Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-One Spreading Her Broken Wings Year 1 A.S. Day 173 The sound of the washing machine rumbled through the kitchen. Jenny had just turned it on after loading it and walked into the dining room. She needed to sit down. The effort of loading the bedding had made her a little dizzy. She saw Derek at the table. He had his laptop open and was writing down some notes occasionally on a scrap piece of paper. He flipped between the open tabs and frowned before writing down a couple more notes and then looked up at her. He looked at her sweating face and asked her if she was okay. He told her that she looked a little flushed. She told him not to be concerned, she was just coming to sit down already. He watched her settle herself in the dining chair. He looked over at his notes and folded them and put them away. He asked her if she wanted something to drink. She nodded and thanked him for getting it. As he walked into the kitchen he looked it over as he often had since she started living with him. Before it was just another room to him. But now he couldn't look at it without feeling her influence on it and somehow that comforted him in a strange way. When his mom had been alive this had been her realm, even though she was kind of a lazy cook. When aunt Dina was alive she had him in here regularly but it was still never his. She had insisted that he know his way around to some degree but she had also mostly chased him out when she was on a roll. Now this was clearly Jenny's kitchen and unlike before it was also his as well. When she had taken this part of the house over, he hadn't really wanted to object. If fact it was kind of comforting to him having this be clearly hers, but after seeing her parents in there working together he found he liked seeing that kind of connection that they had together and wanted it for himself and Jenny as well. He opened up the cabinet and got her a tall glass and poured her some tea from the pitcher in the fridge. As he put the pitcher back in and closed the door, he mused that no one would ever call this a bachelor's kitchen again and he was pretty happy about that. When he put her glass down on the table she asked him what he was doing when she came in. He said that he was seeing if an idea that he had was possible and left it at that. They had a busy day so far. She had been loading the linens in the wash after he had stripped them off the beds. She had intercepted him as he was on his way to the laundry room in fact and told him that she would start it while he brought the rest in for her to throw in. He was still getting the hang of doing this kind of housework together though. He was too used to it just being him who was responsible for it. He had girlfriends in the past who had done housework that way. Mindy hadn't lived with him, but she was starting to be over regularly when the Shift ended that romance. She had been pretty egalitarian about chores as well, but he had also been fine with it when Vicki had insisted that it was her responsibility alone and he should stay out of her way. He hadn't stayed with Vicki long. She was one of those Church girls who had tried to cultivate a romantic relationship with him periodically since he had drifted away from their orbit. The only reason that he had even started dating her was she had used how upset that he had been by aunt Dina's death to worm her way into his life. At first he had just been on auto pilot and she had been good to him. She had listened and done things for him. She had been one of the few people he had known from his church visits to come to aunt Dina's funeral. And she had been constantly in his life in the weeks after. She had been the one to keep him fed the first couple of weeks when it was all he could do just to go through the motions. She had just shown up with some saran wrapped plates at first, and later entire pans that she slipped into the refrigerator. Derek had been so out of it dealing with his loss, that by the time that he started to move through, it she was already caring for the house, feeding him and sharing his bed on a regular basis, but she refused to move in with him. She would not even suggest 'living in sin' although she had no problem with doing everything up until that threshold. He probably would have stayed with her, he realized after they broke up. He had been kind of lazy in his relationships before. He didn't cheat normally and at first he thought that was because he had objections to it. But after he and Vicki had parted he realized that it was more because he didn't want to fuck it up because it was too much trouble to start over. What had really broken them was her not so subtle hints and insistence on them being involved in the Church as a couple. He had gone along a few times and that was a mistake he realized. He had been honest with her about how the church ranked in importance to him, but she was determined to change that. Brother Paul interjecting himself in their relationship trying to get him to yield to her desire hadn't helped matters much either. The sad thing was that if you stripped away her religious focus and how it had grated on him, the truth was that they had gotten along extremely well. Surprisingly to Derek, he realized that in some ways Jenny and Vicki shared some characteristics and that was something that he never expected to recognize. He supposed that it came from her own feelings on the somewhat traditional nature of her family and how she was growing into how she would fill that role in her own life. If Vicki had been more subtle about the religion thing Derek may have overlooked it and ended up with her. She had also remained