She was right, one of the most significant questions of sociology is
whether gender roles are more biologically determined or socially
constructed. Gender role experiment where a group of students will be
acting as opposite sex for the entire semester may become a huge
break-through in this studies.
And Linda knew very well that I was hopelessly in love with her. My
heart was skipping a bit every time I saw her face, her curvy figure,
her long blond hair. She volunteered for the experiment, but I can't
imagine how they are going to make her look like a boy. The
professors in charge of the experiment told us that there a new
medical technology that is allowing a quick and harmless change of
secondary sex characteristics.
But that's where my guts started to send me a warning. I don't really
trust medics. And I would never trust medics with experimental
technology. I was standing there feeling uneasy even thinking about
it. Growing breasts? Choosing a female name? Pretending to be a girl
for the entire semester? Not my kind of fun! I know that they were
going to present us as transfer students, and nobody outside the
experiment was supposed to know who we really are. But I thought what
would happen if I will decide to become a public figure in the
future? Somebody will dig it up for sure. Mr. Candidate, is it true
you spent an entire semester wearing skirts and flirting with boys?
But all my thoughts, all my fears, and gut feelings, everything faded
away when I involuntary fixated my eyes on Linda's ass. I didn't know
if she was trying to send me a signal, or it was her natural way of
walking, but her ass was swaying left and right, left and right with
every new step. No matter what, It was necessary for me to be with
her.
"I'm going to regret it big time!" I said aloud before starting to
run after Linda.

Eight students, including Linda and me, were selected as volunteers
for the experiment.
Professor Gilbreth was assigned to guide four male volunteers. She
was a tall, stern looking woman. Short hair, no makeup, no jewelry. I
knew she was a die-hard feminist even before she opened her mouth.
"Why there are so few female engineers? It is because first toy girl

that you are not supposed to talk about it with anyone including
others volunteers. I'm the only person you can talk with about your
experience.
"I thank you for volunteering, but I suspect your motivation is money
or academic benefits they promised to you, or desire to be part of a
famous experiment. Let me say it to you right away: it is not going
to be easy for you. I will make sure that your experience is as close
to reality as possible. And you will see, it is not easy to be a
woman.
"I need each of you to sign these papers," said professor Gilbreth
and produced think stacks of papers.
"Hey, but we already signed a ton of papers," I tried to complain,
but Gilbreth didn't bother to answer, she just pushed the papers to
me.

In 2019 we all heard about a huge medical breakthrough. While looking
for a cure for cancer, scientist discovered a way to communicate
information directly to the body's cells. The scientists were able to
command individual cells, organs, and even the whole body to act in a
certain way by exposing it to a combination of weak electromagnetic
field and invisible infrared energy.
"With this new technology, and the help of hormonal medicine we will
be able to quickly change your appearance. Soft tissues are not a
problem we can command it to grow or change in a certain way, but two
weeks are not enough to change your bones composition. I'm afraid you
will end up with shoulders too wide and hips to narrow for a female.
But your soft tissues will look authentic, and with the right clothes
nobody would second guess your gender."
"What about our ... eghhh ... our ...."
"Your penises and testicles will be alright. We don't expect any
long-term negative effects on your health. Relatively small hormonal
disbalance is the only issue you may encounter. When the experiment
will be over, you will receive new therapy that will restore your old
appearance and nobody will be able to tell that you had fully
functional breasts."
"Fully functional?" I heard myself gasping.
"Yes, you even be able to produce milk if enough prolactin will be
administered into your system."
The medic was speaking calmly and looked professional. He was talking
about breasts and being able to produce milk like it were trivial
things. And I was seating there feeling more and more uncomfortable.
Female breasts capable of lactating is the last thing I want in my
life. A big part of my brain was screaming for me to run away and
never look back. But the thought that Linda will be going through a
similar procedure made me stay.

