CHAPTER FIVE I headed on to our moon world knowing Supergirl was all right. I wanted to make sure the lizards in the shuttle on our moon didn't give us any grief. I grabbed a couple of the poles that missed the starship and headed toward the lake where we left the collars. The poles pulled from my grasp at about 5 miles up when the gravity and momentum got too strong for me. I stopped a mile up and watched as both impacted in the clearing where the shuttle was. When the dust cleared the shuttle was on its side and one pole was sticking out of a stubby wing. Now I started looking for the crew. I picked up a trail and spotted one lizard taking off towards the lake. I followed him and shot an energy bolt from my hands. The lizard folded up and slid twenty feet across the ground into another tree. I began looking for more of the lizards that were on the shuttle. I'd discovered there were six when I started tracking their trails. I followed a trail that had another single lizard. This one I discovered was hiding in a nearby group of rocks. Fortunately, I saw the glint of sun on a polished surface. I was able to come around from a flanking direction and stun that lizard. I made sure this one was tied up. Once again I came back to the shuttle looking for the group trail that I'd seen earlier. I hovered a moment studying the site before I moved off. Something hit my back. It burned and shocked at the same time. My body went rigid, my teeth clenched. I blacked out. I became conscious of pain first. My legs and ankles were tied and being pulled. My wrists and shoulders ached from the pulling on them. Then my wings and back hurt from upward pulling on them. As I became fully conscious I discovered I was suspended at an angle with my feet off the ground about two feet and my head about six feet. My limbs were pulled away from my body so that I was in a spread-eagled position. I faced downward and the cables holding me gave no slack. My hands were numb so I couldn't move them. As I looked around I saw lizard feet a few feet away. "Ahh, you're awake," a lizard said off to my right. I looked over to see one that might be Healer. "If you cooperate I believe this will go well for you. If not...well it could be very painful. Do you understand?" Healer asked. I nodded yes. "I can't tell if that means yes. So let?s give you a sample of what I mean. I heard a whistle of something rushing through the air. Then fire burned across my butt biting deep into my flesh. I gasped and then screamed. "Good I'm glad to see we can evoke a pain response. I was worried that you might not feel pain when I saw how fast you healed. This way however, I can be very rough without worrying about permanent damage. You would have made an entertaining slave. Now tell me are you going to cooperate?" Healer asked. "Yes, oh shit, don't hit me with that again," I sobbed. Tears coursed down my nose dripping off the end to the ground below. "We'll see. Where's your friend?" he asked. "In space," I replied. "In space where?" he fired back. "Up there," I replied between sobs. I was starting to get back in control. The whip struck between my wings, down my back. Stars erupted in my eyes and I shrieked in agony. "Be more specific," Healer said dispassionately. "Up there, with your ship," I gasped out. My body trembled, suspended by the cables that held me. The vibrations from my movements only seemed to intensify the agony. "Oh, she's been captured and you thought somehow to escape by attacking us. Foolish notion," Healer said. I didn't say anything. Let him think what he wanted. I noticed I could flex my fingers a little. The paralysis was wearing off. "How did you kill our Captain?" Healer asked. "What?" I said, totally astonished. The whip struck between my legs. I gasped in agony and shrieked until I gasped for air. I was sure I was burned and bleeding there under my loincloth. "How did you kill our Captain?" Healer repeated calmly. "I?I didn't kill your Captain. He was asleep and breathing when I left," I said. The whip struck across my breasts and burned with an intensity that took my breath away. Tears leaked out of my eyes but I was in too much agony to cry. "You admit you killed him. But how did you do it? There was no mark upon him. It was as if he was suddenly emptied of his essence," Healer said. "I didn't kill him. He was alive when I left. It's the truth," I said bracing for the whip. It wrapped around my neck choking me and burning in its grasp. Things started to go black. "You will die for killing our Captain, but it will be less painful if you tell me how you did it," Healer said. He bent down so he could see my eyes. Tears and mucous dripped from my nose. Blood soaked the cups of my top where the whip had struck the unprotected flesh. My crotch screamed in agony as well as my butt and legs where the whip had touched me. My back, arm, and leg muscles screamed at the strain on them. I was being drawn and quartered. "Please believe me, when I say I did not kill him. I wished it had been the guard with the whip. "Did you provide more than one leaving to the wingless creature like this one?" It would be hard to say if this lizard was embarrassed but it seemed that he was when he replied, "Yes Healer, I deposited two leavings with the wingless one." "How do you feel now?" Healer asked. "I am well. However, I feel