Tim, Troy, Rob, Frank, and Jeff were quiet most of the way on the drive to the address included with their multi-colored cards found in their lockers after the beating the Rough Riders had given to the Johnson Jaguars. The five young men crammed into Jeff’s GTO were mostly quiet, daydreaming about the story Troy had told them.

“I think I know what this is. You guys feel like having an experience?” Troy asked with a strange, tilted smile.

“My dad told me a story that he said I could never repeat, but I think he would say you guys are alright to hear it.” Troy looked over behind Tim and Frank, toward the football locker area and the coaches offices. “My dad likes to tell the story of securing his schools’ playoff spot when they beat their district rivals when he was a senior in high school in Dallas. He’s all Al Bundy, ‘I scored four touchdowns in one game, by myself,’ but I guess one night after he got drunk, he decided he wanted to tell me the story of how he lost his virginity.”

“Senior year! Fuck me. Poor bastard,” Frank mumbled before he could gain control of his mouth.

“The same fuckin’ thing almost shot outta my mouth when the old man pulled me into his home office. We weren’t allowed to go inside his office so, of course, I wanted to be in there more than anywhere in the world,” Troy joked. “He told me to sit down on this big leather sofa he had in there. I didn’t even know he had a couch, let alone a big leather one.

“Anyways, he starts with telling his ‘four touchdowns in that one game’ story again, and I’m getting ready to ignore him as I usually do. He sees this and knocks me on my head with his knuckle. Didn’t hurt but got my attention,” Troy said while his focus goes off somewhere but quickly returns. “He tells me about how, when he got home after the game, there was a small envelope taped to the side door of the house. No one else but him and the help used that door to enter the house, but he said his mom let the help go for the weekend, on Fridays, after lunch. She thought she was a nicer boss by doing that.

“So he said he had gone out with a few friends after the game and then did some heavy petting with his girl, and she let him get under her sweater and feeling on some tit but no further. Anyways, he’s coming home, and he uses the help door since it is on the other side of the house from his parent’s room, and they can’t hear it whenever it opens or closes. Taped on the door, at eye level, was one of these,” Tony said, and he held up the envelope.

“Your old man got one of these before,” Rob exclaimed, almost with awe in his voice. Tony kept nodding his head with evident pride.

“He goes on to tell me about this house and how the women are wearing absolutely nothing but masks and guys walking around clothed and in masks. He said they had these different colored flags sticking on each door, and he was only allowed to go into rooms with the same color of the mask he was wearing. He said he went with the star running back, who he learned had been to the place a couple of times so, when they were walking up to the door, he told them about receiving a certain color, and those were the only places they could go. He said if you try to go into a room with a color where you aren’t allowed to go, they will kick you out, and there was zero tolerance for breaking the rules.”

“Wait a second,” Jeff interrupted. “Ain’t that like that movie with Tom Cruise, um, Eyes Wide Shut?”

Tony points his finger at Jeff and blurts out. “Exactly, that’s what I said. He leaned forward looked me dead in the eye and said, ‘Where do you think they got the idea?’”

“So are you saying the five of us just got invited to some private, secret orgy out in the most expensive houses in the state?” Tim asked.

“Yeah, I think so.” The five took a moment to look at each other and, to a one, they smiled and made their way back to their lockers. They realized they were the last ones in the locker room.

They stopped at the security station just inside the large gated community Google Maps had shown for the trip. The security guard made an effort to admire Jeff’s GTO then gestured for Jeff to roll down his window. “And where do y’all think you are doing here?” The southern drawl was easily one of the most pronounced Tim had ever heard.

“Um, we are going to a party. We got invitations.”

“I ain’t been told about no high school party tonight. Y’all must have the wrong address. Go ahead and git on outta here a-fore I gotta call the cops on ya!”

Troy, who sat directly behind Jeff, raised his black envelope so the security guard could see it. The other four raised theirs as well. The security guard looked as if he had seen a ghost and visibly swallowed.

“Oh, um, oops, sorry about that sirs. I ain’t seen anybody showed up for the party, yet, not in a limo of some kind, but this sure as hell is a beautiful set of wheels.” The guard stepped back into his booth and hit the button to raise the gate. “Sorry about wasting y’alls’ time. Please enjoy your party.” He gave some weird salute, and the gate lifted out of the way.

A few seconds after passing through the entrance, the guys were laughing about the guard’s change in attitude while they made their way further into the gated community. Tim spotted something out of ordinary first. “Whoa, is that an AK-47?”

Everyone turned to see a large man with a gun hanging across his chest. He was dressed in all black and wore black sunglasses. He looked right at the five teammates in the car and raised his hand to an earpiece. A second later, the guard pointed toward the left of the intersection they were approaching. Jeff steered left, and the guys began seeing more guards with earpieces, and each guard carried what the guys assumed were AK-47’s. The joking stopped at the sight of the first guard.

