Wish Shift: Chapter Seven Reactions Year 1 A.S. Day 45 Kira saw Jenny's big black truck pull up outside the restaurant. Bob's Country Kitchen was a small local chain that specialized in quick lunches, but served breakfast and dinner as well. The menu was a regular rotation of specials with a standard menu that didn't vary much. Between the prices and the general quality it had been a successful enterprise for the family that owned it. They had decided that they would meet there on a regular basis since it was fairly close to the offices that Jenny would need to be visiting while she was down here. There was also a local coffee shop only a few steps away, if they felt like that instead. Kira had taken longer than she expected this morning and when Jenny and Dianne had left to make her appointments she planned on meeting them in just a little while. But after thinking it over she decided that she would use the time to go to the grocery store and pick up some things so they wouldn't run short. She sent Dianne a text and told her to meet up with her at Bob's. The grocery store that they had settled on also was not that far away. They had kept the places that they needed to go to in a pretty tight circle around the mobile home park that Jenny had settled on. She smirked at the new sign that was prominently displayed at the entrance. The yellow letters against the red background stated. ---You must have a chronological age of at least 18 years to purchase beer, wine or tobacco products. Physical age will not be accepted at the time of purchase. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.--- The rapid drop in the legal drinking age across the country was one good thing that Kira saw as a change for the better. Personally it had always grated on her that there was a three year gap in this one area, while every other measure of adulthood rested on you with a heavy hand. But then, when the Governor had switched with his nineteen year old son and other members of the state legislature were in similar situations, this particular change had been proposed and fast tracked with astonishing speed. Kira pushed through the doors and picked up a basket on her way inside. She had a short list and wasn't planning on getting anything perishable, in case she was needed by Jenny and Dianne suddenly. As she browsed down the aisles plucking what she needed from the shelves she wondered how it was going with Jenny. She heard a scuffle behind her and turned for a moment to see what it was. A fourteen year old boy was trying to scramble into a shopping cart being pushed by a fifteen year old girl. "Kyle! Stop it. I told you, you can't. Now get down." "I wan' na ride An' nie, I wan' ride," the boy insisted. "You can't anymore, Kyle, you're too big of a boy now," The young woman looked like she was holding onto a frayed rope. Kira stepped over to them. "Can I help you miss?" The young woman looked at the tall black woman. "If you can do something, please do it. I'm about out of ideas," she said gratefully. Kira put her basket down and leaned down so that she was almost at eye level with the boy. She didn't have to go down very far, the boy was clearly in the middle of getting his height. "Hello little man, my name's Kira. What's your name?" she cooed in a bright voice. The boy looked at the girl and them back at Kira. "An' nie Heath'r, who th' lady?" he asked quizzically. "Her name is Kira, can you be a good boy and tell her your name?" "Kyle," the boy said drawing out the word in a hesitant, questioning tone. "Well Kyle, you look very strong. Are you very strong?" The boy nodded his head enthusiastically. "Well I'm not very strong, and my basket is sooo heavy. Do you think you can carry my basket while your auntie and I talk?" The boy bounced eagerly looking at the girl. "Can I An' nie?" The girl looked back at him and said in a serious voice. "Yes, but you have to be careful and not break the nice lady's things. Can you do that?" The boy bounced up and down nodding his head. Kira made a mock show of trying to lift the basket and failing to go more than a few inches up. "It's very heavy," she warned. The boy leaned down and picked up the basket easily. His big smile threatened to split his face and he carried the basket in front on the cart with exaggerated solemnity. "Thank you so much for that," the girl said. "I'm Belinda Wilkes. And that..." she tossed her head at the boy marching in front of them "is my three year old son Kyle." "I thought it was something like that. I'm Kira Minton," she said. "You don't know how much I appreciate your help. The last time this happened he got into the cart, squashed everything and almost tipped it over," Belinda said in an exasperated tone. Belinda was originally a twenty-one year old woman. She had been visiting her parents for the week and had switched into her younger sister Heather. Kyle had switched with Heather's boyfriend. Kira offered her sympathies and told her about Jenny. Belinda's eyes got very big and she said that she would have had no idea what to do if that had happened to her. Kira walked with her talking until they both had gotten their lists cleared. When they got up front they exchanged phone numbers and Belinda thanked Kira again. When he saw how easily Kira picked up the plastic bags to go, Kyle asked her how she could do that now. Kira smiled and told him that only the basket was heavy. The boy said "OOOOhhh," and waved goodbye to her. She put the bags in the trunk and checked her phone. Dianne had sent her a message to meet them at Bob's and that they would be leaving as soon as Jenny finished her ultrasound. She pulled the car onto the road and started in the direction of the hospital. She got a booth