St. Stephen’s Day, 1984, Indianapolis, Indiana

I went to see if Ed had returned and found him and my sister sitting with Kara. Ed looked even happier than he had earlier, so I assumed my sister had properly thanked him.

“She’s awake, but groggy,” I said. “She has no idea what happened, though. Ed, why don’t you go see her?”

“Thanks!” he replied, giving Stephanie a quick kiss.

“I see you properly thanked him!” I teased, after he left.

She laughed, “I did. Twice!”

“You weren’t gone THAT long, Squirt!”

“He’s not you. Nobody is you! But he knows how to make me cum!”

“Now we’re getting into ‘too much information’ territory!”

“Oh give me a break, big brother. Back when we were involved that way, I could see you being squeamish. But now? You and I should be able to talk about this.”

Kara giggled, “Oh stop it, you two! How is Bethany, really?”

“Weak and tired, but her heart and lungs seem sound. She has a long recovery ahead of her. If they were right about the problem with her chest, then the incident from a couple of days ago was an anomaly and isn’t a concern. At some point, the doctor who did the surgery will be back. I was thinking maybe you want to go home today, Kara. I’m going to be in Bethany’s room a lot, and I’m sure that I’m going to need to talk to Jennifer. You could come back on Saturday, if you wanted.”

“I was wondering about that, too,” Kara said. “Maybe I’ll just go to Milford and wait until you’re back in Chicago. After all, Jennifer is going to be here, and then you have to figure out what you’re doing with Tatyana.”

“I think bringing her to Indianapolis makes sense. We’ll go back to Chicago for our Christmas celebration on the 7th, which is also her birthday, but otherwise, we’ll probably just stay here in the hotel.”

“Then I’ll go to my mom’s house tonight. Promise me that you’ll call me with updates and let me know if you need me?”

“I will. I really appreciate everything you’ve done to support me. Are you going to hang around to see Jennifer?”

“No, I think I’ll head out now. Honestly, I’d rather make the drive in daylight.”

“I understand,” I answered, then turned to my sister. “Squirt, I’m going to walk Kara back to the hotel so she can get her stuff. I’m assuming that you’re staying in Indianapolis for a while?”

“You need a car. Dad said he’d come get me when I want to come home. You can borrow my car until you get yours back. I’ll stay at least until Saturday.”

“Thanks. Why don’t you go down to Bethany’s room? Now that she’s out of the coma, and it’s normal visiting hours, maybe they won’t give you grief.”

“Thanks, big brother! I’m going to ask Ed to go with me to get Jennifer.”

“Ah, a budding romance!” I teased.

“No, this afternoon just kind of whetted my appetite. I need him to fuck me silly later. We just have to negotiate the terms!”

I laughed, “Good luck!”

I took Kara’s hand and walked her to the hotel. She packed her bag and then came to stand close.

“You know, that sounded like a good idea!” she smirked.

“And which idea is that?” I asked.

“Think Bethany will miss you for an hour?” she giggled.

I pulled Kara to me and kissed her hard. We started out slow and sweet but after a few minutes of our bodies moving gently in unison, Kara demanded that I fuck her hard and fast and about ten minutes later, we were both groaning as my orgasm, and her third, crashed over us. We caught our breath and then went to the shower to clean up.

“Thanks,” she said, giving me a gentle kiss after we’d dressed.

“You’re welcome!”

I grabbed Kara’s bag and walked her to her car where we kissed again and she got in and started the engine. She rolled down her window.

“I’ll call you in about three hours to check that you got home,” I said.

She blew me a kiss and then backed out of the parking spot and drove away. I went back to the hospital and went up to Bethany’s room. Her parents, Ed, and Stephanie were there, and Bethany was asleep.

“She ate her broth,” Nora said. “I had to help her. It was like when she was a baby.”

“I suspect there’s going to be a lot of that for some time,” I said.

“She asked for you,” Harry said.

“Sorry; I needed to help Kara get her things so that she could head to Ohio.”

