light on it through Kim's reaction. While there is truth in this, it is

Kim arrived early on Wednesday. She wanted to get to her desk before
anyone had a chance to be offended or start behaving strangely around
her. Her idea was to just find all those little tasks that always get
avoided and wrap them up - at least the ones she could do without
interacting with anyone else.
She was tired. The emotional stress of working en femme, and the
behavior of her coworkers was wearing her down. It wasn't just the two
people who were overtly hostile. In some ways they were easier to deal
with - you just realized they were jerks and make a plan on how to deal
with them. It was also the subtle odd looks from those people who didn't
say anything, who left you guessing on what they thought, that wore her
down. Thank goodness for Leah and Jane! They were always friendly and
supportive. Kim never had to guess if they supported her or not. Add to
all of that the stress of remembering the past she had been denied, and
Kim was surprised she hadn't just given up at this point.
She got settled at her desk and checked her calendar. Right on top were
her Safety Coordinator tasks. As part of her duties she had volunteered
to be the site safety coordinator for a year. The only real duty was to
inspect the fire extinguishers once a month, and lead any fire drills
conducted by management. All the tasks that needed continuity of a
single point of contact were handled by someone in management.
Her calendar was telling her she had not done the fire extinguisher
inspections yet for January. She liked to get it out of the way around
the first of the month, and she was still more or less alone at the
office, so she grabbed her clipboard and started off.
Inspecting fire extinguishers was as much a social event as a safety
process, and force of habit must have kicked in, because as more people
came in to the office and saw Kim doing the inspections, they became
their old chatty selves. There were a few people who avoided her, but
she was starting to relax. She remembered to use her feminine voice, and
was getting pretty good at it. Well, at least she thought it was
working! The positive reactions were great, and inspecting the fire
extinguishers was such a change of pace that it always put her in a good
mood.
The rest of the morning went well. She called Narya and let her know she
would be stopping by. She had to go home and get her journal so it might
be a little later before she arrived.
She had brought food that needed no refrigeration or heating, to avoid
the need for the cafeteria, so lunchtime found her at her desk eating her
PB&J and drinking a seltzer. Leah stopped by out of the blue, walked up
to her and handed her an envelope.
"What's this?" inquired Kim.
"Every Tuesday I have an Intern class at the college. It is to make sure
everything is going well and we aren't just used as brute labor. After
all, the co-op program is supposed to help the student as much as the
company. We also talk about corporate culture, good and bad, and unusual
circumstances like your practice for the charity event this week. My
professor and the other students were so impressed, we went down the
hallway and hit up professors, students, everyone. We even stopped by
the student union where the food court is. In all we collected almost
three hundred dollars in about an hour."
"Leah, that is wonderful! You are an extraordinary young woman." As Kim
is listening to all of this she starts to tear up and Leah opens her arms
and gives Kim a big hug.
"Hey, next Tuesday night, would you consider coming to my co-op class?"
"I would be happy to!" Kim smiled. This was turning out to be a great
day.
Leah looked a little embarrassed "I don't know quite how to ask this, but
I know the event will be over and you won't need any more practice, but
if Kim could make an appearance, she would be warmly welcomed! And I
think most of the other students won't believe how good you look. Some
won't believe your plumbing and clothing don't match!"
Kim couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had not yet thought much
about what would happen next week, after the event was history. Would
she welcome going back to being Ken? Kendra certainly wasn't thrilled
about the prospect of never dressing again in her dreams or memories,
whatever they were. "Wow, I hadn't really though past Saturday, but
anyone who donates that much can have whatever they want. If you want
Kim, she will be there!"
"Great! We start with dinner at the campus cafeteria right at 5:30, and
that's probably the best opportunity for you, so is it a date?" Leah
gave her a comical wink, and Kim collapsed into laughter.
"It's a date!"
After Leah left, Kim noticed her voice message light is on. She picked
up the phone and hears Dan's voice. Immediately she goes cold, though as
she listens, the message sounds reassuring.
"Kim, sorry about yesterday, it was not a good day. I think there's an
extinguisher you missed. It's kind of hard to describe where it is so
how about we meet near the bathrooms at 5:20 I'm sorry I can't do it any
sooner, but I'm caught up the rest of the day."
Kim is wary; after all, he said some awful things to her. She knows that
the safety culture is very important to management. She doesn't think
anyone would use safety as an excuse to be mean. By this time, she is
totally confused and doubts everything. I was wrong about Connie last
night, she thinks, and maybe Dan was just having a bad day. She decides
to meet him. The bathrooms are centrally located, so it is an area more
people are seen, surely he wouldn't say anything mean there.
