Altered Fates - The Medallion comes to Fairview
Part I. Revenge
It was a hot August day as Justin pulled his classic, recently
restored, 72' mustang into the parking lot of Fairview high school.
The first day at a new school, was always tough, but another new school
to start his senior year was just plain wrong, Justin thought as he
pulled into a student parking spot. Although to be fair this was not
as bad as the other times. His dad, Sergeant Major Sean Donovan, had
just retired from the United States Marine Corps, after 27 years, and
had returned to his home town that summer.
Justin had been visiting Fairview, Alabama to see his Grandparents for
years especially when his Dad was deployed. So he was not a total
stranger to the area and even knew a few kids his own age. But this
was his ninth school and starting over was never fun. Pulling his
backpack out from behind the driver seat of his car Justin smiled. The
restored 72' Stang was the summer project he, his Dad, and Grandpa had
spent the last two months working on. Justin thought back to that day
in early May when they had landed at the already hot and humid airport
in Mobile, Alabama.
They had just arrived after flying in from Japan and Justin's
Grandparents had picked him and his Dad up at the airport. It was a
pleasant reunion with hugs and backslaps, since for most of the last 27
years Justin's Dad had been stationed overseas, predominately in Japan
and Korea. Having their son decide to return to Fairview, to retire
was as enjoyable for Eric and Kelly Donovan as it was unexpected. Sean
turned to look at Justin and grinning asked him how he felt about a
little 'restoration project'. Justin had shrugged and said that it
sound okay. His Dad had then explained that this "project" would be
Justin's first car.
Justin turned toward the main doors of the school, as students milled
about. The air was filled with the sounds of teenagers shouting
greetings to each other as they got caught up on various summer
adventures. To Justin it felt like all of the other kids already knew
each other and the teasing and horse play made him think of a large
family reunion. Justin thought sarcastically, a family reunion with a
red headed step child crashing. His grin widened into a self-
deprecating silent laugh when he caught his own reflection in the glass
doors.
He had not caught up to his Dad, yet in height, but the six foot skinny
red headed youth reflected back only had two inches to go. Justin's
thin frame didn't do justice to what lay under the baggy clothes.
Justin's Dad had been a Force Recon Marine for over 24 of his 27 years
in the Corps and Justin had inherited every bit of athletic ability
from his Dad. Stepping into the cooler interior of the school Justin
was met by one of the few people he knew.
Tommy was a chubby five foot five nerd who fit the stereo type
perfectly. He lived next to Justin's grandparents. They had become
friends during one of Justin's many visits. When Justin moved to
Fairview Tommy had been the first person, outside of Justin's family,
to greet him. Their friendship seemed odd on the surface, since they
were physically nothing alike. While Justin resembled a jock he was
also an honors student and had no trouble keeping up with Tommy's quick
mind. Add in the fact that both he and Tommy had a passion for
reading science fiction and collecting comics and they had become
inseparable.
"So are you ready for your first day in the Lion's den?" smirked Tommy.
Lions or Fairview Wildcats, I think I can handle it," laughed Justin
bumping fists with Tommy as they turned to head further into the
school.
"Our home room is down the hallway on the right," Tommy indicated
Justin had transferred in from a Department of Defense School (DoDS)
and had been an honor student with nearly a perfect 4.0 GPA. This
allowed him to sign up for the honors program here which also meant
that he and Tommy shared most classes including home room. Nothing
like my own personal tour guide thought Justin. Maybe this won't be so
tough after all.
The class was already about half-full when Tommy and Justin arrived but
there were plenty of seats toward the front. Tommy grabbed the first
seat in the row next to the far wall so Justin took the seat right
behind him. As the class filled up Justin noticed several things. For
an honors home room most of the students didn't really fit the nerd
mold. They were dressed in every style from jock, through nerd, to
Goth. A surprising number of students were blonde, must be something
in the water Justin thought to himself.
Sitting in the next row over was a very pretty girl who was one of the
few exceptions to the blonde rule. Her hair was almost a midnight
black with pale skin and startling blue eyes; she turned toward Justin
and commented, "Tommy said that you were moving here Justin, do you
remember me?"
Justin felt his face go hot as he searched his memory, then it came in
a flash, "Laura?"
Laura's answering smile lit up the room and took Justin's breath away.
"Wow, you look different" he stammered. The face and hair color were
the same but Justin remembered a short somewhat chubby girl with braces
from four years ago. She had been friends with Tommy and they had all
hung out that summer. But this girl was 5'7, thin with pearly white
teeth and not a sign of braces. Justin was startled by the sound of
the door closing as the teacher walked in and called the class to
order.
The teacher was a middle aged man short and skinny with dark hair
starting to go grey on the side. He introduced himself as Mr. Lynch
and began taking roll. Justin listened to see if there were any other
names that he recognized however Mr. Lynch got to his name right away
and stopped. "Justin Donovan?"
"Here, sir," Justin replied.
"You're Sean Donovan's boy?" asked Mr. Lynch.
"Yes, sir."
"I knew your dad from high school, welcome to Fairview." Mr. Lynch
then returned to calling attendance.
After home room Justin's next class was AP calculus along with most of
the kids from the honors home room. Justin quickly discovered that the
DoDS School had done a good job, since he didn't feel behind more
confident Justin started to relax a little.
At lunch Justin sat with Tommy and had his first real chance to meet
and talk to the other kids from his morning's classes. Sitting on the
other side of Tommy was a tall overweight boy with thick glasses. His
name was Steve and he was one of Tommy's close friends. Steve had been
in all of Justin's earlier classes but they hadn't had a chance to
talk. The table seated six and was circular; Tommy, Justin and Steve
were the first three to arrive at the table but it quickly filled up
with Laura, and another very skinny girl named Tracy with dark blonde
hair, braces, and glasses yet she moved with the unconscious athletic
grace of someone who has spent years studying ballet. The last member
to join the table was a younger boy named Phil skinny and short with
light brown hair. He was the only one at their table who was not a
senior.
Justin was introduced by Tommy to everyone, much to Tommy's enjoyment,
and Justin's discomfort. He never really liked to be the center of
attention. After answering a couple of questions about Japan, the
conversation turned to the latest RPG the group all evidently played.
Justin realized after a couple of minutes that these kids were not
talking about a video or computer game but old school D&D with paper
characters and dungeon guide books.
"Justin, have you ever played D&D?" asked Tracy.
"No I've played lots of RPG based video games, but not old school D&D,"
he replied.
"We'll be getting together on Saturday night to play if you're
interested," said Steve.
"Sure, sounds like fun."
Laura turned to Justin and asked, "You said your dad just retired from
the Marine Corps. What does your mom do?"
As she was asking the question Tommy tried to shake his head but Laura
didn't see the subtle gesture. "She died in a car accident almost
three years ago." Justin was slightly surprised at the lump that
appeared in his throat when he answered. He had thought that he was
mostly over it.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Laura immediately responded.