close to the front windows so that she could watch the parking lot. The waiter, a balding forty-something man with a nametag that said Clarice was very accommodating when Kira told her that she was waiting for her sister to join them from the OB/GYN and told her that it was fine and just order when they got here. She saw the truck door open and Dianne get out. Dianne went around the front of it and opened the door to help Jenny down. The look on Jenny's face made Kira's heart leap into her mouth. She rushed outside and met them coming up the sidewalk. "Something's wrong. What is it?" she demanded anxiously. "There's nothing wrong with any of them," Dianne said back to her. "Let's just get her inside so she can sit down and we'll fill you in," They got her inside and Kira slipped into the bench opposite Jenny, next to Dianne. "You look rough, sis," she said to Jenny still concerned, she really hadn't seen Jenny like this once since she had come back. "I...I'm having twins," Jenny said slowly. "They're both alright. Dr. Waverly said that they were healthy and perfectly normal," Dianne interjected. "That's a relief," Kira said. "When you got out of the truck with that look on your face, I just thought the worst." Kira looked across to her sister's still stunned face. "Hey!" she said. "Jenny, snap out of it. It's gonna be all right. Nothing has really changed in the last hour, except you knowing about it now. You were having twins when you walked into the doctor's office and you're still having twins now. They're fine. You're gonna be fine. Do you want me to call mom, or do you want to do it?" Jenny mumbled that Kira could do it and asked if she could have some tea. Kira waved Clarice over and asked him to bring Jenny some tea. She stepped outside and called mom while Dianne and Jenny waited for their tea. After they got some lunch into Jenny she started to regain her equilibrium. She really needed some more time to come to terms with this new development. Dianne asked her when her next appointment was and Jenny mumbled that it was supposed to be at one o'clock. Kira asked if they knew the sex of the babies and Dianne told her what Dr. Waverly had been able to find out so far. Kira told them that mom and dad were going to come down in the morning. When they finished eating Kira asked Jenny if she would rather ride with her or in the truck. The car seemed the better choice to Jenny so they decided to all go with Jenny to her appointment and then Kira and Dianne would take the truck home and come back for her. Kira swapped keys with Dianne and went up to pay the bill while Dianne took her out to the car. An elderly man in his early sixties took the money Kira gave him for their bill. "Your sister looks real shook up," he said handing back her change. "She just found out she is having twins," Kira said. "So it's safe to say she didn't start out that way then," he said. "No, he switched into his girlfriend and she didn't even know she was pregnant," Kira said. "That's rough," he said sympathetically. "If you think it will help, tell her that we're all pulling for her here." "I'll do that," said Kira. "Thanks." "Y'all come again," he said and turned to the next customer. They pulled into the parking area in front of Dr. Warren's office a couple of minutes late. Dianne went in with Jenny while Kira waited outside for her to come back out. She exited in a couple minutes, much faster that Kira expected her to. When she asked Dianne about it, she gave her a short version of how Jenny had been sent to the front of the line all day. It didn't take that long to get back to Jenny's trailer. Kira parked the truck and slid into the car's passenger seat. "The nurse said we have a little over an hour," Dianne said. "Maybe taking her to this next appointment isn't such a good idea, considering how she took hearing about the twins," Kira said. "Are you kidding?" Dianne said. "Her next appointment was with the psychiatrist. If there was any appointment she needed to keep right now, it'd be that one." Kira looked a little relieved. "I hope it helps," she said. Dianne reached over and squeezed Kira's hand. "Me too baby, me too." Kira had a strong flash of reassurance, Not for Jenny, but for herself. Dianne hadn't done that for her automatically since the Shift and now she realized just how much she had missed it. "I wonder if Sonya is the girl? Kira said. "Maybe they'll both be girls," Dianne said. Either way we'll find out something when they get here." She started up the car and started driving back. Dr. Warren's office looked serene to Jenny. He had gone in for the traditional look and it was all polished dark wood and soft dark leather furniture. There was a couch and a pair of chairs with a heavy desk in one corner flanked with bookcases on each side. The books sat impeccable behind beveled glass doors. There was the sweet scent of flowers from the vases on small tables placed strategically in the room. Dr. Warren himself was a dark haired man with a slight paunch who wore a short, closely cut, salt and pepper beard. Jenny had expected that he would be wearing a three-piece suit, but he didn't go that far. He had been exceedingly warm in his greetings to her. He had a manner of speech that put her in mind of someone from England, but he spoke with the local accent. Despite her mental disorientation from finding out about the twins, she found herself warming to the man. "It's so good to finally meet you Ms. Minton, I can't tell you how eagerly the members of my little corner of the medical profession have been awaiting your arrival." "Thanks, I guess," Jenny said. "I wouldn't have thought I'm anything special." "But you are, Ms. Minton, you are." "There must be a lot of