Tim’s nanites had been pointing out even more guards posted behind corners and even in some of the darkened houses. There were not many places along the street toward the main house that did not have a guard somewhere nearby. The nanites pointed out the guards had a well-established perimeter around the large house. If law enforcement authorities came to break up the party, the guards would have plenty of time to react.

“Dudes, I’m pretty sure they got guns everywhere. I definitely would not start any shit in here. Rob keep your fuckin’ mouth shut while we in here,” Frank said with a growl of importance in his words.

“No shit, man. I got you. I don’t want no AK up my ass,” Rob promised. “Do we all still want to go? I didn’t expect no guns or shit.”

No one said anything for a few seconds. Eventually, everyone agreed to keep on. Everyone had questions and wanted to see this for themselves.

Their destination was easy enough to pick out as they followed several limos as they pulled up to the front door and well-dressed people made their way via the front door.

Jeff finally pulled up to the front door, using the circular driveway, and a man wearing a suit with a striking orange vest opened Jeff’s door. Three more men dressed in black, with bright orange vests, quickly and efficiently opened the other doors.

The five moved up the steps toward the front door. There were two men, both at least six feet tall and both dressed in a black suit with AK-47’s hanging over their stomachs, standing outside. Four more of these men lined either side of the foyer entrance of the beautiful home. These four moved to face the five teenagers, their hands steady at the wait.

One of the men in front of the door stepped forward. “Hello, gentlemen. Please stand still for a moment so we can check each of you for a weapon.” Another guard stepped underneath the covered entryway and began checking each teammate for weapons. When they checked Jeff last for weapons, the man said, “We will park your car for you and keep the keys here at the check-in desk, just inside.” Jeff nodded.

After all five were found not to be carrying any weapons, the tension dissipated like a cool breeze from a beach. “Gentlemen, please wait in the foyer until the Mistress shows you to the entrance room, and do not enter any rooms until you hear the rules. It is for your safety as well as the other guests. Welcome to Onyx.”

The guard opened the door and waved the five Rough Riders into the entrance foyer.

There were three closed doors you could see from the lobby. One to the right had a bronze plate that read, in a flourishing font, “Office.” The main focal point to the entrance, though, was the bifurcated staircase. The stunning design saw the main staircase lead up halfway between the first floor and the second floor. There, they formed a small in-between level, with two more guards setting up their posts, before the stairs came back to the front door, blocking the view to the next floor above. Two more guards were in front of a set of double doors, to the left of the staircase, and the bass from the music inside rung everywhere.

A few moments after entering the main foyer of the house and waiting for a sign of where to go next, the five saw the double doors open, giving a quick peek at what was inside. The music was easily recognizable as a current hit with repeating rhythms and a pulsating dance beat. On a stage, surrounded by LED lighting pulsing with the music, was a nearly-nude woman winding her way around a pole in the center of the stage. She wore only stiletto-heeled shoes and the bottoms of a yellow bikini. She was in the mid-spin on the pole, holding it with her legs, wrapped around it like a boa constrictor, and her arms extended out. The door quickly closed as a scantily-clad woman escorted a man in a perfectly-tailored suit up one of the stairs.

The five did not notice the devastatingly attractive and statuesque blonde woman who had walked up behind them. “Excuse me.” All five jumped at the sudden voice right behind them. Then the teammates admired her from head to toe, twice, as if all five acted as one. The blonde smiled.”My name is Alicia. If you would follow me, please.” She half pointed toward the door on the main floor, to their right, marked “Office.”

The five formed a line and followed her to the door. She opened it, and the other four went into the office while Tim gestured for the woman to go in first as he held the door. She gave a slight nod of thanks and went in herself.

“Please, each of you take a seat.” She made her way around a large oak desk at the center of the office. There were two guest chairs and a large sofa in front of the desk. Fully stocked bookcases lined the office. A quick read of the spines indicated a decidedly eclectic taste.

“Welcome to Onyx. Again, my name is Alicia, and I am here to explain who we are and why you are here. First of all, you must be asking why you are here. A member of our governing body has become interested in your football team. Even though Mr. Murphy’s play has been what struck the matches, he has become involved in the four of you as well. I know I am not speaking out of turn here, but Mr. Murphy, I’ve been told, is an exceptional football player, and your benefactor has decided to help your growth as a player. He does not want payment, and he will not ask for any favors later.

“That goes for any of you. It was Mr. Murphy who brought his eye to your team, but he noticed all five of you have the talent to go far in your current sport. He will help from afar as a fan. You probably won’t even notice his help, but it will be there. He has done this in the past, and he will make himself known to you all individually.

