I had moved to a house just three blocks off of the Pacific Ocean. At the end of the cul-de-sac, a trail led downward to the edge of a cliff overlooking the water. Below the cliff was a wide, smooth, rock ledge, facing due west, that when the ocean was calm, became a secluded, sunbathing haven for coeds from the local university.