She completes the inspection report but leaves it unsent in her email
since there may be one she missed. At 5:00 she uses the bathroom and
after exiting waits for Dan. The appointed time comes and goes. She is
still waiting until just after 5:30.
When Dan shows up, he apologizes for being late and seems very pleasant.
He asks her to follow him to where this rogue extinguisher was. He leads
her towards a storeroom in an out of the way corner of the office few
people go. Kim is trying to remember the extinguishers in this area, and
if she missed one. She doesn't think she did, but maybe there's one she
doesn't know about. They reach a corner near two storage closets with an
extinguisher in the corner. She sees that it is in fact one of the units
she inspected that day. Frustrated by the delay in getting to see Narya,
Kim just wants to wrap up this exercise in stupidity and go home. "I
have checked this one - see, here are my initials on the tag." She grabs
the tag to be sure today's date is written on it, but before she can turn
to face him, Dan grabs her right arm just below the shoulder, puts his
arm behind her back, and slams her up against the corner. Dan is larger
and stronger than she is, and has the advantage of surprise. Kim can't
move.
"What are you doing?" Kim whispers. She is winded by the blow, and a
whisper is all she can manage. The full implication of what is happening
has not yet dawned on her.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to kiss you or anything. That's your
perversion, not mine." Dan's voice is filled with hatred. "I'm not the
one dressed like a sissy here." Kim starts to talk, and Dan covers her
mouth with his other hand. "I wouldn't do that if I were you" he says as
he pushes harder into her, both the force of his weight against her body
and the hand over her mouth making it hard to breathe. Kim's mind is in
a tailspin. She has no idea what he is planning, and she knows he is
stronger than she is. "So you do boys now? Do you like that better?
Have you dropped to your knees and sucked anyone's cock today? That's
really what this week is all about, right, getting in practice so you can
suck your way to the top, because no one would use a faggot slut like you
any other way. Is that what this is? Does Frank like little sissy
faggots like you?"
Kim can't comprehend the hate that is being thrust into her, both
verbally and physically. The words are as painful as if Dan was
physically stabbing her. The shame and humiliation overwhelm her and she
starts to cry, to sob uncontrollably. Dan pulls her off the corner,
twists around, and pushes her away from him in disgust and says, "Stop
that you sissy crybaby. I'm not done with you yet." He realizes he has
let go of her at the same time Kim realizes this. He is either reaching
to grab her again or winding up for a blow - she can't figure out which -
and it doesn't really matter.
Somehow, the amygdala instinct part of her brain kicks in and Kim knows
this may be her last chance, so without thinking she bolts. Running in
high heels - look it up on YouTube - there are some people who can do it.
Whether it is the practice she has from this week, wearing heels all day,
or just sheer instinct, she manages to escape his grasp and winds up in
the main office near the bathrooms. Thankfully one other employee is
still there just outside the men's restroom. Kim ducks inside the
women's restroom thinking Dan won't dare to follow her. Her clothes are
all in disarray, and she sees there are rips in her top where Dan held
her. Tears are streaming down her face from the pain and betrayal. She
has known Dan for years. Why does he hate me so much? What have I done
to him?
After a few minutes, she realizes Dan doesn't know where she is or won't
follow her, so she starts to calm down and clean herself up. Her makeup
is a disaster, so she decides to just wash it all off. After splashing
some water on her face, as she reaches for some soap, she looks up and
sees Carol in the mirror standing behind her.
"Oh poor little Kim," she says with a sneer. "What did you expect? Did
you think we would all just stand around and ooh and ahh as you strut
around like the slut you are? Do you really think you are safe in here?
Running away from your problems to the little girl's room? But you
aren't a little girl. You're a disgusting sissy faggot slut. Have you
been practicing other things this week too? Did you drop to your knees
for the boss to get him to agree to this bullshit, sissy?"
Kim had enough. It was one thing to take this from Dan when he had her
pinned against the wall, but she wasn't going to take it from this bitch.
"You won't talk to me like that, you..." And she turned to confront
Carol. But Carol knew this was coming. She had planned it all, and her
words were designed to get Kim to do exactly this. As she turned Carol
drove her fist hard into Kim's gut, knocking the air out of her and
causing her to double over. Then she grabbed Kim by the hair and pulled
her head up, and drove her knee into Kim's groin. Before Kim could
collapse, Carol stepped back and then brought her knee up again into
Kim's face, pulling her head down by the hair into the knee. Kim fell,
cracking her head on the tile floor.
"There. Now the little sissy got what he deserves." With that, Carol
left the room, turning out the lights. Kim saw her go, and it was almost
the same kind of dazed slow motion scene as from her dream. She wondered
why it took so long for Carol to leave as she lost consciousness.
