Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Seven When Shadows Burn Year 1 A.S. Day 192 Day 237 of Jenny's pregnancy Brother Paul kept driving past Derek's home. Derek's jeep was there parked under the carport, but it was the other car there that made him abandon stopping in as an option. He fumed as he drove down the road. Who could that possibly be that was there? And why were they here now of all times? He sensed the hand of the devil in this and considered that he might have to call Brother Judas and have him send some of his acolytes to assist him in this. That might be necessary, but it may also be overkill as well. And something that they were not really ready to deal with if they should be exposed prematurely. That had nearly happened already. Some of those who were under the control of the church and had been used in a set of failed attempts to spread the Lord's truth to those who would have been useful in aiding them had nearly exposed them. At least one of them had not returned and the others had been kept incognito in the camps since them. It had not seemed to have had any ill effect at the time and it had impressed on them the need to move slowly. It had been a bad decision, even if those first attempts had not been sanctioned. But now as he parked his car some distance away and watched Derek's house across an open field, he had some doubt that was what the outcome had been. Was it possible that they had not been overlooked? Were they just being allowed to do what they had done for some other purpose? Having others here at this exact moment argued that the devil was moving against them even now. Brother Paul took a couple of deep breaths to calm his fears. It was probably nothing he told himself and if it was, the Lord was with him. Someone had come by for some reason or another and they would leave when they had finished their visit. They would not stay long and once they were gone Brother Paul would go there and do what needed to be done. And if they didn't leave, Brother Judas's acolytes could still be called in and all of them could be obtained tonight. They could make room in the camps for a couple more believers, if need be. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Derek sat at the small kitchen table with Danny and Agent Matthews. Jenny was still in the living room where she had been after Danny had given her a glass of water to drink. Derek saw her looking through the open entrance at them while she lay there on the couch. He was shocked to find out that the black woman with Danny was Vicki's brother Brandon Matthews. Not because she was now a black woman, but because she was even here at all. Brandon was one of those friends that had left the church's orbit before he had. Unlike her sister she had not looked at being made over in their foul image as a viable outcome and if it meant that she would take flak from her family over her 'apostasy' so be it. Derek knew that Brandon had gotten a job working for the government, but he didn't know that she was an FBI agent. Brandy as she had told him to call her now, had been stationed in the field office in Atlanta when the Shift happened. She had found herself in her new body just as the majority of others had, but in her case she found herself over four hundred miles from Atlanta in an instant. Listening to her, Derek found himself comparing his situation once again to theirs and once again finding himself lacking. With each new story he heard about how others had reacted to the hand they were dealt by the Great Shift he felt more inadequate in his own experience. She told him that she was part of an investigation into the activities of the Church of the Blessed and that she could tell him very little, but Derek still demanded some sort of answer from the two of them. That was his Jenny in there and he was damned if he was going to sit in ignorance while they had obviously been engineering something against them both. "So what the hell is going on?" he asked Danny. Danny started by telling him what had happened with Kim and Jake. When he started describing the kind of woman that Amy was now, he saw Derek's eyes narrow in anger. "That's exactly what those bastards think a woman should be," he said. "But that's even worse that the girls that grow up listening to their shit are by a long shot. Even when they get raised with the truckload of garbage that they stuff into their minds growing up, none of them would have stood for even half of what you're telling me she said or did." He nodded in the direction of the back yard. "Out there in the back, just behind those big bushes is a small shed just like the one you're talking about. My father built it and set it up and then tried to tell my mom that she needed to do that shit. That was one of the only times that I can remember that she stood up to him and told him to get stuffed. She just wasn't having it, she told him that doing anything like that was just silly and out of the question." "Every time they tried to go too far, something like that happened," Brandy said agreeing with Derek. But even with the pushing back that they get from going too far, there was still a lot that they got away with. My parents had that woman's table nonsense and my mom and sisters did put up with it. I thought it was the most stupid and anti-family thing I'd ever seen, even when I was little. If they tried to make me do it after shifting into a woman now I'd feed them their teeth." "But that wasn't the worst of it," Danny continued. "The worst of it, at least