MAU - Slayers - Series One - Book One
By Erin C
The following is the first story arc of the MAU - Slayers series.
They have been combined and some parts have been rewritten or touched
up. Nothing that alters the story in major ways has been changed
though. The series is meant to be read on a story by story basis, but
this is for those who prefer the long story format.
I highly recommend reading Allen W's MAU - The Slayer series. While
this is not a sequel to it, it is very much in the same universe
(along with the other MAU stories) and was the inspiration for this
series.
Part One - The Device
"So, what is this thing anyways?" said Laura as she walked around the
device.
Her friend Jordan meet her as she came around the edge. "Not a clue, I
found it this morning. It expands from a briefcase to this. Also it
does this." He put his hand on one of the panels and a display showed
a picture of himself. "I can change it too, I just need to think
about it." As he described it, the image changed to David Tennant
dressed as the Tenth Doctor.
Laura was amazed. "It reads your mind. This thing is amazing." She
then noticed a purple button that had lit up. "Did you notice this
one?" She pressed it and a door opened. Jordan walked in and the
door shut behind him, a moment later the Doctor walked out. "Oh my
god, I'm the Doctor." he said. Laura was a shocked, "Is that really
you Jordan?"
"Oh, it's me alright. Well, inside at least. Well, my mind is still
mine, more or less. Well, I'd say it was somewhat enhanced." He
found a mirror and looked at his reflection, "This is amazing." He
felt his chest and noticed something a little different. "I have two
hearts, just like a Time Lord. The machine didn't just turn me into
David Tennant, it turned me into the real Doctor. I could probably
regenerate into that Matt Smith guy."
Laura, who was already attempting to use the machine, just looked
back. "I wouldn't try killing yourself just yet," she said as she
walked into the machine. Moments later, she walked out of the machine
as Buffy the vampire slayer. "We don't know the limits of this
thing."
"I can't believe this, I actually feel powerful." She picked up a
nearby bookcase with relative ease. "I really am a slayer, powers and
everything I guess. I wonder if I have the prophetic dreams? You
know, this could be the solution to our dilemma about which costumes
to do for the convention. I know you wanted to do a Buffy group," she
said as she walked around testing her strength.
"You might be on to something, call Mike and Chris. We only need to
pick out characters to use and we'll have the perfect costumes."
Jordan immediately had a wild thought and walked up to the device. He
activated it and stepped inside. Soon Faith the vampire slayer
stepped out.
Laura was shocked. "You made yourself Faith?" Jordan just smiled.
"Can't let you have all the fun, B. Besides I only wanted to try this
out, I don't plan on spending the rest of my life like this." Jordan
walked to the mirror to check out the reflection, "This is so amazing,
I really look like her." He got out his cell phone and sent a text to
Mike and Chris, they would never believe it if he had called. "Okay,
I told them to think of characters and to come over and use the
machine. I don't think they believe me, but they said they'll try
it."
Laura walked back into the room. "So what do you want to do while we
wait for them to change?"
"Well we could go into town and maybe screw with some people's head."
"I like the way you think Faith," she said while laughing.
---
A few hours later in another part of town...
A black van rolled into a parking lot of the mall, two men began to
watch the lot with night vision goggles.
"So who are we looking for?" said the first.
The other man handed him a pair of photos. "Apparently Sarah Michelle
Gellar, the girl from Buffy and the Grudge, and Eliza Dushku, who was
also on Buffy and a bunch of other shows. No word on any powers,
although given the pairing it is likely. We have rumors on various
social networking sites of the sightings, all located in this area."
"Man, this job got a whole lot easier thanks to the internet, everyone
loves to talk about seeing a celebrity or something odd. Twitter and
Facebook are the best thing to ever happen to us." Before the other
agent could reply, they spotted them.
The new Buffy and Faith had no clue they were being watched. Both
were carrying bags of clothes. "So Faith, you've only been a girl a
few hours and already you love the mall."
"Hey it was your idea, besides Faith may look good in leather pants
but they are extremely uncomfortable. Now let's get back to the house
and see who Mike and Chris picked. By the way, do you find it odd,
that we keep calling each other Faith and Buffy?"
"Maybe a little, but you sure don't look like a Jordan anymore.
Besides, a part of me just wants to call you by that name. I really
can't explain it." Finally they reached the car as the agents slowly
followed them. Before Buffy could grab her keys the agents were
almost on top of them. Buffy spotted them first and got a hit in and
knocked out one before Faith could react, "Hey, who called the Men in
Black?" Faith knocked out the other agent and the two ran to the car.
As Buffy drove, Faith looked to see if they were being followed, "That
was weird. Who were those guys? They looked too well dressed to be
random creeps. Also I am incredibly pumped up."
"Well Faith on the show was like that, except we usually had plenty of
vampires to dust. As for those guys, I have no clue. You don't think
it has anything to do with the box? Maybe it's some government spy
device."
"That seems way too advanced for us, maybe its alien. I mean, they
have to exist somewhere."
"Don't be ridiculous Faith, why would aliens come here?"
"Maybe you're right. Let's just get home. I kinda want to change
back, I'm feeling a little weird after that fight."
---
Back at the lot...
The agents woke up fairly close together. "So that's a yes to
powers," he said rubbing his throbbing head. "No kidding, we should
pull any nearby surveillance camera and look for their license plate.
We'll find them soon enough and we may have a device that is still
working."
---
When Buffy and Faith got to the house, it looked ransacked and the
lights were off. "Mike, Chris? Are you guys here?" said Faith.
"It quit working." Faith jumped at the sound of the voice. A lamp
was turned on and Faith saw the vampire character Spike. "The device
works better than you'd think, Mike turned himself into Angel." He
took out a cigarette and starting smoking. "But we both noticed that
we were hungry for blood. He went mad and took off. I was able to
maintain some control and tried to stop him. But I'll assume you've
notice the state the place is in. Tell Jordan I'm sorry."
Faith was a little shocked at the news. "I am Jordan."
Spike laughed. "I would have never guessed it, I didn't think you
were in to that. Anyways he tried to use the machine and it didn't
work. He then took off, I waited for you two, but I must confess that
the hunger is getting to me. I can hear your blood pumping, its
speeding up. Is Faith, the big bad slayer scared?" He rushed up, his
face changing like that of all vampires in the Buffy series. His
fangs were just resting on Faith's neck. "But you've always been a
good friend. So I can't drink from you, not just yet." Before Faith
could respond, he ran out and was gone.
Buffy walked in. "I heard everything. We have two bloodthirsty
vampires out there, what are we going to do?"
"Simple B, we catch them and try to save them. We're slayers, we can
take them."
"He's right about the machine Faith, I tried to use it. What if we
can't turn them back?"
