Chat Guest: Paul1954 On Sunday June 6, 1999 at 2pm PST Moderated by Wendy-J Edited by Anne-Mal You can e-mail Paul at: [email protected] (*Wendy-J) You are now all on candid mike! (Paul1954) I do know a few pubs, but that one is all imagination. Maybe I need more research! (*Wendy-J) Yep! (Darkside) Wheatsheaf. A classic Brit. name for a pub. (Lorna) Wheatsheaf? Sounds like too much whole grain goodness! (Paul1954) Oh, we've got lots of good names. We spend a lot of time thinking about them! (LizBennett) I like the Crown and Thimble, myself. (*Wendy-J) |_|0 (Paul1954) Thanks Wendy! I needed that. (Darkside) Wendy? What's the |_|o thingy? (*Wendy-J) A stein or pint of my very best ale! (*Wendy-J) Are we about ready? Here we are for the second chat of the week folks! (LizBennett) Perhaps we should wait a few moments? There are only a few of us. (Darkside) And there's still 5 minutes to go! (*Wendy-J) Well, someone wanna run to the Fictionmaniacs room and get some? I'll wait. (LizBennett) Ok. (*Wendy-J) Like my gold star now? The updates get it going! (Lorna) |_|o (-:} {:-) o|_| A toast to Paul, and us all! (PJ) (Oh cool! I'm early enough to get a good seat!) (Paul1954) Hi PJ! (*Wendy-J) Let's redo that when Liz returns! + LizBennett has arrived. (LizBennett) Well, I extended invitations. (*Wendy-J) Thanks Liz! Ok, try that one again Lorna! (LizBennett) Sure thing. (Lorna) |_|o (-:} {:-) o|_| A toast to Paul, and us all! (*Wendy-J) |_|0 Here here! Editor's Note- That Wendy, any excuse! (Paul1954) Cheers! (Darkside) Make mine a Y! (A glass of wine.) (*Wendy-J) Carol! |_|0 (PJ) (Is it "here, here" or "hear, hear"? Seriously. That might come up in a story of mine!) (*Wendy-J) I don't rightly know!! (LizBennett) It's "hear, hear." (*Wendy-J) I sit corrected! (LizBennett) Meaning, "hear him, hear him." (PJ) (And I'm making notes!) (*Wendy-J) Thank you, my dear. (LizBennett) Ta. (PJ) (Thank you, Liz. See Wendy? Informative as well as entertaining!) Editor's Note- I think it depends if you have a glass in front of you! If you don't, you're desperately telling the bartender, "Over here, over here!" (Becca) Hi r u PJ Wright? I love your stories if you are! :) (PJ) (I r Thanx!) :) (Paul1954) Welcome all! I hope the time is OK for all! Editors Note- Our first European friendly chat! (*Wendy-J) With the numbers scrolling to the nine point. LOL! Here we go! The second Author Chat of the week staring Paul1954! The rules of the night are simple. If you have a question whisper to me and I will tell you where you are in the queue. Remember the spotlight is on Paul1954! Paul, do you have an opening remark???? (Paul1954) Hi! Thanks to all who are here at this unusual hour. It makes a change for me to attend one! (Darkside) There's still time for Wendy to put another hyperboard message up! :) Editors Note- This is in reference to that fact that Wendy got a little too 'enthusiastic' with advertising her chats. (LizBennett) Paul, in "Tabloid Tales," the opening scene is apparently in a Fleet Street pub. Are you, in fact, in the newspaper business, may I ask? (Paul1954) No, I'm in Marketing, which some may say is just as bad. (*Wendy-J) Paul you seem to run the gamut with your stories with all sorts of situations all kinds of twists and styles. Where do you get the ideas from? (Paul1954) I really try and make things as different as possible, it's not easy working in a genre such as this. Most of my ideas come when I am travelling or sleeping, although sleep is best! (Ellie) What stories are you working on now? (Paul1954) I have about 6 on the go, the latest is a SF story, my favourite type. (Darkside) Paul, Do you have ever have any trouble with the language differences between the UK and US? (Paul1954) I don't really know, what do you think? (PJ) (I think Paul talk English as gooder as anyone and more better than most!) (Darkside) I don't have a problem, having lived on both sides of the pond. (LizBennett) [Actually, the differences between American Standard English and British Standard English are not very great.] (Darkside) The use of the word 'fanny' is very different though! (PJ) (You try wearing pants in London and see where it gets you Liz!) ;) (LizBennett) I never wear pants, thank you. (Darkside) Liz, try asking for a fanny pouch too. (*Wendy-J) LOL (PJ) There have been several discussions about the nature of our writing. The words "censorship" and "pornography" often surface. What are your thoughts on this? (Paul1954) I don't really like censorship, although some of the things I read turn my stomach, I choose to ignore those! (PJ) (A follow up?) (Lorna) You seem, at least lately, to use SWI style stories. Do you like matching pictures to your work? Oh! Do PJ first! - Paul1954 just left. (PJ) (Thanks Lorna :) Do you feel... Oops! I guess I put him on the spot.) (Lorna) (PJ, goferit doll! We're all in this together!) (*Wendy-J) He'll be right back folks. The tab space is a no no here! Fastest way to get disconnected! (Darkside) Hey, what'd we say? + Paul1954 has arrived. (*Wendy-J) Welcome back! (Paul1954) Whoops sorry, line dropped. (*Wendy-J) Ok, where were we! + Anne has arrived. Editor's Note- Uh oh! Trouble has arrived, this is your editor incognito! (Not a very original disguise!) (PJ) Paul, do you think that we do a good enough job of self-policing? Or are we sometimes shooting ourselves in the foot? *Bang* (There, done!) (Paul1954) No, I