AF: As Luck Would Have It By Bashful What can I say about Jerry? He's one of the unluckiest men I know. He's also one of the nicest. He tries so hard to do the right thing and it seems it always backfires on him and those that make the mistake of standing too close to him. I think the one story that best exemplifies Jerry's brand of luck is the twenty-dollar bill incident. It was a windy day, Jerry and I were crossing the street when a twenty-dollar bill blew right up to Jerry and stuck itself under the edge of his shoe. "Hey Chad! Look at this, a twenty dollar bill!" Jerry stooped over to pick it up and his glasses slipped off his face and hit the asphalt, cracking one lens. "Damn it! Now I have to get my glasses fixed." Jerry was effectively blind without his glasses. At least he had one lens that was still good and that would get him to the nearest optician. Jerry was about to pocket the twenty dollars when a little girl ran up. "Mister, that's my money, the wind blew it out of my hand. See it has my name on it." Jerry looked at the bill and sure enough it said 'Happy Birthday Jenni', the little girl grinned at him and said, "I'm Jenni." She then took the money and ran back to her mother who waved to Jerry and me. It cost Jerry forty dollars to have the lens in his glasses replaced. I've known Jerry for more than fifteen years. We grew up together and always hung out in school and afterwards. We were sharing an apartment when he came up with his latest scheme. Now you might think that I have a few loose screws staying with a guy like Jerry but the fact of the matter is, he's one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. He's got a heart of gold. He gives away too much money to charities but he figures what goes around, comes around. He believes that one day his altruism will pay off and even if it doesn't, he's helped people out. Like I said, a nice guy, a real nice guy. Jerry came running into the apartment that we share one afternoon excited and talking way too fast. I've learned to be very cautious when he's like this. He's very persuasive and can talk a lot of people into doing things they normally wouldn't. If he could do that for a profit he would be a great salesman but it's not that easy. Jerry has to believe in something to sell you on it. He doesn't get this passionate about many things. Anyway, Jerry came bounding in, yelling my name. "CHAD, CHAD, oh, there you are. WE'RE GOING TO BE RICH, YEE HAW!!!" "Jerry, tone it down, I'm in the same room with you. Sit down and relax, take some deep breaths and then tell me what you are talking about." If you don't calm Jerry down he'll go off on a tangent and you may not figure out what he's yelling about for hours. Jerry sat down, took a half dozen deep breaths, then I asked him what he was so excited about. He jumped back to his feet and began screaming again. "WE'RE GOING TO BE RICH, WE'RE GOING TO BE RICH!" I gave up, knowing he would calm down sooner or later. I did what I've found to be the most effective tool in dealing with Jerry when he's like this, I ignored him. That worked after about twenty minutes. "Chad, don't you even want to know how we're going to be rich?" he asked me. "Sure, go ahead and tell me," I said. "We're going to bring back Elvis!" "Jerry, Elvis impersonators are a dime a dozen. I love Elvis, I wish I had gotten to see him perform live but he died when we were two years old. He was great, he'll always be 'The King' but he's dead and his time has passed. I'm sorry to throw water on your dream but that's the truth." I hate to discourage Jerry, he's such a wonderful guy and so enthusiastic, if he could just be that way when it came to his jobs. Jerry lost a job on average about every six months. It comes from him being such a nice guy. He winds up giving something away when he should be selling it or missing work to help out someone who needed it. "Okay, I agree with everything that you said, but what if Elvis was to make a comeback? If we could control something like that, wouldn't we be rich? C'mon Chad, wouldn't that make us rich?" "Yes Jerry, if you could reincarnate Elvis and get him to work for you, yes, you would be rich," I agreed. Of course, if you won the lottery, you would be rich too and the odds for that were much better only 15,000,000 to 1. "Then shake hands with a future wealthy man, and you'll be wealthy too!" Jerry started jumping around yelling again. I was tired of it so I grabbed him and forced him to sit down and explain himself. "Chad, I found a Medallion that can change anyone into anyone else. It's magic, it's mine and it works. I swear to you is does. Look, I can prove it." Jerry took this cheap, gaudy looking, pendant out of his pocket and put it on. It had a figure that looked like an angel or a fairy holding a wand on one side and it hung from a heavy brass or maybe copper chain. Then he took a pair of pink panties out of his other pocket and touched them to the Medallion. Jerry kept smiling at me and I just looked at him. He wasn't yelling so I was