for Amy was how empty she was when she wasn't acting like that paper doll they made her into. It was like they burned everything inside her that made her a person out of her and all that was left was that mockery of a woman." "Not from their point of view," Derek snarled. "Even if they couldn't force women into being that before the Shift, they sure did their damnedest to get them as close as they could to it. That's why I kept away from them when the girls from the church would come after me. If Vicki hadn't caught me the way I was after Aunt Dina's funeral, I would have blown her off then." He looked over to Brandy. "No offense Bran," he said. "Why would I be offended by that?" Brandy said. "You did the right thing. And remember, she did try to slip that shit to me as well. If you had still been with her, she would have slipped it to you instead." As bad as what they had done to Amy was, what they had done to Kim was even worse in Danny's opinion. He told Derek about how Joshua, since that was who he said he was now, had become worse in his outlook than anything Jake had said or done on her most batshit crazy day. It was worse because he was doing this with what control over himself he had left and he was not torn up with dealing with what Jake had been dealing with. Danny said it was like they erased every scrap of understanding of what it was like to be a woman from Kim's mind. And in its place was the iron plated fanatic that they had come to regret knowing. If he and Sam had not seen that example of what had happened while the both of them were under the influence of that drug, they wouldn't have had any idea of how such a thing was even possible in so short a time. They asked him how he had not seen the same thing happening here, right under his nose and Derek tried to tell them that he was leaving the choice of what kind of woman she was going to be up to her. He said that lately, what he had been seeing from her was starting to really bother him, but he wanted to leave it as her choice to hammer out what kind of woman that she was going to be now that they were together. And to tell the truth, he admitted, her doing those kinds of things the way she had been doing, was what he would have considered pretty normal. He was about to tell them how, even when Aunt Dina was alive that she had limited what he did around the house. She taught him how to do everything, but when it came down to it, he didn't do it all of the time or even all at once. Aunt Dina was just more comfortable doing those things herself, she told him and then gave him some other job to do outside. She may have put it that way, but Derek knew that it was really that she hated doing yard work with a flaming passion and would rather he did that most of the time. But he didn't get that far into that part of what he was going to say. Jenny interrupted him first. "I'll just bet you thought it was normal," she growled from the doorway. She had been listening to them the entire time while she was remembering every string of imposed beliefs that she had been compelled to speak. Only this time as they had spilled from her lips, she was hearing them for the first time while she had a clear head. As she listened to them talking, each time they discussed one of those things that Amy or Joshua was doing, she could feel an inner impetus from what had been grafted into her mind well up and compel her to agree that was what a woman should do. That was what a woman was and she was getting angrier and angrier at this violation of her being. It was the first time she had felt clear, pure anger in a long time and even as it licked through her mind like a wildfire, she felt the internal bonds they had tried to place on her telling her that a woman had no right to anger of this kind toward any man and especially, not toward her husband. Derek looked up to her. He thought she was still resting on the couch. "So you're going to sit there and play innocent are you?" she asked him. Her anger at what had been done to her and with what she knew about his involvement with Brother Paul made it burn even hotter. Sonya had been a firecracker when she was angry, Jenny was a hand grenade in the process of detonation. "You sat there at this table every day this week while I fed you like some kind of servant. I ate in the kitchen for almost every meal like a dog and you just sat there accepting it." "I worked like a slave on this house every day and you just accepted it without a word. Yes, I told you not to do anything, but that never stopped you from just going ahead and doing something anyway. You could have just done anything you wanted to when it came to that and made it stick, but you didn't. You didn't lift a finger. You just accepted it." "And you're the one that sent that bastard and his bitch over to my trailer in the first place. If I hadn't known that you knew him, I'd have never let him in the door the first time. You gave him full access to me, you served me up to him on a plate and let him do as he pleased with my mind." "I don't even know that anything you are saying is the truth. Everything I own has been locked up from the moment that you moved me here. Even if I could drive my truck you have it locked away in that goddamned garage. You've kept me here under your thumb ever since you got back from Asheville and you never said a word while I was your happy little prisoner. If you even went there that is. For all I know you're perfectly fine with your good buddy Brother Paul turning me into your little fucktoy