Justin shrugged. "No prob, it seems like a long time ago now."
"How did it happen?" asked Steve.
"My Dad was the base Command Sergeant Major at Camp Fuji, my mom was
coming home from the commissary and it had been raining. We were
living in a Japanese house off base and the roads tend to be very
narrow with high walls. My mom got to a corner and when she went
through was hit on the driver's side. The police said the other driver
tried to stop but he was going downhill and the stones were very slick.
Anyway she was killed instantly."
"That's so sad," Tracy whispered.
Justin looked around the table realized that everyone was looking at
him, so he quickly changed the subject. "Tell me about this adventure
you're all playing." That was enough to get the conversation moving as
they all discussed the latest challenge.
The rest of the day went quickly and Justin was headed out to the
parking lot with Tommy before he knew it. "Your car is so cool," Tommy
admired, "do you think you could give me a lift?"
"Sure, I should stop by and say hi to my Grandparents anyway." The
growl of the engine sent a thrill through Justin.
"How fast will she go?" asked Tommy.
"I don't know and my dad will kill me if I ever find out," laughed
Justin. As he started to back out a Ford F150 sped past horn blaring
teens hanging out the windows.
"Hey, look Rolly-pollie has a new friend," shouted the blonde boy in
the passenger's seat.
The truck continued through the parking lot ignoring the stop sign and
nearly running an old Chevy Nova off the road as it tore into the
street.
"Who was that?" Justin asked turning to look at Tommy.
"That was, asshole Brian and his buddies. There a bunch of worthless
trouble makers. Used to be jocks but are into partying, drinking,
drugs, and fighting. So they got kicked off the school teams. Brian
and his buddies try to make life miserable for everyone. But they
really love picking on me. I usually just walk home and that's when
they like to push me around," said Tommy.
"Well don't worry. I can give you a ride everyday if you want,"
answered Justin.
It was less than a mile from the school to Tommy's house, so the drive
was a quick one. Justin pulled into his Grandparents driveway and
waived to Tommy's mom who was working in her flowerbed.
"Hey do you want to come over and grab a snack, and play some videos?"
asked Tommy.
"I'd like to but I need to get home. My Dad's expecting me, we're going
to work out and then grab some dinner."
"Okay, work out?" asked Tommy sounding puzzled.
"Sure my Dad and I work out each morning before school and then again
after school."
"Why in the world would you do that? Never mind, I forgot for a second
you're really into that Mixed Martial Arts stuff. Well try not to hurt
your old man."
"Hi Dad, I'm home," Justin shouted as he tossed his book bag onto a
counter. When there was no answer so Justin headed down to the
basement. As he descended he could hear the sound of a heavy bag being
worked over. Sean Donovan at 45 years old was 6'2" and 190lbs of solid
lean muscle. When he hit the heavy bag the whole thing bounced and
jerked. Sean looked up and grinned at his son. Justin picked up a
towel and tossed it across the room. "So what are we working today?"
"I think we'll focus on strikes, and then maybe some, take downs, and
pins," Sean replied.
Justin raced back up to his room to change into a gi, and returned to
the basement and started stretching. Sean had returned to working on
the heavy bag, now mixing it up, jab, roundhouse kick, spinning back
fist, all lightning fast. 15 years in the Fareast training with the
Japanese and Korean Self Defense Forces had polished Justin's Dads
fighting skills.
"Are you ready?" asked Sean.
"Sure." Justin stood up and walked over to where his Dad was standing.
Facing the mirrors that covered one wall. "Horse stance, middle front
punch, one-two, one-two...." Soon Justin lost himself in the movements,
punching and kicking the events of the day seemed to drain away.
After working out Justin got cleaned up and then started on homework.
Luckily there really wasn't much yet since it was only the first day.
While he was showering his Dad put a couple of steaks on the grill and
started dinner. "So how was your first day?"
"Not bad, the classes seem like they'll be easier than I thought. It's
nice knowing someone," Justin replied.
"How's Tommy?" asked Sean.
"He's good, he introduced me to a couple of his friends, they wanted to
know if I can go over to Tommy's this Saturday to play D&D with them."
Sean grunted, "Isn't that for little kids?"
"Naw, there are a bunch of kids playing, it should be fun," said
Justin.
Sean grunted and then said, "Now that you're back in school I wanted to
talk to you about the offer I got from that private security firm."
"You mean the one that's all over the news with the contractors in
Iraqi? You're not thinking of taking their offer are you" asked Justin
with some alarm? "Not to go overseas," replied Sean. "I already
turned that down, but they need a trainer for their guys. I'll be down
in Mobile three days a week to help train teams as they get ready to
deploy. The money is great. I mean really good, more than my annual
active duty salary. But it means a couple of nights each week you'll
be here by yourself maybe up to a full week once in a while." Justin
shrugged, "Dad you've been deploying since before I was born. I'll be
fine by myself once in a while. Plus Grandpa and Grandma are only a
couple of minutes away."
"That's why I was planning to accept the offer. I just wanted to make
sure you were okay with it," his dad replied.
The tall blonde walked through the flea market feeling bored. Why mom
drags me to these things I'll never know she thought. The blonde loved
her mom, but sometimes her obsession for finding obscure antiques was
maddening. Wandering through the stalls she noticed that more than
half were empty, not surprising for a Monday afternoon. Still this was
the south and flea markets were a cultural icon. Spotting a booth with
cheap looking magic paraphernalia the blonde stopped up to check it
out. Crystals, astrological charts, and all types of jewelry were on
display. An old man behind the country looked over at her, smiling he
stood up and walked over. "Can I help you Miss?"
"Uh, no I'm just looking," she responded.
"I think you might find this piece interesting," he said reaching under
the counter and opened a drawer filled with items in separate plastic
bags. Placing a clear bag on the counter, the blonde could see a cheap
looking necklace inside.
Curious she opened the bag and pulled it out. "What's in made of,
brass?" she asked.
"That necklace is very old, but I think you may need it soon," the old
man answered evading her question.
He's probably trying scam me, she thought, still there's something
about the angle like figure that's cool. "How much?"
"For such a pretty girl, $5.99," he replied happily.
It's probably only worth .99 cents, the blonde thought as she dug into
her purse. Walking away from the booth she scanned the nearby stalls
looking for her mom. "I hope mom's ready to leave," she muttered
quietly.
Tuesday dawned cloudy and muggy. Justin felt he could cut the air with
a knife as he drove over to Tommy's.
"I didn't think you'd pick me up," said Tommy sliding into the
passenger seat.
"Like I'd forget what you said yesterday about those losers," grinned
Justin gunning the engine slightly as they pulled away from Tommy's
house.
