adventure but mostly it was a lot like combat: endless hours of boredom interrupted by moments of shear terror. Well, terror is probably a bit of an overstatement, maybe agitation and concern would be more appropriate. Anytime the girls were heading into a large crowd there was a concern; happily we hadn't had anything like the clusterfuck we'd seen in Clonakilty but...

Malti8217s Home Remedy For Priya

This is a real-life incident about a home remedy that I want to share with you. This happened between Malti and Priya lived diagonally across the road in the township of a yarn mill located away from the city of Aurangabad. One early afternoon after lunch and after putting her nursery going son Bunty to sleep, Malti went to Priya’s house for some chit chat. Priya’s eyes were red as if she was crying. Malti asked, “What happened, Priya?” Priya: Nothing, Bhabhi. It is just my eyes are burning...

Mayhem Room 69

Feb 12, 2011 10:24 Am You were supposed to have checked out of the hotel by 11 am. The bags were packed but you had needs that must be tended to before leaving. A long flight awaited you at the airport and knowing you couldn't stand to be this horny all the way home you decided to take matters into your own hands one more time before leaving. I had been given the key to your room from the hotel manger. This was a room that was scheduled for remodeling and my contracting firm was putting in a...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 3 Back to the Future

A by product of time travel that no one knew about was the momentary blindness and nausea brought on from the rapid assault to your senses immediately after travel. But for some reason only on your return. When he re-materialized in the time travel chamber, Tim Murphy needed to shield his eyes from the suddenly ultra bright lights. He also needed to make a concerted effort to control his nausea. Nausea controlled and his sensitivity to light diminishing, Tim decided it was time to see how...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 5 At the Hospital

The drive to the hospital was uneventful and easy enough. Tim’s mother, Juanita, parked the family SUV in a General’s parking spot, right outside the front entrance to the emergency room. Tim’s father, Raymond, who was standing just inside the ER doors, knew from the frantic sound of his wife’s voice on the phone that she would not obey the parking rules and would take the first available space she found. Raymond quickly reached the SUV before Juanita could turn off the engine. He stuck his...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 6 An Unexpected Debut

Summer two-a-day practices are a rite of passage for the Texas high school football player. The players arrived at their new high school, two weeks before the start of the new school year. Sure, they were only going to the football locker room, the football practice fields and also the weight room; but the psychological advantage of being able to GO to high school, earlier, was a definite positive feeling for the young soon to be high schooler. Freshmen did not have their own cars ... yet....

To say Tim was excited, would be a major understatement. “It was sooo cool, Mom,” Tim was almost jumping up and down in the front seat of the SUV while his mother was driving them home. “I was sitting there reading, and the librarian came up to me. I didn’t even hear her, as I was paying attention to what I was reading. She actually scared me when she touched my shoulder to get my attention. Standing with her was Coach Barrett, her husband. He’d come all the way to the library to just meet...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 8 Doubting the Future

The lights turned on in the cell at half past six, every morning since Tim got back from his trip to the past. About a week after returning from the past, his nanites confirmed his hypothesis that no one he had met, yet, had any nanites of their own. Tim theorized to himself the interrogators did not have any nanite improvements since they constantly made mistakes in their questioning and also in their answers to his questions. Oh, they answered the questions as he believed they would but...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 9 Gotta Start Somewhere

A good hundred or so young men full of testosterone and desperate to show they were not afraid, were indeed afraid. Afraid of not fitting in. Afraid of being shown they were not good enough to make it on the freshman football team. Afraid they were good enough to make it on the freshman football team. Afraid of the high school girls. Afraid of the high school guys. Afraid of the work their new teachers were preparing to pile on them. Afraid they would not be able to finish the work their new...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 10 Lets Get It Started

With the day’s drama complete after finishing with their equipment, they began leaving the locker area to try and enjoy their final day of relaxation before the two-a-days started. Tim and his friends crossed a very busy Walzem Road, right in front of the high school. Walzem Road’s three lanes headed northeast and three lanes going southwest were divided by a median island running the length of the high school. Once beyond the high school, the divider island changed into a turning lane....

The tacos were just great. Tim was still not doing anything to jeopardize the loss of the twice-a-week breakfast tacos treats. George was still bringing in the savory, artery-clogging breakfast tacos from everyone's favorite family restaurant. In fact, George was now adding an extra taco, since he understood the body's instant response once it smelled one of Yolanda's tacos. Whether breakfast tacos dripping in the grease of the Mexican sausage and fluffy egg combination, or the...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 12 A Day of Firsts

First day of school for both Murphy kids saw a return of a family tradition: Mom fixed a full breakfast for everyone. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, fruits and all kinds of baked goods. She generally cooks for the family, then the mothers from the neighborhood carpool come and enjoy a wonderful meal at their own pace. There were usually a few empty bottles of wine in the trash when the kids returned home from the first day of school. Rumor has it the same carpoolers also got together toward...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 13 A Fine Mess

“Hey, Joe, what do you mean the freshmen offense knows fourteen plays already? I thought Big John only wanted the freshmen to concentrate on getting in shape, until at least the first scrimmage,” Kevin Krebsback, the JV and Varsity defensive backs coach asked, once the freshmen left the coaches office for second period. “It’s exactly what I said it was, Kevin,” Coach Alvarez said. As he sat back down at his desk, he saw he had everyone’s attention, including Coach Barrett. The freshman...
