If I happen to have some inconsistencies there please alert me. Chapter 6 Ouch! First blood spilled. I woke up in bed in that inn we decided to stay over night yesterday. Someone must have put me there. This means it didn't work for them. Meditation failed or at least one of them was unable to meditate. I sat up and saw Amy combing her hair. "What happened?" I asked in sleepy voice getting off the bed and looking for my boots. "You are awake? good. I will be done in few minutes you can have that brush than." "Ok never mind that but what happened? Was I the only one..." "Yeah. After you dropped like a stone to the ground we decided to stop. We were afraid of what happened to you and none of us just couldn't relax anymore. Jenn and Pete went to their room when you weren't waking up. I had to check your life signs for them to leave because they were so worried that they were able to stay here all night. What happened to you anyway?" "It is long story and kind of private. Lets just say that I meditated." I yawned. and washed my face in the bowl with water which felt really great and refreshing. "You finally got that walk right!" Amy said while still combing her hair and looking at me as I walked back to sit on bed I slept in. "Did I? I don't feel it to be any different than before." "You walk differently trust me. If I had to describe it against the way you walked before. I would say that you walk more lightly and gracefully than before. Which may sound weird. For first time here I feel like whole again." "And what about those memories? Are you ok having them?" "I don't know yet I have only few I didn't try to remember any more from Lina's life but they are there. I am sure of it. Thanks to them this body doesn't seem so alien to me now." Anyway I thing we should get ready and be on our way. It is already light out there." I tried change subject. "We can stop for breakfast by that bakery. I saw one on our way here." "That is good idea. Lets go wake others they are probably still sleeping. Do you know where is their room?" I asked puzzled. "Just down the hallway. Third from here on the right." "Ok let me brush my hair first. I don't want them tangled it would be hell to manage them later." I was surprised how quick I did it. It was like I did it million times before and I remembered that I did. We cleaned our room a bit and took all our things with us to get guys. They were already awake. It took them few minutes meantime me and Amy visited reception. I paid for our stay and we waited in front of inn for guys. When we got out of inn I stretched my hands and yawned again. Sun felt really good today. It was shining like there was no tomorrow. We sat on small bench in front of inn. I crossed my legs and relaxed for a bit enjoying really exceptionally nice morning. Air was still bit cool from night but in pleasant kind of way. I liked mornings like that and even Lina did. Every morning like that always reminded me that however hard life can be it is still worth it. "You seem to be in good mood today," Amy said sitting next to me on the bench. "Yeah I love mornings like this. Back home I rarely found any time to enjoy it like this. Smell of new fresh day in the air and sun that is warm and inviting," I said almost lying on the bench with face turned toward sun with my eyes closed. "I you are really romantic. What about Lina?" "She loved mornings like this but I guess she was one of those rare people that loved their life without any exception," I said with smiling as I remembered some of those happy moments. I moved my head for a bit which made me remember my earrings as they dangled around for while. Lina used to love that feeling. I didn't hate it but it just made me keep in mind how I look now. "And what about you?" "I guess I am more optimistic than before thanks to her. My emotions are getting the better of me," I said with thoughtful expression while straightening my belts." "That is not bad thing. I even think that this makes you better person. More honest." We sat there for while longer until Pete and Jenn finally came out of inn's door. "Where are you? We are waiting here for ages. I am hungry lets go grab something to eat," I said standing up. "Do you know how long it takes to manage hair this long?" Jenn replied. "Tell me about it," I said gesturing to my hair with smile. "You smile like you like having long hair." Pete joked. "I know you are only joking but to tell the truth. I do like them. They feel really nice especially when I run my hand thru them. Maybe when we get home I'll grow my own hair for a bit," I said smiling. Pete just looked worried at me. "What?!" I asked. "Nothing. Only that you couldn't stand having longer hair." "I discovered some advantages. Anyway! Lets go I am really hungry." We set on our way to pastry shop. "So did you sleep well?" I asked Irritated? "Yeah really well," Jenn replied which caused my eye to twitch violently. "I try to help you meditate and in the end only one who managed to do it was me? You have to try harder next time." "By the way what happened to you? You were out for long time. You also speak bit different like with accent or something," Pete asked surprised. "Do I? That is weird." I tried to play dumb. Amy just smiled my way at that. "Yeah he is right I noticed this to you finally walk like you should. You also seem to be speaking more lightly and with accent. If I didn't know better. I would say you switched with Lina." "Didn't know