Wyoming Ute IGT, Long Stretch, part 2
By: Malissa Madison
Abe and Ramona were happy to find that they had a market for all the old
cell phones they'd collected along the highways over the years. They
were being bought up by people and aliens alike. Even their collection
of cans and bottles were an item of interest.
Ramona had sold a Pepsi can for thirty Galactic credits. She showed Abe
the gold coins with excitement. Then they were approached by someone
else, someone who had just appeared from nowhere.
"Excuse me, might I see one those things you call a Phone?" the woman
had asked.
When Abe had handed one to her she asked, "How does one operate such a
thing?"
They quickly showed her, having found that somehow JD had managed to
charge all of the batteries and repair the broken ones.
"Please, do not sell anymore until I return," she had asked after giving
them the price they'd asked for the one they had showed her.
"Calista, what do you have there?" asked Unicorn.
"It is a device called a Cell Phone. The humans use them to talk to one
another over long distances," she explained to her ship.
As Unicorn scanned the item she made a few noises of amusement. "They
are so close, wanderer was correct in her decision to remove advanced
technology from that planet."
"What do you mean 'So Close?"
"With a simple yet minor adjustment to the programming of this I could
turn it into a Jumper almost like Allie's. All they would need do was
dial the number to whom they wished to visit in person," explained the
ship. "Then input a security code and press send. Here I have
reprogrammed this one and entered the number for Spider Silk
Lightfeather, why don't you try it? The security code is 3, 2, and 3."
Unicorn knew that of all the human's in the convoys, Spider Silk was
Calista's closest friend.
Opening the phone Calista pulled up the number for Spider Silk and then
pressed 323 before pressing send. In an instant she was standing in
front of her.
"Oh hello," giggled Spider after yelping in surprise. She looked at her
own cell phone which had rang and she had answered before Calista had
appeared. The identifier showed that it was an unregistered sender.
Peaking Calista said, "Yes that's my number. Then she asked the air,
"Uni, could you do the same thing to Spider's phone?"
"Yes Calista, or you could go into the Bluetooth pairing mode on both
phones and share the program with her."
"Program, what program?" asked Spider.
Leaning over to whisper into her ear she answered, "One that will turn
yours and Torque's phones into Phase Jumper's, able to transmit you to
any number that you dial and input the security code before sending."
"Really?" her eyes lit up with excitement. "What about my girls?"
"We could do the same thing for their phones. You could pair them with
your phone so they would go with you. Or you could simply hold their
hands." She was told.
"This isn't really common technology is it?"
"No so please be careful who you share it with," Calista told her.
"Oh I will leave that to you and Unicorn to decide," she hugged the
other woman, tears trickling down her cheeks.
"Spider, you gave my husband and I, a special night when you watched
Allie for me. Might I watch your two aboard Unicorn for you?"
Spider knew what she was being offered. Looking at her watch she saw she
still had four hours before her scheduled phone call with Torque.
Feeling giddy she said, "Yes, thank you."
"Star 69 will reverse the call so you can return to where you called
from, or you can simply input Beasts number into the directory." Calista
advised. "And you already have my number so you can come and check on
the girls if you like."
Allie rushed over with Tabitha and Amy just then. "Mommy can they come
and see Princess," she asked.
"Please Mommy," pleaded the two human girls.
Kneeling Spider said, "Yes you may, and you may spend the night as well,
so go pack your nities and Mommy will see you in the morning."
It had only taken a few minutes for the girls to pack a single knapsack.
When they were gone she dialed Torques number.
"Hello?"
"Torque, I love you," she said.
"I love you too, you're a bit early. But I'm happy you called."
"Are you alone?" she asked.
"I will be in a moment," he was hurrying to his room aboard the truck.
"Tell me when you're in your room, I have a surprise for you," she
giggled nervously. She couldn't remember anyone else who ever made her
feel this giggly before.
When he was alone in his room he heard three beeps over the phone. As
she said, "I really do love you."
Suddenly she was there in front of him, closing her phone.
"What the, how did you do that?" he was both stunned as well as happy.
But before she answered she reached forward pulling him into a deep
passionate kiss. The subject of the teleportation was soon forgotten as
they fell in a tangle of half shed clothing onto his bed.
She hurriedly helped him wiggled out of his clothes as he helped her do
the same. Then she had kissed her way down his body to his throbbing
cock. She could feel her own dampness as it oozed out to coat her nether
lips, as she began sucking him hungrily. His hands gripped her hips as
he lifted her up and flipped her around over himself. All thoughts of
anyone else were forgotten.

Talia found that while they were in the shower her new Grandmothers had
been there and left her something. The soft white Doe skin dress was
covered in intricate bead work as were the soft moccasins. The dresses
pattern had been altered to allow for her wings.
As Darlene and Sugar began braiding her hair, Daffodil stood ready with
the feathers that would be braided into it.
They hadn't realized that the trucks had been rearranged slightly while
they were shopping. And it seemed like there was no one else around as
they made their way towards the diner. What they found when they got
there was that the reconfiguration of the trucks had allowed them to
open up an even larger space. One that would let everyone attend the
ceremonies at the same time.
There were new couples, the newly adopted children, and the Kittens all
in attendance. Looking around they saw a few more people they didn't
recognize. But everyone was friendly and happy as they greeted her, an
air of excitement filling the huge room.
Even the couple Churl and Calista were there, Spiders daughters sitting
with them.
After everyone had had a chance to eat the three Spirit Women stood and
began the Ceremony.
"We are here together to share in our many traditions, Peoples from
different tribes and cultures, Sharing the traditions of most intimate
bonds between individuals as they become one with the rest of the People
around them," Began the one everyone knew as Grandmother Night Bird, the
Sioux spirit Woman as she walked around the fire pit which had died down
to just a low glowing pit of coals.
Stepping forward Mother Fox began, "First we welcome those who are new
to us." A drum began a slow rhythm. Holding out her hand toward Talia
she said, "Come child of Aviara, welcome to the Tribe of the Ute Nation
and to the People." Sugar and Daffodil came with her as she was unsure
what she should do.
"Spread your wings Child, show the People your joy at being part of the
People," offered Mother Rain.
Spreading their wings Sugar led her daughter as she began to weave and
dance in time to the beat of the drums.
"Leola, Tigress of Terrellia, Welcome," she joined the dance, tears of
joy streaming down her face, as she was accompanied by Marline so that
everyone would know to which home she belonged.
Reaching out toward them Paula said, "Come Glitter, Sequin, Sienna."
Together she and Oshiwa lead them into the dance.
The biggest surprise though was when Mother Rain stood out from the
rest. "Djulie, Klinda please all of you join in the dance. Are you not
among us as well? Traveling with and accepted among the People?"
Together the two Madam's led their girls, not just Janee, Keelie and
Stone, but all of them into the dance.