content to wait until he began to explain what he was talking about. After a few minutes, I realized something was happening to Jerry. His hair was growing back in. Jerry was mostly bald, with just few wisps of brown hair on his head. Considering he was just twenty-nine, it's just another piece of evidence of how unlucky he is. The hair wasn't the only change. He was shrinking, Jerry is about 6' 2'' but not heavy. His clothes were looking much looser on him as the minutes past. Because he's so large, his loose clothing masked some of the other changes his body was going through. His face was changing also. The light beard stubble was gone and his nose had shrunk and straightened itself out. He'd broken it when he was fifteen and then again when he was twenty. That's Jerry's luck, what can I say. When the changes were finished, Jerry looked like a girl, a very pretty girl! "See I told you it works, am I a hottie or what?" Jerry jumped up and pulled his shirt off to expose two of the most perfect breasts I had ever seen. At the same time, his now over sized jeans fell to the floor, displaying a smooth flat stomach and a perfectly formed inverted triangle of curly hair above a crotch devoid of any male equipment. "Jerry, why did you become a woman?" I asked in dismay. "I figured this was the best way to prove to you how completely the Medallion can change you. Right now I'm a girl, a genetic girl. I look just like the girl who wore these panties last. What do you think, pretty cute, huh?" I was floored, my best friend had just turned himself into a girl, one pretty enough that I was already getting a boner just looking at her, I mean him. I sat down quickly to try and cover my stiff member that was 'tent poling' the front of my jeans. "I guess I am cute or you wouldn't have a hard on, huh?" Jerry said. He said it in one of the sweetest, sexiest voices I've heard. "Who'd you get a pair of panties from?" I asked. Jerry's luck with women was no better than his luck with anything else. "I helped that girl that lived upstairs move last year, remember? I found these in the car after we were done. I just kept them." I remembered Jerry helping the girl move. He threw his back out for a week, and lost his job for missing the week's worth of work. All he got for moving the girl fifty miles was a kiss on the cheek. Now he had her body or a copy of it but he was inside that body so what good was that? "Jerry, how is this going to bring Elvis back?" I asked. "No wait, would you put some clothes on please." "Sure, be right back." Jerry, or the girl he now was, ran towards his bedroom. He left his shoes and his socks along with the other clothes that he had taken off or that had fallen off his new and sexy body. Jerry returned in a moment in a dress! "Jerry, where'd you get the dress? Did the girl leave that in your car too?" "No, Chad, there's something I need to tell you, you better sit down. It's going to sound a little weird." Now you tell me, how much weirder could it get? I sat down though because like I said, I've known Jerry for a long time. If he says it can get weirder, then it probably will. "Chad, for a long time, I've wondered what it would be like to be a girl. I tried crossdressing but I'm not very pretty as a girl, before today. Anyway, that's where the dress came from, I have a few items of female clothing." I took a minute to look Jerry over. He had put on a simple, denim dress that appeared to wrap around his body and then it tied in the front like a robe. It came to just above his knees but it was probably shorter on Jerry when he was a guy. Jerry now had a full head of shoulder length brown hair that seemed to have some natural curl to it. His breasts pushed the front of the dress out appreciably. Like I said, they were terrific breasts. His legs were pretty nice to and well? Jerry was one hot woman now. I've said a lot about Jerry's bad luck. I guess you could say that I wasn't the luckiest person around either. I mean, I had my share of bad luck too. Maybe that's why I hung around with Jerry, we seemed to fit together. Fit together, that made me think about Jerry being a great looking woman and how long, how very long, I had gone since I had been in bed with any woman. I had never had a chance to make love to a woman as attractive as Jerry was now. "Anyway," Jerry continued, "I have been reading stories on the Internet written by people like me. Regular guys who just wonder what being a woman is like. Also men who feel they are women in male bodies and others who like to cross dress and can pass as women. Then there are others who just 'lurk' and read the stories. That's how I found out about the Medallion. I thought they were just stories about this Medallion that can change people. The way it works is you wear the Medallion and touch a piece of clothing to it. Then you become the person who last wore that piece of clothing, like you saw happen to me just now." "You can also swap places with another person. One person wears the Medallion and the other person touches it, then they become each other. Their bodies change into the other person." Jerry was walking around the room as he talked. I noticed that he was wearing a pair of high heels, they looked a little large but he wasn't having any trouble walking in them. "So you wanted to change into a girl and now what, will you be one forever?" I have to say that I was beginning to think along the lines that Jerry and I could still be roommates but maybe we could get a single bedroom apartment and save some money. I shook my head to clear the thoughts but it didn't work. Jerry pursed his lips when he thought and he was doing that now, my God what sexy lips she, I mean, he had. 