MAU: The Slayer-Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust By Allen W. Previously on MAU: The Slayer James Stevens uses a Morphic Adaptation Unit to turn himself into Faith the rouge Vampire Slayer from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and ends up getting stuck in that form. He reluctantly joins with the 'Men in Black' to track down another device. Meanwhile, two high school misfits, John and Matt, find another MAU and John uses it to change himself into his high school crush Linda Stevens, aka James' little sister. Matt then uses the device to change himself into a non- super powered copy of Faith. Linda uses the device to turn herself into John, is later severally injured and left in a coma. John takes over Linda's like and finds that he likes being the most popular girl in school. Matt, now Michelle, is forced to move in with James/Faith and finds that he doesn't like living with her super-powered twin or the way that John has changed since he has taken over Linda's life. Finally, Max who had turned himself into Darla from the television show turned James' older brother Dan into a vampire. Max was later 'slain' and Dan was taken into custody where the 'Men in Black' are holding him until a MAU is found and he can be cured. Prolog "You can't fucking keep me in here!" Dan Stevens grumbled as he paced back and forth in the cell to one of the Agency's lab technician. "I'm an American citizen and have rights. I get a phone call and a lawyer. It's against the law to just hold me in here forever." This technician, like all of the others, ignored Dan's constant complaining. Dan seemed to have a complaint about everything, but the technicians all knew how dangerous Dan really was, for as ridiculous as it sounded, he was a vampire. Not a true vampire of legend, but as close a facsimile as a Morphic Adaptation Unit could make one. For a time another vampire, Tyrone, had been in the cell next to him. Dan thought of the other vampire as his true brother. Brothers beyond flesh and blood, beyond life and death, they had both died and been resurrected to a new life, and way of thinking. They were in fact blood brothers in every sense of the word, born from the blood of the vampire who called herself Darla. But Dan now understood that Darla hadn't truly been what she had appeared to be, that she had in fact once been a guy named Max, who had been transformed by some device in to a female vampire character from the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And Max had been a best friend with Dan's brother James. "God how I hate him!" Dan shrieked making the technician flinch in surprise. "If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be in this crappy cell." Dan thought of how his brother had been transformed by the same strange alien machine that had changed Max and his girlfriend Karen into vampires, but instead of becoming a vampire, James had become a vampire Slayer. The rouge slayer Faith and she had managed to catch him when he had gone to kill their sister Linda. Dan hated her almost as much as he hated James. While James was the younger brother who got everything that he didn't, Linda was the baby of the bunch and she got all the love and admiration that should have been his. When he got free he would kill both of them. He had thought about killing his parents too, but he would let them live, so they could both suffer the pain of the death of both their precious children. He hated his parents enough to kill them, but he wanted them to suffer more than he wanted their deaths. He hadn't always hated his family as he now did, but after he was reborn as a vampire and his humanity had been suppressed, he realized that every failure he had ever experienced was directly due to his family. And he would make them all one day pay for not recognizing his greatness when they had the chance. He had wanted Tyrone to be there with him, or at least be there to help him escape, but Tyrone had been taken away the week before. He knew the talk was they were trying to find a cure, but he knew these government types were only out to find a way to control their vampiric abilities. He had over heard that 'Faith' was trying to find one of the devices to cure him, but he didn't want that. He loved what he had become, so now he had to escape. Escape before they decided to take him away like they had taken Tyrone. Just then his dinner had arrived through a slot by the door. It was the same meal that he had had ever since he had arrived there, but he never tired of it. He picked up the bag of blood and was about to tear into it, but something didn't seem right about it. His face morphed into the vampiric visage, but instead of tearing into the bag and greedily drinking it down, he took a small taste of it. "It's drugged." He thought. "So tonight is the night that I am to be taken away. Well, we'll just see about that." A few hours later two lab techs and a guard entered the cell. They cautiously approached the unconscious vampire that lay on the floor. "Don't worry." The guard said stepping up to the vampire. "With the amount of sedative they put in that blood, he will be out for at least a day." The two lab techs stepped closer and started to pick up Dan's unconscious body. In a flash Dan sprang to his feet and had crashed the heads of the two lab techs together. Before the guard could