better. Heeeh." I put my hand on the back of my neck nervously. "So what did happen? Do we have to beat it out of you?" Pete pushed the point along. "Ok I will tell you. It is kind of personal and sensitive for me you know." "What is Lina?" Jenn asked. "You see. It is like this. I now have all of her memories. Her experience and maybe some personality traits as Amy pointed out to me," I said rubbing my neck. "You had some of these personality traits even before we got here that can't be that big change," Pete said. "Hey! What is that suppose to mean!" I shoot a angry glare his way. "Even your temper got worse. You have much shorter fuse," Pete said irritating me again. "Do you want to hear it all or not?" I scowled back at him. "Of course we do," Amy said. "Ok then. I can remember just few things so far but it is all there I don't want to try to remember it all. It kind of comes to me in pieces of memories. I don't know how to feel about it or how to approach those memories. They don't seem less real from mine in any way. They even seem to be like mine and if I was to give them up I wouldn't want to I guess." Jenn and Amy blinked which made me really uneasy. "I always wondered. What about you blood type?" Jenn tried me. I thought for while. How can I know? Ohh wait that one time in the magic laboratory. "A+ I guess! Our terminology is bit different from theirs but it might match A+. Like before I changed. I couldn't remember for while. Why do you ask?" I said while I looked at the clouds. "Well I wondered how much of you has changed. Ok next one. I kind of knew where she was heading with this. Yes she was right I missed them all. I missed Amelia and her constant bitching about justice. I missed Zelgadis and his calm and calculating way of looking at world yet still keeping his human emotions. Most of all I missed Gourry. I was lucky I had Gourry here with me. Heck since when did I start thinking of Jenn like this? "What is it Lina? Are you crying? What happened?" Jenn asked worried. I looked away not wanting to show that I became crybaby. "Nothing.... Just something in my eye. Stupid dust!" I Managed to say in trembling voice. Then I felt familiar feeling as Jenn embraced me. "Tell me what is wrong. Don't hold it inside trust me I know how this may feel," Jenn said to my ear. "You don't have slightest clue. I can't I just can't..... I am a mess with these memories. I remembered my friends from before. I mean her friends, Amelia, Zell and Gourry. I didn't realize that at first but they were all really close to me I mean to her. I miss them great deal. We went thru a lot together. I realize they are just characters in anime series but they feel real to me now. "Don't worry you will be ok." Then Jenn turned me around. We were face to face now and I couldn't look away as much as I wanted or tried. "It will be ok trust me. You will get over it." I could feel tears rolling down again just when I almost managed to get a grip. Jenn then embraced me. "Get it out maybe that is what you need. Don't worry just cry." And I did spilling all my worries to Jenn but I still left few to my self. "I am sorry. I really am. I don't know what got into me. I am not used to this kind of breakdown. Thank you I guess I needed to say this to someone," I said wiping my tears. "Anytime. Just remember I am here for you." "Anyway. Where is the rest?" I tried to talk myself out of it. "They went ahead to give us some privacy." "Lets go then!" I grabbed Jenn by the hand and we ran in the direction Amy and Pete went. When we caught up to them we could already see that pastry shot in distance. "Hey here you are. You thought you can go ahead and eat it all?" I joked. "You got us. Now we are screwed!" Pete joked back. "So are you ok now?" Amy asked carefully. "Yeah thanks to Gourry here." I pointed at Jenn slowly catching breath after long run. "Lets get us some breakfast!" Pete called. I as we arrived to the pastry. We bought ourselves a breakfast and some supplies on for our journey. Then continued on the road out of the city heading in direction of capital. "You don't have to hold back on my account. I am good now. I only needed to get some things in check. Now I feel much better. I guess I really needed to share my worries." "Do you feel like telling us what was it all about back there?" Amy asked with concerned look. "I remembered Lina's friends. She traveled with in anime. I realized I will never see them again and it kind of got to me. I loved them. I remember I would lay down my life in their defense. That is how strong I feel about them." "I never knew you were the noble type but it kind of fits you when I think about it. You was always like that even before all this." "Was I?" "Yeah you were Pete is right. Remember that fight in the club? You defended me. You got broken nose for it but you won." Jenn Reminded me. "I kind of remember that." I touched my nose which carried no marks of this now and was much smaller. "But my nose forgot it!" All laughed as I said that. We passed the sign announcing end of village borders still laughing. Reviaye I will have to remember that. I thought. We walked thru the forest dirt path. It was peaceful. I could hear the sounds of the forest. Trees humming in the wind and different kinds of birds flying around. "Isn't it nice in here?" I said walking with my hands on the back of my head. "You are right but remember that it might be dangerous here. Snakes wild animals and such," Pete said with