AF: Unbalanced
By Bashful
When Jeff Carson opened his front door that evening, he had no idea the
mild looking woman on his porch had every intention of murdering him.
Not to mention the harrowing transformation he must first endure.
Probably the kindest thing that could be said about Lynn Butler was that
she was unbalanced. Those that knew her best said much worse than
that about her. In the five months she had lived in town, she had made no
friends. People tried to get close to her but she didn't respond to their
attempts, with one exception.
Tonight, Lynn was on a mission. Her heart burned with a passion for the
life that she must 'rescue'. It never occurred to her that she might be
wrong.
Lynn was twenty-four years old. She stood 5' 4, with mousy brown,
shoulder length hair and lifeless gray eyes. She was not unattractive, just
plain looking. She was dressed in a fairly nice looking business suit with
a skirt that just reached her knees, but she was almost completely devoid
of makeup and jewelry. It was as if she did not care to attempt to
improve on nature. In truth, a little effort on her part would have had
very favorable results. She did not seek to achieve those results though.
"Yes, can I help you?" Jeff asked as he opened the door. Jeff was tall,
over 6' 2 and very fit. He enjoyed exercise and sports, both playing and
watching them. That's what he had been doing before he was interrupted,
watching the Rangers beat the Giants.
"Hi, my name is Lynn, Lynn Butler I work for your wife Lori. I just need
to drop off these files for her. She called and said she would need them
this weekend. She doesn't plan on going back to the office after her trip."
Jeff sighed and stepped back to let the young woman in. She had a large
stack of files in her arms and she set them down on the credenza in the
foyer as Jeff directed her to.
"May I use your restroom please, it took me an hour to find your house."
The girl was fidgeting like she was going to wet her panties.
"Sure, just go back through that hallway and down to your right, the door
should be open." Jeff sat down and resumed watching the baseball game
he had been enjoying. He was upset at the interruption and at the fact
that Lori would be working at home this weekend after being gone all
week. He had hoped they could spend some time together.
Lynn walked down the hall, looking at the furnishings. It was a fine
house with plenty of room. There were several bedrooms but no children
as of yet. Lori had mentioned at work that she was waiting for her
husband to decide it was time for kids. Lynn thought she had said this
with longing in her voice.
She used the toilet then washed her hands. She took one last look in the
mirror. If her plan succeeded, she would not have to stare at that face
again, not as a refection. Steeling herself for what she was about to do,
Lynn walked out of the restroom and back to the living room.
Jeff arose when she entered the room. "Is they're anything else?" He
asked.
"I hate to impose," Lynn said, "but could I trouble you for a drink of ice
water. The air conditioner in my car is on the fritz and it is so very hot
outside tonight."
Jeff wasn't happy about a further interruption, but he could see the girl
was sweating, although it wasn't for the reason he believed. He went to
the kitchen and returned with a glass of ice water and a cold bottle of
spring water as well.
"Here's some cold water to take with you for your trip home." Jeff
offered her.
Lynn smiled and accepted the bottle of water and the glass.
"Thank you, you're every bit as nice as your wife, you know." She said.
"I have never worked for a nicer boss than Lori. She is so considerate,
she doesn't make demands, and she helps us if we need it. That's why I
was glad to drive out here tonight and drop off the files. Would you mind
if I just sit here for a minute and drink this water before I have to get
back into that hot car?"
Lynn looked expectantly at Jeff. He resigned himself to having his game
spoiled and offered her a seat.
Lynn thanked him and sat down and slowly drank her water. Jeff in turn
drank from the bottle of imported beer that he had been nursing for the
last ten minutes and tried to watch the ball game on his big screen TV.
Lynn seemed to be paying more attention to Jeff than to the game. He
tried to ignore her but she was obviously staring at him. Finally he turned
to her and looked her straight in the eyes.
"Are you finished with your water yet?" he asked, somewhat pointedly.
"Yes, I am, thank you very much for your kindness and hospitality." She
stood to go and looked at Jeff again. Exasperated, Jeff stood to walk her
out to the door. When he straightened up, the room spun. He sat down
again and shook his head. Something was very wrong.
Lynn stood there watching him, like a cat might watch a mouse.
"Are you okay?" Lynn asked Jeff.
Jeff tried to speak but found he couldn't. He tried to stand back up and
could not do that either. In fact, he discovered, he could not move at all,
except his eyes.
Lynn walked over and somewhat hesitantly touched Jim's hand. When he
did not react, she visibly relaxed.
"It worked, you can't move." Lynn said aloud. "Jeff, I'm sorry to have
done this to you but you are a lousy husband. I have listened to your wife
for the last 5 months tell everyone in the office how little attention you
pay to her. You travel for business and then come home and play golf all
weekend, or softball. You ignore her, it's that simple. I could tell you a
lot more, but there is no purpose in that. Bottom line, Jeff, I am here to
replace you. I love Lori, she is sweet and smart and caring and she will
make a wonderful mother. I know she would never consider a
relationship with another woman, so I am going to take your body and
your place."
Lynn stood in front of Jeff and began carefully disrobing. Soon she was
naked. Jeff could see her if she stood in front of his eyes. She had an
average body. Jeff was not interested in her naked body though. He was
thinking furiously, trying to figure out how to get out of this
predicament. It was obvious to him this girl was mentally unsound. He
had no idea how she planned on "taking his body" but at the moment, he
was helpless to stop her.
"Do you like my body Jeff?" Lynn asked, "It's not the best one around
but it's not too bad. Of course, I never got a great deal of pleasure out of
it. You won't have to worry about that though. I undressed not to show
you my body but because I had to take those clothes off before they were
torn up. Men never seemed to pay much attention to me. I've only had
sex a couple of times and I didn't enjoy it all that much. The men I was
with finished and left, I never saw them again. They didn't care about my
needs. I hate men like that Jeff and you're one of them, you don't care
about Lori's needs or desires. It's obvious from the way she talks about
you. Oh, she laughs when she talks about it, but I can tell, she's hurting
inside. I'm here to fix that, Jeff. "
Lynn walked away and when she came back into his line of sight she
was carrying a necklace. She placed the necklace around Jeff's neck and
then she touched the pendant hanging from the chain. Jeff felt a tingle
run through his body. He thought at first he was getting mobility back ,
but he still couldn't move.
"It's started now Jeff, soon you will look just like me and I will look just
like you. Then, I will be Jeff Carson, Lori Carson's loving husband. I'll
treat her right Jeff, I'll be her friend and her lover and I'll give her the
children she wants. I can see you starting to change Jeff; can you feel the
changes? Probably not, I've found that you really don't feel the changes
taking place."
Jeff could see that Lynn was taller and her breasts had shrunk. He had
feeling in his body but he couldn't feel it changing.