“Now, Mr. Smith, your benefactor left a note saying your willingness to move positions to help the team more than yourself was an amazing thing to see. He was impressed you realized moving from your position to inside would help the team as well as yourself. He hopes you enjoy making your choice of where to play college football. He said you would have a difficult choice but to trust your instincts.”

Alicia swiped right on her tablet and turned herself to look to Rob Newsome. “Mr. Newsome, your benefactor has noted that your talents have not been able to shine with the old offense favored by your coach, but he has indicated you need to make sure to take all the opportunities that are coming. He has described that you will earn a college scholarship for your track and field talents, but don’t forget about maybe walking onto the football team at whatever school you choose, as you will also have several choices. Next is Frank Robinson.

“As you know, you will have many choices, but the smaller schools you have already been hearing from are excellent choices should you go that route, but he warns you that the more you win, the more the larger schools are going to take notice of you. Having options is a beautiful thing, but having too many choices can also be a bad thing.

“Mr. Williams, it seems your future’s already laid out for you if you choose to go that way, but you, like Mr. Robinson, are beginning to open eyes of other larger football programs. If you follow your father’s planned route, your life will be fine but, if you decide to choose a different path, that will also be available to you.

“Finally, Mr. Murphy. With your youth and your talent, your future is wide open, and our benefactor looks forward to watching how you take the next steps.” Alicia put the tablet down and looked at the flabbergasted high school football teammates quietly working over what they had just heard.

“Okay, let me explain Onyx a little more for you. We are an organization built to help people of means to find fulfillment in their lives by making their innermost wants available to them – well, anything that is not breaking any laws, anyway.” She giggled and continued with her description. “We host parties all across the globe for our members and make those parties available for their guests as well.

“Tonight’s party is not necessarily for you five, but you can get an introduction to us and get a little sample of what we provide. I understand that Mr. Williams has already heard a description of one of our parties from his father but that none of you have ever heard of our organization before, correct?” she charged. Each of the five nodded, yes. “Good. Please keep it that way.”

“Onyx serves to entertain the elite members of society. You five have been gifted with the opportunity to become full-fledged members of Onyx. Please note the selection process takes many years and Onyx moves at their own pace,” the statuesque blonde said from behind the large oak desk.

“A member of our governing board has offered you five the opportunity to join our organization once you have become full members of society. We are watching how you grow up and become adults before we will offer you full membership within Onyx.”

Tim meekly raised his hand. Alicia pointed to him. “Um, I still don’t understand what this is,” Tim asked while waving around the room.

“Of course. I was getting to that,” Alicia said as she adjusted her legs, causing all, except Tim, to shift their eyes under the desk. Tim would have looked at her legs, but he was reading a quick update from the nanites. “We are currently counting three cameras focused on your group right now. When you were waiting in the foyer, there were several more cameras focused on you. Keep in mind, everywhere you go here is always being watched on camera and most likely recorded for future use. We wish for you to exercise caution.” The words disappeared from his sight, then, “End of transmission.”

Alicia noticed Tim did not go for the quick look to her flashing her legs and made a mental note to herself. “Everything associated with Onyx will be discussed with you at some time in your future but, for tonight, here are the rules.”

“We have four different levels of allowed behavior here at Onyx. The yellow, blue, and black levels are for members of Onyx, while the white level is for employees.” Alicia raised her hand and pointed to a white silicone wristband on her wrist. It looked like the type people prominently wear in support of fighting cancer or other causes.

“Here in Onyx, white supersedes all color levels and allows white cardholders to go anywhere. Since they work here, they need to be able to go anywhere to do their jobs.” Alicia paused and put her finger up to her ear, and the five could now see she was listening to someone on her earpiece. She stood up, and Tim went to stand up as well, but she waved him off. “Oh no, please excuse me a moment. My work is never done. Please, I’ll only be a moment.” She walked out of the room, and the anxiety filling the room dissipated quickly as the five focused on each other.

“What do you guys think?” Troy asked the others.

“Well, it sounds a little weird to me, but what I don’t understand is why we got picked. I mean, I can probably understand picking Mayhem, but I just had the game of my life, and I haven’t done anything near as much in any previous game I’ve played. No offense, Rob, but this is the first time I remember you getting more than five catches and a couple of touchdowns in any game since we were freshmen. Why did they pick you?” Jeff wondered aloud.

“Well, you heard her, she said it was because of what they expect me to do in track, not just football,” Rob defended himself.

The door opened, causing everyone’s head to turn to see Alicia reenter the room. “Sorry about the disruption. We had a bit of a fire in the kitchen and had to put it out before the fire department arrived. We would not want to cancel the party just because of a little grease fire that was easily put out.”