grin. We came upon shore of lake. Smaller than the one we saw before. I was thirsty so I took off my gloves and tried the water. It was so clean. Clear like crystal and it tasted really good with nothing in it like those things in plain tap water. I thought I heard some unfamiliar voices. It was probably just a wind. After we refreshed ourselves we continued on our way. Then I heard those voices again. I looked around but I could see nothing out of place. "what is it Lina?" Amy asked. "I thought I heard something? Like a voice or something similar. And you can call me by my name again we seem to be alone in here." "Ok but Lina suits you much better now," Amy said with stars in her eyes. "Don't even go there!" "Maybe it was just a wind," Jenn said putting arm around my shoulder trying to make me feel safer. "Maybe," I said unsure looking around again. After hour of walk or so we decided to have little snack. We settled on small grassy clearing. Just when we started eating. It was here again. Like 11 Bandits stepped out of the woods and surrounded us. There was also some dark figure cloaked in hood with them. "Pay up kids!" Their leader shouted at us as they drew their swords. I put down my snack on the log and dusted off my hands. "I will pay up alright!" I said as I stood up to face him. "Not a step closer! We were warned about you sorceress. Give us your gold and we let you go!" "And what exactly did they tell you about me?" I asked with curious look. "That there is girl with really flat chest who pays in gold and can use magic." Bandit said. This cased my eye to twitch on reflex. "First you will be sorry for calling me flat none gets away with it and lives. Second, interrupting me eating. It is unforgivable! My third point is that you have to be stupid to try to rob us," I said with my hand extended and flipping one finger after another while counting. "For a little girl you have guts but don't worry we will fix that!" Said head bandit as he drew his sword. My eye twitched again at the girl remark. "I am not a little! I am 18 and you should know better than to challenge sorceress. I will make you eat those words!" I said as I drew my dagger. Bandits moved closer. I gestured to others to stick close to me. Jenn drew sword as we were back to back. "You think you can handle that sword?" I whispered. "I will try." At that bandits charged at us. "Shadow snap." I quickly. Eliminated the leader. So he couldn't move. Jenn managed to block two bandits. Pete and Amy just avoided them to buy time. I quickly intercepted bandits attacking Amy and Pete with flare arrows. They burned holes right thru the three bandits there. Rest stepped back in fear. I was amazed I could cast spells so quick. With simple flare arrow it took just a thought. As the other bandits saw how quickly I disposed of their friends they stepped back. "What did you do to me you little witch! I can't move!" "That is for me to know and for you to find out! I recommend you to back off before it gets even more messy," I said with raised finger. "You little witch you wont leave this place alive! I brought a match for you. I brought wizard with me! Reveal yourself Altyr!" He said as figure cloaked in hood stepped to the front. Rest of bandits held their posts not wanting to tick me off even more but they were ready to attack on any sign of weakness. I saw it in their eyes. "Good thinking but I hope that you don't think he can be my equal!" I Said to the head bandit. "I pity any magician that allies himself with sort like this. You should know better." I aimed my insult at the mage there. "You have quite formidable magic aura. I never saw one quite like yours but that makes no difference." Altyr said as he shoot ball of ice. I intercepted with flare arrow and two spells eliminated each other in a puff of vapor. "Not bad for third rate wizard. You are unlucky that one of my friends was sorceress that did specialize in ice spells. I picked up few things. Ice is used like this!" I said with smirk. "Van Rail!" I shouted as I touched ground. It froze bandits in place and enveloped Wizard. I went closer and retrieved my dagger it wasn't needed there any more since they were encased in ice to their waists. I felt something. He tried to put mind control spell on me! My bandana sparked a bit. "So you know few tricks! You should know that on someone like me is using these cheap tricks pointless. No matter!" I noticed ice started melting around them. Ill give you one more chance to turn tail and run. "No way you little witch!" Head bandit shouted at me. I then fire balled half of bandits on spot as they were getting lose. Rest ran away in terror of same fate like them. "I hate to kill magicians. It is bad for my karma. What do you say? Surrender?" "I do not. I on the other hand don't mind killing anyone if it is for good price." "Just what I wanted to hear!" He tried some ice spell as I intercepted with fireball. Fireball incinerated his spell and continued undisrupted to the spot where he was standing. It was over before it started. We all watched wizard getting blown up and we forgot that bandit leader. Then He reminded himself to me. I barely dodged as my eyes went wide with surprise. I just helplessly blocked with my hand and gave out high pitched cry of pain. He cut me with his sword right between glove and sleeve of my shirt. It was deep. Tears ran out of my yes because of the pain I couldn't see properly. I quickly casted healing spell. Jenn