The sound keeps ringing through my ears as the morning sun seeps through a hole in the blanket I use to cover my head. Reaching over to shut off the alarm clock, I find that my hand is just slightly out of reach. Therefore I have to I have to roll just enough to turn it off. The plan is simple and if executed properly would allow me maybe 5, possibly 10 extra minutes of sleep. However I manage to overestimate the roll and knock the alarm clock off of the end table. And in a desperate attempt to save it I manage to roll myself off the bed on the cold ground. The plan, foiled, and I will have to get up indefinitely.
Turning off the alarm and placing it on the end table, I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Long shaggy brown hair and what might be the most embarrassing excuse for stubble, I see myself Chris Jackson. To be fair, I ain't the worst looking person and at 6'2" I manage to pull off that tall but skinny look. And if there is one thing going for me, I at least got an 8 inch monster down there, even though it might as well be useless as it has never felt the touch of a woman.
Looking around the room, it would be hard to find a positive word for it. But I will just settle with cozy. My bed is full of tussled blankets, the floor contains some piles of clothes, which could honestly use some better organization. To the right I have a closet and a mirror, however I rarely use either since there's a mirror in the bathroom and the clothes in the closet belong to my sister as she wanted the extra space. In front of my bed next to the door I have my dresser which contains the clothes which do not occupy the floor. I grab a clean pair of pants from there and a t-shirt. and exit my room with the next stop being the bathroom.
In there I brush my teeth squeezing the last bit of toothpaste from the tube too do so, I also choose today to shave my face clearing that god awful stubble (maybe one day I can grow I nice beard). Looking at my face I see a confused 18 year old. My sisters say I have an attractive face with defined features, however since they're my sisters I feel they're obligated to say that. Instead I choose to believe the cold truth my mother tries to tell me, "I look like the ugly bastard the made me," her go-to answer to anytime I ask her who I look like. However when she is drunk or high her tone becomes less venomous in saying so. Finishing up shaving, I have three options for my hair; put it in a ponytail, slick it back and put on a hat, or shave it. I choose the hat, maybe my sister will find time to cut it later.
Leaving the bathroom, I decide to set my agenda for today. It was a Sunday so I didn't have to go to school however I needed to handle a few household issues. It was the first of the month, so bills we due for us. Luckily my eldest sister was a waitress saved up cash from tips to pay the mortgage and electric, she kept the money in an envelope under some clothes in her dress (In this house, we always learned to hide the money). My other older sister, had college through a scholarship and to save money lived at home, however due to her busy schedule she worked less and mostly temp work but she always came through on the water bill plus a little extra for food. She keeps her money in a coffee tin under her bed. Myself, I made money tutoring, and doing the odd job here or there, whether that be fixing cars, mowing lawns and a assortment of chores. My sisters decided it was best I didn't get a real job until after I finish high school this year, however I still tried to cover the gas bill and some rainy day funds. I keep my money under my mattress.
The question of what my mother covers is a loaded one. She used to work at a factory but broke her leg, something I'm assuming is due to gross incompetence. However she does receive disability payments (at least for the next few months) but none of that even when she worked really goes to the house. As the youngest I am delegated to take care of her in her time of need. Luckily she's asleep on the couch.
Grabbing all the money from mine and my sisters rooms, I find they had already left for today. I put on backpack, grab a water and head out the door. Closing it gently to avoid waking mom. Since it was so late I had to deliver the money directly to the companies instead of mailing all of which are conveniently in town albeit a bit of a walk, hence the backpack and some water. So the first stop was the bank.