"I've got to get control of my body before this crazy girl does something
serious." Jeff thought. "She must have drugged my beer while I was in
the kitchen. How the hell is she making her body change? It must be a
side effect of the drug, she told me she is changing so I think I'm seeing
her change. Wait, I can feel my hands sliding up my shirt sleeves, like
their getting shorter. My head isn't as high up the chair as it was a few
minutes ago, am I really shrinking?"
Lynn must have seen the realization in Jeff's eyes.
"Are you feeling something Jeff?" Lynn asked him, "Starting to believe
me now, are you? It'll be all over soon. I'm tempted to see what you
could make of my life Jeff, a big strong man like yourself, suddenly
changed into a little woman like me. Could you be less of a loser than I
was? It's tempting Jeff, very tempting but far too dangerous. I'm going to
have to remove you as soon as I have dressed you in my old clothes.
Your body will be found in a park, the victim of a random mugging. A
very sad ending to a sad little life. I'll try to make it painless Jeff but this
will be the first time I've killed. I think of it as a mercy killing Jeff, you
wouldn't want to live my life. You should have been a better husband,
then you wouldn't be in this position."
Lynn was out of Jeff's line of sight and then she stepped back in. Jeff was
shocked to see that she now looked exactly like him. He also realized
that her voice had gradually changed and she now sounded like him as
well.
"Looks like our changes have stopped, Jeff." Lynn said, "Now I need to
undress you, and get you dressed back into my, well, now they're your
clothes." Lynn reached down and picked Jeff up with surprising ease. He
now knew he was much smaller than he had been just minutes before. He
knew what this meant but he refused to accept it. Lynn carried Jeff into
the bedroom and lay him across the bed. She began unbuttoning his shirt
and then pulled his pants and shirt off of him. Lynn stripped off Jeff's
underwear, socks and his wedding ring and watch. Lynn took the
medallion off and Jeff saw her drop it on the dresser. He was now
completely naked. He could feel the air conditioning blowing cool across
his body. His nipples became erect, he felt them in a way he had never
experienced before.
"My, the cool air does perk them up, doesn't it?" Lynn said. She sat
down on the bed next to Jeff and began massaging his chest. Jeff felt her
fingers cup a mound of flesh he did not have there before. The
sensations he felt were many times more intense than any he had felt
from his nipples before. Jeff knew he was feeling someone caress the
breasts he now possessed. Lynn turned her attention to the area of Jeff's
crotch. She ran her fingers up Jeff's bare thigh and across a pair of lips
that should not have been there. The movement caused a flood of goose
bumps to race across Jeff's body, if he could have moved he would have
shivered from the touch. Then Lynn slowly inserted her finger into the
opening between the lips and explored Jeff's new vagina. Jeff accepted
the fact that he was now a female. His mind was numb with fear. He was
completely helpless as this person violated his body. He feared death or
at best, life as a woman. Maybe death would be preferable.
"Jeff, it seems funny to call a girl that, I shouldn't be doing this, but I
know Lori won't be home until tomorrow afternoon. I have just
experienced my first erection and it seems such a shame to let it go to
waste. You really don't mind, do you. Speak up if you do. Just say no
and I'll dress you up, take you to the park and kill you. Or, first, we can
have a good time. Well, I'll have a good time. What, nothing to say,
okay, let me get something first and we will both have a new
experience."
Lynn got up and Jeff heard her walk around the room and start looking
through drawers. Finally, in Jeff's nightstand, she found what she was
looking for.
"Here we go, I was sure you would have some around. Trojans. Ribbed?
Is that really better? Be sure and let me know when we are done. I want
the condom so that I don't have to worry about semen. If I didn't use the
condom, I'd just have to clean you up later. Jeff, I hope you don't get too
upset about this. I mean, if I wasn't going to kill you later, I wouldn't
have sex with you now but the desire to screw my own body is just too
strong to ignore. It is a true 'once in a lifetime opportunity'. Also, I want
to have at least a little experience before I bed my lovely new wife."
Jeff 's mind was spinning, he was about to be raped by his own body. He
was powerless, try as he might, he could not move.
"It's little bright in here, don't you think," Lynn said, "I think I'll improve
the mood of the room by turning out some lights." Lynn then shut off all
the lights in the bedroom except the lamp on the night stand on the right
side on the bed. Lynn moved to the bed and stood beside Jeff, in his line
of sight. She placed the condom on the tip of her penis and unrolled it
over the shaft. When it was in place, she sighed audibly.
"I'm not sure this is right but I am going through with it. Jeff, you're
probably going to consider this rape, but I will be gentle." Lynn said
softly. Lynn felt Jeff's lower lips again and went back into the master
bathroom. She came back carrying a tube of KY Jelly.
"Jeff, you're a little dry and it would hurt unless I lubricate you. I don't
want to hurt you." Lynn hummed while she gently applied a small
amount of the jelly to Jeff's labia and again ran her finger inside him.
Lynn moved between Jeff's legs and after some experimentation and a
few failed attempts, managed to penetrate Jeff. Lynn began moving in
and out, grunting from the effort.
Jeff felt the movement and the thrusting, he felt Lynn laying on top of
him but he was not stimulated by the intercourse. The sensation of being
penetrated was unfamiliar and painful. Lynn was thrusting harder than
she needed to. Her body was crushing the air out of his lungs. His mind
was screaming for her to stop. He knew she planned on murdering him
when she finished raping him. He wondered what he did that was so
wrong that he deserved this. He remembered a book title he had seen
once. "When Bad Things Happen to Good People". He had always
thought he was a good person, now he began to wonder. Something had
to happen to give him a chance to fight for his life.
He didn't just want to lay here and let this crazy woman who had stolen
his body, kill him as well. He was more afraid of what would happen to
Lori. If he died but saved Lori, he would accept it. But to die and not be
able to help her was more than he could stand. From somewhere inside,
Jeff began building anger and strength to use against Lynn when the
smallest opportunity appeared. He had to be able to act and act fast.
Jeff looked at the only thing he could see, a corner of the ceiling in his
bedroom. Would this be the last thing he saw in this life? Was he going
to die in this woman's body?
Lynn climaxed, letting out a loud howl while she did.
"Wow, that was fantastic, I never knew it was so intense for a man. No
wonder it's all they have on their minds." Lynn exclaimed. She rolled off
of Jeff and lay on her back, catching her breath. She laughed to herself
and clapped her hands. "Jeff, that is a secret men have got to keep from
women. If they ever find out how good it feels to screw a woman, there
won't be any women left." Lynn stood up and headed toward the
bathroom.
Jeff heard the toilet flush and then running water in a sink. Lynn came
back and used a warm, wet wash rag to wipe Jeff's crotch. When she
was done, she looked at Jeff.
"There, all cleaned up. A lady must be hygienic, it's very important. Poor
hygiene results in unpleasant odors. I really enjoyed that Jeff, did you? I
guess you still can't answer me. I need to dress you now, have you ever
worn a skirt before? I bet you never have. I don't particularly like them,
but you have to dress a certain way when you're a woman in an office.
