Mikey Hull walked into the dining commons of his assisted living
community looking for one of the case workers. He did not want to say
'deal' with them, most of them were so condescending with their
interactions with the residents. Instead of seeing the residents as
people who needed a little help, they treated the residents as if they
were incapable of doing anything on their own.
Even without wanting to even say hi, Mikey made sure to make eye
contact so he was seen. The man who would much rather cook his own
meal figured out if he was seen eating supper with the rest of the
residents twice a week he would be left alone by the staff and
management. The last thing he wanted was a visit to his room by one of
them. That visit would be a check up on him in the vile disguise of
forced social interaction.
Mikey knew he needed a little help to live on his own, but those
workers tried to keep him from doing more. He did not see it as them
trying to be friendly and spend more time with him. It was them
justifying their job and Mikey needing to live there. Mikey saw it as
them trying to hamper him from being as independent as he could be. He
knew they meant well, wanted to do good, but they should listen to
him. Judge him for what he was capable of doing and let him do up to
his abilities. He just wanted to be as independent as he could be.
There was one good thing thing about going to the dining hall for
Mikey. There was a chance he would see Jill Bourque. Mikey always felt
good being around her and the feeling was mutual on her part. Mikey
wanted to just spend some time with her. The man, who wanted to share
time and news with a friend, knew that getting Jill to sit with him
alone made it so he would have to deal with the staff.
Even with the staff encouraging all the residents to be social with
each other, they looked down on it when the residents sat in small
groups. The disapproval came from upper management and the official
reasoning of the policy was to be inclusive. The real reason was just
so upper management had one less situation to deal with. They did not
want to deal with any of the residents feeling left out. That could
lead to an increase of turnover and upper management want to make sure
they were at 100% capacity at all times.
Jill was as happy a cat on catnip that Miikey asked her to sit alone.
It was always a good time when those two could be together alone. When
they were in a group the topics were not as interesting and everyone
wanted to talk. She liked talking with other people, but just wanted
to hear what Mikey had to say when he was around.
Those two sat down at a table in the far corner, because now Mikey
wanted the two to be like ninjas, invisible to the caretakers. As soon
as the workers saw them by themselves they would take notice. Then
they would come talk to them in a couple of minutes if they were not
sociable to others.
Knowing his time was as limited as a Franklin Mint collectible plate,
Mikey got to the point. "Jill, I am going to be in a wedding as a
bridesmaid."
Jill thought Mikey was joking and laughed. "You are going to be an
usher."
"No, my friend Mel likes to be pretty and he is going to be the
bride!"
Jill knew how Mel was from Mikey talking about him and thought it was
neat that a man wanted to wear a dress and totally understood it.
Those bridal gowns were so pretty to her. She saw how special brides
looked in them. Even the maids of honor looked special in their
dresses to her. She was so happy that the man she found to be special
was going to look and feel special. "That is nice he likes to be
pretty, it is nice to feel pretty. You are pretty also. You will also
feel so special in that gown!"
Mikey turned as red as Krypton's sun hearing Jill's words. Her saying
something nice about him always had that effect on him. "You are also
pretty. I want to know if you would like to go to the wedding with
me?"
Jill would want to go anywhere with Mikey. A wedding! The lady who
felt good around Mikey, would want to go there with him more than a
dog wanted to be owned by a butcher. She quickly said yes and sent a
huge non inclusive alert to the staff that it was time to have more
people at that table, by kissing him. Public Display of Affections
were frowned upon by the upper management, it breaks up the harmony of
the residents.
Two staff members, Hazel Nguyen and Ginger Schmidt came to make sure
nothing more happened and also why Jill kissed Mikey. Hazel said, "Hey
there Mikey and Jill, how are you two doing?"
Mikey knew that Hazel did not care how they were doing, the visit was
about what they are doing. "We are doing fine."
Hazel wanted more information. "What are you two talking about?"
"I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding and invited Jill to be my
date."
"Mikey now is not the time to joke."
Jill knew that Hazel would not approve of Mikey being a bridesmaid.
"He was only joking about the bridesmaid part. He is taking me to a
wedding."
Ginger thought it was nice to see those two go out. It was obvious to
the entire staff they were sweet on each other. Ginger knew those two
would have done something sooner if there were not protocols for the
residents to follow. The residents should not have to get a go between
to ask for a date.
Hazel on the other hand did not like that Mikey did not follow the
rules. They were in place for reasons. Him asking Jill might have made
her feel pressured to say yes. Plus, the staff needed to know what was
in the personal life of the residents. It would help them handle the
good and bad which came along with it.
