A good hundred or so young men full of testosterone and desperate to show they were not afraid, were indeed afraid. Afraid of not fitting in. Afraid of being shown they were not good enough to make it on the freshman football team. Afraid they were good enough to make it on the freshman football team. Afraid of the high school girls. Afraid of the high school guys. Afraid of the work their new teachers were preparing to pile on them. Afraid they would not be able to finish the work their new teachers were going to pile on them.

Pretty much all hundred or so of the soon to be ninth grade boys were congregating outside of the school’s auditorium because that is where the introductory letter from their new coaches told them to be, three weeks before the first day of school. So at ten o’clock on a Monday morning, three weeks before the first day of school, all prospective members of the freshman football team were meeting their coaches and each other for the first time.

“Dude, this is kinda freaky. I mean I know the fellas from our team at Krueger, last year; but I also recognize some of these guys as the assholes from Ed White. It is totally strange to think we are all now on the same side,” Johnnie said while still looking around at everyone walking toward the auditorium.

He was walking side by side with Tim while Tony, Jeff and Mark were following right behind from the locker room to the auditorium. There were several head nods of recognition, and a few sneers, as former enemies began to adjust to the idea of now being teammates.

“Well don’t worry about it. I’m sure they are all whispering to each other ‘Ooh, that’s Johnnie Boynes. I wonder what the hell happened to him over the summer. He used to be a good player, now I bet he has trouble even putting on his shoes in the morning without sweating.’”

The three guys behind started giggling as Johnnie finally reasoned what Tim said and tried to push him hard into the wall lockers lining the hallway toward the auditorium. Johnnie actually could not believe it after he actually pushed Tim really hard and Tim did not move an inch out of the way.

“All right, girls, get inside and find yourself a seat up front,” Coach Alvarez said while waving the boys into the auditorium. “You guys ready to start playing, yet?”

Coach Alvarez was asking the group he had gotten to know over the last couple of weeks, since they came three times a week to help each other work out. Actually, they all went to get help from Tim while working out. Coach Alvarez has secretly told each of them it would be in their best interests to have Tim set a goal for lifting and working out for each one, and then work with him to hit that goal.

“Yessir, Coach! We are ready to start kicking ass, taking names and putting them in alphabetical order!” Johnnie said at a little higher than speech volume.

“Well, good. First we find out who has the sacks to actually play, then we make sure you know how.”

Coach Alvarez smiled as he patted each player on the shoulder. Coach knew that if it wasn’t for Tim, he would be working mainly with these four since they seemed to have the best attitudes and from early scouting reports, via the middle school coaches these four had the best shots to become good to great high school football players. But Tim Murphy was in a class all on his own. He could not wait to get Tim out on the practice field and to confirm the reports they were getting as to his athletic prowess or finding out it was all a bunch of bull. He hoped the reports were true, but was wary of such glowing accolades even before seeing him on a field for himself.

“Well, come on, ladies, get inside so we can get started.”

Walking down the main aisle of the school’s auditorium, the first thing you notice is the rich dark wood paneling of the walls, and the transition onto the stage. The stage curtain was a deep red with the ever-present ‘TR’ insignia in blue bordered in white right in the middle. It lined up perfectly with the aisle we were walking down to reach a seat. Guys were quickly filling up the front rows, not seat to seat but always leaving a seat or two empty between themselves.

At the end of the aisle at the first seat of the first row stood Coach Barrett armed with a clipboard and welcoming guys as they took a seat. Tim chose a seat next to Johnnie and the other guys took seats behind them.

“Hurry up, ladies, we don’t have all day now,” Coach Barrett used that louder than normal but not quite a yell voice which immediately garnered attention from the new football players.

“Okay, shut your traps. Gossiping time is over. Listen up.” Coach Barrett continued with the coach volume to reach everyone in the auditorium. A couple of other coaches took seats in the last row stage right. The side door to the auditorium clicked shut.