people who are in my situation, I don't see how I'm that different from them," she said. "I'm being rude," Dr. Warren said, "Please forgive me. Here you have already had so much presented to you today and here I am keeping you standing. Please, sit down. Would you like something to drink?" he gestured to the leather furniture. "Take either the couch or one of the chairs if you please. I don't stand that much on tradition, appearances to the contrary." "I think I'd like to lie down if you don't mind and I'd like some water please." His concern for her made Jenny start to unwind just a little. "If that gives you the greatest comfort, then by all means do so," he said. Dr. Warren fetched her a small paper cup of cool water and handed it to her. She stretched out on the dark leather couch, Dr. Warren seated himself nearby. It was comfortable she thought. "Now to answer your question, Ms. Minton. You are special indeed. While it's true there have been a great number of people who have found themselves in similar circumstances as yourself all over the world, you are among the select few who we feel confident can be specifically identified. It's quite clear that from the observation of your former body we can determine that the consciousness animating it is that of what amounts to a newborn. The unique nature of your experience in the Shift and what we have learned about it since it happened is where you come in. It's quite rare to be able to identify those who have transferred so specifically. What sets you apart is the high degree of probability that Ms. Feng is now occupying one of the children developing inside you. As you might imagine, observing your development and hers is a rare opportunity." Jenny started to raise her head to look at him. "I haven't told you about the twins." "Please relax Ms. Minton, Dr. Waverly called me after she finished your examination. All of the physicians that you are seeing are working closely together for you and your children's benefit. The information that we gain from treating and monitoring the development of yourself and your children is of great interest. Not only to members of our own government, but the psychiatric profession and I understand, the Chinese government as well." Jenny lay down again. "It's a little overwhelming," she said. "I'm certain it must be. Now considering the news that you have just received from Dr. Waverly, perhaps you would like to start with that. I'm certain that it must be foremost in your mind at the moment. Or if you like, we can begin somewhere else. I'd like for you to feel that this is a place where you can feel secure in yourself no matter what you encounter outside of these walls, so please feel that you can be as open as you wish to be." "I'm sure though that you have some concerns, even with the, shall we say, murky nature of your emotions at present," he said quietly. "I think I need to do that," she said just as quietly. "I can't seem to get my mind around it. I thought I was coming to terms with being a woman, with being pregnant and just having one baby and now I just don't know how to feel," she admitted. "There is one thing that has been really bothering me," she said. "I heard Dr. Waverly tell me there were twins and the first thought I had was that Sonya might be in both of them." "I can reassure you there. Ms. Minton. Or would you like for me to use the name you chose instead?" he asked. "I think I'd like that," she said. "Please call me Jenny." "Of course Jenny. Now, when Dr. Waverly updated me I asked her some questions on the nature of how twins develop. I feel that I can tell you with certainty that it is not the case that Ms. Feng's consciousness has been replicated in both of your children. Dr. Waverly explained that the development of twins occurs quite early in pregnancy, usually within the first nine days. It is more likely that one of the twins moved into the other when Ms. Feng's consciousness was displaced." Jenny felt some degree of relief. She hadn't known it was that early and the idea that Sonya could be split in such a way had been as much a cause of distress to her as the prospect of having the twins by itself. "You don't know how much you saying that means to me," she said some of the relief showing in her voice. "Now, as for your concerns about facing the prospect of two children rather than a single child. I think in time you may find that it is not the dire circumstance that it feels like to you right now. You may even look forward to it once you have gotten over your initial feelings. Jenny thought about what he was saying and realized that a lot of what he was saying to her made sense and really was not that different from what Kira had said to her in the restaurant. Maybe it was his manner, but for the first time since Dr. Waverly had told her about the twins, the idea of it didn't weigh so much. They talked some more about her feelings about the twins for a while longer. Jenny didn't think it was possible, she had never had therapy before, but after unburdening herself some more she did begin to feel a little better. Dr. Warren asked her about how she was feeling making her adjustment from male to female. He asked her about how she had come to make the decision to dress in such a feminine manner and if she had done so before the Shift or had desired to do so. Jenny told him that she hadn't done that and then found herself detailing much of the conversation that mom had with her just before leaving to come here. Dr. Warren listened intently as she related what had happened and what she had done afterward. Dr. Warren was a good listener. He only interrupted her to ask specific questions and tried to help her keep the flow of her thoughts intact