Justin guided the Stang into the parking lot which resembled controlled
chaos of cars, busses, and students rushing about looking like they
were not quite ready for summer to be over. Climbing out Justin had to
jump slightly to avoid getting hit by a yellow VW beetle that pulled
into the spot next to him.
Laura grinned as she opened the door. "Hi, Justin."
Justin couldn't help smiling back, finding himself tongue tied.
"Hey, we'll be late if you to lovebirds don't get moving," Tracy said
as she got out of the other side of the beetle.
"Tracy!" Laura exclaimed turning red.
"Tracy, look they match," laughed Tommy.
"Let's get to class before we're late," Justin answered glaring at
Tommy.
Laura led the way into the school and Justin found that he couldn't
take his eyes off her. Particularly since he had a great view as she
walked toward the main entrance doors.
The week went by in a blur for Justin as he settled into the routine of
being back in school. When the bell rang signaling the end of the day
he couldn't have been happier the first week of school was over. The
halls filled with kids shouting back and forth as Justin and Tommy
walked toward the exit.
"Hi, Justin."
Turning at the sound of Laura's voice Justin's heart skipped a beat.
Laura waved for him to come over.
"This is Becky, we're on the volley ball team together," said Laura.
"Do you have plans for tonight?"
"My Dad and I are going over to my Grandparents for dinner," Justin
answered. He could see at once that Laura was disappointed. "Why?"
"Well, some of us, after the football game, are going out to Anthony's
Pizza and I was wondering if you'd like to come?" she asked.
"I'd like to, but I've got to be at my Grandparents, maybe I can meet
you there later," Justin replied. "The game kicks off at 6 p.m. so
we're usually there by 9:30."
"Okay, I'll try," said Justin.
At Laura's smile Justin decided that he would be there no matter what.
Justin tried not to gawk at Becky and Laura as they walked, but damn
they're both hot Justin thought. The halls had cleared out somewhat
while he had been talking but didn't see Tommy. Assuming he'd meet up
with him at the car Justin headed out to the parking lot.
Approaching the parking lot Justin could see a knot of teen's at the
far end close to where he'd parked the Stang that morning. As he got
closer Justin saw that Tommy and Brian were in the middle of the crowd.
Pushing his way through Justin was in time to see Brian shove Tommy.
Tommy stumbled backward into one of Brian's buddies, another tall boy
with greasy blonde hair, who grabbed Tommy and held him tightly in a
bear hug.
"So Rolly-pollie where's my money? You've been avoiding me all week!
You know you owe me," said Brian with a malicious grin.
Looking around Justin didn't see any adults. He did see at least three
of Brian's friends surrounding Tommy.
Without thinking Justin dropped his book bag and stepped forward.
"What's going on here?"
Brian turned to look at Justin and sneered, "Stay out of this carrot
top or you'll regret it."
Justin noticed that Brian was taller than he was and heavier with both
muscle and fat. Most of the kids surrounding Tommy were taller than
Tommy but shorter than Justin with the exception of Brian and the big
kid holding Tommy.
"Look we don't want trouble, if we're caught fighting on school grounds
we could all be suspended. Let Tommy go before someone sees," Justin
said trying to sound reasonable.
"Fighting, we're not fighting," laughed Brian. "I'm going to pound on
Rolly-pollie here and take his money. It's a tradition that goes back
to Junior High and I see no reason to quit just because this is our
senior year," growled Brain stepping toward Justin.
"I bet you think you're a badass cause your Dad was a Marine? I maybe
I should kick your ass on principle."
Brian stepped forward and shoved Justin, or at least tried to shove
him. As Brian's hands reached forward Justin grabbed Brian's right
wrist with his right hand pivoted using Brian's own momentum against
him Justin executed a Hani-Goshi, a hip throw, and slammed Brian to the
ground.
At this chaos erupted around Justin and Tommy, for Justin everything
seemed to slow down and take on a surreal quality. One of the boys
standing next to Tommy stepped forward and threw a wild haymaker at
Justin. Justin stepped into the swing caught it and pivoted turning
180 degrees in a picture perfect Shiho-nage. Justin stretched the kids
arm out, as his father had taught him to do in combat, so that the full
force of the boy's momentum plus Justin's energy was transmitted to the
shoulder. The punk hit the ground awkwardly with a popping sound as
his shoulder was dislocated.
Another one of Brian's buddies took a wild swing at Justin, he caught
the blow on the outside of his left arm and then stepped forward
hitting the boy with an open palm to the nose. The feeling of
cartilage crunching beneath his hand told Justin that the boy's nose
was broken as he dropped to the ground stunned. The large kid that had
been holding Tommy pushed him to one side and tied to shoot low
grabbing for Justin's legs in a classic wrestler two leg take down. To
Justin the move was telegraphed, slow, and clumsy so he brought up his
knee as the boy came in feeling a jarring crunch as his knee made
contact with the boys jaw. The momentum of the move stood his attacker
up so Justin spun around and lashed out with a back fist that connected
with the boy's already fractured jaw, dropping him like a wet rag into
a boneless heap.
"I'm going to kill you man," screamed Brain who had by this time picked
himself up and shaken off the effects of the throw.
Brian charged forward throwing a jab, which Justin avoided, and
followed it up with a right cross. Justin grabbed Brian's arm with his
right hand and turned Brian's arm over palm down. Then before Brian
could react Justin slammed his hand into Brian's elbow. The sound of
the arm breaking echoed in Justin's ears. Justin stepped back and
looked around. All of a sudden the world seemed to return to normal
speed and Justin discovered that he was only slightly winded. Other
than the moans of the boys on the ground there was a stunned silence.
Tommy who had just climbed back to his feet broke the silence. "Holy
shit!"
Now that the fight was over Justin felt adrenalin draining from him and
knew that he was in trouble. Picking up his backpack he looked over
his shoulder. "Come on Tommy."
The crowd parted in front of Justin as Tommy shouted, "Where are we
going?"
"To the principal's office," Justin replied.
"What?! Man, what are you thinking, we should jump in your car and get
out of here," Tommy exclaimed.
"Look at them," Justin pointed to the four boys still on the ground.
"They're going to need medical attention, and we could get kicked out
of school. We need to get to the office and explain what happened!"
Justin turned back toward the principal's office with Tommy following
reluctantly behind. As he walked up the sidewalk Justin saw Laura and
Becky staring at him open mouthed. "Great, now she thinks I'm some
kind of hoodlum who beats up other kids and likes to get in fights!"
Justin thought to himself sure that he had blown any chance he might
have had with Laura.
Justin's Dad had picked him up from the police station after the
principle had called the cops. As it turned out Justin's Dad had gone
to school with the Fairview Sheriff and had talked him out of arresting
Justin and Tommy or charging them with assault. If it hadn't been for
several witnesses that stated that Brian and his friends had attacked
Justin and that all four of them had previous run-ins with the local
cops Justin might have been charged anyway. As it was three of the
four boys were spending the night in the hospital.
