(Raven) Anybody can feel free to discuss whatever they like. It's good to see
Carol Collins here. Rhialto also.
(Carol_Collins) I have to leave in a few minutes. Just wanted to show support for
one of my favorite authors.
(Rhialto) Umm, I'm not sure what you have written so far?
(Carol_Collins) Just pick anything written by the Raven. You will enjoy it.
(Raven) I have approximately 35 stories on Fictionmania, two under another name
and about 3 on another site.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Also 3 more to soon appear on Fictionmania!
(Carol_Collins) I really liked the Pamela Anderson story, but it is unfinished.
(Raven) So many things have happened to Pamela since I put the story down that I
wonder if it is too outdated now!
(Carol_Collins) Deflation, and all?
(Raven) Right. Deflation, divorce to Tommy, etc.
(Carol_Collins) Which one of your stories do you think is the best?
(Raven) Good question. I think my best work was probably "In Your Dreams".
However, that is not my favorite.
(Carol_Collins) Which is your favorite story?
(Raven) My favorite, which I think captures the passion of a body switch is "Soul
Exchange: At First Sight."
(Carol_Collins) What was the plot to "Soul Exchange"?
(Raven) An angel by the name of Noel gives the Archangel Michael a "coffee
break." During that time, 10 years in our time, she switched the souls of men and
women. Now she has a mandate to switch them back. This is one of those switch
backs. It takes place at a bar during love at first sight.
(Carol_Collins) I thought that I had read everything that you have written. I
missed that one.
(Raven) I can announce here for the first time anywhere that this story is
currently being turned into a comic book.
(Carol_Collins) Great news!!!
(Raven) I'm very excited about it.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Can we spread this news?
(Raven) Yes. Spread the news. I might be working on still another comic book
with another of my stories.
(Carol_Collins) I always wanted my SRU and the Gang Bangers made into a comic
book.
(Raven) I think it is the next step in our evolution.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) What name are you going to write it under?
(Raven) Raven of course.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) So what are the three stories you have written at another
site?
(Raven) It is the pay-site TG Stories: "One Wedding, and One Funeral" "Fetishes"
and "Sexual Harassment"
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Would will you tell us which the stories here on
Fictionmania are not under Raven?
(Raven) They are under the pen name "Ariel" or "Ariel the Fallen Angel". One is
the story involving Ally McBeal. The other is called "The Downward Spiral".
(Chilli) Raven, what spurred you to write under more than one Nome De Plume?
(Raven) Good turn of a phrase. Another good question. There are two reasons:
My favorite movie is "The Crow." The Raven is the female of the Crow. The second
reason is that the raven is the trickster of birds. By a strange twist of fate, I
was born on April 1.
(Chilli) Well, Happy Belated Birthday!

(Raven) Good one. I'm an attorney in real life so that was a double entendre!
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Why do you write TG stories?
(Raven) TG has always interested me as a child. I had all of these stories
stored up in my head and decided to write them down.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) What was your first story?
(Raven) My first story was entitled "Justice" which I posted on
alt.sex.stories.moderated That story was later revised into "A Child's Simple
Sense of Justice."
(Mindy) What do you think is the best story you have ever written and why?
(Raven) The best story that I have written is "In Your Dreams" because it was
intricate involved, and I had something to say.
(Carol_Collins) At what age were you when you began to write?
(Raven) I'd say about 20 years.
(Chilli) What triggers an inspiration for a new story for you?
(Raven) Sometimes it can be a girl I see, sometimes it is a simple phrase. It can
be anything really.
(newgirl) Who is your favorite TG writer?
(Raven) There are sooo many good ones out there, including some in our presence.
However, my favorite is Elizabeth Bennett.
(Janet) Have any of your stories ever been translated to video or film?
(Raven) Not yet. I would love to do a film. I announced earlier that one of my
stories is being made into a comic book. I am working with some other artists
also.
(Chilli) Can you describe your writing process? Do you outline? What parts do
you write first?
(Raven) I don't outline. I sit down, and it just, sort of, comes out.
(newgirl) Have you ever written professionally like for Reluctant or Sandy
Thomas?
(Raven) Nothing for Sandy Thomas or Reluctant.
(Mindy) Where did you get the idea for Wayfarer? It is so powerful!