'This is Jerry, he's a guy, remember?' I thought to myself, not that it did any good. "No, I just want a chance to see what it's like. I just have to wait twelve hours to change back. I know you've got to be thinking I'm all kinds of twisted but I won't make you get involved in this. I just wanted to demonstrate the Medallion so you'd know it works. I assume you believe me?" Jerry asked. The sweet smile he had on that angelic face sent an arrow through my heart. I would have believed anything this woman would have said to me if she smiled at me like that. 'Stop that!' I said to myself. 'This is Jerry, not some chick you want to screw.' I was lying to myself of course, I did want to screw her but she wasn't really a her, she was a he, she was Jerry and that was the rub. The argument I was having with myself was giving me a headache. I couldn't stop staring at Jerry and I didn't want to but I had to get my mind on something else before I did or said something stupid. "Jerry, you still haven't said how this is going to bring Elvis back." I pointed out. Jerry sat down and crossed his legs. That sped my heart up a few beats per second. I wondered how Jerry could hear me speak over the sound my heart must be making, pounding away like it was. "I found a jacket that Elvis wore when he was making "Viva Las Vegas". It's been in a storage facility at an old MGM storage lot. I bought it for just $500.00. We can use the jacket to change you into Elvis, you do a great Elvis impersonation, and you know a bunch of his songs." Jerry said. That killed the mood for me right there. "Jerry, we don't have $500.00, where did you?Jerry, did you pay the rent today like you said you were going to? That's what I gave you the money for last night, remember?" "I went to the office the first thing this morning and it was closed while Sheila was showing an apartment to a new tenant. I went for a short drive and saw the yard sale where I bought the Medallion. I knew it was real, I just knew it was. That's when I went and bought the jacket from the guy that had it. I was going to buy it for you for your birthday, I knew you were a real big Elvis fan. Now it seemed even a better idea to buy it." I tried to keep from screaming. "You bought that Medallion and without even checking to see if it worked, you bought the jacket? What the hell is the matter with you, what if the Medallion didn't work?" "But it did, now all we need to do is change you into Elvis and then rent a theater and have a comeback show. One performance is all that is should take. We'll have record companies lined up to sign Elvis up, then it's easy street for both of us." Jerry said. She punctuated the last word by uncrossing and re-crossing her legs and then smiling at me. I was lost after that. I agreed that we could probably get a theater hired and print some flyers. It'd take some overtime to get the money together but Jerry had a job right now so we would be able to make it, if he could just hold the job for a few weeks. I wasn't sure what we would do about the rent. Sheila, Mrs. Frampton, was not very understanding when it came to late rent, especially when the $500.00 was three months worth plus late fees. It was a cheap apartment but it was home. I decided that I would worry about that tomorrow. Right now, my best friend was the best looking woman I had seen in months and he was interested in exploring his feminine side. I was going to offer to help, just be a friend, you know? "Jerry about this wanting to see what being a woman is like?I, uh?that is?I?" "Chad, say no more, I understand completely. I have to wait twelve hours before I can change back and my appearance obviously upsets you. I have no intention of making you uncomfortable any longer." Jerry walked out of the room before I could say anything else. In a minute he was back, wearing lipstick now and carrying a purse. "Chad, I'll see you tomorrow, good night." Jerry said and walked out the door. I tripped on the coffee table trying to catch him and stop him. He didn't have to leave, I was going to help. By the time I got back on my feet, Jerry was gone, I could hear his old Buick wheezing down the street. I went back inside and sat down, depressed. I just missed out on sex with a beautiful woman that wouldn't care if I never called her again and wouldn't be calling me all the time, not that I ever had