Of course, it's not like you are really going to have to learn how to walk
or sit or anything else. You probably won't be able to move by the time I
finally . . . finish with you. But you have to be dressed, I won't leave
your nude body to be found. Would you like me to tell you what my plan
is? I'll take your silence as a yes."
"I'm going to dress you up, pull your car into the garage and then put you
in the trunk of your car. Actually, it's my car now, isn't it? After I get you
in the trunk, I'll suffocate you there. I brought a plastic drop cloth; it's
inside one of the accordion files I brought in tonight. I'll line the car
trunk with that first so if you leak any... fluids, they won't get on the
trunk carpet. It'll also prevent carpet fibers from clinging to your clothes.
That's how they caught the Atlanta child murderer, carpet fibers. Once
you're dead, I'll drive to a park and dump your body just off the road.
That's the tricky part, if someone should see me. I'm just going to have to
risk it. I have a diary at my place that I have been writing in lately. I have
described a man that I have been seeing, but don't mention a name. I tell
about the special date I have tonight with my lover. He doesn't exist, of
course, he is just a red herring to lead the police away from Jeff Carson."
"I need to get dressed myself before I dress you." Lynn stood up and
walked off.
Jeff was trying hard to move something, anything but having no success.
Then he felt a muscle twitch in his leg. He hoped it meant the drug was
wearing off. He needed more time. Lynn came back and pulled Jeff into
a sitting position. She began trying to attach a bra to Jeff's body. Since he
couldn't move it was harder than she had suspected. Lynn fussed for a
few minutes then finally succeeded. She laid Jeff back down and
adjusted his breasts in the cups. She then pulled her panties up Jeff's legs.
This was easier and she soon had the panties in place. Lynn stood up and
looked down at Jeff.
"You look very cute in those Jeff, very cute." Lynn laughed and walked
away to get the rest of the clothes. When she returned, she bent over Jeff
to raise him back up to put her slip on him. Jeff managed to make a
sound when she was close to his face.
"How..." Jeff croaked.
"How? How did I change you into me and vise versa?" Lynn asked,
amused that such an unimportant matter would interest someone about to
die.
Jeff made another sound that Lynn took for yes.
"I found this medallion in the street one day. It was cheap and gaudy
looking. It has a figure on it that looks like an angel or a fairy. I picked it
up and took it home. It seemed like just a piece of junk to me. I tried to
polish it up but it never got any shiner. At one point, I tried it on and then
I tried polishing it again with this old rag. I felt a tingle. I slowly turned
into myself as a 17-year-old girl. I didn't like that; I was very fat in high
school. I came close to panic for a few minutes, but then I reasoned if I
was changed into one person, I could be changed into another. I looked
at what I had been polishing the medallion with. It was a piece of my old
gym suit from high school. I had recently cut up a bunch of old clothes
for rags. I got one of my dresses and touched it to the medallion. Nothing
happened. I kept trying every hour until I changed back. It took twelve
hours before the medallion would allow me to change again. I wanted
more information on the medallion; I began searching the Internet. I
looked for a long time without finding anything. Then one day I met a
woman in a chat room who said she used to own the medallion. Her
name was Helen or so she said."
"Helen told me she had been changed by the medallion about a year ago.
She used to be a man named Glen. The real Helen had taken her male
body and ran off. Helen told me the medallion could be used to switch
two people like I switched you and me. One wears the medallion and the
other touches it. It can also be used to change just one person like it
changed me into the 17 year girl I used to be. Helen told me it won't
work on a woman if she is having a period or is pregnant. Well, as of
tonight, I won't be having anymore periods and I am going to spare you
from that undignified experience, Jeff."
"Helen said she tried to get the police to believe her, to believe that she
was really Glen. She even paid for DNA testing. The test showed she
was Helen and the man was Glen. Since Helen didn't have the medallion,
she couldn't prove she had been changed."
"That's how I changed us, Jeff. Helen has been looking for the medallion
ever since so she could change back. She offered to buy the medallion
from me, I didn't answer her. I signed off the chat room and never went
back."
"Jeff, I have to finish dressing you now," Lynn told him, "I have to get
up and go to my new job with my new life and you have a date with
destiny. I'm sorry you won't be around to see how happy I'm going to
make Lori, but I promise you, she will be well taken care of."
Lynn put the rest of her clothes on Jeff and added makeup from her
purse as she began humming again.
"It would look strange," she told Jeff, "if a girl who wrote in her diary
that she had a date, weren't wearing make up." Lynn touched perfume to
his neck and wrists. Finally, Jeff was presentable.
"Okay Jeff, you may want to make your peace with whatever god you
believe in. I am going to get your car into the garage and prepare the
trunk. You have very little time left." Lynn told him and left the room,
still humming.
Using all the strength at his command, Jeff stood up on very shaky legs
and went through the list he had made in his mind. First, the medallion,
he had seen Lynn leave it on the dresser and there it was. Jeff grabbed it
and slipped it over his head. Just to be sure, he touched one of his shirts
to it. Nothing happened. He dropped the medallion inside the white
blouse he was wearing. Then he grabbed his wallet. He took out all the
cash and his ATM card. That gave him $350.00 plus whatever he could
get out of the bank. Then he grabbed his cell phone and a spare set of
house keys he kept in his top dresser drawer. Finally he got a pair of his
socks out of his dresser as something he had worn before to use with the
medallion.
Picking up Lynn's purse, he put everything inside it and he made his
escape.
Lynn came back into the room and found Jeff gone. She looked around,
thinking he had rolled onto the floor but he was not there. Then she saw
the open window. Somehow Jeff had managed to slip out.
"Damn it, this is not good." Lynn said aloud. "I have to find that bitch
and kill her before she screws up my new life." Lynn had already begun
thinking like she was really Jeff. "I can't take the chance of calling the
police. She might be believed, I'll have to take my chances that I can find
her before she gets to Lori."
As Lynn ranted and raved about the turn of fortunes, Jeff lay still in
Lori's closet. He had crawled inside the large double walk-in closet after
opening the window. He was concealed behind clothes hanging on a low
bar. He knew he was in no condition to run from Lynn. He needed to rest
a while longer. Lynn could be heard rummaging through drawers and
Jeff's closet. Then she left the room. Jeff waited, he was safer there than
on the streets. If he was patient, Lynn would go to sleep and he would
slip out and away. Then Lynn began talking to herself again.
"If that stupid bitch gets to the cops, she might convince them to come
here. Hell, she might make up a story I raped her and they would have to
investigate that. Thank God I used a condom. She can't have gotten far.
Maybe I can catch her."
Jeff heard his car leave the garage. He slowly came out, making sure it
wasn't a trap. He was feeling stronger by the minute but he knew he was
running on adrenaline and sooner than later he was going to collapse.
Jeff took a small gym bag from his closet and put a change of male
clothes in it. Jeff then tried to find a pair of flat heeled shoes that fit.
