Altered Fates: The Things We Do For Friends
part 1 of 5
By Morpheus
I stood in the school bathroom with my half soapy hands underneath the
water faucet, grimacing as I rinsed them off. Then pausing for a second, I
looked up and into the mirror that was hung on the wall in front of me. The
same familiar 14 year old boy that I always saw looked back at me with a
sour expression. His messy brown hair was in need of a cut and his nose
still had blood dripping from it.
"Shit." I growled, wiping the blood from my nose and hoping that it
wouldn't bleed for much longer. Then after I finished rinsing my hands
off, I quickly ran my fingers through my hair in a half hearted attempt to
straighten it out.
"Man Rob," the boy standing next to me said, "you really look like shit."
"Shut up." I told my best friend Toby as I grabbed a wad of toilet paper
and held it up to my nose. "I'm not in the mood."
Toby just grinned, looking rather cocky. "Common, I just saved your life.
You owe me."
I groaned and shook my head. Toby was definitely exaggerating about saving
my life but he was right about one thing. I owed him. When those two guys
had jumped me just a little awhile ago because I'd called one of them a dumb
ass, I'd fought back the best I could but it hadn't been enough. Not when it
was two against one. But then Toby had shown up and helped me out, getting
those ass holes to leave me alone. At least for the moment. Yes, I owed
Toby and knew that he wasn't going to let me forget it either.
For a moment I just stood there staring at Toby. He was the same age as me
and about the same height. His hair was a darker shade of brown than my own
and he had a knack for finding trouble that had often gotten me grounded.
But even though my folks called him a bad influence and in spite of the fact
that he sometimes got me in trouble, Toby had always been my best friend and
still was.
"We'd better get to class." I finally mumbled, pulling the toilet paper
away tentatively and seeing that it was marked with red, "Especially you.
If you skip any more days they're probably gonna flunk you."
Toby shrugged as we left the bathroom. "Not like I care. The only reason I
came in today was cuz I was bored."
I looked at Toby for a moment and frowned. He'd skipped so many classes
over the last couple weeks that they were almost sure to flunk him. I hadn't
even been surprised that he wasn't at school the day before. But still, I
didn't bother to say anything more about it as we continued down the hall
towards class. If his own mom didn't care about his skipping so much I sure
wasn't going to.
Then just as we got to class, Toby grinned and asked. "You gonna make it
to the party at my house tonight?"
I thought about it for a moment, thinking about how lucky Toby was. His
mom was so cool. I mean, mine would never let me have a party like that at
my house much less leave me home alone. But Toby's mom.....she went off on
vacation for a couple weeks and let Toby stay home by himself. She wasn't
even gonna be back for about a week, so Toby could have all the fun that he
wanted. Or do anything he wanted. That was one of the things about Toby
that made me envy him.
"If I can get out." I sighed, knowing that it might be difficult to talk my
folks into it. Fortunately though, since they didn't know that Toby was
alone at his house they wouldn't mind my going over there for awhile. Just
as long as I didn't mention anything about it that was. "Sure." I told Toby
with a grin, "I'll be there."
"Cool." Toby grinned back, then added. "And I know where my mom keeps the
booze so we can really have a blast." With that we both started laughing as
we went into the classroom.
--------------------
I felt a little nervous as I stared across the dinner table at my dad, then
quickly glanced towards my mom. Dad continued to eat his dinner with his
typical single mindedness, acting almost as if the rest of us weren't even
at the table while my mom and 9 year old kid sister Sara talked about how
Sara's day was at school. It was a pretty normal dinner for my household.
However, I had other things to focus on instead of eating at the moment,
such as what I wanted to ask my folks.
"Um...." I looked at dad and then mom again, "I was planning on going over
to Toby's house for awhile and was wondering if I could stay the night
there." Dad looked up from his plate for a moment and I blushed, quickly
adding, "I can go to school with him tomorrow."
"I don't know." My mom sighed, looking at me thoughtfully. "What did his
mother say?"
"She doesn't mind." I quickly added, knowing that it was true. Toby's mom
might not have known that I was coming over, but I did know that she
wouldn't mind even if she did. She'd once told me that I was welcome over
there anytime that I wanted.
My mom frowned, then said, "I know you've been friends with him for a long
time, but I still think Toby's a bad example for you."
Then dad surprised me by laughing, making me realize that he had turned his
attention away from his dinner plate, at least for the moment. "Well," he
said with a grin, "maybe Rob here is a good example for Toby then."
I grinned at that while mom shook her head. "I guess it's all right." she
said. "Just make sure that you bring your books and that you're not late to
school in the morning."
"O.K." I answered, already turning back to my dinner though my mind was on
going over to Toby's.
Almost as soon as I'd finished eating, I ran to my room and grabbed my book
back, making sure to throw in not only my school books, but some extra
clothes and my toothbrush as well. "It's time to Par-teee." I laughed to
myself as I grabbed my bag and ran out of the house, calling out a loud,
"See ya tomorrow." to my family as I went rushed out the door.
It didn't take me very long to reach Toby's house since he only lived a
couple blocks away. As soon as I got there, I grinned broadly and pushed the
door-bell, waiting only a moment before Toby opened it up and gestured for
me to come inside.
"Hey man." Toby greeted me with a smile, "Glad you could make it."
"So where is everyone?" I asked, looking around and not seeing anyone but
Toby and myself. "Don't tell me I'm early." I joked.
"Fraid not." Toby sighed, sounding rather disappointed. I looked at him
curiously and Toby continued, "I only called a couple others and they
couldn't make it. Afraid it's just us buddy."
"Too bad." I sighed, feeling a little disappointed myself. "Then I guess I
told my folks that I was staying the night for nothing."
"Naw." Toby grinned, "We can have fun some fun anyway."
With that, we went to the living room and I sat down while Toby put a tape
into the VCR. It was that new Mummy movie with Brendan Frasier. I'd seen
it once before though my folks would probably flip out if they knew I had.
They were a little overprotective about me seeing violent movies and stuff
but I really I don't know why.
After we'd watched about half the movie, I glanced over at Toby and noticed
the odd worried look on his face. He'd been getting it all through the movie
and I'd even caught him glancing nervously at me a few times, though I
couldn't figure out why. At first I'd just assumed that I had my zipper
undone or something, but when I realized that there didn't seem to be
anything wrong with me I started to get even more curious about it.
Finally I asked Toby, "What's wrong?"
For several moments, Toby just looked at me with a frown, still looking
rather worried. Then he finally answered, "I'm in trouble man." With that,
Toby got up and walked over to one of the book shelves and pulled a piece of
paper off and brought it over to me. "The principal wanted me to give this
note to my mom."
