Her soon to be wife Kelly had so far gone on to produce a number of designs for various stores. She was still waiting for her first big deal, but there was time yet. Laura and Alex were still working. Laura had opted for the extension to her contract on her modelling career, but still arranged for Danielle (now 2 years old) to be looked after. Joanne was still working at the award winning salon, but was now a senior assistant. Sylvia had been quick to promote her following her championship successes. She also happened to be married too. She had married late the previous year, to Alan. It meant another bridesmaid job for Kelly and Paula, with Laura as Matron of Honour. They had already done that duty for Kevin and Linda, who had also married last year. It was annoying in part, for Linda's grandmother was very old fashioned in her ways, and hated gays. Paula went to the bathroom to do her usual morning business before heading downstairs for breakfast. "Good, you're up," said Laura. "Alicia said she would be here around now." "Shortly," said Laura, looking at her watch. "Got to see if Dani is alright." Paula had already been to the store earlier in the week to have the fitting done. Kelly had also got her dress from there too, but to avoid the couple seeing one another, Kelly's fitting had been on another day. "Now, after you've finished that, I want you to take a shower," said Laura, who was now getting Danielle into some clothes. The doorbell rang. Laura answered it to find Alicia standing there. Moments later, Paula was with them, wearing a bathrobe and her hair in a turban. Laura had brought Danielle into the room, sitting in a carrier chair. "Ok Alicia, go get showered," said Laura. Making sure that the rest of her was dry, she put on her bathrobe and went to Joanne's room to get her hair done. "Ok, you know what we planned," said Joanne, as Paula sat in front of her dressing table. "Yes, I want it kept loose. No updos," said Paula. "But you told me about getting the hair at the front braided." "Yes. Then I'll just bring it round the back and tie it back. Not too hard, and not complicated either, to go with the dress." "Go ahead sis," said Paula. Joanne started combing the hair out more and dried it with her hair dryer. She then set about the styling. Laura came in a while later to check her progress. By then, Paula's hair was finished. Joanne had used a clip with a silk white rose to tie her hair back. "I'm ready mom. What do you think?" "Wonderful, absolutely wonderful," said Laura, trying to keep a dry eye. "Alicia has almost finished her shower, Jo. You can do her shortly." "Linda has just arrived," called Alex up the stairs. "Hi guys. How're you doing?" called Linda. "Fine," said Paula. "Come up here and take a shower." "No need," said Linda as she climbed the stairs. "Took one at Kelly's. Like the hair." "Your dress is in here Linda," said Laura. "Just going to get the bride ready now." Linda was acting as a chief bridesmaid, now that she herself was married. Her role was minimised due to Laura and Miriam acting as Matrons of Honour. * * * Paula was sat by Laura's dressing table, awaiting the make-up. Linda went over and found her dress, and started undressing. Laura started work on Paula's make-up and nails, before turning to the jewellery. "We thought long about make-up and we all agreed that some serious kit was needed," she said. "Seeing that we are liable to get emotional on days like this, waterproof mascara. And as an additional measure: smear proof lipstick." Paula smiled. The one part of the ceremony where her lipstick would be smudged came to mind. After doing her face, Laura moved onto Paula's fingernails. They were usually short, to help with her work as a mechanic. But in the build up to the wedding, she had let them grow. Soon, they matched her raspberry coloured lips. "Ok, here is the old item," said Laura. "These earrings belonged to my mom. She wore them on her wedding day, as did I and Joanne." Paula remembered Joanne wearing them on her day, and was happy to become the latest woman in the family to wear them at her wedding. They were pearl and diamond drop earrings. "As for something borrowed, here," said Laura. She took a box and showed Paula a necklace of pearls with a diamond brooch. "It's beautiful," said Paula. "It's mine. I cannot bear to part with it, but it's yours for today," said Laura. Paula waited to put the earrings and necklace on, for the time had come to put the new item on: the dress. But there were other things to put on first. Once again, Paula felt the shiver down her spine, as the first garments were introduced. A strapless bra was needed, as the dress itself was strapless. Then came the stockings, complete with suspenders. After that came the other wedding requirement: a pale blue garter. "Ok, here we go," said Laura. "I know it's not lady like, but just put this over your head." Paula took the bag and put it over her head as the dress was lowered over her. Once her head was clear, she removed it and went over to the mirror in the corner. The tears started flowing. "Told