unshifted and after the Shift happened she had come by to ask if he was still himself. He had told her he was and spent a few weeks avoiding her until she got the message that this was not a sign from God that they should be together. What had really been a step too far was her increasingly openly hostile views about people like aunt Dina. She ended up opening her mouth one too many times about that and he had broken it off with her. Being with Mindy later had been a pure relief and until the Shift, Derek had begun to think that Mindy was the physical manifestation of dodging the bad relationship bullet. That was probably why they had been able to remain such good friends afterward. It was also probably why Mindy had zeroed in on Jenny as the right person for him when he was aware that Derek couldn't get her off of his mind. Somehow Mindy just seemed to recognize something in Jenny that would match what Vicki did for him without her baggage. And even though Jenny had a freight car of her own baggage, it was not the kind that set Derek's teeth on edge the way Vicki's did. Derek sat down and opened the laptop again. When the screen came up he laid out the folded paper with his notes on it and told Jenny that he was thinking of hiring a part-time person and wanted to see if he could squeeze it out of the budget. When she asked him why he was considering that he told her that after she had mentioned that both Dr. Min and Dr. Nakamura thought it best to reduce her time, he got to thinking about how things were going to have to change in the next couple of months and he realized that he couldn't spend as much time at Java Jolts and be there for her the way he needed to be. "Mindy had already stepped up in a big way," he said, "and Teddy had been wanting more hours as well, but I'm thinking that a part-timer would balance it out better while I'm helping you after the kids are here." Jenny sat watching him as he laid out what it was that he wanted to do and why. She really didn't know how she should respond to what he was talking about doing. She did know that hearing him making plans like this definitely touched a deep part of herself that he would even consider it in this fashion. She had wanted to be with him like this since she had recognized just what it was that their relationship had become. She didn't need to be pushed in any way when it came to being with him the way they were now. But even with her feelings about him; feelings that she knew he shared and reciprocated. She still hadn't expected that after the kids were born that she would be staying here for longer than necessary. Even though they both were quickly comfortable and settled with the idea of what they had become, she more than half expected that when she had the twins outside of her that she and Derek would back off a little and continue their relationship from separate homes. Her living here was driven more by necessity and she kind of figured that even with how they had clicked once she was here that they would both step back then. But listening to him detail what he was looking at doing and how he was going to make it happen she realized that was never going to happen. It didn't matter that necessity had dictated that they push themselves along a little quicker in their relationship; they were here now. And thinking that they could back water just because the necessity had passed just wasn't going to happen. She really didn't want to do that anyway and hearing from him that he wasn't even thinking about it made her love him even more for it. Jenny finished her tea and he asked her if she would like another. She said she really would and he started to go into the kitchen to get her a refill. As he did that he laughed inwardly thinking about how he was doing the same thing for her now that she was his girlfriend that he did for her when she was a customer. He heard a knock on the front door and Jenny called to him that she would get it. He called back okay and started to carry their glasses back into the dining alcove. He looked up in the direction of the door when he walked into the room. Jenny was slowly coming back from the short hallway and she had Madeline and Brother Paul following close behind her. Derek exhaled a little sharply but didn't say anything. What it was that she saw in Madeline was completely beyond his understanding. Although he had to say that since the Shift, she had behaved in a much more restrained manner. The Madeline he had known when he was younger was not very much like this one. He wondered idly who she had shifted with that had made her slightly more tolerable to be around. That Brother Paul was with her was not surprising to Derek either. He had always known that they were married, but now that he thought about it, he wondered if Jenny knew that. He decided that he would ask her if she did later. Derek greeted them both as politely as he could even though the last people he wanted to see on a Saturday were these two. He was also pretty sure about what it was that they were here for as well. Now that they had a foothold in their lives because of being nice to Jenny while he had to be away, they were going to be trying to get the both of them to start coming to services. He'd seen them use this method of guilt trip to con others into stepping into their walls before and he wasn't looking forward to the game of verbal racquetball he'd be playing with the two of them today. Jenny asked them if they would like to join her and Derek for lunch while they were here. Of course Madeline quickly accepted and Jenny asked if what she was planning to make would be all right. Madeline and Brother Paul were both very amenable and Madeline waved Derek