think in general it's fine, there aren't that many issues that arise. (Lorna) Lately you've posted several SWI's. Do you like that format? Do you find it hard to match pictures to tales, or vice-a-versa? (Paul1954) No, I've not really been funny enough. It was Eric who started me on this rocky road! (Darkside) Everything's Eric's fault! :) (Paul1954) Absolutely, the man's evil! (Nora-Adrienne) Paul, I think that you were born in 1954. Am I right? (Paul1954) I am not ready to reveal that yet! (Nora-Adrienne) Chicken! (Paul1954) Another drink would help! (*Wendy-J) |_|0 (Paul1954) That's better! The answer is no. (*Wendy-J) Paul, where did you develop the passion to write? (Paul1954) From this site! I was always an avid reader but Fictionmania came along, and I thought why not! It's a lot of fun! (Ellie) To pick up a recent question, who do you write for? Yourself or your readers? (Paul1954) Myself, but always with the reader in mind. I have found though, for every one you please you displease another, so I don't worry about that any more! Although unfair criticism hurts! (PJ) (I'll kick you in the shins the way I did Chilli!) Which is your favorite of your stories, and why? (Paul1954) I really like "Double Dare", PJ. I thought that was really original! What's yours? (PJ) (I'd agree!) (Lorna) Do you have 'personal' reasons for being a fan/writer of TG-Tales that you're willing to share with this crowd? (Paul1954) I don't know really, from a very early age I have been interested in this type of fiction, always getting a thrill from it. I consider myself straight though, and have a family. (Darkside) Paul, yesterday I was lamenting the fact the Hollywood hasn't done a 'serious' big budget TG movie. Any stories you'd like to see made into a movie? (Paul1954) One of your epics Darkside, I really love them, how about you? (Darkside) Thanks. "Change of Pace", an SRU cartoon series, would be huge fun. (Paul1954) Another good one would be one of Raven's, "Thirteen" is a favourite of mine! (Carol__Collins) TG fiction began with Greek Mythology, but Victorian England made it a true art form. Is it very wide spread in England today? (Paul1954) No, not really. It's hard finding this type of work. How about in the US? (Carol__Collins) Mostly found in some dirty book stores! TG fiction is seldom found in the main stream fiction stories. (PJ) (Isn't that a wonderful commentary?) (*Wendy-J) Paul, if you could get one story back which would it be and why? (Paul1954) The last one, I felt I rushed it too much! (*Wendy-J) What caused you to feel rushed? (Paul1954) I'll qualify that! I mean the last AF one. I got fed up with it and just wanted it out of the way in the end! It's a failing I sometimes have. (Darkside) How long, on average does it take you to write a story? (Paul1954) I usually have about 5 on the go! It takes an average of 2 weeks. (Darkside) That's a lot. I can only manage one at time. (*Wendy-J) 2 weeks! (Ellie) Speaking of recent stories, I enjoyed "Dumb Blonde". Are you planning a sequel, maybe involving the sister or another story set in that time period? (Paul1954) Thanks Ellie! I've been asked that by a few people, so yes. (PJ) Which comes first for you, the character or the plot? (Paul1954) Gosh, that's hard! I think the character usually drives the plot for me though, I really get into them. (Lorna) When do you find time to write so much? (Paul1954) I usually write on my journeys to work, the laptop is wonderful! (Lorna) Does your family/friends know about your 'interest'? (Paul1954) No, no one knows about my interest. (Ellie) How do you plot out your stories? (Paul1954) It varies, sometimes I wake up with a complete story in my head, sometimes I sketch it out but, usually I just do what my characters demand. (Darkside) Paul, have any of your characters lived in you beyond the life of the story. For me, Dr. Bexley will forever be part of me. (Paul1954) No, I'm usually on to the next idea by then. (PJ) You say you get into your characters. Do they ever "talk" to you? (Paul1954) No, I usually live through them! They're me in my good and bad points. (PJ) That's an intriguing comment, you "live through them". Could you elaborate? (Paul1954) It's classic fantasy, wish fulfillment. (PJ) Well, after that, the next question is obvious... (Paul1954) Go on, go on! (PJ) If you could be any of your characters, whom would you be? (Paul1954) Can I come back to you on that, I'll have to think about it! (PJ) (Please.) :) (Paul1954) Promise. (Ellie) What about the characters in Tabloid Tales? Do they have an on-going life? Does the series? (Paul1954) I think so, although I have no fresh ideas on them yet. (*Wendy-J) Paul, What is the major source of inspiration for a story? An experience, a comment, a sight? (Paul1954) Anything Wendy, anything at all! It's just 'Escaping the Rat Race'. It can come to me on a journey, travelling is usually an inspiration. For me, I like travelling. (*Wendy-J) Pure escapism then. (Paul1954) Yes, totally. I always want to escape my working life! (*Wendy-J) You mentioned it as a form of fantasy fulfillment. How so? (Paul1954) I think so, I suppose it must be as I identify with everyone I write about! PJ, I picked a character, Tony in "Sultan's Choice". (PJ) (Why?) (Paul1954) I like that one! See my comments on wish fulfillment! (Nostrumo) Do you work more in images or more in