maid." Jenny's voice was rising as she vented her anger. Danny could see how hard the verbal blows were striking Derek. He could see the hurt and anger rising in his own eyes and he could also see the force of will that he was using to keep from answering her in kind. He had to say something to her before she went too far. "Jenny, you're angry. And you have every right to be. But maybe you are being too hard on someone you love right now. Maybe you should back off a bit and come at this later?" Danny said slowly as calmly as he could, hoping it would rub off on her since it was coming from him. "I don't even know that he does," she said turning from the doorway and walking away. "Or that I even want to," she hollered at them. Brandy looked at Derek. "I don't think she means that man, not for real," she said to him. "I don't know her, but I do know how someone reacts when they're coming out of this shit and they tend to focus that anger on the most likely candidate when they do. If it makes you feel better what she just did was a good sign." There was a low knocking at the door. Brandy got up, unholstered her weapon and went to the door and looked through the peep hole. After she was satisfied she opened the door and spoke to who was there. She talked in low tones for a few moments and then closed the door and came back. "That's my backup," she said holstering her pistol. "When she said that they were supposed to go to the camp today, I called the field office and told them to dispatch a team here immediately. I told them that they should only send agents that I personally knew by sight. They're going to set up outside and maintain a perimeter while we're here." "Is that necessary?" Danny asked. He didn't expect that this trip down here would turn into something like this. "I think it is," Brandy said. "As organized as these people are, I wouldn't put it past them to run a snatch and grab when the initial acquisition failed. I also alerted the teams that are on your house and the one keeping your compromised family under surveillance." "I did let him in though," Derek said quietly. "I let him in and I didn't kick him out, even when I got back. I knew what a snake he was and I let him come here like he owned the place, because I didn't want to be an asshole. I didn't want to tell her who she could and couldn't talk to and I did this. My not being an asshole did this to her." "Is it true what she said about the truck?" Danny asked. "No, not like that. Yes, I locked it up. And I locked up the trailers too, but I also put the keys to all of the locks on her keychain as soon as it was done. I just forgot to tell her about it. You can look now, they're right there," he said pointing to her purse. Danny looked over at the man he had come to know sitting on the other side of the table. The whole way down here he had promised himself that, if that man had even one iota of involvement in what was going on with Jenny, he would tear out his throat, even if he had to use his own teeth to do it, if it was necessary to get Jenny safely away. Regardless of Jenny's accusations. From his reactions and from what Derek was saying, it rang true to him and he hoped that when Jenny's anger was spent that she would see that too. He reached over and put his hand over Derek's. "It's ok, son," he said "I believe you. And you have no idea how glad I am that I do," Danny withdrew his hand and reached for his phone. "I'm going to call Sam now and let him know what's going on. I think that we will be very in late getting back and she needs to know why." "Brother Paul's a petty, manipulative bastard," Brandy said. "He always was and this shit show is exactly what he lives for." "Not exactly," Danny said. "He didn't get them." "No," said Derek, "he didn't get me. And that's what he's always wanted." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Year 1 A.S., Day 193 Day 238 of Jenny's pregnancy Jenny didn't calm down easily. She remained in a fuming, smoldering rage the rest of the night. Danny went in and sat with her for a while. Occasionally, one of the twins would kick her and she would look down at her distended stomach. "Will you kids fucking quit it," she snarled at the infants moving inside of her. Before she gave up being around people for the night she was still angry, but it had ceased to be the blazing, white-hot fury that she had just let loose on Derek earlier. She told Danny that she was going to bed and that maybe she would speak with him in the morning. Once she was in the room with the door firmly closed behind her, Danny went to see Derek. He told him what she had said and advised him to not come near her until morning, if he valued keeping what made him a man physically attached to his body. Derek agreed and said that he would just sleep on the couch. It was comfy enough and it was as far away from her as he could get and still remain under the same roof. Danny told him that he thought that he didn't deserve anything that she had hit him with and Derek thanked him for giving him the benefit of the doubt. He showed Danny and Brandy the other bedrooms and suggested that they sleep there. Danny said that he was going to go in and sleep in the room with her. He didn't think that she needed to be alone and it would be safest if he were the one to stay in there right now. Brandy said she would be in the next room, so she would be close by, if someone got past the agents outside, should anything happen during the night. Brandy closed the door, leaving just a crack open and laid the shotgun and ballistic vest that the other agent had given her on the bed beside her within easy reach. This whole fucking situation reminded her too much of her last tour in Iraq. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning when Jenny emerged from their room she was obviously still angry with him, but he couldn't tell if it was anger because he was an available target or if she had decided that she still blamed him after all. He waited for her to say something to him, but she didn't utter a single word. Brandy said this was a good sign, but Derek was wondering if their relationship could stand it or if it would even survive. That was what had kept him up more last night than anything else had. He had his own fury at Brother Paul and at Madeline, but after that sputtered out for the time being, what plagued him was the very real thought that Jenny could decide when she woke up to walk out the door the next morning and he would never see her again. It was a very long night for him and the uncertainty stretched the hours even more. She had gone to the bathroom first and come out and demanded to know where those fucking pills were. Danny told her calmly that Agent Matthews had collected all that remained of them and sent them in to the field office last night to be placed into the lab as evidence. That seemed to mollify her, she had gone in the bathroom intending to flush each and every one of them down the toilet. Once she got dressed she lumbered into the living room and told Danny that she wanted to talk to Dr. Warren immediately and before he could say anything she picked up her phone and called him. They traveled in a short caravan there. Danny, Jenny and Agent Matthews rode in his car, leading the way. Derek in his jeep following them and a pair of agents brought up the rear while the other two pairs stayed behind at his house. While Jenny went into Dr. Warren's office, the two agents stayed with her while the rest of them drove to Bob's to kill time while she was in there. A caravan of Humvee's and Stryker's rumbled down the road while they were going in. "There's been a lot of that the last couple of days," Derek remarked," Danny gave Agent Matthews an inquisitive look, but the woman's face revealed nothing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Year 1 A.S. Day 192 Evening Brother Paul was starting to panic. He had watched them from across the field, waiting for whoever was in the car to leave so he could go in and try to deal with whatever he found waiting inside when they did. He hadn't been too worried that either Derek or Jenny would stumble onto what he was trying to do. Both of them had a trigger command coiled and waiting inside of them that he could use if he had to. That would give him enough leeway to have them swallow a couple of capsules and put them under and that would be the end of the matter. But the occupants of the unfamiliar car didn't leave. As twilight started to approach he was going to call Brother Judas and have him send a team here to just get all of them at once when two other cars pulled up and parked outside of Derek's house. Four very large men and two women got out of them. They fanned out in teams of two and began sweeping the property with drawn weapons while two of them knocked on the door and started speaking with someone inside the house. Brother Paul watched them take up positions so they could keep the property locked down. At first he thought it was something to worry about, but when one of them opened the trunk and started handing out Kevlar vests with FBI in bright yellow letters on them out to the other agents and then started handing out automatic weapons and shotguns, he knew that it wasn't anything to worry about, it was something to be afraid of. He dialed Brother John and told him what he was seeing and then started the car and headed for the nearest salvation camp in Easton. That was the one he had intended to take them to as soon as he had them in the proper frame of mind. As soon as he arrived he dashed into the main office and sent out a single word signal to all of the Church's sections. The word was Har-Mediggo and it was a warning. He didn't know when he sent it that it was never received. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Year 1 A.S., Day 193 Morning The three of them walked into Bob's Country Kitchen and went into the back to find a booth out of the way. The two agents that had followed them were standing guard in Dr. Warren's office while Jenny was talking to him right now. It would be a while. This was not going to be a short session, nor would it be one that could be overlooked. Danny sat next to Derek with Brandy sitting with her back to the wall watching the entrance from that corner. Clarice came up to them and he took a few minutes with them to get their order down. While he was walking away Derek heard another set of rumbling engines and turned his head toward the windows to see a convoy of empty five ton trucks escorted by Humvees with an assortment of crew served weapons mounted on the roof rolling down the road, the truck's canvas tops thundered from the wind rolling over them as they passed. "I want to thank you Bran," he said. "I don't know how you got involved in this, but I'm glad you're here." "You really don't have to thank me Derek," she said. "I'm not here to protect anyone. I'm here because my Agent in Command decided that someone needed to be here with Danny after he decided not to take them into protective custody. My job is to be an alarm clock. If