back in his chair when he started to get up to give Jenny a hand. She was very firm in telling him that she would give Jenny all the help that she needed in the kitchen. Derek settled back into the chair and braced himself for having to deal with Brother Paul while the two women were out of the room. The washing machine finished it's cycle with a loud buzzing and Jenny called to him to ask him if he would hang everything out on the line while she and Madeline were busy in the kitchen. He hollered back that he would be happy to. He excused himself to Brother Paul and got up to start piling the laundry in the basket. Brother Paul watched Derek go into the laundry room and start putting the sheets and other bedding into the basket. He put the next load into the wash and started it. Brother Paul quietly stood up and walked to the entranceway to the kitchen and beckoned Madeline over to him. When she came over he quietly suggested that Madeline have a word with Jenny about this while he spoke with Derek outside. She nodded to him and went over to the mud woman and waited for her to finish her work before suggesting to her that it was time for her to take her vitamins. Brother Paul left them and followed Derek outside. He had no intention of using the Water of Truth on him right now, even if Derek's willing participation in women's work did disgust him. That was something that he would correct in Derek later. It would be enough now for Madeline to make the proper adjustments to Derek's mud woman while he kept him away until it was done. Madeline watched Brother Paul follow Derek outside where he was already hanging sheets on the clothesline. "Perhaps you should take a minute to take your pre-natal vitamins now Jenny," she said to her. Jenny put down the knife that she had been using and thanked Madeline for reminding her. She left the kitchen and walked down the hall to the bathroom and returned, pill in hand, a few minutes later. Madeline handed her a glass of water and watched her drink it down. She kept her busy while she waited for it to take effect. As she did so, she inwardly approved of how Jenny handled herself in the kitchen. She clearly knew what she was doing there and in Madeline's opinion that would help make her an excellent wife for Derek once she had accepted the Lord's truth into her heart. Madeline watched Derek while he was hanging out the linens. She knew that before the Rapture she probably would have approved of him doing that. But since then, she recognized that it was one of those false narratives that the old world had used to sap and dilute the order that the Lord had instituted for his creations. Brother Paul would help him see the light she was sure. He was strong with the righteousness that the Lord had filled his servants with since He had begun the tribulation. Jenny had been making a vegetable soup while the men had gone outside. Madeline had asked her if she wanted her to help her, but the petite pregnant woman had waved her off saying that she could do it more quickly this way. She knew what she was doing, Madeline thought again. Jenny had quickly reduced the pile of washed vegetables to small cubes and chunks and slid them into the broth to cook. She asked Madeline to get the beef out of the refrigerator and then she just as quickly cubed it and added seasonings before putting the lid on the pot to let it simmer. Jenny started slicing some Italian bread from a fresh loaf and handed the pieces to Madeline to butter before putting them onto a baking sheet. She watched Jenny sprinkle garlic salt and herbs over the butter before setting the tray aside for now. While Madeline cut more vegetables for a salad she watched as Jenny began mixing more herbs with oil and vinegar for a dressing. Just as she finished she closed the jar and started shaking it to blend it together. She didn't stop. Madeline watched her as she slowly kept shaking the small bottle. Her eyes were a little distant and the motion was steady like a piston never varying in its repetition. "Jenny, I think its mixed enough. You should put it down now," she said. Jenny put the small bottle down on the counter and stood there silently. Madeline asked her what they should do to finish preparing lunch and Jenny told her that they just needed to put the garlic toast into the oven and bake it for about ten minutes just before the soup was finished. Madeline suggested to her that she go into the dining room and sit down while she took care of it. She watched the woman walk silently into the next room, pull one of the chairs away from the table and sit in it. Madeline looked over the soup that Jenny had made and dropped the temperature a little and set the oven timer for the toast. After she put the salad back into the fridge for later she walked into the dining room to sit with the enthralled woman. "I'm glad to see that you are taking your vitamins, Jenny. It's so important that you do that for your babies," she started. "I want to be a responsible mother," Jenny replied. "And I know you will be," Madeline said. "You are so very attentive to your children and I'm sure that once they are here you will be even more devoted to them. You look like a wonderful cook, I'm sure that when they are older they will appreciate that about their mother very much," she continued. "I love to cook," she said, "my mother taught all of us to enjoy making good food." "Your mother was a good woman," Madeline said. "A daughter should follow her mother's example when it is a good one. I'm sure that you want to be like her when your babies come." "I'm trying to," she said distantly. "But you still have to be your own woman too," she said. "Of course." "And I must say that