American Man At War

For five days now, David had been pouring over the mountain of photos, newspaper cuttings, terse reports from field agents and God knows what else. It seemed to make no overall sense. His neck ached and he yearned for a coffee like a drowning man strains for the surface. But this was war-torn England — even the tea was made from tea-leaves reused several times.
Sally entered the room. "Now Colonel" lectured the perky WREN, "You need to get up and walk around a bit — can't have you getting all stuffy like these older gents, can we?" David knew better than to respond to her rhetorical question. Sally ran the AISO like Genghis Khan led the Mongols — with ruthless efficiency. While very pretty — she was the reason someone had coined the phrase 'beauty is only skin deep'! As David meekly stood up and walked around the cramped office — he thought pityingly of the Henry who was engaged to the dragon — for that was her nickname among the men of AISO.
Henry was in fear of her — and rightly so, because she had decided that he was just the right man to marry. The fact that he had never proposed, that he avoided her at every opportunity had not fazed her, and she was busy in her spare time planning the wedding ceremony.
David made his way down a narrow corridor to the tea-room. This was a small room not much bigger than a closet. But it had the makings for tea and a tin of cookies — biscuits the English called them. Strange name for cookies though, David mused. While the kettle boiled, David stuck his head into a room only slightly bigger than the tea-room. "Any of you 'chaps' up for a cuppa?"
Dr. Howard got up. "Good idea — I'll join you for a drink"
Back in the tea-room David poured two mugs of tea, and dribbled a little condensed milk into Mike's. "Any progress David?" asked Michael as he picked up his mug and took a cautious sip.
"I wish" groaned David, "I just don't know what to look for."
"Don't worry about it David. I'm sure you will find what you need. Oh, and by the way, congratulations on being the top of your class at West Point," smiled Michael.
"Now Mike, this is one time I know you have your facts wrong! I came eighth."
"True you came eighth — but let's see. Five brother officers are dead in the wars you have fought and the other two are rotting in some military prison according to last weeks Washington Post."
"What? Who?" David was dumbfounded. He knew his class mates from the academy were as loyal as he was. "Generals Deevers and Albright. They were found guilty of treason says the Post."
"Damn Dewey to hell!" ranted David. He's gotta go! He's destroying all our country holds dear and sacred!" He slammed his mug down on the bench. "John Deevers and Graham Albright are two of my country's most loyal soldiers. There is not a devious bone in their bodies." Taking a deep breath, he turned to Michael, "Look Mike, I'm sorry you saw that, but hell! I am so fired up now I gotta get back to work."
Davis sat back down at the table fuming. He felt so cut off from what was happening. Stuck in war ravaged London — the world of US Politics seemed slightly unreal and laughable. But at least two of his Year were now in prison for treason. And he knew that Dewey's special prosecutors were breathing down Ike's neck
As he stewed over events which were out of his control, his gaze returned once again the picture of Dusko Popov — which he had pinned to the wall. Dusko code named "tricycle". According to AISO he was never a British agent, though they had made use of him. He face was so familiar to David. He had seen him on the front pages of Newspapers and in Movie News reels. It was his damning testimony that had brought down Roosevelt. He had codes and dates and names — supposedly from British intelligence — though they had always denied it. And they continued too! Which made Dusko's information very suspect.
Roosevelt's argument, that a man was innocent until proven guilty, had not held much weight against the virtual flood of damning evidence — that he had known about Pearl Harbour before it happened. The 1944 election come and he lost in a landslide. And the man who had revealed all this to the Republican convention and started the ball rolling — Dewey was now President seeking a second term.
Something about the photo began to stir David's curiosity. Dusko was seated at a table in some restaurant with a number of other men. They all looked rather happy — evidenced by the bottles of wine on the table. Getting up he moved to the wall and examined the photo carefully. Unpinning it, he turned it over. On the back was the name of the restaurant, the date - 19th May 1941 and some initials.
Not taking his eyes from the photo he called out. "Hey Croup!"
"You called" answered Croup as he entered the room.
"What can you tell me about this photo?" queried David as he passed across the picture of Dusko
"Well lets see..." Turning it over and reading the notes on the back Croup hummed and haa'd. "It was taken by one of our sources. We have certain connections with independent er,,, photo journalists. Umm, and they take photos of people of interest which they then sell on to us."
"And the person of interest in this photo is Dusko Popov?" prompted David.
"Well, yes ... among others" admitted Croup.
"And they would be... ?????"
Croup looked up at stared at David in surprise. "You mean you don't know who the gentleman sitting to the left of Popov is?" He sounded credulous.
David nearly snatched the photo from Croup's hand. He knew there was something about the photo. He started to get excited. He stared intently, but for the life of him, he couldn't make the connection. Coup waited patiently. David sighed, "I give in! Now 'fess up — who is the man to Dusko's left."
"So who is it?" demanded David.
Croup said, "I'll give you a hint. The photo was taken at a little restaurant in Little Italy in New York. An Italian — or more precisely - Sicilian eating establishment." Slowly the light dawned and David began to hope. "The gentleman to Popov's left is Salvatore Luciano ... Better known as..."