urgency in my groin that I have never experienced before and my rod stands ready to couple. You know I'm going to have to remove those claws of yours. You of course will have to be punished for your disobedience," Healer stated. He gestured to the guard with the whip. The first stroke ripped across my breasts again. I tried to cover them with my hands, when another stroke ripped across my stomach. "I suggest you release her very gently and carefully, or I will happily take that whip and ram it down your throat and pull it out the other end," a familiar voice said in my ear. Lara stood off to the side behind Healer and the other guards. He turned and saw Lara flying there, "You!? What are you doing here? I thought you were on-board our ship," Healer said. "I was. After I ripped out the engines I came down here to see what Dawnstrike was screaming about," Lara said. She stood there floating twenty feet above the ground. Her arms crossed like she had all the time in the world and was waiting patiently for the lizards to understand. "Now are you going to do like I asked and release her or shall I do what I said?" Lara said. Healer gestured at the guards and they suddenly fired their beam weapons at her. I was totally unprepared for the assault. I think Lara expected it though. She took one hand out, looked at her fingernails and then acted as if she was buffing them on her cape. The beams splashed harmlessly off her. Then she looked at Healer and the guards. It looked as if she blew them a kiss. They all went bowling over into the woods. Suddenly, I was falling to the ground. Only Lara caught me and laid me gently on the ground. Her heat vision also quickly parted the cables on my ankles and the remaining bands on my wrists. I heard a roar as someone leaped at Lara's back. A long wicked blade shattered across her back. She stood up and grabbed the assailant at neck and crotch. She tossed him over the trees. The guy with the whip struck at her next. She suddenly wasn't visible anymore. Then the guard appeared with the whip pinning his arms to his body and the end was stuffed down his throat. The other lizards were soon wrapped in the cable, which had held me. "Do you surrender?" Lara asked as she stood over Healer with her boot firmly planted on his chest. "Yes, I acquiesce," Healer replied. I felt better and was struggling to my feet. Suddenly Lara was at my side. "Are you okay? My God, if I'd known I'd have come sooner. Why didn't you call?" "I didn't want to cause a problem until you had the ship stopped," I replied. "But torture? I could've managed. Besides they had their hands full after I ripped into their hull and took their power plant out," Lara said, "Can you fly?" "No, there's too much damage to the wing structure at the joints. It'll be fine in a day or two." I said. The wounds were healing as we spoke. The pain was fading to a memory. I was embarrassed at how much I cried when there was actually little physical damage. I glanced over to the whip lying on the ground. It made me shudder. "Now what?" I asked. "Well, we still don't know anything about the box and my mom and dad are probably back by now. So, we're not going to get in any worse trouble than we are now. Let's go on back to that trade station and see what we can find out. Besides we need to make sure these guys don't come after us again," Lara stated. She stood looking up into the sky thinking about what she said. She really did have a beautiful jaw line. Part of me wanted to nuzzle and rub against it but I also wondered if it was a little more chiseled and had a five o' clock shadow if somehow it wouldn't feel nicer. "If it's okay, I'll take you up to the ship and then come back and get these guys?" Lara said, "You'll still be able to breathe in space, right?" "No problem," I replied. "Will it be okay on board their ship?" "Yeah, they've acquiesced and I guess that makes me their official leader until a Queen Mother intercedes. Whatever that means?" she said nonchalantly. Lara lifted me easily into her arms. I found myself wondering what would it be like if those arms were a little more muscled? What if the chest was broader and muscled instead of those cute little perky breasts? I entered the ship and found the lizards were very deferential to me. I still didn't understand the "Queen Mother" title they bestowed on Lara and I but I preferred this behavior to the master slave routine of before. Lara quickly returned with the lizards from the planet below. I gathered our belongings from the different places they'd been strewn for study or whatever. I found a smaller lizard man that didn't make me feel so intimidated and asked him for his help. I began searching their computer system for information on the transformation box. What I found wasn't very helpful but it gave me a few clues. The Gemalfi Corporation of a race named Fwirthi had created a device called a Morphic Adaptation Unit. The Fwirthi used them to change their shape into the most needed shape for the job at hand and when the task was completed, reverted back. There were various model numbers but by far the most common was the Mark V, which matched the description of the box we'd found. An interstellar war actually developed over the sale and distribution of these units. Other races saw them as an insidious device that would be used to take over