as much as could be done. "Your family is quite correct," he said when she finished. "From what you've told me today your reaction is in many ways that of grieving for a lost loved one and trying to come to grips with that loss." "I must say," he said. "Your mother sounds like an extremely perceptive woman." "Man now, she switched with my father," Jenny said. "Still extremely perceptive. Does he by chance work in the medical field?" "He is a nurse. He started at the VA where my grandmother works, but he later started working as a nurse with the school system," Jenny told him. "I'm certain his insights will be of great value and comfort to you in the days to come. You are a lucky woman in that regard. But that's just my personal opinion as it were." "Now back to what your mother told you. How did you feel when he was speaking to you about shaping yourself and being shaped by others into a woman." "I'm terrified. Every day I lose a little more of myself. It's not the things I choose to do. What scares me the most is how much of it is just happening and I don't realize it until I look around and it's already been done." She looked over at Dr. Warren. "I guess I just don't want to become someone else, but every time I turn around its happening if that makes any sense." Dr. Warren leaned over to her in his chair. "Jenny, I'd like you to think openly with what I'm about to say," he said slowly in a calm measured voice meant to be reassuring. "You will become someone else, it is inevitable. It was happening to you even before the Shift. You are not the same person you were when you were a child, nor a young man or even the man you were the day of the Shift. If it had not happened you would still be in the process of becoming someone else." Jenny blinked and just listened. "The constant thing in all of these changes is that we carry the core of who we are forward with us. Now you have become a woman, but the person you are is still the same. Did you become something you are not when you became a woman?" "I became very submissive I thought, when I was having sex the first time afterward," she said quietly. "And yet, you behaved quite aggressively during this moment." "I had to, he was just laying there and I had to do anything to switch us back. I felt that it was my fault. But that wasn't how I felt inside. I've never had that kind of feeling inside me when having sex and I'm not talking about it physically. My whole way of thinking just changed." Dr. Warren sat back in his chair. "Jenny," he said, "do you think that you might be confusing your mental reaction to radically different sensations experienced in the heat of the moment with actual mental change? Have you found yourself behaving submissively now in your day to day activities?" "No, not really, but as I said things are changing and I don't see them until they are different," she pointed out. "And is this somehow different in the way things changed before?" he asked her. "I guess not. But it doesn't feel that way," she said. "I would venture to say that you are actually much more sensitive to change at this point than you were before. It's not that the level of change has increased, but your awareness of it has. Even before the Shift, you had periods in your experience when you were more aware of the changes around you. And right now your sense of self is in flux. You are crafting a whole new version of yourself so to speak. So you are much more aware of it happening. You may find that, as you become more comfortable with who you are becoming, your level of awareness to these changes lessens, until something occurs to raise that level again." "I'd like you to begin a journal if you haven't already done so. I think that it will help you process what is happening to you if you have some level of context in which to place it." They continued speaking for another half-hour. Jenny found herself becoming quite comfortable speaking with him. He radiated a sensation of calmness that she found soothing and even though she didn't feel that anything large had been resolved, she didn't feel as anxious about the things that had been plaguing her when she was by herself. Dr. Warren walked her to the reception room. She asked him if he had been switched. He replied that he was one of the seven percent that had remained the same. He also said that even though there had been some discussion about him not being able to possibly establish a rapport with her because of this, it had been eventually agreed that he was the best choice because he would not be distracted by his own changes. She thanked him and told him she would think about what he had to say until their next session. Kira and Dianne were waiting for her in the reception room. They told her that she looked a little better and asked how she felt. She assured them that she was feeling much better now. Dianne gave a sideways look at Kira, but they didn't explain and just kept walking. She got into the car and watched the scenery outside the window as they drove her home. -------------------------------------------------------- Year 1 A.S. Day 45 He saw the pretty Chinese woman again. She had been around all day going to one place or another. Most of the time she had been with another woman and the last time with her and a tall black woman. He decided that he wanted to keep an eye out for her if she came back again. She probably would since the last doctor she visited was a shrink. It could be an opportunity he thought to himself. If he saw her again he'd see what he could do with that opportunity. But he might need some help to do what he was thinking of. There was a guy he knew. He'd talk with him later and in the meantime he'd keep watching out for her.