scenes? (Paul1954) Scenes every time! I am not a visually inspired person, music does it for me. (Anne) Do you think that there should be any age limit on characters? (Paul1954) No, although it depends on what the characters do. (Anne) What do you mean by what they do? (Paul1954) I don't like children being abused, especially by family. (Lorna) If you HAD to be a woman, who's your real-life choice? (Paul1954) Shirly Manson from Garbage, or Kate Bush. Kate Bush I adore, she has so much talent! While Shirly Manson attracts me, she's so small! (Nostrumo) Back to the music. (Paul1954) That's my passion in life! (Nostrumo) You said music is your way. What kind of music? Contemporary or more the classical ones? (Paul1954) Heavily into Bowie (a big inspiration) and the stuff life Foo Fighters etc. (Nostrumo) With or with out vocals? (Paul1954) Either. (Ellie) Have you ever submitted any of your fiction, TG or otherwise for publication? (Paul1954) No Ellie, I've have no confidence in my work. (Ellie) The rest of us do. You should. (PJ) How does it work, Paul? How do you get inspiration for words from music? (Paul1954) The music sets the mood, lyrics can be interpreted in so many ways. My next story is based on a Bowie song and at least 10 of my stories were inspired by various lyrics. (PJ) (Okay, next time I write with the CD player "on"!) (Paul1954) I'm playing now, as we speak! (Stephanie) Have you ever had characters refuse to do what you initially wanted them to do? Like they have a mind of their own? (Paul1954) No never, that's a strange concept for me, have you? (Stephanie) It's happened once or twice! :) (Paul1954) Not with me, I'm a control freak! (Anne) Do you have any of your stories not on the TG-list or Fictionmania? (Paul1954) Not completed ones, I always let them out. (Lorna) How do you deal with criticism, constructive or otherwise? (Paul1954) I hate criticism, it upsets me at first, later I rationalize it and find that sometimes others are right. You can't learn without it. (Chilli) Sorry I'm late, gang. (Anne) Do you think that we are creating an important body of work here? (Paul1954) Oh yes, how many people's sanity has it saved, mine for sure! (Anne) Like a literary movement. (Paul1954) I don't know if I can judge that. (Anne) Why not? As one of the movers you should be able to have an opinion! (Paul1954) See an earlier answer, I suffer from a lack of confidence in my work. (PJ) I still don't understand that! (Paul1954) What PJ? (PJ) Your lack of confidence. (Anne) With the number you have written! I need that lack of confidence!! (Chilli) Me either, Paul. Why a lack of confidence? (PJ) (Considering the quality of the work!) (Paul1954) I find it hard to be subjective about what I do. (Stephanie) I think we all have moments when we just sit and look at our work and think 'This is crap' even when it is brilliant. (Paul1954) *Blush* (Darkside) I get that all the time. That's why it's a good idea to have a friend you can bounce drafts off of. (Anne) Okay, a show of hands, who thinks his work is great! I (*Wendy-J) I do! (PJ) Me! (How could you not?) (Chilli) Here! (Stephanie) Me too! (Chilli) Two hands! (Paul1954) *Lots of blushes* Thanks guys! (*Wendy-J) |_|0 Paul (Paul1954) That's better, I was thirsty! (*Wendy-J) My finest! {Ok, I think we are going to open this up to the house, remember Paul still has the spotlight!) (PJ) I think there are other, practical considerations for not publishing, but lack of talent is just not one of them. (Anne) Too much beer, that is the problem! (*Wendy-J) LOL (Lorna) A round for all! |_|0 |_|0 |_|0 |_|0 Y Y Y Y (Wine too!) (*Wendy-J) Oh thank U! (Darkside) Lorna, don't forget U. (A cup of warm milk for the old folks. (Not that I'm one of them.)) (*Wendy-J) Hey! (_)o is mug of warm milk! (Chilli) Paul, I've noticed that you tend to devote a lot of time to psychological development. Is that more important to you than other aspects of the story? (Paul1954) Yes, the characters and story line are everything for me. (Chilli) (Heck, I've got to make up lost time here with my questions! It's not every day I get to chat with a master!) (Paul1954) Come on Chilli, you're pretty hot yourself! (*Wendy-J) Yes indeed! (Chilli) A tiny ember in the larger fire, my friend. What drives your story line? (Paul1954) The characters wishes. (Chilli) So, do your characters drive your story? Do you follow their lead? (Paul1954) Yes, I rarely have an ending when I start out, endings in the genre are a weak point too for a lot of stories! (Stephanie) Hmmm, that's true. (Chilli) You're telling us that you just "make it up as you go along"? *Grin* (Paul1954) Usually, that's why I have at least 5 or 6 on the go! (Chilli) If you think the endings are weak, what do you suggest to improve them? (Paul1954) It was a general comment on TG stories, especially if the plot is weak. (PJ) (You want to learn to write strong endings? Try a mystery. Seriously.) (Ellie) Tell us about the rest of the ones now in the works. (Paul1954) The SF tale I mentioned earlier, a W.W.II idea, a body swap transformation rather than mind (No magic in this one), plus a body swap from a straight guy into a pre-TS. I've never seen that done before, I hope! (Chilli) Paul, that's a wild idea. I love it. Hey, while you're pouring there, Wendy, draw me a draught of Guinness, please. *Grin* (*Wendy-J) |_|0 |_|0 Guinness for Chilli and