control of their governments. Most races outlawed their use. Ultimately the other races banded together against the Fwirthi and destroyed their empire. Use of a Morphic Adaptation Unit remained outlawed and the penalty for use of one ranged from imprisonment to death. Although all of this information was helpful there was nothing about what I needed to know. There was no description of how the devices worked. I still needed more information. It took nearly a day and a half for Lara to tow us back to the trading station. This time she didn't hesitate to go right in. As we neared the station it was interesting to watch numerous starships suddenly depart the system. Once we were docked, I asked Lara how she felt. "I'm really tired," she said. "Do you feel like you have enough energy?" I asked. "Yeah, I do. I'm not losing any that I can tell. So I'd say I'm holding my own right now," she said. "Well get some rest and I'll see if I can find out any more information about the box and then we can leave," I said. She agreed. It took a while for me to find an information or library terminal. This one had a built in translation circuit. It only took a few minutes to find the information I was searching for. When I read through the information I was stunned. I sat staring at the screen. I went back and read it again. And again and again. We were trapped. When first activated the Mark V operated for almost four days in demo mode. After which a deposit of 52,495 Fwirthi Rakburs to the Gemalfi Corporation was required. If no deposit was made the device would reconfigure back into its storage position. Since the device reads the "thoughts" of the user, there was no way the same device would reactivate for an original user. Lara and I had been gone four days maybe even five. How were we to make a deposit of fifty thousand Fwirthi Rakburs to a corporation in an empire that no longer existed, much less get fifty thousand Rakburs, whatever they were? I searched for more information even reading how to operate earlier models, later models, and beta models. I looked for cheat codes, crack codes and backdoors. I discovered the safety limits such as no physical harm and no reduction in intelligence. There was nothing though on how to get a device to reset back for one last change. I even thought of trying to find another Mark V and trying to use it. There was no answer. We were stuck. How could I face Lara? She'd kill me. Only this time she'd toss me into a sun to make sure it was permanent. After she used that neuro-electro whip on me herself. I walked back to where the ship was docked. Flying would've been way too quick. As it was, I got there sooner than I was ready for. I walked into the ship hardly acknowledging the guard that let me in. I barely noticed the flurry of activity around me. Suddenly, I was standing outside Captain's quarters where Lara was resting. I nodded to the huge hulking guard at the door. I hadn't seen anyone this big before. He was at least a quarter larger than Captain who I thought was the largest lizard around. Lara stirred as I walked over to the bench. "Morning or afternoon or whatever," she said. "How do you feel?" I asked. "A little tired still but, otherwise fine," she said. I watched her stretch. Her breasts stood out firmly. The nipples were evident through the thin fine clingy cloth. Her arms were slim and feminine although well muscled. Would she be okay being Supergirl from now on? The outside guard entered the room. I ignored him as Lara spoke. "How'd it go? Did you find out anything?" she asked. "Probably everything we need to know," I said. "Great! We'll get our stuff and get out of here," Lara said. I noticed he was actually hunched over to keep his head from hitting the ceiling. "Queen Mother?" we echoed in unison. "Yes, she docked a few hours ago and would like to discuss your situation with you, Queen Mothers," he replied. I looked at Lara she was as baffled as I was. We both shrugged our shoulders. "Might as well find out what she wants," Lara said, "And if she has a problem with us leaving we'll change her mind." I was glad for an excuse to delay the inevitable. I agreed with Lara. "We can come now," Lara said. The guard lead us across the trading station to a distant dock. We walked across a platform that was exposed to space. We walked in an airless void except for the force field tube we were inside. We passed through a number of defensive positions leading to a huge starship. We both saw the ground infantry as well as mechanized ground infantry. Once we realized the direction we were headed it was easy to spot the Queen Mother's ship. If I thought our ship looked as big as a skyscraper on it's side this behemoth resembled a mountain. We had been able to see it ever since we left our ship. We just hadn't recognized it for what it was. The guards that checked our entrance into the ship were easily as large as the one that guided us here. Four fell into place behind us as we entered the ship. The corridors on our ship were big enough to drive a car through. These were large enough to drive a semi through. I wondered why they wasted such space. Even our guards didn't need that much room. We entered a spacious lift and climbed for a long time. When we got out we walked only a short distance to a wide doorway. As we entered the room a number of the