“For those of you I have not met yet, my name is Coach Barrett. I am the head freshman football coach and I will be coaching backs, receivers and corners,” he said then pointed his clipboard to his left. “And this is Coach Alvarez. He will be coaching all offensive and defensive lineman as well as linebackers. If you don’t know what position you will be playing, don’t worry we will find a place for you. Now let’s go over a few quick rules. On the first day of class, you will receive a Code of Conduct handbook from the school. Follow those rules. For the next two weeks, we will be trying to get you in shape to play Rough Rider football. When school begins, we will then be able to start teaching you how to play Rough Rider football. For these next two weeks, you will not like us. But that is okay, because we will not like you either. Let’s get this straight! When we sent out the invitations to come here today, for orientation, we suggested you get yourself acclimated to the weather. In San Antonio during this time of year, we will be practicing in hundred degree weather, and we will not take it easy on you.”

Coach Barrett pulled two sheets of paper from the clipboard then placed it on the empty seat in front of him. Reading from the first sheet, “Ed White Eagles win district championship with a 14 – 13 win over the Krueger Falcons, correcting an early season loss.”

Several of the former Ed White players cheered and congratulated each other. There were even a few disparaging remarks made by the former Eagle to the former Falcons. Coach Barrett waited out the showboating and when everyone’s attention focused on him again. He raised the sheet of paper over his head and tore it to shreds allowing several pieces to fall to the ground around him.

“Screw that! That MIDDLE SCHOOL nonsense is over! You are all now ROOSEVELT ROUGH RIDERS! No more Eagles! No more Falcons! Just ROUGH RIDERS!”

Tim couldn’t stop himself, stood and offered a returning and deep resonating “HA-OOH!” Johnnie Boynes apparently feeling the same way as Tim and sitting right next to him also stood up and yelled what would become his personal battle cry “YEAAAAAAAH BOYEEEEEE!” Tony Parker, Jeff Green and Mark Mazzurana while not as creative also let out shouts of agreement. The agreements quickly spread throughout the room as peer pressure tends to work its ways especially among already scared young men getting their first tastes of what high school athletics could be all about. Clapping and self-congratulating continued for a minute when the extra coaches made their way down to the front rows with the freshman football coaches.

Everyone settled back in their seats and quieted down and when the last couple of voices actually continued, Coach Barrett let loose a couple of bursts from the whistle around his neck. Not full blast but enough to get attention.

“Good I’m glad to hear we put that behind us and are now ready for other stuff we need to talk about. First of all, a couple more introductions right quick, this is Coach Fontana. He is the head varsity football coach, and the athletic director for the entire school. That means he is the boss for all Rough Rider athletics. He has a couple of words of encouragement for you, today.”

Coach Fontana stepped up in front of the rows and saw eager eyes staring back at him.

“Men, first of all, welcome to Roosevelt and welcome to high school. If you act like an adult, we will treat you like an adult. If you start acting like spoiled brats, we will treat you like spoiled little brats. Now positions on the football field are not given ... they are earned! You work hard and you get opportunities to advance. I’ll tell you all this right now, I have not even had a chance to tell this to Coach Barrett, since you guys got over here before I could tell him ... so, listen up! I just got off a conference call with the other AD’s in our district. They all have agreed to field two separate freshman football teams. The ‘A’ teams are the starters with a single backup player at each position. The ‘B’ teams are made up of the rest of the players in freshman football. This is done so everyone has an opportunity to play. If you practice everyday and keep your grades up ... then, yes, you will play at the end of the week.”

The applause was strong once again and took a few moments before winding down. Coach Fontana held his hand up motioning for the players to settle down.

“Yes, that’s good news! So, everyone work hard, and you will succeed!”

The applause kicked back up and Coach Fontana walked to the door he came through and both he and the other coach left.

While the head coach left out the side door, both freshman football coaches rolled their eyes at each other. They both knew the little story he just told these players was completely made up. Every year each school fields two teams. Coach Fontana had been lobbying the other athletic directors for the last few years to eliminate not only the two team freshman football system, but to actually cancel freshman football entirely!

His reason was he wanted to turn the first year football program into a hardcore exercise class; then force players who wanted to play varsity football to first go through an entire year of football conditioning at the high school level. He intended to not let them play a single down until they were ready for junior varsity football. Basically, no freshman football games just practices all year long. Luckily the other athletic directors were against this idea, citing it would be too difficult to keep the freshmen taking all that abuse, without any kind of payoff.