Lori's shoes were all too small for his new feet and Jeff's shoes were all
too large. He had to leave wearing Lynn's 2-inch heels. He tried walking
barefoot but Lynn's feet were to tender. To his surprise, Jeff didn't have
very much trouble walking in the shoes.
Jeff walked two blocks to the 7-11 on the corner. He was scared stiff the
entire time. Every time a set of car lights approached, Jeff ducked behind
a bush or tree. Finally, he arrived at the store and found some change in
Lynn's purse. He called a cab and waited inside the store for it to arrive.
Jeff had the cabby take him to a motel on the other side of town. He
checked in to a room, having a moment's difficulty with the desk clerk.
He didn't want a lone woman checking in without much luggage. Jeff
argued he was trying to get away from an abusive boyfriend for the night
and the clerk finally relented.
"Okay lady, but if I see any men going up to this room, I'm coming up
for a free sample. Do you understand?"
"Believe me, there will be no men in my room tonight." Jeff told him. Of
course, first thing tomorrow morning will be different, Jeff thought.
Jeff went to his room and kicked off the shoes. He dropped the purse and
bag of clothes on the bed and lay down. He felt himself begin to drift off
to sleep. Just a few minutes later, he woke up with a splitting headache
and body shakes.
"Damn it, I'm hungry, Lynn must have a low sugar problem, I need to eat
or I'll never get to sleep." Jeff called the front desk.
"Can I get something from room service?" Jeff asked.
"Sorry, we don't have room service." The clerk told him.
"Is there a place that delivers near by?" he asked.
"Nope, not after midnight and its 12:35."
"Is there any place I can get something to eat this late?" Jeff asked.
"There's a Waffle House, next door, they're open 24 hours." the clerk
told him.
"Can you pick something up for me, I'll pay you for the trip. I'm not
feeling very well." Jeff asked.
"Sorry, I can't leave the desk. Unless what you really want is me to come
up to your room and help you feel better." The clerk said with a chuckle.
Jeff slammed the phone down. When he was himself again, he would
discuss with that idiot, the proper way to talk to a lady. Resigned, Jeff
put the high heels back on and picked up the purse. He walked out of the
motel and next door to the Waffle House.
Jeff entered the small diner and sat down in a booth. His head was
pounding and he felt slightly dizzy. The waitress came over and Jeff
asked for a glass of orange juice first. He sat with his head on his hands
until she came back. When the waitress sat the juice down, Jeff lifted the
glass and drained it in one long swallow. He asked the waitress to give
him a few minutes and she left. After about five minutes, Jeff felt his
headache start to ease and the dizziness was gone.
The waitress came back and Jeff ordered a breakfast steak, rare, eggs
with wheat toast along with a large glass of milk. When she brought it
back, Jeff tried his best, but he couldn't finish the meal. Lynn's body
didn't have the capacity for that much food.
His appetite sated, Jeff drank a cup of coffee and thought about his
situation. He discovered he couldn't stand the taste of the coffee without
cream and sugar in it. He normally drank it black.
Tonight, he had been changed into a woman, raped, came within minutes
of being murdered and then 'propositioned' by the fat fool at the motel.
He was feeling better now though. He had the medallion and if it
worked, about 9:00 am this morning, he would be Jeff Carson again and
he would run the imposter out of his house and life, long before Lori got
back from her business trip. The medallion was hanging between his
newly acquired breasts.
Jeff looked through the purse he was carrying. In addition to the money
he took from his wallet, he had about $40.00 and some change in Lynn's
wallet. There was a pepper spray canister and the makeup and perfume
Lynn had applied to Jeff plus the usual things, keys, gum, tissue paper.
Jeff opened the powder compact and looked at his reflection in the small
mirror. His female face was better looking with the makeup but he didn't
care about that. He thought about wiping it off but decided to wait until
he was back in the motel room and wash his face.
Jeff paid his check and left a generous tip for the waitress. He walked
back outside and toward the motel. Halfway there, fate stepped in and
changed the rules of the game.
Jeff never heard the mugger, one minute he was walking toward the
motel, the next he was laying face down in the street, darkness falling
over his vision. It was black for a very long time.
____________________________
The patient began to wake up from her long sleep on Tuesday. It was
Thursday before she had totally regained consciousness. When she was
setting up and reacting to voices, the charge nurse made the call she had
been asked to make.
"Mrs. Carson?" the nurse asked.
"No, I'm her husband, just a minute and I'll get her." The former Lynn
Butler handed the phone to Lori Carson.
"This is Lori, how can I help you?" She said.
"This is the Rosedale Nursing Home. You wanted to know of any change
in the condition of Miss Lynn Butler. She is awake and beginning to
talk." The nurse told her.
"Oh, that's wonderful. Thank you so much. When will she be allowed
visitors?" Lori asked excitedly.
"You can see her tomorrow after 9:00 am. Just come to the nurses station
in the west wing of the complex."
"Okay, tomorrow after nine. I'll see you then. Thank you again." Lori
hung up and clapped her hands.
"Jeff, Lynn is awake, she is talking. We can go see her tomorrow!"
'Jeff' felt panic creep up 'his' spine. The bitch was alive. 'He' had hoped
'Lynn' would quietly die in 'her' sleep. Now Jeff might have to deal with
her. Maybe not though, he was Jeff now and she was Lynn, Jeff had
taken precautions.
After 'Lynn' had escaped, 'Jeff' called Lori and told her what had
happened in the house that night. Lori was told that Lynn had come to
the house claiming to be Jeff, Lori's husband and trapped in Lynn's body.
Jeff had tried to calm her down but she had run from the house in a
deranged state. Several hours later, she had been found unconscious, the
apparent victim of a mugger.
Before Lynn was found unconscious and hopefully dying, 'Jeff' had spent
hours searching for 'Lynn'. He was in a near panic that his plan was
ruined especially when he had discovered the medallion was missing. He
had seen the police report on what Lynn had on her when she was found,
it had not included the medallion. Her purse was missing so it must have
been in the purse.
"Jeff, is something wrong, you just went pale when I told you Lynn was
awake?" Lori asked.
"I'm surprised is all, I thought she wouldn't make it. It's been over three
months, you know. She may be brain damaged. Remember the doctors
warning you about that?" Jeff replied.
"Honey, I believe in miracles. I believe that she is going to be just fine. I
know you weren't happy with me getting involved in her life after what
happened that night. She is one of my best employees and I support my
people. If I hadn't taken an interest, she would have been farmed out to
some state home where she would have been raped weekly by some idiot
orderly. I would want someone to help you or me in the same
circumstances. She was obviously very troubled that night and she may
need more care. Fortunately, our health plan at work is covering
everything." Lori explained.
Lori was an attractive woman. 5' 9, with an athletic body and strong
features. She wore her brown hair short, shorter than Jeff preferred. She
like the ease with which she could get ready for any event with short
hair. Her figure was impressive enough to remove any doubt as to her
gender. Lori wasn't beautiful but she was very good looking. The kind of
good looks that stay with a woman into her later years.