"I don't know but we'll do something." Faith broke the leg off a
nearby table, making it into a stake. "I just hope it doesn't come to
this."
Before they could anything, several cars pulled up. Men in black
suits poured out, all with guns, guns pointed at Buffy and Faith.
"Drop your weapons and step forward," said one of the men. Faith
dropped the stake and both put their hands up.
"Okay ladies, just stay calm and no one has to get hurt." One of the
agents came into the light. Faith recognized him as one of the men
that had been knocked out.
One of the agents quickly ran out of the house. "The device is
inactive, we're too late. We're going to need to process these two."
Buffy and Faith were a little afraid to move, they both knew that
slayers were strong, but not against bullets. Before either could do
anything, both felt injections and passed out.
"Okay, move them fast. If they do have slayer powers, these won't
last long," said the injured agent. He turned to his partner,
"Remember what we read in the reports about the last one," he said in
a whisper.
---
Faith and Buffy woke up in a windowless room with only one door. Both
were in pajama-like clothing, Faith's first instinct was that one of
the men had undressed them. The feeling that some strange man had
seen her female body gave her the creeps. Seeing herself as female
was getting a little easier now, probably had something to do with the
device. It was actually making her think like Faith in very subtle
ways, she was still Jordan, but she knew what Faith would do. What
Faith wanted to do now was escape immediately and whoever got in her
way was out of luck.
The door soon opened and a woman in a black suit walked in. "Sorry
about drugging you ladies, but given your abilities we had no safe
alternative. You may call me Agent J."
Faith was the first to speak up, "Who are you people? We weren't
doing anything."
"We're an organization dedicated to tracking down alien technology on
Earth, mainly the booth that you two used. At times, the devices can
create threats to public safety and we deal with those as well. Most
of the time we just relocate anyone unfortunate enough to use them."
Buffy's eyebrows arched. "Aliens?"
"As far as we know the booth comes from another world. For several
decades, the devices have crashed onto the planet. From what we can
tell, they are almost impossible to destroy, which explains how they
survive entering the atmosphere. What little we understand about it,
shows an understanding of alloys far beyond our ability."
"I don't care about the science lesson, why can't we just turn back?"
Buffy asked, interrupting the Agent.
"Well, the devices have a time limit. Roughly four days, at the end
of which it shuts down. So far, we have been unsuccessful at using
them after this period. Given the chances of finding another active
device are remote, the two of you will likely spend the rest of your
lives like this."
Faith fell back into the chair. "Fuck. If I had known, I'd.."
The Agent interrupted her, "I'll assume that you were male. You would
be surprised how often this happens. Men are just so fascinated at
how the other half lives."
"Listen lady, I'm having a really bad day and I really don't care to
hear your smart ass remarks."
"Look, I'll get down to the big issue. Tell me in detail what
happened to you. We need to know what response to take with this."
Faith and Buffy took turns explaining what happened and described the
situation with two vampires on the loose. Agent J wrote down some
note on a hand held computer, "We will have our best men tracking down
these vampires. We will find them, we've done this before."
"Find them and kill them," Faith interrupted. "These vampires are our
friends, maybe we can get them to turn themselves over and get help."
"Without another device, they are stuck in their current form just as
you are. Besides we can't have you two creating a bigger problem than
we already have. You two do look like celebrities."
"Just let us try, we aren't going to go around killing people. Send
one of your agents with us, besides who better to hunt vampires than
the only two slayers in existence?" said Buffy.
"You may have a point. I'll allow this, but if you two try anything
you'll live to regret it." Agent J then pulled out a phone and spoke
to some other agent. Two men soon walked in. "Faith, Buffy, meet
Agents R and S, Agents meet Faith and Buffy. You four about to hunt
some vampires."
Part Two - Our Very First Patrol
Faith sat in the back seat of the car with Buffy. She had been
twisting a strand of hair around her finger, a habit she had when she
was her old self. It was the same color as before, just a lot longer
and the texture felt different. Looking out the window at the setting
sun, she could see a faint reflection of herself. She was still
wearing the same makeup from when she had transformed, some eyeliner
and lipstick. She began to think of the last two days. How some
alien device had transformed her life into some cruel parody of a
television show. How only a week ago she had been a man. A man whose
only concern with vampires dealt with them not being scary in movies
anymore. Now not only was there no way anyone would think she was
born male, but vampires were a major threat to her life. Her friend
had come only inches from biting her neck.
"You okay?" her friend Laura, now Buffy asked. Her voice was low,
hoping the agents hadn't heard her.
"Besides being a dead ringer for a fictional vampire slayer, I'm
fine," she said turning to see her friend's new face.
"You know what I mean. It's been hours and you've barely said a word.
It isn't like I'm not going through the same thing. I can't go home
again either, the only difference between you and me is that I've had
a little more experience at being a girl. At least we're both still
humans unlike Mike and Chris. Now quit PMSing and get ready, we have
work to do," Buffy then went back to getting her weapons out, stakes
mainly.
"Please, I don't even want to think about that." Faith tried to hold
back a smile.
Her friend was right, she had been acting awfully moody since finding
out she was stuck as Faith. All things considered, being a woman
wasn't that bad. She was healthy and in the best shape of her life.
Plus she was quite attractive, as a male she had something of a crush
on the actress who played Faith. Now the very same body did nothing
for her, maybe it was because she knew that it was her body or maybe
it was because Faith was attracted to men. The thought of herself
with a man was still weird to her, but she knew it would come up
eventually. Faith did have certain ideas about sex on the show and if
that had been made part of her, she would discover it soon enough.
She had already noticed the way her body reacted around men, something
that terrified her. The thought of how much she could become like
Faith filled her with dread. She reminded herself to stay away from
demonic mayors.
Trying to think of something else, she turned her thoughts to her
friends. Laura seemed to be doing okay, at least on the outside.
Besides her face and a few differences, not much had changed for her.
Although she knew that she was dealing with the knowledge that both of
them had nowhere to turn. Then she realized that Mike and Chris were
in the worst shape of all of them. She could only imagine the horror
going the minds of her friends. Becoming blood thirsty monsters, the
Agency had to have something that could help them. Even if it just
kept them from hurting people.
Buffy didn't mean to talk to Faith like that, but something had to
snap her out of this. Of course she must be going through hell
dealing with the change, Buffy felt the same way. But both of them
needed to be on the top of their game for this. Chris could have
easily killed both of them at the house, but something kept him from
doing so. She hoped that there was still some spark of humanity left
inside him. Maybe there was still hope.
---
Several minutes later, Agent S stopped the car by the side of the
road. Faith recognized the area as being near the local state park.