“Okay, let’s begin again, shall we?” Everyone nodded, and she continued her explanation. “The yellow card is a basic level.” She reached into a drawer of the desk and removed two plastic wristbands, passing them over to Troy and Rob. She waited a moment while both slipped their ring around their right wrists. Troy put it on his left initially, but Alicia pointed out it should only be worn on the right wrist.

“You are allowed into the main room, and you are allowed to eat and drink whatever you like. You are also entitled to play with whoever agrees to play with you – be they other guests or Onyx employees.

“I noticed when I first popped out to see you guys that you got a quick glimpse of the main floor. Think of Onyx as basically a traveling strip club but, here, you don’t just watch. You get to join in. If you see a stripper, and you like her looks, invite her to your table and have a couple of drinks. Talk and get to know each other a little bit. You can use your real names, but all employees use fake names to keep their real identities a secret. Trust us that we have vetted every employee thoroughly.

“So, in essence, we are a strip club where you get more than a lap dance and getting to go home with a rock hard hard-on. Instead of getting you hard and forcing you to take care of yourself once you get home, they’ll get you hard and take care of it for you.” The guys grinned and looked at each other happily. “Everyone here is clean and with complete bills of health but, of course, if you would prefer, condoms are easily accessible in many areas of the home.

“Next is the blue cards.” Alicia passed out the two blue wristbands and watched as Jeff and Frank put them on their right wrists. It was easy to tell that Frank’s wristband was a little too snug around his wrist, so Alicia found a larger sized one that fit perfectly around Frank’s more-massive-than-average wrists.

“These get the same privileges as a yellow card, but they also include access to our VIP level, where private rooms are. In these rooms, anything goes. You are the VIP guests, and you get to pick what happens — anything within the law, of course. We would not want to get anyone into any trouble. Each of these rooms also has video of the main room so if you see someone you are interested in, just let a waiter know and the person of your interest will come to you.

“I will tell you, a lot of times, these private rooms have nothing happening. Because of our top-of-the-line security, many businesses and even some countries have used our services to come hammer out political agreements or business deals. Of course, the best way to celebrate the completion of your deals or mergers is to be in Onyx.”

Alicia pulled out a black wristband but quickly put it back and dug further into the drawer. She pulled out a larger wristband, like Frank’s, but this one was black to match Tim’s card. “Black is the highest level here at Onyx and, to be honest, I’m not sure of the extra privileges afforded to you as a black member.”

“Hey, Tim, now you’ll finally get to be like me and have a black member,” Frank joked, causing everyone, including Alicia, to laugh.

“Later tonight, another black level guest is arriving, and they will take some time to introduce themselves to you and explain what you get as a black level guest here at Onyx.” Tim nodded his understanding.

“Oh, my goodness! I almost forgot one of the other main differences between Onyx and any other gentleman’s club. It is a small thing, but it does make Onyx the number one party in the world. Sometimes we have people you might recognize not only in the crowd watching the show but also performing.”

Alicia rolled herself to the side to give them a full view of the monitor behind her head. The music was turned up and was recognizable. When the black shoulder-length, curly-haired vixen slid across the stage and ripped off the remains of a top she was barely wearing, everyone could see Katy Perry working a microphone like a dildo. It was clear the singer was lip-syncing.

“Yeah, that girl will sit around naked and have drinks with a gaggle of rich, wealthy men and even go down on a few she preferred, but we never get her to sing. Ugh. Well, the guest who requested her went away happy, so I guess everyone is a winner, right?” Alicia said as she turned off the monitor and moved the chair back to where it was supposed to be.

“Are there any celebrities performing tonight?” Tim asked, happily thinking of the possibilities, while his teammates grunted their approval of the question.

“Unfortunately tonight, of Miss Perry’s standing, no, but we do hire members from the larger adult entertainment companies.” The eyebrows on a couple of the players went up as their interest was suitably piqued. Alicia reached for her tablet, once again, and started reading off names from a list.

“Vivid, Bang Bros, Brazzers, Digital Playground, Elegant Angel, Jules Jordan Video, Larry Flynt Publications, Naughty America, Playboy, Red Light District, Reality Kings, Sin City, and Wicked Pictures all have actresses who are either under contract with their company or have worked with these women, and a few men, here tonight. Tonight there is a better than average chance at finding one of them. We brought in a lot of talent tonight since there is some porn convention in Dallas next week.” Alicia giggled to herself and then said, “there will probably be a caravan of porn stars driving to Dallas on Sunday.

“But remember, there are a few guests here tonight you might recognize. Please try to respect their privacy. They are here looking for a good time just like everyone else. We like for our celebrity guests to realize that, once they are inside one of our parties, they are treated just like everyone else. If you are not a celebrity when you’re at one of our get parties, you are treated like a celebrity.

