Interstellar Defense LeagueChapter 2

Two Ghalerans walked down a sidewalk, heading towards a massive structure in the center of the Ghalera's primary city. The structure was the headquarters for the so-called Interstellar Defense League, a cover for a group of conquerors. Inside the headquarters was a prototype singularity generator, developed using stolen technology.
"So what precisely do we do when we find that generator?" one of the 'Ghalerans' asked to the other mentally.
"We initiate a micro-singularity and destroy this entire city," the male Ghaleran 'whispered' telepathically. "And before you say anything, I know it will kill millions, including a great many civilians. But do you see the Interstellar Defense League continuing its assault with their capitol in ruins, their leadership slaughtered? They were willing to kill off the entire population of the Earth if you remem-"
"Did you hear me arguing?" the female Ghaleran responded. "I know it has to be done, Preliator. But can we do it?"
Preliator gave an awkward smile... everything he did felt awkward while has was transformed to look like a Ghaleran. "If we could survive the explosion I created by detonating those singularities, we can sure as hell finish this mission."
They were soon at the rear security checkpoint to the headquarters facility, and then through it; with one scan of Preliator's body, they confirmed his false identification as a Warrior. After all, no one besides trusted Warriors possessed Omni-energy, right?
"That almost seemed too easy," Preliator muttered as he switched into a human form outside the entrance to the singularity lab. "I would think there would be a lot more security in a facility such as this."
Auctorita concentrated for a few moments, telepathically probing the cavern of a room contained behind the access doors they stood in front of. She shifted into a human form as well, sighing as she did so.
"Preliator," she moaned, "there are four Warriors in there. No wonder they weren't concerned about security; that room features adequate protection against even a battle-hardened invasion force."
Preliator leaned against a wall. "I can probably comfortably beat one Warrior, maybe two. Four? That is most definitely pushing it. Still, I have to try. Auctorita, you're going to have to stay here."
"But-"
"No buts," Preliator said loudly, cutting her off. "I know you're a capable fighter, but we both know you wouldn't last very long against those Warriors. This is my battle, and if you get involved I might not be able to fight to my maximum capability for fear of injuring you. If you want to help me, go to another part of this facility and attack some security forces at random; keep them from sending all of their forces to this area. At least that way I'll stand half a chance at pulling this off. Hey, who knows... maybe later today we'll be together on the Pride of the Alliance, toasting to the end of the war."
Auctorita silently nodded and wiped a tear from the side of one of her eyes, then took off to provide a distraction. Neither one of them tried to say goodbye, because neither one of them was ready for goodbye.
"Here goes the most stupid stunt in the history of history," Preliator muttered, right before he launched himself into the singularity generator room, fully powered up and ready to fight.
He found himself standing on a massive catwalk hanging roughly ten stories over a large singularity generator, the walls and the ceilings forming massive blades- heat sinks to dissipate the tremendous amount of superheated air created by the singularity generator. Four Ghaleran Warriors stood on four platforms arranged in a diamond pattern around the catwalk, the aliens crouched low on their tri-pod bases. They had apparently been expecting him.
"Crap," Preliator muttered as four concentrated energy bursts closed on him from four angles. He could sense the additional four blasts already leaving the Warriors, headed for the area just above him. They were trying to make sure he had absolutely no way to run.
Preliator converted himself to his energy form and pressed himself against the catwalk, the energy bursts colliding above him and exploding with multiple cascading waves of energy. He slipped as quickly as possible underneath the catwalk, using the thick metal to shield himself from the bulk of the explosion.
"My turn," he whispered as he re-solidified, standing on the bottom of the catwalk. He concentrated for a moment and sent a surge of energy at the bottom of one of the platforms one of the Warriors stood on. The energy consumed the Warrior completely, liquefying his skin and charring his bones.
Preliator kicked off the bottom of the platform, launching himself down towards the singularity generator. He flipped in mid-air, landing on his feet in front of the control console for the generator.
"Auctorita," he thought towards her, hoping he would reach her through all of the telepathic shielding likely to be present in the facility, "now would be a great time for you to get the hell out of here. With any luck, I'll be right behind you."
The three Warriors smashed into the metal flooring behind Preliator, the three of them overlapping their energy to form a powerful protective field over them.