Every coach knows even with the two team system in freshman football, many very good players quit because of the discipline demanded by the coaches and teammates. Not to mention the regular school work got a lot harder to deal with. If you did not have at least a seventy percent grade in every class, you did not get to play until the grades were up to that mark. That was enough, often, to drive away young men with potential to play football. No Pass No Play was what the Texas Education Agency named in a new policy in 1984 where students must pass all their school courses with a grade of 70% or above, to be allowed to participate in any extracurricular activities such as athletics, band, orchestra or even the choir.

The majority of schools set their own guidelines where the numbers were skewed depending on the coach’s needs. If the football teams’ star running back had a grade of 60% in a math class, the coach ignored the grade and allowed him to play. With No Pass No Play, the student would be benched until the grade was back up to at least a 70%.

Some students just can not balance keeping their grades high enough to keep playing, and improving enough to actually play.

“Alright get one of these schedules for the next two weeks. Two-a-day practices start tomorrow. Make sure you get one before you leave today, or you will be in the wrong place at the wrong time. That will make it that much harder to get a starting spot on either team,” Coach Barrett announced. “Now let’s get over to the locker room, and get your equipment assigned to you. Move it on out, ladies.”

Tim and the other players made their way down the halls from the auditorium to the football locker room. To reach the locker room, everyone needed to pass by the school cafeteria, which was now serving as the practice area for the school dance team, the Patriots. These girls consider themselves the cream of the crop at Roosevelt high. The girls took a few minutes to examine the new meat entering their high school.

“Whoa, talk about not ready for prime time. These boys need a bit of cooking before they are ready to walk side by side with us.”

Several giggles confirmed Cindy Diefendorf’s place as queen of the girls who considered themselves the best that Roosevelt had to offer. Cindy, a senior and the captain of the Patriot’s dance squad was currently dating the soon to be starting quarterback for the varsity football team Troy Williams.

Cindy started setting everything in place for her ascension to the top of the pyramid of the Roosevelt elite after last year’s football season ended. The QB was a senior and moving onto college. She found out who was probably going to be the starting quarterback, and started placing clues for him to start dating her. She easily got Troy’s interest and she was able to claim him and thus got herself to the top of next year’s hierarchy. Once she let it be known she might be interested in dating him, Cindy used her feminine wiles and above average looks to ensnare her prey. The blonde haired, brown eyed Cindy was five foot six inches tall with a classic hourglass figure featuring 32DD natural breasts, keeping Troy’s interest was simple enough.

Cindy’s rise to the top of the Patriots was a fore gone conclusion, since she was hands down the best dancer of the group. Her election to Captain was never in question. Now Cindy was dating the presumed starting QB during the summer, and was the leader of the popular girls clique in high school. Cindy Diefendorf was the queen of Roosevelt High School!

While Cindy already had her place cemented among the Roosevelt elite, she still kept her senses open to what was happening between the insignificant peons below her. Just in case she needed to smack down another girl who threatened her reign as queen. Right now, with a break in their dance practices, Cindy and some of the other Patriots were busy looking over the new freshman footballers to see if there were any choice pieces of beef to keep their eyes on. The quick inhales and expressions of disbelief from her hangers-on caught Cindy’s attention. She was daydreaming about when she first had to perform oral sex on the starting offensive line when she was a freshman and not really paying attention to the current crop of freshman football players.

“Who is that?”

“Gawd, look at his body!”

“Wow, look at that smile! It’s, like ... almost perfect.”

“Holy crap, look at the bulge in front he’s packing!” With that last comment you can rest assured, every pair of eyes in the cafeteria suddenly panned down as they watched Tim walk down the hall. He was absentmindedly talking to Johnnie when his nanites alerted him to something he had absolutely no way to answer.

“A large group of females are focusing heavily on you and your companions from behind the mirrored windows at your left before the turn off to the locker room. Would you like to see,” appeared at the bottom of his periphery. Caught slightly off guard by the nanites warning, Tim said a quick yes and covered it up with a fake cough to keep everyone none the wiser.

“Affirmative.” A brief pause. “End of message.”

