Wyoming/Ute IGT, Omega Seven
By: Malissa Madison
Looking out the windows we could see the different people as they stood
or sat in vehicles watching us as we drove by. Some looked like they were
really surprised at seeing so many of us. There were now forty trucks
including both the Tin Cans, plus we weren't sure how many more would be
joining us in the other convoy. I know that TooTall was busy looking for
his Brother and Uncles trucks as we reached the edge of the city.
I knew they would stand out from the Academy's trucks, but I had no real
idea what the Alliance trucks would look like.
"You've actually seen a lot of them on the road, just never knew what
they were," both Daddy and Dad told me.
Soon we began seeing parking lots filled with trucks from other races.
Then as we reached a more heavily trafficked area, we found ourselves
being guided by local police cruisers. It was strange seeing a vehicle
that hovered above the pavement rather than rolling along on wheels. But
they led us toward a huge parking area and we soon discovered that it was
a series of parking lots.
"Grampa, Grampa." Daffodil begin pointing excitedly as Warrior came into
view. The two trucks were sitting beside three wreckers that could only
be of Earth manufacture. After a bit of looking I was able to finally
recognize Bigfoot and Crunch before Prairie Dog and Sunrise jumped out to
meet us.
Suddenly there were little flying drone cameras everywhere as the girl
we'd learned was Karen, Sunrises new wife stepped out to make her
documentary of our arrival.
"Karen Tomahawk reporting live from Omega, as the trucks of the first
Earth convoy finally arrives here. You can see that it's grown in size
from the original thirty six trucks that left Earth, to now include two
Terrellian rigs and two of the Super Luxurious Motor Couches."
"As you know the three Academies located on earth are being relocated.
And here comes the couple that will head up two of those new Academies,"
her camera's zeroed in on both Donnie and Malissa Pierce.
"Excuse me Karen, the Academies are not being totally relocated. We are
simply opening new campuses to allow a more open enrollment for students
who were previously unable to attend the ones located on Earth," Malissa
Pierce stated.
"Thank you," said Karen. "End broadcast."
I saw her the instant she saw my little brother and sister inlaw. Prairie
rushed across the lot, throwing herself into their arms and they welcomed
her enthusiastically.
Several Terrellian's advanced toward the two obvious Terrellian rigs in
our group as the drivers descended to the ground. Litta looked around
worried now. But Leola as well as Marline and Dax were there with her
when they reached the group.
They looked around as if trying to determine which nearby male was
responsible for Litta.
"Where is the owner of this truck?" they demanded.
"It is my truck free and clear." She displayed the ownership documents
that she had received from Otru bearing the seal of the Intergalactic
Court.
"You are an Unmarried Female, and there are no Males in your truck, that
ownership is not legal," said one who looked like some sort of Government
official.
"It is Legal, we just need to pay the taxes on it," she said half
cowering.
Stepping forward the beast of a man snatched the driver's key from her
hand. But before he could turn he found several hands closing on his
shoulders like vices.
It was Old Elk who leaned in and spoke into his ear. "I suggest you
return what doesn't belong to you before you get hurt, along with an
apology."
Gritting his teeth against the pain in his shoulders he asked, "And who
would you be?"
"One of her Elders, she and her ladies have been adopted by the People.
They are part of our joint Tribal Journey, our children if you will."
"Yes we are waiting to see which Tribe they will become a part of," added
Tim.
"And the other truck?" he managed to get out.
"Belongs to my Wife," Dax said with pride.
His hand shaking now he extended the Drivers key back to Litta.
The fingers dug into his shoulder again. "I'm sorry, I misunderstood."
They let him go and he retreated quickly along with the others who had
come with him. When they were gone Litta said, "Thank you for your help.
We better get set up some place so we can start earning the credits to
pay for the ownership transfer and the taxes."
But mother Fox reached out to gently cup her chin in the palm of her
hand. "No daughter, you do not need to worry about paying the fees and
such."
"Daughter?"
"You are children of the Tribes now. Did you not realize that, when we
stood up for you on New Haven?" asked Fox.
"But, but we're," Mother Rain pressed her fingers to the girls lips.
"Shhh, you are promiscuous, in search of the right Brave to settle down
with. It is openly accepted among your new people."
"But which tribe do we belong to?" Litta asked.
Swallow said, "Since I was the first to speak for you that makes you my
daughter. As for the others it is up to them and the others around us to
decide who wishes to claim them as a daughter or wife when the time
comes."
Litta looked on the verge of tears, soon there were more women from the
tribes stepping forward to the other ten girls. Offers were being made to
take them in as daughters or second or even third wives.
Tim, BJ, Jill and I began leading our little family toward the huge
building we recognized from the news broadcast. Everyone was anxious to
find out how they would go about registering as Citizens of the Galaxy. I
was soon joined by my two sisters and their families, but we were
interrupted before we could cross the busy street.
"Could someone tell me where to find Colonel Zimmer?" we turned toward
the speaker to see the double set of swords. She was flanked by three
young girls, also wearing swords.
"Destiny?" began Erika seeing her friend.
With a wave of her hand the Cheetah girl said, "Go ahead students, we are
among friends." The three girls carefully stepped forward to begin
chatting with Erika Pierce.
"Stephanie Wolfe, I presume," my sister Stephanie said.
"Yes Colonel, I was told that you could introduce me to our other sisters
as well," she smiled. "And here you all are." She began shifting to her
human form.
She was barely older than Rachel, but she was wearing a double set of the
deadly swords. Two standing out above her shoulders, another two jutting
out downward at her hips. I noticed that Destiny carried two standing out
above each shoulder.
"Hi, I'm Malissa, this is Missy, and the Colonel," I introduced everyone.
"I'm Stephanie Wolfe, but most of the people call me Steph," she said. "I
didn't believe them when they said we could all be identical sisters."
"I never dreamed I'd get to meet you in person," I told her.
"Why not Malissa, we will be sharing a planet together." She looked at me
and Donnie, "Our Academies are to be where they can support each other,
and my followers can branch out from there," she said.
"So there will be four Academies there?" Malissa was intrigued. "And what
may I ask will be your Curriculum?"
Dead silence fell as everyone turned to hear.
"I will be teaching the ways of Musashi," she smiled.
My oldest sister, the Colonel surprised me then with her response. "The
ultimate goal of all Martial Arts is in becoming so efficient that one
does not need to use them." she made a little bow of respect.
"You two understand each other?" I was surprised.
Steph produced a copy of the book handing it to me. I suddenly remembered
having intended to read it after seeing not just a copy in Daddy's study,
but one in both Donnie's office and one in Erika's room.
"Destiny, what is the first rule of Martial Arts?"
"Think of what is right and true," she answered.
"Candy?"
"Practice and cultivate the science."
"Rhonda?"
"Become acquainted with all of the arts."