I suddenly had trouble breathing and my vision fogged up as waves of powerfully strong emotions crashed over me. Through the tears welling up in my eyes I reread the message several times to make sure that it was real. J'Una alive? Could it really be? Where the fuck was Tatooine anyway? I was so overcome that I became somewhat giddy and I think I even jumped up and down a little. Not what you'd expect from a veteran Imperial TIE fighter pilot, but there it is. I must have made more noise...

The Heads of State gathered in the general assembly taking seats that would normally have been occupied by their Ambassadors. No one seated there truly knew what to expect today. All they knew was that the countries which had been at war with the Jade Empire had signed contracts that obligated them to certain specific actions on this day. The reason that the Heads of State had displaced their Ambassadors was simple. The Jade Empire lived and died by the contract. No one wanted anything to...
A secret romance between a Chinese sex slave and her Japanese master during World War IINote by Jennifer Suzuki: She was a petite, elegantly dressed Japanese woman in her later twenties. We had met over lunch. Me and my white boyfriend; she and her white boyfriend. She looked elegant, but her dress was conservative and plain, without any urban panache and yet radiant with modesty and intelligence. Her boyfriend was much taller than she was, overbearing, muscular, with crew cut dark brown...
It's finally done! The next part of my Witch Chronicles series. It's the largest part to date, almost twice as large as Part 9, the previous record holder. It's also closing in on the end. There'll be two more parts. Part 12 will cover the end of the war. Part 13 will be an aftermath, answering questions that weren't covered in previous installments with information the government doesn't have access to. The previous installments of this story line are republished under the...

A bully is someone who pushes around someone weaker to take their lunch money or just to inflict pain in retaliation for some perceived insult. The school bully does not intend for his victim to become his personal slave, just that his victim fears him. The modern world has a rather odd vision of what it means to make war – war is just a form of bullying that involves nations rather than individuals. War has become a means of intimidation. There is this assumption that at the end of war,...

In 1941 Russia comprised a fifth of the worlds land surface, but its main cities and industrial centres all lay to the west of the Volga, and it was this portion of the world Hitler hungered to take during the summer. During a ferocious German invasion the mass of the Red Army was quickly knocked to pieces in a series of colossal annihilation battles which cost it a million casualties, and by September four million more Soviet troops were slowly starving to death in miserable captivity....
David grew stronger and began to ride around the crater on Zeus. He met up with Martin one day out in the Crater at one off the cattle paddocks. Martin was inspecting some cattle inside off it. ‘Good day Martin, I’ve not seen them before have I?’ Martin spun round smiling, ‘Hello David, of course I haven’t told you have I’ he replied, ‘I brought them from England. Part of my father’s bequeathed, their French Limousine cattle, he left me a bull and six cows. Their hardy cattle with a good...
CIVIL WAR 1861 TO 1875 The opening salvos of the American Civil War sounded no less ominous to the American Indian Tribes than it did to the men who were destined to fight for the Union or the Confederacy. Tens of thousands of Indian warriors served on both sides of the American Civil War for reasons related more to their own Tribal concerns than in similar beliefs in tune with one side or the other. Some of the Indian tribes were economically dependent on the practice of slaveholding and...
*** PROLOGUE This is a historical, but fictional story of the sea war that was fought between the Royal Navy and the U Boats during the period 1940 to 1942, the action is staged at the time when the U Boats were sinking British and allied shipping with little resistance. The story also refers to DEMS {Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships) which was the arming of merchant ships, usually with outdated guns from the first world war and manned by volunteer RN ratings which did a great job, at great...
Erotic FictionThe War of 1812 This chapter is devoted to a very short and nasty war which lasted only two years and eight months that involved many of the American Indian Tribes despite their past experiences which should have warned them about not getting involved in wars that could only hurt their own cause of retaining their tribal lands. If one were to search for the primary singular cause of the War of 1812 the only possible reason would be that the British Empire was still smarting from the defeat...
The man was bleeding heavily from his thigh. The arrow had seared and torn through the chainmail that was wrapped around his leg. Blood had begun to seep through the inter-linked chainmails and into the grass as the man fought with all his strength, dragging the injured limb along as he made his way into the nearby forestry. "Just a bit further, before I get caught by these Yorkist dogs!" The man shouted in a final effort to motivate himself. If he was caught he would be tortured until he told...