Suddenly, Tim could see the gaggle of sweaty and obviously excited dance squad watching him and the other guys as they walked down the hallway. A small smile appeared on his face as he looked at the girls. They noticed that he was now watching them, but the girls knew at this time of day the sun reflected off the windows, and made it impossible to see into the cafeteria until about three in the afternoon. That was why they always worked out their new dance moves in there, so no one could see them before they were perfected. This caused a few of the girls to retreat from the windows, as they were not made up to entice boys. But a few including Cindy Diefendorf stayed their ground and continued watching the future varsity football players as they continued onto their locker room.

Tim made no other indication to show anyone he could see into the cafeteria. No one would believe him, anyway, so he decided to continue on with the others to get he new equipment squared away and ready for the next day to start practicing. The thought of practicing for the first time got him away from thinking about the sweaty girls, and back to thinking about finally playing football.

“Did you see that guy? He looked like he should be in college or maybe even in a fashion magazine or something.”

“I’ll bet there isn’t an ounce of fat on his body. I, of course, am willing to find out ... and you, girls know, of course.”

The girls were now giggling ‘of course’ and a few more rather bawdy suggestions about what they would do to Tim if they ever got the chance.

Even the team sponsor had seen the young man walking by and had the same dirty thoughts run across her mind. Patricia Townsend was a former cheerleader at University of North Texas finishing with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics, and also deciding on a whim to get her teaching certification. She is also now twenty-six years old, as after college, she decided to see what would happen with her love of dancing. She worked as an accountant in Dallas, and used her love of dancing to become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. For a couple of years, that was her life; but, with a rising feeling of homesickness and after a couple of failed relationships, Patricia decided it was time to come home to San Antonio.

She was working at Roosevelt as an Algebra teacher for two years, when the long time Patriots team sponsor announced she was ready to retire, and wanted to give up coaching the Patriots team. Patricia was a Patriot since her sophomore year, and became captain her senior year. The now retiring sponsor, of course remembered. It was quickly arranged and the torch was passed down to a former team captain.

Mayhem in a PillChapter 65 Party All the Time

“Damn, man,” Frank Robinson fumed as he slammed his right hand and forearm on the roof of the Ford Explorer. “Why the fuck did you do that, man?” Tim was about to slide into the passenger seat but stopped himself and stood back up to look at the driver and captain of the defensive side of the school’s varsity football team. “What are you talking about? I got a map to the real party right here,” Tim answered, a bit confused by his friends’ change in attitude. “Dude, never. Never. Never....

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 15

I woke up to a pair of black eyes staring into mine only centimeters away. "I must be in heaven," I whispered. "Well," Leanne replied with a slight grin on her lips. "Ah will say of all the first words ya could have when returning from the dead those certainly saved yer arse a stern talking to." "I love you," I whispered again. "I wanted to say that before they..." "Enough," she said placing a finger lightly over my lips. "We know and that's enough." Her fingers moved up to...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 30 Friday Night Lights on a Saturday

The congratulatory pats on the back and raucous shaking from the freshman football team still in the locker room were easily heard outside the locker room where many parents and fans were waiting for the player-of-the-game to come out. Tim finished transferring his stuff from the freshman locker area into the JV locker room. Johnnie and the rest of Tim’s friends were sitting around waiting for him so they could make an appearance at the Sombrero Rosa’s across the street where many of the...

-Brad & Patricia- "Well there you are," Pat said happily when she opened the door. "We were wondering when you'd show up. You're a day late and we started worrying." "Sorry," Brad said looking embarrassed. "One of my other families was having a little problem and it took me longer than I expected. Hopefully you haven't run out of anything because of my screw-up." "It wasn't a screw-up if you were helping someone," Pat admonished. "We have plenty; we just worried about...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 59 Catch 22

“So, you didn’t see anyone when you got out of the restroom?” Raymond asked his son while the two were in the front yard doing a final rinse of all the paint splashed on the family car. “No, sir. I opened the door and looked both ways, but no one was there, and a few minutes later, when I left the locker room, I also didn’t see anyone,” Tim answered but paused before continuing. “Now that I think about it, Dad. I didn’t even see the guys leave the restroom. I didn’t hear any rumors about...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 62 Finally A Challenge