you we get emotional," said Laura,who was just adjusting the dress in places. She then placed a tissue in Paula's hand. "I'm finally the girl I met in my dreams," she sobbed. "It's actually happened." "You look wonderful," said Linda, who was just adjusting her dress. "Just let it all out." As soon as Paula had recovered, she put her shoes on (white of course). Laura helped Linda with her dress and then did her make-up. Paula then put on the earrings and necklace. "Is Alicia done yet?" called Laura. "Nearly," said Joanne. "Linda is ready to have her hair done," replied Laura. "Ok," said Joanne. "I might as well get ready myself," said Laura. She was soon putting on a skirt, blouse and jacket. Alicia was soon back in the room, letting Linda race next door to get her hair done. Thankfully, Linda and Alicia were soon ready, as was Paula. Joanne had decided to keep her own hair simple, and put it up. Alex was soon entering the room to see if all were ready. He was ready. "Oh Paula. You look wonderful," he said, going over to hug her. "Thank you dad," she said. "Ready to go?" he added. She merely nodded. "Joanne, can you phone Miriam and tell her we're on our way," said Laura as she went over and collected Danielle. "On to it," said Joanne. "Alan is going to meet me there." "Ok, but as long as the brides and bridesmaids are on time!" said Laura. Paula stood for a moment, holding a bouquet, while Alicia and Linda stood and looked at her. They were just as nervous and excited as Paula, even if Linda had already been there. "You look beautiful Paula," smiled Linda. "Now it's time to enjoy your big day." Soon, Paula (now wearing a veil), Alicia and Linda were leaving the house and heading to the car (Alex had had it washed the day before). Moments later, they were on their way to the register office. * * * Kelly was also on her way, along with her parents. As Linda and Alicia had predicted, she felt nervous too. "It's natural to be nervous," said Miriam, who had chosen to sit in the back of the car with her. "This is a big day in your life, the rest of your life." Kelly looked at her through her veil and smiled. "Since I started dating Paula, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her," she replied. "Well, that time starts today," smiled Miriam. She put one hand on her handbag, for it contained two small items that were essential to the ceremony." They soon arrived at the register office where some had already arrived. It was just Paula and the bridesmaids to arrive. Amongst the crowd awaiting the soon to be wed couple, were the parents of both Alicia and Linda, Kevin and Mike, Kevin's parents, Alan, Sarah and Mick plus friends from college. But upon the arrival of the first bride, the registrar called for them to come in and be seated. As they pulled up, Mark noticed Alex's car not far behind. They waited to one side as they noticed 3 cars pull up. One was Alex's, with Paula, Linda, Alicia and Laura. The other cars belonged to Joanne and Carol. "I had to go home and get something," said Carol as she got out of her car. "You managed with Kelly's hair?" asked Joanne who was just removing Danielle from the passenger seat. "Sure. She was wonderful," said Carol. "How about you?" "No problems either, despite the time," replied Joanne. "Now left holding the baby." "She yours?" asked Carol. "No, she's my sister," said Joanne. "She's 2." They headed into the register office first, as Paula, now on Alex's arm, followed. Laura, Miriam, Linda and Alicia were behind them. "All here then?" asked the registrar. "Very much," said Alex. "Shall we begin?" The registrar smiled and went off to the room where the ceremony would take place. Miriam and Laura followed him. It took a few minutes for those in the room to settle down. Only then could the music start and the brides make their entrance. Paula and Kelly did catch glances of each other from the start, but it was only when they arrived at the dais that they got to see each other properly. They lifted their veils and smiled at each other, sensing the nerves and excitement in each other. The service began. Paula now noticed that Kelly had her hair done in a low bun. She looked wonderful, never mind displaying the smile that Paula loved so much. Miriam gave the rings to the registrar, who then moved onto the exchanging of vows. Alex had brought along a camcorder to capture the whole event. Moments later, the registrar proclaimed them civil partners, or as Paula and Kelly would have preferred: wife and wife. They didn't need asking to share their first kiss as newly-weds. They then went over to a corner of the room to sign the register, with Laura and Miriam acting as witnesses. They then left the room, shaking hands and exchanging hugs with their friends, before heading outside for a few photos. After being totally grateful for the sunshine that filled the sky, they all made their way to a familiar pub for the reception party. Paula and Kelly had made an agreement to take each other's names as a result of their marriage. They would now be Mrs and Mrs Walker-Smith. At the reception, they