Hazel started to chastise Mikey. "Now, you know the rules Mikey. You
need to ask one of us to ask someone out like that. Now see me after
diner and we will discuss this."
Ginger was not going to let Hazel try to show more power than she had.
Even with it being a rule, it was not enforceable. "Mikey, I think it
is great that you are taking Jill to a wedding. You two are going to
have a great time! You do not need to see Hazel after dinner. The date
is already made."
As Ginger was putting Hazel in her place, the stickler to the rules
motioned a couple of the residents coming from the serving lines over
to the table. Wanting to save face Hazel told Mikey if he wanted to
take Jill out before or after the wedding he had to follow the
procedures for a first date. Ginger told Mikey no, and that she would
put in the records that Mikey and Jill are going out.
On there way away from the table Ginger was enjoying seeing those two
being the most that they could be. Hazel was making a mental note to
call Steve about his brother not following the rules and also not
treating her with respect when she asked him a question.

Maryanne could not wait until Sunday to ask the rest. The lady groom
wanted to get her ducks in a row so the planning of the wedding could
go as smoothly as possible. All three of the wives of the rest of
Mel's bridal party said yes. Rosey did so to be as close as possible
to her man Jessie, to give as much support as possible. Simone knew
that her man Kelly would love how the two could joke and play around
with her being in this wedding also. Rhoda said yes so she could tease
and joke her man about it even more. The only no she got was from her
sister, April Fox.
Maryanne was as disappointed as a person who was first in line and yet
somehow did not get the concert tickets with her sister declining to
be in the wedding. April's reasoning was that she was not comfortable
being in such an unconventional wedding party. The wedding was
somewhat unconventional, but who cares? It isn't hurting anyone.
Coming back to the living room, Mel could tell his future wife was
down. The man who was going to make a great husband called her over,
motioning for her to sit on the couch with her back to him. Right
after she sat down Mel started to rub her back. All he said was, "Care
to share?"
Maryanne enjoyed the massage for a couple of minutes to get the
tension out of her body first. She did not want her disappointment to
turn into anger. Once she was in the right state of mind, Maryanne
said, "It is just my sister does not want to be in the wedding. She
complained about having to buy bridesmaid dresses every time she was
in a wedding, now she does not have to, and she turns it down! We
don't have a grooms-woman for Mikey."
"Maryanne, it will work out. We have time."
"I know we do. It is just I wanted my sister to be in the wedding."
"I know my love."

On the way over to Kim's, Steve was relaxed for a man who has to come
face to face to a mistake he made. Steve was not feeling any tension
because he was becoming an old hand at admitting he was wrong about
trying to get revenge for the prank gone bad. Also, this time he had
so much more support than the only cornerstone of his life, his wife,
Emily. Jessie, Kelly, Max and Mel were all going to be there and they
all forgave him for his transgression. Plus, they understood the
reason behind his actions. Getting Kim to let him back into the fold
would be easy.
Even if he and Kim could not make amends, Steve still knew today was
going to a great day. Mikey was in his backseat. Spending time with
his brother was always good. This was going to be even better for
Mikey was going to get to see the gang from his childhood. Mel's
wedding party had plans to watch the game together and start working
on the wedding afterwards. Kim told them to bring Mikey along, the
more the merrier.
Kim was looking forward to seeing Mikey. He could not remember a time
where he did not know Mikey, and it has been too long since he saw him
last. It had to be Max's wedding. Kim knew it was a sign of being an
adult, seeing people who were important to you in your childhood only
at weddings and funerals. Still, he missed how positive and upbeat
Mikey was. That man was so trusting and saw the good in people until
they proved otherwise to him.
Steve did make sure he was the last to show up. He wanted a buffer
between himself and Kim when they first shared greetings. The last
time those two saw each other, Kim gave him a look which could kill a
god. Even after Steve saved the day with the tuxes and not going
through with the revenge, Kim was still as happy with his friend as a
dad was with his child who flunked out of college.
The rest of the crew was having a great time as they waited for Steve.
There was not an awkwardness between the guys. Kim's time away from
them was more like he was away for college than him avoiding the
others.
Steve, his wife, and brother walked into Kim's house. Mikey's smile
was as big the point spread in today's game between the Steelers and
the Browns. Everyone returned the same smile back to the man who was
just happy to see those who he cared about. Seeing the smile on Kim's
face being just as big as Mikey's made the little doubt Steve had
about reconnecting with his friend fade away..
