and him. He got into his pickup and as he left he saw her standing
outside the shop and he just chuckled.
He went to the bakery and selected a double fudge cake and got in his
pickup and drove towards Mandy's house. He drove for 15 minutes and
than he drove up her driveway. After he parked the pickup in front of
her house he walked up to her door and knocked. When she answered the
door she had the biggest smile on her face when she recognized Jessie.
She hugged and kissed him and said, "Wow, you look so handsome."
He said, "I am glad you approved and I brought a couple of things."
When she stepped back he was amazed that he was able to save the cake
and flowers.
She looked and laughed and said, "Are you trying to get to me fat it is
double fudge chocolate cake."
He laughed and said, "Well, you can have my family over after we enjoy a
slice of it."

She took the roses and filled the vase with water and put the roses in
it and put the roses on the table.
She looked at the time and it was 10:30 and she saw it was time to start
fixing lunch.
She said, " It is time to start fixing lunch you can go to the living
room."
Jessie asked, "What are you preparing?"
She said, "Ham, green beans, I think okra and coleslaw."
He said, "I can help you."
She asked, "You can cook?"
He said, "Yeah, I can cook."
She said, "Well, if you want to help be my guest."
He said, "First get me some brown sugar and honey."
She did and he poured about 5 tablespoons of honey and sprinkled some
brown sugar on the ham.
He than put the oven at 375 and than started to slice 3 cucumbers
sliced and put them in a big mixing bowl and than he sliced thinly 5
dill pickles,
He than said, "Get me some mayonnaise."
She got it out and he looked at it and smiled.
He said, "Blue Plate Mayonnaise this about the best mayo I know of."
She said, "I got it on special."
He said, "Stick with it."
He scooped out 5 tablespoons of mayonnaise and mixed it together and put
it in the refrigerator and put the ham in the oven.
He said, "Now don't cook the green beans or the okra until the ham has
cooked for at least an hour."
She said, "Ok so how would you cook the okra?"
Jessie said, "I would fry it steamed taste slimy."
She said, "Ok if you say so."
He said, "Why don't we go out to the porch for about an hour we have the
timer."
She said, "Ok if you say so."
He says, "It is quiet warm today and there is nothing we can do."
So they went out to the porch and sat on the swing.
She said, "I am not used to doing things like that."
He said, "Mom would do it this way so that everything is hot when the
ham is done and the green beans and the okra only take about 30 minutes
at the longest."
She said, "That is good boy I do love this house."
He said, "I forgot how good the scenery is and wow you have cleaned this
place and that is a nice garden. How did you do all of this?"
She laughed and said, "I was here for about 6 months before we met you
know me chasing you down."
He laughed and said, "Wow this is great well I am flattered babe."
They swung for almost another 30 minutes when he said, "Time to get the
rest of the food."
He told her to put bacon in the beans and butter. He put flour on the
okra and started to cook it and she put a little bit of water in the
green beans so steam it.
They got everything cooked and than she smelled the aroma of the ham and
was impressed.
She said, "Well, I am ready to eat and it seems so delicious."
They sat down at the table and they started to serve themselves the
food.
She took a bite of the okra and ham and she said, "This is delicious."
He almost served them the coleslaw and she said, "Wow this is so good
and I wouldn't have guessed of using dill pickles."
He said, "Mom's secret recipe."
They got done eating the lunch and they put things away and head out to
the front porch and sat on the swing.
She laughed and said, "I was planning to cook you lunch and you ended up
helping me to cook."
He said, "Well, Monday you surprised me when you had lunch for me while
I plowed. I know you like me don't know how to cook every dish and what
I cooked is what I learned from mom."
She said, "Fair enough."
She got up and said, "Let me show what I did."
He looked as she pointed out where the weeds were pulled and than she
showed him the vegetable garden and was impressed with the corn that was
growing the tomatoes , the okra, squash. and the watermelon and all the
other vegetables that were growing.
He said, "Wow I am impressed you will be eating well all winter and oh I
can come over and we can snap beans."
She said, "Really?"
He said, "Yeah it helps to do that to can them."
She said, "Ok."
As they walked around and also swung on the swing they enjoyed each
other's company but it was already suppertime before they knew it.
So what was eaten for lunch they reheated it and they sat down.
She said, "What a great day this is."
He said." Yes it is and well last week I didn't think anything about
being single."
They rocked and it got close to 9 when all of a sudden Mandy started
crying.
Jessie asked, "What is wrong?"
She said, "I have something to tell and show you. Now if you don't
want to have anything to do with me I understand. I was born