that problem before. I waited up for Jerry to come home and fell asleep on the couch. I woke up with a blanket spread over me and the smell of bacon frying. I jumped up and ran into the kitchen and saw Jerry standing there, wearing an apron over his underwear, his jockey shorts. He was a man again. "Good morning, you looked so peaceful that when I came in, I didn't wake you, I just draped the blanket over you. How did you sleep?" Jerry said. "Fine, I slept fine, how did last night go? Did you find a guy to?" I didn't finish the question, he knew what I meant. I also noticed something was wrong with my throat, my voice seemed deeper. "Yes and no. I met a guy just as the bar closed but I found out he was married so I came back home. My luck as a girl isn't any better than it is as a guy. Oh well, I'll try it again when we get set up and rich." Jerry said. I looked at him and sighed, I'd worry about it later. For now I wanted to make sure that we had a place to live. "I need to go talk to Mrs. Frampton and try and get a few more days to pay our rent then I need to ask my boss for an advance again to try and pay her something. What are you smiling about?" I said. Jerry had this shit eating grin on his face. "Uh, Chad, before you go talk to anyone, you might want to take a look in the mirror." I got a bad feeling about what Jerry meant by that and grabbed my chest but it was still flat. Heaving a sigh of relief I went into the bathroom to look in the mirror. What I saw was Elvis! Jerry had changed me into Elvis! The Elvis from the early sixties, like the picture on the postage stamp. I had the lean, trim body that made the girls all swoon in the newsreel footage I had seen. Jerry was standing near the door grinning at me when I turned around again. "How did you did you do this?" I asked when I could speak again. Now I understood where the deeper voice came from. "With the Medallion of course. I wanted to prove to you that my idea would work, now I have. Will you help me? You're the perfect one to be Elvis. Hey, maybe someday I could even find something Pricilla wore from the same time period?" Jerry said. That got my heart to pounding again. As cute as the girl Jerry became last night was, Pricilla Presley was an even bigger turn on. Especially one that was about thirty five years younger than she was today. "I'm in, and Jerry you're right, this one is going to make us rich. How long before I can change back into Chad? I don't want anyone to see me like this, not yet," I said. "About 2:30pm. I changed you when I came home last night before I changed back myself. To be honest, I was hoping that Elvis would wake up and change my luck, if you know what I mean? You were sleeping like a baby though so I didn't try to wake you. I didn't want you to be upset with me. Oops, gonna be late for work!" Jerry ran out the front door just then. Given another minute, I would have explained to Jerry that I would be glad to help him find out what a woman feels, but he was gone. I didn't have to worry about being late. I worked from 3pm to 11pm. I went into the kitchen and finished fixing my breakfast and then I began making plans for the biggest comeback in history. I used the Medallion at 2:30 and sure enough, I was changing back into Chad. I was about the same size as a 1964 version of Elvis so I dressed and headed to work, by the time I got there, I was completely changed. I called around and found the biggest theater we could possibly afford. I used the computer at work to design the flyers and got the best deal I could from a printer who would duplicate the flyers and then hired his son and a dozen friends to distribute them around town. This was a small potatoes show the way we were forced to do it but it was just the beginning. Once the word got out, people would be paying us to come and appear. It wasn't the easiest three months of our lives. For one thing, we got evicted. I never went and spoke to Mrs. Frampton about paying the rent like I had intended to. I wouldn't have paid it anyway, we needed the money for the show. Jerry and I started living in my old Chevy van. I had a membership to the YMCA so we could go there in the gym and shower. We ate out and scrimped and saved every dime. It was going to be worth it in the end and it was, it just wasn't the ending we had planned. The day of the show finally arrived and I was pumped. It was ten hours to show time and I was about to make the change into Elvis. We decided that it would be better not to let anyone see 'Elvis' up close at first. If they got fingerprints or something, then the nonsense about him not really being dead would start all over again. I was going to change long before the show and then I could change right afterwards and Chad would be the one leaving the theater. We found out that we couldn't advertise Elvis Presley, the name was copyrighted and protected by trademarks. We could advertise the world's best Elvis impersonator, which is what we did. Once the truth came out, it wouldn't matter what we called the