Eric's story has already been submitted and Faith's will shortly follow. This is a continuation of MAU: The Slayer series. Monday Linda Stevens groggily wondered why there were so many blankets on top of her. She was having difficulty rolling over and for some reason she didn't feel quite right this morning. In her wakening mind she couldn't comprehend why she felt so...heavy. Then she had the strangest sensation in her groin. She felt an incomprehensible sensation and sleepy moved her had down to investigate what it was. Her eyes snapped wide open. "Oh my god!" She said sitting up right in bed feeling her morning erection. Looking around the now somewhat familiar room, she remembered everything that had happened the day before. She blinked and stared around the room in comprehension. Everything that she had been was now gone. No. Not gone, but it now belonged to the boy that she had now become. His name or hers now, was John Miller. He had had a crush on her and had found a strange alien device that had allowed him to change into any form that he could imagine and for some reason he had chosen to assume hers. "Assume." She thought. "An ass of you and me." That had pretty much summed up what had happened. Linda had known of the devices because her brother James had used a similar one some weeks earlier to turn himself into a duplicate of the evil vampire slayer Faith, from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All of the devices seemed to only work for four days, but before the one James had stopped working his' friend Max and Max's girlfriend had changed themselves into vampires and things went terrible wrong. Linda didn't understand everything that had happened, but she knew that they had been killed, but not before they had killed her brother Dan and had turned him into a vampire. Now Faith, as James now called himself, was working with some government organization that investigated the devices and was trying to find an active device in order to cure Dan and return James to his original form. That's when Linda encountered Dan, who had found one of the devices, and his friend Matt. John had turned himself into her duplicate and had shown up on campus in her cheerleading uniform, not knowing that it was the day the cheerleading team was to be taking pictures. Linda had been late and the members of the squad had naturally thought that John was Linda. When Linda arrived, saw that there was a duplicate in her place and had then played along with Matt who had mistaken her for John. Upon returning to John's house Linda had decided to turn herself into John so that she could get the device and get it back to her brother. Matt for his own reasons decided to turn himself into a copy of Faith also, but the form Matt created didn't have the Slayer powers like her brother's. Linda was hurrying to take the device to Faith, but she hadn't known that she had been followed by her lecherous quarterback boyfriend Eric, who now thought that she was really John. Eric had beaten her up and taken the device. She had left a message for Faith and went looking for Eric at school. Some of the other football players were there and were just waiting for a chance to beat up John and Matt. Linda had shown up and they started to beat her up believing she was really John, but luckily Faith had shown up and knocked the four players unconscious before they knew what was happening. Linda and Faith went in the locker room to find that Eric had changed himself into the class tramp Shannon Bailey, but to his and Linda's horror the machine had stopped working. Faith made some calls and the government men showed up to examine the machine, but it was no longer functioning and all of them: Linda, John, Matt and Eric were now stuck in these new forms. The government men, with Faith antecedence, had convinced them to allow Linda and John to switch lives so that Linda and James's parents wouldn't have to deal with the disappearance of their last child. John had agreed to the pretense as long as Matt could stay in town and not be relocated to a government facility in Arizona for those who were left in unusual forms and couldn't survive in society. He was normal, but didn't have anywhere he could go, so Faith to perpetuate the exchange offered to have her now twin live in the same apartment. Eric was also given the choice of going to the facility or impersonating Shannon Bailey, who had run away from home some weeks before. Eric had chosen to stay. Linda now sat in bed, John's bed, in John's pajamas, in John's body, having John's morning erection. "What am I supposed to do with this?" She mumbled, then put her hands to her face in embracement. "Did I really just say that?" John heard the annoying buzzer going off and reached over to silence the alarm. This was truly a strange dream he was having. He didn't even have an alarm. His mother would usually come in and wake him up to get ready for school. And his body felt so strange, like it did the morning before when he woke up after using that strange machine all night to change into so many different people. When he had turned into...He put his hands to his chest. "Oh shit. It wasn't a dream." He said feeling his firm breasts. John slowly sat up and looked around the room. This wasn't his room; this was Linda's room. "Oh God, it is my room." He remembered that he was now stuck as Linda. Getting out of bed he felt so...different. He, Linda that is, was in fantastic shape. She had not only been a brain and a beauty, but also an