I haven't visited Derek's home often, but there is such a difference in it since you have started living here. I'm sure you will be a good wife too." "I want to be a good wife," Jenny said. "I know you do, Jenny," she said. "But you're not his wife right now are you? Not really," she pointed out. "No, we're not married," she said. "But you want to be." "Yes." "Then you know you really shouldn't tell anyone that you think of yourself as his wife right now. You take care of the house, you cook and you share his bed but that doesn't make you his wife just because you're living in sin." "I don't like that phrase," she said sounding like she was forcing her way out of the trance. "I've never liked it. It makes something that isn't that way sound cheap." Madeline handed her another pill and some water. She should have expected resistance with this topic. Worldly people were just so separated from the Lord's view on the matter. "But you're not married though." "No, not legally," she said settling down. "But you really should be though, eventually I mean. I think that you and Derek should be together as husband and wife. You just seem to work so well together." "I'm glad to hear that you think so Madeline," she answered. "Maybe you could show him how serious that you are about becoming his wife?" she suggested. "How could I do that?" she asked. "Well you could show him how good it would be for you to be his wife," Madeline said. "I can see that it's probably you that is responsible for the change here, men just don't clean the same way women do." "You've never been in a barracks before a white glove inspection have you," Jenny stated to her in a monotone. Madeline realized that she had hit another mental wall and decided that she should go much simpler. "You should really be the one caring for the house. Derek works really hard and you don't really have that much work outside of the house do you? After all it would only be fair. He shouldn't have to work all day and then come home and work while you're here like this should he?" she said. "No," she said, "That wouldn't be fair, I've never believed that either. If you're not working you should care for the house." "Then if you really want to be his wife you should probably insist that he not do your job. After all, how can he see just how much he needs you for his wife if he's still doing these things himself? And after you and he are married you can let him do some things for you then can't you?" she said. "I suppose so," she answered. Madeline looked closely at Jenny's eyes, her pupils had dilated so widely from the double dose that it almost appeared that her eyes had become black. "Maybe your should just listen for now Jenny," Madeline said glancing through the window at Brother Paul speaking with Derek outside. Neither of the men showed any inclination to come back in for now. "Ok," she said. "I'll listen." "You need to do what is needed to be done in the home from now on, not Derek. You want to be the wife and it's the wife's job to take care of these things, not his. Cooking, cleaning and caring for the home is what the woman of the house should do. You should not bother the man of the house with women's work again. It's your responsibility as a woman, not his." "You are not his wife yet, but you need to do this to show him that that is what you should be. But you don't deserve to call yourself his wife while you live in sin. You haven't earned that privilege yet. Maybe if you show him that you can do this the proper way he will see that he should do the right thing and he will see that he should make you his wife soon." "For now you should think about what being a proper traditional wifely candidate is. And you should think about what you should do to be one. You should think about how you should never bother a man with your responsibilities again from now on. Think about how if you show him that this is what you want to be and that you can do it properly, the way a woman should, than he might understand that he should make an honest woman of you someday very soon." "You think about that Jenny," she said, "I'll make sure that lunch is ready for our men while you do." Madeline had Jenny follow her into the kitchen and sit on a stool near the counter. She kept an eye on both the food and Jenny. When her pupils began to contract, she directed her to take the dishes out and make sure that the men's places were prepared to reflect their proper place with Derek at the head of the table and Brother Paul at his right hand with women's places at the foot of the table. When she saw her start to leave the trance state she asked her to rest while she went out and let the men know that their food would be done soon. Madeline made sure that when she came up behind Brother Paul that she waited respectfully silent for him to acknowledge her and give her leave to speak. She quietly told him that they would be ready to serve lunch in five minutes and that the two men could come any time after then when they were ready. Brother Paul dismissed her and went back to speaking with Derek. Madeline saw the hint of a scowl ghost across Derek's face and she forgave him for not knowing Godly ways as well as he should have. After they finished eating Madeline was gratified at how Jenny insisted that Derek not do anything to clear up. It was so amazing to her how quickly the Lord's light showed people like her the way now. Jenny told him that she had Madeline here and that he and Brother Paul should go relax while the women took care of this. Madeline noticed Brother Paul's faint smile of approval at Jenny's improved behavior and attitude. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Her Black Wings