Preliator ignored them as he rapidly typed in override commands to initiate the release of a small singularity. The Ghalerans had been foolish enough to copy the control interface they had stolen from the Acer One, and thus the system proved to be quite easy for Preliator to manipulate.
Preliator sat down at the end of the conference table in the primary meeting room of the Acer One. About fifteen Liodammian delegates were already seated. "Okay," Preliator started, "no diplomatic niceties for now, if you don't mind. I need the facts, as this is highly... unexpected." The tallest Liodammian there smiled, evidently their leader. "We will endeavor to answer any and all questions you may possess." "Okay, to start off with... why were you planning on invading Earth? I...
The shuttle latched onto one of the docking ports of the Enterprise directly, other shuttles attaching themselves to other docking ports or to the shipyard. Ben and Emily were lost in the confusion as they exited the craft, at least two hundred people filling a hangar meant for maybe fifty. The entirety of Dragon squadron followed them as well, nobody having any idea of where they were supposed to go. They all stumbled through the bay, tripping over people, and occasionally being shoved out...
Ben walked into the mess hall, taking a seat in-between James and Ryan, directly across from Rebecca, Patricia and Steven. Noticing as he arranged his tray of mush beside that of his teammates that Rebecca's upper arm was heavily bandaged, he queried her as to what happened. "Nothing much," Rebecca said with a grimace, "just a G.E. that snuck up on me while I was blasting some missiles. The son of a bitch stabbed me through my bicep. Still hurts like hell, but that Ghaleran medical...
Ben did not have such a good time the next day, awoken at two o'clock in the morning by a bellowing klaxon that pounded its annoying sound into his ear. Red lights were flashing all around him, people scrambling into uniforms, and a general feel of chaos everywhere. He quickly jumped up from his bed, practically hopping into his uniform and armor. He ran at a full out sprint to reach the training area he was in yesterday, which also served as a gathering point for the base's several...
Ben's first sensation as consciousness began seeping into his brain was the confusing noise around him. Then the pain struck. He felt a very familiar sensation; the sensation of lava pouring through his veins from needles implanted all over him. His brain faintly registered that they must be giving him another energy infusion, right before all of his thoughts were drowned out by an earsplitting scream. It took him a few seconds to even realize that the noise was coming from his mouth. He...
The first ground unit of the Liodammian army came into view. It was most definitely not an encouraging sight. A massive three-legged machine was crushing the ground as it rumbled towards them. It stretched over a hundred and fifty meters into the air, and was escorted by four smaller one hundred meter tall machines. The squadron of assault drones all raised their arms in unison, a salvo of missiles flaming forth from their wrists, and racing at the I.D.L.'s defensive perimeter. The...
"We've received approval from both the Liodammians and the U.N.," Auctorita reported, "and the Liodammians have confirmed that they are going to bring all of their ships." Preliator nodded. "Very good. Coordinate with their fleet; the second we are ready, I want to initiate the fold drive. I don't want them to have time to prepare for us. If we hit them hard enough, maybe we can get them to sign a treaty that will end this damned war." Auctorita looked up from her console. "Sir,...
Ben woke up, only feeling a very faint pain over his body, like a bad case of muscle stiffness. He could at least move, but found his muscles were very tense- they had constantly been contracting and relaxing very quickly, in spasms, during the power implanting procedure. He rested another day before finally going to meet with their squad leader with the other two new Warriors that he had come with. "Well," their squad leader began, "Nice to meet you three. Let's see... Benjamin Powell,...
Ben braced himself against the corridor wall as he stood up, the floor attempting to shake him back down to his knees. He helped his sister get up, just as another salvo exploded onto the base shielding, nearly throwing them back down. "I've got to get to the hangar, Emily!" Ben hollered over the sound of explosions towards his sister. "I know, but I'm coming with you; the regulations and commanders can go straight to Hell if they don't like it!" she gripped onto his arm as they were...
Preliator's life and legacy had just begun anew. He awoke with a headache of an intensity matched only in pain by the experience of having Ghaleran Omni energy injected into him. He mentally corrected himself on that point however; he had never actually had the energy treatment. Nor had his true name ever been Benjamin Powell; it had always been Preliator Acer. Ben was just the name that his family had decided to call him in public, when they were around humans. Obviously the name Preliator...