I read the note but wasn't too surprised by what it said. "Mrs. Clark..."
it began, then went on to describe Toby's missing too much school and
getting into fights. Finally it ended with a request for her and Toby to
meet with Mr. Brice , the school principal tomorrow, or Toby was going to
"face immediate suspension."
"Ouch." I said when I'd finished reading it. I glanced up at Toby who was
nodding.
"Yeah." He said quietly, "Now that's gonna piss mom off. And they've
called to talk to her three times since I got home today."
Shaking my head, I repeated my earlier statement. "Ouch."
"No fucking kidding." Toby practically snarled, surprising me with his
reaction. "They want mom there tomorrow morning or I'm shit out of luck.
But that's not all...." Toby paused, looking extremely worried again. "If
she doesn't show up, they're gonna want to know why. And if they find out
that she went off on vacation and left me home alone..." Toby gulped
audibly.
"And....?" I gestured for Toby to finish. I knew that if the school found
out that there'd be a bit of trouble, but I still couldn't see what his
point was. He seemed to be making such a big deal out of it.
"Then they're gonna probably throw my mom in jail and put me into juvie
hall." Toby snapped back. "Or a foster home." Then he paused again with a
sick look on his face, "Or worse. They might make me live with my dad, and
you know what kind of a fucking asshole he is."
I nodded dumbly, staring at Toby and beginning to appreciate the kind of
trouble he was in. "Shit." I just continued to stare at Toby for a moment
while he went off onto his little rant about how much he hated his dad. The
same guy that used to hit him when he was just a kid, before his folks got
divorced. "What are you gonna do?" I finally asked Toby, wondering if maybe
I could have him stay over at my place and have my folks cover for him.
Somehow though, I really didn't think that would work.
Toby nodded and calmed down. He sat down on the couch and looked at me for
a moment before answering. "I do have an idea. But..." Toby stopped and
looked down at his hands in embarrassment. "I need your help man." he
finally said, looking back at me. "I really need your help."
"What can I do?" I asked doubtfully. I frowned, really feeling sorry for my
friend but knowing that there wasn't anything I could do.
For several minutes Toby just remained silent, but finally he got up and
left the living room, coming back a short while later with something in his
hand. I frowned as Toby sat back down on the couch and held out what he'd
brought with him. It was some sort of cheap looking necklace and I couldn't
help but wondering what the hell was going on in Toby's head. If he was in
trouble, why was he running around with some kids fake jewelry.
"So?" I snorted, tossing the necklace back at Toby. "What's that got to do
with anything?"
At that, Toby smiled slightly. "It's magic." he answered. I snorted and
then told him exactly what I thought of that. "No. Really." He told me,
sounding almost sincere. "I...um...saw some girls using it at the park last
week when I was ditching school. I was...um...well, they didn't notice me
and I heard them talking about it and what it could do. At first I thought
that they were just playing some sort of game or something, but then I
actually saw them use it." I nodded, wondering where Toby's make believe
story was leading, or more specifically, what the point was for this joke.
"Well....while they were distracted, I..." Toby coughed and looked slightly
embarrassed, "I...borrowed it."
"And pigs fly." I said in disbelief. "So what's really going on?"
"No," Toby protested, clutching the necklace tightly in his hands, "I'm
serious man. Really serious." Then almost to my surprise, Toby actually
did look sincere. Usually he's not that great an actor, but at the moment
he almost had me ready to believe him. Almost.
Deciding to humor Toby for the moment, I asked, "So, what does this magic
necklace do." I'm sure that he didn't miss the sarcasm in my voice.
"It changes people." Toby said quietly. He stood up and started pacing
around the living room and I started to get dizzy watching him. "It can
change people into other people. And it works too. I've only used it once.
Yesterday. That's why I wasn't at school. I turned into a copy of one of
the guys my mom used to date and spent all day like that. It's
unbelievable."
Toby stared at me with an intensity in his eyes that almost made me
believe. His eyes, his face, even his voice. Everything about him seemed to
scream that he was telling me the truth, but how could he be? Magic didn't
exist. Or did it?
Obviously seeing my doubt, Toby said, "I can prove it. Here, give me your
jacket." I hesitated for a moment and then shrugged before handing it over.
"Thanks." I watched with some curiosity as Toby put the necklace on and
then held my jacket up against it. When I tried to ask him what he thought
he was doing, Toby just grinned at me and told me to watch.
For what seemed like a long time I just stared at Toby, not sure exactly
what he wanted me to see. He just sat there with a goofy grin on his face.
As the minutes ticked past, I grew more and more certain that he was playing
one of his jokes on me. At least until I realized that something wasn't
quite right. I stared intently at Toby, curious about what it was that
struck me wrong. And then it dawned on me. His hair didn't look quite the
same. In fact, his whole face seemed somewhat off.
"Toby?" I asked hesitantly, "What's happening?"
"I told you." Toby answered, surprising me since his voice didn't sound
right either. He sounded sort of like Toby, but sort of not. I was beginning
to get spooked by the whole thing.
Chills were running up and down my spine as I stared at him, watching him
as he seemed to change even more before my eyes. Soon I could no longer
deny that Toby had indeed changed. His features no longer looked like those
of my best friend, but much to my surprise, more like my own. Then it
seemed to have stopped and all I could do was stare open mouthed at the
person sitting in the spot Toby had been. He was dressed all in Toby's
clothes, but his face....it was my face. The same one I saw in the mirror.
"Toby?" I whispered in stunned disbelief.
"Pretty cool, huh?" Toby answered, standing up so that I could get a better
look at him. "This is so cool." He held his hands up and stared at them
for a moment then broke into a broad grin. "I told you so." Then before I
could answer, or even think about answering, Toby ran over to the mirror
that was hanging on the wall and stared at himself.
"Wow." I finally managed to gasp out. I walked over to where Toby was
standing and looked him square in the face. It was so spooky. Then we both
stared at the mirror at the same time and my shivers grew even more
pronounced. "It's like having a twin or something."
My other reflection nodded agreement from the mirror. "So bro," Toby asked,
" you believe me now?" I just nodded dumbly. How could I not?
For several minutes I just stared at Toby in amazement. Then finally, I
admitted aloud. "It's real." I took a deep breath before continuing, "But
what's this all about?"
Toby frowned and looked down at the floor again, which was really odd since
it was with my face. I stared at him for a moment, waiting for him to tell
me what was going on, and then he did. "I need your help." Toby admitted.
"To keep them from finding out about my mom. God, I can't get sent to my
dad's." He shuddered at that.
"Help doing what?" I asked, feeling rather confused.