I saw something I'm supposed to raise holy hell about it so the AIC has a heads up." "I'm gonna thank you anyway," he said. He turned to Danny. "Do you think that Dr. Warren can help her? Do you think she'll be okay?" "Honestly Derek, I don't know," he said. "My Jenny was a strong man before the Shift and that strength almost broke him afterward. It took a lot for her to come as far as she did before that fucker dropped a deuce in her pool. I don't know what it is that she'll have to do to get out of this, but I hope that she can." He took a slow sip of his coffee. "The real question is will she? And that I don't know. I wish I did." "At least now I understand what the hell has been going on for the last few weeks," Derek said miserably. "I thought I was just going crazy. I find what seems like the perfect woman as far as I'm concerned and she just starts slowly turning into everything I didn't care for in every woman I knew when I was a kid. If I wanted a woman like that in my life I'd have stayed with Vicki or gotten involved with someone like her when those church girls were throwing themselves at me." "You know that was probably Brother Paul or Madeline hip deep in that too don't you?" Brandy said. "The fucker did the same thing to me when I walked away. For a year or better I had them calling me and every time I visited my family there was always one of them there like clockwork. That petty fuck hates it for anyone to leave his control. He's worse than a fisherman that can't stop lying about the one that got away." "I know it now," Derek said. "I had an idea, but if I had made the connection earlier Jenny wouldn't be like this right now. I wouldn't have put her in danger." "You didn't do this and you didn't put her in danger," Danny said sharply. "Yes, I did," Derek insisted. "I gave that fucker the chance to turn someone I love into someone I wouldn't be able to stand." Danny looked at him. "I'm going to admit something to you," he said to Derek. "If you had been responsible, if you had done this, then I was all ready to kill you to get her out of here. And Agent Matthew's there might have been able to stop me, but she wouldn't have been able to stop me from trying once we were in your house." "That's how much I love my daughter," he said to him. "I've already lost one daughter to these scum and the man she married. I don't know if they can come back from that and from what they've told me they may not. But I will tell you this." "Derek, I've grown to like you and to respect you for the way you stepped up for her. Hell, the whole family thinks really highly of you for everything you're done for her, even before the two of you became a couple. That's why thinking that you could be involved in this, was so hard for me and Sam to take. That's why I wouldn't have hesitated to do anything I had to, to get her away from you, if that was what needed to be done. I'm glad I didn't have to though," he said. Derek looked at Danny. "I'd have felt the same way if I'd have been in you and Sam's position," He said and then looked down into his own coffee. Danny looked down at his own coffee. "I guess I've become more of a man than I thought I have," he said. "I wouldn't say that," Brandy said quietly. "You just sound like a parent to me." They settled down and waited for Clarice to bring them the rest of their order. There wasn't much to talk about until later when Jenny got out anyway. Another convoy rumbled down the highway in silent purpose. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Danny and Derek had walked with her into the office. They had only spoken with Dr. Warren after Jenny called him and told him that she needed to speak with him today. She gave him no details other than impressing on him that it was vital that they speak with each other as soon as possible today. Once they were in his office and the doors were closed behind them, Agent Matthews gave him a brief overview of what had happened and what they had observed. He had to sit down to try to take in all in. She showed him the pictures that she had taken with her phone of the black capsules and the false prescription label on the bottle. These had already been forwarded to an FBI laboratory to be tested and entered as evidence. While Jenny rested on the couch with one of the agents stationed in the room with her, all of them related their bit of the whole to him in the reception room of his office. Dr. Warren was horrified over what had been done and by what they assumed the goals of these people were. When he heard described what Amy had become when she returned home and what she was like outside of what they had made her into. When he heard how Jenny had been altered to match that to a lesser extent, he told them that it would be best for them to go and not plan on being back for a while. He had no idea how long they would have be together during this session, but he promised them that, when they were ready to leave for the day he would call them. The other two agents remained just outside the door after the rest left. Dr. Warren could see that she was still fuming over what had been done to her. He also listened to what each of them had said about how she had reacted as well. He looked at her on the couch. Until she released that anger and drained some of its venom, they could not go anywhere near what they needed to explore mentally today. Dr. Warren thought carefully about what they should do while he let her rest. This was going to be a delicate and mind wrenching discussion for both of them.