Soon it seemed like everyone was dancing with joy as people would slip
into the ring around the fire pit, as others would drop out.
Talia had no idea that she and her mother were now performing in the
role of the Eagle Dancers until the drum slowly died away. When they
started to sit down though it was the three Spirit Women together who
held their hands high.
"Never in the histories of the People have we had two natural born Eagle
Dancers among us as a Tribe. Tonight we celebrate with joy in our
hearts."
After returning to their seats Sugar asked, "What did she mean by Eagle
Dancers?"
Smiling it was Otter's pleasure to tell them. "The eagle is one of the
most Sacred creatures. It symbolizes vision, strength, and Freedom. It
flies above watching over the land and the People."
She sensed that now the two were a bit frightened by the knowledge of
how they were viewed by everyone. "Fear not, did you not notice the
others who were dancing with you. The bears, the wolves the Cats. Every
creature of strength and freedom is represented in the dance. The reason
you two are special is because there are no Shape Shifters among us able
to change into a bird."
"Oh," Sugar giggled. "I am happy then that we are able to fill that
void."
"Now, for the second part of tonight's celebration," called out Mother
Rain. "Any who wish to declare their Union with one another, to show
that they are together in love as well as Marriage please step forward?"
A chair was placed on the stage that had risen above the fire pit.
A round of giggles broke out as Dale and Dax together led Carline,
Marline and Leola out onto the stage. Dax was carrying a second chair
and now everyone was confused. But it was soon cleared up as Marline and
Carline both announced as they presented Leola to their husbands, "We
bring you our Sister Wife, Leola."
Both first wives were pulled, giggling and squirming across their
husbands lap. The chairs were turned so that the men faced each other as
they gave their wives five smacks each. Paula stood behind them as head
of her family. "Dax as the First Husband will deliver the first swat of
Claim," she announced as the chairs were pulled together and Leola was
pulled across both laps at the same time. She only got five smacks but
Dax delivered the first and last as his right as first husband.

On Saturn another conversation was going on between Torque and Spider.
She had explained to him how the cell phone jumper worked and now he
held it in his hand calling her mother.
Beaver was at first agitated that someone would dare calling during a
ceremony. But Fox urged her to answer the call.
"Spider, is everything alright?"
"Mother Beaver?"
"Yes who is this?"
"I am Torque," she heard Spider gasp in the background. "Are the
marriage spankings still going on?"
"Yes you interrupted me as I was watching, why, is spider OK she isn't
here?"
He'd managed to pull on his jeans before he made the call, now he
reached out and pulled Spider Silk into a hug. "Yes she is, we'll be
there in a moment." She heard three beeps over the phone as he pressed
3, 2, 3, and then send.
Suddenly people gasped in shock at first as the couple appeared in their
midst next to Beaver. She noted his bare chest, and beavers total nudity
just before he lifted her over his shoulder and turned headed for the
stage.
"Forgive me, I couldn't wait and take the chance that someone else might
try to lay claim to my woman," he said to Mother Rain as he slid Spider
off his shoulder. With a red faced grin she pushed him down into the
chair then dropped across his lap eagerly to loud cheers.
"I've been very naughty my husband," she giggled. Then yelped as his
hand came down in the first smack.
"I love you now and forever" "Forever and always"
Smack, "I will provide for you and our children" "I will cook and clean,
and provide you with more children"
Smack "Your children are my children" "My children are your children"
Smack "I will be yours as long as you will have Me." they said together.
Smack "Forever and Always" "Always and Forever"
As she stood up he wrapped his arms around her, pressing his forehead to
hers. "Now may I meet my daughters?"
Babsie wrapped a clean white table cloth over her shoulders like a
blanket and kissed her cheek. Then Tabitha and Amy were both there on
the stage as he knelt hugging them tightly.
Holding his girls in his arms they stepped from the stage amid cheers
and well wishes.
Everyone was surprised when suddenly the Alien Churl stood and hoisted
his wife Calista over his shoulder. "This is a very nice custom," he
said as he leapt to the stage next. The spanking was delivered, and
though the words were alien, everyone understood the depth of love being
displayed.
"Mike what are you doing?" asked Melody as he stood and lifted her over
his shoulder.
"Something that is long overdue," he answered smacking her ass. "Now
stop squirming and admit you deserve it," he started for the stage.
"Ohhhhh godddddd," she moaned deep with desire. Now she understood why
he had wanted her to wear the skirt to dinner, and why it had excited
her to wear the skimpiest one she had. She was subconsciously hoping he
would do this.
After the fifth smack when he stopped though he whispered, "I'll not let
you leave us again."
She giggled, "Promise?"
As the pause between spankings drew out Erika motioned to her Kittens to
join her, even Kairi stood unsure what was about to happen.
"You have been naughty little Kitten's, teasing me when you know I am
looking, letting strangers pat your cute little asses." She was quickly
restraining their wrists behind their backs. Next to them Grace was
doing the same thing with Danielle.
Suddenly though a commotion erupted a few tables over as Vet grabbed
hold of Hannah hoisting her up over his shoulder.
Looking she saw that as he carried her up onto the stage she was holding
the leashes of two of the older Kittenettes, Two who were just barely
old enough to become full kittens. She recognized Jade and Arina as they
were led by their leashes up onto the stage behind the couple. Though
their hands were not bound, Arina and Jade held them clasped behind
their backs.
"What's this?" asked Fox curiously. She knew that the Kittens would be
spanked by their Cougar or the appropriate Cougar designee.
"I thought I might take this opportunity to 'Spank' my intended wife
before she 'Spanks her kittens." Hannah gasped in shock.
"Vet we never discussed this." She started to protest, but already he
was sliding her from his shoulder.
"Girls, Kittens, I think she needs convincing," he said. The three had
discussed it before coming to the ceremony knowing that Hannah would
only try to delay any commitment.
"Please?" they asked as they now guided her across his lap, holding her
hands as they looked deep into her eyes.
When he was finished she kissed him first then the two kittens who found
themselves now restrained. "Thank you, but you two were very naughty to
help him surprise me that way."
Remembering their past, the spankings she delivered were lighter than
most of the others would receive.
"My wife," Vet announced. "And my Daughters who are her Kittens."
Mistress Gwendolyn took the stage next, explaining the reasons for the
binding of the kittens, as well as the importance of both the collar and
leash. "Though the Collar is a symbol of ownership, it is also a symbol
of Responsibility. Wearing the collar of a Cougar, each Kitten has
chosen to place her trust and wellbeing in the hands of another. The
Collar symbolizes that trust, as well as the fact the Cougar has taken
ownership of the Kittens wellbeing. In being bound during the spanking,
the kitten symbolizes that she has bound herself willingly to the wisdom
and care of her Cougar." She paused for a moment then continued on. "The
leash symbolizes their being led through the most troubling of times for
a young Girl, her transition into womanhood."