I was walking around the city, looking for something to do, some way to have a good time, it’s a big city, its huge, surely there is something to do. I must have been walking for 2 or 3 hours before I came across a small antique shop, I don’t usually enjoy antiques but there was something in the window that caught my eye. It was a paint, magnificent; I was a large painting of a woman tall and beautiful, pale white skin and dark eyes, her beauty was surreal. He lips were pout and her...

Chicken Wings

I took a job as a regional property manager in a rather large property management company in Dallas, Texas managing several multi-family residential properties in the area. I loved the job because all I really had to do was make sure we had a good handle on the management of each property for the property owners- some of which were real-estate investment trusts (REITs) or individual owners. One of the properties I managed was owned by a very wealthy business conglomerate from Hong Kong. Once a...

Gallaghers IslandChapter 4 Gallagher Meets the Female HeadHunters

After they had the huts finished, the water supply taken care of and even finding they had plenty of food with the coconuts and the bananas, the fishing was good and Mr. Candleford even managed to trap a wild pig in a pit trap that worked perfectly. The only hard part was to get the carcass out and get it prepared for eating and then to smoke and keep the remaining meat safe for future use. In a sense, it was good that they were there on the island because the things would have started to...

Wish Shift A Woman Named Amy

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Three A Woman Named Amy Year 1 A.S. Day 170 Amy had a busy day. They had left the camp earlier this morning and gotten on the road to go home. The other ladies there had gathered around her before they left, to pray the Lord strengthen her and her husband, as they ventured out into the world of the tribulation. It would not truly be safe for the Lord's people yet, but it had to be done. While she and her sisters in faith prayed, Joshua had gathered with...

Wish Shift To See Beneath The Skin

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty To See Beneath The Skin Year 1 A.S. Day 169 Dr. Nakamura leaned over J.L. helping him slowly move forward a step. "That's it," she said encouraging him. "Just take a slow step, you can do it J.L." Jenny was across from him sitting in a chair on the other side of the exercise room that they had set up to work with their charges. She was making come to me motions with her hands and calling for J.L. to reach her. J.L.'s tongue moved in his mouth and he...

Wish Shift Zai Jian

Wish Shift: Chapter Eleven Zai Jian Year 1 A.S. Day 58 Night Jenny sat in her room. She had taken all of the clothing that she would not be wearing anymore and piled it on the bed. She reached for the first empty box and started to fold pants and t-shirts and carefully put them away. It was quiet now. Mom and grandma had already gone out the pop-up to go to sleep. She was by herself now, there was only the light in the room and the darkness outside her window to keep her...