Preliator was on the six guards before they had time to react. His hand flashed outwards, yanking a plasma rifle out of one of their arms. The massive gun looked like a child's toy compared to his enlarged body and hands, but it still worked just fine on the Ghalerans. He fired twice, two of the guards immediately crumpling to the floor. He pointed the gun at a third, their leader, but did not fire. "Drop your weapons," Preliator growled, "and the janitors in this place might not have to...
Preliator had a communications channel open to the Pride of the Alliance before anyone could blink twice. "This is Commodore Preliator Acer. Report your status!" He ordered. "Sir," Auctorita's voice said over the comm., "most of the fleet had already folded out of here when these guys showed up. It's just us and fourteen other Quevian cruisers. We are under attack by perhaps twelve Ghaleran vessels, but we have one problem; they seem to have singularity generators. One of our sister...
The quest for an interstellar drive has gone on since the 1940’s at least theoretically. An intergalactic drive was of course always assumed to be impossible. It was thought that even wormholes would, if even possible to use, only provide shortcuts within our own galaxy. Hyperspace, at least mathematically, has been proven to exist, but no has ever had any idea how to access it. Some people thought that achieving superluminal speed would do it and magically thrust you across the space...
Baker and Jaeger ran into the hangar where their ships were parked, quickly donning their flight suits and helmets as the Valbarans made their way over to their camouflaged lander. By the time the two humans were climbing into their cockpits and running their engine checks, the Valbaran spaceplane was already taxiing towards the runway. Jaeger taxied outside, his HUD flashing as it showed him the system status. The Beewolf hadn’t been refueled, but they had more than enough gas to get into...
A short story of one officer’s last battle and the aftermath. “The galaxy is a very unfriendly place.” I was remembering what my number one drill instructor, sergeant Crabs had said on my first day of basic training. You know what? He knew just what he was talking about. I have learned that the hard way over the last 10 years. You see I am Major Mike Miller, Sardonic space defense forces. And this is the story of my death. Well for all that is practical it was my death and then again in a way...
Not for the first time that day, or that week, Amy Imahara wondered how she'd gotten in this mess. As she looked over the command center staff, sitting tense and alert at their consoles, her mind was drawn back to the meeting with her husband's clone, and the rest of the Education Council. It had been Rebecca Lott who had made the offer. "Of the persons with military experience, you show the most aptitude for this assignment. Will you accept command of the planetary defense forces?"...
Chapter 8 - To Hold Strongly - It's probably a good idea to go back to Ohio, a chance to clear my thoughts, find out where I am, and lessen reminders of unpleasant things here in LA. I've had a wonderful time over these almost three years with Jillian, and in that time I've been able to put decent amount of money away as I've had few large expenses out here, my prescriptions being the most continuously expensive thing - which I will never give up! I won't be able to survive for a...
Corvino's Defense of Homosexuality By Cal Y. Pygia Note: While it is true that not all transvestites are gay, many profess to be. In any case, this essay is likely to be of interest to many, regardless of their sexual orientation, and to members of the wider gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community, many of whom have gay, lesbian, bisexual, and/or transgender friends themselves. In his essay, "Why Shouldn't Tommy and Jim Have Sex?," which appears in Contemporary Moral...
Zen and the Art of Self Defense Chapter 2 - Take Down I look around my little apartment and for a moment, I get a bit emotional. I do that sometimes in the oddest of moments, it seems, but I try to control it and only when I'm alone, like now. This place has been my home and retreat for almost a year now, my first real place since I left my family. It took a while to get it looking right, and I was really expecting to be here for at least another year or so. Life sure does have...
Part 3 - Way of Harmony Chapter 7 - Counter Technique The story so far - After setting up doctor and therapist appointments leading to sex-reassignment surgery, Chrissy traveles back to her home with Jillian in tow to come out to her mother and brother. She shows Jillian the sights of northwestern Ohio (of which there really aren't all that many), who then returns to L.A. after a week. For the following week, Chrissy and her mother get to know one another better, ending with...
The courtroom was abuzz with reporters and television crews, all hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous robotic family. Today was the day Sutton was going to put on his defense. Michael and Julie both would be key witnesses. They arrived at the courthouse about a half-hour before the trial was to start and everyone ferried into a conference room to prepare. "Julie, I'm going to put you on the stand first." Sutton told her. "We're going to go through a timeline at how you two met, and...