"Each Kitten has the freedom to leave her cougar at any time she
chooses. They are not truly slaves, and are never kept against their
will. That is why the necklace around each kitten's neck holds a key to
unlock the collar. All a kitten need do is remove her collar to declare
her freedom. Upon reaching the age of twenty one, or completing her
higher education every Kitten is given her freedom to choose her own
path in life and take responsibility for herself. And it is offered
again after each spanking. This is our tradition that we would share
with you now." As she had spoken Hannah had unbound the wrists of the
Girls.
Everyone now understood that those Cougars who kept Kittens against
their will were not among the ranks of those who were now with them. The
Spanking ceremony was now viewed in a whole new way as Hannah now
offered each of the girls her freedom.
"Kitten's this is your choice, to continue under my care, or to go your
own way," she held out her own collar keys to the pair.
With trembling hands each girl reached out to curl the fingers of
Hannah's hands around those two keys. "I will stay bound to you in
love," they answered.
The procession followed for those who were to receive spankings, and now
it was understood. Those new faces in the group were Cougars who had
come all this way for the ceremony, having been informed by Gwendolyn of
when and where. Some would be continuing the journey while others would
be returning home when the convoys continued in a day or two.
Torque sat with Spider at her parents table, the two girls had climbed
into his lap looking at him closely.
"I always thought you were my Daddy," Amy informed him as she hugged his
neck. Tabitha was next, "Thank you for being my Daddy."
They were almost heartbroken when he said he had to return to his own
convoy. Still the family was there around them as he explained to the
two girls his reasons why.
"I have to make sure they all get to Omega safely, and resign my command
to my commander. I made a promise to her before we left Earth."
"Yes you did," said Stephanie Zimmer as she stepped up to the table.
"But that promise was before you knew how deeply your love ran, or in
which direction it would go." Her smile was warm and welcoming.
"What are you saying, Ma'am?"
"I'm saying that I just informed the Major that she is in command. If
you return to that convoy now you are a fool. You have everything here
that you need to make a happy retirement. Though I still do not
understand how you got here when your own convoy has just left Saturn."
She kissed Spider and the girls on the cheek. "Now if you'll excuse me,
I need to go give my blessings to another happy couple."
Stephanie had been told by wanderer that Unicorn had reprogrammed a few
Cell Phones as an experiment to see if they would be misused. She was
happy to see that so far only one person with a military background had
used one. But it had been used for a good cause. She planned to talk
with her about it.
Seeing their commander walking toward them the two happy couples drew
closer together. "So, you four are retiring as well," she smiled. "I
can't say we won't miss you but I can say that everyone will be happy
for you."
The singing and dancing in celebration continued, though many had
already left to put children to bed.
As Darlene, TooTall and Sugar led their girls through the open area
toward their own group of trucks they heard the whine of an alien Semi
as it pulled slowly into the garage. Looking in that direction they saw
Reaper as it pulled through the doorway. Half a dozen of the Alien
Galactic Police force walking along in front of her. When she cleared
the door they saw the truck that followed, 'Pole Dancer'. The light
strips on the ceiling were flashing red, leading back the way they had
come. As soon as Pole Dancer cleared the garage doorway another truck
came into view, Lady Justice.
She felt shivers run up her spine as those on foot turned and came
toward them. Suddenly Wolf was there. "Darlene, TooTall, this will only
take a moment. We need to get Sugar's statement," he said and held out a
clipboard sized hand scanner toward her. "Just place your hand here and
think about your time in his service."
Ten seconds later he said, "Thank you, your thoughts have been
transcribed into a statement of the facts."
"Wolf," interrupted Sugar. "What will happen to the others? The ones
that had no part in his crimes?"
"They are free to go their own way."
"Litta, she drove but she was always good to everyone."
"By the courts reckoning he owed them all a great deal of money that he
kept for himself. Pole Dancer will be sold at auction, and the proceeds
will be split between them."
As they had stood talking more people had emerged from the convoy.
"If you sell the truck, those pour girls won't have a way to get home,"
pointed out Momma Otter. "Did anyone think to ask them what they wanted
to do?"
One of the Alien Police said something into his forearm, and a door
opened up in Reapers side. The Alien who stepped out was both big and
scary. He was flanked by two Terrellian Goth's.
The huge Spiders stood almost as tall as he did, and when he stopped
they stopped.
"Taro, bring me the ladies." The one he named turned and raced off
toward Pole Dancer, two more Goth's emerging from inside to climb atop
the huge truck.
By now Tim, Old Elk, Missy and the Spirit Women had gathered with them.
Litta stood unsure of what was about to happen.
"Driver, do you and the others wish to accept ownership of the truck,
Pole Dancer, as restitution for back payment?"
She looked at those with her, and then at the ones from the convoy who
were nodding their heads yes.
"We would if we had others to travel with, to help keep us safe from
bandits."
"Earth Convoy Leaders, would you accept them among you?" it was said as
if he didn't expect them to accept them, given their previous
occupation.
"Welcome to the Spirit Journey, Children of the Stars," said Night Bird.
The obvious commander now thrust another scanner toward Litta, "Sign for
Ownership. You will be expected to pay for the registration transfer
once you reach Omega."
Unsure but happy she placed her hand on the scanner. When it was done,
he made a barking noise and half a dozen previously unseen Goth's
scrambled from the top of Pole Dancer to disappear into Reaper.
"Otru, we will stay and visit with our family until they continue their
journey," said Wolf.
The two clasped forearms, and the alien Commander squeezed his shoulder
gently. "Klathnar tells me that there is an Earth Spider here who
travels with these people. He wishes to meet this pretty lady who looks
kin to his own kind."
"Dad," Lorelei asked. "Can someone go ask Spider to bring Bob?"
"Beast, please ask Spider to bring Bob, she has a few cousins who wish
to meet her." Old Elk asked the trucks.
A few minutes later Spider stepped out to stare in amazement at the pair
of Terrellian Goth's. "I'm sorry, I would bring her, but the Egg Sack
had broken and she won't leave her young." Her eyes never left the
larger of the two spiders.
She noted his foreleg hooks and his oversized feelers. "She might allow
him to come to her, but not any of the females," she said.
"I would not harm her or her young, and my females will stay here.
Arlina too is guarding her young, so they understand her nervousness,"
the Huge Spider spoke into her mind. "Also the Phase Spiders would end
any who harm them."
Torque and the girls had joined them now, and Tabitha was excited at
seeing a Goth up close.
As they walked Tabitha kept stumbling as she watched the huge spider
following beside them. When she almost fell again he reached out quickly
and took hold of her, gently lifting her to his back.