Wish Shift Dreamscapes

Wish shift: Dreamscapes 1 A.S. Day? The first thing I noticed was the reek all of the flowers. The smell of them made the air noxious with their scent. It surrounded me and seemed like it was impregnating even my clothes. It was in my hair and lingered like a thick blanket in my nose and mouth. It was sweet and warm. I could feel soft satin covering me entirely except for my hands. My fingers are bare. I wondered where it came from. I didn't own anything in satin. But it's here now,...

Wish shift: Chapter Six Template Year 1 A.S. Day 45 Danny had just finished sliding the last of the cubed potatoes off of the cutting board into the pot of boiling water. She glanced across the kitchen at Sam. She was slicing tomatoes and laying them out on the split loaf of Italian bread over the lettuce. Danny reached for an onion and started dicing it. Danny was more than a little proud of Sam the last couple of weeks. Jenny coming home had been a good influence on her in some...

Wish Shift Revelations

Wish Shift: Chapter Twelve Revelations Year 1 A.S. Day 65 Sam looked around the outside dining area at Java Jolts. "You know I don't usually go to places like this," she said. The outside area was pretty simple, just some small white painted metal tables with some white wicker chairs around them. The tables were pulled up close to the plate glass of the front window and on the edge of the sidewalk there were some planters with greenery spilling over the concrete sides. "I know,"...

Wish Shift Two By Moonlight

Wish Shift: Chapter Eighteen Two By Moonlight Year 1 A.S. Day 92 Jenny slowed the truck down and stopped. The little ticket booth at the gate had peeling white paint on its wooden walls and there were a few scattered weeds growing at the base of the small building. Jenny leaned out of the window slightly and handed over the twenty-five dollar admission to the sixty year old man who was bouncing up and down to whatever was on his I phone between cars. He took her money and she...

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Six You Can't Outrun A Shadow Year 1 A.S. Day 187 Day 232 of Jenny's Pregnancy Brother Paul disconnected the phone and turned his efforts back towards getting ready to depart. He was greatly satisfied with the work he had done already. The little mud woman had finally reached a stage that he could start encouraging her growing love of the Lord's righteousness and Derek would be coming back to them today, albeit only for services. With her now properly...