InterracialFr?ulein Dietz was inconsolable for days about the fire that had gutted the library, but no look of suspicion settled on Willy Fr?hlich. The cause was clear, she said. The electrical wiring in the building had not been renewed since it was installed at the turn of the century, and it was just one more reason why it was so important to have everything at Ravenskopf renovated. With no more of Professor Dietz's notes to write up, Willy was assigned as Celina's personal assistant and s...
There I sat shifting through the many piles of papers lying on my desk and wishing I were somewhere else. It was truly amazing how many reports passed through my hands to be filed or used to type up other reports. I knew that at least half of them would reach Judge Jasper's desk, where he would study them for a few minutes then put them in his out box to be filed by you know who. What surprised me was how much information Judge Jasper remembered. He would quote me numbers on the...

In a move that has shocked the political world at large; the governments of Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have concluded and signed a treaty of mutual non-aggression. The released statements of many world leaders has ranged across the spectrum, from ones of rejoicing that the prospects of another great war in Europe has been avoided, to others who unofficially are seeking more information or are involved in a series of ‘intense discussions’ with allied...
THE PERIOD POST-WAR OF 1812 TO BEGINNING OF THE CIVIL WAR IN 1861 This chapter will be primarily focused on the Seminole Wars which were also known as the "Florida Wars". The rise of the Seminole Indian Tribe took place over a period of almost two hundred years and was greatly influenced by the encroachment of the European settlers into the area now known as Florida. The Seminoles were comprised of a number of remnants of other Indian Tribes that had escaped from the ravages of European...
January 30, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “There goes the luckiest man in Iraq,” General Norman Schwarzkopf said as he played a video of a laser-guided bomb destroying a bridge just after a vehicle had crossed it. “Damn!” Elyse exclaimed. “Those videos are amazing, but it’s making this war too much like a damned video game,” I groused. “The damned country is already too ‘gung ho’ for this war as it is.” “But you want us to win, Snuggle Bear.” “Once it started, my only concern is our men and...
“As I see it today, Hitler and Goebbels were in fact molded by the mob itself, guided by its yearnings and its daydreams. Of course, Goebbels and Hitler knew how to penetrate through to the instincts of their audiences; but in the deeper sense they derived their whole existence from these audiences. Certainly the masses roared to the beat set by Hitler’s and Goebbels’ baton; yet they were not the true conductors. The mob determined the theme. To compensate for misery, insecurity,...
Chapter 37 The Crater settled into a routine, the months passed into years. Susan gave birth to a son christened Guy Ramage. Martin and Jill had a daughter the same year, Barbara. Sulkie and Tana had foals, and Zeus was trained to the saddle. By the start of 1899 there were over 260 horses and foals out in the crater, and over 300 cattle and calves. People from the surrounding area would come to buy horses or cattle, mainly the Jersey’s for their own dairy needs. Susan had started a...
The summer air swept clouds of thick black smoke through the grassy hills. In West Virginia, the air was hot and polluted enough already. His eyes stung, watering as he turned away from the fire. Pulling out a bandana, he spit before covering his mouth. Another crop was lost to rival looters, the third one this week. They'd taken as much corn and soy as they could before setting the bare fields ablaze. We have been at War for over 5 years now, with no signs of it ending anytime soon. He had...