She ran her fingers through the fine hairs that sprouted over his outer
shell. "You are as soft as you are pretty," she giggled.
"Thank you Earth Child," he said.
At the truck Klathnar stopped just outside, "I will remain out here so
she does not feel threatened."
Crawling to the open door, her back covered in tiny spiders, Bob stood
conversing with Klathnar.
At the end, one of her young left her back to crawl onto Otru's hand. "I
thank you for this honor. I will look after her, and see that she gets
to visit whenever we are near." He said. Klathnar would offer you a gift
of his kind as well.
A spider about the same size as Bob raced with a speed and grace no one
had imagined to stand beside the huge spider.
"Mille has volunteered to come and learn from you, to be raised by Bob
as a daughter." Said Otru. "An exchange of young in the name of peace
and friendship."
Spider was amazed when Bob actually allowed the spider into the truck
with her own young. "How old is Mille?"
"A week, six of your Earth Days. She will behave and obey Bob." He said,
"As will Tiny obey Sheena, Mille's mother."
Tiny was placed on Klathnar's back and he returned to Reaper. Tabitha
quickly scrambled into the truck and returned with a container of
crickets. "For when she gets old enough to hunt," she said.
"Mille will take about twenty years to attain her full growth. But she
will be a loyal companion and protector."
What was said telepathically to Spider came from the Goth still inside
Reaper. "She is the smallest of her hatching, and would not last much
longer among her own once they are released on Terrellia to mature. But
fear not for Tiny, she will be greatly care for and loved by all of the
adults here. She will never go hungry or be mistreated."
They talked for a while longer about what to expect of each of the young
as they grew and matured. And then he said he needed to be going to file
his final report before delivering Norkum to the prison on Saturn's
surface.
Before he left though he gave Spider the name of a planet where Bob's
Male young and unclaimed females could find a free home to live and
thrive in the wild. Clearly he had been studying Tarantula's because
when she pulled it up on her computer she saw it was just the right
natural habitat.
Mille assured her that she would help keep the young males from fighting
before they could be released there after being taught to hunt for
themselves.
As Reaper pulled away headed back the way they had come, the rest got
busy welcoming the new arrivals and helping them to find a place within
the three sections of the convoy.
Mille seemed sad to see Reaper go, but she was happy to know that she
would not be competing for a place among her siblings.
Torque noted how his wife and the girls talked with the spiders and how
the spiders seemed to understand. "You really can talk to them can't
you?"
"Yes we can Daddy, and you can too."
"How's that?" he asked Tabitha.
"You make a bond with one of our kind," said a voice above him, and he
turned to see Ariel for the first time.
"You spoke out loud, I heard you," he said as his eyes took in the red
hour glass on her carapace.
"Ariel, have you come to see the young?" asked Spider.
"Yes and I see that you have a Goth riding with you as well. Does your
Mate wish to be able to converse with us the way that you and the
children do?"
"Well Torque, how about it?"
"Uhh, sure it would be nice to know what they're thinking or if they
need something."
Slowly Mille crawled up onto the fold out table, her forelegs waving in
his direction. "Torque, Mille would make a bond with you if you would
accept. But you must understand first that it is a lifelong bond of
friendship and she will hunt with you."
"What do I do?"
"It is an exchange of blood, like becoming a blood brother."
He let Spider knick his forefinger, as Mille bit her right hand feeler.
Then they pressed the wounds together mixing their blood. Mille's had a
minute amount of her venom, which sent warm relaxing sensations through
him.
"That was not so bad was it?" asked the tiny spider in his head.
"Wow, I really can hear your thoughts," he chuckled.
"What about mine," asked Bob?
"Yes yours too."
"I wish to thank you for saving Willow that day in the park," she said.
"That boy was bent on crushing her, but you stopped him."
"You are welcome, I only did what was right to do," he answered. "I just
hope he learned something from it."
By the next morning word had spread that there were new members who had
joined the convoy. And that one was a Terrellian Goth. One of the most
downloaded videos, was that of the meeting between Spider and Otru. All
anyone had been able to discover about the Goth was that they were used
to hunt. And would follow scents that even Wolves and the largest Cats
wouldn't.
Now they saw Klathnar saving Tabitha from falling, and allowing her to
ride upon his back. They'd gotten used to spiders by now after the
introduction of Phase Spiders into their midst. But Mille was new and
they were curious. So there was no end to the people coming by to look
at her during breakfast, especially the youngsters.
Sherry, Tiffany and Becca were no different than the rest, they
scampered over as soon as they knew Spider was there with Tabitha and
Amy.
They were oohing and awing over Millie when a lizard crawled out from
under Sherry's hair on her shoulder. The reaction from the juvenile
spider was instant as she sprang back toward Torque. "There is a Dragon
on her shoulder." At first everyone thought it was fear, but then they
realized she was taking a defensive posture.
Torque leaned closer, "Millie that is not a Dragon. It is a Brown female
glass tailed skink, a pet of the girls."
"Not a dragon?" she looked from Torque to Spider, images of Dragons
flowing from her thoughts into theirs.
"No, but I am sure she is just as frightened as you were a moment ago,"
assured Torque silently. "Bob's kind on Earth hunt them for food in the
wild." He thought to her everything he knew about Earth lizards, and
Salamanders.
"They are cousins of the great dragons then, I would be her friend if
she would allow it," said Millie.
They were just about to leave when the convoy's pack, as the wolves had
begun to think of themselves came to see the spider that would grow as
big as a horse. There were twelve of them, fourteen if you counted old
Half Tail who was always with Night Wolf and Molly who followed Missy
everywhere.
The males, Dark Shadow, Tank and one named Swimmer were out in front of
the nine females.
"Shadow, she looks so small for one who will grow as big as they say,"
put in Keisha. "Perhaps if we nurse her she will grow faster."
Until that moment Darlene hadn't realized the wolves had form into three
sub packs. Keisha, Mole Digger, and Pretty were all in Shadow's pack.
Looking at her more carefully she realized that Keisha was pregnant. She
realized then that all of the wolves in Shadows pack were companions of
someone in one the trucking families. Tanks Pack was bonded to those
teaching at, or going to Malissa's Academy, and Swimmer's pack were
bonded with instructors at the Military Academy.
"Never fear love, the Terraformer's are populating the planet with
suitable wildlife," TooTall whispered. "There a good number going to all
three Academies who come from a hunting culture. So there should be no
shortage."
She made herself a mental note to look at the Iridani Five's Habitat and
Wildlife at her next opportunity. Then they went with the girls and
Sugar out to the horse corrals so the both Sugar and Talia could
continue their riding lessons and Talia could practice her flying.
About halfway through the morning they were interrupted as a stir went
through the growing crowd of people there encouraging her.
"One Sock is in foal," they were informed.
