Jessie was in his bedroom with his mother Tuesday night and now he
regretted telling his mom and dad about seeing Mandy and her house
Wednesday. His dad was standing by the door looking amused and laughing
as his mom was going through his clothes.
He said, "Dad damn it I am glad you find this amusing."
Fred said, "Of course and good grief can't you watch your language.
There is your mom right there. I hope you don't like that at Mandy's

His mom put down on the bed a blue oxford style shirt, a red and blue
striped tie, and a blazer.
She told Jessie, "Now go into the bathroom and try these on."
Jessie grumbled as he took the articles of clothing that his mom wants
him to try on.
He went into the bathroom and changed out of his work shirt and put on
the oxford shirt and than he put on the tie and tied the Windsor knot
which he was surprised he still knew how to do. He than put on his
blazer and walks out to his bedroom.
His mom clasped her hands and said, "Mandy will love you tomorrow and
this is the way you should look. Unfortunately, I believe you should
cut your hair and really trim up your beard."
He looked at himself in the mirror and couldn't believe what he saw, but
he almost he didn't recognize himself.
He said, "Mom the beard and the hair stays I almost don't recognize
myself. I am looking like some city feller."
His mom looked at him exasperated and said, "If you keep talking like
that I will have your Aunt Ruth come over and you can explain to her why
you insist on speaking like some uneducated hick."
He hung his head because he knew he would lose that fight. You never
wanted to irritate Aunt Ruth by using poor grammar He spoke with
incorrect grammar in front of Aunt Ruth one time in high school and she
made him write on the chalkboard 1000 times that he wouldn't talk like a
hick anymore.
His dad was watching all of this and just couldn't stop laughing.
Jessie said, "I hope you are enjoying this."
Fred said, "I am and I might not be a very educated man but I am smart
enough to not keep shoveling when I have already dug a pretty good
hole."
Margret said, "Fred you aren't helping matters."
Fred took his cue and went into the living-room and turned on the tv.
Margret laughed and said to Jessie, "I know who your father is you and
Fred act so much alike."
Jessie laughed and said, "Well, it is nice to know you have my paternity
settled."
Jessie humored his mom letting fuss with his blazer and tie because he
learned a long time ago to allow his mom that. Fred learned that lesson
a long time ago too and well he lets her do just that.
After fussing with his tie and blazer for 5 more minutes like that was
going to make any more of a difference and she stood back to admire her
work.
She said, "Well, I must say you are a handsome man and Mandy is getting
a good man though you do choose to speak like an uneducated hick
sometimes."
After that last statement Fred was busting a gut in the living-room he
was laughing so hard.
She said, "You know you need to take something over because I understand
that Mandy was nice enough to fix you lunch and supper Friday night."
Jessie was wondering how the hell did she know that and began to think
mother's must be psychic because he didn't say a word.
Than his mom said, "I saw Mandy at the Piggly Wiggly picking some stuff
Thursday and she told me what she had planned."
He thought I keep forgetting how small this town is and than he thought
his mom was psychic because she read his mind.
She said, "This is what you need to wear and oh be at your best behavior
please I don't want her thinking that we are savages because we are a
farming community."
His mom hugged him and his dad also hugged him and he walked them out to
their car.
He bent down to the passenger side window and his mom patted on his arm.
She said, "That Mandy is a special woman even though she wasn't born
here and she has lived here for a short time."
He said, "Yes, I know mama."
His dad said, "You know every man finds himself a good woman but a good
woman only comes around once in your life. If you lose that woman you
probably won't find another one."
Jessie asked, "What about you and mamma?"
Fred said, "You know I give your mamma guff but there Is one thing I
know she is a good woman and I know there ain't a woman like her."
His mom rolled up the window and they pulled out of the drive-way and
went down and they went down the road.
He just shook his head because he was 30 years old and his mom still
insisted helping him get ready for a date like this was prom. He went
inside the house and started to strip down to his boxers. He was
thinking is Mandy the one lady for him he didn't know but she did have
an effect on him.
He climbed into bed and he fell asleep thinking about her.