Love Stories1875 TO 1885 The primary focus of this chapter will be the famous "Battle of the Little Bighorn" or perhaps better known as "Custer's Last Stand". This battle is probably the most studied confrontation between the American Indian Tribes and the European settlers of the New World. It comes at a time that is almost at the very end of our 400 year timeline and the handwriting is already on the wall about the outcome to the conflict between the American Indian Tribes and the European...
THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WARS 1763 The Final Battle of Detroit and Defeat of Chief Pontiac (Author's Note) Before starting this final chapter of the segment of Part II that relates to the French and Indian Wars, I wanted to clarify some of the confusion about the Treaty of Paris 1763 which formally ended the French and Indian Wars. The first source of confusion is that there were two Treaties of Paris. The first one was called the Treaty of Paris 1763 and it formally ended the French and...
A country can win every battle, but lose the war. One would think that when that happens, there is also a country that has lost every battle while still winning the war, but that isn’t actually the case. When a losing army pulls out, the victors may celebrate the moment, but the real work has only begun. One has to rebuild what had been destroyed, and there is always destruction. In the modern context of war, winning and losing is a rather uncertain concept. Has the mission been...
American Ladyboy By Cassandra Morgan No matter where in the world you are, no matter languages are being spoken around you, calculus is boring, it seems they teach the subject so people will know how to torture spies. And so, half a globe away, Benjy Hawkins sat in his math class with his head resting on his arms, which were folded over his desk. The teacher droned on, his lilting accent punctuating his speech. The subject, and the speech, was more than Benjy could bear on a...
"Looking at the moon?" Tom Soames did his best to ignore Michel, his pick-up for that night, who was sitting cross-legged on the bed. The small room was stuffy after their earlier heated encounter, and he stayed in the chair near his workbench, fiddling with electrical components and contentedly gazing out of the window. "No, the moon isn't up yet, its still daylight outside," he replied, "I'm just thinking. I have things to do. Plans to make." "Are you thinking of that girl you...
During a rather dull cocktail party in Inra, Ambassador Julliard took a sip of his tonic water while listening to Ambassador Lorenz, the representative from Espa, vent concerning the demands the Jade Empire was making upon it. Espa, like his country of Franka, was not going to surrender to the Jade Empire. Ambassador Lorenz said, “That whole affair in Engle is a disgrace. King Leopold shouldn’t have surrendered. Engle has lost all credibility as a world power.” “Let’s not be too hasty in...
-Chapters five and six will deal with the period of struggle between the American Indian Tribes and the European Settlers in the geographic confines of the thirteen original colonies during the period of their establishment beginning in the 1600s and up until the start of the French and Indian Wars in the mid-1700s. In the order of their establishment, the English settlements were: (1607) Virginia was the first colony established in the new American Colonies. It was founded by John Smith...

July 21, 1994 Colonel Naff stood atop a building watching the action below. The first battalion had just jumped into a fake urban area used in making a television show. The set was complete with buildings, although they were just shells. They were now in the process of taking control of the area. One of the problems facing paratroopers is that when they jump into a war zone they are doing so with limited supplies. There isn’t a convoy of supply trucks lumbering along behind them with heavy...
Aella held the bow and arrow in her hand steadily. She knew these forests better than anyone else because of her time fighting the Macedonians, and now she lay in wait in the thick underbrush as the night hid her slim figure in its darkness. “General Aella,” Stavros, her advisor, had said to her earlier in the day. “Everything is ready now. The men have been briefed, and your spies have returned confirming the news you had received last week. There will be an attack tonight, and we will be...