"So you think that I've taught you all these years so you could fight
with local losers?" asked Sean once they had walked into their house.
"No Dad, but they were about to kick Tommy's butt, what was I supposed
to do?"
"You should have found a way to talk them out of it and deescalated the
whole situation," his father replied angrily.
Justin could see that his Dad was furious. "How was I supposed to do
that? I started talking to them and that Brian kid attacked me."
"Justin I wasn't there, but if you have to resort to violence to
resolve a conflict, you've already lost," Sean stated. "What if one of
those punks had, had a knife or a gun? What then?"
"Dad, I get it but they didn't and I didn't have any other options!"
Sean shook his head in frustration. "Justin, I've lost Marines in
stupid brawls like this! It's too easy for this type of situation to
go from cuts and bruises to life and death. You're grounded for a
month, no TV or video games either."
Justin nodded. "Yes, sir."
Saturday, and the blonde's parents were gone for the weekend attending
some sort of conference. Climbing out of her bed she padded across the
room to the chair where she had tossed her boyfriend's tee-shirt. She
had convinced him to give her one so she could wear it and feel closer
to him when they couldn't be together. She had read in a romance novel
about a heroine who had done that when her lover had to ship out. She
had yet to actually put it on but she was mad at her boyfriend right
now. He could be spending the day with her. Instead he was watching
film from the football game last night. Catching sight of her
reflection in the mirror she smiled, tall and thin she knew that she
looked great. Why doesn't he appreciate me? Stepping closer to the
dresser the blonde noticed the necklace she had bought earlier that
week. Picking it up, "Hmm, it looks a little dirty, well I've got a
rag right here," she giggled. Taking the corner of her boyfriend's
shirt she started to rub the medallion trying to clean it. As soon as
the shirt touched the medallion she felt a spark of static.
The next week was torture for Justin. In addition to the grounding, he
was also suspended from school. Since his Dad still hadn't started his
new job he made sure that Justin's days were filled with either chores
or workouts. During training sessions Sean grilled Justin on ways to
avoid fights. The dichotomy of incessant martial arts training while
being lectured on ways to never have to fight was not lost on Justin.
Still having his Dad spend almost every waking moment with him, while
exhausting, was kind of fun for a boy who grew up with a workaholic Dad
and his non-stop deployments. One of the very few pluses was that
Tommy had not been suspended and Justin's grounding didn't include the
phone or computer.
"Justin, the whole school is talking about you! You're a hero, man!
Nobody has ever taken down Brian like that. You went through the four
of them like a bad attitude," Tommy enthused over the phone.
"Great now everyone in the school thinks I'm some punk. Just what I
need," said Justin.
"No, dude you don't understand. That was the coolest thing I've ever
seen. I even overheard Principle Marks talking to Ms. Jones, you know
the English Lit teacher? Anyway he said that he couldn't believe it
when you walked into his office, "Calm as you please," and said that
you'd just been in a fight and that he needed to call an ambulance and
the police. He also said that you were Sean Donovan's son through and
through."
Justin just grunted. "Are you going to tell me the homework
assignments or not?"
"Sure, but Laura was asking about you."
Justin could hear the grin in his friends voice even if he couldn't see
him. "Yeah, what did she say?"
"Only that what you did was the most amazing thing she'd ever seen.
She thought that you must have learned those moves in Japan."
"Well she's partly right, Japan, Korea, and the U.S. Marines. My Dad
was a black belt instructor in Marine Crops martial arts. He used to
take me to the evening training sessions and I'd sometimes get to spare
with his Marines," answered Justin.
"That's so cool, do you think you could show me some moves?"
"If I'm ever not grounded, sure," replied Justin.
"Justin, dinner," yelled Sean from the living room.
"Hey, I've got to go. Send me an e-mail with the homework and your
notes."
"Sure thing, bye," said Tommy hanging up.
"So Justin is back on Monday right?" Becky asked Laura as they walked
from the volley ball court toward the girl's locker room.
"That's what Tommy said," replied Laura looking over at her taller
blonde friend.
Becky nodded. "You know I'm not really into red headed guys but for
him I'd make an exception."
Laura felt herself flush and feeling jealous. "You've already got a
boyfriend, what would Paul say?"
Becky laughed. "Hey, you can never have to many boyfriends! Besides
Paul hasn't been paying enough attention lately, I could really make
him jealous if I went out with Justin."
At Laura's glare, Becky giggled, "Girl you've got it so bad!"
Feeling like she'd been caught with her hand in a cookie jar Laura
looked away.
"So are you going to make a move?"
Shaking her head Laura said, "I would, but he's grounded for another
three weeks! It's so unfair, suspended for a week by the school and
grounded for a month by his Dad. All he did was step in and prevent
Tommy from getting beat up, again! If the school had stopped Brian
from picking on Tommy years ago none of this would have happened!"
Becky cocked her head. "He's at school for what six, seven hours a
day? That's plenty of time hook him and Girl you'd better do it soon
because there are plenty of others who are eyeing him!"
Laura pushed open the door to the girl's locker room but she knew that
Becky was right. What Becky didn't know was that Laura had liked
Justin ever since she had met him three years ago but had been too shy
to say anything. Well not anymore she silently vowed!
Monday at last thought Justin as he started his car. The warm growl of
the Stang brought a smile to his face. At least Dad didn't ground me
from my car. Backing out of the driveway Justin knew that he'd have to
be on extra good behavior since his Dad was watching him like a hawk.
Still it felt good to have the freedom to drive to Tommy's and pick him
up for school. That by itself had been a minor victory. After eating
Sunday dinner with Grandpa and Grandma Donovan, Justin had brought up
the subject of picking up Tommy for school. His Dad had scowled but
told him fine as long as there were no other side trips.
It was a sunny day as Justin pulled into Tommy's driveway. Tommy had
been watching and came trotting down the porch taking the steps in an
awkward jump and then jogging to the passenger side door. "Dude, great
to see you," Tommy grinned as he slammed the door shut. "You would not
believe, the rumors about you going around at school!"
With an uneasy feeling, Justin headed toward the school. "What
rumors?"
"Well someone told Steve that you'd been raised by Japanese monks while
your father was away on top secret missions. At this secret monastery
you were trained night and day in Shaolin fighting skills!" answered
Tommy.
Justin groaned. "Shaolin monks are Chinese, I lived in Japan, and I
stayed with my Mom when my Dad was deployed. He quit deploying after
she died!"
Tommy laughed. "Well the next rumor is better, your Dad's best friend
in Japan was really a Ninja master who is also secretly your God Father
and personally taught you ancient fighting skills!"
"Great, just great I don't suppose you know the source of these
rumors?" asked Justin with a glare at his friend.
Tommy leaned over punched him in the arm. "I'm just messing with you
man, nobody's said any of that stuff. You really need to lighten up
and get laid, especially now since half of the girls in the school are
fighting over who will get first crack at you!"
