I walked out of Bikini Beach in a state of semi-shock.
I had done it.
I was Tasha.
Oh, I was happy. Very happy. And, yet, at the same time, I also could not
believe that I would be a woman for the rest of my life. I COULD still
change my mind. But, I knew I would not. My brain floated on such a high
that everything just seemed dream-like and unreal.
I knew that every day would not be perfect. I knew I would have sorrows,
angst, and I would sometimes miss who I had been. Ryan would forever be
an unfinished story. I knew that I would always wonder how things would
have ended up for him. Maybe, just maybe, there would be times I'd regret
not being him.
But then there would always be the next orgasm.
I jumped into my little apple-green Fiat and drove home. It was a cute,
girly car which I now rather liked. The car fit me. I needed to be sweet
and nice to get guys to notice me. And, yes, even though I had a
boyfriend, I still wanted guys to notice me. A girl needs options,
because you never know what can happen to a relationship.
Besides. It's fun.
About an hour and a half later I slung my purse over my shoulder and
headed for my front door. Before I could reach inside my bag for my key,
the door opened. My Mom asked, "Why do you have your phone turned off,
young lady?"
Gee Mom, I was busy becoming your daughter. Then I was fucking an entire
basketball team. What do you think?
I couldn't just blow her off like I did before. Because this was my life
now. What I said to her would no longer disappear into the ether of an
alternative universe. I would have to deal with what I told her tomorrow,
and for the rest of my life.
This time, I didn't lie.
"Mom, I'm sorry. I needed some alone time."
"What's wrong, Tasha?"
"Nothing, really. I just don't know where things are going with Mike. "
My Mom looked at me suspiciously. I'm sure she wondered whether I had
decided to fuck Mike or not. Of course, that's a decision I'd already
made. But, I hoped, she didn't suspect it quite yet.
I tried to give her my most winsome, vulnerable look. Thankfully, I
neither looked, or smelled, like I'd been ravished. Apparently, it worked
because she relented and let me walk up the stairs.
I opened the door to my room and laid down on my bed.
Safe at last!
I looked around at the surroundings that seemed alien only a short time
ago, and wryly noted how comfortable they felt now.
Amazing what a changed perception of your future will do.
I looked up at the canopy above my head, the Hello Kitty! posters on the
walls, and the photos of Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, and Selena Gomez on
my vanity mirror and realized this was all my stuff. Before, they had
seemed like movie props to a life that wasn't really mine. Then my eye
fell upon my half-open closet.
I stripped down to my bra and panties and tried on the clothes in my
closet. I tried short dresses and different heels. I tried camisole tops.
I looked at how different pairs of jeans flattered my butt. I preened and
posed. I practiced looking cute, serious, flirty and sexy. It wasn't
hard. I'd seen thousands of attractive women posing in magazines, TV
shows, and movies. I just needed to emulate those images.
Then I realized that tomorrow, I was supposed to work at Hooters for the
afternoon shift---right before the 1:00 PM NFL games. Rather than
dreading the prospect, I was looking forward to it. I'm a girl. It's not
going to be all about sex. It's about time I start living a real life.
I unhooked my bra and slipped a ice-blue silk shift over my body. I could
have worn cheer shorts and a top, or a big t-shirt, but I wanted to wear
something distinctly feminine. Perhaps, my reason was that I wanted to
remind myself of my new identity. Or maybe I just wanted to feel sexy.
I pulled back the covers and laid down in my bad. Even lying down to
sleep was different now. Sprawling would be indecent. Instead, I laid
down on my side with my knees together. The soft flesh of my legs rubbing
against one another felt strange. I wondered how long it would be before
my new life stopped feeling like an alien existence.

Walking into Hooters wearing my skin tight orange shorts, tank top, and
white sneakers felt strange. I know I had worn a cheer uniform and
performed in front of a crowd, but that had been when I still expected
Tasha's life to disappear into an alternative reality. I now knew that
this was real. That knowledge changed everything.
I didn't really have problems doing the job. I was running on my Tasha
autopilot. I brought food, took orders, and flirted with guys. The truly
strange part was looking around the room, and realizing that the
scantily-clad waitresses were my peers. All of us chatted, let guys put
their arms around our shoulders, and occasionally, we wrapped our
pipestem arms around each other and posed for groups of guys.
Things were just starting to feel normal when I saw them. Mike, Jay
Lathrop, and Greg Sheppard sat at one of my tables just before the
Jacksonville game was about to begin. Jay and Greg looked me up and down,
but Mike stared at me in shock.
Jay says, "Tasha! You should wear that outfit to school."