"Miss Pierce?"
"Know the principals of the crafts," answered Erika.
"Mr Pierce?" she cocked her head slightly as if waiting.
"Understand the harm and benefit in everything," Donnie smiled at her.
"Learn to see everything accurately." Said Tim Wyoming
"Become aware of what is not obvious." Stated Old Elk
"Be careful even in small matters." Chimed in Danny
"Do nothing that is of no value," finished Sophie with a grin. "Hey I'm a
book worm, and it applies to every profession. You just have to know how
to adapt it."
I suddenly realized that I had been somewhat practicing those principals
all my life.
"That is why I chose you child," Miss Clara said from behind me. Then I
remembered my freshman year. Literary Arts, we'd been given excerpts from
a book to study and do a report on the concepts the writer had been
trying to get across. But we had no idea what book they had come from.
Each class assignment was a different section in random order so that
none of us were studying the same section at the same time. Now I knew
where one of Donnie and Erika's favorite quotes had come from.
Giggling a finally said, "Know the ways of all professions."
"Yes you see, even in teaching young ladies to be proper young ladies it
has its purpose," she said. "Do you not teach Tai Chi?"
"Yes but it is considered an art form, a very useful one now that I think
of it."
"In the Orient it is taught to everyone. But few continue to competition
levels. Did you know that it was the only approved Martial art for royal
women? Probably why it was disregarded as one of the Martial arts, the
same as the Highlands Sabre Drills of Scotland."
We chatted for a while getting to know her as we made our way toward the
bank. The crowd was getting thicker behind us as my little family as well
as friends all began moving toward those steps. Steps that now held
persons waiting.
"Malissa's Academy over here," called out a pretty young girl with bright
pink hair and about fifty facial piercings. I split off leading my group
as Donnie split off leading his towards a rather handsome young man in a
military style uniform.
There were lines designated Star Drivers, and another designated Native
American Tribes. I noticed that the Kittens had all split off and been
ushered through a side entrance.
"Ma'am," May and Angela stood close by. Mika Long Step and China Sampson
and her girls were with them.
"Yes, you have questions?" interrupted the girl directing the line.
"They actually fit into more than one group," I said. "As myself and my
children."
"Oh no problem, we will cross register everyone. Right now we just need
to get everyone registered and this seemed the easiest way not to bog
down any particular line." She directed me to a computer screen. Just
scan your Identifications, school, driver's license, etcetera, then
choose any other appropriate groups you should be included in.
I scanned my school ID then my Driver's License. I heard a ping, and then
the little machine began going haywire, flashing red lights and making
chirps and gibberish noises.
A tall man whom I now recognized as being Draconian rushed over to me.
"Malissa Pierce, oh what an honor to meet you." he took something from
the machine and handed it to me. "Congratulations my dear. You are one of
perhaps only four dozen in the civilized universe to be authorized one of
these licenses." I looked at it and it read 'Inter-Galactic Internal
Combustion Vehicle Operator License.'
"That allows you to operate your wonderful, what is the term, Muscle
Cars? Yes Muscle Cars, using Gasoline Engines," his smile was both warm
and welcoming.
"Are you with the Galactic Vehicle registration services?" I finally
asked him.
"Oh, sorry." He held my hand in his and placed a soft kiss on the backs
of my fingers. "Drew Correll, my daughter Lori will be transferring to
your Academy."
Now I was stunned, this was one of the most powerful people on this
planet. "I ummm, I wasn't aware that it was legal to burn gasoline in an
engine," I said.
"They are new, yours is the first to be issued actually. And I am hoping
that your Daughter and her friends at Fender Skirts will present their
new Carbureted Injector Engine for patent soon." He smiled warmly at
Rachel who blushed in shock. It was the first I'd heard about it and I
wondered if Donnie or Sophie had heard yet.
I stood by and watched as everyone was processed through in record time.
Everyone's accounts had been converted to Galactic Credits, and they were
issued new account cards. Even the new Academy ID cards were something. I
remember looking at my girls cards across the top it read "Miss Malissa's
Academy for Exceptional young Ladies."
We were given directions to various shopping centers and sights to see
while we were there. We saw several different lanes on the sidewalks and
I asked Nurie, our guide what they were for.
"Those are so people do not get run over," she explained as a young man
on what looked like a skateboard from the Back to the Future movie sped
past us. He turned his head to watch Rachel as he went by and suddenly he
was rolling across the Blue grass as the three others behind him ran into
him.
"Pay no attention to them, they are how do you say, Hoolanannies?"
"Hooligans," giggled Rachel. They lay there watching as we passed on our
way to a shopping mall.
Omega City was huge, and spectacular. We saw many different races, some
even wearing breathers to allow them to breathe the near Earth normal
atmosphere.
We found a store called the 'Flashy Maiden', and as we stepped inside it
was like any young girls boutique on Earth. They even had uniforms for
Clara's Academy. Now I knew where those who had come there had gotten
their school uniforms.
I saw Lori and Miss Tyler and her kittens going into another place. Above
the door was a sign declaring it to be the 'Kitten's Parade'.
"That is a night club that is only open to Cougars and their Kittens," I
was informed. "You should caution all your students not to enter there if
they do not wish to belong to a Cougar."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Saffrella Correll led Grace and me to a special club in the mall. "I
believe your Kitten's will enjoy it here. It is a sister club to the
Kitten's Den," she said.
At the door we were met by an older lady who gushed, "Saffrella, is it
true? There are many Earth Kittens here?"
"Weejie, May I present Miss Erika Tyler and her Kittens. And this is
Grace, and her Kitten Danielle."
As Weejie took hold of my hand I saw her hair change shade and grow
longer, then the strands wrapped gently around my hand. "Welcome to the
Parade. It is an honor to meet you after hearing so many wonderful things
about you."
"Oh I wasn't aware I was known outside of my home town," I answered. "But
thank you."
"Please, would you consider allowing your Kittens to put on a wonderful
show with the horses like they did on Saturn? I would charge a cover fee
to help you pay your expenses of course."
At mention of putting on a show I could feel my kittens' excitement. They
were anxious to show what the horses could do.
I heard the sound of hooves on the marbled floor and looked up as a
Centaur followed by a younger one on a leash stepped out of the place.
"Earth horses? I have no wish to see distant kin forced to perform like
trained dogs." Her glare of disapproval met my own glare.
"My horses perform because they enjoy it, not because they have been
forced to," I spat back at her. "Unlike other horses, they have never had
their spirit broken. They are ridden by my Kittens because they choose to
be."
"Then you will not mind my asking them," she said. "Come Bradette, your
Mother wishes to know that you are well."
"Please forgive Crystal, she had a bad experience with an Earthling
once."
"Excuse me," I said. "Crystal, might I invite you to come visit my horses
this evening." She snorted and tossed her head in acceptance.