Justin walked toward the cafeteria for lunch and couldn't help being
self-conscious at the looks he received from the other students. Most
were awed at the red-headed kid who had taken out Brian and his friends
all at once. Everyone wanted to ask him about the fight, which was the
last thing Justin wanted to talk about. In his classes many of the
kids had been victims of Brian's reign of terror and they treated
Justin like a hero. Justin found himself the center of attention,
something he was never comfortable with. All of a sudden he was one of
the most popular kids in the school.
Spotting Tommy at the usual table Justin slid in next to him placing
his tray on the table. Before he knew it Laura and Tracy had moved
into the seats immediately to his left.
"Hi," Laura said as she sat down smiling at him.
Justin felt his face heat up again and quickly muttered, "Hi," under
his.
Steve and Phil dropped into seats across the table from Justin filling
it up to his relief. After making it clear to Steve, who immediately
asked about the fight, that he didn't want to talk about it the
conversation turned to the RPG from last Saturday night. All five
friends had played and wished that Justin could have joined them. They
enthusiastically described the adventure and Justin couldn't help
getting swept up in the drama. He listened as they talked about the
traps they had avoided and the climactic battle with a Demonic Vampire
Lord. Justin found himself wishing that he could have been there. If
only he hadn't gotten into that stupid fight he berated himself for the
hundredth time.
The week seemed to fly by. Justin had plenty of homework to get caught
up on and his Dad made sure that the evenings were filled with either
workouts or homework. At school he was still uncomfortable with his
unwanted popularity, and just hoped that it would fade soon.
Friday night and Laura sat in the football stands watching Fairview
lose to Clio for the fourth year in a row. Next to her Tracy grabbed
Laura's arm and pointed. "What is Becky doing with Todd?"
Sitting several rows below them Becky was next to Todd Dawson with
Todd's arm draped territorially around Becky. "I don't know she's been
acting pretty strange for the last couple of weeks," replied Laura.
"Strange is one thing but flirting with Todd is like totally different,
let's go rescue her," said Tracy.
The two girls descended to Becky's row, most of the fans had already
left, and sat down next to her.
"Hey Becky we really need to talk to you," said Laura.
"Sure," Becky replied detaching herself from Todd.
The three girls moved back up a couple rows and sat down.
"So what did you want to talk about?" asked Becky.
"What are you doing with Todd? He's one of the biggest druggies in the
school!"
"What will you do if Paul finds out?" asked Tracy in a rush.
"I hope Paul does find out! He's such a jerk. He'd rather spend time
with his friends on the football team than me. Well, I'm not going to
sit home and wait for him. There are plenty of other guys who'd like
to take me out," said Becky.
"Seriously," Laura asked, "you're trying to make Paul jealous with
Todd? That's like playing Russian roulette because you chipped a nail.
Todd deals drugs, Becky he's really scary. This is a bad idea."
Becky stood up. "I know what I'm doing. I'll call you tomorrow and
tell you all about my date."
Laura and Tracy watched as Becky sat back down with Todd.
Laura's cell phone woke her from a sound sleep Saturday morning.
Taking a look at the number she saw that it was Becky. "Hey girlfriend
it's kind of early," Laura said sleepily.
"Laura, I'm in trouble can you come get me!"
The sound of Becky's voice as much as the words shocked Laura into
wakefulness. "Oh God, Becky what happened?"
"I'll tell you when you get here, just please come get me."
"Okay, just tell me where."
Laura parked her Beetle in the lot at the rest area off highway 10.
Scanning the area Laura saw Becky sitting at the foot of a tree with
her arms wrapped around her legs and her head down resting on her arms.
Laura ran up to her friend feeling helpless knowing this would be bad.
Becky must have heard Laura approaching because she raised her head.
"You've got to promise me, you won't tell anyone."
This stopped Laura short. "Oh, God Becky what happened?" Becky's face
was a mess of blood, dirt, and tears a silent testament to her ordeal.
Her nose was obviously broken, her left eye was swollen shut, her upper
lip had been split and it looked like she was missing a tooth. Becky
stared off into space silent. So Laura knelt down next to her and
tried to wrap her arms around Becky. At Laura's touch Becky flinched
away.
"Honey, it's okay. It's going to be okay."
Becky looked at Laura. "I don't think it will ever be ok, I should
have listened to you. He...Todd...he raped me."
Laura took a deep breath. "Oh, honey I'm so sorry." This time Becky
didn't flinch away when Laura hugged her. Several minutes passed
before Laura pushed away, "Becky we need to get you to a hospital. We
need to make sure you're okay and then call the police."
A spark appeared in Becky's eyes. "We are not going to a hospital or
the police. Laura think about it, everyone at school will know, ... my
parents, ...oh God."
"What do you want to do?" Laura asked. "How can you explain this?"
"Just get me home, my parents are away so there won't be anyone there
to ask questions," replied Becky.
It was about a twenty minute drive to Becky's house once Laura parked
her car Becky quickly darted inside. Becky's folks were both doctors
and her house reflected that fact, it was quite large and a newer
construction. Laura followed Becky up to her room on the second floor.
She found Becky going through her dresser.
"Yes," said Becky holding up a cheap looking medallion. Becky then
went to her dirty clothes hamper pulling out a top that Laura
remembered seeing Becky wear earlier that week. Becky then put the
medallion around her neck and pressed the blouse to it.
"What are you doing Becky?" asked Laura.
"Just watch," her friend replied.
Laura studied Becky's face, it looked pretty bad, there is just no way
we can hide this, Laura thought. As Laura watched the swelling started
to go down, at the same time the black eye began to fad back to normal,
the cuts on Becky's face sealed themselves, and Becky's nose
straightened out. Laura wasn't sure how long it took, but in what
seemed like a few minutes all traces of Becky's ordeal were gone.
"Becky how did you do that?" Laura asked.
Her friend gave her a shaky smile, a smile with no sign of a missing
tooth. "Magic."
The next week left Justin feeling frustrated. He had thought that he
was getting closer to Laura, but now she seemed to have no time for
him. She was with Becky every second, and while Laura's tall pretty
blonde friend seemed nice there was something strange going on. Justin
just couldn't figure out what, he caught Becky staring at him
speculatively a couple of times and couldn't figure it out. When he
asked Tommy, he just shrugged and said, "girls" as though that
explained everything. On Wednesday Justin's Dad informed him that he
would be working in Mobile, all weekend. Sean also made it clear that
just because he wasn't going to be home that didn't change any of the
rules. Justin was still grounded.
"Hi Becky," said Laura as she stepped into Becky's house. It was 6 pm
on Friday and Becky had asked Laura to spend the night.
"My parents are out back on the deck, let's go up to my room," said
Becky.
Once up in Becky's room she started in on the argument they had been
having all week.
"I don't think Justin will do it," said Laura.