Zen and The Art of Self Defense Introduction This is another of my non-magical, non sci-fi, non-chemical(unproven or exotic) transformations. Just a lingering suspicion on the part of our hero/ine and the observant eye of an interested party. This time, no force is being used either, but some interesting encounters occur. Again, how people interact with others and face up to their own problems, their inner demons, that dark place they are often afraid to admit to, are the themes...
The following day, the first Sunday in April, Jason Schmidt went home. For him, home was not the house in Wisconsin, nor was it really his dorm room in Chicago. Instead home was a feeling, which he could only experience when he was with Cecilia. He desperately wanted to be with her, and anxiously counted the mile signs along the freeway as his father drove him south. Jason, as usual, took a ride from his father. He felt guilty about accepting a ride from a man he had betrayed, but he really...
Chapter 5 - Entanglement Once we are seated in the car and heading out, I finally take a breath as Jillian keeps up a non-stop barrage of comments. "You look absolutely adorable, Chrissy. So natural, nobody will ever know. They'll see the same attractive young woman I'm seeing right now. I really enjoy going out like this. We can talk and gossip and I can dish on the other cast members and the crew. I'm going to have to get you into the studio. I'll have to get you a pass, of...
Zone Defense, written as Gavin E. BlackChapter OneNathan Kent wasn't thrilled with the idea of completing his final year of college at a completely different institution from where he'd started, but the opportunity to join one of the top varsity football teams had been too much of a temptation to pass up. The truth of the matter, Nathan was glad to have an excuse to move away. His last relationship had ended badly, and the thought of having to play a defensive position in conjunction with his...
Gay MaleI must first apologize for the errors that troubled the first two chapters and hope some could get past them. At some point I will go back and revise them. I am happy to report that this chapter will hopefully meet expectations and not wound anyone’s eyes. Many thanks are in order to a one and only Estragon, who has stepped up and really helped this girl out in clearing more than a few nasty things and provided amazing amounts of insight to better this story. Thank you times a million for...
This love story has a long build-up before things get heated. Please be patient. I’ve always found that having a stronger sense of who the characters are makes for a more intimate experience when the fireworks finally happen. Enjoy. Dissertation Offense/Defense ‘This isn’t a good idea. Stop smiling, Sanjit. I really don’t think this is going to work. I could count on one hand the number of times that I’ve agreed with Ethan and on top of that, he’s a class-A jerk. Three years of classes,...
It wasn’t quite seven o’clock the next morning as Gabe made his way back to the practice field for the second time, only this time he held a clipboard. A day he would like to forget three years ago in Indianapolis took the breath from his lungs and pulled him from the game forever. In the second quarter against the Colts he was taken down by a bone crushing hit damaging his knee. As one surgery turned into three, for the sake of his body the hit caused an early retirement at the age of thirty...
You walk in a gym which is practically empty with the exception of a few instructors. When you signed up for self defense class, you didn’t realize that it was gonna be a one on one type situation. It doesn’t matter though, your still going through with this. You’ve had enough of the bullying and physical abuse people give you on a daily basis. To defend yourself your gonna need to learn. You walk in to the self defence class confident and ready to learn, but who are you?

The inmates were corralled to the cafeteria after a 15-minute period for hygiene. D’Clinton took a tray even though, he’d have a warm meal delivered a little bit later. Chapter 6 - Strangling Drop The story so far - Chrissy is now for all intents and purposes living as a woman fulltime and is on HRT. Her mother is in the hospital, and Chrissy is planning to have some initial surgical procedures and decides that visiting with her mother would be good for both to recuperate and for her to come out to her family. Aaron is still being a bit of a jerk; Chrissy has been dating Sammy as a dancing partner, becoming intimate with Jillian, and has practically...
Chapter 9 - Art of Gentleness Story so far - I can only imagine what Elizabeth wants as her voice was what I remembered to be its usual cool self on the phone, providing little to no emotion about why she wanted to get together. Maybe something has come up or maybe she just wants to catch up and see how I'm doing. Of course, I suppose she could also talk to Ron and find out a lot of what I am doing. I agree to have lunch with her the following week. Avery does ask about my...