“Now, I understand tonight we have a five-star chef cooking. I have not, as of yet, been able to try any of his food, but getting him to come out and cook for us was an expensive proposition, so please enjoy the food as well.”

The group left Alicia’s office and made their way up the steps to the main entrance at the top of the staircase. At the main door was a guard whom Tim thought he recognized as the man who left the cards in their lockers. He was a large man, around seven foot tall and near 400 pounds. However, the guard was not fat. He looked like a Mack Truck. Even his voice was intimidating.

MayhemChapter 3

Gossip rags are like cockroaches: there are millions of them everywhere and you just can't kill them. The names change from "Galaxy" to "Nova" to "Star Struck" but they're all the same. I never saw the cameras nor the low-lifes behind them but starting the next day there were pictures of Tink on the back of my bike all over the bloody things. Apparently I was her sex-slave, or she was my kidnap victim or some other outrageous bullshit. It was annoying. Luckily I don't answer my...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 65 Party All the Time

“Damn, man,” Frank Robinson fumed as he slammed his right hand and forearm on the roof of the Ford Explorer. “Why the fuck did you do that, man?” Tim was about to slide into the passenger seat but stopped himself and stood back up to look at the driver and captain of the defensive side of the school’s varsity football team. “What are you talking about? I got a map to the real party right here,” Tim answered, a bit confused by his friends’ change in attitude. “Dude, never. Never. Never....

I woke up to a pair of black eyes staring into mine only centimeters away. "I must be in heaven," I whispered. "Well," Leanne replied with a slight grin on her lips. "Ah will say of all the first words ya could have when returning from the dead those certainly saved yer arse a stern talking to." "I love you," I whispered again. "I wanted to say that before they..." "Enough," she said placing a finger lightly over my lips. "We know and that's enough." Her fingers moved up to...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 30 Friday Night Lights on a Saturday

The congratulatory pats on the back and raucous shaking from the freshman football team still in the locker room were easily heard outside the locker room where many parents and fans were waiting for the player-of-the-game to come out. Tim finished transferring his stuff from the freshman locker area into the JV locker room. Johnnie and the rest of Tim’s friends were sitting around waiting for him so they could make an appearance at the Sombrero Rosa’s across the street where many of the...

-Brad & Patricia- "Well there you are," Pat said happily when she opened the door. "We were wondering when you'd show up. You're a day late and we started worrying." "Sorry," Brad said looking embarrassed. "One of my other families was having a little problem and it took me longer than I expected. Hopefully you haven't run out of anything because of my screw-up." "It wasn't a screw-up if you were helping someone," Pat admonished. "We have plenty; we just worried about...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 59 Catch 22

“So, you didn’t see anyone when you got out of the restroom?” Raymond asked his son while the two were in the front yard doing a final rinse of all the paint splashed on the family car. “No, sir. I opened the door and looked both ways, but no one was there, and a few minutes later, when I left the locker room, I also didn’t see anyone,” Tim answered but paused before continuing. “Now that I think about it, Dad. I didn’t even see the guys leave the restroom. I didn’t hear any rumors about...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 62 Finally A Challenge

The coin flip at the start of the game was interesting. The Churchill Chargers sent their entire offensive line to the fifty-yard line to meet the captains for the Roosevelt Rough Riders. The five young men were not precisely marching, but it looked as if they walked in perfect step with each other. It wasn’t with the same timing as a military march, but the center would take action, then the guards on either side would step, followed by the tackles on the outside. It was almost...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 16 Who Doesnt Like Mondays

There was something different in the locker room the following Monday morning before practice. Tim could almost feel it in the air as he entered. The normal early birds were already getting ready for first-period practice and, as usual, Tim was the first freshman to arrive. He was not alone for long, though. Others would begin arriving in a few minutes. After gathering his locker basket and changing into his workout shirt and shorts, Tim heard the main door to the locker room slam against...

-Daniel- Waking up in a hospital isn't exactly new to me unfortunately but waking up in one with a dark-haired angel curled up by my side sure was. If you have to wake up in a place like that I heartily recommend it. I was flat on my stomach with Sumalee snuggled in next to me. They must have given me some pain meds because I didn't feel anything but if they'd laid me face down there was probably a reason so I wasn't about to roll over. However the fact that they let someone in here with...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 57 Glitter Gets Everywhere

Monday morning, the change in the emotions of the student body was palpable. While the student body usually disregarded the results of the football team’s accomplishments, school pride was evident this day. Not only was their happiness of the win over Judson wafting strongly through the halls, but the following weekend was also Homecoming. This year, the Roosevelt Rough Riders were facing the Robert E. Lee Volunteers. The student body was already making plans for celebrating the next win over...

