"Is that what I think it is?" Katherine asked looking down at the book in my hand.
"It is." I answered thumbing through the pages. "This is the book I told you about we found at the airport. The one that belonged to that serial killers mother."
Everything inside the book looked just as it had in 1980 including the pressed flower which was still there between the pages and all the poems and ... Oh ... Oh ... Dear god ... on the last six pages was a hand written letter from the girls. I read; 'Our most dearest Sam', then I stopped reading and closed the book.
Katherine, who had been watching asked, "Is that a note left by your wives?"
"Yes," I answered my voice catching in my throat. I swallowed. "I'm not trying to keep you from reading it Katherine. I just don't want to read it here in the car."
"I know this little place called the Bistro Provence over on Pass Avenue right here in Burbank with some very private booths. Would you like me to take you there so you can read their letter?"
"Yeah. That would be great." I said but I felt my whole body shaking.
The Bistro Provence was located close to the Walt Disney Studios, kind of hidden in a neighborhood shopping center. The front door of the place was cloaked with quintessentially French lace curtains, and inside was a stylish two-toned wooden bar. It had mustard-colored walls lined with wrought iron sconces and vintage style black and white photos, giving the place a homey yet sophisticated aura. And just as Katherine had told me there were some very private booths as well as candlelit tables dressed in white linen.
We selected a booth and I suggested to Katherine that she sit next to me rather than across from me so we could both read what the girls had written together.
We ordered sandwiches, a small plate of sliced fruits and a pot of tea. After the food arrived at our table I opened the book and Katherine and I began to read;
Our most dearest Sam,Although it is me, Kim, with pen in hand it is all of us, your wives, lovers, and soul mates that are writing to you. It is now June 3rd 1989 and after finishing the writing of this account to you our dearest, we will turn this book over to Robert Towns for safe keeping until such time that you might be able to retrieve it.
Clearly if you are reading this you are alive, darling, something which we are not, nor could we be certain of. When we discovered that you had gone we assumed that you had returned to the year 2006 but we knew not if you even had a place there to return too. Not knowing something, as we do not, can bring even greater suffering than having knowledge of even the most dreadful thing, which is why after numerous long and difficult debates, we ultimately decided to write out this account that you might at the very least have some understating of what has taken place.
It is with trepidation that we write out this account for fear of causing you even greater hurt and anguish than you must already be suffering, our dearest, just as we too are suffering for you, our most precious lost darling, but we felt you would want to know.
Katherine slid her arm around my neck and I looked over at her, she was crying, "Oh dear god, how much they must love you. How much they must miss you ... I'm so sorry Sam. So, very, very sorry. For you and for them."
"Yes," I whispered through my own tears.

The night you went away, the very night of the party that your daughter Clarity would have suffered that terrible rape, as you had instructed, Vicky and Heather had spent the night with Clarity at her house in order to keep her safe. Well, my love that, at the very least was a success. Clarity did not attend that party, and she was not raped.It was Jen that first recognize it was not you inside Jimmy's body but rather her own appalling son that had come back. It was as if she had some strange sixth sense, Jimmy had not even awaked yet but somehow she knew. It was the morning after the party and we girls had already gotten up and dressed leaving you still sleeping in bed. Then an hour later Jen returned to the bedroom to make sure you were all right when the rest of us heard an ear piercing scream coming from the bedroom. We all ran and discovered it had come from Jen. She was standing over the bed looking down at you still laying there sleeping. Jen insisted that it was not you, but rather it was her son returned.
The rest of us soon came to feel this same strange sixth sense that Jen had sensed earlier and then we too knew, without a doubt, that you were gone from us. We were devastated and in a state of panic not knowing what to do until Jen insisted that we drug the still sleeping body of her son and then get him dressed. Panicked as we were we did as Jen demanded crushing up a number of sleeping pills mixing them in water then force feeding them to him. Even after he woke we kept him drugged until we could decide what to do.
It was Vicky and Clarity that took your disappearance the hardest, although Clarity didn't find out until sometime later, but when she did find out, had it not been for Heather, who as it turned out, was rock and anchor for both Vicky and Clarity that they so desperately needed to prevent them from doing something disastrous. That dear amazing girl somehow, over the next two years, managed to not only get Clarity through high school graduation but kept Vicky from total self destruction. I must admit however, after you left both Vicky and Clarity were but shadows of their former selves and moved through their daily lives almost as robots. Needless to say the rest of us were hardly any better and I think only us being older than they made the difference.
We kept Jimmy drugged for a week and Jen managed to convince him that he had been very ill during the two years he had no memory of, though in actuality that was the two years that you had occupied his body. We were obsessed with somehow keeping him from damaging the body that one day you might return to and then once again join with the women that so love and miss you so very much.
We rented Jimmy an apartment near the Beach house and supported him. Money was not a problem because all the financial investments you had made were doing well and we were more than just a little rich. But after a year or so Jimmy had became more and more difficult to control, he tried beating Jen more than once and had it not been for either Candy or Dana being with her he might have killed her. We tried our best to keep him happy. We supplied him with the most expensive call girls and escorts to satisfy his sexual needs. We purchased high quality marijuana to satisfy his craving but nothing was enough for him. Then we talked to a young psychiatrist just starting out a Carl Katzman...
"Carl Katzman! That's my associate at my office." Katherine said excitedly.

... and Jen convinced Katzman that her son was delusional, and self destructive and she needed help. Katzman agreed to see Jimmy and as it turned out Jimmy was his own worst enemy. Katzman with Jen's approval had Jimmy placed in an institution for his own protection and therapy where he remained for the next five years.