react, Dan was on him. With in a few seconds he lay unconscious on the floor. "You're right." Dan said to the unconscious guard as he grabbed his weapon and keys. "There was enough sedative in that blood to keep me unconscious for some time. To bad I didn't drink it." He said dropping the bag of blood next to the guard and then he made his way towards the exit. End prolog SATURDAY NIGHT The large banquet room was crowded with high school students dressed in there finest. Young men in rented tuxedos and young women in beautiful gowns stood waiting for the final announcement of the night to be made. Five young women each stood breathlessly waiting in hopes of hearing their name being called. "Oh my God Linda, you...are...so...going to be prom queen." Tina said excitedly as she gave her best friend a hug. John hugged Tina back and then quickly turned and gave a brief hug to an attractive brunette. The brunette gave John a disdainful look. She had been his best friend since fourth grade, back when they had both been boys, before the Morphic Adaptation Unit had changed them in to the attractive young women that they were now. "And this years prom queen is..." Tina tightly squeezed John's left hand and Michelle, a.k.a. Matt, loosely held John's right hand as the announcer spoke. "Linda Stevens!" John stood numb as all the kids in high school who had either taunted or ignored him for most of his young adolescent life, now cheered for him. He wanted to walk forward but his legs suddenly felt weak. "Come on Linda, you've got to go up and give your acceptance speech." Tina said nudging John forward. "John, snap out of it." Michelle whispered coldly into John's right ear. "This is what you wanted, so go up and give your speech. You're now the most popular girl in school so go enjoy it." John turned and looked Michelle coldly and said in a whisper, "For the last time, I'm Linda now and don't ever forget it." Dressed in a long, flowing white gown, his hair gorgeously styled and his make-up flawlessly applied, John stepped up onto the stage and up to the microphone. Ms. Jones the English teacher put a beautiful tiara on John's head and Mr. Longfellow the math teacher handed him a dozen long stemmed roses. John's classmates, minus the four jealous runner- ups, their close friends and Michelle, cheered for John and began chanting...Linda...Linda...Linda. John couldn't contain his smile and felt a tear of joy running down his face as he stepped up to the microphone to speak. The crowd watched as Linda Stevens, one of the most beautiful, intelligent and athletic girls of the school, began to give her acceptance speech. In the back of the banquet room, a lone, unnoticed figure stood in the shadows...watching. "All in good time little sister." Dan whispered as he listened to his sister's speech. "And you to little brother." He said looking over at Michelle dressed in a flowing emerald gown. "You really have gone all gay, haven't you? If it wasn't for your dam slayer powers I would kill you right now...but all in good time James." SUNDAY MORNING In the intensive care ward of the hospital Linda Stevens's eyes fluttered opened. Groggily her eyes surveyed the strange room where she found herself. "Hospital?" She thought and tried move, but found that she couldn't. "What's happening? Why can't I move?" A sudden wave of panic began to spread over her. "John?" A vaguely familiar woman said as she stepped into Linda's line of sight. "Oh my god my baby, you're awake!" The woman said tearfully. "Doctor! Nurse! My son is awake!" "What the hell is she talking about?" Linda thought. "She must be crazy. She's not my mother and I'm not...John." The memories suddenly all came flooding back into Linda's mind. Her finding that John had used the strange alien machine to make a copy of her body, her then trying to fool Matt into believing that she was John and then using the machine to turn herself into John. The machine being taken away from her by her then boyfriend Eric and her then being stuck as John when the machine quit working. Her brother James who had previously been trapped in the body of Faith and his guilt over what had happened to her. Then the football players trapping her behind the dugout and James showing up to save her. And then...nothing. What had happened? How did she get here? A doctor, followed by a nurse, came rushing into the room. Linda tried to say something but found that she couldn't talk. Linda listened dazedly as the doctor spoke to the boy he thought was John. He told her that she had been in a bad accident and that there had been some damage to her spine, but they had high hopes of her making some recovery. That damage was sever, but with lots of physical therapy he would hopefully gain some mobility, but at this point it was to early to tell, but that he should be a brave young man when facing the changes to come. "Nice bedside manner." Linda thought as her eyes welled up with tears. It was bad enough to be trapped in an overweight male body, but to be partially paralyzed too. The doctor was putting a syringe into Linda's I V and she began to feel drowsy. "James." Linda managed to whisper as she fell asleep. "Need James." "Who's James?" The doctor asked John's Mother. "I don't know." She said. MONDAY MORNING-BEFORE SUNRISE "I can't take this anymore." Matt thought as he finished packing a bag. "I hate it here. I