"He will if you convince him too. Besides if you try and he still says
no, I've got a backup plan," Becky replied.
"What plan?" asked Laura with an uneasy feeling.
"This," said Becky pulling out the strange medallion Laura had seen her
use last Saturday to heal herself.
"I don't get it, how will a magic medallion that heals people help you
convince Justin to beat up Todd?"
"It doesn't really heal people Laura, or at least that's only one of
its possible effects. Here let me show you," said Becky stepping
forward and clasping Laura's hand with hers while holding the medallion
firmly between their hands. A shock like static electricity sparked
between their hands when the medallion touched them.
"What are you doing?" asked Laura looking at her friend confused.
"Just wait," said the tall blonde stepping back and dropping the
medallion onto her dresser.
Justin had just finished a 5 mile run and started stretching when he
heard the doorbell ring. Walking to the door he could see Laura and
Becky through the window standing on the front porch. "Hey, what are
you two doing here?" he asked smiling to make the question sound
friendlier.
"Can we come in?" asked Laura.
"I'm grounded so I'm really not supposed to have anyone over."
"I know," she interrupted, "but Tommy said that your Dad wasn't going
to be home and we really need to talk to you."
God she's so gorgeous thought Justin, I hadn't realized she could be a
bit push as well. "I guess but if my Dad finds out I'm going to be
grounded forever." Leading the girls through the entry into the living
room Justin said, "I tell you what, the kitchen is straight through
there, why doing you two help yourselves to a coke. I'm drenched so
give me ten minutes to catch a shower."
"Sounds good," said Laura, smiling at him.
Justin dashed down the hall and into his room. Holy crap two of the
hottest girls from school in my house and I'm all nasty from running.
Tossing sweat drenched clothes to the floor Justin grabbed a towel from
the laundry basket, full of clean clothes, and then ducked back out
across the hall into the bathroom.
"Becky, are you sure about this?" Laura asked Becky.
Her friend glared up at her. "This is no time for second thoughts and
don't call me Becky. We have to do something about Todd and Justin is
the best choice."
"I know, and I agreed we should do something but I feel terrible asking
him to do this," Laura (in Becky's body) replied.
"Well you're not asking him, I am, so just be nice and stay quiet,"
Becky (from Laura's body) replied. Then softer, "He really likes you,
guys will do almost anything for a pretty girl, I'm sure I can convince
him. He's not some meek nerd, Justin's a fighter he can take Todd down
easy."
When Justin returned to the kitchen he found Laura and Becky sipping a
couple of diet cokes. "So what brings the two of you here, especially
at 7 am on a Saturday?"
"Becky," Laura glanced strangely at Becky, "and I need to ask you for a
favor," said the apparent Laura. "Is there some place we can sit
down?"
"Sure," said Justin leading them into the living room and dropping onto
the couch. Laura much to his pleasure sat down next to him while Becky
sat down in a chair opposite the couch. "So what's this all about?"
asked Justin extremely conscious of the fact that Laura's leg was
touching his.
"There's no easy way to say this," said Becky (in Laura) glancing at
the real Laura who nodded. "Last weekend Becky was raped by Todd."
Justin felt the blood drain from his face. He turned to the faux Becky
"Are you okay? God I'm sorry what a stupid thing to say. Have you
gone to the police?" asked Justin.
"No she hasn't and she won't either," said the faux Laura fiercely.
"I don't understand, if you're not going to go to the police, and you
don't want anyone to know, why are you telling me?" asked Justin.
"Because," said Becky (from Laura's body) placing her hand on Justin's
thigh and squeezing to get his attention, "we want your help."
"We both saw the way you beat up Brian and his friends, well Todd is
even more of a looser. We, ah I, want you to teach him a lesson for
us."
"Whoa, wait a second," said Justin looking from Laura to Becky, "you
two want me to go out, find this Todd guy and put him in the hospital.
Is that what you're asking me to do?"
"He needs to be taught a lesson and we know you can do it!" said Becky
(in Laura).
"You're asking me to go vigilante on this guy? That's against the law
and even if it weren't it's also wrong," said Justin looking over to
Becky. "Look nothing can fix what he did, but if you go to the police
I'm sure you can get this guy sent to jail. If I beat him up, what's
to say a year from now he won't just go out and rape someone else? If
you get him sent to jail he won't be able to hurt anyone."
Becky (in Laura) reached up putting both of her hands on either side of
his face forcing Justin to look into her blue eyes. "Please, we need
you. No I need you to do this. Todd must be stopped and taught a
lesson, do it for me," Becky (in Laura) pleaded.
Todd reached up and pulled her hands down and then stood up turning
away from them to face the fire place. "I really want to agree Laura,
but I can't do what you're asking me to do, it's wrong. I'm sorry. My
best advice is to go to the police."
Behind Justin's back Laura and Becky exchanged glances, the faux Laura
pulled the medallion from a pocket and held it out to the apparent
Becky. Laura (in Becky) was careful to take the medallion by its chain
and cleared her throat. "Justin, would you take a look at this," she
asked.
Justin turned around and glanced at the girl he thought was Becky. She
stood only a foot from him holding out a cheap looking medallion. "I
don't really know much about jewelry," Justin said.
"Oh, but this is special," she replied taking Justin's hand and placing
the medallion in it.
"Och, what was that?" asked Justin.
"Oh, just some static," said Laura (in Becky) still touching the
medallion and holding Justin's hand.
Justin pulled away and held it up. "It looks like there's an image of
an angel on one side, is this made out of bronze?" asked Justin.
"I'm not sure," said Becky from the couch. "I found it two weeks ago
in a flea market. An old man sold it to me. He said it was just what
I needed."
"How could a piece of old junky jewelry but just 'what' you need?"
Justin asked. Suddenly he felt strange like something was somehow off.
The girl Justin thought was Laura, plucked the medallion from Justin's
hand being careful to only touch the chain. "Can I use your bathroom?"
she asked.
"Sure," said Justin waving toward the hallway that lead back to his
room. "God, I feel light headed, I must be dehydrated," said Justin.
He walked into the kitchen and reached up to get a glass from the
cupboard. Wow that's strange, the shelf feels higher somehow. Taking
a glass down Justin stopped and just stared at his arm. His normal red
hair had turned blonde. Holding up his hands he noticed that the
fingers were wrong. Instead of the normal thick fingers, with knuckles
and hands covered in calluses from lifting weights and hitting the
heavy bag he was looking at a pair of slim hands. "What the hell?" said
Justin and stopped. "What's wrong with my voice?" Turning back to the
living room Justin felt his pants slip and noticed he was stepping on a
pant leg. This is impossible, he thought. Standing in the center of
the great room was Becky but instead of her normal 5'10" she was now an
even six foot, her long blonde hair was almost gone and in its place
short red hair. "What's going on..." said Justin. "Holy crap, I sound
just like you!"