Windroy Twelve Forrest Secondary School was just your average public high school. Well... on the outside, anyway. Although it was over a hundred years old, the school building looked very modern and was up-to-date in terms of school equipment and such. At present, it had over 50 classrooms and around 900 students. The computer-labs had the latest computer models and used the Linux OS. The gymnasium had the latest in training equipment and the library took up two floors. In the year 2XXX, it...
This is my take on a topic that had been done before. It is a quick read certain to contain some errors and a few won’t like the ending. Feel free to say what you will as that will only help my future writing. I hope you enjoy! The “Clinton Defense” My name is Dale Evans and I have been married to my wife Paula for 6 years. We met right out of college and I have to say it was love at first sight. Paula is a very attractive woman about 5’5, 120 lbs. Long brown hair and her brown eyes sparkle...
Mark The kidnapping attempt was a close call, the closest I’d ever had and with the most men involved. I was in my suite at the hotel, having just come back from dinner with the head of the large chemical company headquartered there. I heard a noise, and glanced at the source, one of my windows. I caught a glimpse of a rope dangling past the window and being jerked around. My instincts kicked in and I immediately shouted out the door of my suite into the hallway, “Security. In here,...
Barbara was in the pool. Like many others on the patio she wore only her monokini. She was doing laps, but at a near frantic pace that Dave had never seen someone attempt in their new, larger pool. He wondered if she were out to set some sort of speed record. Dave and several others watched the perfect strokes as they heard her vocalized gasps for air when her head turned from the water. Her turns deserved to be in the Olympics they were executed so perfectly and so rapidly. If ever there was...
I read the charter for their ‘club’. All the parents did and several of us met together. “I’m not happy,” Ken Harris said. “I wanted my daughter to have the same kind of happy marriage Claudia and I have. Husband, wife, children.” “This isn’t a marriage charter,” Rex said. “A sex club,” Ken continued. “I should have put my foot down when they were freshmen. I thought we were making them safe.” “So instead of having the same kind of happy marriage we have, she can have a different kind of...
Dave suddenly found himself eager to make any light shopping trip for anybody in the Circle. Despite the usual possibility of rainy weather when the workday ended, he rode his Harley to work unless the forecast was certain and pessimistic. He had Millie text him a shopping list of things she’d need the next day to make small repairs. The only constraint was that the total purchases had to fit in the motorcycle’s saddlebags. Also, each day, he had a different rider going into work and coming...
We’ve all got people that we can’t stand. It’s a universal thing. A part of the human condition. My name is Stephen Vladimir and this right here is the tale of a young black man who got revenge on his enemies for the abuses they visited upon him. It’s my story. How I rid myself of these parasites and got myself a better life. The end starts now, folks. My whole life, I’ve sought to improve myself. I always strove to be better. Learn something new. Do something positive. That’s the kind of man...
At the complex, Gabe paced quietly across the narrow hallways, waiting for Dr. Simmonds to update several of the coaches on the status of Fabian Velesquez. During the second practice of the day, he had been sprinting along the sideline and been tackled within seconds of catching the ball. All of the players, and especially the three coaches who stood near, heard the crunch as his body collided with a defenseman. Breath swept out of each of their mouths and drifted with the wind, their hearts...
Many thanks need to go out for this one. Estragon –Thank you doesn’t even do complete justice, however, for now– you know where you are thanked. You’ve taken yet another chapter on, and given insight—and good pointers! PennLady — Thank you for being so incredibly nice, and listening—er reading my fear of writing conflicts between characters. And opening the doors to a certain football team! EastCoastChickPA- There is not enough hours in a day for you! Gracias for your awesomeness. As...
Round four. Are you ready for some football? Red is my favorite color–I kid. Another huge round of thanks is in order to Estragon for looking over this chapter. Going two full pages without any edits, is cause for champagne! In all seriousness, you have been helping tremendously and I am very thankful. Enough jabbering. As always, comments/feedback/suggestions are always welcomed. **** The alarm intruded on his sleep on a Sunday morning in November. Barely moving, Gabe reached over to...
