Now have you got all you need?" said Laura. "I think so," said Paula, pointing to her handbag. "Ok, I'll have something prepared for you when you get back. Now go and do your best," smiled Laura. "Will do," said Paula, giving Laura a hug. She arrived at school at 9:30am. She walked in through the main entrance and was directed to the dining hall. "Over here!" came a voice. It was Kevin. He was with Linda and they were seated at the table they usually had dinner at. "Looking good," said Linda. "Feeling nervous?" "Petrified!" said Paula. "Oh, here's Kelly." Kelly soon found them and sat by Paula. "Morning all, morning beautiful," she said. She gave Paula a kiss on the lips. "Where's Mike?" "Looking for Alicia, last I knew," said Linda. "Oh, here he is." "You found her then?" asked Kevin. "I got carried away," he admitted. "She had to run to form." There were two teachers in the dining hall, just monitoring them. They were waiting for the cue to lead the growing number of students into the assembly hall. "Oh, by the way," said Linda. "Watch your backs. The creeps are back." Kelly and Paula glanced around and noticed Debbie and her friends around a table on the far side. "Don't think they'll be any bother though," said Kevin. "Any more trouble and they'll be thrown out." "How do you know?" asked Paula. "We saw them come in and that teacher over there gave them a quiet word," said Linda. "Just watch your backs when you leave though." They were all summoned to make their way to the hall minutes later. They stuck together until they reached the hall. There they had to find the table which had been designated to them: a slip of paper with their name and reference number on, was laid on top. They were asked to take out their writing equipment and then put their bags on the stage. One teacher stood on the stage, alongside a blackboard. On the blackboard, written in chalk, were the name of the subject, the school reference number, start time and end time. The times hadn't been written on as yet. Two more teachers stood at the bottom of the stage, each holding a pile of exam papers. "Ok, everyone seated?" asked the teacher on the stage. Two more teachers then started dishing out the exam papers. "Once you get your papers, write your name and reference number in the spaces provided. The school reference number is written up here. I hope you can all read it." There was a sudden flurry of writing going on as the students wrote the details on the exam papers. "Ok, the time is 10:03," said the teacher on the stage. "The exam will end at 12:03. I want absolute silence. If you need help, raise your hand." He wrote the times on the blackboard as he said this. "Ok, you may now begin." "If you happen to finish before the time, I suggest you go through it again," added the teacher. "If you get stuck on a question, move on to the next one and come back to it if you have time." Paula turned the first page and began. She found it easier than expected, though some questions did force to think for a few seconds. The sound of lesson bells went off in the background, but within the hall, there was silence with the exception of the occasional cough. She was finished within the time and spent the few remaining minutes to go through some answers again. "Ok, pens and pencils down," said the teacher. "Please remain seated and silent while the papers are collected." They did so and as soon as the papers had been collected, went to fetch their bags. They then were filed out of the hall quietly. "What you doing for lunch?" asked Kelly. "Going home," said Paula. "I'm meeting mom in town," she replied. "How did you find it?" "No problem really," said Paula. "I think I faired ok." "Same here," said Kelly. "Well, see you later." With that, Paula made her way home.