He turned to Buffy and Faith, "Okay, based on our some reports a bunch
of animals have been found here. All completely drained of blood,
also a few hikers have vanished. All of them were around this area,
so your friends must be close by. Now the plan is for you two to go
ahead, we'll follow behind you. Now you have radios, contact us if
you need us. We've dealt with vampires before. Just be careful, they
will use your friendship against you. They are not your friends
anymore, if you get the chance to stop them, do it. I assure you,
they won't have mercy for you."
Both slayers got out and started walking down the road. The leaves
were already starting to change colors. Faith hadn't realized how
cold it actually was.
"I should have brought a jacket," she said rubbing her arms. "So I
guess vampires are a big problem with those devices, people must
really want to be one."
"I blame Anne Rice, she made vampires superstars. Twilight and True
Blood probably took care of the rest," replied Buffy.
Faith tried to spin a stake around her fingers, "Well I'd love to
stake a shiny vamp," said Faith, right before she dropped the stake
and had to pick it up.
"It can't be that bad, they make a ton of money," said Buffy.
"You've never read them or seen the movies, I don't know what I was
thinking," replied Faith.
A snapping twig caused both to turn around immediately. A man ran out
towards them, his face changing into that of a vampire.
"Looks like our friends have been recruiting," said Buffy as she
prepared herself for a fight. Faith pulled out a stake,
"Look, we don't want to hurt you. We might even be able to help you."
The vampire ignored her warning and jumped onto her, knocking her to
the ground. Faith struggled to keep the vampire from feeding on her.
Suddenly it turned to dust and Faith saw Buffy standing over her with
a stake in her hand.
Faith got up and immediately wiped the dust off, "Eww, vampire bits.
It's all over me." She spit out what she thought was vampire dust.
"So I guess we know what happened to the hikers."
Buffy looked around for more vampires. "I just hope that we can still
reach their humanity. I can only imagine what happening in their
heads. Especially if they're turning people." She was close to
breaking down.
"We'll help them, I know we will. I don't care what Agent S said,"
Faith said putting her arm around her friend.
"So touching, now how about a kiss?" mocked the voice behind them.
They turned around to see Spike jump down from a tree limb. "You two
just look good enough to eat," he said as his face changed. "I saw
you kill Reggie, he was like one of the family. Tsk tsk."
Faith held a stake up. "Please don't make us do this, they can still
help you. We can find another device, fix all of us."
He ran up and held Faith's face in his hand, "Oh I don't think so, I'm
loving this. You have no idea of how wonderful the power is. I
fought it at first, but that device perfected me. It removed all
those annoying bits like a conscience or remorse."
Faith backed away as quickly as possible as Buffy raised her stake.
"Don't talk like that Chris, you're sick."
"Actually I'm better than I've ever been and call me Spike, Chris is
dead," he replied. He jumped onto a nearby tree limb, "Oh, Angel
sends his love. I'd love to stay and catch up on old times, but we do
have plans." He then disappeared into the darkness of the forest.
Both slayers ran over to where he had been. Faith tried to look for
any sign of the direction he took but it was useless, "He's gone,
there has be a cabin nearby. They can't stay out in the sunlight. We
need to get to them before they hurt more people. We might be able to
reach Mike."
"I don't know Faith, you heard him. If he's anything like Chris,
he'll be going all Cronenbergy on us too."
Buffy pulled the radio out of her pocket.
"We saw Chr... Spike, we're unharmed. He escaped into the woods. We
think they may be in a cabin, but they are turning people into
vampires. One of the hikers attacked us."
Agent R replied back, "We understand, we'll be there shortly."
"So what do we do if we can't get them to stop? You saw Spike, not
only is he faster than us, he could easily kill us if we aren't
careful," said Faith.
Before Buffy could reply, they both saw the car the agents were
driving coming up. Although it was driving a little erratically.
Faith noticed before Buffy that a woman was on the roof, probably
another vampire. She ran up, leaping onto the car before it could hit
her. Holding the stake, she managed to kill the vampire as they fell
to the ground. She rolled into a ditch as the car stopped nearby.
Agent R came and helped her up. "Are you okay? We can get a medic
here."
"I'm fine, just a little bruised," Faith said while rubbing her
shoulder.
Buffy ran over. "Show off. Had to put on a stunt show for the boys,
huh?"
"Don't make me angry B, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry." She
smiled despite the hurt shoulder. She turned to Agent R, "So did you
too find anything before I needed to save you?"
"Actually we did, satellite photos show a cabin only a mile or so from
here." He showed her the image on his phone. "Thanks by the way, for
the rescue I mean," he smiled as he finished.
"No problem, I guess we better get there quickly. They'll probably
try to run before the sun comes up," she replied.
He helped her into the car, while Buffy and Agent S got in.
---
On the short drive to the cabin, Faith had realized Agent R had been
flirting with her. Poor guy probably didn't know I used to be a guy
she thought. She could admit to herself that he was good looking, he
was probably in his late 20s. Not all that much older than she had
been, before the change that is, now she looked like she was still in
high school. He had brown hair and was fairly muscular. Not body
builder huge, but still strong. Plus he seemed like a nice guy.
Agent S on the other hand looked like he could be a stunt double for
Agent Smith from the Matrix, the fact that they shared the same
initial had amused her. She was knocked out of her line of thought by
the car pulling to a stop.
Agent S turned around. "We're not far from the cabin, probably best
to catch them by surprise. As before, you two go in first. We'll be
right behind you. Remember what I told you before and be careful."
The slayers began to sneak up to the cabin. The place looked
terrible, probably budget cuts prevented any work being done on the
place. They went around to the back as the agents went towards the
front with their guns drawn. The slayers found a window in the back
that was broken and climbed inside. The place looked completely
abandoned, they had probably left as soon as they knew the slayers
were nearby. One of the rooms had the windows blocked, probably where
they slept during the day. The door closed behind them and they saw
that they were surrounded by Spike, Angel, and some other vampire, a
red headed woman and most likely the other hiker. All had shifted
their faces.
"So what brings you two here?" asked Angel, "Come to slay us? Oh
Jordan, Spike told me you had become Faith but I didn't believe him.
It really does suit you and Laura, come to tag along I see. You know
I picked Angel for you, I figured you go with Buffy. So we can thank
you for all of this."
Buffy was clearly upset by this. "You don't mean that, you aren't
yourselves."
"No, we're so much more than those worthless human shells we wore.
We're perfection," he said staring directly at her.
Spike spoke up. "But we're always looking for new recruits. Care to
sign up, you're welcome to join. Your boy toys are welcome to join
too, unless they need a late night snack of course."
