Hi everybody. My name is Ralph O'Rouke. (Yes I get kidded about it.) My
friend's was Steve Becker. It is now Stephanie. This is how Steve
became Stephanie.
It was Friday. We were finished with work for the week. We went to the
Pirate's Roost Bar and Grill. The owner liked old style sailing ships
and he felt the name gave the place a style all it's own. The nautical
theme did fit in due to the fact it was near the harbor. The owner even
had his desktop and the bar top made from a deck of a shipwreck he
helped salvage.
Mike O'Mally, the owner asked, "Hey Ralph! Are you free next week?"
"Yes I am Mike. What is up, you old pirate?" said I.
Mike said, "Harbor Days is coming up."
I asked, "You need me to be Capt. Morgan for that time? It is no
problem." (Side note to all you readers. Captain William Morgan is a
Blood Relative of mine. Belle)
Mike said, "Ya sure. The kiddies will love it."
Well after a few beers, I went home. I was not going to charge Mike a
dime for my Capt. Morgan stunt. I was not going to look like one you
see on that rum bottle.
When I did Capt. Morgan, I gave out bubble gum and peppermint sticks. I
did a magic act and made balloon animals. A local TV station wanted to
have me do it for a daily afternoon program and on Saturday mornings. I
was tempted. There were a few details on the contract that had to be
checked before I said yes or no.
The next day after an early morning round of golf, Steve and I went to
the Pirates Roost for a few cold beers. Steve said, "Hey look at the
new game. I am going to try it."
I said, "Knock your self out. I am going to check out the ball scores
from last night."
Ten minutes later, Mike and I heard a woman scream. Right where Steve
was sitting, there was real knock out with Steve's clothing on her. The
clothing did not fit her. She smaller than Steve. "Maam. Who are you
and where is Steve hiding?" asked I. (I thought Steve was playing a
joke.)
Steve said, "I am Steve!"
Mike was laughing. He said, "Alright Steve. It is too late for April
Fool's day. Come on out. The joke is over."
She said half in tears, "I am telling you the truth! I am Steve!"
I said, "Mike, I have the feeling that Steve will not show his hand
until we play along and ask a few questions."
Mike asked, "What questions do you have in mind?"
I responded with, "The basic ones. That will include how did you get
this way? And ones that Steve will only have the answer to."
Mike said, "Alright then, let us begin. Okay Miss, How did you get this
way?"
Steve said, "I was playing the new game and it changed me."
I asked, "Now how did the game change you?"
Steve said, "Well first the game asked things like bust size, hair
color and style, and eye color."
Mike said to me, "Well Steve knows how to write a good script. Plus she
is a good actress."
I said, "Go on with your tale."
Steve said, "The game said set a high score and you win a prize. All
results are final."
"Tell us more please, Miss." said Mike.
Steve sobbed and went on, "I had set the high score. Then there was a
flash of pink light. I felt tingly all over. I looked in the bar
mirror. Plus the game is dead."
Mike said, "Well the game will not turn on. Might be a blown fuse."
I said, "That was the easy. Now for the hard ones."
Steve was in tears when she asked, "Why are you treating me like this?"
Mike said, "Steve is well known for his jokes. If this tale is a lie,
then Steve has come up with a good one."
"Now we will begin with the Steve questions, some might easy. The
others will be hard. Now what is your middle name Steve?" said I.
Steve said, "I have no middle name."
"Well you're right, but Steve could have told you that. What was the
name of the dog you had as a kid?" said I.
Steve said, "I had no dog. I am allergic to both dogs and cats."
Mike said, "She is two for two. Of course, she could have been taught
the answers."
I asked, "Who was the first girl you kissed? I know you don't kiss and
tell, but make an exception in this case?"
"Mary Ellen Moffit. Back in the sixth grade, in your father's garage."
said Steve.
Just then an old man and young man walked in to the bar. The old man
said in very gentle tone, "Ease up on the young lady. She is who she
says she is. You are wise in your caution for her sake. Here is the
little troublemaker." As he said that, he walked to the game.
Mike asked, "How can you know that Sir?"
The old man said, "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mr. Merlin. I am
a wizard with Spells R Us. My partner's name is Art King."
Mike asked, "And how does that helps us?"
Mr. Merlin said, "First permit me to fix Stephanie's clothing so that
it fits her better and for me to buy a round for the house."
As Mike was getting three bottles of Bud and two of Guinness Stout,
Stephanie's clothing went from the golf outfit that Steve wore to a
knee length navy blue skirt, short sleeve sweater, purse, and sandals
with a one inch heel. I could see that Steve now Stephanie was five
foot six inches tall instead of his six foot frame. Shoulder length
hair that his original hair color. Dark Brown. Brown eyes. Same as
before. A 38 C bust line, 24 inch waistline and 34 inch hips.
Mr. Merlin went on. "This game was sent to me by another wizard as joke
on me. Art, not knowing what it was, sold it to the people who supply
your video games. Your game supplier set it up here thinking it was a
regular game. Stephanie, you must see your sister to learn about how to
use make up and personal hygiene items. The game was a one shot deal.
You will be a woman for the rest of your life. See a gynecologist for
birth control needs."
I said, "Is that it? Steve now must live as Stephanie. Who is going to
pay for this?"
Mr. Merlin said, "I understand your concerns. Your friend is stuck in a
new role for life and not of her will. She was a victim of joke that
was meant for someone else. The prankster will be punished. My partner
will be reminded to double-check all items before selling them. Mike
and his game supplier will learn to be more aware in buying things. You
will be the only one to gain from this."
Stephanie asked, "How will he do that?"
Mr. Merlin said with a mischievous look on his face. "Ralph here, gets
an assistant for his illusionist act. Ensign Stephanie." As he said
that, Mr. Merlin changed Stephanie's clothing again to look like a
female pirate. "Remember," he added, "I do real magic. Young man, do
you want a few items from my shop on the house for your act?"
I thought about it before saying anything. "Maybe later. If what I saw
today is any hint of what can happen, I best be careful with your
wares."
Mr. Merlin just chuckled and said, "You are wise for your age. Stop by
my shop any time you want. Now after this round, take your friend home
and get her ready for your act."
After a second drink, Mr. Merlin, Art, and the game left the bar in the
wink of an eye.
Most of the next week I had just enough time to work Stephanie into my
act for three bigger stunts. For most of the show, she would just hand
me the props and hold the goodie bag. I did add the disappearing lady
act, the lady in the basket of swords act, and splitting the lady into
three parts trick. All three tricks were easy and two of them work on
the same guidelines.
Well my show was a hit as normal and the TV station picked me up with
Stephanie for a Saturday morning show. Weekdays would be thought of
later. I was also get better bookings through the station.
I have to go now. I am working some new tricks and I need everything to
work just right. I thank Belle for helping me tell this tale. Ralph