"Will you guarantee our safety while we are there?"
"If she won't I will," said a new comer I'd never seen. She was much
larger than any of her species I'd yet to encounter. She was flanked by
six more of her kind.
"Astrid, your majesty, forgive me." Crystal dipped her foreleg in a
curtsey. I found myself doing the same as did everyone else.
"Think nothing of it Crystal, I see that young Bradette is adjusting
nicely to her situation. Perhaps you two would like to compare cultures
with Miss Tyler and her Kittens. Especially Trans-Kitten Samantha who
grew up on an equine ranch."
"M, Ma'am?" began Bradette.
Crystal leaned forward a bit her nose sniffing the air before
straightening back up. "They smell of equine sweat, but there is no fear
in that sweat. Come we will talk over a drink."
And just like that it seemed that the ice was broken between us. I
discovered that Astrid was granted entrance because of her status, and
she regularly checked in to be sure that all kittens were treated
correctly.

At one point the leaders of the convoys as well as the schools were all
pulled together to be shown a 3D map of the growing community areas on
Iridani Five. The Kitten Academy was designated with a KA, Malissa's was
MAG, and Donnie's was IMA. There was a large trucking terminal that was
designated Wyoming/Ute IGT. A truck stop that was named Brightfeather's
that was co-located with the Tomahawk Towing and Recovery. In the midst
of all was designated as the I5 local community. Of course any who wished
could build homes wherever they wished. There was even a separate
building that was simply named, 'The Temple of the Way.' notes in the
margins said it would be constructed by the followers of the way upon
arrival.
Looking at the school lay outs Malissa spotted a door at the back of what
would be the walk in closet of her personal quarters. There was another
in Donnie's. "What's this door go to here?" she asked. "It just says DD
on the other side.
"Yeah there's one in our walk in closet at home too," commented Sophie.
"Oh, those are the Dimension Doorways." Giggled Lola Correll. "You just
say which destination you wish to go too then open the door and you're
there."
"Yes those are locked though so there are only three destinations and no
one else can open them from anywhere else," stated Drew Correll.
"So that's how they did it," Malissa giggled. "And we all felt sorry for
them not being able to get together very often."
"What's this area here marked Driving Range?" asked Missy as she pulled
up a closer view. "Oh, oh wow, look Tim it's almost like the Canyon."
"Yes and I wonder where the school will be." he commented.
"School?"
"Yes Love, we still have children who promised us they would finish their
educations," he reminded me. I heard several children groan, the two most
prominent being Red and Running Water.
"Momma, I'm doing mine by correspondence," assured Darlene holding up all
of her registration forms.
"Yes and carrying a straight 'A' average as well as helping your sister
wife and daughters."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"Excuse me can I ask a question?" it was Paula Brightfeather.
"Go right ahead dear," Saffrella said. She had been helping her husband
and second wife explain things to the ones who had questions.
"This truck stop, it says Brightfeather's," she began.
"Yes it will be the home truck stop for your family. It is being built to
design specs from her Majesty Leila. But it is your family that will be
allowed to operate it. Yes we know that you have your trucks, but we also
know that you wish to have a place of your own."
"Paula," Dax got her attention. "Dale and I wanted to know if we could
buy Eagle from you, so we can make the supply runs with Leola."
"No you may not buy Eagle," she said. "You can drive him, but I want
Carline and Marline to remain at the truck stop at least until their
children are old enough."
"I figure we can make one more run home before they have to stop
traveling," Dale said.
"Then you'll need to figure out where we're going to park Night Flyer
until this one is born," purred Leola gently rubbing her tummy.
"Home Daddy?" asked Moss.
"Yes you're going to get to meet your new Grandparents and see where
Mommy and Daddy grew up, but it's a long way from here," Dale said.
"Will Frozen get to come too Daddy?" she asked.
"She certainly will," answered Carline. "She's part of our family, and
she is your protector."
Moss hugged her new parents tightly. Then she turned and kissed Carline's
tummy, "I can't wait to meet you little brother. You're going to have two
new cousins too."
"If you're going back to earth you are going to need a couple of plows
along," advised Tim. "At least to get you from the Pole down into
Canada."
"We have to get Mom back home before the baby's born," reminded Prairie
dog.
"Then I guess you and Red are the plow drivers," he smiled. "Where is he
by the way?"
Prairie and Water giggled sheepishly. "He's a bit ummm, tied up at the
moment." They both burst into giggles and Sunrise just rolled his eyes as
he hugged Karen to him even closer.
If anyone took note of the age difference between them, nothing was said.
Everyone was happy for them as a couple and knew there was real love
there.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Malissa and Pam were busy talking about the school and she asked her if
she was going to go back home.
"You know what? I doubt I can ever feel like I belong there anymore.
Everything I've seen since this crazy journey began has showed me that I
need to find my own way. Well my own way with Jay that is."
"What about mother and," she was cut off.
"I don't care anymore. They haven't even so much as called me since I
started talking with you again." she paused, "How crazy is that?"
The two sisters hugged each other, then Pam raised her eyes toward the
girls. Rachel Sherry and several others together with the Terrellian
sisters Linessa and Tarra were heading towards the trucks carrying
suspiciously wrapped packages.
"Rachel, what do you have there?" Malissa called to her.
"Oh Momma you wouldn't believe it but they actually have a store where we
could find everything." Rachel said.
"Everything for what?" asked Malissa.
"We are going to teach them to use Vershang' and they are going to teach
us Tai Chi," smiled Tarra the younger of the two.
Looking at Sherry carrying her own wrapped blade she cocked her head with
a raised eye brow. "And just how do you plan to learn young lady?"
Diallana and Moira stepped forward, "Girls you should go put those away.
Remember to clean the Jelly off them before you do. We will inspect them
before class."
"Yes Ma'am," echoed the girls. And then Malissa realized it wasn't just
her girls and the Terrellian sisters. There had been four of the
Chopstick squad that had not come on the journey. Now they had been
replaced by the Terrellian sisters and the Lycan twins who were also
carrying Tai Chi blades.
"Malissa," started Diallana.
"You wish to become instructors," Malissa smiled warmly. "Welcome aboard.
How are you with younger children?"
"Oh we would love to teach Sherry as well," said Moira.
"I was thinking of Tatty Demure actually," answered Malissa.
"Demure? As in Demure Inter-galactic Transport?" I could see Diallana's
eyes grow rounder than normal.
"Yes, Racine Demure is delivering the buildings and getting everything
set up on Iridani. Do you know her?"
"She is a," they said something that sounded important. "Champion in
Vershang Dueling," finished Moira.
"They teach that at the Kitten Academy?" I asked.
"Oh heavens no. she became a champion after she graduated. After she
inherited her Cougar Mothers Fleet. You met her brother in law, Otru."