They heard gunshots outside, Angel looked towards the door and the
slayers only means of escape,
"Looks like the rest of gang is entertaining them. I hope they leave
some for us." Spike was now right beside Faith, he reached out to
grab her hurt shoulder, his fangs slowly getting closer to her neck.
In a split second, she grabbed him by the neck and chest, picking him
up and throwing him across the room. The female vampire lunged for
Buffy but was quickly staked. She was then grabbed by Angel and
tossed onto a table smashing it. Taking a shattered table leg, she
threw it across the room barely missing Angel's head. He flew at her,
knocking her back in the rubble. Grabbing another sharp piece of
wood, she instinctively plunged it towards him. She stopped right
before it made contact with his skin.
He tossed Buffy into a wall while laughing. "Just don't have what it
takes I guess."
Spike who had just kicked Faith through a door walked over to him.
"We better go, we need to find someplace safe before Mr. Sun gets
here." Both left the room leaving the slayers alone. Soon the agents
came in.
Agent S helped up Buffy, while his partner helped Faith.
He looked around the room. "They won't be coming back here. They
left in a car, we couldn't get to it in time. But don't worry, we'll
catch them."
---
On the drive back to headquarters, Faith stared out the window again.
The sun would be coming up in a few hours. She was twisting her hair
again.
"You know we'll have to kill them next time," she said never taking
her eyes off the sky. Buffy still a little stunned didn't reply.
Faith continued, "If we don't they'll continue to kill people or make
them into vampires, even us if they get the chance. We don't have any
other choice."
Buffy didn't respond. She was practically in a state of shock,
Angel's words had hurt. She knew that Mike had loved her, but it was
never serious. At least not to her. Maybe becoming Angel had been
his attempt to get her to fall for him. Now people were dead and a
government agency was hunting him down with her in the lead.
Finally she looked over at Faith. "I know, I just don't want to talk
about it right now." The rest of the ride was in complete silence.
---
Agent S walked them to a room back at headquarters.
"There are two beds and some clothes to sleep in. You two did an
amazing job tonight, I've seen agents with years of experience die in
situations like the one you two were in."
"That's all well and good, but we didn't catch them," said Buffy.
"We'll look for them tomorrow, just get some rest. Both of you need
it," he replied.
He then left, closing the door behind him. Faith let herself collapse
on a bed.
"So this isn't too bad. The room I mean," she said.
"I'm more concerned with what they're planning on doing with us. Hire
us or just lock us up?" Buffy wondered.
"We're still human, besides we're probably valuable to them. You
heard S, he said we did better than most of their agents. You think
they'll give us codenames, Agent B?" Faith replied.
"Maybe, but you realize you'll be Agent F. I can already think of a
few add-ons to that," Buffy laughed.
"Don't even start," Faith said throwing one of the pillows at Buffy.
The two continued for some time before finally going to sleep.
Meanwhile Agent R and S were walking down a corridor.
"So what do you think about them?" S asked.
"They're great, especially the brunette, Faith I think. At least
that's what the character was named," R said while smiling.
"No, I meant do you think that they'll finish the job?" S said to him
in a very serious tone.
"I think they can, especially when they realize that they can't help
their friends. I know I did," R replied. He looked down at his
shoes, he remembered a few years back when his brother became a
vampire. The Agency hired him soon after.
"Good, I want you to keep an eye on them. The Agency is considering
hiring them, but they want to be sure that nothing will go wrong this
time," S said as he reached the end of the corridor. He typed in a
code to a locked door.
"What do you mean by that?" R asked. He knew that this was the end of
the line for him. Only senior agents like S were allowed in that
room.
"That's classified, forget I ever said it," S said and then closed
the door behind him.
"Yes sir," R said to no one. He then walked back down the corridor
towards the exit.
---
Spike and Angel had just found a house that would at least offer
protection from the sun, which was rapidly approaching.
"So what's our next step?" Spike said while covering up a window.
"Simple, create more of our kind, build a small army." He gestured
towards the family cowering in a corner of the house.
"Then those slayers don't stand a chance. But we're going to need
something," Angel said while helping covering more windows.
"What's that?" replied Spike.
"One of those devices, we're going to create a solution to our little
sun problem."
Part Three - You Can't Go Home Again
Jordan was walking through a forest. He was your average guy in
pretty much every way, height, weight, looks. The usual sounds of the
forest were gone, only a near maddening silence. He continued through
the forest, it was getting darker as he advanced. Soon it was pitch
black, he began to run. There was a light ahead of him, he ran
towards it.
When he reached it, he found a gateway. It was like an archway, but
with a reflective liquid inside it. Almost like the effect of
Stargate he thought. The odd thing was that he didn't cast a
reflection on it, instead he saw a woman on the other side. Was she
on the other side of the gateway? She was beautiful he thought.
Brunette, athletic looking, and sort of a haunted look. He thought
that she looked familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen
her. She looked scared, he wanted to help her. If only she would
come to him, both of them could escape this forest. He motioned for
her to come over to, instead she motioned for him. Finally he decided
to walk through.
He felt as if the air had been knocked out of his lungs, as he gasped
for air he noticed that he sounded different. He looked around for
her, but she was gone as was the gateway. As he turned his head
around, he noticed his hair kept getting in his face. He went to move
it, it was much longer than it should be. Even his hand looked
smaller, he soon realized that he had become the woman he had seen.
He saw the sun rising. There were people all around him. As the
beams of light flooded all around him, the figures began to turn to
dust. Only one remained. The figure walked towards him, as the light
began to get brighter he could see the figure in detail. It was a man
with bleached blond hair and was wearing a long trench coat. The man
picked him up by the neck, his face began changing shape. His eyes
were yellow, his brow huge going all the way to his nose. The man
then looked directly into his eyes and finally bit him on the neck.
Faith immediately woke up covered in sweat. Her heart was pounding.
She sat up in bed and looked around. It was early, Buffy was still
asleep. She looked down at her body hoping the previous few days had
been a dream. No such luck, she was still the world's second most
famous vampire slayer.
---
Not being able to sleep, she went to the bathroom the Agency had
provided for the two slayers. She undressed seeing her nude body for
the first time. Not being aroused by a nude woman was a new feeling
for Faith. But it felt wrong for her to even think that way about
herself now, she just couldn't explain why.
She soon got into the shower and began to bathe off. The water felt
amazing, it was the best thing she had felt since turning into Faith.
She quickly noticed that her shoulder had completely healed. She
started to explore her new body, but quickly stopped herself. It was
still far too new to her. She finished up and toweled off, wrapping
it around her torso like she had seen her mother and every other woman
do.
She soon found some clothes in the room and put them on. They fit
well enough, it was only some yoga pants and a top. She realized that
she was dressed like Echo on Dollhouse, but kept it on. It was
probably more comfortable than the sweatshirt and pants she had found.