Then Toby looked me in the eyes for a moment and gave me a weak smile. "My
mom has to be at that meeting with Brice tomorrow or I'm finished."
I stared at Toby for a moment, wondering where he was going. Then my eyes
fell on the medallion that was still around his neck and widened as
realization struck me. "Oh no." I said, stepping backwards, "You can't be
thinking something like that."
"Look man..." Toby practically begged, "My mom HAS to be there, and I have
to be there with her. I need your help. You have to turn into my mom and go
to the meeting. You have to."
"No way." I snapped, "I am NOT going to turn into a girl. Besides," I
smiled faintly as I added, "I have to be in class at that time."
"Yeah," Toby argued, "but you can afford to miss one day. If you don't
show up for the first couple periods, then no one's gonna say anything.
Come on man, you have to do it."
I crossed my arms and stared at Toby, once again refusing. "For get it!"
How could he expect me to do something like that? To turn into a girl,
especially his mom? The idea seemed....twisted. Wrong.
Toby stared at me for a moment, looking disappointed. Then he started to
grin. "I need you man." Toby paused, then continued, "Besides. You owe
me."
Grimacing, I said, "That's not fair."
"So sue me." Toby grinned back. "You owe me man."
For several long minutes I just stared at Toby, trying to make some sense
of this. Trying to come to a decision. What he wanted me to do was too
damn weird. I couldn't do something like that. No way. Then I remembered
that I did owe him. But more than that, he was my friend. My best friend.
And friends helped each other when they needed it, no matter what.
Finally I looked away from Toby and stared at my own feet, reluctantly
saying. "Alright. I'll do it." Toby grinned triumphantly while I just felt
resigned. "What do I have to do?"
"Just a minute." Toby told me a little more quietly, no longer grinning.
With that he hurried out of the room and came back holding a piece of cloth
in his hands. It wasn't until he held it out that I realized that it was a
shirt. "It's my mom's." Toby explained as he set it down and then began to
take off the medallion. "Here, put this on."
I accepted the medallion from Toby and looked at it for a moment, though I
made no move to put it around my neck. "Right now?" I asked, frowning as I
did so.
"Why not?" Toby asked. "That way you'll have a little time to get used to
it so you don't fuck up at the meeting."
I groaned at that, definitely not liking the idea but agreeing that Toby
had a point. Without another word I slipped the necklace over my head and
then looked at Toby for directions. Toby didn't say anything either as he
picked up the shirt and held it up to the necklace. As soon as the shirt
touched I could swear that I felt a faint tingle shoot through my body. But
whether it was the medallion or just my imagination I didn't know.
At first I didn't notice any changes at all and was beginning to doubt that
it was working. Then Toby started chuckling. After I demanded to know what
was so funny, he just told me to look into a mirror. I frowned but did as
he said, walking over to the mirror that hung on the wall. For a moment I
just stared at my face, noticing that there were a few changes already. The
most obvious being that my hair had grown at least two inches longer.
"Holy shit." I whispered, amazed to actually see it working on me. Then I
gulped, realizing that the hair was just the first thing that was going to
change. For a moment I was tempted to grab at the medallion and call the
whole thing off. To demand that Toby stop the change. But I knew that I
couldn't do that. I'd already told Toby that I was going to help him, and I
was. "Wow." I said, unable to turn away from the mirror.
"Pretty cool, isn't it?" Toby asked. I just nodded in response, not
bothering to look away from my reflection.
I was almost in awe as I continued to stare into the mirror, seeing my own
face slowly changing right before my very eyes. My own bluish gray eyes
turned to a soft gold speckled brown. My lips seemed to swell up slightly,
almost as if stung by a bee. But the changes in my face weren't the only
ones that I noticed. I finally looked away from the mirror, aware of the
odd way my shirt felt against my chest. Sort of tight.
"Wow." I said in amazement, hearing a higher pitched voice than normal. I
nervously touched one of the bumps that was pushing against my shirt then
almost immediately grabbed down the front of my pants. My equipment was
still there though just barely. "God my clothes are uncomfortable." I told
Toby, shifting uncomfortably as they pulled too tight in places.
"Oh shit." Toby said, his own eyes wide with amazement. Then he shook his
head, saying, "Why don't you take your clothes off while I go get some of my
mom's?"
"I'm not getting undressed in front of you." I snapped, wincing almost in
pain at the way my shirt and pants were pinching me. Grimacing, I said,
"I'll take care of it myself." Then I rushed, or at least tried to towards
where I knew the master bedroom was.
As soon as I was inside, I closed the door and struggled to get out of my
clothes. As my shirt came off I sighed in relief, even more so when I'd
pulled off my constricting pants and underwear. For a moment I just stared
at my crotch in amazement. My balls were almost gone entirely. All that was
left was an empty sack. And my cock was absolutely tiny and getting smaller
by the moment.
"Holy shit." I whispered to myself, letting out a slight whistle.
After a moment, I turned my eyes to the rest of my body. I wasn't surprised
to see that the rest of me had changed as well. The hair that I'd been
growing on my arms and legs was all gone. My hips felt big and of course
there were the...tits on my chest. I gulped at those as I nervously touched
them, verifying that they were indeed real. They seemed so huge on me and as
much as I disliked having them myself, I had to admit that they were kind of
cool to look at, even if they were sagging a little.
"I can't believe this." I muttered to myself, noticing the large bathrobe
hanging from the door knob of the bedroom's private bathroom.
I quickly grabbed the robe and threw on, blushing badly as I did so. I felt
more embarrassed than I'd ever felt before in my life. Then I paused,
hesitating only for a moment before walking into the bathroom and staring at
myself once again in a mirror. I couldn't help but gasping, even though I'd
already known what to expect. My hair had continued to grow longer and was
down to my shoulder blades and a darker brown than I normally had. But my
face was what really caught my attention. My eye brows had changed shape
completely, going from their normal bushy to sort of arched and feminine.
And my face....I looked older. Much older. I looked at least thirty.
"Oh boy." I whispered, noticing that I even had pierced ears. "This is too
fucking weird."
At that moment, I could feel my crotch pulling in on me. I was too nervous
to look at it, already knowing what I'd find. Instead, I just stood there
with my hands grabbing hold of my new boobs and feeling extremely self
conscious. I couldn't believe that I'd let Toby talk me into that. For
several minutes I just stood that way, no longer feeling any more changes
and guessing that it was about finished. With that, I took a deep breath
and looked back into the mirror, recognizing without a doubt the face of
Toby's mother, Rebecca Clark.