The mood in the locker room was euphoric. A true party atmosphere. The coaches usually spent a few minutes outside of the locker room during halftime of a game, to give the team leaders time to go over the play of their teammates. Then the coaches would come in and tell them what they saw during the first half, and then together, they would try to correct problems and plan for what to do in the second half. These were all severe concentration and serious work times for the game, even if the...

Monday morning. Tim could feel something in the air was ‘off’ as soon as he walked into the locker room. It was deathly quiet. Tim expected the spirits of his fellow football players to be high after the last weekend of Roosevelt football success. The JV and Freshman teams easily won their games against MacArthur, and the elation of the varsity win was still riding high if the number of requests for interviews in his email were to serve as a barometer. Tim quickly learned, though, that the...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 72 Attention Hound

“I can’t believe it. Still, no luck.” Alicia Martinez, a young reporter with KSAT-TV in San Antonio, got an early jump on the story of the year: an apparent riot broke out at a high-end, popular downtown restaurant. According to her sources, the riot was not a simple fight getting out of hand but also involved international star singer/songwriter/model/actress Olivia King and her boyfriend, YungBalla69. He was an Internet billionaire and notorious “traveling sideshow” of bad boy behavior. To...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 73 New Record Why Not

“Murphy!” yelled Big John Fontana. The Theodore Roosevelt High School’s head coach and athletic director had just blown the final whistle for Monday morning practice. “Give me a second, son.” Tim Murphy finished his conversation with his friends before turning back toward the coaches. He and the other players were returning to the locker room for showers before beginning their regular school day. “Yeah, Coach?” Tim replied with his helmet under one arm. “I got a call from my old friend...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 17 Now It Counts

Tim’s father Raymond considered the chance to go with his son to his first football game something of a bonding opportunity. Going to the first varsity football game with his son and his son’s new best friends was like chocolate sprinkles on the desert. So Raymond and Tim with Johnnie Boynes, Mark Mazzurana, Jeff Green and Tony Parker were cruising toward Northside Stadium, home field for the Warren Warriors. Everyone was excited because they were all going to get a small taste of their first...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 20 Kick Off

Juanita didn’t exactly know what to do to get Tim ready for his first game. Her initial feelings were to make a good solid breakfast, for him to have enough energy for the game. Raymond came in for his cup of coffee and was able to confirm what she was thinking, but she was making too much food. “Honey, what are you doing? Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cinnamon rolls. Good God, dear, we’ll never be able to finish all this off,” Raymond was rubbing her shoulders from...

Mayhem 3 Double Trouble Triple TeamedChapter 5

-Brian- It had taken awhile to get Allison calmed down and it wasn't easy, let me tell ya. Christ, the poor girl was completely overwhelmed and totally shell-shocked. If I'd had my med-kit with me I'd of tranked her (For those of you not lucky enough to have needed the services of a field medic it means I'd slip her an shot of Don't-give-a-shit juice and tranquilize her.) but I didn't and as my daddy always said, "Wish in one hand, and shit in the other and guess which one fills up...

Mayhem 3 Double Trouble Triple TeamedChapter 6

-Tampa- Brad glided into the parking area outside Grace's apartment complex and thumbed off the power. As much as he loved his bike it wasn't the first time he regretted not having one of the older IC-powered two-wheelers. His baby was a blast to ride but the almost silent hydrogen-fueled power cell just wasn't the same as one of the older piston-banging throbbers. He'd heard rumors that someone was going to introduce a replica of the old Harley-Davidson line using a...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 29 Unexpected Opportunities

His smile was wide as he made his way down the hall to his room. He heard his mother showering and going through her processes for bed. His dad just gave a halfhearted hello as he walked past their bedroom door. His dad was busy watching TV. Tim turned on the overhead light as he entered his room and immediately closed and locked the door. He quickly blew a kiss to Cindy on the wall, sat down at the desk, and was taking off his shoes when his mom knocked. Tim unlocked the door. “Hey, I...

MayhemChapter 4

I didn't stay long at the party ― it was their party, not mine ― and hiked back up to the flying bridge. I sat there for a while and burned one while thoughts flew through my head. What had I gotten myself in for? Was it more than a little flirting? (Okay, I knew it was more than just flirting, but how much more?) The only thing I knew for sure was that I didn't want it to stop no matter where it led. The weather guessers were right about the front coming in, for once. By 0100 it was...

MayhemChapter 8

Top came back a little over an hour later grinning like a mad fiend at the same time Weird surfaced from his daze. "The East Bay warehouses," Top announced triumphantly. "That checks," Weird nodded. "The first tracker on her limo stopped transmitting about midnight, just about the time she was supposed to have left the party. The second one didn't stop until they got right here." He placed his finger on a map of the Bay area. It was an area just west of East Bay. At one time there...