For Talia it was an experience of a life time, getting to watch the new
Filly as she was being born. Not only did the People stand guard, but
also the horses and the Wolves. The event was broadcast by the
surrounding trucks to all who wished to witness the first birth along
the Journey. The foal was named New Haven by her heard herd stallion.
Talia had been allowed to be in the forefront of those watching and was
given the honor being the first to help rub her dry. She was so happy
that when she turned to look at her parents, after Daffodil had led her
up to the front she actually spread her wings in joy.
She hadn't realized what she was doing as she cried out, "Oh Mommy it
was so wonderful." Suddenly she found TooTall's out stretched arms
catching hold of her and realized that she had flown the entire forty
feet to them, and her Daddy had reached up to pluck her out of the air
in huge hug of joy.
Later it would be hard to say which had the most celebration. The first
horse birth or the first free flight of Talia.
After things calmed down, Sugar began encouraging her to fly farther and
higher. Always ready in case she tired too quickly to land. Her other
Mommy and Daddy were there as well as the rest of the family.
In the afternoon they actually got around to doing some real shopping.
Darlene and Sugar with their daughters joined Missy, Fox, Swallow and BJ
and Jill with the younger girls of the two families and headed into the
mall.
They'd just entered a ladies shop and the girls were looking at the
clothing that was the same, yet different no matter what planet you
seemed to be on. The differences were just very subtle, yet seemed to
make all the difference.
They ran into May and Field Mouse and Porcupine shopping together with
Rose and Erika. They were excited as they seemed to find a treasure of
bright and sexy clothing and lingerie designed to fit those of the Furry
Races.
"Look Momma, these pantys have a short slit and a button to closes it
around my tail," giggled May showing off the pantys to the rest of the
families there. "I don't have to worry about them falling down anymore."
A sly grin Fox said, "I thought Jason likes it when they fell down."
"Momma!" but she giggled. "I am definitely getting these," she giggled.
"No more worrying about flashing mu bare bottom. Or my pantys falling
around my feet in the diner." Her blush was bright and happy.
As they shopped the drivers began discussing things with the rest of the
family.
It was Fox who first expressed her concerns about housing once they
reached their destination.
May looked at her 'First Mother'. "Momma, didn't you wonder why the
living sections of the trailers are exactly like the houses everyone
lives in back home?"
"Well I had wondered, I mean it really is good to not feel like we're so
crowded into such a tiny space," Fox answered.
"When we get to Iridani, the trailers we've been pulling will break down
into the individual homes of the people living in them." explained
Missy. "For those of us who live in the actual trucks, well our trucks
sleepers will split off a section to join with the rest to create the
family's home residence."
"What about trailers to haul freight? How are we going to earn a living
without those?" asked Sugar with a bit of concern.
It was Rose though who provided the answer. "The trucks that are just
hauling freight and supplies won't lose their trailers. They'll still
have the full trailer. "But the rest of us will have the trailer frames
that will convert to flatbeds first. By the time we reach a place to
pick up a load we'll have trailers that we can convert to any
configuration we need."
"How do you know that?" asked Missy of her daughter.
"I was curious, so Danny, Longreach and I started asking questions," she
smiled.
Then Swallow asked another question as they were headed back to the
convoy. "Darlene, what about the other three trucks you guys have?"
"Mom, I'll be driving Jammer and Sugar will be driving Mack." She
answered.
"What about Mackenzie? You can't just take off and leave her sitting
there at home, not anymore."
"Oh," giggled Darlene. "She'll be running Tandem with Mack until Little
Mack is born. Then she'll have a flatbed to carry Little Mack while
Daffodil and Talia begin their drivers training. But they'll always be
with us, and we can run a training link so they don't have to worry
about anything."
"You've thought a lot about this haven't you?" asked Missy and Fox
together.
"We sat down and discussed it in detail with the trucks Momma," answered
Sugar. "And running Tandem the Mack's can actually out pull the
Kenworth's in weight, kind of like the Earth locomotives I've seen
pictures of."
The older women were actually impressed by how much Sugar had learned in
a short time.
"So you aren't worried about Mack pulling a load that might cause
Mackenzie problems?" Missy already knew the answer before she asked the
question, she just wanted to reassure everyone else.
"Momma," Darlene said. "Mack's trailer is going to become our house, and
the Tractor barn for our trucks when we're home."
"Yes it is Eagle, Hawk and Night Flyer that we are all worried about,"
added Sugar.
"Oh, why those three?"
"At some point they will have to stop traveling, a Truck Stop Diner
isn't very profitable if it is always moving around," pointed out Zoey
as she joined the group.
They had a pretty good haul of things they needed by the time they
returned to the convoys garage area. Seeing a flurry of activity they
realized they must have missed something. All the livestock and horses
were being loaded up.
"Oh hey we're glad you're back. We were just about to start calling you
all," said Tim.
"What's happening?" asked Missy.
"Big storm coming in. Jumper says we need to leave her in the next five
hours or we'll be snowed in till spring." He answered.
"Just how big is this storm if our blowers can't push through it?"
"Missy," Old Elk got her attention. "The locals are predicting twenty to
thirty feet of snow and ice mixed."
Now they joined the flurry of activity helping each other to get ready.
In a nearby doorway hidden by shadows sat Moss. Watching those around
her as they prepared to leave. A silent tear ran down her face as she
watched, seeing the amount of love extended to the horses and other
creatures. She'd come to like watching the horses, especially the new
foals. Not even the wolves bothered her when she sat close by watching.
She'd even made friends with one named Tank, who often brought her food
and sat by with her as he helped guard the herd.
Now watching the last of the horses prancing up the ramp she stood to
run away and hide. But as she turned she found Frozen and another wolf
there. Reaching out with her left hand she gently patted his fur covered
neck, wishing her other arm still worked.
The men were busy breaking down the corrals as the other wolves now
joined Frozen. They kept pressing their heads against her as she rubbed
each one in turn. With each nudge she backed up further until she
finally realized that she was between the huge trailers.
Suddenly a man was there, "Hey kid you better hurry up and get inside.
We're about ready to leave." He picked her up and set her just inside
the door before moving on. The wolves split up then heading towards
different trucks. But before she could get out the door closed.
She found herself in in a dimly lit trailer. Looking around she heard
noises and realized she was in the trailer with the cows that the humans
had milked twice every day.
Scared and confused she found a stack of hay and curled up, her limp
right arm nestled into the soft hay as she closed her eyes trying to
think. She had no idea how to get out of here, what was she going to do?
Could it really be this easy to just disappear? To leave her mother and
the oaf of a cruel stepfather behind? The gentle motion of the trucks
movement slowly rocked her to sleep.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"Dale, you better go back and check on the cows," Carline told her
husband. "This is liable to be a rough run." They had fourteen blowers
out front and she was constantly having to help Hawk adjust the traction
over the ice.