I blinked, watching the adult woman in the mirror do the same thing. I
forced a smile and so did she. "I can't believe it." I mumbled. There I
was, standing not only in the bedroom of my best friend's mom, but looking
like her as well. After taking several more deep breaths while staring at
myself, I finally turned away from the mirror and started back towards the
living room.
When I walked into the living room, Toby gasped out loud, staring at me
with an odd mixture of pride and disbelief. "It worked." He whispered more
to himself than to me. Then with a broad grin, Toby said, "Welcome
home....mom."
Smiling back faintly, I said, "Um...yeah. You know, this is pretty weird."
"No kidding." Toby joked. "My best friend looks just like my mom. So,
what's it feel like to be a girl?"
I glared at Toby for a moment then pulled the medallion from around my
neck. "Why don't you find out?" I dared him.
"I can't." Toby smirked at me. "We can't change again for at least 12
hours."
"WHAT?" I demanded, noticing Toby flinch a little at my tone, "What do you
mean?"
Toby gulped, looking rather nervous for a moment, which I guess would be
natural since it would appear to be his mother yelling at him, but he
quickly recovered. "The necklace has to recharge or something. After it
changes someone it takes 12 hours before it can get used again. I don't know
why, but it does."
"Now you tell me." I growl. "I thought I was only going to be like this
for an hour or two tonight." I frowned and sat down on the couch, feeling
rather odd as I did so. My butt felt too big and my tits jiggled which
distracted me. "Thanks a lot." I grumbled.
"Sorry." Toby said, though he certainly didn't sound sorry.
I just nodded and sat where I was, trying to come to grips with how strange
everything had suddenly become. To how strange I felt, sitting on the couch
and actually having a pair of tits. And to the fact that Toby couldn't stop
staring at me, which made me feel even more self conscious than before.
After awhile though, I snapped at Toby, "Quit staring at me."
"Sorry." He sounded a little embarrassed at being caught, "But I still
can't get over the fact that you're Rob and not my mom." I groaned but
nodded, understanding exactly how he felt. It was strange enough just
looking at him and seeing me.
"S'all right." I told Toby, sighing as I did so. "I just wish I didn't
have to stay like this for so long. All the way till after the meeting
tomorrow."
Toby nodded, then hesitantly suggested, "Maybe you should try getting
dressed in some of my mom's clothes. I mean, to get used to wearing girls
clothes and stuff."
I thought about Toby's suggestion for a moment, then reluctantly nodded my
agreement. With a sigh I stood up, wincing slightly at an ache in my knee
that I hadn't really been there before. After rubbing at it for a moment, I
straightened up and walked over to Toby, noticing for the first time that he
seemed just a little bit shorter to me than normal. I frowned at that, then
realized that I'd grown. I'd gone from my usual 5 foot 6 to about 5 foot 8.
"Well, are you coming?" Toby asked me, interrupting my thoughts. "There's
clothes in my mom's room." I nodded and then followed behind Toby, back to
the bedroom.
In the bedroom, Toby and I went through some of the drawers, pulling out a
few pieces of clothes. I paled at the sight of the bra and panties, feeling
embarrassed to even consider wearing someone else's underwear. But I
grimaced, remembering that I was already wearing a hell of a lot more than
just her underwear, and took them into the bathroom and closed the door. I
sure as hell had no intention of undressing in front of Toby. As
embarrassed as I was already, that would have been at least ten times as
humiliating.
"Are you done yet?" Toby called out impatiently after a couple minutes.
"You try putting one of these damn things on." I growled back, still
struggling with the bra. I'd already put the panties on but the bra had
proven to be a real problem, especially with my now longer fingernails. I'd
poked myself several times already. "The things I do for friends." I
grumbled to myself, finally managing to get the bra to clasp into place.
"Now where's the rest of the clothes?" I asked through the door.
"Got em right here." Toby said, cracking the door open and slipping them in
to me.
I thanked Toby then put the loose slacks on, quickly followed by the
blouse, though that was a bit of a pain too since I had to button it in the
back. Once I was done, I glanced at myself in the mirror, guessing that the
real Rebecca Clark would have done up her hair and makeup, but at least I'd
managed to get into her clothes. I figured that would probably be about
enough for the meeting.
"All right." I told Toby as I hesitantly opened the door, "What do you
think?" I turned around so that he could get a better look.
Much to my embarrassment, Toby started clapping. "Pretty good mom." He
snickered at that and then continued, "Though normally I think my real mom
would be wearing a pair of high heels with those."
"High heels?" I squeaked.
"Oh yeah." Toby said sincerely, "At least 4 inch heels." I stared at him
for a moment in disbelief before realizing that he was joking with me.
"Ass hole." I grumbled, walking over to the closet and looking for a pair
of shoes that I could wear. I would have preferred to wear the sneakers,
but realizing that I'd have to look somewhat decent if I wanted to keep Toby
out of trouble at the meeting, I grabbed a pair of shoes with low heals.
Enough so that I'd at least be able to walk in them.
Once I'd had the shoes on, Toby and I walked back to the living room,
though I did wobble just a little as I walked. It wasn't all that easy. The
shoes might not have had very high heels, but with what was there and the
fact that my entire sense of balance had been thrown off, I had a pretty
hard time.
For the next several hours, Toby and I just stayed in the living room,
neither of us feeling all that comfortable. I paced back and forth, trying
to get used to my new body and the shoes I was wearing while Toby sat on the
couch, watching me with varying looks of amusement and nervousness. Most of
the time we talked, largely about what would be expected of me or how I'd
have to act to pass myself off as his mom. I just nodded, trying to get
myself in character.
Eventually, Toby started yawning, which sort of surprised me since I wasn't
really tired yet. But when I looked at the clock, I was surprised to see
that it was well past my normal bed time. I knew that Toby didn't really
have any set bed time, but I suspected that it was probably past the time
that he went to sleep anyway.
"I guess we'd probably better get to bed." I told Toby, "That way we'll be
ready for tomorrow." I winced slightly, not looking forward to going to bed
as a girl. Toby nodded agreement reluctantly and we both went to get ready.
I went to the master bedroom and into the private bathroom. When I glanced
at myself in the mirror, I still couldn't believe that it was me staring
back. There was nothing of my own face present. Sighing, I realized that I
needed to brush my teeth though the only toothbrush there was a red one that
had obviously been used. I stared at it for a moment, guessing that it had
to be Toby's mom's, which made me feel rather disgusted at the idea of using
it. However I once again reminded myself that I was already wearing her
underwear so that it wouldn't be much worse. With a sigh, I grabbed the
toothbrush and went to work, finding out as I did so that even all of my
teeth had changed.