Samantha Morrison was running late. Which explained the loose strands that had fallen out of the clip at the base of her neck. All morning she had been trying to organize her classroom and get through training the teacher aid that would be helping her out through the upcoming school year. Unfortunately the assistant seemed much more interested on text messaging and snapping her gum than educating third graders, causing Samantha to dart around the classroom stapling and taping posters to the...
Getting into the house without being heard was easy, all Jerry had to do was go around back and open the basement door. He couldn’t go in the front, the alarm system he had installed at his wife Shelly’s insisting would go off. She had been a complete nut about that for some reason, bugging Jerry until he finally installed the system. Opening the garage door would have tripped it, too. The delay on the push button panel was set at 10 seconds because Shelly had asked him to set it that way. ...
You've recently received word that your great-uncle Steve has passed. You never knew the man, but you recall your father telling you that he was a bit of a nut-case. For some reason, he left his fairly sizable estate to you. You have elected for all of his assets to be liquidated, and for the proceeds to be directly deposited into your bank account. All this will require one more week to accomplish. You currently live in a remarkably insecure home. Your front door doesn't lock, and all of your...

Chapter 3 - Unexpected Reversal I am speechless as I try my hardest to understand exactly what she is asking, or maybe even telling me. After a moment of considering the implications, as my mind just races through everything, I finally get out, "You...you want me, to be a.a girl?" It's very difficult for me to accept that concept, from another person. Looking directly into my eyes, like she's trying to peer into my soul, she quietly and with a sincerity that goes beyond anything...
Part 2 - Freedom of Movement Chapter 4 - Center of Gravity You know, this really isn't the movies. In today's movies, as I dreamily awake, she would be dressing, saying she has to get to her job. We would couple for a moment as she eventually turns from me, and I would then drift in and out of sleep, savoring all the intimate moments of the past night where we had caressed and pleased each other to no end. Why that scenario? I should think it obvious, who was in what role last...
I used to not date fat chicks. I mean, they're fat, right? I was still in college, don't remember when, okay, I was living in the frat house so it was my second year. I lived in Billings Hall with the rest of the freshmen my first year, so yeah it was my second year. I remember we were having some kind of party, probably trying to rush a bunch of freshmen, and I needed to go make room for some more beer so I went back to my end of the house for the bathroom. There were girls hanging around,...
May 2004 That was the high point of the early spring. Gary Halston transferred over to Second Platoon, over in the Alamo, as a fire team leader. They had taken a few hits earlier on and needed a replacement for a buck sergeant who was sent home after getting shot up. The rule was that if you were promoted from Specialist to Corporal or Sergeant, or from Corporal to Sergeant, you had to transfer to a different platoon. Anything higher than that and you had to transfer to a different company....
Mark and Willow fell asleep watching television. Billy deployed his men and went to bed. One guard was assigned to watch the inner gate while another roamed through the house and out back. Lights went off inside and out, leaving only the fountain lights for exterior illumination. Amanda, Sam and Mike hammered out Mike's dialogue for his interviews. Dirk and Karl sat to one side, huddled over German ales while they discussed the problems of adequate lighting when doing the night...
The next morning, instead of going down to the main hall, I asked a servant to bring me something for breakfast. She also offered to have my clothes washed, to which I readily agreed. After I ate, I buckled myself into my borrowed leather armour, grabbed the practice sword, and headed down to the courtyard hoping to locate Wayne. He wasn't there, but a few of the guys I'd brawled with the day before were around, so after warming up a bit, we resumed practice. A couple of times the young...
"Answer the door and be careful," I told Bobby. It was Captain Woods. He stepped in and looked down at the naked pair on the floor. The fat one had recovered enough to sit up. He looked around dazed and grunted. "What the hell?" Captain Woods finally reached the point where he lost his cool. "You recognize this pair?" I asked. "What happened here?" he asked. "What in hell is going on?" He eyed the two FBI agents again and looked back and forth between Bobbie and me. He repeated,...
Wednesday January 11 Today was the last ‘official’ day of filming. The plan for the rest of the week was to complete on-location scenes. There were only a few B-roll sequences to finish—mostly wide landscape shots; no actors needed. My contract said I had to be here through Sunday in case we had to reshoot anything. They would spend the next few days deciding if they had everything they wanted in the can before everyone scattered. I’d just finished back-to-back scenes and wouldn’t be...