cut the cake (with two bride figures on top) while their fathers both made speeches. Mark made a moving speech in which he once again apologised for his homophobic views. With no grooms, it was down to both brides to make speeches. As had been the case with talking in public, Paula always referred to her past as a little girl. There was no Paul, always Paula. But apart from the well rehearsed rewritten past, everything else was very much as it really had happened. After the reception dinner, the tables were pushed to one side so that everyone could dance the night away. As the night drew on, everyone slowly made their way home. Laura had to take Danielle home, after she started getting tired. The newly weds had their own plans. Their parents had arranged for them to spend a night at a local hotel, before they set off on a short honeymoon in Wales. "Ok you two. Enjoy the first night of the rest of your lives," said Alex as he dropped them off at the hotel. They had already been home for a change of clothes. "Will do dad," said Kelly, now relishing in her ability to address Alex as such. "We will," smiled Paula. They both kissed him on the cheek before heading inside. Upon entering their room, they embraced and kissed. Tonight was going to be an enjoyable one, and a very passionate one. * * * Paula and Kelly didn't immediately have a place of their own. They had to settle for a small rented property just a short distance from where their parents lived. Paula had also got herself a small car. Like Joanne's, it was a used one, but in good order. It at least enabled her to get to work. Kelly was also keen to get a car too, having recently passed her own driving test. At the team HQ, Paula was certainly asserting herself as a driver for the team. So far, the team had decided to keep her driving lessons a secret, though she was making it clear that entering her as a driver would be a good idea. Between lessons on the test track, she continued to work in the garages. It was no surprise that Sarah proved to be the one she preferred to work with. She was also noticing that Sarah was doing plenty of map reading too. "I just like reading maps, that's all," she replied. "I often help with the map work for the drivers, though I've never been the co-driver at any time." Paula had been learning to take directions from a co-driver whilst doing her training on the test track. Though she now knew the course by heart, it was necessary for her to develop a working relationship with the person in the passenger seat. While Paula's path to becoming a team driver was getting clearer by the week, Kelly's ambitions were also on the up. She had been hired by a store to be among a group of designers. While her ideas would be put forward, they would be put in a pile with others, meaning that some of her ideas might end up being brushed aside. While she appreciated being part of a team, she really wanted to see all her designs being picked. As well as working on designs asked for by the store, she worked busily on other designs. She even spent a lot of time working at home too. But while their work ambitions kept them busy, they still had dreams of starting a family. The question was who would become pregnant first, and whether they could get a sperm donor. They went to a clinic to discuss their situation. The only real obstacle was their work, as which of them could take a baby to work with them? They were left to think it through when Kelly had an idea. "I could work at home," she said. "A lot of people do it now. All I need is a computer with a camera attached. I can attend meetings by appearing on a video screen." "Don't they reserve such privileges for the highest staff?" asked Paula. "I am getting there," said Kelly. "My designs are getting more attention now." "Well, at HQ, they are considering unleashing me on the BRC next season. They just need a co-driver and my dream of silverware is on," said Paula. "But that means you'll be away from here for a while?" said Kelly. "It would. If you can get to work at home and use video conferencing to 'attend' meetings, I will gladly ask you to come along," said Paula. "I'll ask the boss tomorrow," said Kelly. "I'm already becoming a favourite of his." She was heading to the kitchen when Paula stopped her. "My turn to do dinner today," she called. As for the rest of the family, Laura and Alex were coping to look after Danielle on their own. Laura was continuing her job as a fashion model and she was getting recognised locally. The job had affected her dress sense and she looked the part wherever she went. Along with Paula and Kelly, she got free styling at Sylvia's hair salon, all because of Joanne still working there. Joanne and her husband Alan were also busy in their work. Alan had managed to become a Formula 1000 driver and was doing well. He still hoped to race in Formula 1 one day. Linda and Kevin were also busy with work, though as with Paula and Kelly, they also wanted to hear the patter of tiny feet. It was no small wonder that a few months after Kelly and Paula were married that Linda