When I was done brushing my teeth, I realized that I had to go to take a
piss. I stared at the toilet and then blushed furiously. "God, I can't
believe this." I grumbled to myself as I pulled down my pants and sat down,
annoyed at having to actually sit just so that I could take a leak. It was
embarrassing. It even came out differently, spraying out rather than coming
in a nice stream. However, the relief was still the same, even if I did get
myself all wet and have to dry myself off with some toilet paper.
Finishing up in the bathroom, I changed back out of the clothes I'd put on
just a few hours earlier, returning to the robe which had felt rather
comfortable. "I guess I'd better tell Toby good night." I mumbled to myself
as I tightened the sash at my waist and left the bedroom.
I went into Toby's room and saw that he was just getting ready to crawl
into bed, still amazing me at how much he looked like me. For a moment I
just stood where I was and watched him climb onto his bed, then I walked
over and grinned, seeing the somewhat uncomfortable look on his face.
Unable to resist the temptation, I reached for Toby's covers and pulled
them up, then grinned and said, "Good night. Don't let the bed bugs bite."
Toby chuckled slightly, then tiredly said, "Good night...mom." I smiled
faintly at that then turned and left Toby's room, turning off the light
behind me.
Then after going straight back to Toby's mom's room...Rebecca's room, I
told myself, deciding that it was a little easier to think of her like that
since I was wearing her body. I carefully took off the robe I'd been
wearing and hung it up on the closet door then climbed into the bed.
I...examined my body for a few minutes before turning off the light and
going to sleep myself. It was going to be a rough morning and I was
definitely going to need my sleep.
Altered Fates: The Things We Do For Friends
part 2 of 5
By Morpheus
I woke up to the sound of an alarm clock beeping off to the side, feeling
confused since it didn't sound right. It just didn't sound like my alarm
clock usually did. Then with a grunt I opened my eyes and saw that it
wasn't my alarm clock. At that very instant my memories of the night before
came flooding back.
"Oh shit." I exclaimed as I suddenly shot upright, grabbing at my tits and
half hoping that I was still just dreaming. However, after a slight pinch
to one of my now larger nipples, I knew that I was definitely wide awake.
"Just great." I grumbled, sliding out of bed and stumbling towards the
bathroom while trying to ignore the ache in my knee.
After relieving myself in the toilet, I once again stared into the mirror
for a moment then went and put the robe back on. I left the bedroom and
went into Toby's room, carefully opening the door and staring at him for a
moment while he still slept.
Grinning to myself as I got an idea, I went over and started violently
shaking Toby. "Wake up." I said, "You're going to be late for school."
Toby sat up, his eyes looking groggy and dazed. "All right mom." He yawned,
"I'm getting up." I waited for a minute as Toby started to sit up, then he
looked at me again with a look of surprise. "Oh yeah." Toby said quietly,
obviously remembering that I wasn't his mom. He blushed a little but didn't
say anything else.
While Toby started to get dressed, I left his bedroom, deciding to take a
shower. I shuddered slightly at the idea, but oddly enough, I was a little
curious at the same time. After going back into the bathroom, I climbed
into the shower and started to clean myself off. The water felt somewhat
strange spraying against my much larger chest, but in a rather nice way.
Once I'd soaped myself up and washed my hair, making sure to use the
conditioner off on the side, I rinsed off and climbed out of the shower,
feeling cleaner if nothing else.
I sat down on the toilet seat while I started drying myself off. It was so
strange. I mean, having my entire body being different and having to see
every inch of it. I stuck out in places that I shouldn't and was missing
things that should have been there. God, I felt like I was some kind of
freak or something. Or an alien. I knew that I wasn't, but I felt like it.
Once I'd dried my hair as much as I could with the towel, I just sat where
I was and stared down at myself. I had breasts. Me...a 14 year old guy, and
I had breasts. Sighing, I stood up, once again wincing at my knee. I moved
over to the mirror and stared at my reflection, amazed to see my best
friend's mom looking back. Then it struck me. Physically, I was an adult
woman. I'd been turned from a 14 year old guy into a 36 year old woman. I
was old. I had the tits, the cunt and even a bit of a spare tire now,
though it wasn't too bad.
"At least it's only for a couple more hours." I told myself as I reached
for the hair dryer.
A short while later, I left the bathroom, cleaned and dry. Deciding that
the clothes could wait for a little longer, I put the robe on again and went
to go get something to eat. I was somewhat startled to find Toby at the
kitchen table, looking like himself once again. It was obvious that he'd
used the medallion while I'd been taking my shower.
"Morning." Toby greeted me with a faint nod, "You know where the cereal's
at."
I nodded vaguely then went about pouring myself some Captain Crunch.
However, as soon as I took a bite, I stopped and grimaced. It tasted
horrible. It tasted way too sweet and sugary. Dropping my spoon into the
bowl I got back up, deciding that I could do without breakfast. I didn't
know what was wrong with my cereal and I wasn't sure that I wanted to
either.
"What's up with this garbage?" I asked Toby, gesturing to my cereal.
Toby looked at me oddly, then said, "There's nothing wrong with that.
See..." He nodded towards his own cereal and then made a show of taking a
bite. "Tastes fine to me."
I looked back at my cereal suspiciously, then hesitantly took another bite,
wincing as I did so. It was just as bad as the first time. "No way." I said.
Looking over at my bowl, Toby sniffed it cautiously and then took a bite.
I half expected him to spit it back out, but he did no such thing. "Tastes
fine to me." Toby said again, looking at me oddly.
"Just great." I grumbled, wondering if I'd lost my mind.
After a couple minutes, Toby suggested, "Maybe it's because you got turned
into my mom. I mean, what if she tastes things different than you do? I
know that she never eats my cereal."
I thought about that for a moment and guessed that it made sense. "Then
what am I supposed to eat? Shredded Wheat?" I made a face to show what I
thought about that idea.
Toby just laughed. "No man. Mom usually just drinks some coffee and has a
bagel or something." Then as almost as an afterthought, Toby added, "Or a
shot of bourbon and a slice of stale pizza." He chuckled at that and I just
shook my head, deciding that I could definitely do without breakfast.
For about the next half hour, Toby and I just sat there talking. Then I
happened to look up and notice the clock. "Shit!" I told Toby, "It's almost
time for school to start."
Toby shrugged, not looking the least bit bothered. "So. I don't care if
I'm late."
I stared at Toby for a moment, hardly able to believe what I just heard.
"But that's what got you into trouble in the first place." I snapped. "If
you go in late today, do you really think it will make any difference if I
go there or not? And I sure as hell didn't go through this for nothing." I
glared at him, daring him to argue. Then, almost to my surprise, Toby
nodded agreement.