I looked puzzled, the only Otru I had met was the Commander of the Police
forces aboard the truck, 'Reaper'.
"Her husband Mornik was the leading champion when she inherited the
fleet. She had to choose a husband or forfeit the inheritance. She chose
three to battle it out for her hand, and then when it became a three way
draw she began eliminating them with her own Vershang skills."
"What do you mean, eliminating them?"
"She was in heat, she insisted that only a blooded warrior be named
champion. The other two backed out after she drew blood, but Mornik." She
caught her breath, "He pressed on and it looked more like a dance than a
battle. I'm sure they still have it archived somewhere." Diallana said.
"Why isn't the Vershang listed among the weapons used by the Terrellian
Police force?"
"Because it is only taught to Women, Royalty and to Royal Guards," the
corners of her mouth curled upwards. "The other Prince's didn't know that
she had learned it so well. She used to practice with it every day in her
studio while she was doing her ballet. I doubt that young Tatty will need
much in the way of teaching."
Just then Donnie and Sophie joined us.
"Did you hear about the Competitions?" Sophie was excited.
"What competitions?"
"The annual fencing and something called a Vershang. They're held each
year on Terrellia or Lyconia, but this year it's Lyconia's turn to host,"
Donnie said. "I talked with that Correll guy and he said we could enter
our teams, and if you want you could have the Chopsticks put on a show."
"Momma, can I call Tatty and find out the bestest way to get this gunk
off my Vershang?" asked Sherry.
Donnie's eyes about bugged out seeing it up close for the first time. "Is
that?"
"Yes that is a juvenile's Vershang," confirmed Diallana. Then she and
Moira began instructing her in how to clean it. Apparently it was a good
thing that we had so much Olive Oil in the kitchen.
"Aunt Moira, did I choose a good one?" Sherry asked.
"Malissa, do you know how much that had to cost, all that gold wire?"
Sophie was shocked.
"You mean that red wire? I didn't see any gold," I said.
"Malissa, pure gold wire has a reddish color to it," confirmed Donnie.
There were five double wide hand grips along the back of the blade, each
wrapped in leather held in place by double twist wire to strengthen the
grip.
"It is not pure gold," assured Moira. "That is too fragile it is
strengthened with iron and tinted."
"Only Championship Vershang' are wound with pure gold as well as pure
silver," commented Diallana. "It will be interesting to see the
modifications they make to their competition blades."
"Daddy?" Tiffany was looking up at Donnie holding his hand now, Erika
right behind her. I reached out with my finger to touch her lips before
she could say the magic words.
"I'll talk to Daddy about it tonight, but you should go pay attention to
your sisters," she squealed and threw her arms around my neck hugging me.
I looked around for Denise but didn't see her.
"They are over watching the horse show," stated Sophie. "Something about
getting to meet Centaurs."
We grabbed a quick snack, and headed for the show ring that had been set
up.
Not surprisingly we ran into Darlene, TooTall and Sugar who were teaching
Talia to ride. Running in the ring with her were several Centaur
children, and the girl Moss was being taught to ride as well.
It all seemed so magical, seeing all of these mythical creatures alive
and in the flesh. I watched a young woman with a Centaur as they cuddled
across from me. 'I wonder how they go about sex,' I blushed at my own
thoughts.
The sound of hooves clopping behind me pulled me out of my thoughts as
someone spoke. "Excuse me, Are you Malissa? The headmistress of Malissa's
Academy?"
I turned to see a youngish very pretty redheaded Centaur with a Sorel
body.
"Yes," I extended my hand in friendship. "You have a question about the
school?"
She looked around as if being sure there was no one else nearby to
overhear.
"Could we talk more privately, please?"
"Sophie, watch the girls. I'll be back in a few minutes," I said.
"Thank you, my name is Lilly. I hope you don't mind my asking to talk
privately," she said as we stepped around one of the nearby trucks.
"Not at all, I like answering questions and helping people to understand
about the school."
A sudden thunder of hooves crashing around the corner startled us both,
and she almost gasped in shock. But the two young Centaur girls planted
their hooves and slid to a stop in front of us.
"Have you asked her Mother?" "Will she accept us?" they spoke excitedly
one after the other.
"Flora, Fauna, you interrupted us," Lilly chastised the two. "I'm sorry
they just get so rambunctious," she apologized. The soft clop of more
hooves could be heard and we turned to see two more young Centaur women
coming toward us.
"Lilly, what did she say?"
"Bet, I haven't had a chance to ask yet," responded Lilly. "Malissa this
is Bet and Shallow. We umm, we were wondering if ummm,"
"Can we come to your school?" the two girls asked at the same time.
"All pretty little girls are welcome at my school so long as they behave
like proper young ladies," I answered.
Their giggles of delight sounded like excited nickering of young fouls,
as they pranced and tossed their heads.
"Lilly, Myrella is here, we need to be careful," warned Bet.
"Malissa, Child you should invite your young friends to the diner. I
doubt the Witch will come looking for them there," said Grandma Night
Bird as she opened the door beside us. "You two go gather your friends
now we'll be inside," she said to the two girls who could only be twins.
I led the way up the ramp into Eagle's trailer and the place fell silent
for just a moment as they followed me inside. There was a strange looking
girl already sitting at one of the tables.
"Lilly, you came," she jumped up and they hugged each other. "Where are
the children?"
"On their way but we still need to talk things through." The woman said
cautiously.
"I gather it is not going to be very popular with your community for
Centaur girls to attend my school," I said.
"I'm Esther by the way. But I think we should tell you we're what they
consider, Outcasts. We have no husbands," stated the human looking young
woman. "We have children but no real homes, we are mostly servants."
A sudden crash of hooves sounded as a group of Centaur girls rushed
through the doors. One very small one ran over to Esther. "Mommy, I'm
scared."
"Shhh, it's going to be alright little one," Rain said passing out
treats.
"The original school was founded on taking in those young girls who were
not accepted by society," I began. "And I intend to keep that tradition
going. Most worked in the kitchens and such to earn a living on top of
their education. And quite a few stayed to become teachers and Dorm
Mothers.
"Dorm Mothers?"
"Yes adults living in the Dorms to watch over the girls under their care.
Teaching them how to respect each other and appreciate what everyone has
to offer, and living together as sisters."
I saw two more come into the diner, another human girl between them
looking terrified. Then I realized she was pregnant, and being carried.
At closer look I realized she was at least half Lycan.
"She has begun labor," one of the two with her said.
"Dr Tsing, we need you quickly." Marline called out as she cleared out a
booth near a quiet corner.
There were now even more very young Centaur girls than could possibly
belong to those women present. Then I noticed several were wearing
collars. But they looked wrong, these were rough, cruel looking collars,
devoid of any decoration. Suddenly Mistress Gwendolyn was there.
"What kind of Kitten collars are those?" someone asked.