athlete. He had never felt so ?in shape'. He looked at his reflection in the vanity and felt a tinge of guilt knowing that Linda was waking up to his body. He had never really cared about being in shape. Honestly, he had cared, but try as he might, he couldn't lose any weight. Everyone had always considered him the fat kid and then one day he started to think of himself that way too. On that day he just gave up and accepted that he would always be the overweight kid that always got picked last for sports. "It's not fair that Linda is going to have to deal with all of that now." He thought looking at her reflection. Once the erection had gone away, Linda tried something that she had always wanted to do, which was to pee standing up. "That was different, but I could learn to like that." She thought. After showering, she went through John's clothes looking for something that was snazzier than what he typically wore. She had seen him around before and had noticed that he always wore t-shirts, usually with something about a science fiction show on the front of them. She found a decent button up shirt and some jeans to wear, but she decided that she was definitely going to have to go shopping as soon as possible. In the mirror she saw that she still had a lot of bruises on her face from when the football players had beaten her yesterday, but she didn't look that bad. She spent some time on fixing up John's hair and then made the bed. She was just finishing when John's mother came into wake him up. Linda smiled to herself at the surprise look John's mother gave her about already being up and then was happy to hear her complement her on being all dressed up. John's mother did baby her a little about the bruises on her face, but they were all superficially and Linda had come up with a convincing cover story. Linda told John's mother that she was off to school early as she left the house, but instead called Faith and meet her down the block. As Faith pulled up in the car, Linda could tell that it looked like she hadn't slept, or at least not much. "Hey Big Bro, you look exhausted." Linda said to Faith as she gotten into the car. "Hey...Little Sis." Faith said, slightly hesitating. A tear started running down her cheek, but she quickly wiped it away. "James?" "I'm sorry, it's just seeing you...what I caused. This is all my fault." "How is this your fault?" Linda said reassuringly. "You didn't make me change into John and you didn't make John turn into me." "But I could have taken the machine away from John at the sci-fi convention and none of this would have happened to you." "If you had done that, then Dan..." Linda paused for a moment, "would have killed me. You know it and I know it. You saw it in your dream." "Linda I am not even sure if those dreams really see the future." Faith said referring to her prophetic dream, similar to the dreams of the vampire Slayers from the television show. "The dream said that I had to let the device go with John or you would have been killed, but you being changed in to John, well that's..." Faith trailed off. "It's better than being dead." Linda said trying to be optimistic. "And you can still find another one of the things and changes us all back. So I will be stuck like this for a while." She said with a smile. "Until then, I get to see how the other half lives. Just like my brother." "Hey." Faith said finally smiling. "I wanted to be there for you to cheer you up, but you end up cheering me up. How do you do that?" Faith sighed. "I'm exhausted. Last night I...I was up late" Faith yawned. "I was making some calls, volunteering to go anywhere to try and find another one of those stupid things. I couldn't get a hold of Agent B" Faith said frustrated. "Those stupid machines. I mean who would build something like that and only have it work for four days. It's sadistic." "I think I'm going to start calling you ?Little Sis' from now on." Linda said changing the subject. "I'm now bigger, way bigger and you're more of a Sis than a Bro now." Linda said playfully punching Faith in the arm. "I am not calling you ?Big Bro', if that is what you are after." Faith said with a laugh, "but maybe I will call you ?Big Sis'." "So you want me to call you ?Little Bro'?" Linda said laughing out loud. "Uh, no. That won't work either. Well have to think of something. You want to get something to eat before I drop you off at school?" "Sure, I'm starved, but just something lite, I'm trying to lose weight." Linda said, then thought of something. "Did you always get an erection in the morning when you woke up? I mean when you were a guy? I'm only asking because this morning I had...an erection when I woke up." "God, now that is a sentence I never thought I would hear my little sister asking me." Faith said, and they both laughed as they drove away. John had showered and dressed in an outfit he had seen Linda wear to school many times before. He had really liked the way it had looked on her and knew that's what he had wanted to wear as his first real day as her. Makeup was a nightmare. He had tried to apply some, but he ended up looking like a clown. He didn't know what else to do, but he had always thought that Linda was beautiful even without makeup, so he went without. He had breakfast with Linda's mother and father, and while he was sure that they didn't know anything was different about their daughter, he could tell that they were still both distressed over their two sons being missing. He felt incredibly bad for the both of them and knew