"But what about you?" He asked me.
"I'll get to the meeting." I told Toby with a faint smile. "Like I said, I
didn't do all this for nothing." Toby grinned back though a little weakly.
Within a minute, he was out the door and on his way to school.
For several minutes I just stayed where I was, then I finally noticed that
not only was my bowl of cereal still sitting on the table, but so was
Toby's. He'd run out without throwing his empty bowl in the sink. I sighed
and took care of that myself before returning to the bedroom to get dressed.
Once I started getting dressed, I was relieved that I didn't have anywhere
near the amount of trouble with the bra as I'd had the night before. I
guessed that I'd learned the trick to it, much to my embarrassed relief. I
mean, what a thing to be proud of. The rest of the clothes went on rather
quickly as well. I'd chosen a nice looking pair of slacks and a blouse that
seemed to suggest that I was fairly serious. However, my selection of
clothing was rather limited since Toby's mom...Rebecca, the real one, had
taken a lot of them with her when she went on vacation. All I had was the
stuff she left behind, which fortunately was more than enough.
After I was all dressed, I looked at myself proudly in the mirror,
chuckling at the thought of fooling Mr. Brice. Sure, it was a bit
embarrassing, but at the same time the idea was exciting. But still, as I
looked at myself, at the adult woman that I knew Mr. Brice would see, I
realized that there was something missing. Several something's as I finally
figured out.
I grumbled to myself as ran the brush through my hair, trying to make it
look a little nicer. It was strange having that much hair and it tickled
against my shoulder. But after washing it, drying it and now brushing it, I
decided that it kind of sucked too. It was too much work just to get the
hair done. But still, I had to do it and when I was finished, I had to admit
that it looked fairly decent as well. At least for an older lady.
When I'd finished with my hair, I went on to the next bit, dreading it even
more. Makeup. I shuddered at the thought but started to work with it
anyway. After all, I figured, how hard could it be? Unfortunately, I found
out rather quickly that it was a good deal harder than it looked. But even
so, after several tries, I'd improved dramatically. It was like, once I'd
relaxed a little and got just a little practice, my hands almost seemed to
know just what to do. So when I was finished, I stared in the mirror in
amazement. I looked even more like Toby's mom than before. I really, really
looked like Rebecca. Even with all the makeup on.
"Wow." I whispered, blinking to make sure that I wasn't just imagining
things. "I guess my nails are next." With that, I picked up the off red
color and started to apply it, blowing on my newly painted nails when I was
finished, just like I'd seen my mom do before.
Finally I got to the jewelry. I felt extremely nervous as I put the stud
ear rings in, half afraid that they'd hurt. But they didn't. Not in the
least. I chuckled slightly to myself, remembering how I'd wanted to get one
of my ears pierced since it was cool but how my dad had absolutely refused
to even consider it, threatening to ground me if I did it on my own. But
now, I couldn't help but laughing at the realization that I now had two
pierced ears and that no one would think anything odd about them.
After I quit laughing, I quickly slipped on a necklace I'd found in
Rebecca's jewelry box, as well as a small ladies watch and bracelet. The
only thing missing was a ring or two but I didn't really want to wear any of
those anyway so left it as it was. I even squirted myself with a little
perfume when I was done, just to get into character though. At least that
was what I told myself. I wasn't about to admit that I was beginning to have
some fun playing dress up.
"Now," I asked myself once I was satisfied that I was ready, "how am I
going to get to school?"
I considered walking for a minute but decided that it was too far,
especially with the way my knee kept acting up. Then there was the car in
the driveway. Toby had already shown me where all the spare keys were,
including the ones for the car, but that didn't change the fact that I
didn't know how to drive yet, so that was out. Finally I realized that the
only option available was the city bus. I sighed at that, desperately
wishing that I really did know how to drive.
--------------------
I looked around, feeling extremely uncomfortable as I looked around me. I
was back at school, but not as a student this time. Not as myself even.
Somehow, I was half afraid that someone would notice me. Would recognize me
and burst out laughing. I knew that it wasn't going to happen, but that
didn't really change how I felt.
Trying to keep my fears from my face, I slowly made my way to the school
office. "Hello." I told the secretary once I got there, "I'm here to see
Mr. Brice."
Mrs. Shumacher, the school secretary examined me closely for a minute,
making me feel even more self conscious. "And you are?" she asked me.
"Mrs. Clark." I answered, already having prepared to give that name. "I
believe I have an appointment."
"Just a moment." Mrs. Shumacher told me, picking up the phone as she did
so. She talked to who I assume was Mr. Brice for a few seconds before
telling me, "Go right in."
I walked into the principal's office and saw Mr. Brice sitting behind his
desk. "Mrs. Clark." He greeted me, standing up and holding out his hand.
After I shook it, he told me, "I wasn't sure that you'd make it. We weren't
able to get hold of you by phone yesterday."
"I was at work." I told him, "But I did get the message." Mr. Brice nodded
faintly, looking as if he was a little surprised that the message was
actually delivered.
Mr. Brice nodded and started asking me several questions. Small ones that
seemed more like small talk than anything else, though I also got the
impression that he was probing me. Trying to get a feel for who I was and
what Toby's home life must be like. I just smiled and played along, absently
crossing my legs in my seat, just like a real girl would. However it took me
several minutes before I'd realized that I'd done it and once I did, I just
shrugged it off and kept my attention on Mr. Brice.
Finally Mr. Brice got to the point. "Your son has had a lot of unexcused
absences lately and has also been involved in several fights. I was
wondering if there might have been any problems at home that might be
causing his behavior."
I started thinking quickly, already having expected several questions like
that. "There haven't been any real problems." I told Mr. Brice. "Toby's
always been good at home."
We continued to talk for several minutes, mostly with Mr. Brice giving
examples of Toby's misbehavior while I just nodded and tried to look
concerned. Then after awhile, the door opened and I saw Toby walk in. He
gave me a weak smile before sitting down in another chair.
"We can't have these problems continuing." Mr. Brice told us both firmly.
"As it is, I could already have had your son suspended but have tried to
give him some benefit of the doubt."
"It won't happen again." Toby promised quickly.
Mr. Brice seemed rather doubtful and continued on. Finally, Toby once
again promised that he wouldn't cause any more problems, sounding a little
more sincere this time. I nodded agreement, pretending to be extremely upset
with Toby.
"I'll make sure that he doesn't cause any more problems." I told Mr. Brice,
glaring at Toby. "Just wait till you get home." I told Toby as we got up to
leave, "You'll be grounded till you're collecting social security."
