CHAPTER TWO
"Maddie, go clean up young lady, while I take care of a few things,"
Patricia instructed her daughter. Patricia watched as her little one,
not so little anymore..., a wedded bride to be..., got up from the bed,
straightening herself as she walked to her private bathroom. Maddie's
cute little butt swinging back and forth as she walked in stocking'd
feet. How she'd grown and taken to her new feminine role as Maddie
Rollins, an eighteen year old nymph! The girl walked as though she was
still wearing 4 inch stiletto heels when she was shoeless! Such a little

Patricia sat on Maddie's bed, reflecting on her memories of the two of
them and how it all began. She remembered how distraught she had been
the day she came home from shopping with her sister Tessa to find her
husband David in their bedroom. Coming home to a quiet house; Maddie,
then Michael was still at school, she brought in her packages and was
walking up the stairs to their bedroom to put them away when she heard
music playing softly. Had she left the radio playing when she left
earlier she thought? No, she didn't think she had, so David must have
come home from work sick or something. As she reached the top of the
stairs, she could hear the music was clearly coming from her bedroom.
"David, honey is that you?" She doubted it would be Michael home from
school in their bedroom listening to music as he was only 7 years old at
the time. It had to be her husband.
As Patricia rounded the top of the stairs and walked into their bedroom,
she was greeted with the horror of seeing her beloved husband David on
their bed with..., a woman..., a woman's... Dropping the packages, her
hands went to her mouth. Her body felt as though it was caving in on
her. As Patricia's knees went weak and her body began its decent to the
deep pile of the rug below her, the music became eerily distant and the
light around her faded. She dropped to the floor, hitting her head on
the edge of a squared planter near the door. Before Patricia's mind
signed out she noted the scent of lilac's filling their bedroom, the
scent of her favorite perfume, Garden Grove. Patricia had the perfume
special ordered from England at her sister's shop; Tessa's Boutique in
North Scottsdale. Why was the perfume still so strong in their bedroom,
when she had left home hours earlier she thought as she passed out.
Waking hours later in the hospital with a serious concussion, the memory
of her husband just before she passed out came flooding back to her. Her
eyes welled with tears immediately, her body began to tremble, and she
shrieked so loud that everyone hanging about the nurse's station down
the hall came running to her room! Along with the nurses was her sister
Tessa.
"Patricia." Tessa spoke her sister's name softly as she took her hand.
"I'm sorry Ms. Crawford, but we need to get in here and take a look at
your sister. Please wait outside a moment, and we'll come get you as
soon as we make sure she's ok." The young nurse spoke to Tessa as she
was escorting her out of Patricia's hospital room.
"But my sister, she needs me! Please, let me stay with her! I promise I
won't get in the way!" Tessa pleaded with the nurse.
"Please, Ms. Crawford. Let us do our jobs and make sure your sister is
ok. She has a severe concussion and had quite a shock when she found her
husband. As soon as she's stable I'll come and get you. I promise," the
nurse spoke softly but stern to Tessa as she reassured her with her hand
on Tessa's arm, rubbing her gently.
Tessa nodded, her own eyes welling with tears as she looked past the
nurse and into her little sister's room. "Yes, yes, I'm..., sorry.
Please let me know when I can see her. She's my little sister. When our
parents died I promised I'd look after her and make sure she'd be ok."
"Well don't you worry ma'am, she's in good hands and I'm sure she'll be
ok, except for a slight scar where she hit her head, but even that can
be fixed with a little plastic surgery these days. Now, just sit here
for a few minutes and try to relax." The nurse helped Tessa sit in a
chair in the waiting room just down the hall from Patricia's room.
A few moments later, the nurse returned, her name was Lisa and she
brought good news for Tessa. "Ms. Crawford, it's ok for you to see your
sister now. She was just overwhelmed with shock when she first awoke.
The poor dear, finding her husband like that when she came home..."
Nurse Lisa shook her head as she walked back to the nurse's station.
Tessa rushed her step back to her sister's room and entered. "Oh, God.
Patricia honey, are you alright now? I was so worried when I got the
call from Janice next door to you. I guess Michael came home from school
and found you on the floor bleeding and didn't even notice his dad on
the bed, when he ran out of the house and next door to Janice's;
screaming and crying that you were on the floor bleeding."
"Michael! Oh my god. Where is he Tessa? And David, is he....?" Patricia
couldn't say the word.
Tessa was standing next to the bed, holding her sister's hand and
brushing Patricia's bangs from her forehead, careful not to touch
bandages on her temple. "Honey, don't worry about Michael, he's still
with Janice. She'll take good care of him.
Looking up at Tessa, Patricia's eyes were pleading as she began to utter
the word she dreaded saying... "Sis, is David..., is he..., dead?"
Patricia's emotions welled over in eruption as she burst into tears, her
body shaking terribly.
"Oh honey," Tessa bent and took her younger sister in her arms, holding
her, caressing her back as Patricia cried on her shoulder. "Yes,
sweetheart, David is gone. When the police responded they tried to
revive him but it was just too late, he'd already passed."
Patricia cried into Tessa's shoulder till there were no more tears to
cry.