announced that she was expecting their first child. As for Mike and Alicia, they were yet to marry. Mike was not pleased at how his parents had snubbed Paula and Kelly's wedding. His views on gays had changed, whereas theirs had not. He was actually considering becoming an Anglican as a result, which certainly got their attention. Alicia was still busy at vet college and now had an eye on a job at the local zoo. Kelly had proceeded to tell her boss about how she and Paula were keen to start a family, despite their work schedule. He wasn't sure at first, but as Kelly was becoming one of the lead members of the team, he relented. As for now, Kelly would be working in her office. Paula was already aware that her debut rally was only weeks away. But she had yet to meet her co-driver. She was however, in work to see the car she would be driving. The car was waiting on the test track with a sheet covering it. Nick, the lead PR manager was standing by it, along with Rick and Martin, the chief test drivers. There were a few photographers and reporters on the scene too. "So, here's the car, but where's my co-driver?" asked Paula. She was already wearing the drivers overalls that she would be wearing for the coming season. Even her helmet had her name on it. "We're just waiting for the person to arrive," said Nick. "Making it a big event, by the looks of things?" added Paula. "Well, seeing that you're the first female to enter the BRC, we thought we'd make it known," said Nick. "So, no pressure on me to do well?" replied Paula. She then found microphones being shoved in to her face, as the reporters were eager to get some words from her. "Ok, you'll get your chance," said Nick. "But we're waiting for the co- driver to arrive. Ah, here she comes." "She?" asked Paula. "I don't believe it." The co-driver was none other than Sarah. "You? You're my co-driver?" asked Paula. "Yes, what do you think?" asked Sarah. "The management thought it be better if your co-driver was female too." "You've finally got out of that garage after all," smiled Paula. "I knew I would one day," replied Sarah. "Oh, here's the boss. The unveiling of the car is near." The boss Eddie Granger, was soon among the crowd. He looked and smiled at Paula and Sarah before turning to the reporters. "Well, I would like to introduce you to our new driving team for the coming BRC season," he said. "Paula Walker-Smith and Sarah Jones." "This is the first ever all woman team, isn't it?" asked one reporter. "I believe I'm the first ever female rally driver," said Paula. "Though I've heard that women are becoming involved in F1 as well." The time had soon come for the car to be unveiled. It was a small hatchback, 4WD and the rear side windows bore the names of the two women. After posing for a few photos with the car, they returned inside to hold a press conference. Paula decided to refrain from her personal life, as did Sarah. It was only when a nosey reporter asked them what their boyfriends thought about them being a rally team, that Paula decided to point out her marriage to Kelly. "If you wish to know, I am a lesbian and I'm in a civil partnership. I will not discuss this subject any further," said Paula. "And I am not her partner, in case you're wondering. I have a steady boyfriend," said Sarah. ?Now, can we get back to the main topic which is our chances in the BRC.? The conference continued for another half hour, when all questions had been answered. ?You didn't have to tell them you're gay," said Sarah as they headed to the canteen for food. ?If I didn't, they'd be starting rumours and trying to match me up with someone of the top eligible bachelor list," said Paula. ?They'd be trying it for you too.? ?What has our private lives got to do with anyone?? asked Sarah. ?We'll be role models. It was also giving them a chance to gel as a partnership. Nick had also given them a copy of a motoring magazine which featured an article on them. ?At least they've kept to the motoring, and left the private stuff to a minimum," said Sarah. ?You haven't seen this then?? said Paula. She held up a copy of a national tabloid. ?First female rally car driver is a lezzy," she said with utter disgust, reading the headline inside the back pages. ?My natural talent for hairpin corners is overlooked by my liking for women!? ?Tell Nick. He'll do something about it," said Sarah, who was equally disgusted by the headline. Nick was soon on to the newspaper asking for an apology. Kelly was soon aware of the news and was also scathing of it. But she was also wary of the problems that it could bring. ?Don't feed them more information," she told Paula. ?They're just looking to bring you down and will twist anything you tell them. The only thing was that Kelly had yet to get her video conferencing equipment, thus had to stay at home while Paula spent a few days away on the rally. She and Sarah were certainly getting some looks from the other drivers. ?Just show them what we've got," said Sarah. ?Here's the map of our first course.? They both studied the map and decided on how to tackle it. Paula had so far