Jeff held his tongue, he would be patient. Lynn may not be believed now
considering the head injury she suffered. Doing nothing is the best
choice right now.
"When are you going out to she her?" Jeff asked.
"First thing tomorrow. I want to see her right away. She's bound to be
confused and lonely. Lynn was one of my best workers and I was getting
her to open up some. She could be such a lovely girl with a little effort
on her part. I was trying to show her that before the accident." Lori
explained.
Jeff nodded. He knew Lori had been befriending him when he was still
Lynn. His unbalanced mind rationalized that Lori couldn't admit to her
husband that she was falling in love with the former Lynn.
"Lori is happier now than she was with the real Jeff," he thought. "I
have been more attentive and loving. I haven't gotten her pregnant yet,
but that is just a matter of time. It sure isn't for lack of trying."
"I'm leaving early in the morning to be there before 9am, are you coming
with me?" Lori asked. Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
"No, I have some meetings that I can't miss. After what she said to me
that night in the house, I don't think she will be happy to see me
anyway." Jeff said.
"You're probably right, I'll let her know that you don't hold any grudges
and we both want her well again. Oh Jeff, I am so happy she woke up. I
had just about given up hope." Lori said with a sigh.
"Well, hopefully, she won't still be so unhappy. Maybe this will be a new
start for her." Jeff said, but of course, he didn't mean it. The next
morning, Lori was at the nurse's station on the west wing at 8:30 am. She
just stood there until they finally let her into Lynn's room at 8:45.
Lori walked into the room and saw the person she thought was Lynn
watching TV. She had a blank look on her face, as if she was seeing
everything for the first time.
"Lynn? It's me, Lori Carson. How are you feeling?" Lori said.
"Hi, you look familiar but then most people do. I know my name is Lynn
because the nurses here have told me so. I really don't remember
anything else. Are we friends or relatives?" Lynn asked.
Lori sat down in the chair next to the bed. She was told this was a
possibility. Amnesia after a coma is not uncommon. She decided that she
would help Lynn recover or re-discover her life. Whichever it turned out
to be.
"Lynn, you used to work for me. I made sure that you got the care you
needed after you were attacked. Is there anything about that last night
you remember?" Lori asked.
"Nothing, I have been trying to recall anything of my life before two
days ago and nothing comes. I guess I have to start over. I even have to
learn how to walk again." Lynn said with a half smile, "I have been laid
up so long, my muscles have atrophied and I will need a couple of weeks
of physical therapy."
"Lynn, that's not all bad. I had all of your stuff from your apartment
placed in storage. While you're getting better, I can get you a small
apartment close to my house and it will be ready by the time you get to
go home. I made sure you were carried on sick leave until that expired
and then on your vacation until it ran out. Now you are on unpaid leave
so there is a job waiting for you when you get ready to go back to work.
Plus, there is about $1500.00 waiting for you in salary that built up while
you were asleep." Lori told Lynn
"Why did you do all of this for me? It must have cost you a lot of
money." Lynn asked.
"You were one of my best workers. You were always on time and did
your job. You and I were starting to get close before the night you were
mugged. I liked you quite a bit and you needed a friend. No one else was
stepping forward so I did. I hope that if my husband or I ever get into a
bind like you did, someone will step forward and help us." Lori
explained. When Lori said the word husband, Lynn frowned, as if the
word caused her some pain. Lori saw the reaction.
"Lynn, on the night you were attacked," Lori told her, "before you
checked into a motel, you came to my house. My husband, Jeff, spoke to
you and you were very confused, he said. He told the police and me that
you said you were really my husband and that he was an imposter. You
then ran off and we didn't know what happened to you until the police
figured out who you were. You used a fake name to check into the motel
under. It took them a week to find out where you worked and tell me that
you were in the hospital, unconscious. Whoever knocked you out took
everything you had on you. Your purse was gone and it was never found.
The police found some men's clothing in your room but they don't know
who it belongs to. I have been waiting and praying that you would wake
up and explain what was happening that night. I wish you could explain
but I am just happy you are alive."
Lynn listened carefully to Lori. She felt the same uncomfortable
sensation when Lori mentioned her husband and called him by name,
Jeff. She didn't know why the name would cause her discomfort but it
did.
"Lori, I'm sorry for coming to your house that night and causing you a
problem. I wish I knew why I did that." Lynn told her.
"Lynn, you have nothing to apologize for. What's over is over. Just get
well and come back to work soon. I have to get to the office but I will be
back to see you every morning and evening." Lori bent over and kissed
Lynn on the check and left.
"She is such a nice person," Lynn thought. "I hope I don't let her down. I
want her to be my friend."
Just then, a man in a white coat walked in the door.
"Good morning Lynn, how are you feeling today?" he asked her.
"Okay Dr. Albright, I'm not dizzy today." She said.
"Good, I felt sure it would pass. You have no physical problems other
than you need to reeducate your muscles. Are you ready to start physical
therapy?" He asked her.
"Sure, anytime, I'm ready to get out of this bed."
"Okay then, I'll write the order and you'll start today after lunch." He
patted her arm and left.
Lynn turned on the TV and began watching a talk show. She didn't know
who the people were but they had some really strange problems.
The next morning, Lori walked in at 8:00 am sharp. She had gotten
permission to come in the see Lynn early so she could be to work on
time.
"Lynn! What are you watching?" She said as she walked in the door.
"It's called Jerry Springer, they had a fight on the show yesterday and I
wanted to see if they would have another." Lynn explained.
"Honey, they have a fight everyday, it's trash, if you're going to watch
TV, watch something decent. Can we turn it off until I leave? I want to
talk to you." Lori asked.
"Okay." Lynn turned the TV off and looked at her new friend.
"Lynn, I have rented you an apartment just a block from my house. It's a
high security complex and you'll be safe there. I believe you can afford
the rent, if you can't, we'll work something out. I wanted you to know
that you have a place to stay when you get out of here. I will be very
close if you need me as well. I have it arranged to have your things
brought to your apartment the day before you are released and I will help
you get re-settled. Is there anything else you can think of that needs
doing? Sweetie, why are you crying?" Lori said.
"I can't believe you are going to so much trouble for me. I don't even
remember you and you have gone so far out of your way to help me.
Thank you Lori. If there is ever anything I can do for you, just ask."
Lynn said through her tears.
"If that time ever comes, we'll worry about it then. For now, you get
better and be more selective in what you watch. I'd rather you watch
sports than talk shows." Lori laughed.
Lori left to go to work and Lynn turned the TV back on, the facility had
cable and she found ESPN. She discovered she was keenly interested in
sports.
After two weeks of intensive physical therapy, Lynn was ready to go
home. Lori and Jeff came to pick her up and take her to her new
apartment. Jeff was very nervous. He was afraid he would trigger Lynn's
memory and cause a major problem.