Walking around the building she soon found the closest thing to a
break room the Agency had. She discovered a coffee maker and made
herself a cup. The dream was still on her mind. Her hands were
shaking as she thought about it. It felt so real to her.
As she sat there, Agent S walked in. He looked to her.
"Mind if I join you?" he asked.
"Be my guest," she replied.
"You're up early, I'm usually the only one here at this hour." he said
as he sat down.
"Bad dreams, I know it's silly."
"All of us have bad dreams here. Part of the job really, half the
stuff we see are living nightmares."
"How do you deal with it?"
"I get help from Jack Daniels, but I don't recommend it," he laughed.
It was the first time Faith had seen him express emotions. Faith
smiled a little.
"See, you're feeling better already. Would you like to talk about
it?" he asked.
"It's hard to explain. Darkness, dying people, and silence. I don't
know if I should talk to a shrink or post it on a LiveJournal," she
replied.
"Well we do have a psychiatrist here, I'm not saying you're crazy.
All of us are required to pay a visit every few months. You see
enough monsters, you want to talk to someone about it," he looked at
his watch. "Look at the time, I'm about to be late. Don't worry
about the dream. I don't like to admit it, but you get used to them,"
he then got up and walked out of the room.
---
Buffy eventually got up and found Faith.
"So I had the weirdest dream last night," Buffy said as she walked in.
Faith's jaw dropped. "You too? Was there a forest?"
"What?" Buffy was still a little drowsy.
"Were you running through a forest?"
"I guess so, it was too dark to tell. I think Angel was there, I was
chasing him. Did yours have him or Spike in it?"
"Not really," Faith lied.
"What do you think it means? I know that Buffy had prophetic dreams
on the show."
"Maybe it's a warning, I don't know. I'd be on the lookout if we walk
through any forest."
---
Faith and Buffy spent the day at the Agency, not that they had a
choice. They decided to try training knowing that they would likely
have to fight that night. Faith spent most of her time working on a
punching bag, she had no clue how relaxing it was to punch it over and
over. All her cares and worries went away as she slammed into it.
They soon realized that they had lost track of time and that night was
quickly approaching.
---
Agent R came to get them. For a few moments he admired their
strength. Two agents like them would be a fine addition to the
Agency. He knocked on the window before walking in.
"Hey, we're about to do a patrol of a few areas. Apparently some
people are missing from their places of work and it might be best to
check them out," he said holding a folder of the information about the
locations.
"Sure, let us get ready," Buffy said as she finished her workout.
She and Faith got up and left the room, R followed them out trying
hard not to look at Faith's body. He attempted to speak to her a few
times, but stopped himself.
---
Not long afterward, Agents R and S were in the front seat of the car
and the slayers were in the back again. R handed them copies of the
information he had been holding. A list of addresses and names of a
few missing people. A few of them had been determined to be the
hikers from the night before. One address was new and it was one
Faith knew.
"Oh God, home."
The car pulled into the driveway. The police hadn't been there let,
her parents had only missed work. There was no reason to check for
that. Faith got out of the car and ran to the door pulling a key out
of her pocket.
"Wait!"
It was Buffy running up behind her along with the Agents.
"You don't want to get killed do you?" Buffy asked.
"No, but I have to check."
Faith unlocked the door and walked it. It was completely silent. She
walked towards the back of the house where the bedrooms were. Buffy
had been to the house enough to know that Faith had walked towards her
brother's room. Faith opened the door and walked in. She could see
her brother's body on his bed, a bite mark was on his neck. She
touched him, he was cold. She quickly ran out with tears in her eyes.
"He's dead. They did this, I..."
Before she could finish a female vampire came running towards them.
Running on pure instinct, Faith flung a stake directly at her heart.
Before she turned to dust, she recognized the long hair around the
vampire's twisted face. Hair that was once framed the face of her
mother.
Faith dropped to her knees clutching at the dust that was once her
mother, only her wedding ring remained solid. Buffy ran over to her
and looked at the Agents.
"Get her out of here now."
They complied and took her back to the car. Buffy walked around the
house for a few moments, before another vampire ran towards her. She
immediately recognized it was Faith's father. He swung at her. As he
missed, Buffy was able to punch him in the head. As he staggered, she
was able to stake him, turning him to dust. Buffy picked up the stake
and searched the house. After making sure it was empty, she walked
back outside.
"There was another vamp in there, I took care of it. Spike and Angel
weren't there. How's she doing?"
"Not good, but I don't see how anyone could be," S told her. "Look I
hate to say it, but we should probably go to your house."
The terrifying thought crept through her mind.
"Let's go," she said.
They drove to Buffy's house, all the cars were parked as they normally
were. She walked in Agent S, Agent R was with Faith. She quickly
found her family on the floor, all of them drained of blood. As they
were walking out, he stopped her.
"Take some comfort out of knowing they didn't get turned. It isn't
much, but at least you didn't have to kill them." he told her.
"I do, I'm just worried about Faith."
"I know. It isn't easy, but she'll be fine eventually. Just watch
out for her."
"I will, we only have each other now."
They then left the house and got back in the car. Buffy looked over
at Faith, she had quit crying and was twisting her hair again, her
other hand gripped around her mother's ring. Buffy herself was
finding it hard to maintain any composure.
S turned around, he could barely look at them. "We're going back to
base."
Faith looked at him, nearly blind with rage. "Why? We need to stop
them before they kill anyone else."
"You'll get ourselves killed in your condition right now. Believe me,
it's for the best. You're going to want to be level headed for that."
"I don't care, I just want them to pay for this," Faith yelled.
"No, he's right. There is no way we can fight tonight," Buffy said.
"Goddammit I don't believe this!"
Faith fumed for a while, but finally accepted that she wouldn't be
able to get revenge that night.
---
When they got back to headquarters, R took Faith aside.
"Look I'm sorry about what happened back there. I know how you feel
if that helps. A few years ago, my brother got turned into a vampire.
He killed my folks, tried to kill me. I had to stop him, I had no
choice. I wanted nothing more than to kill the vampire that started
all of it. But it begins to eat you up inside, if you aren't careful
there will be nothing left." He looked into her eyes. "We're going
to stop them."
"No, I'm going to kill them for this. I don't care if I die in the
process. They did this just to get to us, that's the only reason. I
could die happy as long as I knew they were dust," she said. Her
voice was filled with disgust and anger.
"You don't mean that. What good is it going to do anyone if you die?
Buffy doesn't want to see you dead, neither do I, and you know that
your family wouldn't want that."
Faith broke down crying again. "I know, I just don't know what to do.