quickly disposed of him with sword. All it took was one stroke and he fell dead. I quickly took off one glove on my injured hand to prevent blood rushing from my wound to stain it and the other by holding it in my teeth and held my wound with free hand together. There was loot of blood and it hurt like hell. I never felt this kind of pain. I was lucky he didn't break my bone. Luckily I managed to keep it from my clothes. "Are you ok?" Pete asked rushing closer. "Idiot how can she be ok? This is at least 11 stitches all around." Amy looked horrified. "Hey you two don't worry. I will be as good as new in no time. By the way. Thank you Gourry. I got careless there and forgot all about him. I think we should use our cover names all time now we can't know who follows us. About that. How come that you killed him with your sword? I thought you said you try to handle it. Not to masterfully use it to kill," I said still sitting on ground holding my hand. "I sort of went on instinct there. I saw you injured and he was about to attack you again. I think that something similar to what happened to you in that forest two days ago happened to me here. I think that with bit of meditation I access access that skill that I demonstrated while ago." "Maybe but I still think it would better if you forgot about it. Look at me! It is much harder now. All those memories are starting to mix up with mine. They all feel like mine now not only mine or Lina's. It is hard to distinguish between them. Also. I don't know why I said it back there but as you may remember I was mad they pointed out my small chest. This shouldn't get to me like it did. I was really mad at that jerk. "So what? "You didn't have to rip your old shirt for me," I said disappointed. "I would throw it away anyway." "Why?" Amy asked surprised. "I managed to rip it in the forest before. I noticed it in the inn." "Lucky I made you buy those new clothes." "Yeah. and how is your hand?" He handed me that wet piece of shirt. "Almost healed." I cleaned my hands and area around my wound. It was much smaller now. "Few more minutes and I am as good as new. Lucky I learned that white magic after all." "This magic really comes handy," Jenn said with grin. "It does. I am lucky he didn't damage my clothes I would hate to part with any of it. They kind of fit me like a glove and are really comfortable. I can repair them with my magic but only to an extent." "It kind of makes sense she has that outfit for long time in anime. It is only logical conclusion," Jenn said thinking about it. "Well. I remember that one time I coughed a bit of blood on my shirt when I got injured by casting Ragna blade trying to kill Gavv. It dried. I had to use my magic to get rid of it latter. There were many times I did something like that. I also carried spare copy of my clothes which I had made from only best tailors I found and they did their job well." "Where? Lina never had any backpack," Jenn asked. "Pocket dimension! First I carried my things in my cape but latter I discovered really hard spell for storing things. Not many magicians knew it. In order for it to work it needed some anchor bag or pouch to hold that dimension attached to ours. I just used my cape and pockets in it. Enough of this. I don't want to tap too much into those memories. Like I said it really confuses me," I said turning around from others with crossed hands. "Ok but I think you should explore it more like Amy pointed out before. If I were in your place I would love to know all I can about Lina's life," said Jenn who came closer to me. "You should be in my place then!" I snapped and said in anger. This made Jenn stop and look down. "I am sorry you are right." "Sorry I didn't mean it like that forgive me. I just...." I relaxed my hands in fear of what I just said. "You just said what you thought. It is true I got you into this mess Luke. Thanks to me you are like this." I looked back carefully with guilty look. "Stop Jenn I thought we were clear on this. It is my fault for insisting on checking that shop," I said as I came closer to Jenn. "I made you to wear that costume," Jenn said with guilty expression. "And we enjoyed ourselves. You were right about those costumes it was fun to do something like that. If I wore something else I might end up worse. It isn't fault of that costume but of my curiosity. It was me who opened that dammed box," I said hugging Jenn who was surprised by this. "I cant let you take blame. Especially when you paid price this high. I can see it now," Jenn said refusing me taking blame. "Lets sum up some facts shall we? I first saw that shop. I was curious about it. I discovered that box and I opened it. This all points to the clear fact that it is my fault and you paid for it along with me." "Don't be idiot you had no way to know what will happen. It is nobody's fault. It is just really bad coincidence we ended up here and like this. And Luke stop being an idiot. You always take blame. This must stop!" Pete said. Which caught me off guard. "Even if it was your fault which isn't I think you paid highest price of all of us here." Jenn tried to calm me down. "I don't think so. I got something in return. Before I would be unable to get rid of those bandits. Now I trashed them I would be unable to do this before. Anyway. I am still hungry!" I broke the hug embarrassed a bit. My hand was completely healed now. I took my gloves and put them on. As I did Amy came closer to inspect my hand. "Amazing