I saw Stephanie smirk. She knew exactly what I had been doing.

“I need to head to the airport soon,” Stephanie said. “Is it OK if Ed goes with me?”

“Sure,” Mr. Krajick said. “But who’s at the airport?”

“Jennifer Block,” I said. “She was supposed to visit me in Chicago this week, but I had her take a flight here from Chicago when she got in from Seattle. She and her girlfriend broke up and Jennifer needs a friend.”

“Girlfriend?” Nora asked.

Stephanie and Ed left the room hand in hand.

“Yes,” I replied. “Girlfriend. In any event, they broke up. I have to take Jennifer to Chicago for a job interview tomorrow. She and her now ex-girlfriend had planned to move there. I’m not sure what the plan is now. Did Doctor Hicks come in?”

“Yes. He talked to us about the rehabilitation and it’s going to be lengthy, just for her chest. Lots of range of motion exercises with a physiotherapist. He said that he’ll talk to the orthopedic surgeon, Doctor Franks, about coordinating the therapy for her arm and chest.”

“Has anyone said anything about the skull fracture?” I asked.

“No. Just what Doctor Barton said to us. I guess it’s just going to heal itself. He was here with some students while you were gone. He said to say ‘hello’. He said you should stop by to see him before you go back to Chicago.”

“Cool,” I said.

A few minutes later Jessica Wilton came to the door. She was wearing street clothes, not scrubs, and her short white lab coat.

“I wanted to check on Bethany,” Jessica said. “How is she?”

“About like you would expect, I guess. Her chart is there.”

“I’m not allowed to look at patient charts without express permission from a doctor. I’m just here as Jessica, not in any official capacity.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Krajick, this is Jessica Wilton, a medical student. She’s Doctor Barton’s protégé!” I said.

“It’s nice to meet you both,” Jessica said. “You have a lovely daughter. Steve was kind enough to share her pictures with all of us.”

“Thanks, Jessica. What year are you?”

“I’m in my second year. Steve’s right. I want to be a surgeon. I observed Bethany’s surgery with other medical students and Steve. I just stopped in to see her and I’m glad to see that she’s doing OK. Steve, can I talk to you really quick?”

“Sure,” I said

We stepped out into the hall.

“Fiancé?” she asked. “When did that happen? I thought she was just your girlfriend.”

I chuckled, “I guess you saw that when you looked up her room? A bit of fiction by her parents to let me see her outside of visiting hours. Our relationship is complicated.”

“Complicated? I thought you said she was your girlfriend?”

“I did. But it’s complicated. She’s my absolute best friend in the world. We’ve known each other since eighth grade. We’ve dated off and on for years. I might well marry her in the future. But who knows?”

Jessica laughed, “So she’s a friend you fool around with? Is that what you are trying to say?”

“It’s more than that. I love her to pieces. And she loves me.”

“Now you’re confusing me!”

“You aren’t alone. Let’s just say all of my relationships are complicated.”

“So you’re not taken?” she asked with a cute smile.

I laughed, “It’s complicated. What was true was what I told you - I need to focus on Bethany getting better.”

“If you want a cup of coffee or tea, I’m buying,” she said.

I checked my watch and it was 4:15pm. I had around 45 minutes before Jennifer would arrive, assuming that she didn’t need to have her hair done, or whatever. Bethany was sleeping. I could have coffee with Jessica without affecting either of them.

“I can get a cup of coffee in the visitors’ lounge, you know,” I grinned.

“You certainly could,” she smiled.

“Sure. Let me tell Bethany’s parents that I’m going to get some coffee. I just need to be back when my sister comes back with Bethany’s brother and my friend Jennifer from California.”

“Just how many of these friends do you have? I saw you with an absolutely stunning blonde earlier.”

“As I said, it’s complicated!”

I went back in the room and told Bethany’s parents I was going to get a cup of tea and that I’d be back in about 45 minutes. I followed Jessica to the elevator and we went down to the cafeteria. I got a cup of tea and she got coffee and we sat at a table for two by a window.