performer, people would be dying to see him. We priced the tickets low to fill the theater. Just enough to break even if we sold out. What we wanted was a review of the show by the newspaper arts editor. He was old enough to have seen Elvis live and we made sure he got a special invitation to the show. Just before I was going to change into Elvis, there was a knock at the door. Jerry was standing there with a guy and a girl. The guy was Stan, someone Jerry had hired for backstage security. The girl was pretty in a very wholesome way, your typical girl next door. She had curly blonde hair, bright blue eyes and a trim little figure. She had nice breasts, a slim waist and good legs; cute was the best word for her, cute and sweet. "Chad, Stan and Pricilla wanted to say hi," Jerry said. "Oh, I had hoped we would get to see you in your costume and makeup," Pricilla said. "I've been a fan of Elvis as long as I could remember. My mother is a real big fan. She met him once after a show and he kissed her cheek. She named me Pricilla after his wife, she would have named me Elvis if I had been a boy." Pricilla smiled showing the cutest pair of dimples I had ever seen. "Stan and Pricilla just got married. I gave Stan the job because he needed the money," Jerry said. Like I've said all along, Jerry was the nicest guy. We're living in a van and he's worried about a pair of young people who just got married. "Come back after the show, Pricilla and I'll let you met Elvis up close." I promised Pricilla. "Oh, that would be great! Is that really one of Elvis's jackets? Stan showed it to me earlier before you got here. He said it was one Elvis wore when he made "Viva Las Vegas" I loved that movie, of course, I love all of his movies." I got another glimpse of the dimples and then Jerry shooed them out the door. "What were they doing in here earlier Jerry? If someone had taken the jacket, we'd be screwed, how would I have changed into Elvis?" "They were here because I hired Stan as security, remember? And if the jacket disappeared, you could use the jump suit costume you've been practicing in. If you recall, I made you take that off before you changed back the last time so that we would have a back up. I may be unlucky but I do learn from my mistakes. Whoever wore the item last, that's who you change into. Elvis wore the jump suit and the jacket last. Now get changed and lets get the show on the road," Jerry said. I stripped down to my jockey shorts and put the Medallion around my neck. I then touched the sleeve of the jumpsuit to the Medallion and felt the tingle that accompanies every change. Once I was sure the change was started, I put on the jumpsuit. The show was a huge success. We had sold out thanks to the low ticket price and the crowd went wild when I walked on stage. I wound up doing three encores and finally had to stop because I was exhausted. People crowded into the backstage area, wanting to meet 'Elvis'. We had four solid offers for shows in the next week and more to come. We had done it, the dark cloud that hung over Jerry and my heads was gone and only sunshine and green pastures lay ahead. Right, which's why I'm writing about it, we all lived happily ever after, sure. Okay, we did, like I said though, just not the way we had planned We had cleared everyone out of the dressing room so I could change back into Chad. Of course we didn't want anyone knowing how we brought Elvis back. I had just put the Medallion on when there was a knock at the door. "It's Stan and Pricilla, you promised she could meet Elvis," Jerry said. I had promised and she was such a nice girl, I agreed. Besides, I wanted a chance to see those dimples again. "You really are Elvis, I don't believe it, you really are, oh, Mr. Presley!" Pricilla flung herself at me and wrapped her arms around my neck. She kissed my cheek and then stepped back, blushing. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that, please forgive me," she said. "No harm done, little lady," I said and she smiled, there were those dimples. I leaned over and kissed her cheek that's when it happened. I had hung the Medallion inside the open jumpsuit before she came in so when she hugged me, nothing happened. When I leaned over to kiss her cheek, the Medallion fell out and brushed against Pricilla. I felt the tingle signaling a change was starting. I looked at Jerry and grabbed the Medallion at the same time, he guessed what must have happened and chased the Stan and Pricilla out of the room. "Jerry, you have to get them back here, she's going to change into Elvis, we have to?" "Sit down Chad, we need to talk," Jerry said. It was the tone of voice he used when he was about to tell me about something really bad that had happened. "Chad, there's more to the legend of the Medallion than I told you. it doesn't work on certain people at certain times. Pricilla won't be changing but you will. It doesn't work on women who are having a period or who are?" I can't blame him for pausing, I wouldn't want to say it either. "WHAT JERRY? WHY WON'T