The coin flip at the start of the game was interesting. The Churchill Chargers sent their entire offensive line to the fifty-yard line to meet the captains for the Roosevelt Rough Riders. The five young men were not precisely marching, but it looked as if they walked in perfect step with each other. It wasn’t with the same timing as a military march, but the center would take action, then the guards on either side would step, followed by the tackles on the outside. It was almost...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 71 Gotta Getaway

“Cálmate, my friend. Cálmate. Please calm down, señor. They’ll call soon,” Jose Martinez, the soft-spoken but firm right-hand of Uncle Justin Jensen said, attempting to soothe the uneasiness of his boss and friend. Whenever Jose got nervous, his speech tended to break into a combination of Spanish and English. Justin Jensen, the long-time proprietor of several popular ‘prepper’ websites and numerous other anti-government leaning businesses, was second-guessing his decision to send two men to...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 16 Who Doesnt Like Mondays

There was something different in the locker room the following Monday morning before practice. Tim could almost feel it in the air as he entered. The normal early birds were already getting ready for first-period practice and, as usual, Tim was the first freshman to arrive. He was not alone for long, though. Others would begin arriving in a few minutes. After gathering his locker basket and changing into his workout shirt and shorts, Tim heard the main door to the locker room slam against...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 10

-Daniel- Waking up in a hospital isn't exactly new to me unfortunately but waking up in one with a dark-haired angel curled up by my side sure was. If you have to wake up in a place like that I heartily recommend it. I was flat on my stomach with Sumalee snuggled in next to me. They must have given me some pain meds because I didn't feel anything but if they'd laid me face down there was probably a reason so I wasn't about to roll over. However the fact that they let someone in here with...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 57 Glitter Gets Everywhere

Monday morning, the change in the emotions of the student body was palpable. While the student body usually disregarded the results of the football team’s accomplishments, school pride was evident this day. Not only was their happiness of the win over Judson wafting strongly through the halls, but the following weekend was also Homecoming. This year, the Roosevelt Rough Riders were facing the Robert E. Lee Volunteers. The student body was already making plans for celebrating the next win over...

Haven't they figured out you can't get blood from a stone? We already live in government housing. What the hell else do they think they can take away from us? “Hey, Hunk! How’s your day going so far?” Cindy Diefendorf, the buxom blonde ‘Queen of the School,’ asked while Tim switched books for his next classes. The mood in the locker room was euphoric. A true party atmosphere. The coaches usually spent a few minutes outside of the locker room during halftime of a game, to give the team leaders time to go over the play of their teammates. Then the coaches would come in and tell them what they saw during the first half, and then together, they would try to correct problems and plan for what to do in the second half. These were all severe concentration and serious work times for the game, even if the...

Monday morning. Tim could feel something in the air was ‘off’ as soon as he walked into the locker room. It was deathly quiet. Tim expected the spirits of his fellow football players to be high after the last weekend of Roosevelt football success. I didn't stay long at the party ― it was their party, not mine ― and hiked back up to the flying bridge. I sat there for a while and burned one while thoughts flew through my head. What had I gotten myself in for? Was it more than a little flirting? (Okay, I knew it was more than just flirting, but how much more?) The only thing I knew for sure was that I didn't want it to stop no matter where it led. The weather guessers were right about the front coming in, for once. By 0100 it was...

We couldn't tell how closely they had been watching Tink's house or even if they were so we didn't head straight there. I'm sure it would have been safe enough but I didn't want to take even the small chance of getting into a firefight. Besides I had no desire to see Cynthia right then and Tink didn't want to go back home just yet. Tink did call her to briefly say she was okay and would be home soon. Luckily I had to only hear half of that conversation. "I'm fine, Mom," Tink said...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 4

- Daniel- Okay, I knew the Xanadu was big but until you look down at it from a few thousand meters you can't really know just how fucking big it really is! Sure I know the specs and you can look them up yourself if you want to: 1,450 meters in length, 524 meters wide, displaces about 180,000 tonnes and carries up to 20,000 passengers with a crew of almost 3,000. That's not a ship, it's a small floating island! We got a good look at it as we flew out to meet it on the shuttle. Of course...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 5