"Those have to come off now, they are Centaur Slave Collars. Someone help
me please. And we'll need to get them into a safe place until we leave
here." she was cutting the collar off the pregnant girl even as Dr Tsing
began his examination.
"Sweetie, what is your name?" he asked gently.
"Harp, her name is Harp," provided Lilly.
"Harp, your foal is breached. We are going to have to perform a 'C'
section." "Myami, have them move our truck closer so we can get her to
our clinic."
He began asking questions about when her water had broken, how long
between contractions. If anyone had any experience with Half Centaur
births.
No one seemed to notice as the trucks shifted around. Soon there was a
pile of the collars on a table near the door. As we waited for word from
Dr Tsing, Paula and her sisters began slathering Honey over welts. I
looked up to see my girls now looking wide eyed at those around them.
"Why Momma? How could they do this to their own kind?" asked Rachel.
"Almost every society on earth has practiced it in one form or another,"
I told her.
"Not the Indians," she said defiantly.
"Rachel Pierce, my Great, Great Grandma Nada was a captive of the Sioux
when she was very young. She eventually married into the tribe. But there
were others who didn't. They were slaves, even if they were treated with
kindness. If they didn't work, they didn't eat."
"Most of the black slaves of the southern states were sold into slavery
by neighboring tribesmen. Is it right? No. but you have to understand,
this is another culture. But I am sure that somewhere out there in the
stars there are other races that are far worse. Otherwise I am sure the
governments here wouldn't tolerate it."
By midnight the other Centaurs outside had left except for one. When she
was sure that none of her clan remained she trotted over to Eagle, and
knocked on the door.
"Yes may I help you?" asked Paula.
"My name is Fire, I have come to speak with Lilly. I know she is here."
"Just a minute I'll ask if anyone knows her," Paula said.
"Is that Fire?" asked Lilly behind her.
"Yes."
"I'll speak with her."
Lilly stepped to the doorway. "Thank you, all who wished to leave are
here."
"And Harp? She is safe? My grandchild will be cared for?"
"Your grandson was born twenty minutes ago. But if she hadn't gotten here
they would have both been lost."
"Do the others know of our bargain?"
"No. If they had the rest of the clan would not have come close enough
and you would be in danger."
"I wish, I wish my Son would become a better leader. But Crystal has him
wrapped around her hoof. I'm afraid she will be the clans Mistress by
morning."
"Then don't return, stay here with us." begged Lilly.
"I am not without my own protections child. They will never harm a Spirit
Woman. But I will not be welcomed home."
"At least come inside and bless your grandchild. You should see him at
least once." It was Rain, the Crow Spirit Woman. I saw the others as they
began moving to join her in welcoming Fire.
Those who had once been slaves now looked very frightened. Afraid they
were about to be dragged back to the clan. But as Fire moved among them
her tears began to roll slowly down her cheeks. Reaching out she caressed
Esther's cheek, "You are all free now child. The Clan will not come for
you."
They sat and talked long into the early hours of the morning and then
someone rushed in to tell them that were Centaurs at the edge of the
Convoy. "I will go talk with them," offered Fire.
"We will go with you," said Night Bird, Rain and Fox who stood up to go
through the doorway.
The first thing they saw was that all the gathered Centaurs were women of
varying age from young adult to very old. One with braids and feathers in
her hair, carrying a long staff that trailed feathers on leather thongs
stepped forward.
"Fire is it true? You have consorted with outsiders?"
There was a growing crowd of curiosity seekers growing near the roadway.
"Great One, I only seek to protect those of my Clan in need of
protection," Fire said. "There was no need to gather the Spirit Women of
the other Clans."
"I see you are with the Spirit Women of these people. Those whom we were
gathering to consult before Crystal told us of your betrayal."
"Mistress Sidestep, I have only taken measures to protect those in need
of protecting in the only course left open to me."
"Pardon me, Should we be displaying the business of Spirit Women for the
curious and the sight seers?" Night Bird asked.
"Sidestep?" someone began to ask a question.
"You will be free to come and go as you please," assured Fox now. "But
those who wish to stay will be protected I assure you."
"Yes you should come and see for yourself the evidence of why Fire took
the measures that she did," added Rain.
That the Centaurs among those who had just sought refuge were frightened
now, was plain as the Centaur Spirit Women moved among them. But there
was nothing but love and understanding as they passed through under the
watchful eyes of the gathered Warriors of the Tribes.
Sidestep finally tossed her head, her staff rapping on the floor panels
for attention. "Fire you will go with these people to teach the
traditions and histories. Those of your Clan who are here are not counted
among your former Clan. Crystal will discover by nightfall that her
little Clan is shunned. Lead your Clan out into the universe to a new
home Fire. We will hold your council seat open at the yearly gathering."
Each of the other Spirit Women strode past her offering a blessing on her
new Clan before leaving. She couldn't believe it though, the only males
in her new Clan were nowhere near old enough to choose a mate.
"Trust me sister, they will come to you," she was told.
Paula had made herself a list of things she wanted from the open air
market. From what she'd learned there was a lot of Earth similar produce
there, so now she and her girls were just beginning to pick their way
through the different stands and mobile shops.
"Momma," Oshiwa got her attention. "He's following us again. How did he
get here from New Haven?" she asked of the Wolf Furry known as a Lycan.
Seeing the young girl pointing toward him Trader lowered his head. He was
very self-conscious of the disfiguring scar that marred his once handsome
face. He'd first spotted the woman before the convoy had left the Saturn
Interchange, and his life of drunken despair had ended when he found out
that she was unwed.
At first he'd almost gone crazy as sight of her had dredged up the pain
and anguish for Petra and their daughter. He'd cursed the gods for
allowing him to survive while taking them away. He'd felt he had nothing
to live for any longer. And then this ravishing beauty who could be her
twin had stepped off the truck in front of him as he stumbled drunkenly
toward his shuttle thankful that the breather mask had hidden the hideous
scars.
He had to know everything about her and her people. His nightmares slowly
began to change to dreams over time as he followed the convoys. Then on
new Haven he'd spotted her as she was adopting the other girls. But she
had no husband, and so he had begun to ask those closer to her. He slowly
got closer and closer watching everything she did outside the truck.
Now though as she was wandering the market with her daughters he thought
he detected something about her. then when someone reached out to touch
the youngest of the girls she had whirled to face him, her body shifting
forms as she changed into a raven haired Wolf to confront the person.
Trader's heart began to pound as the tears ran unbidden down the good
side of his face. The side not frozen with scar tissue from the flames.
She was a shifter as was his Petra. Now he began to wonder why he had
been there in that place to see her the first time. But why he had been
drawn to follow her was simple, he had loved her from the first moment he
saw her.
"Oshiwa, you should go and ask your Uncle Dax or dale to come help carry
everything. Tell them we will need the pickup," Paula said.
