Jen is not far from having her Masters dissertation ready. I reckon that

I am not sure it has been worth writing the journal for the last eight
weeks. I am getting on fine with my research and writing the papers, but
little else. I suppose Jen and I have been able to play with the new
equipment a bit. Swimming has helped me keep a bit fitter. The medical
mob are all happy.
They are talking about letting my baby making gear start doing its stuff
in the next few weeks. That will mean that I only have weeks before my
first period, if everything works.
I have been told I can go on the dig, if I do nothing more strenuous than
a bit of scraping and drawing, no carrying.

We went to see cousin Elizabeth's new baby, she is gorgeous. I was
allowed to cuddle her for a while, as long as I didn't carry her. She

The medics have kick started my baby making kit. I don't feel any
different. We go on the dig in a week. My fanny is now looking quite
normal. All the swelling is long gone and the scarring is fading. My

We are back on the dig, living in a tent. It is confusing having two
Frans. I am already known as two. It started with me being called Fran
two and rapidly became just two. A geo-phys survey has been done of the
area and it is pretty clear that there was a small settlement of round
houses not far from where we found the kist. Some of the archaeology is
below the high tide level. Tean was part of a much bigger island back in
the iron age.
Further examination of the remains that we dug up last year showed that
all three had been mutilated, probably at the time they were killed. They
were butchered at the chest and groin areas. If the three were indeed men
who had developed into women in the same way as me, it could have been a
reaction against a female who retained some male genetalia.
The three had been analysed extensively and it was thought that one was
old, probably over 40 years, one was mature at around 20 to 25 years and
the third was about 16 or 17 years. All three showed female skeletal
structures
The three had been buried with care and honour. It was a grand Kist, very
well made and the grave goods were quite remarkable for a grave in an out
of the way place. It is Fran Ones's theory that the three were the
subject of a raid and the locals recovered the bodies after the invaders
had been defeated or left.
The first roundhouse that we have started on has already shown signs that
its use ended catastrophically. There is a considerable amount of
charcoal all at one level. It could be the result of burning. Fran says
that the early signs could indicate that the dwelling was never rebuilt
after the probable fire. It is interesting that the round houses seem to
be smaller than would be normal for the period and place.
15th June 2013
We have quite a team working on the three roundhouses, the tricky one is
the one that is below the high tide line. We have erected a metal
containment round the site which has been driven quite deep into the
sand. So far, it has worked. We are working with some urgency to get as
much information as we can before we lose it.
The ditch that encircles the settlement has a couple of trenches across
it and we are into two large middens. The middens have revealed a rich
hoard of finds. There has been quite a large quantity of cow bones found.
The indications are that although the settlement may have been very
small, there was a lot of feasting taking place. The whole site seems to
have been occupied for a short period but very well used during that
time.
Fran is convinced that the site ceased to be used when the three "ladies"
were killed. It is possible that this was a religious site and the three
were priestesses.
One of the two pits has a considerable amount of broken material. It is
much, much more than would normally be expected in a pit. Some of it is
high status pottery and we have found the remains of a sword, a dagger,
two spear heads and several bits of jewellery. This is a very rich site.
18th June 2013
We have found evidence of a ghost wall that has been completely robbed
out. The floor can be identified and the only stone remaining appears to
be the entrance to the building. The building is very large for a round
house from the middle iron age. The current theory is that it was either
used for religious ceremonies, feasting or both. My money is on the
latter. The location of this ghost house is inside the enclosure,
opposite the entrance.
We have found four more little figurines, three in bone and one in
pottery. The pottery figurine was barely distinguishable and badly
damaged. All four were small and all were of females with wide hips,
breasts and a penis.
I think that if I had been here a little over two thousand years ago, I
would have been a priestess of whatever religion existed here. The big
difference though, is that I have been able to complete the change.
I have enjoyed one part of this dig extra specially, I am doing no heavy
work. I am still forbidden to do anything too strenuous.
One thing that has really surprised me is swimming in the sea. I have
always found it too cold in the past. I tried it yesterday and it was
pleasant. My body has changed so much, I think it is the extra layer of
fat below the skin. I think it is giving me insulation, interesting.

I feel bloody awful, I feel bloated, my back aches, my boobs ache and if
anybody wants a fight they can have one, except I just want to go to bed.
I started feeling bad this morning, I mean really bad. I thought that I
must be rejecting my transplant or something. I contacted the medical
team and they told me to get back to St Mary's to see the medic, just in
case.

know what to do. The doctor talked me through and showed me what to do.
There was no way that I was going back to a tent in this condition, so I
booked into a hotel.
Jen has come across to look after me and show me what to do. I didn't
sign up for this. I want to go back to where I was a year ago. The bloody
consultants are overjoyed that everything is working, sod them, they can
all rot in hell.

I am feeling like a human being again and I have just got back to the
dig. We are recording everything and I am busy doing drawings. It has
been an amazing dig. We have discovered a lot more about the culture on
Lyonesse and there is enough new material to keep the professionals busy
for a while. We are putting the site back, covering the archaeology ,
today and tomorrow and then home tomorrow night.
Party tonight, I have been told to go easy on the booze.
1st July 2013
We are on Jen's dad's boat, currently back in the Scilly Isles, we left
Fowey the nigh before last. I have been given the OK to sail as long as I
do not do anything strenuous. I have started jogging and although I am
really out of shape, I am starting to feel better.
We are going to go straight up the Irish sea and try to get to the
western isles in a week. If we do we can fit in a couple of days around
the isles before Jen's dad and friends take the boat over.
The forecast is a little uncertain but it should be OK.

Storm bound in Dublin, the weather is much fiercer than expected. We are
having great craic in Dublin though. A couple of guys from Trinity joined
up with us last night and we are seeing them again tonight. Should be
fun.

We swap over the boat to Jen's Dad tomorrow. We got to Isla, Mull and
Harris, plus a bit of Puffin watching. It has been perfect sailing
weather since that storm. We get the train back to Glasgow then fly to
Exeter.
I think we both need to get back to work then. I am feeling fitter and