I smiled and replied, "I wear a cheer uniform. That's should be enough."
Before Bikini Beach, I would have been with them. As Ryan, Mike, Jay,
Greg, and I would meet every week to watch the Jags during football
season, but I didn't expect to see them here. Sometimes we went to
Hooters, or Buffalo Wild Wings, but we preferred to watch in one of our
houses if our parents were away. That way, we could drink without messing
with fake ID's.
Mike rose from his seat and grabbed me by the arm. He said, "We need to
talk."
He marched me away from the table to the corridor that led to the
bathrooms. On the way there, I mouthed to one of the other waitresses,
"cover me".
His domineering behavior shocked me. He had never acted like this with
Ryan. I would not have tolerated it. But, somehow, as Tasha, I felt like
I owed him an explanation. He was bigger, stronger, and I instinctively
reacted to his deeper voice. He towered over me. I sort of took a
defensive position against the wall as I looked up at him.
He demanded, "What are you doing here?"
"Working."
"You know what I mean."
This conversation reminded me of the one we had on Friday night right
after the game. But, then he had been so eager to get in my pants that he
couldn't think of anything else. Now that he'd had me, he seemed
embarrassed by what he had done with his best friend.
You might as well tell him. He'll find out soon enough.
I reply, "Well Mike, you're going to have to get used to it. I bought a
lifetime pass."
He pulls back from me like I had an infectious disease. He almost shouts,
"You what!?!"
My voice is subdued as I repeated myself. "I bought a lifetime pass.
Tasha is here to stay. For good."
I can feel water build up in my eyes. I fought to hold back the tears,
but the effort is futile. Tears spill over the brim of my bottom eyelid
and roll down my cheeks. I look defiantly up at him and say, "I thought
you might like it."
"I....I....I don't know what to say."
We stood there in something of a Mexican standoff. Him looking down at me
in shock, me looking up at him as tears burbled from my eyes. At least I
wasn't sobbing.
Finally, his expression softened. He puts his right hand under my chin
and wiped away the tear trail down my left cheek. "You really are a girl.
Aren't you?"
I nodded my head. I reached up and clasped my hands behind his neck. I
stood on tip-toe and whisper close to his ear, "Yes. I am."
I leaned my curves against him to let him know just how much of a girl I
had become. The move seemed to be effective, because I could feel his
erection sprout against my body. I must confess, I wanted to fuck his
brains out right there; but I had a job. I let him go before I started
making out with him, and went back to my tables.
After that, I'm no longer on autopilot, because I was thinking way too
much. I started messing up. I mixed up orders. I dropped a tray. Flirting
felt awkward. All of it was caused by me noticing my former friends
checking out my ass and wondering what Mike is saying to them about me.
When we go back to the kitchen to pick up orders, my closest work friend
Natalie asked me, "Something wrong, Tash?"
I didn't know what to say. My face turns red and I admit, "See that guy
at table 4?"
"Which one?"
I replied, "The big guy with sandy hair and hazel eyes."
"The one that looks like a football player?"
"Yeah, him."
"What about him?"
I bit my bottom lip and said, "He's my boyfriend. Well, at least I think
he is."
She looked at me then. Finally, she asked, "Did you sleep with him?"
I could tell she knew. I might as well tell the truth.
I reluctantly nodded.
"And now he's acting weird."
"Yeah, something like that."
She gave a disgusted snort. "Typical."
I honestly didn't know about that, because I had never slept with a guy
in my life. Though, I suppose the point of view was bit startling to me,
because I still wasn't used to being on the girls' team. I nodded again
because I didn't know what else to say. Maybe it is typical.
I wasn't about to tell her it was my first time.
"Let him stare at you and see how many other guys want you."
I must have given an uncertain look at her after she gave me this advice
because she said, "Just try it. You'll see. He'll be eating out of your
hand."
The whole thing was weird. I know it's repetitive to keep saying that.
But, its one thing to like sex as a girl and another to think like a
girl. I honestly hadn't acquired the viewpoint yet despite having all the
factory equipment and sharing similar goals.
I had honestly thought that dating Mike would be like the friendship we
had before except with sex added to the mix. Yet, as I worked through the
shift, I began to see that Tasha and Mike would be a very different type
of interaction. Just at that moment, the cost of the choice I had made
hit me. I wouldn't really be the same person with different chassis and
manners. Who I was would change the more I lived this life and dealt with
these expectations. Certainly, Ryan wouldn't have remained static either,
but the changes would be far more significant now.
As I watched Mike, Jay, and Greg horse around at the table, I realized I
could never again really be part of their group.
I still wasn't going back.