It was the third day since the procedures began. I was getting some
injections and was asked to lay motionless for hours inside a machine
looking similar to MRI. I didn't notice any changes in my body, and I
was hoping that this new technology is just not working on me. I felt
nothing unusual at this stage, only a slight itch around my chest
area.
As always, with nothing else to do, my thoughts drifted toward Linda.
Some guys are looking to score as many girls as possible. But I
needed only one girl. I knew I would be happy and will never look at
another girl, as long as she is with me. She is a little bit crazy
with all feminist ideas. In fact, professor Gilbreth is her role
model, and Gilbreth is not just a feminist, but a feminist with very
radical views. Linda may adopt some of the extreme views, but sure it
will be alright as soon as we marry and have kids.
I felt the itching again, much stronger this time. It's started to
worry me. I didn't like the idea of letting the medic to play with my
body, and even less I liked the idea that they were going to make me
look like a girl. As soon as I see Linda again, I will ask her to
marry me at the end of the experience. If she agrees I will stay,
otherwise I will drop out.

I wasn't able to see Linda as they kept us separately. Instead,
professor Gilbreth introduced me to Jennifer and Maria. The two girls
were not selected for the experiment but were assigned to help me to
adapt to the female role. They become my flatmates and were acting
like I just another girl.
My body has changed in so many ways. I still was able to recognize
myself in the mirror, but I also looked so feminine. My skin becomes
light and tender, my muscles soft. My hair was grown shoulder length.
My face still looked more male than female, but two perky breasts on
top of my chest were screaming female.
They asked me to choose s name. I hesitated, the only name I was able
to think of is Linda. I was doing it for Linda. But it felt strange
when they started to call me Linda.
"Common, Linda, this skirt is perfect for narrow hips." The shopping
was a nightmare; not only I was exposed to all these people around,
but it also feels like the girls were having great fun dressing me up
and teaching me to apply makeup.
And every time we were visiting the shopping mall they were trying to
get me into piercing or getting a tattoo. "Linda, you such a tomboy.
Somebody may think you are a boy with breasts. Hoop earrings would
make you look so much better." But I was refusing anything too
drastic. It was enough I was wearing skirts and dresses all the time.
My childhood wasn't an easy one, and I know how to be invisible. You
keep your head down, avoid direct eye contact, and walk like you are
in a hurry. As much as my flatmates were trying to get me involved in
social life, my stealth mode remained impenetrable.

"Only five days left before the semester begins. You have to adapt to
your new role and start being social. The quintessence of this
project is to make you exposed to other people who will see you as a
female." Professor Gilbreth was not happy with me. "You have to start
to interact with other people, or I will be forced to take drastic
measures."
I had no idea what drastic measures she was talking about, but
silently nodded in agreement.
"And one more thing. A friend of yours asked me to send you this."
She put two small golden earrings on the table, and I recognized them
right away.
"Is it from Linda?"
"Not Linda! It is from your male friend Andrey."
"She also adapted my name?" I cried happily.
"Stop saying she; it is he now and his name Andrey. Are you willing
to take this?"
Of course, I took the earrings, and the girls were squealed with glee
when I finally agreed to pierce my ears. But beyond starting to wear
earrings, I didn't change much. I was spending all the time with my
computer; I was not willing to go outside, and when they were forcing
me to go out I was avoiding looking at people.

I wake up with a start. The MRI like machine was buzzing over me.
Sharp pain makes me run my hands to my chest.
"What the fuck?!" I scream feeling and seeing two mounts of flesh on
my chest. "What is going on?"
"I warned you, Linda, that you have to become social," I heard
Professor Gilbreth voice. "I can't let you ruin this experiment it is
too important. With the semester starting in just two days I have to
make sure that you will receive enough male attention, and wouldn't
be able to avoid it. The implants will do the trick. Now lay still,
the machine will help you heal quickly."

The dreadful morning comes, and I found myself standing in front of
the mirror in a dress. Girls did a good job applying make on my face.
Long hair, earrings, puffy lips, makeup everything was helping to
create an illusion of a female face. But still, my face was looking
more like it belongs to a tomboy. A tomboy with huge breasts.
I was crying like a real girl this morning but was trying not to cry
anymore. I didn't want to make Jenifer helping me with makeup again.
I was trying to think of something to distract myself, and my thought
comes to Linda. I should be able to recognize her, and then I will go
to her and ask to marry me. Sure, she wouldn't be able to say no to
me when I already did so much for our relations. The thought makes me
calm down, and I even smiled to myself.
"I think I'm ready," I said smiling, took my purse, and we started to
walk outside.