hate this place, I hate having to live with that bitch who thinks she can lock me up in my room whenever she feels like it, I hate that my best friend isn't my best friend anymore and I hate this stupid town." Matt had written two letters, one addressed to Faith and the other addressed to John. John's name was spelled out in bold letters on the envelope. Faith's letter detailed how Matt hated living here as her twin and wished he would have went off to the government facility when he had had the chance. How he hated walking on eggshells since Linda had been hurt and how Faith's drinking was not only pathetic, but with her enhanced strength and temper, it was also scary. Matt was going to disappear and asked that they not try to find him. In John's letter, Matt said how he truly hated what John had become. How it was bad enough when he had stopped visiting Linda in 'his' comatose body so that he could instead go to cheerleading practice, and then how he then started hanging out with Tina, Linda's best friend, and then started excluding Matt more and more, to the point where Matt finally was ready to quit the squad. Then John practically twisted Matt's arm to go to prom, but after John was announced as prom queen, he ignored him for the rest of the night and then disappeared with their dates, leaving Matt to find his own ride home. He told Matt how he wasn't really Linda, how he never would be Linda and what a waste of a human being he was for wanting to be something he really wasn't and would never be, the amazing person that the real Linda was. "Well, here goes." Matt said aloud as he picked up the travel bag and put the strap over his shoulder. "I hope Faith won't mind that I took some of the money that she had stashed. Well, too bad I guess. Now I'm off to Los Angels. Maybe I can get a job as an Eliza Dushku impersonator, if there is such a thing? Or her stunt double! I'll have to check that out." Matt closed the door behind him and walked off into the night, unaware that he was being watched from the shadows. MONDAY MORNING-AFTER SUNRISE The alarm went off and John reached over and turned it off. He stretched and yawned as he climbed out of bed. He looked over at the mirror and saw his lovely reflection smiling back at him. "And how are you doing today Ms. Stevens, you sexy prom queen, head cheerleader you? God I love being you." John said as he approached the mirror and kissed his reflection. "The only sad thing about being me is that I can't 'do' me." Within an hour John had showered, gotten dressed, applied his makeup, had a quick breakfast and was driving to school in the new Volkswagen beetle that Linda's parents had bought their daughter as an up coming graduation present. The shinny, blue metallic paint wasn't really John's favorite, he kind of thought pink was now his style, but the color had been picked out by the ex Linda and John would just have to live with it. At least until he could get it repainted. Linda's parents had noticed slight changes in their daughter's behavior over the last month or so, but they had attributed it to her two brothers and her boyfriend's sudden disappearance. Never in their wildest dreams had they suspected that someone else was now living their daughter's life. John parked in the student parking lot and walked towards class. He saw a trash can and tossed in a torn up letter that he had found under his windshield wiper blade this morning. A letter that had been addressed to a name he was now trying to forget. "Matt was my best friend, but that seems like it was a lifetime ago. He's just become a bad reminder of things best forgotten. I'm glad he's gone. He couldn't handle being one of the popular and cool kids anyway." John was lost in thought when he saw a couple guys pushing around Steve Adams. Steve, Matt and John had all been the best of friends since kindergarten and had done everything together their whole lives. If Steve hadn't had to go out of town the night that John found the Morphic Adaptation Unit, he too would probably now be changed into a new form, most likely that of Jessica Alba, who Steve thought was the hottest woman in Hollywood. A small crowd stood around and watched as Steve was being shoved around, but stopped when Linda Stevens stepped between them and Steve and told them to stop. John's eyes had a moment of pity for his long time friend, but they quickly grew cold as he noticed that several of the 'in' crowd had taken notice of him helping an unpopular, social outcast. "Thank you." Steve said shaken, but relieve that an angel had rescued him. "Don't thank me you little twerp." John snapped at a surprised Steve. "I just don't want these guys to get in trouble for pushing around a retard who wet his bed until he was fourteen." Steve looked terror stricken as the kids all started laughing at his secret, a secret that he thought only two other people knew about. Steve broke into a run to get away from the laughing, but John called after him. "And what do you think Joanna Wilson will say when she finds out that you have a whole scrapbook dedicated to her?" John watched as his other previous best friend ran away and disappeared around a corner. He felt a small tinge of guilt, but the laughs of all of his new 'friends' made him laugh along with them. After a few minutes, John looked at his watch and started off towards class. John rounded a corner