huge lizards streamed out around us. I thought the Captain's rooms were spacious and huge. They were also dim and warm. This room was murky, hot, and cavernous. I could not see the ceiling above and I was only able to see a dim form in the distance. A voice called to us, "I am called Rainbow Moons, Queen Mother of the Noble Chosen and daughter of the High Queen Mother, Silent Suns. Thank you for coming. Please come closer that we may counsel together." Lara and I looked at each other shrugged and continued closer. I don't know what I was expecting but this was not it. A large stone bench four times the size of Captain's filled the end of the cavern. Upon it was a huge lizard that dwarfed the bench. I was reminded of the stories I'd read about dragons. This creature could have modeled as one except she did not have wings. Her eyes were bright gold and vertically slitted. Her head and mouth made me think she could swallow me whole. Each claw was as big as my hand. Lizard blood encrusted her claws. Her scales were thick and hard. I noticed in places they bore scars and even a few looked as if they'd been recently injured. Some looked like they'd been re-grown. This lizard was easily five times as big as Captain. If I had any doubts as to that fact, his desiccated head along with those of Healer of Animals and the others that had raped Lara were lined up on the floor in front of the bench. I suddenly realized that while I had been at the information terminal and Lara asleep some major things had happened. Things we should have known about or been told about sooner. "I have been sent by the Council of High Queen Mothers to investigate the actions of these traitors. As you can see I have already rendered judgment concerning their actions. I would like to hear your statements concerning their actions and your part in their plans. I would like to know why you attempted to mate with them?" Rainbow stated. I was just comprehending what the queen mother wanted when Lara said, "We didn't. Those five bastards raped me. The other son of a bitch coerced and seduced Jamie into having sex with him." It is certain that chaos would ensue amongst the unchosen masses," Rainbow said wistfully. "You mean once he finished with me, he just dried up, like a prune?" I asked disbelievingly. "Yes. "What about the others?" Lara stated gesturing at the other heads on the floor. "Well, Healer of Animals was supporting Captain's traitorous actions so that alone merited his death. Eventually they would have had to complete the act to diminish the pain and difficulty they were beginning to experience or they would have died anyway. In essence they were already dead. Two reasons: diversion and disgrace," Rainbow stated. "By beheading them they have been disgraced before all of the males. They are labeled as traitors and all those that served on the ship will feel that they have been tainted, either they will be more loyal or search for a group of dissidents to join. As we watch them, they will serve a purpose for us. Since all of the participants were beheaded they will forget that the Captain died after copulating with one of you. They will not link copulation with the deaths." She turned so that she faced us more clearly, "You must not tell anyone what I have told you." "Some may still link the Captain's death to our copulation," I said, "Why not say that he absorbed a toxin through our contact that killed him?" "There is merit to your suggestion," Rainbow agreed. "I suppose next is what to do about the ship you wrecked but, I would like to know why you came here in the first place," Rainbow said. "That ship attacked us first and we defended ourselves," Lara replied hotly, "and we're not paying anyone anything for that ship." "That's not what I meant," Rainbow hissed back. I interrupted her, "We were looking for information on a Fwirthi artifact." "Fwirthi?" she asked back. "Yes, some friends of ours found a Fwirthi artifact. As part of our intern study assignment we were instructed to find out all we could on the artifact and come back and report. Supergirl and I encountered a trader that told us to come here, that a Fwirthi trading port once existed here," I said earnestly. Lara was giving me a strange look. The Queen Mother's tongue flicked in and out. I was wondering how much I could say without giving away the whole show and getting us tossed into jail or worse. "The Fwirthi were insidious and disreputable although a cunning if, unimaginative race. Most races have outlawed any interaction with their artifacts. The race is largely extinct and considered scum. Those who have interchange with them are very suspect," Rainbow said speculatively. "I learned that while studying the records here," I replied, "However, I am concerned about what all their artifacts can do. It appears that someone just scattered a whole bunch of their devices throughout our territory. Anyone who doesn't know what they are dealing with could be trapped forever by their devices." "Perhaps declaring the region a navigational hazard would solve the problem. Such a hazard may include a very large volume. The innocent tend to avoid those areas and those interested in the risks generally accept the consequences," the Queen Mother said. "Perhaps that is best, but sometimes an off limits sign provokes interest," I replied. "True, but you