"Yeah you're right Love," he kissed her before heading back to check on
the livestock. They usually laid down if the gravity and traction
stabilizers kicked in. but still they didn't want any to get hurt.
He was grabbing handfuls of hay to feed the cows when he found her. She
was lying there asleep, and he wondered why she hadn't awakened. Then he
remembered that the truck often did that to the cows when they needed
rest. Hawk would do something and they would just lay down and go to
sleep.
When he finished checking the cows she was still asleep. So he scooped
her up in his arms and carried her forward.
"You better get strapped in, we're about to shoot the portal," Carline
said when she heard him enter their living compartment.
Looking around he didn't know what to do with the girl, so he carried
her forward to his seat.
"What the hell? Dale where did she come from?" she asked him.
"She was sleeping in the hay, I didn't want her to get hurt if things
got rough.
The commit markers were flashing as they flew past.
"Shit, we can't stop now," she said as Hawk took over to shoot the
portal.
"Carline, she's been pretty badly injured. Look at how her arm just
hangs there."
Carline reached across and brushed the hair out of her face as the hazy
fog enveloped the truck.
She looked up at her husband as he cradled the young girl in his arms.
Then she noticed the pointed ears. It didn't make sense, she couldn't be
an Elf, and Elves had pale skin and white hair. This child had dark skin
and coal black hair.
"Hawk, identify the girl please," she requested.
"Identity unknown, her Race is Dark Elf. They are a subterranean species
with opposite characteristics of the more common Woodland Elves."
"What characteristics?" asked Dale?
"Their children are not cared for as are Woodland Elf Children. They do
not hold to high moral standards or codes of conduct."
"Thank you Hawk."
"I would suggest she be seen by Dr Tsing as soon as the Star Train is
engaged. I have taken measures to ensure she gets some much needed
rest." Hawk informed them.
As soon as they were all through the portal Carline turned the truck
over to Dale and took the girl from his arms. She carried her back into
the living space and lay her gently on the bed. Then got a warm wash
cloth and began gently cleaning away the layers of grime.
With eat swipe of the wash cloth more questions were raised as the
bruises came into view. And more tears flowed from Carlines eyes. How
could anyone treat a child this badly?
She'd gotten to the limp arm, clearly crippled when it had been broken
and not properly treated, when the girl stirred. Feeling her stiffen,
Carline looked up into her eyes smiling at her through her own tears.
"Ssshhhhh, you're safe here, no one will hurt you." she said as soothing
as possible. "We just want you to," she was interrupted by one of the
wolves bounding in and jumping up on the bed to curl up next to her.
She'd never seen this wolf before, and knew that there hadn't been any
pure white wolves in the convoy.
"Carline, where'd the Snow Wolf come from?" asked Dale.
"Probably the same place this little one came from." She answered
gathering the girl up in her arms. "I'm going to take her to see Dr
Tsing. I want him to look at her arm. You can come along too," she said
to the wolf who jumped off the bed to follow.
"Dr Tsing and Tsing are both in the diner Carline," informed Hawk.
"Good we can get them both something to eat," she stepped up to the side
door and knocked first. But it opened and she stepped through into her
older sister's quarters. Then she stepped into the little hallway and
into the diner.
Going first to the counter she poured a cup of coffee and drew up a
glass of milk. Then sat the girl on the counter in front of her.
"What's your name Sweetie? Mine's Carline."
The girl looked around her first, obviously still frightened. Her hand
shook as she lifted the glass to her lips, and Carline steadied it lest
she spill it. "F, Frozen," she nodded toward the half grown wolf.
"What do we have here Carline?" asked Babsie as she stepped around the
counter. "Oh, hello." She smiled seeing the wolf for the first time.
"Babsie, Dale found her in the hay just before we shot the portal," she
told her sister who was putting milk in a bowl for the wolf.
A look passed between the sisters before she spoke her next reply. "From
the looks of her she's much better off with us than she was back there,"
meaning the planet they'd just left.
"M, M, Moss," muttered the little girl.
"Moss, that's a pretty name," said Paula joining her two younger
sisters. "Are you hungry?" she spread Honey Butter on a slice of bread
and handed it to the girl who devoured it in three bites. She noticed
that Carlines arm remained protectively around the child the whole time.
"Paula?"
"Go ahead, she needs to be seen by Dr Tsing," the older girl kissed her
cheek then the young girls. "Welcome to the family Little Moss."
"Mom," interrupted Glitter. "Where'd the Dark Elf come from?" she asked
Paula as Carline started toward the Doctors' table.
"Dark Elf? You mean that child?"
"Yes, she is a Dark Elf. Their children grow up wild, uncared for.
Probably more abused than we ever were."
"How old is she do you know?"
"If her name is Moss, she's probably about four or five. She used to
hang out in the lower levels."
Paula didn't need to hear any more, she'd already made up her mind about
the girl.
"Paula, Carline came this way with," began Dale entering the diner
through the personal door.
"Dale, she's over talking with the Doctors. How do you feel about having
a daughter?"
"She needs us, and I think we need her as well," he answered his sister
in-law. "And she comes with her own Wolf Companion." He reached down to
scratch Frozen's ears.
Moss was actually surprised that Frozen had decided to come with her.
Though she was still unsure how the bitch wolf had gotten on the truck.
She was still trying to figure out why the human man had just accepted
that she belonged there. All she could remember clearly were his kind,
gentle eyes behind the stripe of blue across his face like a mask, and
the two feathers sticking out of the knot at the base of his ponytail.
His features were a lot like many of the men she saw coming and going
from the diner. She wasn't sure what to think about being held so much.
Carline hadn't let go of her completely since she'd awakened, and at
first it had frightened her. Her own mother had only held her when she
was using her as an excuse to get out of work.
But this woman, Carline, she was gentle and caring. The two men Dale and
Dax looked to be twins as did Carline and Marline. She figured it out
that the four women she'd met so far were sisters. And she was sure that
the two Men must be husbands to the one who held onto her and the other
one, Marline.
Then she saw Glitter and caught her breath, knowing that Glitter had
been bought by these people. Seeing her here she was afraid that this
was like her Aunts brothel in the lower levels.
Feeling the girl tense up when Glitter passed by again Carline asked
gently, "Are you afraid of her? You shouldn't be. She's going to be your
cousin."
"Cous, cousinnn?"
"Yes a cousin. She has been adopted by my oldest sister Paula."
"Sisssterrr Paul la,"
"Moss," began Glitter. Then launched into a language that Carline could
not hope to understand. When she was finished the girl looked up at
Carline and hugged her with her one good arm. "M, Mutter?"
Pointing to Dale, Glitter said, "Da. Much, much, deep caring. Love." To
Carline and Dale she said, "Moss doesn't speak anything but Elvish, but
she is a fast learning."