conquered the test track back at HQ, but this was different. The event course was many miles long and divided into 3 stages. ?We do get a practice run, just to give a clue as what we're dealing with," said Sarah. ?I know. I have watched this on the telly," smiled Paula. The practice run, or shakedown, was a good thing. They had misjudged a number of corners, due to the track being 'narrowed' by trees either side. Sarah was scribbling notes onto the map as they went. ?That went well, mainly," said Paula as they crossed the finishing line. ?Hopefully, we'll get those corners right next time.? Despite their faults, the judges were quite impressed with the girl team. ?For a first time, that was not bad," said the one. ?Not wishing to ruin your chances, but if you can better that time, you could be among the contenders.? ?That's our aim," said Paula. ?We're not in it to be a side show.? The odds of seeing the car take a few knocks along the way were good. The aim was to get as few as possible, as the time that the mechanics had to work on it between stages was limited. Paula was proving that she did have a remarkable talent for this sport and for this event, the worst she suffered was the loss of half the front bumper. She did blame it for the fact that they eventually came third overall in the event. Everyone else was rather pleased though. ?Why so glum?? asked Dave, who was part of their pit crew. ?You're rookies for goodness sake! Finishing third on your debut event is no mean feat.? ?I could have come second though, maybe even first," sighed Paula. Still, they had a celebration before heading home. Before then though, came the post event press conference. The main story was obvious: two women had arrived on the scene and had made an immediate impact. Upon arriving home, Paula was keen to see Kelly,as well as her family. Even her friends had been keeping tabs on her fledgeling career and called to congratulate her. It certainly made Paula feel better. Better news arrived just before the next event when Kelly came back with a load of stuff for her laptop computer. ?I can now 'attend' meetings just by looking at a camera," she smiled. ?That means I can come and join you on your tour of Britain, or spend time at home when pregnant.? There was no doubt that Paula and Kelly wanted to be parents. Kelly was the ideal choice as Paula knew she wouldn't be able to drive whilst heavily pregnant. So, they made their way to the IVF clinic to get Kelly pregnant. After deciding not to know the donor's identity, the treatment began. After the second attempt, Kelly was confirmed as being pregnant. The news was soon passed onto family and close friends. By now, Linda was already showing signs of her pregnancy, but she explained why. ?I've been told I'm expecting twins!? she smiled. ?Though it's likely they're not identical.? ?Does it matter?? said Kelly. ?You're going to be a busy woman.? ?Busy, and by heck will I enjoy it!? she replied. ?So, you're expecting too?? ?Yes," said Kelly. ?Got to see if there is a way of getting Paula to have one too. I know she wants to have a baby.? ?Well, it has its ups and downs. The up is that you don't have periods during that time, the down is that your back feels the strain," said Linda. ?But after 9 months or so, you see the fruits of your labour and it makes it all worth while.? Kelly did indeed join Paula for the next event on the BRC calender. Sarah was hoping to persuade her boyfriend to come along too, but he too had a busy job. The second event proved to be harder than the first, or so it seemed to Paula. The final position of 5th proved it. Still, the team was optimistic. ?Your first season. You still have a few doubters but if you keep among the top few, you'll certainly win them over," said Nick. ?You're not the favourites to win the title, so you're under no pressure to do so.? * * * With Kelly now able to work from wherever her computer was positioned, she was able to follow Paula about on her BRC tour. In the first few months of her pregnancy, it was no problem. Only when her baby bump became more noticeable and more of a strain on her back, did she decline going. When it came to that, she spent time with her parents. But until then, she was happy to share a hotel room with her beloved Paula. Paula did have breaks between events which allowed her the chance to go home when possible. But if the distance was too far, she settled for a longer stay in a hotel. She missed home at times and was glad for the chance to meet her friends and family. She always kept in touch by phone or by email (Kelly used her laptop for such if needed.) After celebrating her highest finish in an event (2nd), she and Kelly got news that Linda had given birth to her twins. They made it their mission to visit their friends as soon as possible. ?Sorry it's taken so long to respond," said Paula as Kevin opened the door. ?No problem. Just heard you've finished second in your last event," he replied. ?You're doing well.? ?Hi Kev," said Kelly, just behind Paula and now showing a bump of her own. ?You're close, aren't