I have never felt so angry in my life. I could watch the world burn
and I wouldn't care, as long as I knew those two were dead."
"Look, you're upset and angry. I understand it, you have a right to
be angry. But if you charge in like this, you will die and they will
likely get away."
"I'd rather die than feel like this."
"I know you don't mean that. I've only known you a day, but I know
you aren't like that. Soon, when you're ready, we're go after them
and we'll kill them. Now come on, let's get inside before it gets too
cold," R said and they then walked inside. He kept his arm around
her. She felt so comfortable there. Her grief and rage seemed to
disappear for a moment, she wanted to stay there forever. She
realized that she was starting to fall for him. It scared her, but it
was the closest she had felt to being normal in days.
As he walked in with her, she kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you," she said.
---
Meanwhile, Agent S was talking with Buffy.
"Look, I don't know what to say. But I want to offer a job to the
both of you. I know you have nowhere else to go. The Agency will
provide housing, health care, even clothing and all that other stuff.
I'll talk to Faith when she's feeling a little better."
"I accept, I'm sure Faith will too."
"Welcome to the Agency." He extended his hand and shook hers.
---
Agent S walked down the corridor towards the locked room. Entering it
he sat at a desk. He activated a panel and a monitor buzzed to life.
A man's face appeared, he looked to be in his 60s.
"Buffy is in, I haven't asked Faith yet, but I'm certain she'll join,"
S said.
"Are you certain that there will be no problems this time?" the man
asked.
"I don't think there will be a problem. She has shown some signs of
being unstable, but given recent events it is understandable. She
just lost her whole family tonight, no one can handle that."
"What about the other one?"
"She is coping a little better. Having the two of them together does
seem to help both of them. Although the ways they are behaving do
reflect the characters from the show. Buffy seems to be more in
control, while Faith is more impulsive."
"Very well, just keep an eye on both of them. Contact us at the first
sign of any trouble. We'll take appropriate steps then."
"Like what?"
"We'll tell you when the time comes. Just don't get too attached to
them."
The screen went blank. S leaned back in his chair and sighed.
---
"So that was the brilliant plan Angel, kill those bitches' families
while we make more of our kind? I would have much rather kill them
now," Spike said.
"All in good time, just wait until we find one of those devices. Then
the real fun begins."
A shooting star streaked across the sky and appeared to land in a
nearby area. He suddenly remembered Jordan telling him about seeing a
shooting star right before he found the device.
"We'll show the entire world what we are capable of, maybe sooner than
you think."
---
Faith was running again. She saw Angel, he was standing over Buffy.
She appeared to be unconscious. She ran towards him as fast as she
could. As she ran, she saw one of the devices with a man standing
beside it, it was her old self. He was saying something to her, but
there was no sound as if a mute button had been pressed. She
continued running. She turned around one more time and saw that the
device was gone as was her old self. She finally reached him and dove
towards him.
Faith immediately woke up. She climbed out of bed and walked towards
the bathroom. Her reflection looked terrible. She found her old
wallet in a bag of various hygiene products she had been given, she
had remembered to carry it with her that first night. Digging through
it she found an old picture, it was her family.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't be there, I'm going to stop them. I
promise," she said to the images of her loved ones.
She then got back on the bed and after some time fell to sleep.
Part Four - Big Bad Wolf
Faith woke up. She took a shower and got ready, the whole thing had
become completely routine to her now. The Agency had given her an
apartment since she was now an Agent. Buffy was across the hall from
her. They had both been hired after the deaths of their families, she
assumed that Agent S had done it mostly out of pity. Still the
apartment was fairly decent, she had been able to get some of her old
stuff back, mainly her movies, computer, and a few other items. She
also had a closet full of clothes provided by the Agency. Dresses,
gowns, various pants, tops, and more underwear than she thought she
would ever need. She quickly got dressed, she still mainly wore jeans
and shirts. She was a little amazed at how easy it was to get used
to all of it. She didn't even think twice about wearing bras anymore.
They were just something she needed now. Buffy had taught her a
little bit about makeup, which she did wear. She told herself that it
was so she wouldn't stick out in a crowd, but she did admit she looked
good while wearing it.
She looked around the room for a few moments, she thought about
getting some posters or something to put on the walls. It would at
least cover the panel that contained her weapons. They amazed her,
stakes, spikes, knives, and even a few swords. She had broken a lamp
swinging a sword around the night before.
Faith's phone rang, she picked it up and spoke for a few moments. It
had been Agent R, he lived nearby and had volunteered to take her and
Buffy to work everyday. She went over and got Buffy, both started to
walk down to where R was waiting.
"So how are you doing?" Buffy asked.
"Better I guess, I didn't fall asleep crying last night. It think
that it was the most sleep I've gotten in days. So I guess that's
something. How about you?" Faith replied.
"About the same as you. It still feels like a nightmare, like I'm
going to wake up in my bed and everything is normal."
"I know what you mean. I sometimes still expect to get a voice mail
from my Mom every now and then."
---
R was waiting for them when they reached the ground level. Faith knew
that he had fallen for her, she had avoided explaining her past to
him. She didn't know why, he just seemed so nice that she didn't want
to upset him or have him get mad at her.
R drove both of them to headquarters. Faith sat in on a few meetings,
but she had tuned them out as she played with a pencil. On the way
out, she got R to tell her what she had missed. Apparently there had
been very little vampire activity lately, it was as if they were
laying low for now. Both slayers had dealt with a few of them, but
Spike and Angel were always absent. Faith learned that there had been
a sighting of possible device activity near the center of town.
Something about celebrities being seen at a Fall Festival type event.
Investigating it would fall to Buffy and Faith.
---
"So why are we investigating this?" Buffy asked as she was looking at
a file on the assignment.
"Apparently it is a low risk assignment and we're the new kids, R said
to think of it as a coffee run," Faith replied.
"Did you see the bit about being undercover?"
"What about it?"
"We have to wear costumes. You're Little Red Riding Hood," Buffy said
as she started laughing.
"What? I thought they said it was some fall festival thing."
"It is, but since its so close to Halloween, most of the people there
will be in costumes."
"Why me?"
"Because I called dibs on the other costume, I get to be a
Ghostbuster. Pay attention next time."
---
Faith looked at the reflection. The costume basically consisted of a
short red skirt, a low cut red blouse, and a red hood. The only time
she had seen more of her skin was when she had been in her underwear.
"I look ridiculous," she said staring at herself.
Buffy walked in wearing a tight tan jumpsuit that didn't zip up all
the way and ended in a very short skirt. "You look cute though."
"I look like a slut."
"It's Halloween, every girl does it. Try not to think much about it,
remember you're supposed to blend in. Everyone there is going to be
wearing some costume they picked up at a store. We can't have one of
us attracting any more attention than usual, we do look like
celebrities.
