He let the jets turn off and using the wings to glide with he practiced a forward glide with a stall and a quick thrust of the jets to break his fall. Kim may be good at doing this he thought but, I've never done this before and I could get killed. The earth rushed up to him and just before he hit tree top level he kicked in the up thrust of the rockets. When he could feel himself being lifted again he cut the motors. He fell. The best description she'd been able to give was being chained and imprisoned. She depended on others entirely for her care. As tonight had illustrated she could do nothing for herself. Whether she ate, drank, or had clean clothes depended on someone else to do for her. Lisa constantly feared that one day she would lose her mother or her brother or worse yet, both of them. Lisa's other complaint was lack of involvement. She could not play with others. She could only sit and watch. It was the reason she both loathed and loved video games. She could sit before the TV all day and have some interaction with the game but it meant that she had no relationship with anyone around her. Also the games she could play were very simple ones as the harder ones required physical motor abilities she simply did not possess. If it couldn't do that and it seemed too much to hope that it could, maybe it could modify her condition so that she could at least be self- sufficient and have interpersonal relationships with others in the world. Jeremy and Lisa one day had sat down at the Internet in the local library and surfed for any ideas on the different ways something might be done to help her. Ideas had ranged across a broad field. The one that had appealed to them both though was impossible. That was to encase her body in a titanium alloy cryogenic life support chamber. The chamber known as a shell, depended only on a power supply to keep the occupant alive. Training and fiber optic implants directly to the brain allowed the occupant to control servos and other systems for sensory input. The best examples of this idea were two science fiction books called "The Ship Who Sang" and "The Ship Who Searched". The advantage of the shell was that with its fiber optic leads it could be plugged into any mechanism and become its brain. A factory network, a city network, a spaceship or other similar system became the shell person's body. As Jeremy and Lisa had discussed shell person design Lisa had stated that she would want the shell to look similar to R2D2's. She thought that tracks would be better than wheels for getting around rough terrain. She also said she would want to plug her shell into a Bolo. Jeremy had been shocked that his sister wanted to be a giant super tank. "Why?" he'd asked. "Because then I could protect you from the evil people just like you look after me. No one would hurt you like those evil people did to all those people in the buildings." They joked that it was their LTV - Lisa Terrain Vehicle. Jeremy turned to Lisa, "I found something really unique yesterday Lisa," he explained. "It's a machine that can transform you into anyone you can imagine. Yesterday I became Kim Possible. I think I can use it to help you." Lisa did not believe Jeremy. Such things might exist in stories and TV but Lisa knew enough not to believe they happened in real life. "Okay look I'll turn into Kim Possible again." he said. "No too easy. It just barely fit. He instructed her to push the purple crystal, which was just within her reach when she was ready. He backed out of the box. Lisa touched the crystal and the door vanished. Jeremy counted slowly under his breath. He knew the change took about nine seconds from his own experience. The door vanished and a miniature tank with a blue and chrome gun free turret came lurching toward him. It veered one way and then another. Jeremy jumped to one side to avoid getting struck. He landed face down, prone on the dirt and hay covered floor. "That hurt!" he thought. His new anatomy had its own tender spots and he'd just found six of them all at once. He ran towards her. The turret swiveled and the machine backed away from the fence. Appendages sprang out and spun as the dome rotated at high speed. Maniacal laughter or shrieks of pain rang out at siren levels from the device. It turned down the drive towards the main road, and a strange voice sang out, "Run! Run! Run as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the wonder machine!" Twin vortices of the dry summer dirt rose up from the treads as the machine sped away. Jeremy stopped stunned by what he'd just seen and heard. He looked around trying to figure out what to do next and saw his bike. He jumped on it and pedaled as quick as he could. He got to the gate over a quarter-mile from the house out of breath. He stopped, his torso rising and sinking in great heaves as he tried to catch his breath. He looked at the ground trying to figure out if Lisa had been this way. It's soooo wonderful," she responded. "You don't sound okay. You sound funny," Jeremy said. He relaxed and walked over to Lisa. He bent down to take a better look at her hull and carapace. He saw a plastic panel with a series of labels and red and green diodes next to them. Cryogenic Support, Cryogenic Pressure, Brain Function, Battery Level, Solar Panel Function, Charging System, Energy Level, Neural Network, all were green except Direct Charging System which was red and made sense because Lisa was not plugged into a power outlet somewhere. Even now he tried not to stare at the muscular picture next to him. He found it difficult to concentrate on the strap on his wrist. He couldn't tell what they were or what they might mean. He touched the ruby crystal thinking about his normal body. The machine didn't respond. The symbols just kept scrolling. Jeremy struck the crystal with his palm trying to get it to respond. The symbols scrolled. "Come on you dumb machine," he said. He struck it again. The symbols continued scrolling. He started pressing the purple crystal. "What's wrong you dumb thing?" he said panic starting to set in. "It's repeating," Lisa said. "Huh?" Jeremy turned to look at her. "The symbols are repeating themselves. About every two minutes they start to repeat," Lisa said. "How can you tell?" Jeremy said. "Memory, I guess. I can hold a picture up in my mind of the complete original set of symbols and compare that to what is displayed now. They're the same," Lisa said. "Do you know what they mean?" Jeremy asked. Lisa's turret shook back and forth in a negative manner, "No" she said, "it is some sort of writing that appears to be totally alien. I can't think of anything I ever saw that looks like it." "Maybe it's low on power or something," Jeremy said. He started to examine the box but found nothing except the purple and red crystals and the black panel. Lisa scanned the device with all of the electronic, visual and sonic sensory abilities at her disposal. In moments she realized that the entire thing was very advanced quantum mechanics systems. "It's not from Earth," she said. "What?" Jeremy asked. "The device is not from Earth and it's not out of power either, but I don't know why it isn't working," Lisa said. "How do you know?" Jeremy asked. "The same way I know you've got four ovaries. I looked," Lisa said. "So what do we do now?" Jeremy asked. "I don't know. I'm not the older brother. Go home I guess," Lisa responded. "What are you crazy? We can't go home like this. Mom'll freak and we'll end up in jail or worse - a government science lab. Remember that doctor in X-2. What do you think someone like that would do to us?" Jeremy said. "Well what do you want to do? You're the one that wants to change," Lisa said. "Let's feed the animals while I think about it," Jeremy said. Jeremy tried to think of what to do next. He couldn't. All he could think of was that he had six breasts and a vagina. "A big city, somewhere we won't be noticed," Jeremy said. "Jeremy, I'll get noticed anywhere. Chicago, New York, Philadelphia just don't have shell people or droids," Lisa replied. "Yeah, but I was thinking Springfield or Kansas City would be okay. I don't want to go too far. If anyone gets too nosy we'll act like you're a robot that reacts to my voice or the kimmunicator," Jeremy said. That was something Lisa thought she could do. "When do you want to leave?" Lisa asked. "Look I can't leave the animals without food tomorrow. Besides I was paid to feed them. It would be dishonest not to. We need to hide somewhere until then and we need to hide my bike somewhere," Jeremy said. "What about here?" Lisa asked. "No. Mom will check here first thing 'cause she knows I was feeding the Taylor's animals," Jeremy said. After a few minutes he said, "I know. We can go to the Fisher's old barn. It's been abandoned a while and it's pretty far off the main road so no one will go there. On the way we'll stop by our house and I'll get my money and a few clothes. Maybe leave a note for Mom telling her we've run away."
