Announcement: I realise that it's been a while since I last wrote anything on Fictionmania. I've been focusing on other things rather than FM such as writing chapters over on a site called Fiction Branches. Having said that I have found that I prefer to write in short stories rather than long multi-part stories. Perhaps I should have started with those but after I finish this story I will start posting more single part stories. I feel that this way I will be able to contribute to FM more often, say at least once a week. I also think that this will allow me to set up more of the background for this universe by doing my stories in this format. Brian smirked as he held out his arm for Jessica to take. Jessica just glared at him. "You're loving this aren't you?" she asked him. Brian giggled and nodded. Jessica sighed and took his arm as they entered the restaurant. "Hi," Brian said to the waiter. "We have a reservation for two. The name's Anderson." The waiter looked through the reservation list until he found them. "Ah yes," he said smiling as he took out two menus. "If you'd follow me please," he said motioning with his arm for them to follow him. Jessica had to hand it to Brian as they walked to their table. This was a really fancy restaurant. Much nicer than what she would have chosen. The waiter showed them to their table. Brian went to sit down but Jessica made a small noise. "Aren't you forgetting something?" she said indicating to her chair. Brian looked at her confused before realising what she meant. He went over to her and pulled the seat out for her. Jessica smiled at him as she sat down. "Thank you," she said somewhat mockingly. Brian just pulled a face as he sat down. The waiter handed them their menus and then left them. After a few minutes, a waitress came along. "Would you like anything to drink?" she asked them. Jessica was about to respond but Brian jumped in. "I'll have a beer please, and my wife will have a glass of your finest white wine," he finished with a smirk towards Jessica. "What?" he asked Jessica once the waitress had left and he spotted Jessica glaring at him. "You know the rules. I get to have beer while you have to have wine," he said smiling as the waitress came back with the drinks. "Fine" Jessica muttered as she took a sip of the wine. Although she wouldn't say anything to Brian, the wine actually tasted pretty good. They made a bit of small talk. Chatting about their week so far and then the waitress returned asking if they were ready to order. Both said yes as they were quite hungry by now. Brian ordered a steak as did Jessica. The waitress looked a bit shocked at her request which confused her until Brian gave a little chuckle. "She's just joking. My wife will have the chicken pasta," The waitress gave a little laugh but didn't really understand the joke so she left taking the orders with her. "Why did you do that?" Jessica asked Brian angrily. "Babe," he replied. "That portion will be much too big for you. I certainly wouldn't have been able to eat it back home," he leaned in towards her. "You have to remember that there are different expectations for each gender. Both in our world and over here. You may not like it but for the time being, you will have play along." Jessica nodded sighing again. She wasn't really enjoying her time in this world much. She feared that she might lose this bet. She took another sip of the wine. "I'll tell you what," Brian said sitting back in his chair. "When we get home you can have as much beer and steak as you want." "Thanks, honey" Jessica replied already looking forward to getting home. Their meals arrived and Brian and Jessica tucked in. Both admitted that their food was really good and Jessica complimented Brian on his choice of restaurant. Brian blushed. "Oh stop," he said. "I just thought that this would be the sort of restaurant that I imagined you taking me to sometime." Jessica nodded making a mental note for when they got home. Even if she lost this bet she promised to treat him better when they were back to normal. After they finished both Brian and Jessica were too full for dessert so they declined and the waitress brought them the cheque. She slid it over to Brian. Brian looked up at Jessica who nodded and looked at him knowingly. Jessica smiled as she watched Brian's eyes bulge at the price of tonight's dinner. "I hope it was worth it Brian," she chuckled to herself. Brian paid the cheque and then they left the restaurant after finishing their drinks. Brian hailed a cab and then helped Jessica into the cab. Once they got home Brian and Jessica headed upstairs. They were both rather tired so as soon as they changed into their night clothes they got into bed and fell asleep.