-Sumalee- I was happier than I probably should have been when Daniel walked into my lounge again the next day and sat down at the bar. I could not tell you exactly why I was happy he had returned but I was. I mean ... looking at him through unbiased eyes he is not particularly handsome, other than in an everyman, rugged sort of way. But he was nice and listened, laughed at my silly jokes and seemed to be enjoying talking to me for a reason other than just a ploy to separate me from my...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 7

-Sumalee- It was still dark when I woke up that first night although I could see a little in the dimness from the small amount of moonlight shining in through the window. I rubbed my cheek on the warm surface I was sprawled on and smiled when I was rewarded by the scratchy roughness of Daniel's chest hairs. I hadn't moved a centimeter from where I had fallen asleep and neither had he. I was still face down on his chest as he lay on his back. He was not snoring but I could hear and feel the...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 8

-Mr. Black- "Do you have the vest made up?" Black asked as Green frowned at him. "Yeah, sort of," Green replied. Before Black could ask the obvious question he continued. "The gel is setting up and will be ready at the same time everything else is. It'll go off; no problem. No, the problem is the detonator; actually the remote activator for the detonator. This wasn't exactly in the mission plans so we didn't bring that kind of equipment with us. I was able to adapt an old raghead...

Mayhem 2 Sea CruiseChapter 15

-Sumalee- To say it had been an interesting evening would be an understatement. The relationship Daniel has with his team would make for a lifetime study by any clinical psychologist. We met two more of them that night: the brothers Stanley and Samuel. Their reaction to Lidia and myself was fascinating. It was almost like they had known us as long as Michelle, Brian and Nathan; almost like they had shared memories. As I said, fascinating, exciting and just a little intimidating. Not that...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 33 A Man of Wealth and Taste

A Man of Wealth and Taste Raymond Murphy had trouble keeping the smile off his face. His son Tim was going on and on about how cool it was being on the sidelines for the varsity football win against the Clark Cougars. The first half of football featured an unsure Roosevelt team going up against a Clark team who, though good, was not up to their usual standards and was going to have a down year. Roosevelt was not expected to make the playoffs. “I’m telling you, Dad, Frank Robinson looked...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 39 Control Alt Delete

Leonard Huffnagle was having a lot of trouble looking for dirt on Tim Murphy from San Antonio Roosevelt High School. The only tangible thing he was able to confirm was that Tim had gifted the Trojan iPad, given by Coach Andrew Thomas of IMG Academy, to his little sister, Carmen. IMG was known for recruiting the best high school football players from across the country and giving them highly specialized coaching to better prepare them for college football. Kids graduating from IMG often...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 45 Proper Motivation

Rodney Valentine’s throat was sore from his screaming. His knuckles were scratched and bruised from pounding on that poor, unsuspecting asshole who didn’t know any better. Rodney was especially pissed because no one could figure out why he was so pissed off in the first place. Valentine and his posse of teammates arrived at the house party a little bit later than everyone else, as usual. It was an unwritten rule that the host of the party would have the game highlights from that weekend’s...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 49 Onyx

Tim, Troy, Rob, Frank, and Jeff were quiet most of the way on the drive to the address included with their multi-colored cards found in their lockers after the beating the Rough Riders had given to the Johnson Jaguars. The five young men crammed into Jeff’s GTO were mostly quiet, daydreaming about the story Troy had told them. “I think I know what this is. You guys feel like having an experience?” Troy asked with a strange, tilted smile. “My dad told me a story that he said I could never...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 51 A Messy Situation

A Messy Situation Once Tim Murphy closed his bedroom door and turned on the bedroom lamp, he blew a quick kiss to his one-and-only Cindy, taped up on the wall, and collapsed on the bed with the biggest smile of his life. Tim was quietly reliving what had happened to him after the game. When he laughed to himself, he realized he didn’t even think about the game when the great time he had that night ran through his mind. The quiet knock on the bedroom door alerted him to the here and now. The...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 63 Is It Better To Be Lucky or Good

Tim Murphy and the nanites in his body had already written the two reports – one for his English class and the other for his US History class. It was just a matter of typing and formatting the report in the proper sets. All in all, the two assignments only took a few minutes to type, save, and email to their respective teachers. When he sent his English paper, he had a flash of remembrance of his short relationship with his English teacher, Julianne Holmes, considered one of the hot teachers...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 64 Itrsquos Just a Party What Could Happen