"Lynn," Lori said, "This is my husband Jeff. You have met once, does he
look familiar?"
Lynn looked at her former body and felt panic spark in her chest. Her
mouth dropped open and she had a hard time breathing. It passed in just
a minute, before the nurse that Lori summoned arrived.
"I'm fine, I just lost my breath for a minute." Lynn insisted. She stuck out
her hand, "Jeff, I'm glad to meet you again. I'm told I was not very
pleasant the one time we did meet. I'm sorry if I was rude."
Jeff shook her hand gently.
"Lynn, you have nothing to apologize for. That was the past, we are
living in the present. I have forgotten it, please do the same." Jeff prayed
she would never remember the evening. Jeff wasn't sure how he was
standing up right now. He was sure she was going to announce to the
world that he was an imposter. Lori and he were not as happy as he had
thought they would be. He was working on that though.
"Gladly, that part of my life may be better forgotten." Lynn said.
"I agree," Jeff said.
The three friends loaded what little baggage Lynn had and headed for her
new home. Jeff dropped the girls off and headed to his business. He was
sweating buckets when they got out of the car and calmed down only
when he was alone.
"Thank God, I made it through that." He thought. "She really doesn't
know who she is or who I really am. I may get away with this yet."
Lori and Lynn spent the morning unpacking Lynn's clothes and dishes.
They took a break at lunchtime and then finished by 3:00pm.
"I had hoped you would have a diary that you had kept and you could
read to help you remember your life. I didn't see one, did you?" Lori
asked when they were done unpacking.
"No, nothing like that. I seemed to have like to read romance novels
though. One good thing about amnesia, I get to read all my books again
and not know how they end." Lynn joked. Lori laughed with her.
Unknown to them both, Jeff had stolen the diary when he helped Lori
pack up Lynn's stuff.
"Now we need to get your laundry clean." Lori said. "Your clothes have
been boxed up for almost four months. They smell a little musty. You're
lucky there was an apartment with a washer/dryer available. Let me
show you how to run the machines, then, tomorrow we go shopping!"
"For what?" Lynn asked.
"You need some new clothes and you need your hair done, it's a mess.
It's not your fault, you've been asleep for more than three months. We'll
get it all done right though, don't worry." Lori assured her.
"Lori, how can I thank you for everything you have done? It's so nice
having a friend like you." Lynn had tears in her eyes. The two women
hugged and then Lynn wiped her eyes.
The next morning, Lori picked Lynn up and they went to Lori's favorite
salon. Lori told Lynn that she was getting the works and it was free. Lori
had received a two for one certificate and she was letting Lynn get her
hair and nails and everything else done at no charge.
"Lori, no, I won't accept it. I'll pay half but not zero. If I don't pay my
share, I won't go in." Lynn stated.
"Okay, you pay half, but I'm buying lunch and that is not open for
discussion."
Lynn agreed and the two young women entered the shop. For the next
four hours, Lynn was shampooed, conditioned, styled, wrapped, waxed,
made up and manicured. When it was all over, she stood in front of a
mirror, staring in shock at the lovely woman who stared back. Her hair
had been lightened, cut and styled. Her face was expertly made up and
she had been given instructions on how to duplicate the effect. She had
received a manicure and a pedicure. Her legs and bikini line had been
waxed. That she didn't exactly appreciate, it hurt too much.
"Lynn, I always knew you could be beautiful. The girls here have proved
it. I am so glad I brought you here." Lori felt as proud as she ever had.
"I don't believe it," Lynn said, "it's really me though. I..."
Lori laughed and hugged her friend. They paid the bill and went to
lunch. After lunch, Lori took Lynn to the mall for some shopping. They
hit every store and then went to another mall. Finally they headed back
to Lynn's apartment.
Lynn tried on the outfits she had bought and matched some things to the
clothes she already had. While Lynn was trying on new clothes, they
were washing her old wardrobe. Lori was sorting some things when she
made a discovery.
"Lynn, what's this?" Lori held up a cheap looking medallion on a copper
chain. It had a figure on one side of a fairy or angel holding a wand of
some sort.
"I don't know, where did you get it?" She asked.
"It was in the pocket of this jacket, the one you were wearing the night of
the attack." Lori said.
"I don't remember it but a great many things I don't remember. It's
certainly cheap looking. I can't imagine wearing such a thing. I say throw
it out." Lynn told Lori.
"I would," Lori said, "you may have picked it up and not realized it. Who
knows, it's junk." Lori tossed it at the trashcan.
"Lori, is there a gym or a workout place near here I could use? I really
enjoyed how I felt after my physical therapy. I want to start working out
on a regular basis."
"I have just the thing you need Lynn," Lori told her. "Jeff has a full
membership to a great 24 hour workout place just up the road between
your apartment and my house. He hasn't gone near it in almost three
months. The membership is transferable so I can give it to you. That way
someone will get some use out of it. It's all paid up for the next 18
months."
Three days later, Lynn returned to work. She had to be completely
retrained in her job but she learned quick and in a matter of days she was
performing at her pre-accident level and then she went beyond that. Two
weeks later, Lynn went to see Lori in her office.
"Lori, I am bored to tears with my job. I have to have something more to
do than file and type. Are there any other positions open I could apply
for?" Lynn asked.
"None that you qualify for Lynn, you would need a degree. I agree you
are capable of doing more. Let me see what I can do." Lori told her.
Lynn was given a little more responsibility and took it in stride. She was
assigned more tasks and she found work more interesting.
Lynn was seeing Dr. Albright weekly as a follow up to her long coma.
They talked about her transition back into the real world and her
emotions. Lynn told Dr. Albright that she most comfortable around Lori
but she was very nervous around Jeff. She wasn't scared of men; no one
else caused this feeling.
"Lynn, has your memory returned at all?" Dr. Albright asked.
"No, I can't recall a thing about my life before the attack. I wish I could.
It's been two months, do you think I'll ever get it back?" Lynn asked him.
"At this point in time, I would say no," Dr. Albright said, "but who really
knows. Five years from now you could wake up and recall everything, it
could happen tomorrow or never. I suggest you not worry about it. You
have a life, friends and a job. If you memory returns it's not going to tell
you anything about yourself you don't already know. I understand your
concern Lynn, but it's really not a matter I would be very worried about."
"You're probably right Dr. Albright, I just have a feeling there is
something wrong that I need to set right. Lynn explained.
"That is very common in cases of amnesia. The victim believes they are
supposed to do something that they have forgotten. Don't let it worry
you. Lynn, you have become a very pretty young woman. Your friend
Lori has helped you quite a bit. I wish I had a friend as caring as her."
Dr. Albright said.
Lynn blushed and looked off to the side. She knew she was more
attractive than before the attack. Her workouts every other night had
helped firm her body up and added definition to her figure. She had been
approached by several men for dates but had politely turned them down.