"Yes mom." Toby answered, actually looking and sounding as if I really was
his mom chewing him out. I was somewhat amused by that, though I didn't
have to act too much to pretend that I was so annoyed. After all, he was the
reason I was stuck turning into someone else and going to that meeting in
the first place. No, I definitely wasn't happy with him and that meeting
had been a great way for me to relieve some of that emotion.
As Toby and I walked out of the principals office, I let out a sigh of
relief, glad that I'd be able to turn back to normal in just a short while.
Toby looked somewhat nervous himself, but he gave me a grin, obviously
relieved that we'd fooled Brice and kept him from getting kicked out of
school.
"Thanks." Toby told me once we were out of ear shot. "I really appreciated
that mom...I mean man."
"Don't you EVER make me have to go through that again." I growled at Toby,
seeing him flinch slightly as I did so.
"I won't." he promised, "I won't."
I nodded, still not sure I believed him. "Well, I guess I'll see you later.
I can't wait to get back to normal." Then with that, I said goodbye to
Toby. I left him to go to his next class while I hurried to catch the city
bus.
-------------------
After I'd made it to the bus and was riding around, I sighed in relief,
knowing that pretty soon I'd be back to my own self again. I could barely
wait. I mean, it had been rather interesting to be turned into a girl so
far, but I still felt kind of old and couldn't wait to get back to normal
However, when the bus stopped in front of the mall, I got off on a sudden
impulse. I wasn't really even sure why I did it, but I did. I walked into
the mall and started slowly looking around, not for anything in particular
but just to look around.
Being in the mall was a little strange for me. I mean, normally I'm just
one of the teens that are all over the place and getting ignored, but this
time was different. I was one of the grown ups who walked around and had to
be serious. No running around and acting silly for me, which wasn't hard to
do without, especially with my sore knee.
On the other hand, I did notice something else. Normally when I went into
stores, the people looked at me a little suspiciously. Like they half
expected me to shop lift or cause some kind of trouble. But again, this time
was different. The people that worked there seemed a bit nicer to me, even
going out of their way to try asking me if they could help. I just chuckled
and told them all that I was only looking before moving on.
When I was finally finished looking around and wasting time, I stopped off
at the food court for something to eat. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered
that the burger and fries I bought filled me up before I'd finished them so
I didn't even have room for the ice-cream that I usually had for desert. At
first I was a little confused because of that, but then I remembered that I
wasn't quite myself anymore. As if I could forget. Dad always said that I
had a hollow leg but I guessed that Mrs. Clark.... Rebecca didn't. So now I
didn't anymore. That was a little disappointing.
Feeling rather full, I made my way to the bus stop and then from there back
to Toby's house. When I made it back to the driveway, my knee was
practically killing me. I winced at each step but still had to walk on. I
paused for a moment, resting my knee and noticing the mailbox at the same
time. With a quick shrug I pulled out the mail to take it inside and started
flipping through it as I walked towards the door. I noticed that there were
several bills as well as an alimony and child support payment from Toby's
dad. I shrugged again and dropped them on the counter when I went inside
and then made my way to the couch to sit down. My knee was still killing me
and I definitely needed to get off of it.
Once I got comfortably stretched out on the couch, I leaned back and let
out a long sigh. I felt a little more tired than I thought I should, but
mostly it was just my knee. After laying there for a few minutes and
relaxing, I closed my eyes for just a moment and before realizing it, I'd
drifted off to sleep.
--------------------
I woke up to the feeling of someone shaking my shoulder. "What...?" I
asked groggily as I sat up, immediately recognizing Toby's face looming over
me.
"Whoa man," Toby said, "take it easy."
I shifted my position and sat up, looking at Toby for a moment and then
realizing that I must have been sleeping for awhile if he was home from
school. "Shit." I whispered, standing up and stretching. At least my knee
wasn't bothering me anymore, or at least not very much.
Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and then looked Toby in the face
again. There was an odd look there that I wasn't sure I recognized.
Shrugging that off, I looked down at myself, or more specifically, my
breasts and then grinned. "At least now I can turn back to normal. Where's
that necklace?"
"Well..." Toby turned red and looked down at his feet. He fidgeted for a
moment, looking rather embarrassed. "There's another problem." he finally
said.
For a moment I just glared at Toby, then I demanded, "What now?"
Toby coughed, looking extremely embarrassed as he did so. "Man, you've
gotta help me again. Ms. Lawrence wants to talk to my mom about my grades
in math so I told her that she'd be there tomorrow"
"NO!" I told Toby, stepping back as I did so and absently putting my hands
on my hips. "I already helped you with this. Why can't you just wait till
your mom gets back." I glared at Toby, feeling extremely irritated. How dare
he pull something like that on me?
Once again Toby looked embarrassed, even somewhat sorry. "Sorry." he told
me, "But after she heard about your meeting with Brice, she figured that she
needed to talk to you too. And I can't wait till next week. I'm almost
flunking that class and I don't want mom to know. You know she never sees
my report cards."
Groaning, I said, "No. I can't miss more school or I'll get in trouble.
And what about the fact that I have to be home tonight?"
Toby stared at me, begging "Please. I need you to help me again."
Then Toby went on, telling me that one more day wouldn't hurt anything. He
continued to beg until I finally relented. "All right." I gave in. "But
just until tomorrow. And only if you can get my mom to let me stay the night
again." I glared at Toby, hoping that my mom would say no and half expecting
it. Then I'd have the excuse I needed to change back to normal.
I watched silently while Toby picked up the phone and dialed to my house.
After a minute, I heard him say, "Hi, this is Toby. Yeah, Rob's all right.
I was just wondering if Rob could stay another night." There was a long
pause then a little more. Then finally Toby hung up the phone with a big
grin on his face. "All right." I just groaned.
"So," I asked after a few minutes, "what are we going to do about dinner?"
"I don't know MOM," Toby answered with a cocky grin, "what are you making
for dinner?"
I groaned, shaking my head as I turned away from Toby. I really feel like
going out to eat again and sure as hell didn't trust Toby to make anything
to eat. Not unless I wanted hot dogs or canned soup, which were about the
only things he could make. But then again, I knew that his mom wasn't much
better.
Sighing, I went to the kitchen to start getting things ready. I'd learned
to cook a bit from my own mom and even liked doing it a little, though I
certainly wouldn't' admit it. I mean, I'm a guy and guys are not supposed
to like cooking. However, as I looked down at myself and my drastically
changed body, I reminded myself that I wasn't a guy anymore. At least not at
the moment. But in a way, it was oddly refreshing as well. I mean, I wasn't
myself so I could go ahead and do things that I normally would never do and
not feel guilty. Like cooking. It was with that thought in mind that I
started making dinner.