The week of practice started with a few announcements from Big John on Monday morning. Big John had canceled morning practice with a sign written on the giant dry erase board along the long wall in the locker room. He didn’t cancel all practice, but it would be just no helmets or pads. That meant a full hour of lifting weights rather than working out on the practice fields in full pads – a day off for sure. Before practice would have typically begun, the Roosevelt football teams met in the...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 69 Sounds Good to Me

Going into downtown San Antonio for evening dinner was rare for the Murphy family. Of course, they went out to dinner occasionally but not very far from their neighborhood. Raymond had ordered the women in his life to a day of indulgence at their favorite beauty spa to get pampered and eventually have their makeup done. While the womenfolk were enjoying their day of pampering, the men folk went to fill a glaring hole in the younger Murphy man’s life: the lack of a nice suit. Tim had never...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 70 Dinner and a Show

As they did so often, the Murphy family sang along with the music on the radio. The Murphy parents both enjoyed all genres and encouraged their children to listen to all types of music. Juanita had her favorites and listened to them with the specialized music channels through the cable provider. She preferred the popular hits from the 1980s and 1990s, while Raymond also preferred that and rock music from the 1970s. The patriarch of the family steered into a parking lot nearby the...

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 4

The next day was moving day. I've heard how being out on tour with an entertainer can seem a little like riding a tornado without a safety belt but you couldn't tell that by me. I've heard how some tours play twenty cities in twenty days but that isn't how things are done in Ireland. Time seems less important and venues aren't always open when you want them to be. We were doing 25 shows in three months and that included a two-week break in the middle to "relax." Not exactly an arduous...

Mayhem 4 Irish MistChapter 5

The next few weeks were just plain work. It probably seems like touring with a popular band would be great fun and endless adventure but mostly it was a lot like combat: endless hours of boredom interrupted by moments of shear terror. Well, terror is probably a bit of an overstatement, maybe agitation and concern would be more appropriate. Anytime the girls were heading into a large crowd there was a concern; happily we hadn't had anything like the clusterfuck we'd seen in Clonakilty but...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 10 Lets Get It Started

With the day’s drama complete after finishing with their equipment, they began leaving the locker area to try and enjoy their final day of relaxation before the two-a-days started. Tim and his friends crossed a very busy Walzem Road, right in front of the high school. Walzem Road’s three lanes headed northeast and three lanes going southwest were divided by a median island running the length of the high school. Once beyond the high school, the divider island changed into a turning lane....

No Ordinary LoveChapter 9 You Gotta Start Somewhere

It took me two months to find a job but, when I did, it was worth it. Getting there was another matter. I had sent out at least twenty résumés, each containing a picture and my educational background. Amazingly, my former employer had written a letter of recommendation, even though I didn't ask for one. When I talked to him on that Monday he was very understanding, telling me that politics wasn't for the faint-hearted. He might have added ethical but didn't. I was called in for six...

Gotta Go Right Now

There has been a commercial on television for some pill that will control your bladder. It has this stupid little jingle that I can’t get out of my head because my teenage daughter sings it every time that she has to pee. “Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right now!” Cassandra is almost fifteen years old. She is as cute as any of her girlfriends are. She has brown hair that hangs to her breasts in the front. She is just about perfect. However once every couple of months or so she seems to...

Mayhem Room 69

Feb 12, 2011 10:24 Am You were supposed to have checked out of the hotel by 11 am. The bags were packed but you had needs that must be tended to before leaving. A long flight awaited you at the airport and knowing you couldn't stand to be this horny all the way home you decided to take matters into your own hands one more time before leaving. I had been given the key to your room from the hotel manger. This was a room that was scheduled for remodeling and my contracting firm was putting in a...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 3 Back to the Future

A by product of time travel that no one knew about was the momentary blindness and nausea brought on from the rapid assault to your senses immediately after travel. But for some reason only on your return. When he re-materialized in the time travel chamber, Tim Murphy needed to shield his eyes from the suddenly ultra bright lights. He also needed to make a concerted effort to control his nausea. Nausea controlled and his sensitivity to light diminishing, Tim decided it was time to see how...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 5 At the Hospital