"Something happened the other day that upset me." Lynn told him, "I
was sitting at home reading and listening to the radio and a song came
on. I stopped reading to listen to it and I broke down into tears. I had to
call the station and ask them the name of the song. It was called "I Don't
Want to Miss a Thing" by the group Areosmith. The DJ said it was a big
hit and it was a love theme in a science fiction movie last year. I don't
remember the movie but hearing the song really affected me."
"Music is a strong memory key for some people. You use to hear people
say they would always remember where they were the day Kennedy was
shot. That's because it was so memorable. A hit song gets played until
people get tired of hearing it. But if it is tied to a key event, it will trigger
memories of that event when you hear it even years later. That's why
couples call certain songs 'their songs'. They recall a special event or
time in their lives together and the song reminds them of the event.
When a young man proposes to you, Lynn, if a song is playing, that will
be a song you remember forever. That song affected you deeply because
it has special significance to your former life. It may be a key to your
memory. You may want to unlock that door and maybe you don't. You
cried when you heard the song. The memory could be painful as well as
happy."
"You may be right Dr. Albright. As you said, I have a life, job and good
friends. My past is really just my past. There is something else though."
"Dr. Albright," Lynn said, "Lori is my best friend but her husband Jeff
scares me for some reason. He is always very nice but I get frightened
whenever he is around. I think he knows he scares me from the way he
looks at me."
"On the night of the attack Lynn," Dr. Albright said, "you spoke to Jeff
in a very strange manner. You came to his house and claimed to be Jeff,
and thought he was you. You ran off when Jeff was trying to call Lori,
who was out of town. Jeff spent the evening looking for you since he
knew you had taken a cab to his house. Jeff feels very guilty because he
did not call the police when you ran off. He was concerned they might
mistreat you if they had to detain you. He wanted to help you. Perhaps if
you, Lori and Jeff could attend a session together, we might work this
out."
"I'm not sure I can do that, Doctor." Lynn said.
"Lynn", Dr. Albright said, "I feel this is very important, I am going to set
this up for as soon as possible. I will be here and so will Lori. Nothing
will happen to you. It could help you get your memory back if we can
determine why you fear Jeff Carson so much. You memory loss is not
due to physical trauma. You have no brain damage we can detect. An
event triggered the amnesia, compounded by the attack."
Lynn felt uneasy agreeing but the chance to regain her memory was
worth it to her. Dr. Albright called Lori and she said they could both be
there for a session on the day after tomorrow.
"It's all set Lynn, the day after tomorrow, 2:00pm. Now I want you to
relax and not over think this session. Get a good night sleep and don't
talk to Lori or Jeff before hand. I explained that to Lori just now. I want
fresh responses to my questions. Okay?" Dr. Albright was smiling and
Lynn felt better about it already.
"Okay Dr. Albright. I'll try it. I want to be Jeff's friend too." Lynn said.
"Good, now have you dated anyone since you woke up?" Dr. Albright
asked.
"No, I've been asked out but I haven't accepted." Lynn told him.
"Why not?"
"I don't know, I feel uncomfortable about dating for some reason. I don't
have any problems working with men or talking to men but the idea of
dating seems. . . wrong. It's almost the same feeling I get around Jeff
Carson but not nearly as intense." Lynn explained.
"Hmm, I wonder if there is a connection?" Dr. Albright asked, "Lynn,
don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. We'll discuss this
further after we try and clear the air between you and Jeff."
"Okay, doctor. I feel better, I guess just talking about it really does help.
I'll see you the day after tomorrow at 2:00 pm." Lynn stood to leave.
"Okay Lynn. See you then." Dr. Albright rose and walked her to the
door.
Two days later, Lynn showed up for her session and met Jeff and Lori in
the outer office. Lynn felt the strange panic start again and fought it
down. Fortunately they were all taken into the doctor's office right away.
Lynn was directed to a chair on the left side of the room and Jeff was set
down in a chair across the room from her. Lori and the doctor were in the
middle.
"Jeff," Dr. Albright began, "Lynn has told me that she is afraid of you.
She is very upset whenever she sees you in person. Can you think of any
reason that may be?"
"None at all, Dr. Albright, we never met until the night she was attacked.
Since she woke up, I have had very little contact with her. Lynn, I really
would like to be your friend too." Jeff said, looking at Lynn
"Lynn, have you been able to think of a reason that seeing Jeff upsets
you?" Dr. Albright asked.
Lynn shook her head no. She was staring at her lap and her hands were
clenched into fists.
"I see Jeff here now and it seems so silly to be afraid of him. I know that
Lori is in love with him and she wouldn't be if Jeff were anyone to be
afraid of." Lynn said.
"Lynn," Lori said, touching her friend on her arm, "I have lived with and
loved Jeff for over 8 years now. He is the best man I know. I joke about
him at work but none of what I say is serious. I trust him with my life,
you can too."
Jeff stood up and walked over to Lynn He stopped a few feet away.
"Lynn," Dr. Albright said, "this may seem a little like grade school but I
spoke to Jeff earlier about this. I would like you two to give each other a
hug, if you are comfortable with it. It could be very cathartic."
Lynn stiffened at the thought of touching Jeff. Then she realized that
Lori would not lie to her. It took every ounce of will she had but Lynn
stood up and approached Jeff. Jeff spread his arms slightly and Lynn
stepped into them, opening her arms up as well. They embraced and
Lynn felt a weight lift off of her shoulders. Jeff was holding her and she
was all right. They separated and Lynn felt tears on her face. Lori
stepped up and took Lynn in her arms and they hugged each other. Lynn
began crying, her shoulders racked with sobs. Jeff moved back in and
held both women in his large arms. They stood there for several minutes
until Lynn has stopped crying. Lori's face was wet with tears too. The
three people resumed their seats.
"Lynn, this went a lot farther than I had imagined for one session. How
do
you feel right now." Dr. Albright asked.
Lynn was still wiping her eyes, she was concerned about how her face
must look now.
"I feel much better than when I came in here Doctor," Lynn said, "I did
not want to be here. I would not have stayed much longer if Lori had not
spoken to me as she did. I'm not sure why, but I have an infinite amount
of trust in Lori. When Jeff hugged me, I felt a weight leave my
shoulders. I don't remember anything more about my past life but that
now seems less important."
"Lynn, that is a major step forward. Even if you knew the past, there is
nothing you could do to change it. You may be a different person than
you were then, but that is the past, enjoy who you are now." Dr. Albright
said.
After a few more questions, all four of them stood up and they filed out
of the room. Lynn was just in front of Dr. Albright as they left, she
turned and hugged him. He seemed startled at first but he hugged her
back then they separated.
"Thank you Dr. Albright, I can see light at the end of the tunnel now."
Lynn said.
"You're very welcome dear, helping people is why I do this." he said.
"Remember though, I want to see you every week for awhile longer, I'll
see you next Tuesday at 6:00pm."