As the girl turned to race through the crowd he finally spoke for the
first time. "Excuse me, I couldn't help hearing that you need
transportation. I mean someone to carry your purchases to the trucks for
you," he stumbled trying to figure out how to get her to let him help.
"Oshiwa, hold up." she turned back to him, "You have a truck that could
haul all of this?"
"A truck no, but I have a small shuttle. I would be more than happy to
help you Miss Brightfeather," he said.
"And you are?"
"Ohh, sorry I am called Trader," he answered seeing her smile.
"How can I know if I can trust you if you will not look directly at me
Trader?"
The question startled him and he suddenly looked right at her in alarm.
He saw the look in her eyes as she saw his face, heard the gasps from the
girls.
"Sorry," he said and started to turn away.
"Trader, I thought you wanted to help?"
"I, you aren't frightened by my scars?"
"They show your character, and the fact that you have a kind heart to
offer your services to someone you hardly know. And they add to your
features to give you an extra bit of rugged handsomeness," she blushed at
the last.
"Please wait here I will bring my little shuttle," he hurried off through
the crowd.
"Momma?" asked her girls.
"He is very nice, and kind. And he was ready to jump in to defend you. I
think we can trust him. Besides everyone will know who he is if anything
should happen," she explained.
It only took a few minutes to load everything, and then they were on
their way back to the convoy riding in his shuttle. As she settled into
the seat next to his she noticed the picture on the control panel but
said nothing.
Dax and Dale helped unload the shuttle, and then he was invited in to eat
since he refused any payment for his help.
They had just finished eating when Sienna asked, "Why do you have a
picture of my Momma?"
"Sienna," gasped Oshiwa.
"That's not Momma," Sequin stated. "She just looks like Momma." true the
girls had seen her in her wolf form, but only briefly
"Trader are you married? Is that why you've been following our Momma
around? She reminds you of your wife?" asked Oshiwa.
It was like a damn had broken inside him as he laid his head in his hands
and began to weep great bone wracking sobs of anguish.
Hearing it only drew the girls' closers to him, he was hurting inside.
The other patrons of the diner were drawn as well to the table. Paula
pushed her way through the rest to kneel beside him.
"Trader you're ok here," she said not knowing why she just wrapped her
arms around him.
"P, Petra, oh gods," he fell into deeper sobs.
"Who's hurt?" Dax charged into the group.
The stranger let himself be held by Paula who continued to kneel there
beside him.
"It's ok Trader, you're safe here. Whatever it is we will understand."
Paula told him.
Someone set a shot of Cactus Whiskey down in front of him, but he pushed
it away. "No, I, I can't. That doesn't help." He slowly regained his
composure. "I'm sorry, so sorry. I, I should leave," he tried to get up
but all his strength was gone."
"Trader, you helped us. Now let us help you. You are in no condition to
go anywhere." She helped him stand up, and supported him as she guided
him toward the front of the diner.
When she eased him onto the bed he lay back exhausted, wrung out from his
own release of years of pent up grief. He barely registered as she took
off his boots before pulling a blanket over him. "Rest, get some sleep
and we'll talk after you wake up," she said. But he was already asleep.
Everyone had a hundred questions. "I don't know," she answered. "But I am
not going to let you interrogate him. Whatever it is, is in his past."
"Paula, Sienna says he has pictures of you and another little girl in his
shuttle," Carline told her.
"Why did he call you Petra?" asked Dax.
But it was Leola who supplied the answers. "I thought I remembered
hearing the two names before," she said. "It was four years ago. There
was a huge incident on Fullers Crossing." She'd pulled up the old report
on a computer. A group of families on vacation had been headed to the
planet to camp out in the wilderness. But a group of Road Bandits had
attacked out of nowhere. The only survivor had been the father of one
family. He'd been horribly disfigured in the fire as he tried to rescue
his wife Petra, and daughter Sheena from the fire after the bandits had
done their worst thinking all the men were dead. They just left the women
and children tied up and set the vehicles on fire so there wouldn't be
any witnesses.
Paula saw the age of the daughter and realized that she would be about
Oshiwa's age now if she'd lived.
No one saw Paula the rest of that day as she sat in her room watching,
waiting for him to wake up. She'd read the rest of the report herself,
and knew what he'd done when he was released from the hospital. She
wanted him to know that she understood, she hadn't realized that she'd
shifted. It had been a while since her inner wolf had come out unbidden.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
While Paula sat watching over Trader the rest of the convoy had a meeting
about who would provide transportation for the Centaurs.
"Big Beast has an empty trailer," offered Red. "Whatever I was hauling
has been turned over to the Galactic Authorities here. "We can
reconfigure however they need for their comfort."
"Casanova's the same," put in Tom Cat and Zoey.
The matter was quickly settled and the Centaurs were getting settled in
as the interior of the two trailers began adjusting for their comfort.
I stood with Tim watching as Crunch followed by Sweetie Pie pulled in
from their latest contract of clearing wreckage from one of the
connecting roadways after an accident. Apparently anything breaking down
that could not be removed from a major highway was automatically recycled
by the Road Bugs whenever they passed through. An interest had sprang up
in the services of the three wreckers when they began pitching in to
clear out accident scenes. People here had never seen an on call wrecker
before.
As the two pulled up beside Bigfoot to shut down there was suddenly
flashing lights and two road bugs came to a silent sudden stop on the
highway backing up until they were even with the three trucks.
"Mom, sorry we gotta go," Prairie kissed my cheek and Barking Squirrel's
cheek then shot off across the lot to climb quickly up into her truck.
I climbed up into Beauty as they were pulling out between the two Road
Bugs. "What's going on?" I asked.
"Big accident about twenty vehicles blocking a portal entrance on Delphi
Nine."
"How the hell are you going to get there in time to help?" Tim asked.
"Umm, we have been given something called Road Bug clearance. Free access
to their Phase Portals just like the Law Enforcement Vehicles," answered
Sunrise.
"Yeah just like the Bugs we can jump to any open portal we need to but
you have to have their access to get into one of their terminals,"
commented Jay.
"What about the cars?" I asked Tim, reminding him that Sweetie Pie still
had the two muscle cars on the back deck.
"They are Support vehicles, to help with traffic control and such,"
Squirrel explained stepping up into the cab. "Karen and that girl Pam
drive them and use them to direct and warn traffic if there aren't any
planetary police available."
Then we saw the four Academy five ton wreckers following another Road Bug
with four of the hard top Hummers following. Wow, I guess the Road Bugs
were calling in everyone available which meant it must be a huge
accident.

Trader began to moan in his sleep. Not a good moan either, and Paula was
there the minute she heard it, it was a pain filled moan of anguish.
He began to thrash, his muscles jerking violently and she was afraid he
might hurt himself. "Eagle, sound proof us please," she climbed onto the
bed wrapping her arms around him.