Wish Shift Armistice

Wish Shift: Chapter Three Armistice Year 1 A.S. Day 38 Jenny didn't know how long she was leaning against mom crying. Mom just let her lean against him until her tears stopped. "It was your grandmother who pointed it out to me," he said after Jenny's tears ceased and she calmed down again. "She said to me a couple of days ago that you were acting just like a couple friends of hers had after their husbands died. She said that they tried to freeze as much of their life as...

Wish Shift Crossing the Rubicon

Wish Shift: Chapter Nineteen Crossing the Rubicon Year 1 A.S. Day 103 Bob's was a little bit busy this morning for a Thursday. Derek had picked Jenny up at her house at the regular time for her appointment, but they still had more than an hour or so to kill when they walked into the restaurant. Bob waved to Jenny and Derek as they came in the door, but he didn't come over. There were too many people cycling through the place at the moment. Jenny was pretty sure that if he got a...

Wish Shift Pathways

Wish Shift: Chapter Eight Pathways Year 1 A.S. Day 46 Jenny heard the car pull into her lot in the dim glow of light just before dawn. She had been up until almost midnight the night before and had needed to rush to the toilet sometime in the early morning hours to deal with a bout of morning sickness. Those had been coming less frequently this last week and she was starting to hope that she may be close to parting ways with this particular aspect of being a woman soon. Leaning...

Wish Shift Adjustments

Wish Shift: Adjustments 1 A.S. Day 147 When Derek got out of the shower, he was still half in amazement at Jenny. He toweled himself dry and wrapped the damp towel around himself. He figured he might as well make the bed after he put some clothes on. He really wanted to do something nice for Jenny today, but right now he couldn't think of what it should be. He found himself thinking about what she had told him about Sonya and that brought him back to last night and what she said to...

Wish Shift Tabula Rasa

Wish Shift : Chapter Ten Tabula Rasa Year 1 A.S. Day 56 Before they went to Dr. Waverly's, Kira and Dianne took her to get a couple of new sets of clothes. Jenny had already apologized to them for being angry with how they reacted to her risking herself and the twins, but there were still some dark feelings swimming around them. She was still out of sorts herself as well. She was wearing the last of her inherited bras and in the last couple of days it had been much too tight for...

Wish shift: Chapter Six Template Year 1 A.S. Day 45 Danny had just finished sliding the last of the cubed potatoes off of the cutting board into the pot of boiling water. She glanced across the kitchen at Sam. She was slicing tomatoes and laying them out on the split loaf of Italian bread over the lettuce. Danny reached for an onion and started dicing it. Danny was more than a little proud of Sam the last couple of weeks. Jenny coming home had been a good influence on her in some...

Wish Shift Revelations

Wish Shift: Chapter Twelve Revelations Year 1 A.S. Day 65 Sam looked around the outside dining area at Java Jolts. "You know I don't usually go to places like this," she said. The outside area was pretty simple, just some small white painted metal tables with some white wicker chairs around them. The tables were pulled up close to the plate glass of the front window and on the edge of the sidewalk there were some planters with greenery spilling over the concrete sides. "I know,"...

Wish Shift Two By Moonlight

Wish Shift: Chapter Eighteen Two By Moonlight Year 1 A.S. Day 92 Jenny slowed the truck down and stopped. The little ticket booth at the gate had peeling white paint on its wooden walls and there were a few scattered weeds growing at the base of the small building. Jenny leaned out of the window slightly and handed over the twenty-five dollar admission to the sixty year old man who was bouncing up and down to whatever was on his I phone between cars. He took her money and she...

Wish Shift The Fire That Burns You

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Nine The Fire That Burns You Year 1 A.S. Day 209 Day 254 of Jenny's pregnancy Sleep was constantly avoiding coming to her. Between her now frequent trips to the bathroom, the movement of the twins and the pain from the various parts of her body, it was a wonder that she got any sleep at all. And that was before she even factored in the emotional toll of the last few days. The rage that had been released when the full scope of what had been done to...