"Won't we be the center of attention anyways since we're wearing these
things?"
"I hate to say it, but given all the other girls there, most of them
won't be looking at our faces."
Faith sighed. "If I ever find the aliens who made those booths I'll
go Ripley on their asses."
---
Buffy and Faith arrived shortly before dark. There was already a
large group of people there.
"Remember to look for famous people," Faith said.
"Besides our reflections?" Buffy replied.
"It better be something, I don't want to wear this getup for some wild
goose chase."
---
Faith was a little uneasy about all the men checking her out. She
heard whistles a few times. She thought to herself that most women go
through this. She knew that she had checked out women when she was
Jordan, maybe this was some cosmic payback. Hoping that karma wasn't
out to get her, she continued searching.
Eventually they saw Megan Fox or at least someone who looked like her.
They ran over to her and pulled her aside.
"Let me guess, weird booth?" Buffy asked.
"Uh yeah," the Megan look-alike replied. She seemed to be a little
confused.
"Do you know where the booth is?" Faith asked.
"I had it with me yesterday, but someone stole my backpack, I was
hoping I could find it," The girl replied. She was sounding like she
was on the verge of panicking.
"What's your name, your real name?" Faith asked her.
"Billy."
"Look we'll help you, I promise. But you're going to have to come
with us," Faith replied.
The slayers took the transformed Billy to a fairly empty area and sat
down. Buffy got out a cellphone and contacted the Agency. Faith sat
with Billy.
"So how old are you Billy?" she asked.
"Nearly 13," he replied.
"Any reason you picked Megan Fox?"
"She's really hot in Transformers. Once I figured out what the
machine did, I wanted to see her naked."
Poor kid, Faith thought to herself. Now he'll get to see her naked
every day.
"Are you going to be able to help me?"
"We will as soon as we can find the booth."
"What if you can't?"
"I don't know, we'll work something out. Just curious though, how
long have you had the booth?"
"I found it in the woods earlier today."
"That's good," Faith remembered that the booths usually operated for a
few days, four she thought. Maybe if the device was still in the
area, it could solve everything.
"I want my Mom."
"I know, you'll get to see her soon Billy." Faith put her arm around
Billy, he laid his head on her. She had no clue what was going to
happen to Billy, but she hoped he could go home. "I'll make sure of
that."
Buffy walked back over. "They're coming to pick Billy up. We should
head over to the parking lot."
---
They began to walk towards the park. Faith was still uncomfortable
with the stares, but most of them seemed to be focused on Billy. One
guy stopped her, he looked to be in his mid 20s and was as skinny as
could be. Buffy and Billy kept walking, not noticing what happened.
"Hi, I'm Dennis. What's your name?" he asked her.
"It's Kelly," Faith lied. It was the first name that popped into her
head.
"You know you look like that actress on Dollhouse."
"Really? I've never heard that before."
"So Kelly, would you like to go somewhere later?" He reached to grab
her arm.
Faith backed up a little avoiding his hand.
"Actually I'm quite busy, maybe I can catch you later." She then ran
to catch up with Buffy.
Dennis was a little upset. The booth he had found had given him the
ability to control people's minds. He had already tested the ability
a few times to great success. That bitch could have been his, he just
needed to maintain physical contact for a second.
"I'll get her one day," he said. He pulled the device out a backpack,
she did look almost exactly like Eliza Dushku, he wondered if she had
used it as well.
For across the crowded area, Spike had been watching. He began to
walk over to Dennis.
"I noticed the device you were carrying," he said.
"What about it?"
"Remember that girl in the red hood. She and I go way back, I could
help you get her in any condition you'd like. I just want that device
in return."
Dennis thought about it for a moment. "Sure."
"Now we may need a distraction or two before I can get her."
"I know just the thing, just pick any random person and I'll take care
of the rest."
---
They had reached the parking lot, when they heard screaming. Luckily
an Agent had arrived, they dropped Billy off and ran towards the
scene.
"Looks like a job for the slayers," Buffy said as she ran.
"Up, up, and away," Faith said while keeping up with her.
They reached the center of the festival and saw it. A huge werewolf,
it was thrashing through the various stands built for the festival.
"A werewolf? Who wants to be a werewolf?" Faith asked.
"Who cares? We can ask it after we stop it," Buffy replied.
It immediately spotted the slayers and ran at them. Buffy dived out
of the way as it slashed at her, its nails had to be several inches
long.
"Oh grandma, what long nails you have," she said.
She managed to get behind it and deliver a kick to its back. That
only made it madder.
"And such a hard head you have," she continued.
Faith took a piece of wood and attempted to use it as a blunt weapon
only to have it shatter across the beast's face. It drew blood.
"At least we know it bleeds," she said. "And if it bleeds, we can
kill it."
"Now isn't the time to quote 'Predator'," Buffy yelled as she threw a
cinder block at its head.
"It's better than making any more Little Red Riding Hood references,"
Faith said before being knocked back by the beast.
"You are dressed appropriately for them," Buffy said as she ran over
to help Faith up.
"You aren't going to ever let me forget this are you?" Faith jumped
away avoiding a kick.
"Never." Buffy dodged the beast's fist as it swung at her.
Faith saw a long piece of metal, she grabbed it and ran towards the
wolf. She didn't even think as she ran, it all became pure instinct.
Her heart was racing, the adrenaline coursed through her veins. She
jumped towards the wolf and stabbed it in the chest, driving it all
the way through. Blood poured out of the wound. For one brief moment
it looked directly at Faith, its eyes seemed to be pleading with her.
Maybe it was her imagination, but it seemed like it was trying to
speak to her as it opened and closed its mouth. It stumbled for a few
moments before finally dying.
---
Faith sat in the car as the Agency removed the body of the werewolf.
Buffy walked over to her.
"So what's up?" Buffy asked.
"I was just thinking. About the future, stuff like that," Faith
replied.
"Go on."
"What do you think is going to happen to Billy if we don't find that
device or it quits working?"
"I don't know, I would hope they would send him home. I don't know
how they would explain it. I'm sure they've done it before though."
"I hope they do B, he's just a kid. I don't want to see him turned
into a killing machine like us."
"We're no more killing machines than a police officer is. We're
protecting people."
"Its weird. I know I had to stop it, but I felt good when I killed
that thing. I got all worked up over killing it, like I'm seriously
turned on right now. But it used to be someone, it was once a normal
person. It looked at me B, like it remembered who it was. But I
killed it anyways, it was as if I was playing a video game or
something."
"You were doing your job. Who knows what it could have done to the
public? You didn't have a choice."