Paul! (Chilli) (Thank you, Madame! You're most kind.) (rebel1) Paul I really liked your story "Blessed are The Meek", I thought it was one of your best. Do you agree? (Paul1954) Thanks rebel, and also for your e-mail earlier. No, I don't, not really. (Lorna) Do you think that not having a place to go (ending) makes your journey any harder, or longer? (UU-for Darkie...what am I anyway, the toastmistress?) (Paul1954) Yes, although I must stress it was a general observation. I don't release anything until I'm happy! (Apart from the last one!) (Darkside) Lorna, *Imitation cockney accent* your round mate! (Paul1954) *Non imitation accent* And here! (*Wendy-J) |_|0 Paul (PJ) I find it interesting that a "control freak" will set out without a clear objective. Where then is your control? Over the characters? (Paul1954) No, I always have an objective, it's just sometimes it deviates on route. (PJ) Ah! Okay. Now I see. (Chilli) I wish I did. (Paul1954) And me! (PJ) ("have an objective" or "see", Chilli?) (Chilli) I don't see how Paul's answer makes that any clearer, PJ (PJ) (Got to have an objective in sight, but the characters can sometimes get away and still leave you in overall control. My interpretation, anyway.) (rebel1) Paul where are you getting your pictures from? (Paul1954) Some are scanned, usually just searching round the web. (Anne) Do you have any of your stories posted on the Nifty site? (Paul1954) Anne, about 4 on Nifty. (Anne) A question from last night is how did you get them posted there? (Paul1954) I have found it harder to send them to Nifty. (Nostrumo) Which stories have we have missed and do you want to put them there? (Ellie) How much re-write do you do after the first draft and do *major* things change when you do? (Paul1954) Ellie, I sometimes cut out whole passages. (Nostrumo) And do you put whole passages back into it again? (Paul1954) Nostrumo not always, editing work out is hard though. (Chilli) Paul, do you have a story in mind that you want to tell when you start, or do you just start putting words down? You make it sound like everything that you write is purely happenstance and I refuse to believe that! (Paul1954) Chilli no, I always have a rough idea how it will end, but anything can happen en route. (Chilli) Now *That* I can believe, Paul. But I want to get back to the "ending" issue. (Paul1954) Go Chilli. (Chilli) If you don't know where you're going entirely, how can you know when to end it? And how can you prepare a satisfying ending otherwise? (Paul1954) "Double Dare" was an example of that, I knew that the twins would change and I knew that the brother would get stuck, what grew was the way it happened, that evolved as the story progressed. Also, their affection for each other grew. (Chilli) There's nothing wrong with a story evolving, but I think there's a big difference between story evolution and a run-on story. When do you decide which is which? Not to put you on the spot or anything. *Grin* (Paul1954) Chilli, I don't think I've ever really deviated from a story idea ending. (Feeling well and truly put on the spot!) (*Wendy-J) |_|0 Paul (Chilli) Sorry, Paul. I'm just trying to understand; that's all. I'm pretty dense. (Paul1954) Its OK, I was joking. A bit like Cleo! (Darkside) I'm surprised anyone can type straight after all this drinking. Hope no ones driving home! (*Wendy-J) LOL (Paul1954) Thanks again Wendy! (Stephanie) *Hic* (Ellie) NUI -- Netsurfing Under the Influence (Nostrumo) Isn't this illegal? (*Wendy-J) Not yet! (Nostrumo) The ticket would be interesting! :) (Anne) I notice you are a fast typist! How fast can you type? (Paul1954) Too many years of working on computers. (PJ) *Excluding PJ Wright* (Because I'm not nearly shameless enough to ask THAT!) who are some of your other favorites, Paul? (Paul1954) I like Raven (doesn't everyone), Eric, Cleo Jenny Adams, Ellie, Bashful has made a good start, Chilli. (it all sounds a little sycophantic.) Caleb, Stephanie etc. etc. (*Wendy-J) Only a little? (Stephanie) Nothing wrong with that! :) (Ellie) Thanks for the compliment. [_]0 (Nostrumo) Ok quite big! ;) (Chilli) Hear hear! Ego strokes all around!!! (*Wendy-J) LOL! We are a rum lot aren't we? (Darkside) *Groan* I can beer any more drinking jokes! (*Wendy-J) YEAH! (Darkside) All this drinking really ales me sometimes... (Paul1954) I can feel my belly getting lager all the time. (Ellie) Any Port in a storm! (Lorna) In my humble opinion, perfectionism can kill creativity just as thoroughly as 'writer's block'. Are you ever REALLY happy with your results? (Steph's not doing any more of my toasts!) (Paul1954) Yes, when I'm not rushing them! (Anne) So what do you think of Mindy, since she is not here? (PJ) (Simple answer to that one, Anne. If Mindy wasn't here at all, we'd be at home talking to ourselves.) (*Wendy-J) LOL (Paul1954) She's great isn't she, what a star! (Darkside) Too right, toast to Mindy! *Hic* (*Wendy-J) Hey I thought I had the star tonight! (Ellie) to Mindy 0[_][_]0 (Paul1954) You too Wendy! (*Wendy-J) |_|0 (Nostrumo) Err, could get some thing for my throat? (*Wendy-J) To you all! Me troat. |_|0 (Nostrumo) Thanks? (Darkside) To everyone, *Hic* your'e all my best frienz in the whole worl! (*Wendy-J) u u u u (Shots) (Ellie) 0[_][_]0 is a "melba" a particularly well-bread toast! (Paul1954) I can feel my throat loosening a little. (PJ) Loose enough for "1954", Paul? >:) (Darkside) Seriously this is Paul's time and we still don't know what 1954 stands for! (PJ) (GMTA, Darkside) (Anne) The number of stories he plans to write? (PJ) (They're your address? That's pretty mystically significant to me, at least if I want to sleep in my own bed at night!) (Paul1954) The numbers have a mystical significance for me, they always seem to crop up in my life. I once lived in apartment number 54 on the 19th floor of a high rise. I was 19 when I dropped out of school to follow a life of rock and roll! I was 19 when I met my future wife and every house I've ever lived in has been either a 5 or a 4. My eldest son was born at *wait for it* 19:54pm! Enough! (PJ) (Too weird! "63" keeps cropping up in mine.) (Lorna) Mine's 13, if u can believe that! (Nostrumo) Well someone once said that with some wit you could turn everything into multiples of Pi or e! Editor's Note- Pi starts as 3.14159... *Shudder* 4159 scary! (Darkside) Paul, that's spooky. Do you use 1,9,5 and 4 for the lottery numbers? (Chilli) Oddly enough, computer-related numbers crop up in mine -- 128, 512, 1024, etc. Editor's Note- Powers of 2. (PJ) (Why is that weird for *you* Chilli? ) (Chilli) PJ, I have no idea! *Grin* ;) (Stephanie) I don't have a magic number :( (*Wendy-J) It is 1! ("The loneliest number that..") (Nostrumo) Stephanie, but surely a magical song! *Grin* (Paul1954) Weird! (Lorna) Paul, that word crops up in this crowd a lot! (Paul1954) I'm not surprised really, are you? (Lorna) No. (Chilli) I am, in a way. With everything we see here on the list, you'd think that NOTHING would seem weird to any of us now! (Paul1954) But what a great crowd! (Lorna) |_|o to weird and us all! (Steph, you get water!) (Stephanie) Lorna, I can hold my drink. I can! Now can someone stop the floor revolving? (PJ) Paul, can a SF writer write magic? And vice versa? (Paul1954) I don't know, I try both, does it work? (Nostrumo) What is the difference between Magic and SF? (Stephanie) The line between the two is very blurred! (Nostrumo) Should be, because their essentially the same. (PJ) SF has blueprints, Nostrumo. Magic is "just because". (Paul1954) I agree. (Nostrumo) PJ, Magic has it's blue prints also, but they are called spells. (Ellie) Nostrumo, the props. If it has psionics and aliens, it's SF. If it has magic and elves, it's fantasy. (PJ) ("Elves"? Don't tell that to Spock or Yoda!) (Anne) Just for the record, for some of us, Sci-Fi is an insult! We fans call it SF! Editor's Note- Troublemaker! Why she even changes all Sci-Fi references to SF when she edits the logs! (Paul1954) I think you have to work at SF harder than you do magic. (PJ) I'd agree with that analysis, Paul. (Lorna) Sounds like we could adjourn to rpg/mag-sf and work on it! (Stephanie) Most SF does need some setup which magic rarely does. (Nostrumo) Yup, because you have to give a reasonable explanation! :) (Paul1954) To make it credible! (Stephanie) But both need rules, you can't just rewrite the powers halfway through. (Paul1954) No, but a lot magic is poorly written, poof and you've changed! (Ellie) A lot of pros: Ellison, Poul Anderson, etc. wrote both. Marian Zimmer Bradley writes on the border. Even Asimov and Heinlein wrote some fantasy. (Lorna) Pre-net fiction was SF and porn, that's all there was. Now, well, whooopeee! (rebel1) Paul, Are you familiar with L Sprague de Camp! (Paul1954) No rebel. (Anne) He is an excellent writer! (Chilli) I'll second that, Anne. (rebel1) Try him, you will like him! (Nostrumo) What's he written? (rebel1) It's too bad that so many new writers come out and the old masters are not reprinted! (Ellie) Sprague wrote "Lest Darkness Fall", a great historical SF novel, and a series of stories that parody heroic fantasy. He's also a major writer of Conan stories, and did a biography of Robert E. Howard, the man who created Conan. (rebel1) He also wrote "Gather Darkness" and the "Incomplete Enchanter". (PJ) (Oh, gotta run, folks. Thanks for a *most* enjoyable and informative afternoon!) (Paul1954) Nice one PJ! Thanks for coming! (Lorna) |_|o to ??? (Oh, can't be designated-driver now, I guess!) (LizBennett) Wendy, Anne-Mal just whispered to me that she can't whisper to you, or something and is having trouble connecting, and that she will "be back soon." Darn! Old paste! (Anne) That Anne-Mal bitch ruins everything! (Nostrumo) ???? (LizBennett) ??? (Lorna) ??? (Stephanie) ?? (Paul1954) ??? (Stephanie) ??????????????????????? (LizBennett) (Any one else perplexed?) (rebel1) Hmmm (LizBennett) Um, could you explain that, Anne? (Anne) Just responding to that post you made Liz. Sorry I offended Anne-Mal Editor's Note- That's okay, I know who this 'Anne' is! I will get even! (LizBennett) O, the old paste. My copyboard needs lubrication. (Stephanie) Then there is Jack Chalker whose SF is very similar to his magic ones. Especially with God-style computers in them. (Paul1954) Yes, I like his stuff. (Lorna) He doesn't get much respect from his SF peers though. (Stephanie) Pity that his latest book isn't any good though. (And that's not because there's no TG in it.) (Paul1954) Maybe, but finding his TG stuff was a revelation to me. (Stephanie) Oh yeah! (Ellie) Jack's "River of the Dancing Gods" parodies the heroic fantasy by setting up a system of rules that he quotes from as needed. (Stephanie) I was ten when I read "Midnight at the Well of Souls" and