that he had done the right thing in pretending to be their daughter. He left for school and meet up with Matt where they had agreed to meet the night before. "Hey Sexy." Matt said when John met up to him. "Dude, that's not funny." John said seriously. "Remember who we are pretending to be." "Dude?" Matt said mockingly. "Look at us, this isn't pretending. Like it or not, we are the real thing." Matt said holding out his arms in a ?take a look at this' gesture. "But I was just kidding. Don't get your panties in a bunch." Matt said smiling. "And it's Michelle now." "Alright, Michelle. Just try and not go over the top with this today. Just be normal and don't cause any trouble." "Me cause trouble." Matt said as they started to walk to school. "I won't be the one causing trouble. If anyone is going to cause trouble, it's going to be Eric. I bet by the end of the day, that bonehead of a jock will have told everyone in the school who we all really are." "He wouldn't do that. He's not stupid. He's stuck as Shannon Bailey, so no one's going to listen to him, they're just going to want to sleep with him." "Good one." Matt laughed, but John looked at him, not intending it to have been a joke. "But what if people believe him? Pretty soon they will be laughing at all of us, and he's popular so it will somehow work out for him and we'll be the freaks again." Matt said apprehensively. "No one will believe him. They'll all think that Shannon's gone crazy." John said. "That's it. I'll bet that Eric will want us to verify his story to his friends and once he does, he'll be cool again and we'll be the laughing stocks." "So what can we do?" John asked. "When he comes to talk to us, you pretend to really be Linda and I'll be the new girl in school Michelle. If he doesn't have anyone to back up his story, he just has to stay as Shannon." "But isn't that really cruel? I mean he might start to go crazy or something, or think that he really is Shannon who has gone crazy." "How many times since seventh grade has he and his friends beaten you up? How many times have they beaten both of us up? It's time he got a little pay back." Matt grinned. "Alright." John said reluctantly. "If he comes up and acts like he going to blow our cover, we'll give him the treatment. So how was it staying at your new place last night?" "Not to bad. It's pretty nice. I've got my own room and closets full of clothes that apparently all fit me." Matt laughed. "Faith even gave me this big bag of make-up she kept under the sink." "How is it staying with her...or him?" John asked. "Kind of weird. I'm not used to seeing my own reflection and she looks just like it. And last night some guy came over really late. I was still up looking around, so they went off into her bedroom for some time. He left sometime later. I'm not sure what they were doing in there, but after he left I could hear that she was up for awhile after that. And she was crying too." "You don't think they..." "Yuck! I don't want to think about it." Matt said. "She...he...this is too weird." John said throwing up his arms. "Linda's brother has been through a lot. I am surprised he is keeping it together." Linda and Faith sat in the car having a conversation as students filed into the schoolyard. From where they sat they saw John and Matt entering the school and disappear from sight. "I know big bro. I'll be seeing you." Linda said getting out of the car and closing the door. "John!" Linda heard a voice coming from behind her. "Did you hear? Matt ran away from home." Steve, another of John and Matt's friend came up and said, then stared at the bruises on her face. "Are you ok? "Yeah Steve, I just had an accident. What's this about Matt?" Linda said then turned and saw Faith wave and then drive away. "Matt never came home last night, but they got a note from him saying that he was running away, but that he would be fine and that he would stay in touch. Isn't that the weirdest thing you've ever heard of?" Steve asked. "Well, not the weirdest." Linda said as they went into their first class together. "Here he comes." John whispered to Matt as they waited in the lunch line. "Boy am I glad to see you guys." An attractive well-endowed blond said coming up to the two friends. "I need to get into contact with those men in black from last night. I changed my mind and don't want to be here." John and Matt exchanged a knowing glance and then smiled to one another. "What men in black?" John said wondering if this was a good idea, but playing along with Matt's idea, he pretended not to understand what Eric was talking about. "Oh, I'm sorry. This is my new friend Michelle Benson. Today's her first day. She just moved here." "Nice to meet you." Matt said with a big smile on his face as he stuck his hand out as a greeting. "Cut the crap you two. I'm serious. I can't stand being this way. This is too much." The attractive blond said with an angry look on her face. "That's a very nice top you have on." Matt commented, trying to suppress a smile. "It really shows off your nice, girlish figure." John said now remembering all the times that Eric had taken his lunch money and had still beaten him up. "I bet you have all the boys drooling all over you, don't you." Matt said looking Eric up and down. "Both of you shut the fuck up and listen to me." The girl said steaming. "I need your help to convince Josh that I am really a guy." Both John and Matt looked at one another with a knowing glance. "But you're not a guy." John teased. "I don't think you would pass the