and saw his new best friend Tina. "Tina!" John shriek in genuine girlish excitement. "Oh my Gawd Linda! You are not going to believe it!" "What?" John asked hoping for some new piece of gossip or that she had heard about his just having trashed Steve. "I just heard through the grapevine that John Miller woke up from his three week long coma yesterday." John was speechless. "She's awake." He thought. "Maybe if he's ok, they will drop the charges against Josh? And maybe they can bring back the rest of the guys that got expelled too? I really hope they do." "Huh?" John said lost in thought, but before Tina could answer, the bell rang. "I'll see you at lunch Linda." Tina said sauntering off to class. John stood frozen for a moment as he thought that Linda waking up from her coma might be the worst news he had ever heard. "Please Mom, dial the number and set the phone by my ear." Linda said as she lay in bed. John's mother dialed the number like her son had asked and left the room. "You've reached...uh...me." The female voice on the answering machine said. "Oh God James, are you there?" Linda said almost weeping. "I've been told I was in a coma for over three weeks, but I am awake now. Are you there? Hello? It's Linda. Please come see me as soon as you can. Well, uh bye." Linda suddenly realized that she couldn't hang up the phone. "Mom!" Linda called out. Mom can you come back in now please!" John's mom came back into the room. "You can hang up the phone now." Linda said feeling utterly helpless. Linda knew that she had to make another phone call, but waited until she knew that school was out and that cheerleader practice would sure to be over before she made that call. "Hello Linda." Linda said into the phone after she had heard her old bodies voice on the other end of the line. There was a long pause before she heard the receiver on the other end hang up. John felt sick as he hung up the phone. When Linda had first been injured and was in the coma John had felt like it was in some way his fault, but as time went on he came to realize that with her 'gone', that this was truly his life now. Since she was out of the way he had truly embraced being Linda in a way that the old Linda never had. He was using and abusing his newfound popularity just like Tina had always wanted Linda to do and he was enjoying high school, as he had never dreamed he could. He even went to the prom with a Ted Zimmer and let him feel him up afterwards as they made out. John knew that Linda had never had sex and even though he wasn't ready just yet, he knew that with the way that Ted was making him feel, that he soon would be ready to go all the way. But now with Linda being conscious again, John's confidence in his new life suddenly seemed to be faltering. "What if she finds some way of taking my new life away from me?" John thought horrified. "I'm never going to go back to being John ever again. I would sooner be dead then be who I was. Why couldn't she have stayed in that coma? I wish she was dead!" John sat stunned at what he had just thought. "Do I really want her dead?" He felt goose bumps rising on his arms and a chill run down his spin as he realized the answer was...yes...yes he did. John sat numbly for several hours just thinking. He had everything he had ever dreamed of. He was popular, accepted, had tons of friends and was liked by everyone in school. He had been accepted to a great college that his parents could easily afford and he was guaranteed a promising future. He loved his new life and would do whatever he had to do to keep it. On the drive over to the hospital John tried not to think. He tried not to think of all the ways a paralyzed person could accidentally die in the hospital. What if an air bubble found its way into their IV. John wondered if that really worked or was that just in the movies? What if a cute friend from high school who was visiting and she just happened to be helping her injured friend 'John' a drink? And what if she 'accidentally' poured too much water down his throat and him being unable to move, or stop her, would drowned from a glass of water. John had heard that was possible. On and on as he drove he tried not to think of other things that could unintentionally go wrong with Linda's care. John parked his new car in the visitor parking and made his way up to Linda's room. John peaked in and saw that there were no visitors and so he entered. "Hi John." John said as he approached Linda. Linda looked up in surprise. "Hi John." She said in a raspy voice. "I didn't think..." She started to say but had to cough. "What are you talking about silly?" John said in what he was coming to think of as his cutesy, bimbo voice. He found that he could usually make guys do whatever he wanted when he used it. "You're John and I'm Linda." "What?" Linda said in disbelief. "And why are you talking in that ridiculously sounding baby voice?" John gave up on the voice, but carried on. "You called me John, but obviously you're John. And I'm Linda Stevens." "You can't be serious with that...nonsense." Linda said weakly. "Nonsense? The only nonsense would be if you were to claim to be me. I'm Linda Stevens and you are John Miller...a great big fat NO ONE. So I just came here to tell you to leave me alone and never bother me again." John said as he picked up a spare pillow. "If I ever hear from you again..." John said as