Before Steve could extend his apologies Kim did so. The man who was
willing to meet his friend half way said he would have been just as
pissed as Steve, if not more, if his head was shaved before his
wedding. Steve said he'd went to the extremes and should have handled
it better.
Steve was happy to see the change of heart Kim had towards him and
wondered why until Lorene greeted him. Lorene thanked him for putting
Terry in his place. The thanks was generic enough that it did not
reveal anything to anyone who did not know all the men except the
Hulls in that room wore dresses.
Mikey loved watching football, but wanted to talk about the wedding.
He was looking forward to being with his friends and also spending
time with Jill. He wanted to share with everyone there about him
having a plus one. He also wanted to make sure everyone knew how proud
he was about being part of the wedding. Mikey took standing next to
Mel as he got married as a high honor. During the first commercial
break Mikey said, "With me being a bridesmaid, where will my date sit
Mel?"
Mel and Maryanne looked at each other thinking the same thing, their
search for the last grooms-woman was over! Lorene and Kim looked at
the each other thinking the same thing, did we hear Mikey right? The
Hee-Chuls were shocked at hearing 'bridesmaid', and they both said,
"What?"
Mel said, "Oh, I am going to be the bride at our wedding. It is
fitting with how Maryanne and I met. Plus, I always dreamt of being a
bride and it was never a big deal to Maryanne."
Maryanne made a generic joke first and was serious when she added, "Oh
yes, I am just happy that this man is going to make a honest woman out
of me!"
No, I am just happy to be marrying the man who makes me the best
person I can be. Like my Mellie Mel said, I never really cared about
how my wedding was going to be other than it was to the perfect man
for me. So I am getting my dream wedding also."
Lorene asked, "So there are going to be two brides?"
Mel said, "No, Maryanne was nice enough to offer to dress like the
groom. She did not want to take the attention off of me on my big day.
Everyone you have over to watch the game is in the wedding. The guys
are my bridal party and their wives will be Maryanne's grooms-women."
Lorene then asked, "So when are you going to ask Kim to be one of your
bridesmaids and I can be a grooms-woman?"
Mel said, "Sorry Lorene. We have no room for anymore bridesmaids."
The future Mr. and Mrs. Blake were not going to ask Kim for their
wedding party was big enough. That thought did not even cross their
minds. They would have made room if Kim was around when they were
picking the people who would stand with them. Not even considering Kim
and Lorene being in the wedding party came from Mel and Maryanne not
wanting to to reopen any decision which was already made. They were
already overburdened with planning their wedding day, so they both did
not want to backtrack on anything which was done. Also, Mel knew how
much Kim hated being in a dress.
Mikey knew that Kim deserved to be in the wedding party and also that
Mel did not want anymore bridesmaids. Mikey felt it was not fair of
him to have Kim's spot. He still wanted to be part of the wedding
party and was scared that Mel might ask him to step down. It was
understandable to him, Kim and Mel were closer friends. So he would
not be hurt, Mikey offered to be the flower boy instead.
Kim knew how hard it was for Mikey to make that offer. The man not in
the wedding party also knew that unless some agreement was made, Mikey
would feel guilty taking the spot. "Mikey, no, you are going to be a
bridesmaid. If Mel has not found one yet, I would be the flower boy.
That is only if my wife is the ring bearer!"
Even with hating the idea of being in a dress again, Kim knew what he
just did was the right thing. His hatred of the idea also started to
wane with the reactions from everyone there. All the guys were so
supportive of him. Mikey being proud to be in the wedding party
reaffirmed it was the right course of action. It was a privilege to be
in your friend's wedding.
Mel grinned. "Kim, I am honored that you will be my flower boy. Now,
with that being settled. Mikey do you think that your plus one would
like to be in the wedding?"

Terry was sitting alone in his man-cave. The other seat in his La-Z-
Boy Celebration 2 Seater Power Recliner Sofa With Sound was empty just
like the matching La-Z-Boy sofa perpendicular to it. The only
occupants of the four bar stools at the bar was dust. The fridge full
of craft beers was full.
The solitary man's thought was also like how he was, alone. There was
only one thought on his mind, Kim having the rest of his old crew over
at his place. Terry could not believe that Kim did not come over to
watch the game today. If choosing not to hang out in this cool adult
club house was unbelievable, the reason why made it so. It was to hang
out with Terry's old friends, even Steve was going to be there.