The drive to the hospital was uneventful and easy enough. Tim’s mother, Juanita, parked the family SUV in a General’s parking spot, right outside the front entrance to the emergency room. Tim’s father, Raymond, who was standing just inside the ER doors, knew from the frantic sound of his wife’s voice on the phone that she would not obey the parking rules and would take the first available space she found. Raymond quickly reached the SUV before Juanita could turn off the engine. He stuck his...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 6 An Unexpected Debut

Summer two-a-day practices are a rite of passage for the Texas high school football player. The players arrived at their new high school, two weeks before the start of the new school year. Sure, they were only going to the football locker room, the football practice fields and also the weight room; but the psychological advantage of being able to GO to high school, earlier, was a definite positive feeling for the young soon to be high schooler. Freshmen did not have their own cars ... yet....

To say Tim was excited, would be a major understatement. “It was sooo cool, Mom,” Tim was almost jumping up and down in the front seat of the SUV while his mother was driving them home. “I was sitting there reading, and the librarian came up to me. I didn’t even hear her, as I was paying attention to what I was reading. She actually scared me when she touched my shoulder to get my attention. Standing with her was Coach Barrett, her husband. He’d come all the way to the library to just meet...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 8 Doubting the Future

The lights turned on in the cell at half past six, every morning since Tim got back from his trip to the past. About a week after returning from the past, his nanites confirmed his hypothesis that no one he had met, yet, had any nanites of their own. Tim theorized to himself the interrogators did not have any nanite improvements since they constantly made mistakes in their questioning and also in their answers to his questions. Oh, they answered the questions as he believed they would but...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 11 Patience Fades

The tacos were just great. Tim was still not doing anything to jeopardize the loss of the twice-a-week breakfast tacos treats. George was still bringing in the savory, artery-clogging breakfast tacos from everyone's favorite family restaurant. In fact, George was now adding an extra taco, since he understood the body's instant response once it smelled one of Yolanda's tacos. Whether breakfast tacos dripping in the grease of the Mexican sausage and fluffy egg combination, or the...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 12 A Day of Firsts

First day of school for both Murphy kids saw a return of a family tradition: Mom fixed a full breakfast for everyone. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, fruits and all kinds of baked goods. She generally cooks for the family, then the mothers from the neighborhood carpool come and enjoy a wonderful meal at their own pace. There were usually a few empty bottles of wine in the trash when the kids returned home from the first day of school. Rumor has it the same carpoolers also got together toward...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 13 A Fine Mess

“Hey, Joe, what do you mean the freshmen offense knows fourteen plays already? I thought Big John only wanted the freshmen to concentrate on getting in shape, until at least the first scrimmage,” Kevin Krebsback, the JV and Varsity defensive backs coach asked, once the freshmen left the coaches office for second period. “It’s exactly what I said it was, Kevin,” Coach Alvarez said. As he sat back down at his desk, he saw he had everyone’s attention, including Coach Barrett. The freshman...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 14 Frustration Creates Opportunities

"I know you guys are keeping the pain receptors turned off during my questioning, but are there any problems with maintaining the status quo? I ask because I am starting to feel some of the pain," Tim whispered to himself while he held a pillow over his own face in a mock effort to fall asleep. "All efforts to minimize, and even counteract, the effects of the enhanced interrogation techniques are within their limits, and all nanites are performing at optimum levels. If you are, in fact,...

"So, how was the first day for you?" Tim's father, Raymond, was sitting on the desk chair while his son was finishing his first journal entry for his honors U.S. History class. "It was pretty good, Dad. You were right about the girls. Everywhere I went, I started seeing more and more girls looking at me and then looking away if I made eye contact with them. I'm not used to the attention, but so far it isn't bad." Raymond was practically bursting with pride. His son who, just a...

Mayhem in a PillChapter 18 Enough is Enough

The newly-instituted procedure of sleep deprivation was annoying at worst because the nanites in his system could effectively turn off the pupils of Tim Murphy’s eyes and keep the lights from waking him. The same could be done for his hearing. The nanites would disable his hearing so any loud or annoying auditory stimuli would eventually be deemed ineffective. At the moment, Tim was quietly reveling in this private joke. The guards were pumping loud and annoying sounds, usually called music,...