physical. At least not with boobs like those." "Oh course, you could always go to Sweden." Matt giggled. John could tell that Eric was fuming, but then he looked around and noticed that other people were beginning to take notice of the conversation and were starting to laugh. They both watched as the blond turned in a huff and stormed off. The reaction was so girlish, that John and Matt couldn't help but laugh as the once quarterback of the football team stormed away. Linda walked around the hallways of the schoolyard. She was suddenly feeling very cut off. The only person that had noticed or had even been nice to her all day was Steve, but she really didn't have anything in common with him. She was glad to have someone to talk to, but unfortunately he had lunch next period, so she didn't have anyone she could hang out with for the rest of the day. She had seen her best friend Tina earlier in the day, and forgetting herself she had waved and smiled. Tina had given her a cold stare and turned away with a look that made it clear that she wasn't going to acknowledge the overweight boy who was walking towards her. Linda had been angry at the time and wondered why her best friend had acted that way. She knew that Tina wasn't a bad person, but her action was just so thoughtless and dismissive. "I wonder if I have ever been that thoughtless to someone." Linda thought to herself as she walked the hallways. "Could I have been just as cruel without even thinking about it. To her it was just a minor little moment, probably something she consciously didn't even know she did, but it really hurt my feelings." Linda paused and looked at John's reflection in the window. "Could I have been that thoughtlessly cruel to someone and never have even noticed? I wonder if John had waved at me a week ago, would I have done the same thing?" Linda continued to walk lost in her thoughts, when she came face to face with Shannon Bailey, or the person who until yesterday had been her boyfriend Eric. They both froze staring at one another. "Hi...Shannon." Linda said looking down at the girl. The pain of what Eric had caused Linda quickly vanished from her mind as she saw the look of utter despair on Shannon Bailey's face. Linda even forgot her own situation as she saw the look of pain on the girl's face and her heart went out to her. "I...I'm..." The blond girl tried to say but started to choke up. "I know. You didn't know. Are you OK?" Linda said putting her hand on Shannon's shoulder. She could see that her pain was nothing when she saw the look of shame in the eyes of the girl who stood before her. "Do you need to talk?" Linda said sympathetically. "I...I have to go." The girl said pushing her way passed Linda. Linda turned to follow her, but the girl quickly ducked into the girls' bathroom. Linda had wanted to follow her, offer to be there for her, but she knew that she couldn't force her to accept her help. "He's so alone." Linda thought, "Poor Eric. I can help him through this. Maybe we can help each other." She waited for Eric for some time, but finally left when she realized that he would have to want her help before she could give it to him. "John, wait up." Linda heard Faith's voice call out to her. Turning anxiously she wondered if something had happened, but she was relieved that it was just Matt and John. She was a little unnerved to see her body walking towards her, but she knew that it must be just a strange for John to be walking up to his own body. "Hi...John." John said to Linda as they came closer. "Michelle and I need to talk to you." "Uh...sure thing Linda. What can I do for you?" "I was kidding last night about trying to get, Matt here," John whispered, "on the cheerleading team, but I found out that the team is already short a few members and we talked it over, and he thought it might be fun, so, uh, we were wondering if you could help us figure out how to get him on the team." "Since John promised to stay on the team to keep up the pretense of being you, I thought it might be fun to join too. Can you help me get on the team?" Matt asked. "Well." Linda said feeling at home in her own environment. "You are the captain of the team now, so that has a lot of pull," Linda said looking at John, "And they really need another member ASAP, but you'll have to prove that you can be on the team before they will allow you to join." Linda said looking at Matt, "But I think I can help." The lunch bell rang and Linda looked at John and Matt. "Meet me right after school and I think we can come up with something that will get you on the team. There is practice today, so there won't be much time. See you after school." "What's he doing here?" Tina said glaring at Linda with a look of disgust. Several of the other girls on the team gave a similar glance at the overweight boy who followed in the head cheerleader and her newest recruit. "Don't worry about him." John said standing up to Linda's best friend. "He's just here to watch Michelle's tryout." "Practices are always closed to boys." Tina glared to John. "Since when?" Linda said stepping forward. "How many different times have guys been hanging out here while you have practiced. I'll tell you, almost every day." "Well we wanted them here." Tina said stepping forward towards Linda. "We don't want you hanging around here anymore." "You are such a different person than I thought you were Tina. You may be pretty on the outside, but you are ugly on the inside." Linda snapped at her. "Well you're ugly on the outside and we