An Experiment in Gender Engineering

It started when I was a college student, I knew deep down
that I was a transsexual. It was something I had felt since
I was little. I started doing research on the Internet when
I was "caught" by my female roommate. She was one of the
smartest people I knew, a pre-med student; she walked into
the apartment and saw me on the computer. I didn't hear her
enter, so kept reading.
The next thing I knew I was hearing her voice,
"Interesting."
I was embarrassed. She said we should talk. "I am not a
pervert, I was doing research for a paper." I pleaded.
"Okay, but if you were interested in having a sex change I
would be totally okay with it." She said.
"Thanks, but I am just doing research." I added
"I see, and you were doing more research when you were
going through my closet the other day." She smirked
'Oh shit, I thought she saw that!' I thought.
"Yep." I added somewhat less than convincingly
She let it go, so I thought I was safe. But I continued to
think about it, and finally it got to be too much.
"Michelle, can we talk?" I asked
"Sure." She said
"It is about that transsexual research paper I was doing."
I added
"Okay, so you are ready to come out?" She smiled jokingly
"Well, yes." I said, the look on her face was a bit
surprised.
"Wow, this is huge, first, I am okay with that, I know it
is hard for you to make this decision." She said offering a
hug.
I told her that I had always felt this way and that the
denial had gotten too great, but I felt it was something I
wanted to do.
She surprised me buy telling me about an internship she had
interviewed for with a company that did genetic
engineering. She was very excited because the company was
at the cutting edge of genetic research. They had been able
to take DNA and make changes to the genetic makeup of the
host. They had changed the eye and hair color of rats. She
said that the research goal was to help correct birth
defects.
"Who knows maybe someday they can used this technology to
treat transsexualism." She smiled
The thought was very interesting to me, since the process
of changing sex is long and painful.
At her urging, I started therapy and within a few weeks I
was diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. I started down
the road to complete sex reassignment. Michelle was great;
she encouraged me to dress at home and was very supportive.
She even took me shopping and helped buy clothes for my
feminine side.
That summer she started at her internship and after a week
on the job, she came home very excited.
"Guess what!" She exclaimed
"Your pregnant?" I said sarcastically
She gave me a dirty look. "No silly, I am working on a new
project that might be of interest to you."
"Really?" I said
"Yea, we are trying to change sex by revising the DNA of a
subject, if it works we could make you just as female as I
am." She smiled "Tomorrow we are going to test it on a
rat."
"Cool, do you think it will work?" I asked
"I don't see why not, everything else we have tried has
been successful." She added
This was definitely interesting news, if it worked I could
complete the transition with out the risks of surgery.
Monday evening Michelle came sailing through the door
smiling. "Well girlfriend, Mr. Rat is now Miss Rat."
"The experiment worked?" I asked
"Yup, tomorrow we are going to continue." she smiled
I couldn't wait to see what would come out of this. How
exciting!
A week of so later Michelle came home and told me that the
rat had gotten pregnant. Later it successfully delivered
healthy baby rats.
They had tried the procedure on several different species,
all of them successful when they decided to try it on a
human patient.
"How would you like to be our Guinea Pig?" she asked, "You
are the ideal candidate, you are healthy and you have
already started changing sex."
"Count me in," I said, I trusted her that she wouldn't ask
if she didn't think it would work.
"Great, since you volunteered, we won't have to advertise."
She said.
I knew what she meant since this type of research was
highly controversial and would surely result in protests. I
went to work with her the following morning, where she
introduced me to the Doctor leading the research.
"Dr. Curry." He said offering his hand. "Michelle tells me
that you have volunteered for this project."
"Yes." I said.
"Great, I have to ask you to release your medical records
to us." He asked and I replied in the affirmative
After lunch Dr. Curry rejoined us. "I have looked over
everything, it looks like you are ideal for this procedure.
We need to give you a physical before we can begin."
After undergoing a complete physical including drawing
blood, urine, saliva and sperm samples, I was informed that
I was indeed healthy. They told me that the samples would
provide them with the DNA needed to proceed.
Michelle explained how they would proceed, they would
isolate and map my DNA, then they would find the specific
areas that control sex, then using the techniques they had
developed would alter the genes to the opposite sex. Once
they had completely changed a single strand of DNA, they
would make a chemical that would cause the rest of the DNA
to conform to the new genetic makeup.
To help the body undergo this transformation, I would go
into a bathtub filled with a warm saline solution. They
would insert an IV with the chemical to reprogram my DNA.
It took about a week for them to get the chemical ready;
they checked and rechecked the genetic makeup to be sure it
was correct.
On the appointed day I went back to work with Michelle. She
handed me a women's swimsuit and told me to put it on. "It
will give you some privacy during the procedure and it is
flexible enough to stay in place while your body changes."
She explained
I changed into the suit and looked in the mirror. I hated
the way I looked, especially that bulge between my legs,
which if everything goes well, will be gone soon.
Michelle interrupted my thoughts. "Ready?" She asked
"Am I!" I responded
We walked down the hall to a small room, we walked into the
room together, and I looked around. There was the tub as
explained, and the equipment for the IV. Michelle told me
to get in the tub, which I did. She again asked if I was
ready and when I replied yes, she inserted the IV into my
arm. She also attached sensors to monitor my vitals. She
reached up and turned on a pump that began pushing the
feminizing fluid into my veins.
I felt sleepy as I felt the fluid move around my body. I
started feeling warm all over. Michelle explained that the
changes would occur from the inside out. I felt my penis
shrink, like it had done in really cold weather, only thins
time it just kept on going. I don't remember feeling any
specific moment of transition physically going from male to
female, since it was a gradual process and being female
felt just as normal as being male was.
The next thing I remember was Michelle leaning over me,
smiling. "It's all done girlfriend!"
I was kind of groggy, but woke up when she gently pulled
the IV out. I got out of the tub and toweled off. I pulled
the swimsuit off and finished drying off. I stood in front
of the full-length mirror I had looked at earlier. I was
much happier with how I looked now, my breasts were fuller,
and between my legs was my new vagina. I reached down and
touched it. I liked the way it felt. I dressed and Michelle
and I went home.
Since my body was changed genetically and not through
surgery, I didn't have to dilate like transsexuals who had
the surgery. That night I explored my new body. 28 days
later Michelle and I learned that the process was a
complete success, when my period started for the first
time.
Since then I have never felt any regret for changing my
sex. I have no intentions of ever going back and having it
reversed. I met a really great guy and recently we got
engaged. The first thing I did during the wedding plans was
ask Michelle to be my Maid of Honor.