"Shhhh, shhhh, you're safe Trader. You're here," she tried to sooth him.
"Noooooooooooooooooooooo, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh god nooooo," he moaned and
thrashed. Petra, Sheena!" his entire body jerked in spasms. "Let me go I
have to get them out," he jerked hard his body fighting against her
protective grip before going limp.
Now he was laying on his left side, his fire damaged right side exposed
to her view. She'd known his jaw was crooked, but now saw it wasn't just
from being broken before. The bare furless scar tissue left in the wake
of the burns pulled the lower jaw to that side out of alignment with the
rest of his face. Her heart began to break even more now. In his anguish
she had connected with his mind, seeing everthing.
His body was covered in sweat and she carefully began removing the dirty
clothes that had to be at least a week old if not more. His limpness let
her get his clothes off and as she lay next to him holding him she could
feel the next nightmare coming up through his subconscious.
His hands began to twitch, the right one that scarred with half the fur
permanently burned away clenched in a ball of rage around the pillow. It
took all her strength to hold his arms to keep him from fighting in his
sleep. She had to wrap her legs around his as he kicked out, all the
while she tried to sooth him, aware that her body was pressed hard to
his. When he finally began to relax a bit she became aware that his tail
was between her thighs, twitching wildly against her pussy. And she was
wet, somehow in her protecting him from hurting himself, she had become
aroused.
Then a shock born of pure lust and love she realized it was from the
images in his mind of his hunting them down, making them pay for what
they had done. He wasn't a warrior, trained and armed. He was a husband
and father seeking vengeance. But now he'd had nothing left, the last of
them were gone, there had been nothing left for him to do now.
His body relaxed more as images of her flashed in his mind. His decision
to follow her, to protect her. Images of first Oshiwa, then Sienna and
Sequin, and Glitter. His desire to be ever near her and her girls, his
anguish that he still loved his wife and daughter were keeping him from
getting too close.
The realization that he wasn't alone slowly dawned him as he slept. The
feel of the warm breasts pressed into his back. The soft yet strong
wolfen arms around him, the growing heat and moisture of the excited
female pressed tightly against the top of his tail at the base. He was on
the edge of panic as he came quickly out of his sleep.
"Ssssshhhhh Trader, I'm here," she said softly into his ear as her claws
softly grazed down his bare chest. She could feel her own lust rising to
the top. She'd not felt such a strong need in a long while, and she felt
his own desire as he began to slowly give over to her urging.
She carefully moved over him, her eyes locked on his as she reached back
to move her pantys to the side. His hands slid up her sides, up and under
her top to cup her medium size breasts. She had just a moment of fear
before lust took hold of her again, she'd never been with another Wolf
Shifter, let alone a Wolf Furry. Never felt a knot inside of her, but now
all her body wanted was that knot deep inside her, tying them together.
Slowly she rocked back on him feeling him slipping free of his sheath as
he entered her. Quickly she pulled her top over her head then leaned
forward to press her bare breasts into his face. Her hips rolled as she
pushed back more urgently coming to his knot.
Suddenly there was no more pretense to her desires, or his as she thrust
back as he thrust inward. The knot pushing into her all the way, the
momentary pain as it stretched her open before her muscles clamped down
around it. Her quiver as she thrust back harder feeling it swelling
inside her. Her building orgasm as he jerked and thrust up into her,
bouncing her against the base of his knot.
A surge of purest animal lust overcame her as she threw her head back,
howling in orgasm as her sex rippled, squeezing his knot until he too was
howling, and his seed pumping deep into her.
She slumped forward panting, wrapping her arms around his head as she
held his face between her breasts. Each throb of his knot inside her
spurting more of his seed as it slowly began to shrink.
She felt the withered knot as it slipped free, but still she held him
tightly. She felt his thoughts as he began to feel guilty.
"Stop, don't leave me. Please don't leave me Trader," she urged him.
"Stay with me, let me and my girls give you a reason to live again,
please!"
He rolled them over until she was on her side still clinging to him, and
in an instant he knew that she knew everything about his past. The
horrible things he'd done in his quest for vengeance. He saw in her eyes
that she loved him in spite of his past.
Pressing her nose to his she whispered, "I've taken you and made you
mine. Now it's your turn to take me and make me yours. I want to be your
Bitch, your wife, your future." She untangled herself from him feeling
his renewed arousal as she got to her knees and slowly lowered herself in
submission.
This time he was more, gentle as he began working himself up to it
wanting to be sure. When she whimpered in lust he bit down on the back of
her neck growling his own lust as he drove into her. His knot hammering
harder and harder until it was inside of her and she was squeezing it
tightly feeling it swell to four times its relaxed size.
Reaching up and curling her fingers into his hair she held him as they
both howled in orgasm.
They took their time as they showered, and then when she opened her door
she found her four sisters standing there. Though Eagle had soundproofed
her room against the nightmares, he had not soundproofed it against the
sounds of their lust.
"So?" Asked Zoey, a sly grin on her face.
"So what?" Paula asked in response.
"Is he staying?" Carline wanted to know.
"Did you rock his world as much as it sounded like?" from Babsie.
As Marline started to add her two cents Paula pressed her fingers to her
lips. "It is his decision to make. He knows how I feel, do not badger him
like nosey hens." She shooed her sisters away ahead of her out the door
of the main living area. Then turned to see her girls as they crowded in
around him when he stepped out of her room.
"You're staying aren't you?" Oshiwa asked, her big round eyes pleading
with him. He hesitated, "Don't make us say the magic words."
"Magic Words?"
"Please Daddy?" "Daddy Please?" "Yes please be our Daddy?"
"Girls, we haven't even discussed it yet," Paula said blushing.
He dropped to a knee and gathered them in his arms, then looked over the
tops of the two younger ones heads. "I've already followed you this far.
And I think you sealed the bargain already. So what else is there to
discuss?"
Oshiwa leaned forward and Paula heard her whisper something into his ear.
"It's custom among our people to take a new bride before those gathered
around, over your knee and spank her bare bottom. That way everyone will
know that she is yours."
"Girls, who is waiting on the tables?" she asked as she stepped through
into the diner.
"I'd do it as soon as possible. She's the oldest and never been married,"
Oshiwa giggled as she and her sisters skipped out into the diner.
Trader slowly followed the girls and realized the diner guests were all
silent, waiting to see what he would do. Paula was trying to be
nonchalant as she stacked clean glasses on a shelf behind the serving
counter.
Behind her in the middle of the diner Glitter carried an empty straight
backed chair to the center of the room.
He looked at Oshiwa who made a gesture, miming grabbing her and hoisting
her over his shoulder then nodded to the chair. The faces before him
looked on in anticipation.
He hesitated a second, then marched over and grabbed her around her
waist, lifting her up over his shoulder. As he turned heading for the
chair Zoey followed quickly her phone open in her hand.