you?? he asked. ?4 months," replied Kelly. ?Anyway, can we come in?? ?Sure, right this way," he said. Paula and Kelly were lead into the living room where Linda was sat holding one of her twins. The other was in a cot. ?Congratulations," said Paula. ?They look wonderful.? ?Boy and a girl," she said proudly. ?This is Katie, (the child she was holding) and in the pram is Paul.? ?We hope you don't mind?? asked Kevin. ?No, not at all," said Paula. ?Paul is a wonderful name.? Kevin went to the kitchen and put the kettle on while Paula and Kelly sat down. ?So, your full time job starts now," smiled Kelly. ?It's a job I'm happy to take on," said Linda. ?We'll be having them christened in a few weeks. We'd like you there if possible.? ?Might be able to," said Paula. ?Depends on the day.? ?We've just heard that Mike and Alicia have named a date for their wedding," said Linda. ?It's in December.? ?Oh, the season will be over by then," said Paula. ?How are you doing points wise?? asked Kevin, who had returned from the kitchen. ?Not in the running for the title, but we could get 3rd," said Paula. ?Whatever, the team considers this a good first season for Sarah and I.? ?Ever going to try the WRC?? asked Kevin. ?In a few years," said Paula. ?We'll be trying again at this first.? They continued to talk in general over their cups of tea, while Kelly couldn't keep her eyes off the infant twins. ?So, who are the godparents?? asked Kelly. ?Our parents," said Linda. ?Naturally, they are overjoyed.? ?You've caught them in a quiet mood," said Kevin. ?When they decide to make a noise, you know about it.? ?Such as sleepless nights?? asked Paula. Kevin just smiled. ?So, what are you hoping for?? ?A daughter, hopefully," said Kelly. ?But a son would do fine.? ?I just hope I get some time to have a 9 month stint," said Paula. ?I would have to take a break from rally cars, but I doubt they'd let me after just one season.? They stayed for a few minutes longer before leaving. They had another couple of stops before going home ? they had their parents to visit. The first were Paula's parents. They were still busy, with Laura still working as a model. She had cut down on her hours though, just so she could spend more time looking after Danielle. Paula's younger sister was nearly 4 now, and now had long brown hair past her shoulders. Alex was just interested in how Paula was getting on in her rally career, while Kelly and Laura talked fashion, and grandchildren. ?You've got to get a win sooner or later," said Alex. ?Some of your performances deserved better.? ?It's not easy with some other good competitors involved," said Paula. ?But it is my first season. Better luck next season.? ?You'll do it though," said Alex. ?I have faith in you.? After visiting her own parents, Paula went along with Kelly to meet her parents. Miriam and Mark were also keen to see the arrival of their first grandchild. They were also keeping tabs on Paula's career. Like Alex and Kevin, they felt that Paula's main challenge for the title would come in her second season. ?You're just feeling your feet at the moment. Next season, you'll know the courses a bit better and you'll be more experienced behind the wheel too," said Mark. * * * Paula didn't have to wait for her second season to get her first win. It came months later, in one of the last few events. Undoubtedly, she and Sarah celebrated with gusto. It wasn't enough to put them in contention for the title, but it did keep them in with a good chance of coming third. As for telling friends and family, Paula had to make several phone calls. Kelly was staying with her parents as the day drew nearer for her child to be born. Paula had been keeping in touch just for that, as she hoped she could be by Kelly's side when the day came. She was in luck, as she was once again spending time between events at home. Kelly was still at her parent's house when her waters broke. Mark and Miriam went with them to the hospital, while Paula made a call to her own parents to tell them where they were. After some time waiting, they got the news that they were waiting for. ?Congratulations, your partner has given birth to a healthy daughter," said the nurse. Paula shared hugs with both Miriam and Mark before they all headed for the ward where Kelly awaited them. The baby girl was in a incubator beside the bed. ?She is ok?? asked Paula. ?She's just fine," smiled Kelly. ?She's absolutely beautiful.? ?Just like you," smiled Paula, giving Kelly a kiss and a hug. ?Have you thought of a name yet?? asked Mark. ?Emma," said Kelly. ?We've had that name on our mind for a while.? Laura and Alex arrived later that afternoon. ?Just need you to provide Emma with a brother or sister," said Alex. ?When I get time," said Paula. ?Don't get me wrong, for I certainly want to have a child too, but I need to arrange things with the team.? Kelly and Emma arrived home a few days later. Paula made the most of her time with them before reporting back to the rally team for the next event. ?Don't worry. The season is almost over and I'll have a lot more time to spend with you," she