Wish Shift Dreamscapes

Wish shift: Dreamscapes 1 A.S. Day? The first thing I noticed was the reek all of the flowers. The smell of them made the air noxious with their scent. It surrounded me and seemed like it was impregnating even my clothes. It was in my hair and lingered like a thick blanket in my nose and mouth. It was sweet and warm. I could feel soft satin covering me entirely except for my hands. My fingers are bare. I wondered where it came from. I didn't own anything in satin. But it's here now,...

Wish Shift A Woman Named Amy

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Three A Woman Named Amy Year 1 A.S. Day 170 Amy had a busy day. They had left the camp earlier this morning and gotten on the road to go home. The other ladies there had gathered around her before they left, to pray the Lord strengthen her and her husband, as they ventured out into the world of the tribulation. It would not truly be safe for the Lord's people yet, but it had to be done. While she and her sisters in faith prayed, Joshua had gathered with...

Wish Shift To See Beneath The Skin

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty To See Beneath The Skin Year 1 A.S. Day 169 Dr. Nakamura leaned over J.L. helping him slowly move forward a step. "That's it," she said encouraging him. "Just take a slow step, you can do it J.L." Jenny was across from him sitting in a chair on the other side of the exercise room that they had set up to work with their charges. She was making come to me motions with her hands and calling for J.L. to reach her. J.L.'s tongue moved in his mouth and he...

Wish Shift Zai Jian

Wish Shift: Chapter Eleven Zai Jian Year 1 A.S. Day 58 Night Jenny sat in her room. She had taken all of the clothing that she would not be wearing anymore and piled it on the bed. She reached for the first empty box and started to fold pants and t-shirts and carefully put them away. It was quiet now. Mom and grandma had already gone out the pop-up to go to sleep. She was by herself now, there was only the light in the room and the darkness outside her window to keep her...

Wish Shift: Chapter Three Armistice Year 1 A.S. Day 38 Jenny didn't know how long she was leaning against mom crying. Mom just let her lean against him until her tears stopped. "It was your grandmother who pointed it out to me," he said after Jenny's tears ceased and she calmed down again. "She said to me a couple of days ago that you were acting just like a couple friends of hers had after their husbands died. She said that they tried to freeze as much of their life as...

Wish Shift Crossing the Rubicon

Wish Shift: Chapter Nineteen Crossing the Rubicon Year 1 A.S. Day 103 Bob's was a little bit busy this morning for a Thursday. Derek had picked Jenny up at her house at the regular time for her appointment, but they still had more than an hour or so to kill when they walked into the restaurant. Bob waved to Jenny and Derek as they came in the door, but he didn't come over. There were too many people cycling through the place at the moment. Jenny was pretty sure that if he got a...

Jenny quickly dialed Derek and talked to him for a few minutes and then hung up. "Derek can't come," she said obviously disappointed. "He can't get away from the shop today. If you had given us more notice he probably could have," she said turning back to packing her beach bag. Kira glanced at Dianne. She'd noticed the us in that sentence...

Wish Shift Pathways

Wish Shift: Chapter Eight Pathways Year 1 A.S. Day 46 Jenny heard the car pull into her lot in the dim glow of light just before dawn. She had been up until almost midnight the night before and had needed to rush to the toilet sometime in the early morning hours to deal with a bout of morning sickness. Those had been coming less frequently this last week and she was starting to hope that she may be close to parting ways with this particular aspect of being a woman soon. Leaning...

Wish Shift: Adjustments 1 A.S. Day 147 When Derek got out of the shower, he was still half in amazement at Jenny. He toweled himself dry and wrapped the damp towel around himself. He figured he might as well make the bed after he put some clothes on. He really wanted to do something nice for Jenny today, but right now he couldn't think of what it should be. He found himself thinking about what she had told him about Sonya and that brought him back to last night and what she said to...

Wish Shift: Chapter Twelve Revelations Year 1 A.S. Day 65 Sam looked around the outside dining area at Java Jolts. "You know I don't usually go to places like this," she said. Shadows From the PastChapter 24

Melinda raced from her last class of the day and past her locker, not risking a delay which could set off the trigger and compel her to think of what waited at home. She wished Heather had not insisted on taking the school bus; she would have preferred Heather go off with Cassie and the others. It glowed brighter whenever the person was feeling a strong emotion. Matt casually wandered and weaved his way through the people, smiling at some, nodding at others, picking up a salmon topped hors d'oeuvres from a tray offered him by a young girl, probably the daughter of Malcolm, his new boss,  and accepting a glass of red wine from another tray, but inexorably making his way towards the kitchen. It was a fact that all good parties started and ended in the kitchen. At forty-one years old, he had been lucky to get the job as a senior scientific researcher at a...

What Lurks in the Shadows

She pursed her succulent lips rubbing a finger around them slowly as he brown hair was still dripping down her perfect, goosebump prickled skin due to cool air slowly starting to filter into the room as she opened the door. Or if she could taste a salty taste on her lips from her fingers. The shadow...

It was around 3 in the morning when Joshua saw the ad. Working 3rd shift meant lots of long and uneventful nights, and he often passed the time by cruising porn sites or craigslist. If anyone had seen Michael Gillian sitting in his parked car in a shadowy corner of a dark street two blocks from his ex-girlfriend's apartment, they would immediately think that something sinister was about to happen.