Dear Caroline, We miss you here a lot. It'll be funny going back to school without you. I mean, you were still here a year ago and then you were gone. Thank you for your letter. I'm glad you like where you're living. Okay, now I have to tell you something incredible, but you have to promise to believe me. It's all true, okay? Then when you're done you'd better throw this letter away. Tear it up first though. Here goes. Well, you know how boring things get by the end of the summer and...
The alleged accident that killed General Patton at the end of World War Two was a terrible awakening to the American people that suddenly they had lost the most outspoken critic of the Soviet Union and the dictator Joseph Stalin taking the place of Hitler and his Nazi goons as the primary threat to continuing peace in Europe. He had plenty of critics for his outstanding views on politics and the world around us but he was one hell of a combat commander and inspired deep loyalty in his...
May 27, 1993 Dr. Wilfred Tanguma did not look like a professor of history bundled up in heavy winter clothes. He was sitting on a folding chair that was half buried in the snow facing a half barrel in which a small fire burned. He was leaning forward with his hands over the flame trying to keep warm. It was bitterly cold. His childhood friend, Bertulfo ‘Bert’ Venzor, was seated next to him in much the same position. He had just delivered some very bad news. Bert said, “I don’t like it....
The estate was an impressive, imposing, and surprisingly large underground complex that filled a huge cavern, with a dim looking pseudo-sun in the centre. The cavern was so large Jason was sure the whole of Manhattan Island could fit in it with ease. They walked along the stone path that was lined with grey/brown foliage none of which Jason could recognize. The plants looked like a cactus with thick oddly shaped leaves and a conical stem that was about two feet tall. There were trees that...
The next two months, until the War of the Worlds, passed rather quickly for James. He spent most of his time training his combat and practising forging and alchemy. The incident with the mercenary army spread far and wide, and the tickets that had been bought up for the war of the world started to find their way onto the black market or disappeared from the hands of the smaller factions that had managed to nab one at auction. The two nations of Soel and Hastoel were starting to flare up even...
GUSTAV jumped to hyperspace, leaving the Death Star, Tarkin, Vader, and J'Una behind. We had embarked Admiral Haarkov and several members of his staff and were enroute to the Sepan system. The most difficult, and potentially frustrating, mission that any military organization can be assigned is one whose objective is not clear. The real purpose of any military, when you think about it, is twofold: 1)to kill people and break things when so directed, and 2)use the threat of force to keep...

My thanks to him for very graciously allowing me to use his characters from his moving and poignant story. By the way, ‘REMF’ is a Vietnam era term used to refer to a ‘Rear Echelon Mother Fucker’, someone...

“I am excited to be back here again. But I also did enjoy the weekend very much Jason. It was very relaxing on the estate and I was surprised how pleasant the Destroyer women are. They are much older than I expected and very experienced. “I don’t know how you managed to persuade Pleb to locate herself on Mars and manage her growing war academies colleges and universities from here,” said Ooryphyon. “Many from the Collective are very bored and I don’t think it was difficult to persuade her...
‘Hey Sarge, man, I gotta go,’ the sweet young PFC said with some urgency. Looking over at her from my station in the passenger seat of the deuce and a half, I asked politely as not to break any regulations, ‘Well sweet cheeks, do you need me to hold your hand? If you gotta go then I’d advise you stop the truck and go,’ ‘But… but there isn’t any privacy, where am I supposed to go?’ she asked holding her crotch. She couldn’t be fucking serious could she? ‘Look baby cakes, we’re in a combat...
It is very tempting to bury yourself in a single cause once you are in the White House. The stuff that lands on your desk is important, life and death matters in many cases, and you can spend every waking hour micromanaging pieces of the job. Obviously, war is the most important thing, and it is very tempting to put all your time in on this. Not all Presidents can keep from doing this. Roosevelt lined one of the downstairs rooms with maps, giving it the still current name of the Map Room,...
The dark shape that filled the far end of the only complete conference room on the pirate skyship oozed dread. Malevolence seemed to seep from every single pore of the shadowy form, and the darkness that filled the conference room, cast by harsh electric lights that were hung from the ceiling and walls by copper wires and cheap adhesive tape, was filled with evil. The man seated across from the dark shape seemed to be utterly unimpressed – an impressive feat for someone who appeared to be...
The American Indian Tribes in the American Revolution 1777 THE BATTLE OF SARATOGA (The Turning Point) In almost every conflict there comes a certain battle or a military move that than be described as "The Turning Point of the War". Of course this is often decided upon by the victors and not the losing side. It could be said that "Gettysburg" was the "turning point" of the American Civil War or that "Stalingrad" was the "turning point of eventual Nazi defeat. In the American...
July 31, 1994 Happy to be back in Misera, Colonel Naff paused to look around the tarmac. He was the last of the Misera soldier to step off of the plane. He was pleased to see his wife and kids waiting for him. There were a few little items to take care of before he could go over to see them. This had been the first combat deployment of the Misera Army to a location on another continent. The political types had wanted to make a big deal of it so there was a welcoming home ceremony. Both...
1783 – 1812 THE PERIOD POST AMERICAN REVOLUTION TO WAR OF 1812 It is entirely understandable that the beginning period of the new American Nation was filled with a sense of tentativeness as the governing authorities laid the framework of governance that would sustain the new Country for centuries to come. In the order of prioritization, the continuing conflict between the Native American Indian Tribes and the American Settlers was most likely far down on the list of "hot topics" to...