"Maybe. You know, I think that device has changed more than our
bodies. I'm thinking differently now. I'm thinking more like Faith,
the show Faith. It feels good to beat up vamps, like really good. I
can barely stop myself sometimes. It feels like some drug, I don't
want it to stop."
"Come on, you aren't turning into Faith. Its just your imagination
getting to you."
"Even my accent has changed, yours too if you haven't noticed."
Buffy knew she was right. She had noticed that. She assumed it was
her subconscious trying to sound how it thought Buffy should sound.
"Listen to me Fai... Jordan, you're still you. It doesn't matter what
you look like."
"Tell that to Mike and Chris. Face it, all of us are changing. You
know it, why do you think we keep calling each other Faith and Buffy?
I honestly can't stop myself from calling you B. It just feels
natural. It was like a joke at first, now I can't stop. Our old
names barely have any meaning to me anymore, I can't think of a single
thing that hasn't changed about me. I'm even attracted to men now,
seriously attracted. I can barely stop myself from having certain
thoughts now."
"You're in the body of a teenage girl, your whole body is being
flooded with hormones. I don't think the show's Faith liking guys has
anything to do with it."
"It changed my brain somewhat, its the only explanation."
"Well maybe, it doesn't mean you're going to start hurting people and
become an outcast. Even the show's Faith turned out fine in the end."
"I know, but I'm terrified of the path it took to get there. I don't
want to hurt anyone."
"It's still your choice. You're in charge, not Faith. Remember
that."
"I hope you're right."
---
Faith walked around the festival, the place had cleared when the wolf
had shown up. There were still some people around the parking lots,
but they were rapidly leaving. She just wanted to forget everything.
She had only been Faith for a few days but already it felt like a
lifetime. She kept walking, the parking lot was connected to another
lot by a short nature trail. She walked through it, it was completely
silent. Faith suddenly felt like this was very familiar, like deja
vu. Suddenly it hit her, the dream. She ran to the end of the path
and saw Spike in the distance. He was with that guy who had been
bothering her, both were getting in a car. She started to run towards
them. It was then when she saw it.
A device, the guy was holding it, she remembered how it was able to
fold up. She ran faster than she ever had before. If only she could
reach them, it would fix everything. But they were driving away. By
the time she reached the curb, they were long gone.
She ran back towards the center of the abandoned festival. When she
reached it she yelled to Buffy and the nearby Agents.
"I saw Spike, he has one of the devices. We need to catch him," she
was nearly out of breath.
"What?" Agent R ran over to her.
"I saw him, he definitely had one," replied Faith.
---
Agent R helped her search for him while Buffy and another Agent
searched elsewhere, but they could find no sign of the car. They had
been searching for hours when they decided to call it for the night.
"Are you absolutely sure it was Spike with the device?"
"Of course, why would I lie about something like that?"
"Look I know you wouldn't lie about it. But you've been under a lot
of stress and it does do things to the mind."
"I'm not going crazy. I may be a lot of things, but I know what I
saw."
"I believe you Faith. I don't know why, but I do."
"Thanks. That means a lot to me."
She immediately leaned over and kissed him. At first, he was a little
shocked, but he soon began to kiss back. Faith felt like she had
butterflies in her stomach, 'all that from a kiss' she thought. Her
felt nipples stiffen and she could feel herself growing aroused. It
was so different from what she was used to, but seemed familiar in a
weird way. A part of her wanted to fight it, but it was soon buried
under overwhelming desire. The kissing continued for a few moments
before Faith broke it off.
"Look there is something you need to know about me, about who I was
before."
"I know, I saw your file not long after we first met. It doesn't
matter to me who you used to be, I still love you Faith."
"I know, I think I've known for a while now. But I'm just so confused
right now. It feels right when I'm with you, but I can't forget who I
was. It's like I'm being haunted by those memories. I feel like I'm
being torn apart sometimes, between who I used to be and who I now. I
just wish it would end."
"I don't want to force you into anything. If you want to wait, I'll
wait for whenever you feel like you're ready."
"No, I want this."
She embraced him again and started kissing, she felt whole when she
was with him. She didn't care anymore about her past. It didn't
matter who was in charge anymore, this was her choice. It had felt
like she had only dreamed she was Jordan and she had loved being him,
but that dream was now over. She was Faith now and that was who she
wanted to be.
Part Five - Acceptance
Faith sat down on the bed, Agent R had just dropped her off at her
apartment. Her mind felt like it was on fire as she thought of the
last few hours. She had kissed Agent R, she could still feel her
heart pounding from the moment. It hadn't gone much further than
that. It was mostly a blur to her now, but she seemed to remember him
touching her breasts. She wished he had done more, but he stopped
himself.
She had practically begged for him to come to her room, but he told
her that he needed sleep for the search tomorrow. She guessed he
didn't want to take advantage of her, especially given the way she was
acting. He was just too nice of a guy, one of the reasons she had
grown to like him. All of the times he had caught her up on what
happened during the meetings she ignored. The one time he offered to
help her train and how she had accidentally knocked him out. Once
awake, he had laughed it off and told her that things like that
happened. The next time he offered to help, he showed up wearing all
sorts of protective padding.
She got off the bed and walked to the mirror. The reflection was no
longer alien to her. It was scary how quick that feeling had come to
her. Everything felt like it had come too quick, it was as if
womanhood was a pool and she had been thrown into the deep end. She
had thought that most of it had to do with to do with being Faith.
But maybe that was only part of it. It was true that Faith had
certain traits, traits that she was aware that she now had. She was
quick to anger, the past few weeks had taught her that. Faith's
attitudes about sex also seemed to have been copied onto her. She had
gotten use to easing these feelings every night as she bathed, it was
so different the first time she tried it. So new, but almost
familiar.
But it didn't seem to help much tonight, the experience with Agent R
seemed to have awakened something in her. It was like her body ached
for his touch. Her only thoughts were of him as she continued, her
body was trembling as she lay on her bed again. She didn't even know
his name, but she knew she loved him. She finally got some relief,
enough for her to get some sleep. As she sat in the darkness she
thought about what she was going to do about the device. If it was
still working as she found it. Go back to being Jordan and try to
forget all of this? Then she thought about R again, she really didn't
want to lose him. She fell asleep as she pondered it over and over
again.

Faith woke up to the sound of Buffy knocking on her door, she was
late. She quickly got ready and got to the waiting car downstairs. R
was driving, the same as always. He smiled at her when he saw her,
she smiled back. Buffy watched the two for a moment, trying to figure
out what was going on. When they arrived at headquarters, Buffy
pulled Faith aside.
"So what the hell is going on between you and the boy scout?" she
asked.
"Nothing," Faith re