SHE CHANGE TOO? WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME?" Yeah, I was shouting, I could feel my hair tickling my neck and I knew it was turning blonde. I thought I could feel the dimples forming but you really don't feel anything during the change. "The reason I hired Stan and the reason Pricilla won't change is she's pregnant. The Medallion won't work on pregnant women." Jerry said. It took a moment to sink in then I passed out. When I woke up, I was a duplicate of Pricilla, including the month old fetus in my new womb. We had some money from the show so we got a motel room. In the morning we discovered that someone had stolen the van with all of our clothes. The police later found it gutted and burned. There was nothing left that I had worn as Chad. I couldn't go back to being myself. I knew I didn't have to remain a woman after I gave birth but I would never be Chad again. Jerry showed me how to dress and wear makeup. I picked out the name Katie; I just pointed to it in a book of names. Jerry helped me get some ID, it wasn't perfect but it was enough for me to get a job as a waitress. I found out that my dimples helped me get tips so I smiled a lot at work. It wasn't easy, the morning sickness was the worst part but then something happened that made me feel differently about the whole mess. I was at work and I was just beginning to show. I yelped when it happened and one of the other girls came running. "What happened?" Pauline asked. "I just felt something kick me, inside," I said. "That wasn't 'something' honey, that was that baby of yours. It's just letting you know it's there and it loves its mommy," she said with a smile. I started crying, right there. Up until then I had looked on this as a burden on me. Just more of the bad luck that Jerry and I had endured all our lives. Now I realized there was more than just myself to care about, I had a child to take care of. I was going to put it up for adoption as soon as it was born but I still owed the child every chance to be born healthy. I worked as long as I could but the first time the doctor said quit, I did. Jerry stood by me through the pregnancy. He found a salesman's job and he's held it for over nine months now. He even got a promotion and a big raise last week. Responsibility seems to have settled him down quite a bit. I began thinking about Jerry too. He had been more than a friend to me in the past few months. We decided that we should use natural childbirth. Studies showed it was better for the baby. We attended La Maze classes together. We dated, after a fashion, going to movies and dinner. I mean, we were living together but nothing ever came of it. Jerry would rub my feet when I came home from work but he never got overly friendly. I noticed Jerry looking at the other women in our La Maze class. He had this wistful look on his face. I knew what he was thinking so I decided to help him out. I went to the Good Will store and waited until I saw a pretty woman try on a dress and then not buy it. It fit her, she just didn't like it I guess. I bought the dress and took it home and that night I surprised Jerry. "Here, I want you to take this dress and the Medallion and go out and enjoy yourself." I handed Jerry the dress and the Medallion. He looked at Medallion and then he looked at me. "I never lied to you except once, that was the day after I found the Medallion. I told you I couldn't find anyone to sleep with. I could have gone home with anyone of a dozen guys. I realized a couple of things. If I was going to make love to a man, I wanted that man to be Chad. The other thing I realized was I like thinking about it and I like reading stories but I really didn't want to be a woman. I was scared to death in that body. Some fantasies are best-left fantasies. Like the dog who chases cars, he doesn't know what to do if he caught one." About this time I realized that we hadn't had any more incidents of bad luck for a while and we still haven't. Oh, little things sure like breaking a plate or stubbing a toe but nothing like the van being stolen and burned or the night I became Katie. Was that bad luck? I no longer think so. The baby was a little girl and we named her Jesse. Jerry is as proud as if he were her natural father. Despite what he said earlier, Jerry offered to swap places with me after the baby was born. In the beginning, I would have done it, by the end of the pregnancy though, I wouldn't think of it. Feeling a life growing inside of you is such a wondrous thing. I never wanted to be woman but now I wouldn't change back for anything. I kept the baby, I couldn't give her up after I saw her. Jerry sold the Medallion and bought a crib. Jerry proposed and we got married the day I left the hospital after the birth. Tonight we're doing something special. It's just a month after the baby was born and my OB-GYN told me it okay to have sex. He said 'again' but it's really the first time for me, as a woman. I'm really looking forward to it. With luck, I'll be pregnant again soon. The End