could say that it is due to frequent quantum strings and dark matter. Most freighter captains can't afford to go near such hazards," the Queen Mother stated. I thought to myself, how will we deal with those on the planet? Any announcement would lead to widespread treasure hunters. I figured it was the best we could do for now. I was beginning to think Lara and I were going to be responsible for saving the curious. "That still doesn't answer the question of negating the effects of the Fwirthi artifacts. It appears from my studies that some of the devices just work for a short time," I said. I could feel Lara's eyebrows rise as I spoke. I could practically hear the alarm bells going off in her head. I hoped she didn't ask any awkward questions here. "There may be a solution to your problem but that depends on what you do with your ship and crew," the Queen Mother said. Our ship and crew? I thought that the ship and crew would be going with the Queen Mother. "I think we've some mistranslation," Lara queried, "I think I heard you say the ship and crew belong to us." "Yes," Rainbow Moon hissed. When a Queen Mother mates for the first time she usually captures her mates and takes possession of them. A guard escorted me back to the main station facility near our ship. From there I headed towards Darkside. Darkside was that portion of the station that was in eternal night. For whatever reason the station was largely fixed in its rotation and orbit so that about one third never received sunlight. The power system was sunside as well as most docking piers. Therefore most of the trade and businesses were sunside. The lizards had the best sunside locations since they were the current proprietors. The low rent businesses and poorer inhabitants stayed in Darkside. It was cooler there and probably accounted for why the lizards stayed away. That and it was more dangerous there. It took less time to find "Hands" than it did to find a library terminal but it still took a long time. Hands' shop was down a dark corridor that was chilly. My breath was visible and my nipples made sharp points in my top. Hands was slightly more than four feet tall and furry. His torso was long and round like a peanut shell. He had two pairs of hands. His feet seemed like they could be hands too. His head was almost indistinguishable from his torso. His face had four eyes and a narrow snout for his mouth. Hands invited me into his shop and offered me a seat. He sat down in a large wingtip overstuffed chair. On a table next to him sat a large pot. Tubes ran from the pot and hung down to the floor. Smoke or steam leaked from a lid at the top. He sipped or sucked from the end of a tube. "How do you like our station?" he asked. "I've never seen its like," I replied. I did not want to dig a hole for myself with to much commentary. I was extremely nervous about this. I had never traded or negotiated anything before. I needed Fwirthi information. In finding Hands' place I'd confirmed he was the one to see. I perched nervously on the stool he provided for me. "It is unusual, too. The only one left actually," he said. Hands asked sipping on his tube. "A hole in the left wing. Fwirthi corporations and banking terminals," I said. "A hole there could be critical. The information you want may cost even more than that," he replied. "The hole missed all critical systems. It was just hull damage. There is a missile launch system," I said. "Gemalfi is the specific one I'm looking for," I said. Hands sat up and all four eyes looked directly at me. He sipped several times from his tube. "Do you have?" he slowly asked. I nodded affirmatively, "A Mark V, in demo mode." He sighed, "A pity. The device was programmed to read the deposit confirmation code from the primary activator's mind. The device didn't need to be linked to a network and could be sold anywhere a Fwirthi bank branch existed. But the transaction confirmation codes are no longer available. The Mark VIII and later could be sold by anyone. The primary user just had to have purchased the device from a reseller." I slumped into my chair dejected. There was nothing I could do. There was no way for Lara or I to turn back to who we were. "You want an active device?" Hands asked. "Yes," I said. "Use of one here can be death," he said. I nodded in agreement. "Where we come from there is no such law yet." "Those who have such devices do not sell them," Hands said. I nodded again, "Yeah, they'd be too valuable. Hands choked and coughed on his tube. I was still trying to decide if it was a sustenance or a narcotic because I could detect no odor from the device. Oh and the power plant was forcibly removed but is being re-installed," I said brightly even though I was so nervous my knees were trembling. "A scout is only worth two hundred sixty to three hundred thirty million quartzites in good shape," he said, "The cost of legal ownership keys, avoiding questions, the poor cargo space makes them impractical and with a queen mother present it is even more difficult. If there are repairs it is even worse." "We have legal keys so there won't be any questions. Repairs are almost complete. We only want one use," I said. "Well, one use, no obvious changes, and with proper legal keys for the ship, the owner would probably agree to an exchange of trade," Hands replied. Hope soared in my chest.