it was fantastic! (Ellie) Try his Wonderland series for a mass of transformation, TG and others. (Paul1954) I've worn out the "Identity Matrix". (Stephanie) My copy is falling apart too! (Paul1954) Another big influence was Angela Carter's "The Passion of New Eve". (Darkside) Getting back on topic, Paul is there anything you wouldn't write about? (Paul1954) Darkside, incest. (Darkside) I'd go along with that, although "Incubus" was as close as I ever want to get to that! It gave me nightmares, the way the serial killer killed his victims. Horrific! (Paul1954) That was a very atmospheric story, I liked it a lot! (Darkside) Thanks Paul. (Chilli) Paul, anything else? Any other "taboo" topics? (Paul1954) Not that I can think of right now. You? (Chilli) I got to answer that the other night, thank you very much. *Grin* (Paul1954) I'll check it in your chat the log, sorry couldn't be there! (Damn time difference!) (Chilli) Negative perspiration, Paul. I almost wasn't there myself! (Ellie) What type of story would you *like* to write? (Paul1954) I'm writing them! (Anne) Would you try writing stories you don't like to write? (Paul1954) No, I have to empathize with everything else it doesn't seem real. (Anne) I mean, a topic on Fictionmania you haven't done. (Paul1954) Yes, I think so, although I really don't relate to the CD ones at all, I'm afraid. I have nearly finished a body swap/CD tale, that's the nearest I'll get. (rebel1) Paul, did the works of Fritz Leiber get across the Atlantic? Any influence? (Paul1954) Yes, I've read some. Not a lot of influence. (Chilli) How about Fredric Brown? A short-short story MASTER! (Paul1954) Never seen his stories Chilli. I really don't get much time to read much anymore, I spend more time writing. (Anne) Yes, he's a mystery great too! (rebel1) Didn't he get the mystery writers award? (Chilli) My favorite of his stories was only two paragraphs long. (Ellie) How about Harlan Ellison? Have you read his "Erotiphobi", a short with a TG ending. (Paul1954) No Ellie. (*Wendy-J) Which would you rather do read or write Paul? (Paul1954) Write I think. I don't live in London, so I find it hard to get to decent bookstores. (Anne) Sorry if this has been asked, but about how many responses do you get for your stories? (Chilli) Good question, Anne. (Paul1954) Not many, hence my lack of confidence sometimes. It tends to be the same people who feedback especially Eric. (Serial feedback giver! God bless him!!!) (Anne) Don't you get confidence from, the number of times your stories are read? (Lorna) (Wow! Where else can one be in the presence of such giants of my favorite genre (And I include all 'mainstream' SF writers too!) Cool! Your humble fan bows!!) (Anne) This site has only existed for a year! It takes awhile to get involved. (Darkside) Hooray for Eric! He has been quiet recently, has Anne-Mal scared him off? (*Wendy-J) Well she is such a B**** (Anne) Eric can't be scared off! He just e-mails in private because of complaints and e-mail problems! Editor's Note- Can you believe that some people complained because he was so public with his praise! Eric rules! (*Wendy-J) ;P (Stephanie) Babe? Bath? Banana? (*Wendy-J) Yea dat too! (Stephanie) I don't get much feedback, though I can't complain, as I'm very bad of sending feedback on stuff I like. (Paul1954) I try and give as much as I can, although it takes weeks to read some of the stories for me! (*Wendy-J) I am so very Grateful Paul! Thank you for coming out Thank you everyone for another memorable evening (LizBennett) Thanks for moderating, Wends! (Chilli) Thanks, Paul! Thanks, Wendy! (Darkside) Thank you to Wendy, who's done such a good job with a drunken rabble! (Chilli) I look forward to reading what I missed! (Stephanie) Yeah me too! (*Wendy-J) Everyone Please put your hands together for Paul 1954! *Clap* (Chilli) *Clap* *Clap* *Clap* (Stephanie) Then I can't type! (Nostrumo) *Clap* (Chilli) And Wendy too! *Clap* *Clap* *Clap* (Darkside) *Clap* *Clap* (Lorna) |_|o one for all and all for each other. Cheers! (Thanx, Paul!!) (Anne) Thanks Paul!! (rebel1) It's in the air! (Stephanie) *Clap* *Clap* (Ellie) *Clap* *Clap* *Clap* (Morpheus) Sorry I got here too late and missed most of it, but anyway... *Clap* *Clap* (*Wendy-J) Hope you have protection Paul! (Darkside) Hey, lots of VD going around (Paul1954) *Bow* *Bow* *Bow* *Bow* (rebel1) AUTHOR, AUTHOR! (Paul1954) Thank you all very much, what a great crowd you all are! (*Wendy-J) Oh dear we are sick! (Chilli) A crowd is only as good as its guest. (Paul1954) The witching hour approaches for me, and I'm feeling a little drunk, work starts for me in 5 hours! So I must leave, thanks all again! (Lorna) (Ok Paul, no more toasts, but mucho thnaks. Great time!) (Darkside) Thanks Paul, it's been fun. (*Wendy-J) Paul Thank You for turning out. (Chilli) G'night, Paul! (*Wendy-J) It's been fun! (Stephanie) Seeya! (Paul1954) G'night all! (*Wendy-J) See ya! (Ellie) Nite, all! - Paul1954 just left. (Darkside) I guess we have to shoo now, huh. (Ellie) As shall I! (Chilli) Adi and os, my friends. Nice chatting with you all again. (Darkside) Alas I have to leave too. I'm about to go out! (Lorna) Great as always. Fine job Wendy!! (Me gonna stagger off to rpg for further investigation of the Magic/SF connection.) *Hic* (*Wendy-J) Thanks, I appreciate it! I feel like a kid in a candy store! And the log goes off!