said. The season finished a month later, with Paula and Sarah securing a third place finish in the final standings. For them, it was a fantastic first season, and they hoped to better it the following season. Though they didn't win any prizes on the track, they certainly made headlines. They were invited to an awards ceremony for motor sports, where Paula won the prize for best newcomer. It at least gave people the chance to see her feminine side, as she wore a black evening dress with her red hair flowing down her back in waves. Kelly was similarly attired in what was her first appearance with Paula. Emma was staying with Mark and Miriam for the night. There wasn't any doubt that Paula's star had risen, though she kept both of her feet on the ground. She and Sarah did another interview for a top motoring magazine, while she also did an interview for a gay magazine too. She was also getting to experience motor shows from the other side. The very same show that she had first met Sarah (though she never mentioned it, for she was a boy at the time), came along once more and she and Sarah were signing autographs for the fans. There were certainly a few girls in the queue too. December saw Kelly and Paula attend Mike and Alicia's wedding. Mike had certainly fell out with his strict parents and had become an Anglican. The wedding was therefore held in the local Anglican church. Kevin returned the favour at his wedding, by being Mike's best man. Despite his fall out, Mike felt a bit bad about his parents not showing up. Alicia had got herself a job at the local zoo, looking after marsupials. Mike was now working in a computer firm. The following year was also busy, with Joanne admitting to everyone that she was pregnant. It was a surprise as she had initially decided against having children, but now that she was having a child, her attitude had changed. The new BRC season saw Paula and Sarah go in as contenders. The current holders were the favourites, but the first and still only female pairing were keen to give them a run for their money. Kelly saw her career continue to rise, as she got her first collection on sale at the store. She found herself going to fashion award ceremonies, with Paula if possible. She continued to work at home though, as looking after Emma was something she thoroughly enjoyed. She was eager to see Emma have siblings to play with, and with Paula yet to get a break from her career, Kelly took on the responsibility herself. It resulted in another daughter: Katie. Paula wasn't put off though, and she did get her chance. Victory in the BRC finally came in her third season, making her and Sarah, the first women to win it. In the press conference that followed the final event, Paula announced that she was taking a year off to have a baby with her partner. Sarah, now married to her long term boyfriend, decided to have a break too. They both announced that they wanted to take on the WRC next, and would be applying to enter after their breaks. Paula became pregnant as planned, and gave Emma and Katie a brother: But it wasn't long when it was discovered that young Luke decided that being a boy wasn't for him. Luke had taken to ignoring his toy cars and turned to playing with his sisters' dolls. He then made it clear that he wanted to wear the same clothes and have ribbons in his hair. Kelly and Paula talked about their gender confused son to each other and to their parents. After much discussion, they decided to let Luke become a girl. They let him wear girls clothes and grow his hair. They decided to rename him Lucy and his secret was known only to his family and close friends. Their children would often visit Laura and Alex, just to play with their aunt Danielle, who was only a few years older than Emma. Laura had just decided to quit her job as a model, just so she could concentrate on looking after Danielle. ?So, what are we to do with Luke?? asked Laura. ?We've spoken to support groups and they have just told us to let him be for now," said Kelly. ?We're just wondering what to do when it comes to school," said Paula. ?If it does result in him wishing to live as a girl, we need to make sure he is safe.? It came to be that Luke went to school as Lucy. Paula went off to tackle the WRC with Sarah, leaving Kelly at home to deal with work and children, though they were never out of touch. But even so, being away from home for lengthy spells did have an effect on Paula. She wanted to spend more time with her children, especially while they were still young. It was down to a choice of touring the world with the rally team or spending time at home being a mother. However, Paula did manage to fulfil her dream of winning the WRC title. It came on their second attempt and cemented her and Sarah's place in motor sport history. The team was shocked however when she decided to retire with immediate effect afterwards. ?I want to thank everyone in my team for several wonderful years. I didn't ever think I would win both my national and world titles in such a short period of time. But now, I want to devote my time to my