Wish Shift The Fire That Burns You

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Nine The Fire That Burns You Year 1 A.S. Day 209 Day 254 of Jenny's pregnancy Sleep was constantly avoiding coming to her. Between her now frequent trips to the bathroom, the movement of the twins and the pain from the various parts of her body, it was a wonder that she got any sleep at all. And that was before she even factored in the emotional toll of the last few days. The rage that had been released when the full scope of what had been done to...

Wish Shift Reunion

Part One The Winter of her Heart Wish Shift: Chapter One Reunions 1 A.S. Day 32 She was still trying to sleep. It wasn't her first international trip. The problem was, even with all of the shades down on the windows, you could still see the outline of daylight around them. This made it difficult for her to get relaxed even in ordinary circumstances. Her only consolation this trip was that, for once, the seat was roomy enough. But considering what made that extra room...

Wish Shift Examinations

Wish Shift: Chapter Five Examinations Year 1 A.S. Day 43 Dianne didn't arrive the next day, but she did show up the day after that. Sometime after four p.m., when Kira and Jenny were lighting the charcoal in the small portable grill, Kira's phone started ringing. While Jenny busied herself with using the hand cranked fan to get the coal bed well fired, Kira answered it and started laying out the directions to where they were. After they finished talking Kira told Jenny that...

Wish Shift Intake

Wish Shift: Chapter Fifteen Intake Year 1 A.S. Day 86 Brother Paul sat in the comfortable leather chair in his office. He had striven for the impression of a manager's office rather than something more exalted like the head of a corporation. He told the others that it was right and proper that, as leader's in the Lord's organization that they be reminded that they too were workers in the vineyard of the Lord and not masters of it. He did have some sparse decoration, but...

Wish Shift Spreading Her Broken Wings

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-One Spreading Her Broken Wings Year 1 A.S. Day 173 The sound of the washing machine rumbled through the kitchen. Jenny had just turned it on after loading it and walked into the dining room. She needed to sit down. The effort of loading the bedding had made her a little dizzy. She saw Derek at the table. He had his laptop open and was writing down some notes occasionally on a scrap piece of paper. He flipped between the open tabs and frowned before writing...

Wish Shift: Chapter Seventeen Seed Year 1 A.S. Day 91 Grandma sauntered out of the trailer wearing a red and white bikini. She had her auburn hair pulled back and she was wearing a pair of oversize sunglasses. She lay down on the folding lawn chair and started rubbing tanning lotion into her skin. Jenny giggled to herself and tried to imagine her as she was before wearing that bikini and just couldn't picture it. She turned back to cranking the blower on the coals to get them...

Wish Shift: Chapter Thirty-Eight The Ashes of Empire Year 1 A.S. Day 193 0920 Hours Amy opened the door. There were two men standing there, both of them were dressed in dark suits. She thought for a moment that they might have been someone sent from the church and asked the two men what they wanted. The shorter one, a stocky black man told her that they needed to speak with her and her husband immediately. When she nodded agreeably and opened the door for them the taller of the...

Wish Shift: Chapter Twenty Seven The Things That Bind You Year 1 A.S. Day 157 Jenny looked up when Derek opened the front door. She was in the kitchen going over some of what she wanted to do with him during the next week. That was about how much her ruck had weighed after she had crammed gear, twenty-four MRE's, an anti-tank mine, a thousand rounds for her SAW and an M-72 anti-tank rocket into it when she climbed onto a UH-60 Blackhawk and they sent her against the Iraqi army. One hundred and fifty pounds was what she had used as her average set when...

Wish Shift Deflection

Wish Shift: Chapter Two Deflection Year 1 A.S. Day 32 No one laughed when Kira said that to her. Not that it wasn't just like something she would say and that it wasn't amusing in its own way. Jenny was mostly sure it was because none of them really knew what to say. Like her mom had said to her in the restroom, it was just something that he never expected to hear from her son, even if her son was now her daughter. She supposed that it also brought home to her sister Kira and...