"Okay Dr. Albright, uh, are you married?" Lynn asked with her face
turning beet red.
"Married, with kids and grandkids, Lynn, but thank you for asking." he
said with a smile.
On the drive home, Jeff was humming to himself. Lori noticed he was
doing that more and more lately. It wasn't overly annoying but he didn't
seem to hear her when he was humming. It was just one of several new
habits she was becoming aware of.
Jeff was very pleased with the events of the day. He believed that they
had succeeded in burying Lynn's memories of being Jeff so deep she
would never regain them. Jeff looked forward to the day when Lynn was
married and pregnant. He saw her heading that way. She was already
better looking than he had ever been and he wouldn't mind another taste
of her again. Awake and moving this time. He knew he couldn't risk it
though. It might be the one thing that would trigger her memories.
Though even if she did recall who she was, without the medallion, she
would still be a woman for the rest of her life and he would still be
Jeff.
Two days later, Lynn accepted a date from a man at work. He was
named Harry Dalton and he was the office network manager. He
oversaw the proper running of the office computer system. Harry bore a
close resemblance to Jeff Carson although Lynn didn't consciously
notice it. It was not lost on Lori, how much Harry looked like Jeff
though.
Harry had been briefed by Lori that Lynn was recovering from a coma
and amnesia and she might require delicate handling. Lynn and Harry
dated 4 times before Harry kissed her. That first kiss was chaste and
sweet to Lynn. She felt like a virgin, she had no memory of having sex
before. It would be a new experience for her.
Lynn and Harry dated for the next two months. Each date their kissing
became a little more heated and involved. One night the entire date was
dinner and kissing. Lynn didn't mind nor did Harry. They sat in the car
and kissed for a long while and then Lynn suggested she needed to go
inside. Harry escorted her to her apartment door where they kissed some
more. During a two minute kiss, Lynn's neighbor, Mrs. Ritter, opened
her door to let her dog out. The sound of the door opening and the shaft
of light surprised the young couple. Lynn, Harry and Mrs. Ritter
laughed. Mrs. Ritter shut her door and wished Mr. Ritter would kiss her
like that.
Lynn thanked Harry for a lovely evening and then she stepped inside her
apartment.
"Why didn't I ask him in?" she wondered to herself. She intended to, all
night long she was practicing what she was going to say at the exact
moment Mrs. Ritter opened her door. Lynn undressed and cleaned her
makeup off and lay down. She was aroused and frustrated. This was to
have been the night. What stopped her? Lynn tossed and turned for over
an hour and finally she did something she had never done before, not
since she woke up from her coma anyway. She satisfied her own
cravings. When she was done, she felt relaxed and she went to sleep. She
woke up about 3:00am, tense, excited and upset. She was grateful she
had a session with Dr. Albright that coming afternoon, so she could
discuss her dream with him. Lynn attempted to get back to sleep but
found she couldn't. She lay awake until her alarm went off at 6:00am.
Somehow Lynn got through work that day. Finally it was time to see Dr.
Albright.
"Lynn, sit down, you look tired, are you sick? Would you like to do this
another day?" Dr. Albright asked.
Lynn shook her head. She was tired and sure her face showed it but she
was dressed in her normal impeccable manner. Since Lynn had seen
herself in the mirror at the salon the first week after she woke up, her
appearance was very important to her. She took great pains to look as
nice as possible at all times. Today was no exception. She was dressed in
a navy blue business suit with a short pleated skirt. She had on black
pumps with 2 inch heels and nude panty hose. Her makeup was subtle
and effective. Dr. Albright had noted the improvement in his patient's
appearance in the file. It was a very good sign, a healthy expression of
her own feeling of self worth.
"Dr. Albright, I had a very disturbing dream last night and I got very
little sleep. I am still quite upset about it." Lynn said.
"Did something lead up to the dream, an event or situation that may have
triggered it?" Dr. Albright asked.
"I had a date with Harry last night. I had intended to ask him in and see
where things would go, if he was interested." Lynn was blushing and
playing with something in her lap.
"What happened, did Harry turn you down?"
"No, at the last second, we were startled by a neighbor letting her dog out
and then I said goodnight and Harry left. I wanted to ask him in but I
didn't, I still don't know why not." Lynn was distraught.
"What happened after Harry left?"
"I went to bed and couldn't sleep, I was so, so...frustrated with myself
and my body was making demands I couldn't answer. I did something
that I have not done since I came out of my coma, then I could sleep."
Lynn blushed even redder at her admission.
"Lynn, masturbating is not wrong, it is a very suitable way to relieve that
type of stress and frustration. It helped you get to sleep, didn't it?" Dr.
Albright asked.
"Yes, it did, but I felt guilty about it and I really wanted Harry to satisfy
me. Then I had the dream. When I woke up from it, I was even more
aroused and nothing could help me get back to sleep. I tried but it wasn't
enough." Lynn had a stray tear running down her check.
"What was the dream?" Dr. Albright asked her.
"I was in bed making love to Lori Carson, my best friend. I wasn't
myself though, I was her husband, Jeff Carson." Lynn told him, very
quietly.
"Have you ever had sexual feelings for Lori before?" He asked her.
"No, not that I remember anyway. Why did dream that I was a man?
Why not dream that I was making love to her as a woman?" Lynn asked.
"Maybe you realize that Lori is not attracted to women and you would
have to be a man and her husband to make love to her." Dr. Albright
reasoned, "Lynn, I know this is upsetting to you but I don't want you to
get too worried about it. Lori is your best friend. She has helped you
more than anyone else has. I think what we are seeing here is a simple
case of transference. It's very common between patients and their
doctors, especially psychiatrists. The patient transfers the love they have
to the doctor when it really is gratitude. Lori has been there for you for a
long time, you are not really in love with her, not in the sense of your
dream. You love Lori in a deep way but you really wanted to make love
to Harry, when that was denied to you, your mind sought a replacement."
"If I make love to Harry, will that straighten me out?" Lynn asked.
"Uh, Lynn," Dr. Albright said, "I can't prescribe having sex as a cure for
anything except virginity. You need to decide for yourself what you want
to have happen between Harry and you. If you and Harry do make love,
you should use all reasonable precautions. I won't tell you that should do
it but neither will I tell you not to."
"Am I crazy, Dr. Albright?" Lynn asked.
"I don't like that word, and no, you are a normal, healthy young woman
with normal desires. Are you going to see Harry again?" He asked
"Tonight, he has tickets to the hockey game." Lynn answered.
"You must really like Harry to go to a hockey game." Dr. Albright said.
"I asked him to take me. I love hockey and baseball. Is that wrong?"
Lynn asked, worry creasing her brow.
"No, not at all, it's just not common for women to enjoy sports that
much. Enjoy yourself, that's what's important. May I ask what that is you
are playing with there?"
Lynn handed the chain to Dr. Albrigh