(Raven) That started as a small story, and I kept on getting ideas. Then Caleb
Jones started to add ideas. It was never done before. I want to take that to a
place where nobody has before. I have plans for that story.
(Mindy) Do you consider it your most powerful statement?
(Raven) Not yet. It may eventually be. This is fun!
(Chilli) Do you prefer the written word only or image-enhanced stories?
(Raven) I prefer written.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Which story has gotten you the most reaction?
(Raven) By far it is "Thirteen".
(Mindy) Your early stories on Fictionmania seem playful, like "Candy Monroe",
some of the Djinn stuff, yet recently you seem to be writing more of a social
statement, is that on purpose?
(Raven) I must admit that they were. I don't know why I got away from the
playful things. I think I just decided that I wanted to say something, express
something that was inside. I do want to get back to the lighter stuff.
(sue) What do you tap into for fresh ideas when "the well seems to run dry?"
(Raven) Good question. I'm in one of those modes now. I just try to think of
some fantasy that I've had that I haven't put to paper yet.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Who has inspired you?
(Raven) Jack Chalker, which goes without saying. I read two stories early on
that really got me hooked. They were "Jessica" and "Brandi" I'm not sure who the
authors were. Elizabeth Bennett and the Professor inspire me to be better, as
they are so literate.
(Chilli) How do you go about writing collaborative stories? That is, how do you
work out which author writes what?
(Raven) Good question Chili. This may take a few passes to explain.
(Chilli) Well, you've had enough softball questions (g)
(Raven) Some ask me to collaborate. If I don't know them it's kind of hard. I
tend to take over the project. Others, like Eric and Caleb know my moves. We
just click! Eric and I work well together. He leaves a lot of open spaces in his
stories. I write in between the spaces, and add veracity. That is how "In Your
Dreams" was born. "In Your Dreams" was originally a 30k story. By writing in
between the spaces it grew to 300k.
(sue) Are there any topical areas you consider "off limits" when you outline or
plot out a story?
(Raven) I don't like violence unless there is a point to it. I don't like mean
spirited stories.
(Mindy) What type of stories do you not read and or will never write, and why?
(Raven) I don't really like CD or she-male stories. I don't like
mean-spirited/revenge stories. I like the idea of a voluntary TG. I'll write
anything if I think I can stretch myself. A good example is "What Goes Around,
Cums Around." That was mean and revenge oriented. I got out a lot of anger in
that one.
(Mindy) You have commented many times you are a perfectionist, which story do you
want to pull back and rewrite?
(Raven) Really tough question! It would probably be an earlier work. Maybe
"Daisy"?
(Mindy) Hmmm! I like Daisy just the way it is!
(sue) Do you think this genre is becoming established so that it might become a
bit more mainstream in terms of publishing?
(Raven) I really do. I think mainstream is just around the corner, and I think
one or more of the authors on this site may break out to a good career! There is
a LOT of talent here!
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) Why do you pick on Eric so much?

(sue) Do you follow a "stream of consciousness" outline or do you follow a device
such as "The Hero's Journey" or some other form of narrative style when developing
your stories?
(Raven) I don't think life follows an outline. Why should a story? I have a
starting place, and ending place, and a message. Then I write. I play and see
where it takes me. Sometimes I'm surprised where it ends up.
(sue) That was an excellent answer!!!
(Mindy) When is a story finished, I see some stories edited to death, while some
need more editing. You seem to have struck a fine balance! Could you explain to
others what to look for?
(Raven) I am a firm believer in not over-editing. I think your first thought is
usually your best. I think you "homogenize" a story by over editing. The thing
that usually gets left on the cutting floor is emotion.
(Mindy) You mean that by over-editing they edit out the raw emotion?
(Raven) Yes. over-editing weeds out raw emotion. I once read a
simple formula for writing/editing that I follow. It works. You write a story
three times:
1) On the first pass, you write the basic plot.
2) On the next pass, add a sentence between every sentence that you've already
written. It should be embellishment or exploration of what you've written. This
is good for adding dialogue. You also edit as you read through.
3) The last pass is to add still another sentence between every existing sentence.
This is more of stage direction in describing what is going on around the
characters as they interact.
(sue) That is a very sound and interesting way of developing a story, Raven.
(Raven) I urge people to try it. It works. That was written by Michael
Crichton.
(Elizabeth) I'm confused: I thought that authors *revise* and *editors* edit. I
wish I could!