ALTERED FATES: AGENT ZULO by BobH (c) 2011 "Yes, baby, oh yes!!" I moaned, bending over the motel room desk as my partner took me from behind, grasping my hips and snorting as he rammed himself into me. Having shot his load he pulled out of me and sat down heavily on the bed, sweating...

Altered Fates Triptych

Altered Fates: Triptych By BobH (c) 2003 Lucius Duvall checked his reflection and nodded his approval at what he saw. His hair and beard might have long since turned silver grey, giving him an illusion of age and wisdom that, in terms of age at least, was beyond his years, but both were immaculately trimmed, their edges razor-sharp. His suit was tailored to perfection, the trouser creases sharp and straight; his shoes polished to an almost mirror-finish; the carnation in...

Altered FatesXFiles The Scam

ALTERED FATES/X-FILES: THE SCAM By Bob H. (c) 2003 FBI HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON, DC. FBI agent Fox Mulder was starting to hate working alone. Hidden away as he was in the windowless room of a back basement accessible only via a corridor lined with dusty storage racks, he often felt both unappreciated and as forgotten as many in the bureau would like the X-files themselves to be. He sometimes went days without seeing another living soul between the time he entered the J. Edgar...

Altered Fates The Things we do for Friends

Altered Fates: The Things We Do For Friends part 1 of 5 By Morpheus I stood in the school bathroom with my half soapy hands underneath the water faucet, grimacing as I rinsed them off. Then pausing for a second, I looked up and into the mirror that was hung on the wall in front of me. The same familiar 14 year old boy that I always saw looked back at me with a sour expression. His messy brown hair was in need of a cut and his nose still had blood dripping from it. "Shit."...

Altered Fates A Complicated Affair

Altered Fates: A Complicated Affair By Theunknownauthor Everything you are about to read is true! Every person, place or thing that is mentioned in this account is real, although I am changing the names and not giving any exact locations. I am doing this so that readers won't try to verify the validity of this story on their own. This isn't an easy story for me to tell, but I feel that I need to get it off my chest. For almost a year now I have been reading various accounts...

ALTERED FATES: THE X-FILE REOPENED by BobH. (c) 2003 For those of you interested in continuity, this story takes place during the first half of the final season of The X- Files. It's a sequel to my story ALTERED FATES: THE X-FILE in the sense of being set after that tale and making reference back to it, but you don't need to have read that one to follow this one. Altered Fates Project Zulo

(Author's Note: This story provides a finale to all the Altered Fates tales I've posted here to date. It contains spoilers for, and resolves dangling threads from, most of those eleven stories. I wrote them out of sequence, but I always knew where each of them fitted in the overall scheme. Read in order, the larger story should all fall into place with what might have seemed stray characters and random bits of business all connecting up. Even if you read the individual stories as they...

As always, any comments or criticism is welcome. Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Altered Fates A Christmas Tale

ALTERED FATES: A CHRISTMAS TALE by BobH (c) 2012 Ed Geraghty sat down heavily on the changing room bench and sighed. He felt every minute of his fifty-six years, and then some. Any positive effect on his health of thirty five years pounding the streets delivering mail had been more than offset by the same number of years spent drinking hard liquor to excess. Not that this was an option open to him any more, given the precarious state of his liver. He was not a bad man, and had...

Altered Fates Auntie Em

I originally had no intention of making this an Altered Fates story. However, after my first two drafts turned out horrible, I decided to try a different angle with it. This is what resulted. Altered Fates: Auntie Em By Morpheus Corey winced as his foot went into the puddle of water, muttering "Damn" to himself. He was already completely soaked through from the heavy rain, which gave no sign of letting up. Shivering in his wet clothes, Corey really wished that he hadn't ...

Altered Fates Babysitting

I've had this story in mind for quite awhile, but the first time I started writing it, Eric came out with a very similar Altered Fates story called The Baby-sitter Caper first. Because of that I put this one on hold for awhile. Well here it finally is. I know that the ending leaves a lot that could be done afterwards, but I left off where I was on purpose. Perhaps I'll do a sequel, or perhaps I'll just leave the rest to the readers imagination. Altered Fates: Babysitting By...

Altered Fates 3rd Strike And Your Out

This is a spin-off story from Lord's Prayer which, I hope, wraps up this episode. Altered Fates: Chimera, Part 1 By Elliot Reid I stood at the window, peering out into the cold morning light. I waited a full five minutes, face squashed against the glass, feeling my nose get uncomfortably cool.