don't want you hanging around eyeing us anymore." "Stop it." John said. "He's staying, so deal with it." Linda stepped over to John. "Don't worry about it." She whispered to John. "I don't belong here anyways. Not because of who I look like, but because of who they really are. I'll see you later." "Wait. Don't go. Wait for us outside and we'll tell you all about it when we are done. Or stay, you're the one who really should be here, not me." "I...ok. I'll wait outside." Linda said turning to Matt. "Good luck." "Uh, thanks." Matt said not knowing if he should stay with his friend or go with the ostracized duplicate of what his friend used to look like. After the gymnasium door closed behind Linda, Tina stormed up to John. "Why are you hanging with the class spaz?" "Don't call him that." John said defensively. "And he is not a spaz." "You have been hanging around with him half the day and people are starting to talk. What do you think Eric will say about this when he finds out?" "I am sure he has other more important things to worry about right now then who I'm hang out with. And didn't you yesterday tell me to watch out for Eric, that he wasn't all that I thought he was?" "Yes I did, but if I thought you would opt for social suicide, I never would have said a thing. You may think you are doing him a favor by pulling up his social status or whatever, but remember that however much you pull him up by hanging out with him, he will drag you down just as much, if not more." "So are you saying I shouldn't even be seen with him? That's ridiculous." John said angrily. "It may be ridiculous, but with Eric's disappearance, you may no longer be the front runner for the prom queen. And I don't think you are ready to give that up, are you?" "I...prom queen?" John said shocked. "That's crazy, only the coolest...I mean...there's no way I could be...me?" John said astonished. "Well, not if you keep hanging out with...the wrong kind of people, but don't worry, no harm done. Hey, come on, let's not worry about any of that now, let's see if your new friend is cheerleader material." John went over to the bleachers and sat down, feeling very confused. "When I turned myself into Linda it was because I had the biggest crush on her, but now everything is so strange." John thought. "She's really great and all that, but now she's me and I'm her. I just don't know what I feel. I was always invisible, no one ever even noticed me, but now as Linda: teachers acknowledge me, everyone is always happy to see me and now I am...popular. I don't even want to be prom queen...well not really." John sat for some time deep in thought as Tina ran Matt through some basic cheerleading routines. "It's not about being the prom queen, or king for that matter, it's just about everyone accepting me and liking...me. I had a crush on Linda for so long, but she never even spoke to her until yesterday, and in that time she never knew that I was alive. Why did I like her so much? Was it was because she was nice and we had so much in common? Because she liked me and thought I was great? I guess she seemed nice from a distance, but I always loved who she appeared to be, not really who she was. She was the most beautiful, most popular, most athletic girl around. She seemed perfect, but I didn't know her. Everything that I really loved about her is now...mine. What does that mean?" John sat for a while and then came to a final realization about his new life, one that suddenly made so much sense that he couldn't ignore it. Linda sat outside for some time waiting for John and Matt. As she waited she did her night's homework and thought of her situation. "I want to see Mom and Dad again." Linda thought. "But should I see them? They won't see me as their daughter, but just as one of her friends. Mom won't hug me and Dad won't tease me. I would be a stranger to them and that might be too painful. And they might look at me funny too? Would they look at me as the fat kid who is hanging out with their daughter? Disapprove of me and tell her not to see me again?" Linda shook her head. "Of course they wouldn't. They would accept that I, or Linda, would be a friend with John. I'm just thinking crazy thoughts. And it will be so great to have any type of contact with them. Maybe I could be there for them like a son until Faith finds another alien device and change us all back to normal. My being there might be able to take some of the pain away of James and Dan being missing. And I would feel so much better just getting to see them every now and then. I couldn't be there daughter, but I could be in their lives. As soon as John comes out I have to set up a time to ?meet' my parents. And if Faith wants to do that to, she can just pretend to be Michelle, when she is around them. It wouldn't be the same be we can all be together." Linda thought excitedly. Linda saw that some of the cheerleaders were coming out of the gymnasium. She put her books in her backpack and headed over to the entrance. "This should fit you." Tina said handing Matt a cheerleader uniform. "It was Lisa Millsap's. She moved away last month. She said if we could find someone who fits it they could have it and I think it will fit you until you can get your own. Wear it tomorrow for the rally. We just do a lot of jumping up and down and you proved you could do that today." Linda beamed with pride that she could coach Matt enough to get him on the team. And he would be in tomorrows pep rally, she wanted to run in and congratulate him right then and