he slowly approached the helpless Linda. "What are you doing?" Linda said fearfully looking up at John who slowly moved towards her. Try as she might, she was unable to will her arms up to stop John's approach. Helplessly, she looked on as John drew closer. John slowly started to lower the pillow towards Linda's terror stricken face, but then pulled it away and coldly looked down at his former body. "If you ever try to contact me or make any claim that you used to be me or in any way try to ruin my perfect life...it will be the last thing you ever do." John said icily. Then he turned and dropped the pillow it to where it had been. "Goodbye John." John said as he walked towards the door. Just then an Orderly stepped in blocking John's exit. John stepped back in surprise. "Just be cool." John thought. "He didn't see anything. He's just here to change the sheets or something, just let him pass and I've made a clean get away." In a flash one of the Orderly's hands was on John's throat and the other was covering his mouth. "What? No warm welcome for you long lost brother?" Dan said glaring coldly at John. In a frenzied terror John struggled to shake his head back and forth as he realized that this was Linda's brother Dan who had been turned into a vampire. "Oh God!" John thought in a panic. "He thinks I his sister. He's going to kill me!" "I've come to finish what I started back at the house. We're all going to be one big family again." Dan said as his face morphed into a vampiric visage. John frantically mumbled into Dan's hand that was tightly clasped over his mouth. "Any last words?" Dan asked teasingly. John nearly hysterically was shaking his head up and down. "Alright." Dan said overly amused. "But if you try to scream for help, I will rip your head off so fast, that you will get to watch your body collapse to the floor before your brain dies." John fearfully nodded his head. Tentatively, Dan lowered his hand from John's mouth, but he kept a sly smile on his face as he did so. "I'm not your sister. My name's John." John nearly whispered. "I got changed by a machine to look like her and she got turned into me. She's right there." John said pointing at Linda. "Please don't kill me." He whimpered. Dan's smile never faltered as he slowly turned and coldly looked at the paralyzed young man that lay in the bed helpless before him. "Is that true?" Dan said coldly as he pulled John helplessly closer to Linda's bed. "Is this John?" "That's..." Linda coughed. "That's Linda Stevens." John's pretty blue eyes grew wide with terror and he was about to scream when Dan's had was again suddenly over his mouth. "And who are you?" Dan asked with the cold smile slightly brightening. "A...no one." Linda said with a tear running down her face. "I know." Dan said and then turned to look at John whose terrified muffled shrieks could barely be heard through Dan's hand. Effortlessly Dan turned John's head exposing his supple neck. Dan struggled with all that he had to free himself, but he felt a cool breath on his neck and then the caress of a tongue licking him. John screamed again into the hand that covered his mouth, but then felt the sudden piercing of neck and an erotic euphoria sweeping over his body as he helplessly surrender himself to Dan's embrace. With in a few moments, Dan dropped the semi-lifeless body to the floor and turned to Linda with a triumphant smile on his face. "God that was fun! Like Christmas, my Birthday and New Year's Eve all rolled up into one!" Dan said and bit into his own wrist. "Oh course I knew it was you the whole time Linda. If you had told the truth I would have let this 'wantabe you' go free...well maybe..." Dan said grabbing John by his long blond hair and pulling his head up to his bloodied wrist. The blood started flowing down John's throat. "Ah hell, whom I kidding, I wanted to make her a vampire and would have made her one regardless of what you said, but don't take any comfort from that little sister, you still were willing to sign her death warrant without a second thought. Now that is cold-blooded. There's hope for you yet. Well, I guess there was. Too bad my new sister here will be hungry when she wakes up and you will make the perfect first meal." In a flash John's nearly lifeless hands grasped onto Dan's wrist and greedily pulled it tightly to his mouth where he ravenously begins to lap at the blood. "It won't be long now little sister till we're a family again." Dan said looking down at the attractive blond who drank from his wrist. "You know we could turn you into one of us too." Dan said looking over at Linda. "I'm sure the blood would mend whatever injuries you have, you could be whole again, and if it didn't work, we could keep you as our paraplegic pet. How does that sound?" "Dan, if you are going to kill me, just do it and be done with it, but don't bore me to death." Linda said with a false bravado that would have been believed by anyone who hadn't known her their whole life. "You know." Dan said with a cold gravediggers grin as he pulled his wrist away from John's mouth. "I think we could just leave you here like...this. Obviously with your tough talk, that's what you want me to do, but you don't realize that it would be a kindness to kill you. You should be put out of your misery like a dog, but then again, your suffering would be over. And I want you to suffer Linda. After