Wish Shift Reunion

Part One The Winter of her Heart Wish Shift: Chapter One Reunions 1 A.S. Day 32 She was still trying to sleep. It wasn't her first international trip. The problem was, even with all of the shades down on the windows, you could still see the outline of daylight around them. This made it difficult for her to get relaxed even in ordinary circumstances. Her only consolation this trip was that, for once, the seat was roomy enough. But considering what made that extra room...

Sometime after four p.m., when Kira and Jenny were lighting the charcoal in the small portable grill, Kira's phone started ringing. While Jenny busied herself with using the hand cranked fan to get the coal bed well fired, Kira answered it and started laying out the directions to where they were. After they finished talking Kira told Jenny that...

Flying without wings

A smile appears on Anna’s face when I ask her about last night.“It was great, that’s all I can say about it.”I’m not satisfied with that answer. “Come on tell me more about it!”Her eyes start to twinkle. “It was just so romantic, candles everywhere, red wine and red roses, it was like a movie.” I’m glad Anna finally found herself a boyfriend, she has been betrayed in the past and she deserves a sweet boy. I smile at her. “I’m glad you enjoyed it.”She stands next to me and looks at me in the...

Butterfly Wings

BUTTERFLY WINGS By Tcheena3 CHAPTER ONE ?- Metamorphosis, Wings Begin to Flutter They say that the sweep of a butterfly?s wings in the Amazon rainforest can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world.Sounds great, but it?s a ridiculous premise, really, when you get right down to it. Oh, yes, I?m sure we all understand cause and effect. But to suggest that such a small action could spiral into such a huge reaction in such a comparatively short distance seems absurd. At least, that?s...

Wish Shift Intake

Wish Shift: Chapter Fifteen Intake Year 1 A.S. Day 86 Brother Paul sat in the comfortable leather chair in his office. He had striven for the impression of a manager's office rather than something more exalted like the head of a corporation. He did have some sparse decoration, but...

Wish Shift: Chapter Twenty Seven The Things That Bind You Year 1 A.S. Day 157 Jenny looked up when Derek opened the front door. Wish Shift Deflection

Wish Shift: Chapter Two Deflection Year 1 A.S. Day 32 No one laughed when Kira said that to her. Not that it wasn't just like something she would say and that it wasn't amusing in its own way. Jenny was mostly sure it was because none of them really knew what to say. Like her mom had said to her in the restroom, it was just something that he never expected to hear from her son, even if her son was now her daughter. She supposed that it also brought home to her sister Kira and...

Broken Wings

My father was a great man until Mom passed away. My mother died of cancer when I was six, my mother’s death was hard on my father, he always felt that her death was some how his fault. My bedroom is quite small, the wallpaper is peeling down the walls leaving behind a lightly sticky yellow-orange residue. My older sister and I share a queen bed with superman sheets. Sitting on my bed I see my sister, writing away at her journal at the rickety desk that dad had made for us three years ago. My...

The Great Shift Togetherness

The Great Shift: Togetherness By Ran Dandel It was always good to close the agency in the evening and start to unwind. Most days weren't too bad, but this one was a doozy. Since deregulation, the airlines had gone to central hubbing of their flights. It made making itineraries quite a hassle. Especially since many of the feeders arrived very close to the departure times of the main airlines'. Of course, being a travel agent wasn't all bad. After all, if you were able to make...

Wish Shift And the Fruit it Bears

Wish Shift: And The Fruit It Bears 1 A.S. Day 146 Jenny looked at her face in the small mirror on the counter. She ran a quick check on what she saw reflected there. The lessons she had been getting from mom when he came down to visit and all the practice she had recently was starting to really pay off. Blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, all of it looked just exactly the way she wanted it to look. Her hair on the longer side she had used a curling iron on, to make it...