“Where are you from?” I asked.

“Plano, Texas. I went to UT for my undergrad degree. I applied to medical school here because of Doctor Barton. I also applied to a school in Los Angeles and one in Chicago that have top trauma surgeons on staff.”

“How the heck did you decide on trauma surgery?”

“It’s the hardest. I like a challenge!” she said smiling sweetly.

I laughed, “Is THAT why you’re having coffee with me?”

“You figure it out. Doctor Barton thinks that you’re very smart. Let’s see how smart and observant you are.”

“You said you don’t date doctors, or medical students, because they already think the only thing that you’re good for is sex. You are extremely smart, and you need someone who is not only your intellectual equal, but someone who’ll treat you as an equal, not look down on you because you’re a ‘girl’,” I made air quotes, “and not be intimidated by you. You’re independent, headstrong, self-confident, and an egomaniac. You need a guy who can handle all that, AND who can curl your toes,” I smirked.

“Very good. Anything else?”

“You think I might fit the bill. But you also are ethical, so you backed off when you found out I had a girlfriend. That said, you made sure I knew you were interested and did it in a way that could easily be rejected without either me feeling bad or you feeling rejected. You couched it as ‘if’, and I answered the same way.”

“That about sums it up!” she said with a smile.

“Your turn. Why did I accept the offer of coffee or tea?”

“Well, if you were like the usual guys here or in High School, I’d say it was the chance of getting into my pants. That’s usually enough to get any guy’s attention. But not yours. I get the drift that your friends are much closer than you let on, so you’re getting plenty of sex from gorgeous girls. That means it’s not the prospect of sex. It’s not a conquest thing, either; you don’t give off that vibe.

“So I’d say that despite having that hot blonde, and Bethany, and this girl from California, you haven’t found what you’re looking for. So you decided to have coffee with me to see if I might be that one girl in a million who is smarter than you are, and has whatever it is that the other girls are missing. Just out of curiosity, how many girls are there?”

I laughed, “Wow. You got all that? Just from a few minutes yesterday and today?”

“I observed just like you did. I saw a bunch of signs. How many?”

“Five, I guess. But the California girl is lesbian, so despite the fact that she was my first choice, that’s going nowhere.”

“And the last piece falls into place! There IS a girl, but you can’t have her.”

I nodded, “Now that we’ve analyzed the situation, what do you want to do?”

“Well, there are three possibilities. First, we say goodbye and go our separate ways. Second, we keep in touch and when the crisis with your friend has passed, we go to dinner and see what happens.”

“And the third possibility?” I asked.

“Third, we cut to the chase and go knock boots,” she said with an inviting smile. “We’ll see if you are as good as you seem to think you are!”

I laughed, “Excuse me? I’ve said nothing of the sort!”

“You didn’t have to. In fact, the fact that you said nothing, that you’re not flirting, and that you’re not even trying, means you have extreme confidence in who you are and your, ahem, skills.”

“Are you sure you’re not working on a psychology degree?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Psych major for my undergrad degree. I wanted to be able to figure people out.”

“Ah, so you’re cheating!” I teased.

“No more than you are. You coldly and coolly analyzed me like I think you would one of your computer programs. In fact, the only thing you’ve said that was even slightly risqué was your comment about curling my toes. You’re a cool customer, Steve Adams.”

“And so are you, future Doctor Jessica Wilton.”

“So, which option?” she grinned.

“The middle one. I think you’ll make a good friend. Let’s stick to that for now, shall we?”

“Friends like your other ‘friends’,” she asked, making air quotes.

“That is not what I meant. Not that it isn’t tempting, but right now, I’m preoccupied with Bethany. And, as I said, I may well marry her. Let’s be friends, Jessica Wilton.”

“Deal, Steve Adams,” she said. “You passed the test. You made the right choice.”

I smiled and nodded, then drained the last of the tea from my cup. Jessica wrote out her name, address, and phone number. I did the same and we said goodbye and I headed back towards Bethany’s room.