"That's not all," said Laura as she reached between her legs grabbing
an obvious new set of equipment. At this Justin reached down, in time
to feel a sucking sensation in his groin, his groping fingers found
only empty material as he pulled at the crotch of his jeans. In the
rush of sensations and changes Justin had failed to notice the tingling
in his chest, but at this point it was too much to ignore. Reaching up
he cupped a set of small high breasts for the first time. This was all
too much for Justin to process, he started to feel light headed, and
the world began to spin. A set of strong hands gripped his shoulders.
"Deep breaths, here lie down on the couch." The voice sounded familiar
but Justin closed his eyes and focused on breathing.
Becky in Laura's body walked down the hallway to the bathroom and
spotted the open door to Justin's room. Looking back over her shoulder
to make sure no one noticed she ducked into his room. Becky locked the
door and glanced around. Spotting the shirt Justin had worn while
running she scooped it up and sat down on Justin's bed. Draping the
medallion over her head Becky touched it to Justin's shirt and felt the
familiar shock. Making sure to keep the shirt in contact with the
medallion she lay back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. In a
few minutes she started to feel the changes.
Justin opened his eyes and thought what a weird dream, I thought for a
second I'd been turned into a girl. "How are you doing honey?" asked a
guy who sounded very familiar to Justin.
Looking up Justin saw his own face staring back down at him. "What the
hell is going on?"
"I'm Laura," his doppelg?nger said ,"you're in Becky's body and I'm in
yours. We didn't tell you everything, you see Becky found this
artifact called the medallion of Zulo and she used it to switch with me
to try to get you to agree to beat up Todd. I told her you wouldn't."
"Wait a second," said Justin sitting up, "you're Laura, I thought you
were Becky!"
"Becky switched with me last night. She said that if you agreed to
take care of Todd she'd switch us back. If you said no then I had to
switch with you or else," said Laura.
"Or else what?" Justin asked.
"I'm not sure, I didn't want to push her," Laura replied. "You don't
understand she was so traumatized and she's been suppressing it, acting
like nothing happened. I don't know what she's capable of but I'm
afraid of what she might do. All she talks about is getting revenge on
Todd. Please don't do anything stupid."
Justin took a deep breath feeling his nipples rub against the rough
fabric of his sweat shirt. Unconsciously he reached up and rubbed them
shocking himself into the present. "Breasts, I've got breasts!"
"Yes, and they're quite nice," came a male voice from the hallway, "if
I do say so myself. Not to sound too narcissistic but I'm pretty damn
hot," said Becky.
Justin's head swiveled back and forth between Becky and Laura. Both
looked just like him, except that Laura was wearing the same clothes
she had worn into his house, it made it look like he was trying to
cross dress, but doing it badly. Becky dressed in grey sweat pants and
a clean white muscle shirt sauntered into the room. There was
something odd, beyond the fact that he was looking at identical copies
of himself, somehow Becky looked far more comfortable not just the
clothes but the way she moved, how she held herself, the way she-no-he
walked it all screamed male. "Laura, why don't you go into Justin's
bed room and change into some clothes that don't make you look silly?
Justin and I need to talk," said Becky.
Laura walked past Becky swishing her hips and swinging her arms out
instead of front to back like a guy. It was like looking at a girly
version of himself, this can't be real thought Justin. He stood up and
faced Becky folding his arms across his chest. This however, just made
him squish his new assets so he dropped his hands to his sides and took
a step toward Becky stumbling, damn jeans! Justin reached out to grab
the arm rest of the couch and again miss judged his reach falling
awkwardly back onto the couch. Feeling humiliated he was aware his
breasts as they bobbed about.
"Having trouble adjusting?" smirked Becky. "Don't worry you'll feel
better soon. The magic of the medallion helps."
"Change us back!" demanded Justin from the couch. "I'm sorry that you
were assaulted, but Laura and I didn't do anything to hurt you."
For a second Becky looked uncertain. "I'm not going to leave you like
that, I'm doing this to protect you as much as to get revenge. Besides
we can't change again for 12 hours, so I couldn't change you right now
even if I wanted to."
"Protect me, what a laugh!" said Justin.
Becky scowled, "I'm going to get revenge but I don't want you or Laura
to suffer. You don't understand," she said walking angrily across the
room to look out the back window glancing down at the deck and pool in
the back yard. "I've always been athletic. My parents are both
doctors and very busy, so growing up they had me in ballet, jazz,
dance, soccer, volley ball, girl scouts, and voice lessons. You name
it any type of activity that was acceptable for girls they would
schedule. But they never had much time for me. All of those lessons
and none of it helped when I was with Todd. He was high and he
wouldn't stop. I fought him, and then he started to punch and kick me.
I wasn't strong enough to fight him off and I didn't know how to defend
myself. I refused to submit so he kept hitting me in the face. He
said that he would make me ugly before he was done. I don't know if it
was the meth that made him crazy or what but at some point I passed
out. I don't even remember the rape. I know he did it though because
I've never been so sore in my life."
Turning to face Justin, Becky said, "I will not let him win. Tonight
he will pay, and the best part is now I can do it myself!"
"Okay, what he did was awful but you're stealing my body! I never did
anything to hurt you," Justin said hating the way his voice sounded,
petulant like a spoiled rich girl.
"I know that's why this plan is perfect. Once Laura gets back I'll
explain everything. I'm going out to my car. I've got a duffel bag
with a set of clothes for you." With that she headed out the front
door.
Justin hitched up his pants and walked awkwardly to the dining room
window to watch Becky not trusting her/him for a minute. Becky was
back inside in no time with a light blue duffel.
"There's a clean set of lingerie plus shorts and a tank, casual and
pretty, just what you'll need."
Feeling confused and uncomfortable in the current oversized outfit
Justin grabbed the bag and walked into the bathroom shutting and
locking the door behind him.
Looking into the mirror Justin froze in shock. Staring back was Becky,
long blonde hair disheveled. Her features were classically beautiful,
perfect nose, blue eyes, high cheek bones with a chin that came to a
delicate point. Lifting his hand to touch his face he watched the girl
in the mirror touch her face. This is not possible he thought again,
but the girl in the mirror stared back at him. Well I've wondered what
she looks like naked, I guess I'll get to see now. The irony of the
situation caused him to lose it in a fit of hysterical giggles. Sides
hurting from laughing, Justin pulled the sweat shirt off and dropped
his oversized jeans to the floor. Standing there in his boxers Justin
stared at Becky, she was thin with great muscle tone. Her breasts
looked perfectly sized to her body. Becky's thin waist with slim
athletic hips that flared out slightly in a uniquely feminine figure
was stunning. Looking down Justin slipped the boxers to the floor and
saw the small barely visible triangle of blonde hair that led to an
area or pink skin that Justin's mind seemed to rebel against
acknowledging. This is so weird, turning away from the mirror he bent
over watching his breasts swing out and unzipped the bag looking at the
clothes Becky had packed for him. "You've got to be kidding me,"
Justin muttered holding up the tan colored bra and matching panties.