Wish Shift: And The Fruit It Bears 1 A.S. Day 146 Jenny looked at her face in the small mirror on the counter. She ran a quick check on what she saw reflected there. The lessons she had been getting from mom when he came down to visit and all the practice she had recently was starting to really pay off. The Great Shift Healing Hands

The Great Shift: Healing Hands By Johnny Girl ([email protected]) I stared down at my hands. My hands. I still had trouble believing they were really mine. They were long and slender and delicate and feminine, wearing rings and bracelets, the fingers tipped with sparkly purple fingernail polish. These weren't the hands I was familiar with. They weren't the rough and strong and calloused hands I'd been so dependent on; they were weak and soft and smooth and small and useless...

The Great Shift Summers End

The Great Shift - Summer's End By Limbo's Mistress "Dad, I'm home," a voice from the front of the house called right before I heard the slam of the front door. I looked up from the papers spread out on the kitchen counter to see my daughter, Carrie, walk into the room. She stopped at the table and slipped the backpack off her shoulders, hanging it on the back of one of the chairs. Then she walked over to the opposite side of the counter and leaned against it, grabbing an apple from...

Great Shift The Origin

* Warning, this story uses the events that happened on Sept. 11, 2001 as a loose model in trying to give a feel of the carnage that'd happens during a massive calamity. If you feel this depiction is too traumatizing in bringing up memories, or if you have PTSD issues, you may not want to read ths story.* The Great Shift (Origins) I like many have enjoyed many a story of the fun and mayhem of that fateful day that the world was turned on it's ear, and many a men had to learn...

The Great Shift The Empty Place Inside Part 1 of 2 revised

The Great Shift: The Empty Place Inside by BlueshifTG Part 1 The straps were loosened on the black 1" heel shoes tumbled under the desk. One stockinged foot was on the floor, the other unsteadily balanced on the plastic trash can; the position pulled the leather skirt tight above the green-nailed fingers that absent-mindedly rubbed a spot on the outside of the right knee. The woman was leaning back in her chair, head...

The Wish Shift Part One The Winter of Her Heart

The Wish Shift Prologue Year 1 A.S. Day 16 The office had very little decoration. A couple of framed prints on the walls of mountains that could be from anywhere in the western U.S. but existed only in the printmaker's imagination. There were no family pictures on the desk's surface so the young Chinese woman who was presently sitting in one of the two chairs facing the desk knew that this was no one's actual office. It was just an interrogation room. Small, windowless and...

The Great Shift Summers End Part 2

Once upon a time, I used to be the type of guy who firmly believed women could never get ready on time because they could never decide what to wear. I mean, what guy hasn't watched any number of sitcoms or romcoms where the husband/boyfriend continually looks at his watch, becoming more and more exasperated and impatient, while his darling dear tries on an entire wardrobe's worth of clothing? No matter how relaxed the dress code of the event they are attending, the woman has to make...

The Great Shift - Summer's End (Part 4) by Limbo's Mistress Tyrone began to stir about three minutes before the police arrived. I noticed it first, the twitch of the fingers of his left hand. Instantly, the memory of that massive hand being slammed against my face, and the harsh way they had groped and fondled me, rushed forward, drowning out everything else. As if I were reliving it all over again. Huddled beneath the blanket, I curled tighter in on myself, and a...

The Great Shift The Empty Place Inside part 2 of 2

The Great Shift: The Empty Place Inside by BlueshifTG Part 2 The young woman opened her eyes. What she saw was all white, slowly resolving into different shades of white, and two corners. That was the extent of it: three walls. Part of it was different, yellow, that's it, with some sort of pattern--a curtain. On the other side, a door. In the corner, high, a box. A mouth, a speaker, no, a camera; a...

Great Shift The Best Day

Great Shift: The Best Day By Morpheus It was the best day of my life and I was almost ready to burst from pure happiness. Never before had I even imagined that I could be so happy, that anything could be so perfect. Or that I would have the perfect someone to spend the rest of my life with. Just a short while earlier, I had married my beloved Keith, in the most beautiful ceremony that I could have imagined. It was fairly small as neither of us had any family, though there...