not even scar." She said in surprise. "Of course not. This spell works 100 percent. I am not some kind of amateur magician. Now where was I? Ahh Here it is. I said as I approached log with my snack on it." I found it where I left it but burned to crisp. I must have hit it together with the bandits. "Nooooooo! My food!" I yelled that whole forest could hear me. "Calm down you can have mine," Jenn proposed. "Thanks Gourry but no. I am just mad I burned it together with them," I said taking my gloves off. "Lets get to work! I said as I looked over dead bandits where to start. "Again? You are really greedy like her," Pete said. "Why? they are dead and they don't need gold anymore. We on the other hand do and I had to work for it. I even spilled my blood this time," I said as I searched those bandits. We found some more gold and gems which we divided between ourselves. I took those gems again and put them together with rest of ones I already had. We then continued on our way to the next town. We walked until the dusk. Thanks to god there were no more surprises just trees. We found good place for camp. Pete set up fireplace and Jenn picked up some wood. I caught some fishes in nearby river so we had our dinner. Amy just thought about all that happened. "Ok I think that we have chance to get to the next town tomorrow so it will be better to get some sleep. This was very busy day for all of us. I will take first guard." I tried to sum it up. "No I will do it. You need to rest. You almost got your hand cut off today," Pete argued. "I am ok you don't have to take it easy on me. I got injured much worse before." "What? when?" "Well when Rezo drilled hole into me at flagoon. I was lucky that Sylphiel was at hand." "Luke? That happened to Lina," Amy said surprised. "Like I said it is hard to separate those memories." "You need some rest. It is not because you was cut. You are girl you need your beauty sleep. Just drop it. You are free of guard duty for tonight." He said determined. "Ok then. I will. I see there is no point in arguing about that," I said with resigned and bit angry look. "What is wrong?" said Jenn who saw it in my eyes. "I am thinking about home. What my parents are doing. They probably already called cops to look for us." "You are right. I never thought about it before but we are here few days already." "Yeah but this is not all I was thinking about. What if we can't change back even if we get home? What will we do then?" I asked worried. "We will find way to turn back to normal," said Pete. "I am not sure about that. I am beginning to lose hope. I don't have any clue how to get us fixed. I don't even know how could it happen in first place and I should be magic expert." "It might be magic that you have no clue about. Something like magic from Harry Potter," said Amy smiling. "Don't be ridiculous. No magic works like that. It is just silly to use sticks to do magic. "It might be wrong to assume that all magic is similar to your's Lina," said Jenn while putting an arm around me as I sat with my hands around my legs. "It might not but that magician guy also didn't use any wand. His magic felt familiar kind of close to mine yet different in many aspects. Those spells seemed lot less powerful than mine and I don't think it was only because he was unskilled. Anyway lets get back to my previous point. What if we can't change back? What then?" I said thinking about it all. "I don't know it might be lot of trouble. None would believe it is us. Not our parents nor authorities. Our ID cards are useless to us like this," Amy said worried. "Yeah that is exactly my point. I can't even think about showing myself home like this. It makes me sick. And what would I tell them. Hi mom, hi dad it is me I am back?" "I think you worry to much. First your parents are better than you give them credit for. Two of us would be able to convince them that it is really you. You went as Lina out didn't you? You look bit different you are bit smaller but they would recognize you," Jenn said too sure of it. "I don't know about that. I might be able to convince them it is really me but what then? This planet must be in galaxy that is merging with another. I imagined how it might look like two colossal galaxies clashed in deadly dance. I slowly drifted to sleep. I had bad dreams that night. I was standing in the field of scorched ground all around. Dead tree line of forest behind me. Air was filled with smell of melting tar and smoke with something else in it like sulfur or similar substance. Next to me was Standing Jenn and... wait a minute! This wasn't Jenn Behind me was Zelgadis. No! This ain't that place! I looked before me and there he was. Emerging from pool of lava. Dark lord Shabrinigdo. My knees felt like jelly I knew I can't run and I was scared to death. I couldn't move my feet an inch even if I wanted to. "Lets go we beat him or we die trying!" I said holding to last bits of courage I had left. Battle didn't go well for us. Gourry threw me his sword. Then I got hit by needle attack of demon lord. I never felt pain like that in my life. It was like every cell in my body had its own nerve system and they were all screaming in pain. I managed to stand up not feeling anything. I started casting Giga slave. It didn't go well. I managed to get it working with sword and then I felt it. My soul was ripped from my body and I stood behind us all looking at myself falling to my knees and collapsing to the ground.