While I was fixing home made clam chowder, using my mom's recipe, I started
humming to myself. Pausing halfway, I took a deep sniff of the bubbling
mixture, smiling in anticipation. It was one of my favorite meals and after
helping my mom make it a couple times I remembered the recipe, or at least
enough of it to work.
"Yummy." I said with a sigh, putting the lid back on to let it stew for a
little longer.
A minute later, I'd walked into the living room, seeing that Toby was
sitting in a chair and watching TV. I frowned absently, thinking that it
just didn't seem fair for me to be in there doing all that work while he
just watched TV. For several more minutes I just stood there, watching Toby
and frowning thoughtfully.
Finally, I coughed in order to get Toby's attention. As soon as he looked
at me, I asked, "Can you set the table?"
"Why?" was Toby's immediate response. Then he gave me a look as if
suggesting that I do it myself. "We're just going to eat here in the living
room."
At that, I began to get even more annoyed and I think Toby noticed because
he paled a little. "I didn't do all that cooking just to eat in the living
room. I made a real meal and I want to eat it like a real meal." With that
I turned around and marched back into the kitchen. Several minutes later,
Toby came in and silently started setting the table.
When we were finally sitting down to eat, I smiled, feeling rather proud of
myself as I took a bite. That had been the first time I'd ever made a whole
meal by myself, and it had turned out great.
Toby looked a little skeptical as he sniffed his clam chowder, but after he
took a bite, he looked surprised and said, "That's pretty good." Toby
cautiously took another bite. "You...I mean, mom never cooks anything this
good." Toby blushed in embarrassment at that, though whether from the slip
of his tongue or having to give a complement I didn't know. I just grinned
and felt even prouder. "I didn't think you knew how to cook."
For a moment I just looked at Toby, then I smiled. "I didn't. I guess
being turned into a girl means I automatically know that kind of stuff."
Toby just stared at me for a moment, his eyes wide open in amazed disbelief,
then he realized that I was teasing him and started chuckling.
Through the rest of dinner, Toby and I talked while we ate. It was rather
strange. Even though we'd eaten lunch and even dinner together lots of
times before, this time was different somehow. Not just because I looked
different, though that definitely played a large part, but there was also
the fact that I was the one who made the meal. I don't know why, but that
did seem to make quite a bit of difference over how we both viewed dinner.
When we'd both finished eating, I leaned back and grinned to myself
happily, grinning even wider when I saw that Toby had finished up three
bowls of my chowder. I had been a little disappointed though that I'd only
been able to eat a bowl and a half. I had wanted to eat more like I usually
did, but I just got full too quickly.
Finally, when Toby and I both stood up from the table, I glanced over at
Toby and grinned. "Have fun doing dishes."
Toby looked at me in surprise. "Why the hell should I have to do dishes?"
"Well," I shrugged, "They need to be done and I cooked dinner so it's only
fair." Toby grumbled for a moment but he didn't bother arguing too much.
And to be nice, I even helped him clear the table.
While Toby was busy doing dishes and cleaning up the mess that I so
thoughtfully left for him, I decided to go outside and get some fresh air.
Maybe even take a bit of a walk. When I thought of that, I looked down at
the slight bulge at my waist and frowned. I could definitely use the
exercise.
I left the house and stood outside for a few minutes, just taking my time
and stretching. Then I started off slowly walking down the street. I
hadn't gone more than a couple houses when I saw Dave Hanson outside one of
them working on his car. Dave was one of Toby's neighbors and a friend, even
if he was 30 years old. He was easy to talk to and sometimes even played
basketball with Toby and me.
Without really thinking about it, I stayed where I was, watching Dave for
several minutes. I couldn't help but noticing how muscular he was and
wishing that I could have those kind of muscles when I got older. Then I
giggled faintly to myself as I realized that now I was older than Dave, at
least physically. But that didn't stop me from admiring and envying his
muscles. And though I wasn't quite aware of it at the time, I seemed to
slowly shift from wishing that I had muscles like those to wanting to just
look at them on Dave.
Finally Dave looked up and noticed me standing there. "Rebecca." Dave
grinned, walking towards me. "I haven't seen you for about a week. How are
you?"
I smiled faintly to hide the embarrassment I was feeling. "I'm fine." I
told Dave, still looking at him admiringly and feeling confused about it at
the same time. How could I possibly think a guy was....cute? Then I told
myself that I was just wishing that I could have muscles like those myself,
but deep down I knew that it was more than that. "How've you been?"
"Not bad." Dave answered with a grin. "Just been replacing my alternator."
He gave a nod towards his car. "So, what's up? I thought you were going to
be away on business for a little longer."
That question caught me by surprise. Dave knew that Rebecca had gone. She'd
told him, even if she had said it was business instead of a vacation. I was
somewhat stunned by that, and embarrassed. What if he said something when
she got back? How many other people knew?
"Um....I got back a little early." I told Dave, hoping that he wouldn't ask
for any details since I didn't know what the real Rebecca had told him.
Dave nodded. "Cool. I'd kept an eye on your house and son, just in case
anything happened. You know, you shouldn't have left him by himself. I would
have been willing to watch Toby for you." Then he grinned.
"Yeah." I sighed, feeling oddly warm when Dave smiled at me. "I'll keep
that in mind if I have to go again."
I stayed where I was for a long time, still talking to Dave. I'd talked to
him plenty of times before when I was myself, but this time was different.
It wasn't just the way that Dave was talking to me and treating me, which
was quite different, but in the way I was reacting to him. In the way I was
talking to him. Normally he was just a friend, sort of like a distant big
brother type, but he didn't feel quite like anymore. I wasn't quite sure
what he felt like anymore and refused to even consider it. Eventually
though Dave promised that we'd see each other again soon, then we said our
good-byes and I went back home. To Toby's home.
Altered Fates: The Things We Do For Friends
part 3 of 5
By Morpheus
I leaned back against the couch and held my knee up so that it wouldn't
bother me. It hadn't done so for awhile, but I didn't want to take any
chances. I looked away from the TV and towards Toby's bedroom, wondering
just what he was up to. He'd barely talked to me since dinner, treating me
more like I really was his mom than his best friend. Like he was
uncomfortable just being around me. I wasn't sure exactly how that made me
feel, but I think I felt a little disappointed. After all, I was only doing
that because I was his friend.
With a sigh, I stood up and went into the kitchen to find something to
drink. However, I immediately found that all the soda's were gone. Toby had
grabbed the last one just a short while earlier, not even bothering to ask
me if I wanted it. I grumbled silently to myself, seeing that the only thing