She felt Moss' arm tighten around her neck and looked to see Leola
standing behind her. "Carline you take the day off. I'll handle your
shift. The two of you need to get to know each other, now shoo."
Carline leaned in and kissed the Terrellian on the cheek. "Thank you
sister."
"Carline, by my guess she is probably about five, maybe six." After a
second Dr Ta Tsing said, "I'd like to get hold of whoever broke that arm
and didn't get it treated."
"Yes Ta," said Myumi. "But with Acupuncture and therapy we can help her
to regain some use of it."
"Yes, that would be much better for her than the alternative option. And
she is too young to go through the pain and healing again for a process
that might not work," agreed Ta Tsing. "Already there has been much
nerve damage." Then he offered her something brightly colored on a
stick, and gave another one to Carline.
When it became clear that she didn't know what a sucker was, Carline
showed her.
"Moss, like this," she put it into her own mouth. Then watched the
girl's eyes as she tasted the rich water melon flavor of her own.
As Carline started toward Big Dog, intending to borrow some clothes for
Moss she realized that Frozen was right on their heels. Reaching big
dogs trailer the first one they encountered was Shadow.
"Shadow, this is Frozen. Frozen this is Shadow. Is Darlene or Sugar
here?" she asked the wolf as they sniffed each other and then Frozen
lowered her head in submission before racing off to the front behind
Shadow.
"Hay, you're a pretty little lady, where'd you come from?" she heard
Darlene ask.
"Umm, Darlene." She looked up to see them standing there. "Can I borrow
a few things for Moss?"
"Daffodil, Talia," she called out and the two girls rushed in from the
cab.
"Yes Mommy," they answered.
"Could you find a few things for Moss please?"
Seeing Talia with her wings she was surprised. "I see you," she said.
Both girls stood staring at each other for a long moment. Then Talia
began talking a mile a minute and Moss joined in. it was clear that none
of the older people understood a word. Then Sugar stepped into the room.
"Talia, who are you speaking to?" she spotted the girl. "Oh my, a Dark
Elk. I see you little one, welcome." She said the last in both languages
so Carline would know the meaning. "Carline are you adopting her?"
It was the first time anyone had actually asked, and Carline didn't
hesitate to respond. "Yes."
At Moss' confusion Sugar touched Carline on the shoulder, "Mutter,
Momma," she said.
"M, Momma?"
"Yes, Momma."
Moss responded by pressing her head to Carlines breasts, hugging her
tighter than before, "Momma."
"Sugar, what's the word for father, or Daddy?" asked Carline.
"Da, or Dada," she answered.
Talia hugged both Sugar and Darlene, "Momma."
When TooTall entered she hugged him and said, "Dada, Daddy."
Gradually she got down and began to interact with the two other girls,
still not getting very far from Carline or Frozen.
"Hey everyone, we are trying to locate a Snow wolf that was spotted
right after we linked up," said Tim. "Anyone know where she is?"
"Tim," said Carline. "She's with me and my daughter. Her name is
Frozen."
"Your daughter you say?"
"Yes Daddy," said Darlene.
"Dale found her in the hay, when he was checking on the dairy cows
before the jump," explained Carline.
"Your family sure is growing, I'm happy for you all." He said. "Have you
told your parents yet?"
"No not yet, everything is just happening so fast." She giggled and saw
the girl looking at her, a real smile on her for the first time since
she'd seen her.
They were still talking and Sugar was teaching her a few words that she
might need to know when Zoey stopped in to visit.
"Oh my gosh Sis, she is the cutest thing I ever saw. Are you going to be
able to handle her and a newborn in a few months?" she reminded Carline.
"Have you told or Mom and Dads' yet?"
"No have you?"
"Have I told them about what?" asked Zoey.
"That you were already three weeks knocked up when Tom Cat came and
dragged you out of the diner," she grinned at her baby sister. "Or are
you telling everyone you're just gaining a little weight from sitting in
the truck so much?"
It was true, the girl was really beginning to show, and her top button
on her jeans wouldn't fasten anymore. "I just make sure I'm always
sitting down when I talk to them," she blushed.
"So you're going to say it was right after the two of you left in his
truck?"
"So my niece has a Snow Wolf companion, how cool is that?" she tried to
change the subject.
"I guess I'll just have to tell Momma to ask you to stand up for her the
next time you talk," Carline said.
"No, please don't. I don't want Daddy to be disappointed in me. He said
I would probably end up knocked up before I was married."
"Zoey, that's so much bullshit. Daddy will not be disappointed in you,
and you know it. He'll just tell me and Marline that we better get busy
to make up for you being the first one to give them a grandchild."
"But Paula already gave them four," said the youngest of the five
sisters. "Besides I was wondering if you had any idea why Leola is
acting weird lately."
"What do you mean weird?"
"She keeps snitching bites of raw meat off the grill when she passes it.
And sometimes she looks like she's about to cry. Oshiwa told me about
it."
"Sounds like she's pregnant to me," said Darlene. "TooTall, we're going
to go to the Diner so the girls can introduce Moss to some others to
play with."
"Ok, have fun," he said.
It took them a few minutes to get everyone together at the counter. Then
Carline asked Marline if they'd told their parents the good news yet.
Picking up the conversation Eagle automatically placed the call.
"Zoey, do you have something you want to tell us, grinned Jimmie
Brightfeather.
"Oh god," she moved her hands to cover her stomach.
"Don't get so stressed Baby, we've known since before Tom Cat showed up
here to drag you out over his shoulder," said their mother.
Turning to the girls playing Carline said, "Moss, come here a minute
please." the other girls motioned as they all rushed over together.
"Yes Momma?"
Carline leaned down and picked her up. "Mom, Daddy, this is Moss, Dale
and I's daughter."
"Hi there sweetie, you're very pretty and shy," they said.
"Momma, Daddy she hasn't learned a lot of English yet. She mostly speaks
Elvish.
They saw the wolf standing there pressed against Carline's leg. "And who
has the wolf claimed?" asked their mother.
With a shy giggle Moss said, "She Frozen. I find her, safe her."
They wouldn't know the full story of Moss and Frozen for some yet, but
the two had been together for almost four months now. Ever since Moss
had found the abandoned runt near death in the first freezing storm of
the season.
She'd been constantly under foot, and her mother had wanted her out of
the way so that she could be free to bring people home with the girl's
stepfather knowing about it. So she'd put the girl outside telling her
to go to her aunt's house. The two had nearly frozen to death before
Moss carrying the pup inside her thin jacket finally made it around the
side of the mountain to a roadway entrance.
Only her natural instincts allowed her to save the pup as she stole food
for the two of them. The fact that no one had ever come to look for her
only proved to her that no one cared.