Chatting bring mother and son together

I used to spend a lot of time on the computer in our house because of work. But as my son Nikhil started growing up, he started getting interested in the computer too. Initially, he would wait patiently, but grudgingly for me to finish with the computer, before he could start working on it. But by the time he became 16 years old, he became more demanding. And kept saying that he needed the computer more than me, as he had to use it to discuss his school homework with his classmates over the...

Chatting with my stepsister

A while after watching my stepsister play with her cunt in her bed, I found myself chatting to her one afternoon while we were home alone. Our parents were out at a show and her and I were having a drink together. Our conversation soon went sexual for some reason and we both felt rather comfortable with each other to talk about our sexual experiences. She soon asked me if I have any fetishes and I replied yes and asked if she had any. She to said she does and asked if I could tell her mine...

Chatting at the Office

Jessica always wore nice but conservative clothes to work.   They didn’t do much to show off what looked like an incredible body, but didn’t necessarily hide it either.   I’d walk by her desk several times a day jus to get a whiff of her perfume or a glance at her cleavage or her neck. We were civil to each other, even friendly, but we rarely went past that professional barrier.   I’d laugh and kid around or at least I’d try, and she didn’t seem to mind the occasional joke that was a bit off,...

Chatting With A Stranger

The Internet is an amazing thing. It can take us anywhere in an instant. It can take us to amazing sensual heights, or to our darkest deepest fantasies. I suppose that's how my story started. I still can't decide whether it's an amazing sensual height, or if it's a deep dark fantasy. I guess I should start by telling you a little about myself. I'm 23 years old, white, five foot six inches tall. I have dirty blonde hair, and green eyes. I'm pretty busty, and feel somewhat sexy with my...

Chatting brings mother and son together

Jyoti was clinging onto me as she danced. Once in a while in between we would kiss. Her pallu had fallen down revealing her fair smooth waist and jutting breasts. Even some of the other guys, dancing with their partners couldn’t help but steal a glance at my wife. My wife had her eyes semi-closed and was gyrating sensuously, oblivious to the rest.of the crowd. I set my plans into motion.. I quietly took out a red rose from my pocket and put it inside her purse. She was so drunk she didn’t even...

big black cock and maried withe woman

The third person I ever had sex with was my husband so you couldn’t call me promiscuous. I lost my virginity aged 18 during a drunken student party and I was not at all impressed with the whole sex thing. The second man came along two years later; he was my first long term love, well a few months anyway. Then there was Paul, we dated; we got engaged and eventually married. I didn’t know and didn’t care if our sex life was good or not, it was good enough for me. We had and still do have sex...

Big fun withe the young bartender

So we went at a nice hotel in town, just a night away for a dinner and some fun. Away from home and the routine. We Rented a suite on the 10th floor and intended to just relax away the day and night We checked out the bar and took a seat in a leather ensconsed booth which was very cozy and private. I got a couple of drinks from, and made some small talk with the bartender. A nice guy about 25 yrs. old. It was early, about 4pm and we had the place to ourselves As I sat in our booth I noticed him...

The United Kingdom of Zoo A fake BBC documentary seriesS12E19 Emma Withe 54 from Oakham

We fade in in the middle of a quiet street, in the low-rise central area of a small midlands town, with one and two story buildings around us. To one side, a long flat warehouse/factory type unit, stocking and fitting tyres for local drivers, to the other, the town’s train station. Looking like a traditional old station, but rebuilt fairly recently. There’s a small car park between us and the station, and it’s almost full. We watch as a car drives down the road toward us, then turns into the...