(Raven) I'll volunteer Elizabeth!
(Chilli) At the risk of stepping on any toes, I want to ask about your
self-imposed exile awhile back. Did you gain anything by leaving? Did being gone
"clear the air" at all for you?
(Raven) As to my exile: It wasn't "quite" an exile. I wrote under Ariel the
Fallen Angel during that hiatus. I still have issues, Chili. I'm working them
out.
(Chilli) I'm glad you're back.
(Raven) I did learn that people easily forget you if you go.
(sue) How do you see this genre evolving in the next several years?
(Raven) I think those that first get into this genre write about sex and fantasy.
Then they start to evolve. I think we will explore the nature of sex roles
themselves.
(Devo) Eric's 'The Test' series was quite good, have you ever thought of starting
an on-going batch of interrelated stories yourself?
(Raven) I already have Devo. The Djinn series are inter-related with a larger
background story going on. I agree. The "Test" is quite good, even though it
knocked the then number one story of all time off.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) You mentioned that Sapphire was a help to you, could you say
how?
(Raven) She discovered me. I wrote my first story "Justice" and posted it to
Newsgroups. Then I started to write my second story "MiB" She found that, and
asked me to write it for her site.
(Mindy) Which story has the most of you in it?
(Raven) Every story has an aspect of my true personality. Ai was the most "me."
I would have to go back to "Soul Exchange: At First Sight." I think I pretty
much described me, my tastes and my passions.
(Moderator_Anne-Mal) What types of stories don't you like?
(Raven) CD stories, She-Male Stories and mean spirited stories. The mean
spirited for obvious reasons. CD and She-male for different reasons. It takes
guts to do CD and She-Male. It's too close to real life. What I write is pure
fantasy.
(Mindy) What question do you have for your readers?
(Raven) Hmmm.
(Mindy) Or make that fans instead.
(Raven) What would you prefer me to write? Serious or light? Sex or implied sex
or no sex?
(Mindy) I really liked the first "Ye Old Body Shoppe" and "Candy Monroe" but I'm
really wrapped up in "Wayfarer".
(Raven) I like "Wayfarer" a lot. That story is meant to be romantic.
(sue) I think a light touch at times, with implied sex, so that the reader's
imagination can fill in the pieces, can be an interesting "write".
(Raven) I'd like to know what pushes my readers buttons.
(Mindy) This is our first attempt to do this, we are open to suggestions after the
first session is finished.
(Raven) If I could only spell!
(Jenny) If you couldn't finish a story, would you send it to Fictionmania for the
subscribers to finish?
(Raven) I would if they would like to finish it.

(Raven) I have a question: If you'all have to pick one of my stories to
complete, which would it be?
(Devo) "Cosmic Joke"!
(Jenny) Ditto.
(sue) Umm.. That's not a bad choice, Devo..
(Mindy) The Djinn story where the father is at school and the kids are the
parents!
(Morthien) I'd say the one you've been after me to start Raven.
(???) What keeps you going?
(Raven) What has inspired me? This is from the heart: the sense of community
that Mindy has created. That is what keeps me going. It's the thought that I'm
not alone. It makes me want to share.
(Mindy) No, it is what everybody created, on the TG-list, the hyperboard and the
suggestions!
(Raven) True.
(sue) Yes.. Very much so.. This area is the fallow ground for ideas to further
germinate.
(Mindy) I don't say much on the list and to much on the hyperboard. But it is
everybody who makes it feel that way!
(Anne-Mal) So how do you feel this chat night went?
(Raven) I like what we did tonight. It was a good experience. It should be a
regular activity.
(Morthien) I agree. I would like more of them, or social gatherings.
(Regal) Raven, any new stories you are currently working on?
(Raven) Many stories Regal.
(Jenny) Who's your favorite Superhero and what scenario would you put him/her in?
(Raven) I'd have him body switch with Voodoo of WildC.A.T.S. They are both from
New Orleans.
(Morthien) Yeah that would be interesting.
(Raven) I was planning to write a story on that, involving the Thieves' Guild. A
body thief would be the ultimate thief.
(Morthien) *Jumps up and down!* Body thieves!!
(Rebel1) Raven, I have always like your story Thirteen, any chance you might
continue it on?
(Raven) That begs the question which of my stories would you'all like to see a
sequel to?