"How the heck do I put this on?"
After half a dozen attempts to hook the bra's tiny hooks behind his
back Justin figured out that if he turned the bra around he could hook
it in front of him. Then he could spin it back around and slip his
arms through the straps and settle his breasts into the cups. After
that the panties with the string in his butt crack almost seemed like a
relief, at least they were easy to put on. Next came the tan shorts
and light blue tank that showed off Justin's flat abdomen and brought
out the blue in his eyes. The last thing he spotted in the bag was a
set of flat sandals. Now dressed and feeling more comfortable yet
incredibly weird Justin walked back into the living room.
Sitting on the couch Justin saw himself in baggy cargo shorts and grey
polo shirt. That's got to be Laura, Justin thought since she had her
legs crossed with one leg over the knee of the other in a way that
Justin had never sat in his life. The other clone was standing behind
the chair in the living room, and it was apparent to Justin he had
interrupted an argument.
The person Justin assumed was Laura stood up and stepped toward him.
"Justin how are you doing?"
"I'm breathing," he retorted angrily. "So what is this plan, for you
to get revenge and for Laura and me to be 'safe'."
Becky looking confident said, "You Becky," he nodding to Justin, "and
you, Justin," he now nodded at Laura, "will take Justin's mustang and
head into Mobile. Go to the mall, use your ATM card, have lunch, use
your credit card, and see a movie. Keep all the receipts. You're
setting up an alibi. If there is video of Justin and Becky at an ATM
machine in the mall in Mobile then you can't be here. Spend the day at
the Mall and met me back here at 7 pm. At that point we all switch
back into our original bodies."
"That's it, that's your great plan," Justin screeched.
"What will you be doing while we're at the mall?" asked Laura.
"It's better if I don't tell you. Just be back here at 7 pm and we'll
all switch back. It's 8 am right now, so the two hour drive to Mobil
is perfect you'll get there just as it opens."
"Okay, Becky we'll play along. I don't think we've got any choice, but
I want to hold onto the medallion. If something happens to you it's
our only way back," said Justin.
"Then you'll have to hope that nothing happens to me. I need the
medallion so you can't have it," Becky replied. "Everything will be
fine, now get going."
Justin looked over at Laura from the passenger seat of his Stang, the
widows were rolled up and the a/c was on it was already in the 90s even
though it was September. However as the cold air from the a/c hit his
light tank Justin noticed it made his nipples get hard. God this feels
like two tiny erections, he shuddered. Laura catching the shiver from
the corner of her eye reached out and turned the a/c down.
"Are you cold?" Laura asked.
"No, I'm fine and don't do that," Justin replied.
"Don't do what?" Laura asked.
"Don't hold your head like that, it makes me look, I don't know gay or
something," said Justin gritting his teeth.
Laura snorted and focused on the highway. "I don't understand
something, why does Becky seem so much like me? I mean the way she
walks, how she talks, her gestures; everything is like a perfect copy.
When I look at you it's like looking at a feminized version of me. You
still walk like a girl, the way you hold your head, the way you swing
your arms I don't get it."
"Becky told me that the longer the medallion touches either the skin or
clothes of the person your being turned into the more that comes
through. The minimum is the physical, but the longer the contact the
more you get memories, skills, mannerisms all of that. While we were
in the living room, changing, I think Becky went to your room and found
some of your clothes and changed. She probably held your clothes for
most of the transformation because she wants your skills as well as
your body," Laura replied.
"Argh, this is a nightmare," growled Justin.
"Why because you're a girl?" asked Laura.
"Yes!"
"What's wrong with being a girl?" Laura said sounding offended.
Nothing if you were born one! You can't tell me you enjoy being a
guy," Justin retorted.
Laura chuckled. "Honestly, I'm totally uncomfortable, how do you
manage to keep that thing," she waived vaguely at her lap, "in place?
It's like it's got a mind of its own."
Becky walked through Justin's house feeling a sense of deja-vu every
room felt familiar to him. Knowing that he had several hours to kill
Becky started looking for things to do. I might as well check out this
body, he thought. Becky soon found himself in the basement, wow, this
is like having your own health gym he thought looking around. Seeing
the heavy bag Becky walked over and threw a punch. Generating power
from his leg, he got his hips and back into the punch driving his fist
into the bag. After this nothing could stop Becky from working the bag
over. He found a pair of gloves to one side, and spent the next 20
minutes kicking and punching.
Feeling winded but good Becky put the gloves up and walked over to the
sliding glass doors that led from the basement onto the patio and deck
behind the house. Once outside he spotted the pool in the back yard.
Becky had seen it from the upstairs window she had always loved to swim
and it felt like Justin must as well. Walking to the edge of the pool
Becky stripped off his clothes and dove in without a self-conscious
thought. The house was relatively secluded from its neighbors and the
backyard had a privacy fence. Becky didn't give these things a thought
instead he cut through the water faster than he had ever done before.
Reaching the far end of the pool Becky ducked performing an underwater
summersault kicking away from the wall like a pro. Turning upside down
underwater had always left Becky with water up her nose, now it was no
problem as he surged back down the length of the pool with powerful
strokes.
The day had passed quickly for Becky. After working out and getting
cleaned up, he had headed into Justin's bedroom and turned on his
computer. The password popped into Becky's head and he logged on in no
time. Firing up Google Becky did more research on the medallion of
Zulo, when he had first accidentally discovered the medallion, he'd
freaked out. Standing there in her house in Pual's body had been
impossible. She had soon realized that it was the medallion and had
started researching. Now he dug through online articles again trying
to see if the plan he was considering would be possible. Convinced
that it was Becky headed out, he had a couple of stops to make and then
a meeting with Todd.
At the mall food court Laura was laughing at Justin. "You think I make
you look like a sissy, I've never seen Becky so butch!"
Justin snorted, "Ok, I've never tried to act like a girl. What am I
doing wrong?"
"Well for one thing girls don't sit with their legs spread like that,"
said Laura gesturing at how Justin was seated. "For another we don't
shovel food into our mouths like we haven't eaten for days," she
replied. "I'll make you a deal," Laura continued, "let's pretend this
is Halloween and we are dressed costumes. Let's both do our best to
act in character."
Justin was surprised to find himself grinning at Laura, her enthusiasm
was infectious. "Okay, where should we go first? Victoria's Secret?"
Justin joked.
"That would probably be educational for you," responded Laura, "but
let's try something less extreme. What do you say to a trip to the
book store?"
Nodding Justin stood up. "Let's go."
It was seven, and still pretty light in the state park where Todd had
parked his van. This was one of his favorite places to hang out and
get high. Usually people, who knew him, and what he had to sell would