"Momma, Daddy, this is Trader," Zoey said as he dropped into the chair
sliding her down across his lap. "Can you see everything?"
"Zoey you're shaking the camera," said Jimmy Brightfeather.
He delivered ten smacks that were almost too gentle. But then Paula
twisted around in his lap to kiss him. "Thank you Love," she said.
"What do I do now?" he asked.
Marline giggled, "You talk to Momma and Daddy, then go play burry the
bone again."
News traveled quickly through the convoys, Paula Brightfeather was no
longer a single woman. It was almost a full day before anyone saw the
pair again. Somehow he was learning to be less self-conscious of his
facial scarring. His crooked smile felt odd to him, but he couldn't help
it. He had a reason to smile now.
When he talked about the possibility of selling his shuttle though Paula
asked him, "Will it not be able to fly along the Freeway? Maybe you could
park it on top of Eagle?"
"You would want me to keep it?" he asked.
"It makes things easier when we need to go to the market. And it will
come in handy when the girls are going to school." She explained.
"Besides it is part of who you are."
"It will have to be flown through the portals," he said.
Then the girls wanted to see it in more detail. They wanted to clean it
and do his laundry. "I think someone might be old enough to begin
learning to pilot," he winked at Paula as he led the way to his shuttle.
It was the first time any of them would see the living quarters of the
little machine.
The only place that was clean of dirt or grime was the little shrine with
the pictures and the candles with the incense.
"I'm sorry," he said when he saw Paula's tears as she looked at it.
But then she went over to it and lit the candles. Taking out two new
sticks of incense she lit them before she said anything.
"Thank you for bringing him to me. I will care for him as much as you did
and I will not let him forget you."
"Paula?"
"They will always be a part of you, and now will always be a part of us,"
as she wrapped her arms around him the girls came to join in the group
hug.
They'd just gotten it all cleaned up when Babsie rushed in excitedly.
"They're showing the buildings being set at the Academies, come and
watch. It's really fascinating."
They joined everyone in the diner watching as the huge heavy lift star
ships slowly dropped through the atmosphere to hover at about five
hundred feet. Then the shuttles locked onto the buildings as they emerged
from the holds. The unseen tractor beams holding them, keeping them from
falling as the shuttles guided them to where they were supposed to be.
"Oh my god," gasped Zoey seeing the large one story building being set at
the edge of the highway.
"That looks like a Diner," gasped Carline. Paula smiled to herself, she
hadn't told her sisters Carline and Marline about the diner.
"No not just any diner," Zoey put in. "That's a copy of the Tomahawk
Stop, but it says Brightfeather's on the sign, Look!"
Sure enough as the lights came on the sign across the front lit up.
The overhead showed a dozen of the Terrellian Goth's as they began
spreading out moving quickly through the area. Going into each building
and then moving to the next.
"What are they doing?" someone asked.
"Making sure the buildings are safe and securely set." No one had seen
Calista when she stepped out of the utility room, but now everyone knew
she was there.
As we watched we saw several strange Alien vehicles as they wound their
way along the highway to pull up next to the diner. Before long another
truck pulled off the road across from the diner and began consulting with
someone.
My phone began to ring as whoever they were talking too made a call on
their own phone. "Hello?" I answered.
"Miss Pierce? Malissa Pierce?"
"Yes, who is this?" I asked.
"Mervin Kush, I'm the onsite coordinator for Mr Correll."
"Oh hello, how can I help you?"
"We have a number of your Staff and Faculty here wondering if they can
begin moving into the school. And we have a merchant that would like to
know where they can begin setting up something they call a Strip Mall."
He said over the phone as the guy on the view screen wandered a short
distance away from the truck.
"Is that you on the phone walking away from the truck?" I asked.
Suddenly the guy began looking around him, "Yes Ma'am where are you? Are
you here already?"
"We are watching a live video of the events. Hold on a second," I turned
to look over at Donnie. "Hey, get over here I need you for a
consultation," I told him.
"Ok, Mr Kush go ahead."
"Where can they set up the Mall thingy?"
"Mr Kush, that looks about as good a location as any, how big is it going
to be?" asked Donnie.
He walked back to the truck and said, "Can you please go stand at the
corners of where this Strip Mall is, they want to get an idea of how big
it will be.
It was about as long as five of the trucks and about four wide. "Have
them move it about two truck lengths back from the intersection," advised
Donnie. "And about a truck length off the roadway. They'll want plenty of
parking room to avoid congesting the highway at the intersection."
"And about the teachers and Staff?"
"Just as soon as the Reaper is finished with their inspection, they can
begin going through the security clearances with Commander Otru," Donnie
said. "We'd do it ourselves if we were there, but I'm sure you can
understand our needs for security."
As we watched, the truck tilted its trailer and the big box container
slid off gently to the ground in the center of the location for the strip
mall. As the truck and now empty trailer pulled away it began expanding,
slowly at first and then more rapidly it flattened out to cover the
ground. Then slowly as if being inflated the roof and walls began to rise
up. We could only imagine what might be occurring inside, but I could
feel my girls' excitement. A new place to shop.
But first we had to get there, and that meant at least one more leg of
the journey. I began looking for Missy, trying to spot her in the crowd.
Gradually, with Corra in my arms I made my way toward the Drivers
section. Suddenly she waved to me from the table, motioning me over.
"Hi Sis, pretty exciting huh? Getting to see your new school before it's
filled up with students."
"Yeah, it is. I had no idea what to expect. But this is like, like, Wow,"
I answered.
Leaning forward Jill asked me, "Do you think that maybe the chopsticks
would give us a performance before we have to get on the road again. May
and Rose keep talking about how beautiful it is."
"I could ask if they're up to it I suppose." I took another breath. "How
long before we get back on the road?"
"Oh, umm, we've been waiting for word from Mr Correll. It seems that he
isn't too sure how long it will be before the last building is fully
functional. And he's trying to get the Terraformer's to give him a more
exact detail of the seasons." Tim said.
"Hey, I hope I'm not interrupting anything," said Erika Tyler as she
stepped up to our little group.
"Not at all, we were just discussing maybe having a performance by the
Chopsticks, and the seasons on Iridani Five," BJ put in.
"There's a lot of really good pasture land around the school," she began.
"But yeah I would like to know about the seasons before my mares start
dropping foals. I don't even have barns yet, and I have two that are
getting pretty heavy."
"Oh, Joe didn't tell you about the trailers?" Missy piped up.
"Uhh, no he didn't," she answered.
"Joe, come over here a minute. Miss Tyler doesn't know about the
trailers."
"What about the trailers?" she asked.
"The reason that everyone's living quarters look just like their old
homes is because when we get to where we're going they will separate out
and expand to become our homes," Missy said.
She still looked confused.