Jessica was interesting, but at the moment, the last thing I needed was any more complications in my life. That said, she struck me as someone that I would very much like to have as a friend. As she’d observed, I didn’t need any new sex partners. But friends, especially very smart ones, were something I could always use.

When I got back upstairs, Bethany was awake again, and talking with her mom.

“Hi Sweetheart!” I said.

“Hi Steve,” she said.

I walked over and gave her a careful kiss on the lips.

“How are you doing?”

“Probably about like I look. They cut off my hair?”

“A lot of it. They had to stitch a nasty laceration. I’m sure it’ll grow back.”

She sighed, “The orthopedic surgeon was here while you were getting your tea. I have surgery scheduled for Monday. I guess it’s going to be similar to Melanie’s.”

“I would guess,” I replied, then smirked, “Do I need to make the same promise to you so that you do your rehab?”

She smiled, “We don’t have a Prom!”

“We’ll make our own!” I answered. “Speaking of which, I thought about calling UW and to see if you can still finish your project and graduate. You told me that you had enough credits.”

“I do. But I don’t know that I can work on my project while I’m in the hospital, or even in Milford.”

“I’m sure between your parents, my sister, and me, we can make sure you get whatever materials or help you need. Wasn’t your research done?”

“I need to revise it based on the critiques from my professors, and then defend it in front of the department chairman,” she sighed. “It’s kind of like a Master’s thesis. I don’t know if I’ll be up to that even by May.”

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 39 Out With the Old in With the New

January 1981, Milford, Ohio On Friday morning, I called Kara as I had promised. We agreed to go out on Saturday evening. After completing my call to Kara, I called Bethany to see if she wanted to have lunch or dinner. “Both!” she said. “As long as your sister can come with us.” “Don’t trust yourself alone with me?” I quipped. “That will be the day, Steve Adams! Just pick me up around 11:00am.” “See you then!” I went to find Stephanie and let her know she was going out with Bethany and...

October 4, 1986, Chicago, Illinois Later that evening, I told Bethany that Kara and Jessica had agreed to the date, and that I’d made the reservations. She stayed in with Kara and me, and we watched television and ate popcorn. Tasha had come for her usual homework session, but had left immediately afterwards, saying that she was going home so that she could go to church on Sunday morning. “Anyone interested in a sauna?” Josie asked. “Sure,” I said. “Is Jesse joining us?” “Yes! Jenny will...

May 1981 — Milford/Cincinnati, Ohio “Steve Adams, I promised to fuck you to within an inch of your life, and that’s what I’m going to do. If you can walk out of this hotel tomorrow morning, I’ve failed!” “I do need to be able to walk out, as well as drive home!” I protested with a laugh. “True. So maybe only to within two inches. Or is it just over six?” she giggled. “Cute, Bethany, cute!” I chuckled. “And,” she smirked, licking her lips with the tip of her tongue, “I have a very special...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 49 Revelation

February 1981, Milford, Ohio Sunday was Krista’s first day with Beth and me. I noticed that Stephanie hung out with us far more than usual. I suspected that she was keeping an eye on Krista because everyone knew Krista had been flirting with me the whole year. She had just turned fourteen, which meant that my age restriction rules wouldn’t apply. I found it amusing that the girls were analyzing all the threats. It was almost like the military assessing enemies and preparing contingencies....

September/October 1980, Milford, Ohio On Sunday after I called Karin, I had my weekly ‘play date’ with Debbie V, and she helped me pick out a gift for Karin, as her birthday was coming up and I wanted to send it so she could get it in time. I spent the rest of the day with Beth, working on computer dating and programming stuff. Bethany had come over for a few hours in the afternoon and hung out with us. I also let Beth know that the following Sunday we’d only have a short day because I had a...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 34 The Problem of Being Me

November 1980, Milford, Ohio On Thursday, I had my usual date with Elyse. We were still just good friends, and I didn’t expect that to change anytime soon. On Friday, Bethany and I went to dinner at Ponderosa and had steaks and baked potatoes. Once we finished, I paid, and we walked quickly to the car, driving straight to the apartment. We had our clothes off in seconds after closing the door. “I need you to fuck me silly,” Bethany growled. I pulled her to me and kissed her hard, our...