wife and three children," said Paula. ?I hope that now, other women will try to fill my shoes and follow my lead. Sarah and I are the first women to win the WRC. I hope we are not the last.? So, from then on, Paula became a full time mother, though she did attend sporting events to sign autographs. Kelly was the one who spent more time away from home now. ?So, why didn't you spend another season on the WRC?? asked Kevin one day. Paula had just gone to the post office to post some letters. She had met Kevin along the way and was now on the way back home. ?I've won it. I did what I set out to achieve," said Paula. ?But I missed my family. Seeing the world was always going to be an amazing thing to do, but I have a beautiful wife and 3 wonderful daughters.? ?So, the one is becoming a girl after all?? added Kevin, who knew about Luke/Lucy. ?She is," said Paula. ?Her sisters know her better as a girl, and she is showing no signs of wanting to be a boy again.? ?Taking after you then?? smiled Kevin. ?You could say that," said Paula, a smile on her face too. ?So, how are your kids?? ?The twins are fine, do everything together. James is a bit of a troublemaker though.? ?Just like you then?? smiled Paula. ?Slightly," agreed Kevin. James had been born 2 years after the twins. He had taken more after his father, sharing the same colour hair. The twins had ended up with auburn hair like their mother. ?Well, at least I've had a good influence on the world of motor rallying," said Paula. ?I've heard that some other women are eager to follow in my footsteps. So, my career has certainly been worth it.? ?Good on you," said Kevin. ?Well, Linda will be expecting me back soon. See you then.? ?Bye," said Paula, as she too headed for home. * * * Upon arriving home, Paula was soon surrounded by three young girls. ?Hurray! Red mommy is back!? said Emma. ?Yellow mommy wanted to know where you were," said Katie. ?I only went to post a few letters," replied Paula. Paula and Kelly had been given those names by the girls. That was how their daughters had come to identify them ? by the colour of their hair. ?Good job I don't want to go blonde," said Paula, as she went up to Kelly and kissed her. ?I wouldn't want you to," said Kelly. ?You look too good as a redhead.? ?Just been talking to Kevin. He and Linda are getting on well. Just been on about me cutting my career short," said Paula. ?I take it you told him?? asked Kelly. ?To spend more time with you and the girls," said Paula. ?No amount of trophies will ever replace you. You are the best thing in my life, and I just want to settle down and enjoy being a mother.? ?I'll second that," smiled Kelly. ?Now, I know we have just 4 rooms, but how about a 4th child?? ?A boy or a girl?? asked Paula. ?A boy would be nice, seeing that our only son is very much like you," said Kelly. ?But I'm not fussed.? ?You want me to be the mother though?? asked Paula. ?Well, I've had 2, while you've only had the one," said Kelly. ?It will even things up a bit.? ?We'll see," smiled Paula. Their house had 4 upstairs rooms, plus a bathroom. They had bought a house not far from the one that they had rented. The main bedroom was theirs, while two of the rooms were for the children. Emma and Katie shared one, while the other was for Luke, now Lucy. The fourth room was where Paula had placed her toy car collection and autographed photos. Her trophies and medals were on display too, including the F1 racing jacket that she had won at go-karting. Among her model cars were now a few that had extra special meaning to her: a model of her own rally car, in 1:18 scale, complete with a plinth that had both hers and Sarah's names on it, celebrating their BRC win. A model to commemorate their WRC win was in the process of being released, and that would be added to her collection too. The model she had, came with figurines of her and Sarah too. ?This is the only way that men are going to get me in their house," she joked to Kelly as they looked at the trophies and models. ?But what has a model Paula got when I've got the real thing?? said Kelly. ?It certainly hasn't got what it takes to satisfy you in bed," smiled Paula. The children were prevented from entering the ?trophy room? at their own will whilst they were younger. Paula did take them in though now and again, to show them what their ?Red Mommy? was good at and what she had achieved. She wasn't bothered if none of their children took an interest in cars. Back in the living room, Paula sat down with Katie in her arms. She looked over at the cabinet in the corner of the room. Amongst the photos on display was a photo of them in their wedding dresses, taken on their wedding day of course. Inserted between photo and frame, in the corner, was a piece of paper with red trim. Paula often looked at that paper and smiled. She certainly held no grudge against it, unlike the first time she saw it. It had promised her a fortune, a wedding in silk. She now had a beautiful wife and 3 wonderful children, with another child possibly on the way. For now, she was very happy and very content. THE END