there, but she didn't want to see Tina right now. "We're all going to the mall right now, do you want to go? Hey Linda, you coming with us to the mall?" "You bet ya! Come on Michelle let's get going." John said running up excitedly to the group of girls. "What about?" Matt whispered to John and pointed in Linda's direction. The excitement momentarily drained from John's face. "I'll take care of him and catch up with all of you." Linda watched as John walked over to her with a grim look on her face. "Listen Linda." John whispered. "We're all going out, but Matt got on the team." "That's great." Linda said. "Well, we've got to run..." "Wait, I need to talk to you about something." John looked at Linda somewhat apprehensively. "I can't really talk right now." John said motioning at Tina and some of the other cheerleaders taking notice of them talking. "We can talk tomorrow?" Linda said looking coldly back at her former friends. "I don't think that is such a good idea." John said somewhat reluctantly. Linda turned and squarely looked at him. "What do you mean?" She said surprised. "This isn't easy to say." "What isn't?" Linda asked. "Well, I'm up for, well you're up for prom queen, and..." "So?" Linda interrupted. "I don't care about that at all." "I know that, but Tina says ?we' are sure to win, but ?I' can't hang out with the wrong type of crowd until after the voting is over next week." "But Tina's a major bitch and I don't care if I get prom queen or not." Linda said starting to get concerned. "I would like to see if ?we' could win it, so ?I' want to go for it." "So what are you saying?" Linda said anxiously. "Well, maybe for the next few weeks, let's just pretend like we didn't know each other, like before." "But..." Linda wanted to explain about her plan to see her parents. "Hey Linda!" Tina shouted. "Hurry up, we're leaving." "I'm on my way." John shouted back, and then turned back to Linda. "I've got to get going." "John. Why are you saying this? If you want to win the stupid prom queen crown, I can help you win that, you don't need to..." "I just think this is best." John interrupted. "I want to see my parents." "That's not a good idea right now." John said turning to go. "Why?" Linda said starting to follow. John sighed and gave Linda an irritable look. "Because this is my life now and I don't want you in it." "But it's my life." Linda pleaded, slightly raising her voice. "Well, it's mine now." John snapped. "I had a crush on you forever and you never even noticed me." "That's not my fault." Linda said afraid of where this was going. "You never even said anything to me, how was I supposed to know." "And if I had said anything to you, would it have made a difference? That's not even the point any longer. The point is that I liked you because everybody liked you. You were the ideal girl in school, the girl to be dreamed about, but that would always be out of my league. And when I was sitting in the gymnasium just now I realized that I didn't just want you, I wanted every thing you had and now I have it." "John please! Thank about what you are saying." "I spent the last few hours thinking about it. I have always hated my life, I feel like a malnourished person who has finally been given something substantial to eat. I am really sorry you are stuck as me Linda, I really am, but I don't want anything to do with who I was anymore." With that John turned and walked over towards Tina, Matt and the other cheerleaders that had been waiting. Linda had wanted chase John down and confront him, but there was nothing she could do, so she just watched as her body walked away from her, to the approving looks of Tina and the other cheerleaders. Only Matt had a confused look on his face as the group of young girls exited the gymnasium on their way to the mall. Tuesday The next morning John dressed in his cheerleading outfit and waited for Matt at the spot they had met the day before. "Sorry I'm late." Matt said moving at a slight jog. "I was just about to go on without you, where have you been?" "I slept in. I still haven't gotten used to the new alarm clock and I think I didn't turn it on or something." Matt said catching his breath as they walked. "You look great in you uniform." John said looking at Matt. "It fits you really well." "Thanks, but I feel really exposed in this. These skirts are ridiculously short." Matt said tugging down on his skirt. "I guess I'm just getting use to it. This was the first thing I wore as Linda." Matt looked at John for a moment. "Speaking of Linda, what happened yesterday?" Matt asked. "What do you mean?" "I think you know what I mean." Matt said in a concerned tone. "Well...after everything that's happened with Josh, I figured that we should keep our distance from Linda. You know, for her own safety." John lied. "That makes sense...I guess, but is that all?" "Well, we don't want to attract any attention by acting different, do we?" "I guess not." Matt said reluctantly. John was surprised that Matt hadn't drilled him further about everything that had happened in the gymnasium, but he figured it was close enough to the truth to make sense. Linda didn't know what to do. Her life was gone. Her family, her friends, her body were now no longer her own. She had known that before, but now she really felt it. When she had gotten home the night before she had wanted to talk to Faith, but couldn't burden her brother with anymore or her problems. She left a message for him saying that her first day was great, that she was having a great