March 4, 1990, Chicago, Illinois “Well?” Kara asked with a smirk as she, Jessica, and I sat down to a quiet dinner in the ‘Indian’ room. “About as wild as could be. I was more than a little concerned by Abbie’s plan, but in the end, when she told me why, it made perfect sense.” “What was her reasoning?” Jessica asked. “She felt that it had to be raw sex and nothing more, because otherwise Becka would never have left.” Kara giggled, “Abbie seems to get smarter every day.” “I never had a...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 8 Tentative Steps

April 6, 1986, Chicago, Illinois It had been a wonderful ten days with Jessica in Chicago, and both Kara and I were sad to see her packing her things for her trip back to Indianapolis. We’d had a very good taste of what life would be like once Jessica was in Chicago full-time, but that was still more than a year away. Between now and then, we’d be apart more than we were together. “We’ll miss you, Babe,” I said as I put her bag into the back seat of her car. “I’ll miss you both! I’ll see...

May-June 1981, Milford, Ohio I woke up on Friday morning with the song Efter Plugget going through my head. «Nu är det bara en sommar kvar Ungefärg 59 dar Så ska man göra som alla andra Man ska in i cirkeln och vandra» (Now there’s just a Summer left Just about 59 days Now I’ll do like everyone else and join the rat race) Of course, the song didn’t really apply, since I did have a plan and knew what I was going to do, but it still came to mind. July-August 1980, Milford, Ohio On Sunday morning, Stephanie and I swam and ate breakfast before she went to church with mom. I had thought about going to church, but really had no interest in doing so. I suspected Mom would have had quite a bit to say about me going to church given my ‘sinful, immoral, and deviant’ lifestyle. I guess I helped make a mess of her life, so I feel a bit of an obligation to help put it back together.” “No way, Babe! A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 23 A New Flame

September, 1980, Milford, Ohio Things with Bethany seemed normal on Thursday. After school, I helped Mrs. Seime with the YFU Exchange Program presentation. There were six sophomores who participated, and I spoke for about five minutes about my experiences and answered questions. In my judgment, only one of the students was truly a serious candidate, a Sophomore girl named Jo Filmore. I talked to her after the presentation a bit and she said she’d fill out an application. I told her I’d be...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 26 Confrontations and Connections

September 1980, Milford, Ohio When I arrived home after my date with Joyce, Stephanie came to sit in my room and talk. “Hey, Squirt!” I said. “Hey, Big Brother,” she said, seeming a bit down. “What’s wrong?” “Oh, a few things. The most important one is that I’m worried about Bethany. I talked to her today, and she’s really fixated on the idea that you two are going to be married and live happily ever after. I know she’s told you that she’s OK with all the other girls, but I don’t think...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 43 Firsts Part IV

January 1981, Milford, Ohio On Monday, when I sat down beside Kara in chemistry class, she reached over and squeezed my hand. “Kara, let’s have lunch, I need to tell you what happened on Saturday.” “OK. I’ll meet you at the computer lab.” I dropped my hand to her knee and squeezed as the bell rang and Kara smiled. At lunch, I stopped to tell Bethany I’d be talking to Kara and then went to the computer lab. Kara arrived just about the same time I did. I unlocked the door, and we went...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 31 Stephie and Jason

October 19, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “How was Indianapolis?” I asked Kara when I found her studying in the ‘Indian’ room. “Great! Jess and I had a wonderful time sitting around her apartment in our pajamas, cuddling, and talking. How was Wisconsin?” “Great! Bethany and I had a wonderful time sitting around the suite in our pajamas, cuddling, and talking!” “I KNOW that’s not true!” she laughed. “Is everything good between you two?” “It is. She’s ready to move forward. I’d expect that she...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 46 Dumb Boy Part III

January 1981, Milford, Ohio “Tell me, Steve, why the fuck I should even think about having sex with a stupid bastard like you?” “Because we love each other, Stephanie.” “Didn’t I tell you that if you fucked Becky, I would never sleep with you? And you did it anyway, didn’t you?” “Yes, you did. And I did. I screwed up. I know I did. What can I do to make it up?” “Steve!” she said, waving off my words, “What exactly does that conniving bitch have that you would be willing to throw away...