How could Kim invite Steve over, those two were mad at him. Even with
not being invited, Terry would have crashed the get together if Steve
was not going to be there. There was no way that Terry was going to be
in any social situation with Steve. The Fox wanted to stay as far away
from the hound as possible. The last time the hound chased him, Terry
was trapped in a corner. The only way he got out of that trap was the
hound called it off himself.
During halftime, Terry's loving bride, Beth, came down to check on her
man. She had been a little concerned about Terry ever since the
wedding. She sat on the couch and Terry joined her on it. At first he
was irked that she joined him. The man who just wanted to watch the
game with friends was dreading Beth wanting to talk about anything
other than the game. Then those feeling went away as fast as the
Browns' chance of winning the game when they cuddled together. It felt
good to Terry just holding Beth.
Squeezing his main squeeze brought Terry to the here and now. His one
track mind became the open road. Not only was his mind free from the
chains of the past, it was also free to accept new ideas. During a
break in the action, Terry said to Beth. "Next week, why don't we
invite a couple of your friends and their husbands over to watch the
game?"

Max and Rhoda were on their way home from Kim's. Those hours with the
group was a welcome adjournment from her poking fun at the wedding
situation. He knew soon his wife would start the continuation of her
new hobby.
The man who was getting more annoyed from his wife's immature antics
knew the only reason she did not make even a single smart remark was a
self serving one. She enjoyed getting underneath Max's skin too much
to chance being called out on it again by others. Rhoda wanted to make
sure there was no chance of Maryanne or Mel rescinding their being in
the bridal party. Rhoda thought that those two, along with her
husband, needed to lighten up.
Rhoda did not like that the only noise in the car was the oldies
station. Her husband had been giving her the silent treatment more and
more even when she was not joking around with him. She wanted to
inject some levity into the situation and also laugh. Plus, she had
some new material; Kim was going to be in the wedding as a flower
girl. "Hey Maxine, are you jealous of Kimmie? She is going to get to
wear a dress which is even frillier than yours."
The response she got was the same as the premise of Seinfeld, nothing.
Max's non-reaction got a reaction from Rhoda. How was she going to
enjoy getting to her husband if he did not react? Rhoda made the
decision to amp it us some. "You know, you are going to have go on a
diet to get yourself into that dress. You know bridesmaids want to
look their best."
That did get a reaction from Max, but not the one she wanted. "Rhoda,
I am actually weighing 10 pounds less than the day we got married. Can
you say the same?"
Rhoda was fuming that Max went there. It was wrong of him to bring up
that subject. Max should know that weight was like an aching tooth to
most women, very sensitive. Rhoda was ready to fire back at Max, but
thought better. She knew how analytical he was, and if she showed any
sign of that comment getting to her, he would harp on it all the time.
The lady who was fuming put on her poker face and that put a smile on
Max's. He knew exactly which button to push now to stop his wife from
acting childish. The man who wanted his wife to act her age, not her
dress size, wished he would have done this earlier. He was under the
assumption that getting a little bit of her own medicine would make
his wife quit.
Instead of forcing Rhoda to follow Max's wishes and quit with her
childish behavior, that comment lead to Rhoda planning to up her own
comments. Rhoda did not like taking what she dished out and was going
to make it so that Max knew. It would be later, for she wanted the
right joke, the one which would put Max in his place, not daring to
open his mouth again in that manner.

Alan Wheaton thanked Hazel Nguyen for the information and knew he had
to stop Mikey Hull from being a bridesmaid. Mikey's brothers and his
friends were taking advantage of the poor man. Mikey was not smart
enough to make the decision to be in a dress. If those degenerates
wanted to be in a dress, fine, but they had no right to force Mikey to
play in their sick game.
The operating director of the assisted living facility was mortified
as Hazel told him how matter of fact Steve confirmed about the men
being the bridesmaids. Alan could not believe the audacity of the
deviant he thought was a good God-fearing Christian. All Steve gave
Hazel was a yes when she asked. How could that man not explain
himself?
Alan was then as thankful as a driver getting the high beam heads up
about a speed trap that Steve did not give Hazel more details about
the wedding. Poor Hazel was barely able to take knowing about the
wedding. One of his best orderlies did not deserve to know more about
the debauchery those heathens were planning.
Mr. Wheaton put a red flag on all visitors for Mikey. He wanted to
talk with Steve face to face. The man who going to set the wrong he
saw right also was going to talk with Mikey. He wanted to make sure
that his resident was not yet abused by his so called loving brother.
Even if Mikey was not, Alan was going to do whatever it took to
protect Mikey from Steve.