time and that she was planning on walking to school on her own in the morning. After she got off the phone she burst in to tears. She hated lying to her brother, but she knew that Faith already had too much on her mind, so Linda knew the only thing she could do to help was to pretend to be happy. Linda ran into Steve on the way to school, but as she talked to John's friend, it just made her feel lonelier. "Steve seems like an ok guy, but all he has talked about for the last fifteen minutes is Dark Angel, which he got off Netflix the night before. I have nothing in common with him at all." She thought, as she pretend to be interested in whatever tight outfit that Jessica Alba was wearing on the show. Linda found that most of the other students either didn't notice her or looked at her with disgust, but that was preferable to the rude comments some of the kids would say about her. Before lunch that day, she had been called: fat ass, faggot, shit head, dumb ass, shit for brains and many other colorful names. And she couldn't figure out why. She didn't do anything, but everyone was singling her out for some reason. Then it occurred to her why. "It's because I'm different. I'm fat, so they all feel better about themselves by picking on the kid who looks least like them. They're all afraid and insecure, and the only way to build themselves up is to tear me down." Realizing this did little to make Linda feel any better. If anything, it made her realize that she was really different, not just because she looked different, but because she now understood why everyone was so cruel. "This is so unreal!" John thought as the student body jumped to there feet and cheered as he and the rest of the cheerleaders had run into the gymnasium to start the pep rally. A wave of excitement and fear ran through John's body as he noticed so many eyes on him at once. In the faces of the students he saw looks of envy, of admiration, of lust, of jealousy and of awe. Everything that he had always wanted to be, things that he dreamed about, but had never admitted to himself, he was at that instance. He was the center of attention; he was everyone's favorite. John was smiling as he looked over at Matt who seemed very uncomfortable with all of the sudden attention. "What's his problem?" John wondered. "This is the greatest!" Turning his attention back to the cheering crowd, John knew in his heart that he had made the right decision in making this life his. After a minute the cheerleaders all moved to the side and the activity's director made some quick announcements about Friday night's football game and then called out the football team. The students again went wild. Linda watched from the bleachers, but didn't feel at all like cheering. Coming to the rally more out of habit than for any other reason, she sat and watched her life without her. She listened as the activity's director talked about how important Friday night's game against Wilson High School was and if the team won it, they would be all state champions. She made eye contact with John. He looked at her briefly and then averted his gaze to look at other students in the crowd. She noticed that Matt had been watching John and was now looking up at her. It bothered her that he was an exact copy of her brother's new body, it was kind of like he was there watching her, but he wasn't. Linda didn't notice as the football team took a seat and the principal began to speak. She also didn't notice that Josh and a several other members of the team were now glaring at her and whispering to one another. As the rally concluded Linda sat numbly and watched as the students cleared the gymnasium. She finally got up and wandered out of the building with the last few stragglers. Heading towards home she walked across the baseball field towards the exit in the chain link fence by dugout. Depressed, she looked down at her feet as she walked. She was just about to step through the exit, when a car's squealing brakes snapped her head up to attention. In front of her Josh with a baseball bat and three other member of the football team were bolting out of a car towards her. Josh struggling with his crutch quickly fell behind. Linda frantically turned to run, but saw four other members of the football team coming up from behind her, trapping her behind the dugout fence. Before she could react, she was trapped. Josh hobbled up on his crutch, a smug look on his face. "I fucking warned you asshole, but you had to fucking get all tough. Well, your not so tough now, are you?" One of the guys pushed Linda from behind and she stumbled forward. An enormous linebacker, Mark Lewis, pushed Linda back and she fell to the ground with a thud. The guys laughed and began to taunt the helpless boy they had as their prey. "You thought you were just a bad ass, didn't you?" Josh said getting in Linda's face. "Sucker punching me when I wasn't ready...well I am ready now. You aren't so tough when I am ready for you, are you pussy! Well, since my knee is all fucked up right now, you can fight Mark in my place." Two of the guys grabbed Linda and lifted her to her feet. A broad grin appeared on the face of the enormous linebacker as he stepped forward and looked at the overweight boy. "Josh...I'm sorry." Linda said fearfully. "I...it won't happen again. Please." "John, you are such a fuckin' chicken-shit." Josh said gloatingly. "Mark, show him what we do to chicken-shit." "Help!" Linda screamed as she turned and tried to run, but was instantly pushed back by the two