MayhemChapter 9

We couldn't tell how closely they had been watching Tink's house or even if they were so we didn't head straight there. I'm sure it would have been safe enough but I didn't want to take even the small chance of getting into a firefight. Besides I had no desire to see Cynthia right then and Tink didn't want to go back home just yet. Tink did call her to briefly say she was okay and would be home soon. Luckily I had to only hear half of that conversation. "I'm fine, Mom," Tink said...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 4

- Daniel- Okay, I knew the Xanadu was big but until you look down at it from a few thousand meters you can't really know just how fucking big it really is! Sure I know the specs and you can look them up yourself if you want to: 1,450 meters in length, 524 meters wide, displaces about 180,000 tonnes and carries up to 20,000 passengers with a crew of almost 3,000. That's not a ship, it's a small floating island! We got a good look at it as we flew out to meet it on the shuttle. Of course...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 5

-Sumalee- I was happier than I probably should have been when Daniel walked into my lounge again the next day and sat down at the bar. I could not tell you exactly why I was happy he had returned but I was. I mean ... looking at him through unbiased eyes he is not particularly handsome, other than in an everyman, rugged sort of way. But he was nice and listened, laughed at my silly jokes and seemed to be enjoying talking to me for a reason other than just a ploy to separate me from my...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 7

-Sumalee- It was still dark when I woke up that first night although I could see a little in the dimness from the small amount of moonlight shining in through the window. I rubbed my cheek on the warm surface I was sprawled on and smiled when I was rewarded by the scratchy roughness of Daniel's chest hairs. I hadn't moved a centimeter from where I had fallen asleep and neither had he. I was still face down on his chest as he lay on his back. He was not snoring but I could hear and feel the...

-Mr. Black- "Do you have the vest made up?" Black asked as Green frowned at him. "Yeah, sort of," Green replied. Before Black could ask the obvious question he continued. "The gel is setting up and will be ready at the same time everything else is. It'll go off; no problem. No, the problem is the detonator; actually the remote activator for the detonator. This wasn't exactly in the mission plans so we didn't bring that kind of equipment with us. I was able to adapt an old raghead...

-Sumalee- To say it had been an interesting evening would be an understatement. The relationship Daniel has with his team would make for a lifetime study by any clinical psychologist. We met two more of them that night: the brothers Stanley and Samuel. Their reaction to Lidia and myself was fascinating. It was almost like they had known us as long as Michelle, Brian and Nathan; almost like they had shared memories. As I said, fascinating, exciting and just a little intimidating. Not that...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 33 A Man of Wealth and Taste

A Man of Wealth and Taste Raymond Murphy had trouble keeping the smile off his face. His son Tim was going on and on about how cool it was being on the sidelines for the varsity football win against the Clark Cougars. The first half of football featured an unsure Roosevelt team going up against a Clark team who, though good, was not up to their usual standards and was going to have a down year. Roosevelt was not expected to make the playoffs. “I’m telling you, Dad, Frank Robinson looked...

Leonard Huffnagle was having a lot of trouble looking for dirt on Tim Murphy from San Antonio Roosevelt High School. The only tangible thing he was able to confirm was that Tim had gifted the Trojan iPad, given by Coach Andrew Thomas of IMG Academy, to his little sister, Carmen. IMG was known for recruiting the best high school football players from across the country and giving them highly specialized coaching to better prepare them for college football. Kids graduating from IMG often...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 45 Proper Motivation

Rodney Valentine’s throat was sore from his screaming. His knuckles were scratched and bruised from pounding on that poor, unsuspecting asshole who didn’t know any better. Rodney was especially pissed because no one could figure out why he was so pissed off in the first place. Valentine and his posse of teammates arrived at the house party a little bit later than everyone else, as usual. It was an unwritten rule that the host of the party would have the game highlights from that weekend’s...

A Messy Situation Once Tim Murphy closed his bedroom door and turned on the bedroom lamp, he blew a quick kiss to his one-and-only Cindy, taped up on the wall, and collapsed on the bed with the biggest smile of his life. Tim was quietly reliving what had happened to him after the game. The quiet knock on the bedroom door alerted him to the here and now. The...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 63 Is It Better To Be Lucky or Good

Tim Murphy and the nanites in his body had already written the two reports – one for his English class and the other for his US History class. It was just a matter of typing and formatting the report in the proper sets. All in all, the two assignments only took a few minutes to type, save, and email to their respective teachers. When he sent his English paper, he had a flash of remembrance of his short relationship with his English teacher, Julianne Holmes, considered one of the hot teachers...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 64 Itrsquos Just a Party What Could Happen