A construction superintendant has a threesome wwith a fourteen year old girl and her boyfriend

As a construction supervisor I meet all sorts of subcontractors. Working on a Saturday is not uncommon and often the subs bring their teenage sons along to learn the trade. This was the case when I met Dillon. Now I am a straight male but even I have to admit this boy was cute. Small boned, brown wavy hair to his shoulders, blue eyes and an engaging smile. At lunch time Dillon found me in the construction trailer and asked if he could talk to me. “Sure,” I said pushing a chair towards him. He...

Coquette and her cuckold Part 1with paragraphs

Part 1 I had already experienced a number of threesomes in the past with my wife, about four I think. They had always excited me, I’d always got harder and lasted longer than at any other time we had sex together. I never analysed it very much at the time, about why it turned me on so much. I just knew it was going to be one of the most arousing nights of sex I was likely to enjoy – apart from one time when Julie seemed to be interested only in the guy we were with and I felt very much...

Sunnydayzwithu

He was looking forward to going to Verna. It could only be for a limited time but there would be other visits. Even traveling a considerable distance, he thought it well worth the time, there was no sacrifice. Eventually, Verna started to come into view, he slowed his approach and savoured the anticipation, smiling at the butterfly sensation in his stomach. With all the thoughts, feelings and emotions during his advance he neglected to observe one very crucial thing. A mistake was made, a major...

The Beckwith Affair chap 4

August 7 th , 8:00 a.m. Los Angeles “Maggie, I want to go over what we have so far,” I said. “Beckey has a warehouse where she is importing dolls filled with pure cocaine from Bolivia.   These dolls are not going through customs and are being delivered in small packages and probably to different locations.   We don’t know how the money is being transferred but it’s probably cash all the way, and likely being transferred to the ship at the same time the dolls are picked up.” “Alan has gone to...

The Beckwith Affair Chap 1

August 3 rd , 10:05 a.m. “Robert Eyestone, private investigations, this is Maggie, how can I help you?” “Is Mr. Eyestone in?” the voice on the phone asked. “He is not in at the moment, can I get your name and number and have him call you?” asked Maggie. “Please, this is Mrs. Beckwith, of Beckwith Importers.   My number is 310-555-7600.” “He will call you as soon as he is able.   Thank you Mrs. Beckwith.”   “Hello, is this Mr. Eyestone?” asked Mrs. Beckwith. “Yes it is, how did you know it...

The Beckwith Affair Chap 5

Alan picked up the phone and called the front desk and told them he was checking out and asked if they could send someone up right away with the bill. He began throwing his things together almost frantically, his mind racing as he packed. “If they don’t know I’m on to them they won’t be expecting me to leave right away,” he thought. His plan was to pay cash when the bill was brought up and avoid the lobby when leaving the hotel.   Then he remembered Savanna.   He ran to the door, opened it...

The Beckwith Affair Chap 3

I went back to the office to find out what Maggie had for me.   I needed more pieces to the puzzle and without going to Mexico to talk to Alan, Maggie was all I had at the moment. It was not yet 5:00 and Maggie was still at her desk typing into the computer.   Without looking up she handed me a folder. “The list of properties you asked for,” she said. I took the file into my office and began to look it over.   I discovered that the condo that Alan lived in was owned by Beckwith Importers.  ...

The Beckwith Affair Chap 2

August 5 th , 8:20 a.m. I went into the office early the next morning, anxious to get to work on the Beckwith case.   As I entered the office I found Maggie at her desk.   “Maggie, I need you to do your thing for me,” I said.   “Alan Jankowski, we need to find him.   Check for arrests, the morgue, hospitals, etc.   Check planes, buses, trains, cruise ships, even rental car agencies.   I suspect he is not dead but don’t leave any stone uncovered. I’m going to be out most of the day checking...

CaughtWith MyPants Down

When they walked in the unlocked door, I froze like a deer caught in headlights. Although Carol was my girlfriend and we had great sex, I still enjoyed my closet dressing. Well one afternoon when no one was around, I took a bubble bath and pampered myself. Then I dressed entirely in Carol’s lingerie and sexiest short skirt. I was feeling sexy when in through the unlocked front door, Carol and her sister walked in, I couldn’t say or move a muscle. Carol and her sister just casually...

Football Saturdaywith Anna Missy

I met Missy when we were paired up to study my nursing class and we immediately became friends. On Fridays some of the class would meet up for happy hour and she brought along her room mate Anna. They are both beautiful, dark haired girls with perfect athletic bodies that I envied, as I am more on the thin side. We would always have fun as we got to know each but when my boyfriend and his friends would arrive they would leave soon after. I was telling Missy one afternoon that a couple of BF's...

My first timewith Mrs Jensen

Growing up in the neighborhood we all had a thing for Mrs. Jansen. Besides the fact that she was unbelievably sweet, she was also drop dead gorgeous. I would often find myself staring at her sunbathe in the afternoon and would often fantasize about her before I go to bed. With Mr Jansen working many hours I would always offer to help Mrs Jansen with some things around the house like carry heavy boxes, rake the yard, and move her furniture around. During my junior year, I was eager to go to the...