A WellLived Life Book 2 JenniferChapter 9 Melanie and Bethany

June 1978 On Sunday morning I awoke well-rested. I ate breakfast and told Mom I wanted to go to church with them. She said ‘OK’, so I went to shower and dress for church. I saw Larry but not Jennie. Larry and I grabbed some juice after service and talked briefly. He wondered if I wanted to play some chess during the week and I readily agreed. We agreed he would come to my house on Tuesday night. When we got home I tried to talk to Mom again. She actually responded to my apology and accepted...

May 17, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “Dance with me!” Leila insisted when I came into the sunroom. I took her hand and led her to the dance area, then took her into my arms. “When do you leave for home?” I asked. “Tuesday. I’ll be back in August. Thanks for letting us move in!” “You’re welcome,” I said. “So does everyone who lives here get privileges?” she whispered. I chuckled, “Dave lives here, so I think the answer to that is a resounding ‘no’!” She laughed, “You know what I...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 47 The Triumvirate Part I

January 1981, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning in chemistry class, Kara kissed my cheek and let me know that she’d spoken to Bethany. They were going to get together with Stephanie after school. Kara would talk to me once they had decided what to do. I thanked Kara again for loving me enough to forgive me. At lunch, Bethany told me to go sit with Kara at the ‘Holy Rollers’ table. Tracey stopped me as I turned to head there. “Steve, where are you going?” “To sit with Kara. It’s complicated...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 48 The Triumvirate Part II

February 1981, Milford, Ohio Sunday followed the usual pattern of a call to Karin, swimming and breakfast with Stephanie, and then doing homework until Beth arrived. When Beth arrived, I talked with her about an problem that we’d have to solve, and probably soon. If she was at U of I and I was at IIT, we’d have no real way of providing support to our customers in and around Cincinnati. I suggested we find a Freshman or Sophomore to help us over the Summer and after we went to Chicago. “Why...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 35 Debbie V

November 1980, Milford, Ohio I woke up with my alarm on Saturday, extremely tired, but in a far better mental state. I met Stephanie in the pool and she easily lapped me several times. I was sore and exhausted from the previous night’s swim, but I struggled through my usual 50 laps. When we finished, I took a long, hot shower before meeting Stephanie for breakfast. “Are you going to take my advice, Big Brother?” “Well, I’m going to talk to Bethany for sure. I’ll call her at 9:00am and ask...

March/April 1981, Milford, Ohio I had half-expected Stephanie to sneak into my room on Sunday night, but to my combined relief and regret, she didn’t. We were up early to swim and she once again looked around for any observers and gave me a quick kiss. “I missed sleeping with you last night, Big Brother,” she whispered. “I wanted to come to your room, but I knew it was too dangerous!” “We’ll find some time, Squirt, I promise!” “Good!” she whispered, “My pussy feels so empty!” “Just your...