The week of practice started with a few announcements from Big John on Monday morning. Big John had canceled morning practice with a sign written on the giant dry erase board along the long wall in the locker room. He didn’t cancel all practice, but it would be just no helmets or pads. That meant a full hour of lifting weights rather than working out on the practice fields in full pads – a day off for sure. Before practice would have typically begun, the Roosevelt football teams met in the...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 69 Sounds Good to Me

Going into downtown San Antonio for evening dinner was rare for the Murphy family. Of course, they went out to dinner occasionally but not very far from their neighborhood. Raymond had ordered the women in his life to a day of indulgence at their favorite beauty spa to get pampered and eventually have their makeup done. While the womenfolk were enjoying their day of pampering, the men folk went to fill a glaring hole in the younger Murphy man’s life: the lack of a nice suit. Tim had never...

As they did so often, the Murphy family sang along with the music on the radio. The Murphy parents both enjoyed all genres and encouraged their children to listen to all types of music. Juanita had her favorites and listened to them with the specialized music channels through the cable provider. She preferred the popular hits from the 1980s and 1990s, while Raymond also preferred that and rock music from the 1970s. The patriarch of the family steered into a parking lot nearby the...

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 4

The next day was moving day. I've heard how being out on tour with an entertainer can seem a little like riding a tornado without a safety belt but you couldn't tell that by me. I've heard how some tours play twenty cities in twenty days but that isn't how things are done in Ireland. Time seems less important and venues aren't always open when you want them to be. We were doing 25 shows in three months and that included a two-week break in the middle to "relax." Not exactly an arduous...

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 5

The next few weeks were just plain work. It probably seems like touring with a popular band would be great fun and endless adventure but mostly it was a lot like combat: endless hours of boredom interrupted by moments of shear terror. Well, terror is probably a bit of an overstatement, maybe agitation and concern would be more appropriate. Anytime the girls were heading into a large crowd there was a concern; happily we hadn't had anything like the clusterfuck we'd seen in Clonakilty but...

A by product of time travel that no one knew about was the momentary blindness and nausea brought on from the rapid assault to your senses immediately after travel. But for some reason only on your return. When he re-materialized in the time travel chamber, Tim Murphy needed to shield his eyes from the suddenly ultra bright lights. He also needed to make a concerted effort to control his nausea. Nausea controlled and his sensitivity to light diminishing, Tim decided it was time to see how...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 5 At the Hospital

The drive to the hospital was uneventful and easy enough. Tim’s mother, Juanita, parked the family SUV in a General’s parking spot, right outside the front entrance to the emergency room. Tim’s father, Raymond, who was standing just inside the ER doors, knew from the frantic sound of his wife’s voice on the phone that she would not obey the parking rules and would take the first available space she found. Raymond quickly reached the SUV before Juanita could turn off the engine. He stuck his...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 6 An Unexpected Debut

Summer two-a-day practices are a rite of passage for the Texas high school football player. The players arrived at their new high school, two weeks before the start of the new school year. Sure, they were only going to the football locker room, the football practice fields and also the weight room; but the psychological advantage of being able to GO to high school, earlier, was a definite positive feeling for the young soon to be high schooler. Freshmen did not have their own cars ... yet....

The lights turned on in the cell at half past six, every morning since Tim got back from his trip to the past. About a week after returning from the past, his nanites confirmed his hypothesis that no one he had met, yet, had any nanites of their own. Tim theorized to himself the interrogators did not have any nanite improvements since they constantly made mistakes in their questioning and also in their answers to his questions. Oh, they answered the questions as he believed they would but...

Afraid of being shown they were not good enough to make it on the freshman football team. Afraid they were good enough to make it on the freshman football team. Afraid of the high school girls. With the day’s drama complete after finishing with their equipment, they began leaving the locker area to try and enjoy their final day of relaxation before the two-a-days started. Tim and his friends crossed a very busy Walzem Road, right in front of the high school. Walzem Road’s three lanes headed northeast and three lanes going southwest were divided by a median island running the length of the high school. Once beyond the high school, the divider island changed into a turning lane....

First day of school for both Murphy kids saw a return of a family tradition: Mom fixed a full breakfast for everyone. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, fruits and all kinds of baked goods. She generally cooks for the family, then the mothers from the neighborhood carpool come and enjoy a wonderful meal at their own pace. The newly-instituted procedure of sleep deprivation was annoying at worst because the nanites in his system could effectively turn off the pupils of Tim Murphy’s eyes and keep the lights from waking him. The same could be done for his hearing. The nanites would disable his hearing so any loud or annoying auditory stimuli would eventually be deemed ineffective. At the moment, Tim was quietly reveling in this private joke. The guards were pumping loud and annoying sounds, usually called music,...