guys that had just helped her up. Spinning back towards Mark, she stepped into a punch in the stomach that knocked the wind out of her and she again collapsed to the ground. "Pick him up." Josh said, "This isn't over just yet." "That was fantastic, wasn't it?" John said to Matt as they left the gym. "It's like we're rock stars or something." "I guess." Matt said unenthusiastically. "Are you kidding? I'm the...we're the coolest kids in school now." "So." "So isn't this the best?" John said giddily. "Not really. This is just stupid popularity. It ends when you graduate from high school, then you go out and live your real life." "But this is what I always wanted." "To prance around half naked, as a girl, in front of a bunch of idiots?" "No, to be the most popular kid in school." John said angrily. "You're not the most popular kid in school, you just look like her." "Matt what the hell is wrong with you..." In the distance they faintly heard a cry for help. They both turned and looked over at the baseball field dugout. The fence of the dugout obscured their vision, but off to the side, parked on the street they could clearly see Josh's car. To the side of the dugout they could see two members of the football team, who excitedly looked on as something was happening behind the wall of the dugout. "What do you think..." John started to say, but Matt was already running at a sprint towards the dugout before John knew what was happening. John quickly started running after his friend. "Michelle, wait!" John called, but Matt was rapidly outdistancing him. A six-foot chain link fence stood between the two running girls and the baseball field. John watched as Matt ran straight at the fence, instead of veering off towards the gate. "What's Matt planning to do?" John thought, but watched as Matt came within five feet of the fence and leapt up into the air, grabbed the top of the fence, somersaulted in the air and then landed on his feet, still going at a full run. "Holy shit. That's not Matt." John thought as he ran for the gate. "That's Faith?" John reached the gate as Faith ran around the corner of the dugout. John couldn't see what was happening behind the fence, but as he ran he saw several unconscious guys coming tumbling out from behind the dugout and into his field of vision. To the far side he could see Josh, frightened and enraged, throw aside his crutch and chock up on the baseball bat. He then hobbled forward and disappeared behind the dugout wall. "Look out Faith!" John heard Linda scream, then there was a loud cracking sound, followed quickly by a shrill female scream which made John's blood run cold. A few seconds later John came around the corner to see Faith snap kick Josh in the chest, which sent him flying ten feet back into the chain link fence. The fence strained against his weight, then sprang him back forward where he collapsed into a heap upon the ground. "Oh my god!" John screamed as he saw Linda's limp body lying on the ground. Faith spun around at the sound of the scream, but froze when he saw John standing there. John rushed to Linda's side, tears beginning to well up in his eyes as he looked on at his old body lying unconscious, blood running from its nose, its neck bent in a strange position. "Linda!" John said inching forward towards his body. "Don't touch her!" Faith screamed as she frantically searched the unconscious members of the football team for a cell phone. "Finally!" Faith said as she found a phone on one of the players. Frantically she dialed 911. A short time later an ambulance was taking Linda away and John asked to ride with them to the hospital. As John sat in the back of the ambulance, he looked out at Faith who numbly stood by and watched as the paramedics carefully moved Linda's injured body. A tall man that John had seen with the men in black came up to Faith and was saying something as the ambulance doors closed. 4 Days Later John walked down the hallway looking for room number 521 in the intensive care unit of the hospital. He had been there several times before and could find his way to the room without even looking, but looking at the numbers gave his mind something else to think about as he walked. He pushed opened the door to the room, saw the bed and the figure that hadn't moved since they had brought him in five days earlier. "Hi Linda." John said softly. "I brought one of the stuffed animals from you room. I don't know what its name is. I'm sure you must have named it, but...here it is." John said setting the stuffed elephant on the nightstand next to Linda's bed. "Linda?" John said brushing away one of his tears. "I am so sorry. I was such an idiot. Everything was just so confusing, I was just suddenly so popular and loved, well, because they thought that I was you..." John trailed off. "You were only me for two days and look what happened to you. You know how bad my life was, now just imagine if your whole life was like that and then suddenly everyone and everything changed and everyone liked you and you were popular. You might have done the same thing. I'm sorry. It's no excuse for the way I treated you, but I won't let that happen ever again." John sobbed. "The doctors aren't sure when you will wake up Linda, but I will keep coming back every chance I get until you do. I won't desert you again." John stayed with Linda until the nurses finally came and told him that visiting hours were over, as they had done the previous three nights before. "Goodnight Linda." John whispered. "I'll see you tomorrow."