April 1981, Milford, Ohio On Saturday morning, after swimming and breakfast, Stephanie and I started setting up for Bethany’s birthday party. We were doing it at lunchtime because I would be in the play that evening. Stephanie and I were invited to her house on Sunday for her family celebration as well. I was happy the day had turned out nice, given we were planning on grilling hamburgers. I loaded the charcoal into the grill, and then Stephanie and I formed the hamburger into patties. I...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 17 Senior Year Begins

August 1980, Milford, Ohio On Monday morning, Stephanie and I got up early enough to swim and eat breakfast together. Stephanie was starting eighth grade, so she’d be riding Bus #8 with me. Unfortunately, Jeff was also on the same bus, but I didn’t really worry to much about that because of what I planned to do. My first order of business, when I got to school, would be to get a parking pass which Seniors could get automatically just by asking. I also knew that Mom would then insist that I...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 50 Myth and Reality

February 1981, Milford, Ohio On Wednesday, Kara simply smiled at me when I walked into chemistry class, rather than greeting me with a kiss. I knew that she and I had to have a long talk, so I didn’t let it bother me. I wasn’t quite ready to talk to her yet, thinking that Friday night would be best when we could be alone for an extended time. Of course, there was a question of whether or not she was willing to go out with me. “Kara, can I see you Friday night?” I asked. “Of course! We’re...

February 23, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “We’ll talk about it next weekend,” I said. “Not now?” Jessica asked. “Are you sure that you’re OK?” “Yes and no. It really was the only thing that could happen with Bethany. I told you that about a month ago.” “So you were prepared?” Kara asked. “As much as I could be,” I sighed. “I think everyone pretty much expected this to happen. But that doesn’t make it any easier.” “Where will she go?” Kara asked. “I’m hoping she’ll move in with Kathy and...

She stepped aside and dropped her carry-on bag and I pulled her into a tight hug. I immediately started crying. “Damnit, Yankee! December 1980, Milford, Ohio and Boyne Mountain, Michigan The rest of December followed the pattern that had been set at the beginning of the month, but now Debbie was seeing Phillip every Saturday. I didn’t invite Kara out because I wanted her to think things through, but I saw her in chemistry class and at lunch and told her that we would talk after I returned from Columbus. A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 29 Kara and Tracey

October 1980, Milford, Ohio Thursday and Friday were normal and Dona didn’t bother Bethany. I was glad, but I was a bit concerned that there would be more fallout. I hoped that wouldn’t be the case, but experience told me that there might be. On Friday morning, the Student Council started handing out the computer dating sheets. I got mine and wasn’t surprised to see Bethany at the top of the list. Kathy and Mary were fourth and fifth, respectively, and Erin was ninth. The rest were a mix of...

December 1980, Milford, Ohio “How was your trip to Indianapolis?” Debbie asked in the car on Monday morning. “Pretty good. And very tame, actually. Katt had competition skating every day, so we were in bed early.” “I bet!” Mary giggled. “Believe it or not, we were asleep by 10:00pm both Friday and Saturday nights. Katt and I made love once each day. Well, Friday afternoon was pretty wild, but she’d already finished her skating for the day,” I said. “You mean to tell me that, except for...

March 1981, Milford, Ohio On Saturday morning, Stephanie and I swam, then ate breakfast. Dad loaded up the car for the drive to Myrtle Beach just after 9:00am. Mom tried one last time to talk him into making Stephanie go along, but he resisted, saying that he’d already told her she could stay. Mom objected vehemently to Stephanie being around me, but she knew that argument wouldn’t work with Dad. November 1980, Milford, Ohio Sunday was typical, with my phone calls, working with Beth, and my play date with Debbie. What came out of the blue, just after Beth left, was a call from Joyce. She told me that her mom had wondered why we weren’t seeing each other except at her grandfather’s house. Joyce was afraid that would get back to her grandfather and might cause problems. She wondered if I would come to dinner at their house on Saturday. That was the day before I was planning to see Don...

April 24, 1987, Chicago, Illinois We had our usual business development meeting on Friday morning. July 1980, Milford, Ohio On Saturday morning, Jennifer took me home after breakfast. We planned to go out that evening for dinner and a movie. I kissed her goodbye in the car, then got out, waving as she drove away. My bubble of happiness was quickly burst as I walked inside and my mom was waiting there, anger in her face. “Stephen, I can’t believe your father allows this immorality! And what’s worse, that those girls’ parents allow it!” “Mom,” I said carefully, trying to keep my temper...