my new sister and I leave here we'll kill off John's parents so that you won't even have them to care for you. You'll just be a ward of the state...orphaned...paralyzed...unwanted...unloved...and alone. You'll be trapped forever in a broken useless body that isn't even your own. With no friends or family, no one to care if you live or die. You'll be wishing I had killed you by the end of the week. "No I won't." Linda said angrily. "You've got nothing left baby sister." Dan said stepping up to his sister's bedside with the intention of killing her as soon as she broke. "Nothing!" Linda's eyes welled up with tears, but instead of the fear Dan hoped for he was infuriated to see what looked like hope in her eyes. "You're wrong Dan!" Linda said resolutely. "I have..." A splintering crash from behind made Dan whirl around in surprise as he saw the hospital door come bursting off of its hinges. Framed in the doorway was... "Faith!" Dan growled. "James!" Linda beamed. "Lunch!" John said, his face shifting to a vampiric visage as he sprang to his feet and charged wildly at Faith. "Wait!" Dan screamed to his recently created sister, but the warning came to late as Faith side stepped John's frantic charge and drove a stake into his recently deceased heart. A loud whooshing sound was heard as John's body burst into a cloud of dust that slowly drifted towards the ground. "You Bitch!" Dan screamed and in a flash his hands were around Linda's neck. "You killed my sister now watch yours die." "Dan don't!" Faith cried. Linda watched helplessly in terror as her brother's hands tightened like a vice around her neck and she knew she was about to die. Time slowed down and the strangest of thoughts ran through her mind as Dan's snarling face turned to look down at her. A sudden memory flashed in her mind. She remembered a summer when they were all children and her parents had rented a cabin at Lake Arrowhead and their Dad was out watching them to swim. She was only five, James was nine and Dan was thirteen. James had gotten a cramp in his leg and their Dad was taking him into shore and had told Linda to follow him, but Linda decided this was the perfect opportunity to swim out further in the lake to prove that she was just as good a swimmer as her brothers. Within seconds Linda found herself in trouble and was quickly sinking under the water. Out of nowhere a strong arm grabbed onto her arm and pulled her head up above the water. "Tank que, Dan." She said looking up into the smiling face of her brother. "You my hero." Linda looked up into the eyes of her brother, as she had some thirteen years before, but she could now see no hint of the love that had once been there. Abruptly, her eyes were drawn to a shaft that was now protruding from his chest. A shaft she instantly recognized as a crossbow bolt. The vice like grip around her throat loosened and she watched as her brother's body instantly crumbled into a cloud of dust. "Dan?" She whispered mystified as a thin layer of dust rained down on her. She scanned the room for any sign of her brother Dan, but he was gone. She saw Faith still standing in the doorway, her arm extended with a mini-crossbow in her hand. Linda's eyes locked on Faith who stood frozen in the doorway, Faith's eyes still locked and focused on a point in space that was now empty, but that had moments before been where her brother's heart had been. Linda watched as Faith let the mini-crossbow fall from her hand. Faith looked as pale as a sheet as she staggered forward a few feet, but then collapsed to her knees and began to retch. Linda couldn't see Faith now that she was out of her line of sight, but could hear her. Once she had stopped vomiting, she began to sob. "James." Linda said in whisper. "James?" She said a little louder. "James you didn't have any choice. He was going to kill me." "I know that." James sobbed. "But you don't understand. What I just did now...with what just happened with John. I just killed you and Dan, and I didn't feel a thing while it was happening. I just did it." "You didn't have any choice." Linda said realizing what Faith meant. "Oh god, I'm a monster." Faith said rising to her feet, keeping her face averted away from Linda as she headed for the door. "I'm sorry but I don't want you to look at me right now." "James, please don't go." Linda said sobbing. Faith stopped in the doorway, but didn't turn around to look at her sister. "I'm sorry...I just can't. I'm..." "James." Linda said as she watched her other brother disappear from sight. Within a few moments a security guard, a couple of orderlies and several nurse were in the room trying to determine what had happened. Linda sat and ignored the questions of the nurse and tried not to notice as the orderly mopped up the remains of John and her brother. Her heart broke as she realized that her parents would soon discover that the last of there three children had mysteriously disappeared. But she knew that as hard as it would be for her parents, it would be much harder for James. To save her, James had not only had to kill his brother, but with John's death, James had effectively 'killed' Linda's life as well. And now he had run off to face all of his grief alone. She knew he needed her right now and she wanted to be there for him, to help him. "I wish I was well so that I could follow you James." Linda thought as she lay in the bed.