But now she was surrounded by people who doted on her, showering her
with affection and accepting both her and Frozen into their lives. She'd
never known her father, and her mother refused to tell her who it might
be.
She it wasn't anyone from her home mountain, all the gossip she'd heard
told her that it was a Mountain Elf from some outside clan. But Mountain
Elves were different, they doted on children and families were more
important to them than anything else. Her mother had often threatened to
send her to her father, then she would laugh and say, "I would if I knew
where he lives, you are too much like him."
But she would never say how it was that she was like her father. Others
though would tell her, "You have a kind and gentle heart, just like your
father. Those elves he comes from could never survive among our kind."
And then the day the huge Earth convoys had arrived was like watching
some fantasy unfold in front of her. The Mountain Mall, had known the
moment the first truck had cleared the portal. And she'd watched wide
eyed with wonder as the trucks poured in through the weather gate one
behind the next.
She didn't know what to think as everyone got out and began helping each
other set up the corrals and holding pens for the livestock. The horses
and the cattle, even things called sheep and goats that she had never
seen before. And then there were the wolves that traveled with these
people. But not just humans were in this group. There were other races
as well, and she became fascinated with watching them every day.
She remembered that first night, watching a young girl in a short skirt
carry out a large tray filled with food. She spoke with one of the men
watching the cows and he motioned toward her direction where two corrals
joined together. Then he carried a small table over for her to set the
tray on.
While no one was watching she'd crept forward and taken two of the
sandwiches. One for herself and one for Frozen. It was her first meal in
four days, and she'd curled up in a corner with Frozen and fallen
asleep. When she woke up there were other wolves there with Frozen, but
the two had remained apart, afraid to venture fully into the group of
people. They just sat by and watched everything that happened around
them.
When the groups began going into the Mall she had followed to see where
they were going. And then she saw the group of men as they met up with
another group. She knew where they had to be headed to. Men always
sought the whores on the lower levels where her Aunt had her stable set
up to provide services.
It was easy for her having grown up here to follow. While they took an
elevator, Moss had crawled into a ventilation shaft and slid to the
bottom unseen. Her curiosity drove her to wonder which of the girls the
men would choose.
She couldn't understand why they had carried Glitter away though. And by
the time she'd climbed back up the air shaft she had no idea what had
happened to her.
She watched the two huge RV's that she knew were moving brothels. She'd
seen the truck filled with girls after it had arrived a week before so
she knew by instinct what they were. So she'd watched for Glitter there.
Then she spotted the Avians, mother and daughter at one of the horse
pens. While everyone was watching them she'd wandered among them and
gotten more of the sandwiches and a container of the white liquid that
had come from the cows. She was almost back to her hiding place when a
very old woman had stepped in front of her.
Frightened now that she'd been caught she almost ran. But the woman had
just smiled and caressed her cheek saying something she couldn't
understand, before walking away supported by a wooden staff.
The night that everyone was inside the large area between three of the
trucks, only the wolves guarded the corrals. And she had again crept
forward to steal food and try to discover what was happening.
No one seemed to notice as she'd crept closer. But she was still afraid
to go inside lest she be trapped. Everything seemed to be like a
celebration at first. And then hearing the first smack of a hand on a
bare bottom, she panicked and ran, not knowing what was going on. But
still the celebration continued until after she'd fallen asleep curled
up in the blanket she'd stolen that smelled like the horses.
Frozen was paying more and more attention to the other wolves now and
she felt lonely again. But still she watched these strange people.
And then the day came when she felt the new storm building outside, and
they began a flurry of packing everything up to leave. She felt the
tears as they began to roll slowly down her cheeks. Then Frozen and
another wolf were there with her watching.
First Frozen and then the much larger wolf had nudged her for attention,
pressing their heads against her forcing her to step back so that she
could scratch their ears and under their chins. She hadn't realized then
what they were doing until it was too late and she was in the midst of
the big trucks.
And then the strange man just came out of nowhere and put her on the one
with the cows as if she belonged there.
The last four days now seemed like a dream as she sat in Dale's lap
watching as her new Momma showed her how to milk a cow. When she went to
carry the bucket to the big container though she stopped dead in her
tracks.
She'd heard about the Phase Spiders, but she had never seen one in real
life.
"Ariel, you are frightening Moss," Dale said. And then as if now knowing
her name she heard the spider began to speak to her. She could feel it
in her mind as well as hear and understand what she was saying to her.
"You have found your future Child of Stone and Birch. And you are with
your new family now who love you and will care for you as you should
be." Mind spoke the Spider.
"Birch?" she asked, knowing that her Dark Elf mother's name was stone.
"No child, do not seek him, your mother destroyed his love, and he is no
more. But now you have a family who loves you beyond your imagination.
Be happy for this is where you belong." Ariel had projected everything
she had learned about the girl in the matter of seconds that she had
been mentally linked with her, to the two who had adopted her.
"Daddy?" she asked seeing his tears as he hugged her tightly.
"Thank you Ariel, and yes we will cherish her. She is truly a gift from
the Great Spirits." Dale told her.
"But I am Dark Elf," she said.
"No you are a child of the People now," she still looked confused. "Moss
is a name worthy of the Ute Tribe," Dale told her.
"Your Daddy's name among the people is Standing Rock, and mine is Cactus
Flower," Carline told her.
"But the man who," she said something in Elvish but they both now
understood what she meant.
"Is the Spirit Warrior, Son of the Great Spirit and Moon Mother." They
looked around to see Fox standing there. "It is as Ariel said, this is
where you are meant to be if Shodajiji himself placed you here. You are
a Spirit Touched Child and none will ever harm you Moss."
After that it seemed like it became easier for her to learn to milk the
cows and goats. Though it would take a while for the muscles in her good
hand to gain strength. She was given the chore of bottle feeding the
young kids that would be raised to expand the growing herd of dairy
goats.
She smiled and whenever she heard a new word, or something she didn't
understand she would ask. Sometimes her cousin Glitter or Sugar were
needed to translate. And her new parents were just as eager to learn her
language.
Everything fascinated the child, including the acupuncture treatments
that had stopped the dull ache in her ruined right arm. She was amazed
that she couldn't feel the needles as they were placed. She said they
tickled, and was assured that was a good sign.
In the week that it took to reach Omega she had learned more about
living and being loved than she ever had before. She was sitting beside
Carline in the passenger seat as her Daddy, Dale guided Hawk through the
portal. Her young eyes wide with excitement at seeing a new world. A
world she never dreamed of seeing before.
Now the big trucks began mixing in with the traffic zipping by going to
and from other portals and other cities and towns. It reminded Carline
of the busy highways around Boulder in rush hour traffic. They were
three hours away from the big City and the other convoy. She could feel
the growing excitement emitting from those around them, growing stronger
with each passing Kilometer.
